If you’re an Overwatch fan, then you surely heard about Blizzard’s upcoming D.Va statue. Priced at a heartbreaking $450, we knew that it had to impress to justify the price tag. After seeing it unveiled in person however, and it’s hard to argue otherwise with all of the detail put into it.

When explaining the process of bringing Overwatch‘s gaming goddess to life, the design team knew that she couldn’t be in her Mecha from the start of the design phases. D.Va is unique in the sense that she’s actually two characters, so the team wanted that to be well represented when it came to her statue. With as many minute details that the Mecha has, it was the most challenging statue for them to design so far. Determined to stay one-to-one with the game assets, the legs in particular were a unique challenge to represent, with so many small sections in the joints needing to look like they would properly function while looking like it does in the game. The entire process was completed using both hand and digital work, taking about 8-12 weeks to fully sculpt. To put the finishing touches on the statue, the team used dental tools to create scratches, making both Hana and her Mecha look battle hardened.

With so many intricacies going into the design, it’s not hard to see why it’s so expensive. But then again, owning a piece one of last year’s waifu of the year winners is priceless. During Nintendo’s Switch conference, the company announced that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is heading to the console.

As one of the most surprising reveals during the show, first impressions make it seem as if, the latest from Monolith Soft will be a direct sequel to the Wii and 3DS classic, Xenoblade Chronicles, rather than a follow up of their latest on the Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles X. Rumors were flooding the Internet as the show approached that a port of the Wii U’s XCX was going to be Monolith’s big contribution, so we were more than okay with a continuation of what I feel is one of the greatest RPG’s of all time.

Based on the little bit of footage we got from the game’s reveal trailer, it’s clear that the game will be just as large, (and just as beautiful), as previous games. This is all while taking advantage of the Switch’s increased power, which is apparent based on the trailer’s smooth frame rate and non-grainy character models. Speaking of characters, their designs seem to have received the biggest change, taking a more anime inspired look compared to the original. But with the teases towards the end, we’re left with plenty of questions. Namely, how has the world changed since Shulk’s adventure, will the old crew return in any capacity, and is that red sword in the end related to the fabled Monado?

But the biggest surprise is this game is scheduled to come out this year! So it won’t be long until we have those answers barring any delays. Check out the trailer and try to pick out some more details, then share them in the comments below!

I’m guessing the partnership between Koei Tecmo and Nintendo was pretty successful the first time around!

Picking up where Hyrule Warriors left off, Fire Emblem Warriors is the next Musou title where the team behind the Dynasty Warriors franchise adapts a popular Nintendo franchise in the style of their 100 vs 1 hack and slash games. While not much was shown outside of the Fire Emblem itself and a tease of Fire Emblem Awakening‘s Chrom, (who was notoriously excluded from Super Smash Bros.), there was zero footage of what the game we’ll look like. But after seventeen years of Warriors games to look back on, we have a pretty good idea.

I’m beyond excited for this surprise announcement! I thoroughly enjoyed Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U, and while the 3DS re-release last year had its share of problems, it was plenty enjoyable with the right hardware. With Fire Emblem’s adaptation coming to a stronger console, I can’t wait to see its best characters in action. Robin’s spells, Ike’s power, Marth’s swordplay and Corrin’s dragon transformations are going to be a blast to see outside of a fighting game or turn based setting. After how great of a year the series had last year with Fire Emblem Fates and Tokyo Mirage Sessions: #FE, 2017 looks like it’s going to keep the former fringe property in the spotlight. Speaking of TMS, can we get one of the idols in this game please!? I’d die for Tsubasa.

After months of poking, prodding and teasing through social media, Sombra has finally been officially revealed during the BlizzCon 2016 opening ceremony! Giving us a look at what to expect thanks to a surprise animated short featuring her, Widowmaker and Reaper, the plot surrounding the countless King of the Hill matches is starting to really heat up. But is she friend, foe, or only in it for herself?

As the latest offensive hero to be revealed for the team based shooter, she looks to bring a completely different type of skill set to the game. If you’ve been following the leaks, it seems like they were spot on, but for those who managed to stay in the dark, you’re in for a surprise. Courtesy of the Overwatch website, here’s what we can expect when Sombra arrives in our games.

Stealth and debilitating attacks make Sombra a powerful infiltrator. Her hacking can disrupt her enemies, ensuring they’re easier to take out, while her EMP provides the upper hand against multiple foes at once. Sombra’s ability to Translocate and camouflage herself makes her a hard target to pin down.

ABILITIES

MACHINE PISTOL

Sombra’s fully-automatic machine pistol fires in a short-range spread.

HACK

Sombra hacks enemies to temporarily stop them from using their abilities, or hacks first aid kits to make them useless to her opponents.

THERMOPTIC CAMO

Sombra becomes invisible for a short period of time, during which her speed is boosted considerably. Attacking, using offensive abilities, or taking damage disables her camouflage.

TRANSLOCATOR

Sombra tosses out a translocator beacon. She can instantly return to the beacon’s location while it is active (including when it’s in mid-flight).

EMP

Sombra discharges electromagnetic energy in a wide radius, destroying enemy barriers and shields and hacking all opponents caught in the blast.

 

On paper, Sombra sounds like a game changer. Being able to teleport at a much faster speed than Reaper helps her mobility, while her stealth makes it easy for her to flank opposing teams. If that wasn’t enough, her Hack ability completely disables opponents and their ability to heal through packs, and that EMP ultimate can set up major comebacks when defensive teams are completely walling you off. Then again, reading about it and its actual application in game are two different things, so we’ll be keeping our eyes on the floor impressions, since she’s available to try at the convention.

Aside from the new character, Blizzard promised new modes and maps, including what they called The Arcade. Revealing Eco Point Antarctica, Mei’s home stage where she was frozen for years, this map was the first one mentioned for The Arcade, which will offer 1 vs 1 and 3 vs 3 matches. The Oasis will be the next standard map, a type of high tech utopia built in the Arabian desert. The new content was said to arrive on the PTR in December, so it’ll be a little longer before we’ll be able to check it out for ourselves.

What was originally referred to as Nintendo NX has now evolved into something else. This is the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s next home console that is a hybrid between a console and a handheld. Using the new Switch controller, you can initially play all of your games on a gamepad looking device, but if you choose to, you can easily plug the screen and unhook the side controllers to attach it to a docking station for use on your TV. That’s not where it ends though. The controller screen can als be used as a mini TV while you play the game using only the 2 detachable Joycon analog sticks, just a single Joycon analog , or just get rid of the screen and turn it into a psuedo pro controller for your TV.nintendoswitch_hardware-0-0

Don’t fret though! You can still find a regular controller with the Switch Pro controller which is even more reminiscent of the Wii U pro controller. Afraid about 3rd party support not being there? Not a problem! The Nintendo Switch will have the following Developers on board. Take Two, Capcom, Ubisoft, Bethesda, From Software, Activision, an much much more. And what would a Nintendo console be without first party support. During the video, Nintendo teased fans with quick glimpses of a new Mario Kart, Splatoon, and even a 3D Mario. Oh yeah, you read that right.

No more fooling around. Nintendo has officially announced that they are revealing the highly anticipated NX console tomorrow, October 20th at 7am PST/10am EST. Is it a console? A handheld maybe? A secret alien robot weapon developed by skynet to overthrow our human existence? All this and more will be revealed tomorrow, but until then, all we can do is continue to wait.

Since the original Nintendo DS launched over 10 years ago, Pikmin always seemed like it would be a natural fit for the touch screen, (which was proven on the Wii U with Pikmin 3.) It may have taken a decade to land on handheld platforms, but Olimar and his army of adorable carrots are finally coming to the 3DS. Except… It’s nothing like what any of us would expect.

Trading in its real time strategy game play for what can only be described as an action focused 2D platformer, Pikmin for the Nintendo 3DS looks to turn what we know about the series on its head. Alternating between the fire resistant red Pikman, the high flying yellow Pikmin that laugh off the dangers of electricity, or the blue Pikmin, which are the only type that can survive in water, Olimar will use them to attack, solve puzzles, and fight bosses as he works his way towards the end of each stage.

Not much is known about the game outside of its reveal trailer, such as whether or not the other Pikmin variants like the white, purple, pink or rock Pikmin will make an appearance, but I’m approaching this one cautiously at the moment. What we’ve seen looks good so far, but we only have to look to last year’s Chibi Robo: Zip Lash to find a sequel where an established game was converted to a 2D platformer for the sake of wider appeal, only for it to lose much of what made it special in the process. Let’s hope Olimar and his crew avoid this pitfall.

It’s been too long since we’ve had a chance to play a new Rhythm Heaven game. Feeling the need to rectify this, Nintendo announced the next game in the addicting minigame series, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, during their Nintendo Treehouse presentation. Oh, and it’s out now!

From the minds behind the WarioWare franchise, Rhythm Heaven consists of dozens of music based mini games that range from conducting interviews, to singing with a choir and playing Ping Pong. It sounds mundane on paper, but with the crazy characters, charming music and adorable animations that give the game so much personality, Megamix is promising to be even bigger and much better. Featuring new games alongside popular picks from the Game Boy Advance, DS and Wii versions, experiencing the insanity of the game with friends will be even easier thanks to up to four players being able to join in with one copy of the game. StreetPass battles and bonus games that you can unlock with strong performances look to round out what looks like an already packed game, and it doesn’t hurt at all that the wait for the game is non-existent.

If you haven’t played one of these games before, this is looking like the perfect entry point. At $29.99 on the Nintendo eShop, the online store just got a lot more interesting. Are you planning on jumping back into the rhythm, and what minigames are you hoping return?

Just when you thought that Spider-Man has ran out of ways to surprise us in a video game adaptation, here comes Insomniac Games to prove us wrong. Announced during Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, Spider-Man PS4,  (a working title if you couldn’t tell,) will bring the wall crawler to Sony’s console exclusively in a way that’s never been seen before.

As breathtaking as it was to swing through New York in past games, the mechanic has become somewhat passe, especially when it hasn’t been improved on much since Spider-Man 2 released over a decade ago. With that in mind, color me surprised when the teaser for the new game showed Spidey truly making the city his own. Whether bounding off of tables and crashing through a window from the inside of a cafe while in pursuit of a bad guy, seeing the city break apart while he finds himself locked in battle with an enemy, or his slick webbing animations that help him tie up crooks in style, the minute of footage already gives us hope that this could be the best Spider-Man game yet. The improvements to movement, combat and environment interaction are already apparent, so with a developer with the reputation that Insomniac has earned at the helm, we’re guessing this is going to be great.

This has been a big year for Spider-Man, and 2017 can only get better once this game finds its way into our hands if the placeholder date is anything to go by. Are you ready to throw on the underoos one more time?

When Capcom promised that it would bring the Resident Evil franchise back to its horror roots after Resident Evil suffered both critically and financially due in part to its action heavy direction, we never would have expected the series to get the full PT treatment. Yet, after Resident Evil 7 debuted at Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, we’re left with something that is undeniably creepy, but looks a lot more like something we’d expect from Silent Hill.

Based on the trailer below, we don’t have a whole lot to go on. Taking place in America in the aftermath of the events in Resident Evil 6, the first person horror game takes players through a decrepit house, full of all of the grotesque imagery that we would be more likely to see in a certain playable teaser. Using a variety of jump scares, the dark atmosphere, and visual tricks to keep the player feeling tense, that sense of horror that the series has been lacking definitely feels like it’s back in play. Considering that the entire game can be played using PlayStation VR only makes the idea that much more terrifying.

This trailer is such a departure from past Resident Evil games that I can’t help but have a mountain of questions after watching it over. Where are all the monsters? Why do ghosts seem to be such a major part of the scare factor? Will there be any zombies or tie ins to the Umbrella Corporation? And how will the Wesker family tie in to the whole thing after the conclusion of Revelations 2?  We’re definitely intrigued with this new direction, and I’m glad to see that someone is picking up the PT mantle after so many indie games have ultimately failed. Still, I can’t help but laugh at the irony that after years of being accused of ignoring their fans, Capcom finally listens… To Konami’s!

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is scheduled to release on

It’s been years since Prey 2 was announced, with an endless cycle of delays making it seem like we might never see the follow up to 2006’s cult classic shooter. During Bethesda’s E3 2016 press conference, they revealed that the game has been retooled, seemingly sharing little with its Xbox 360 and PC predecessor.

Now simply titled Prey, the new trailer follows Morgan Yu, a test subject who has been ran through countless experiments for the betterment of the human race. After waking up aboard a space station in the year 2032, Yu finds himself stranded on a ship overrun by hostile aliens. Using his unique abilities alongside any weapons he can find, Morgan will uncover the secrets surrounding the station and the experiments he was subjected to, all while fighting to survive his terrifying ordeal.

Developed by Arkane Studios, the team behind Dishonored, it’s safe to say that this new Prey game is a sequel in name only. With a new development team and a completely different premise, I’m really disappointed to see the portals and gravity physics disappear. Often seen as Portal years before Portal would be released, I can’t help but feel that Prey is losing some of its identity in the transition. With that said, Arkane is a very talented studio, and I have faith that they will be able to deliver a product worth playing when the game launches in 2017. Either way, it will be hard to wonder what could have been.

During EA’s E3 2016 press conference, the company went over their new EA Originals publishing branch. Inspired by the release of last year’s Unravel, the program is promising to seek out passionate small development teams with a knack for innovation, and providing them with the security that the backing of a huge publisher like EA can bring to the table to help see these ideas come to fruition.

The first game that will be launching under this program is Fe, a 3D platformer developed by Zoink, the small development team out of Gothenburg, Sweden that was behind Stick it to the Man back in 2013. Using a shadowy purple aesthetic that gives it a vibe between Limbo and Ori and the Blind ForestFe looks like a gorgeous game so far. Thinking about how much farther the game could go beyond the brief minute and a half that we saw it in action, we’re definitely interested in how the game will progress.

By committing to selecting a few projects each year to develop under this banner, EA Originals will provide a steady flow of new experiences that aim to bring small teams into the spotlight. A move like this goes a long way to help the company shed its negative image when it comes to stifling creativity in previous years, and can only be good for the industry as the small guys and girls get such a big chance to succeed.

As we get closer to E3, rumors have been swirling about a a potential Injustice 2 reveal. Well, NetherRealm Studios and WB Games have put the speculation to rest, because Injustice 2 is real, and it looks like it could be even more brutal than the first.

Featuring a solemn narration from an off screen voice, (who does mention being reborn after emerging from “the pit.” Could it be Ra’s al Ghul?), the reveal trailer shows mainstays like Superman, Batman, The Flash and Aquaman smashing each other through walls with enhanced strength thanks to what seems to be a new transforming armor mechanic. If you were hoping for some new character reveals to keep the hype going, the closing moments of the trailer show Supergirl protecting Batman from her uncharacteristically murderous cousin, and a younger man suiting up in a red and black Batman suit. Could it be Red Hood? Or even better… Batman Beyond?

From the little we’re shown, so many questions can be pulled from it. How will the transforming suits work in the game? Is Superman still an evil, power hungry dictator? Who is the voice in the trailer? Will we FINALLY get Black Canary and Huntress? We’ll find out more as we get closer to its 2017 release date.

Volition, the development team best known for their work on the Red Faction and Saints Row series of games, has revealed their next project in the form of Agents of Mayhem, courtesy of its IGN exclusive reveal trailer. But in between all of the shooting, robot summoning and witty comments, could it be that this game has a deeper connection to the developer’s previous open world gang series as we might have expected?

From the trailer, it’s clear that our elite team of three soldiers will be fighting off an evil force that’s after some Earth shattering technology. What’s even more interesting than the unique abilities and personalities of Fortune, Hardtack and Hollywood, (especially that stunt double that got killed standing in for our superstar douche bag,) is the organization backing them. As the Ultor company chastises their leader for the collateral damage they left behind, a clear logo resembling the 3rd Street Saints’ iconic symbol closes out the final moments of the footage. Could this group be picking up the pieces of Earth after the planet got destroyed in the fourth Saints Row game? Or did the Saints pick up and rebuild on another planet? Or maybe a new organization discovered their legacy and decided to co-opt it?

What might be even more of a clue however, is Ultor itself. Serving as one of the main antagonists throughout the Saints Row series,  they were the same organization that the citizens of Mars went to war against in Red Faction. While Volition has said that it was just meant to be an easter egg and that the two series weren’t connected, the company’s eventual prominence in both series’ and the Saints finding themselves in space throughout the fourth game definitely leads to a possibility where humans eventually colonize Mars. Could Agents of Mayhem serve as a bridge connecting the two?

After months of rumors combined with a shred of foresight considering how remaster happy this console generation has been, Square Enix has finally made our return to Ivalice official with the announcement of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.

Releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 4, The Zodiac Age serves as a re-release of the 2006 PS2 hit. Serving as a huge overhaul for how Final Fantasy handles its combat, level up mechanics and storytelling, the polarizing twelfth entry will receive a series of improvements on top of the expected graphics upgrade. Presumably bringing over the Zodiac Job System that the Japanese exclusive Final Fantasy XII International used to improve its often confusing and convoluted growth system that kept some from enjoying the game, (myself included,) The Zodiac Age is already on track to be worth a second look.

In addition to the job system, the real time combat is also set to be revitalized with a reconstructed design. This on top of a re-recorded soundtrack, shorter load times, an auto save feature, the Trial Mode from International, and trophy support show that there’s plenty to enjoy for new and old players alike.

Ora ora ora! For those who felt like there wasn’t enough karate guy, (and girl,) representation in The King of Fighters XIV, Team Art of Fighting returns to fill that void. Much like Team Fatal Fury, the Art of Fighting cast has become more synonymous with the King of Fighters franchise over the years, so it’s no surprise to see the three main characters from the early 90’s coin op fighter return to the KOF stage.

Consisting of Ryo Sakazaki, an orange clad fighter who’s similar moveset and appearance to a certain other karate fighter has led to a parody of the alleged knockoff from said competitor, Robert Garcia, Ryo’s best friend and rival who happens to be rich and totally not Ken, and Yuri Sakazaki, Ryo’s little sister who will eternally be in training, the three often serve as a hard hitting, no nonsense group.

But as with previous reveal trailers, the fun comes from how the new mechanics work with these old move sets. In this case, Team Art of Fighting looks absolutely brutal. Canceling super moves into other super moves creates huge combos for each of the three members, with some interesting new takes on old moves for Yuri in particular. Will the damage be scaled so high that we’ll be able to almost finish an opponent with one sequence in the final version? I hope not, but we’ll be sure to see what balance changes take effect before the game’s August release date.

Staying on schedule with their promised character per month DLC model, Guile has been confirmed as the next fighter to join the Street Fighter V roster.

Arriving as the only true “charge” character so far, (with Vega and Chun-Li having their moves either partially or completely changed to quarter circle motions,) the all-American family man returns with some interesting tricks up his rolled up sleeves. Most surprisingly, he will be the only character with a walking crouch. Called the “Faultless Move”, Guile can hold his down charge for his trademark Flash Kick while moving forward, finally giving us the chance to emulate the cheating CPU from Street Fighter II.

In addition, Guile’s V Skill and V Trigger enhance his Sonic Boom projectiles in ways that will let him control the field like never before. His skill is Sonic Blade, allowing him to launch a stationary version of his trademark fireball to either set a trap or keep downed opponents on the offensive. His trigger, called Solid Puncher, gives him the ability to throw out continuous Sonic Booms at varying speeds depending on the button pressed. While limited like all the other V Triggers in the game, this brief period will give Guile a huge space advantage, allowing him to control the field or extend combos at his will, on top of powering up his Critical Art.

Speaking of his Critical Art, the Sonic Hurricane from Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 returns as Guile’s go-to ultimate attack. Launching a large, stationary Sonic Boom directly in front of him, what better way to apply the pressure even further than with a large projectile to bring the opponent closer to you for big damage? Flash Kick fans might be a little disappointed that these new moves are all Sonic Boom heavy, but hey! You get a walking crouch, which sounds amazing!

In addition to Guile, the April update will come with some long awaited enhanced rage quitting penalties that lock frequent abusers out of the game for a set amount of time, and the Air Force Base Stage. At the asking price of 70,000 Fight Money, this throwback stage has all the same soldiers cheering you on, all of which have aged surprisingly well from their SFII appearance 25 years ago, but with a new coat of paint. Season Pass holders will get the stage for free as a thank you from Capcom!

Guile himself will be the standard 100,000 FM for new characters, but like Alex before him, he will be free for all players until Capcom finally gets the Zenny system up and running, which will serve as their exchange system for real money. Including his trials, story content and availability across all modes, you might want to take advantage while you can.

No official date has been announced for the release of the April update, but Capcom is promising it will be available by the end of the month.

The latest Nintendo Direct had plenty of great first party news for Wii U and 3DS owners, but that didn’t mean third party announcements would get left in the dust. Perhaps the biggest announcement of the entire presentation, Capcom and Nintendo unveiled the latest Monster Hunter title, which will arrive on our 3DS handhelds a lot sooner that we thought.

Coming Summer 2016 and no longer titled Monster Hunter X, Monster Hunter Generations looks to bring even more mobility and attack options for our custom hunters to take advantage of when battling these towering beasts. Guns are seemingly getting a big overhaul, allowing gunners to leap above monsters and shoot them from the air, alongside some new air based sword attacks. My only concern is that MH4 was significantly easier thanks to its added attack options combined with many of the early monsters failing to adapt with the game play. If Generations’ early screens are anything to go by however, both new and returning monsters should be even more vicious, hopefully keeping up better with our new tricks.

Not to be outdone in the DLC department, Generations is already following up on MH4U’s massive amount of free costumes by revealing Marth’s gear from Fire Emblem being available for the title. You know why that’s awesome? Because the prince’s androgynous appearance would work for both men AND women!

Briefly: As I’ve likely expressed numerous times on the Geekscape Games podcast, aside from a few exceptions, fighting games are not generally my thing.

That said, Capcom has just debuted a 3+ minute CG trailer for Street Fighter V, and it’s probably the coolest look at the game that we’ve seen next.

As we get closer to Street Fighter V‘s 2016 release date, more of the roster has been slowly revealed. Unveiled in Dubai, the latest reveal is the second of four promised original characters with Rashid, a Middle Eastern fighter who uses the power of wind to compliment his nimble attacks.

Using parkour inspired movements to overwhelm his opponents, Rashid is a tech fanatic who is always on the lookout for the newest gadgets. A laid back fighter, this doesn’t mean opponents should take the newcomer lightly. When not lining up for hours outside the Apple Store, he can be found putting the hurt on his opponents pretty easily.

Surprise! After a dedicated group of fans pushed for R. Mika, the female wrestler who looked up to Zangief from the Street Fighter Alpha series, to be added to the growing Street Fighter IV roster, they… Ultimately didn’t get what they wanted. But as they say, better late than never. Capcom has announced that R. Mika will make her re-debut as the latest character to be revealed for Street Fighter V, and she’s not alone!

Bringing in her tag team partner, Nadeshiko, (who was formerly only shown during some of Mika’s special attacks,) Mika’s V-Skill allows the pair to bring on some double team action. Allowing easy mix ups, Nadeshiko can attack from above, below or behind while the main player continues their standard assault. Naturally, when all else fails, you can always give them a Stone Cold Stunner.

At the Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, it was announced that Big Hero 6 will be one of the new worlds featured in Kingdom Hearts 3!

San Fransokyo will be one of the locales that Sora and his friends will visit, taking place after the conclusion of the film. Hiro, Baymax, and the rest of the group are now a full fledged super hero team, fighting side by side with the Keyblade weilder as they defend their home from the incoming Heartless. Specific details are still a long ways away, but from the concept art that’s been shown, it’s clear that we’ll at least get to team up with Baymax, taking to the skies to fight some new, menacing Heartless.

Joining the previously announced Tangled world, it’s clear that the game is shifting towards Disney’s newer properties. At this point, I would say Frozen is a given, with Wreck-It Ralph being the biggest no brainer of all considering its video game ties. But with Big Hero Six being official, we’ll finally get to play super hero in the Kingdom Hearts universe. This game can’t come out soon enough!

Just in time for Gamescom, Capcom has revealed one more world warrior heading to Street Fighter V. Vega, the Spanish ninja who relies on his speed, power and long reaching claws to punish his opponents, returns with plenty of new tricks to keep the masked fighter fresh.

Every previous iteration of the Street Fighter II boss has relied on his claws for attacks, extending his reach and improving his strength while equipped. If he took enough damage, his claws would get knocked off, putting him at a disadvantage until he was able to recover them. This time around, that weakness has the potential to become a strength, since Vega now has two attack stances. His standard claw stance relies on many of the tricks we’ve expected from him for over 20 years, with fast, hard hitting attacks that are designed to confuse opponents. However, losing his claws acts as a second stance, granting him a series of new command grabs to confuse opponents further. Top this off with his V-Trigger, the Bloody Kiss, and Vega can now teleport behind enemies and slice them up with the toss of a rose. Oh, but if you are attached to that claw style, you better be careful, since claws can no longer be picked up once they’re dropped.

Like Ken before him, it’s easy to see that Vega is getting a pretty big overhaul, and not just because his alternate matador costume is now his default. He sounds like he’ll be a completely different beast on the battlefield, which is sure to excite new and old fans alike.

In one of the least surprising announcements imaginable, Ken was revealed as the next fighter joining the cast of the upcoming Street Fighter V. As the only character aside from Ryu who has appeared in ever main line game, Ken is essentially known as American Karate guy, who gains a flaming uppercut and a few technical changes from his Japanese counterpart. Once the cocky martial artist actually appeared on screen though, dare I say something was actually different about the fighting game veteran!

At the Street Fighter V Comic Con panel, the Capcom-Unity team, (as well as SFIV’s project manager and SFV‘s executive producer, Yoshinori Ono,) promised us that Ken’s drastic change in appearance wasn’t the only aspect of the character that was getting an overhaul. For the first time in series history, the team promised that the fighter we affectionately know as “red Ryu” will be a completely unique character who uses powerful, “showstopping” attacks that helps players fight aggressively, (and look good doing it!) His unique V-Skill would further separate him from the rest of the shotokan fighters by adding flaming properties to all of his moves, allowing him to extend combos while gaining a quicker back step when it’s time to play defensively.

From the trailer alone, we can see that his Hurricane Kick has been retooled to go in a diagonal arc, and can even be converted into a type of dive kick from the air. While some of his old moves carry over, it’s easy to see that Ken stands out much more now than he has in the past, but does this promise carry over to the main game?

It’s been a few months since we’ve heard any major news on Pokken Tournament, the upcoming Pokemon fighting game developed by the Tekken team at Namco Bandai. As if to make up for this travesty, the game received three new trailers, two of which reveal new fighters, and the third which serves as the opening to the game.

First is the introduction of Weavile, the Dark/Ice type that evolves from Generation II favorite, Sneasel. Using its sharp claws and powerful ice attacks, this Pokemon is often associated with the bad guys of the game’s universe. In Pokken, it puts its high attack and speed stats to great use, dodging opponents attacks and getting up close with ease.

Next, the Generation I favorite, Charizard, was more of a certainty than most. Still, seeing it in action has us all the more excited for the final game. Its powerful wings, claws and fire breath serve as reliable tools for putting the hurt on the enemy, which have carried this Pokemon through nearly two decades of battle. If that’s not enough, its Mega Evolution changes it into the black clad Mega Charizard X, which aims to finish off opponents in intimidating style.

Finally, the best news of all is that the game is right around the corner. Hitting Japanese arcades on July 16th, it wont’ be long before we’ll be able to see the full game in action. Console releases or localization plans haven’t been revealed yet, but considering that it’s Pokemon, it would be ridiculous for it to be passed up.
