Writer Kevin Jakubowski joins us on Geekscape to talk about his new book 8-Bit Christmas! Drawing inspiration from that time in our lives when all we wanted was that brand new game system, 8-Bit Christmas leads us into a discussion of our favorite Holiday related gaming memories, including Ben’s betrayal of his parents’ No Gameboy Rule! Also, what did we think of the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens and AMC spoils their own mid-season finale of The Walking Dead… and the internet erupts!

It’s been a while since we talked comics… so this episode is going to roll deep in the four colored funnies! Matt Hiscox, my cohost from The Comic Book Show on Twin Galaxies Live, guests on Geekscape to talk about all things Marvel and DC (and maybe some indie titles too)! Are the big events starting to wear the comic book renaissance thin again? What comic book TV shows are worth watching? Can Jonathan stay on top of DC’s Multiversity (especially after Pax Americana)? Is Grant Morrison the greatest writer in comics? And why José Luis García-López is the unsung hero of comic book art! There’s a lot of comic book talk on this episode but stay with us! You won’t regret it!

Tommy Avallone is one of my most frequent guests, he appeared back in Episode 1 but he hasn’t been on for over a year. Tommy’s film I Am Santa Claus is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray and will be on Netflix November 25th. It was great going into Philly and talking to Tommy about the movie, Santa Claus and wrestling.

The song during the intro is We’re All Theme Parks by Team Goldie.

One thing we don’t cover enough on Geekscape is the hugely popular world of RPGs and tabletop gaming! Both have been on a huge upswing in popularity for the past few years and it’s about time we reflected that on the show! To help us wade through the deep waters as a bunch of noobs, Ivan and Dom from Saving Throw join their buddy Ben Dunn to teach Kenny and I about the new generation of tabletop RPGs. We discuss the new mechanics of D&D and the difference between it and Pathfinder. Also, we suggest some other games to the audience, including horror based ones and the growing popularity of real world games like Puzzle Rooms! It’s a brand new day and age with an old familiar game on this episode of Geekscape!

We wrap up our experiences at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo and take a stance on Gamer Gate. Plus! What everyday tools would we craft together to kill a zombie is we were stranded on a zombie infested island?

Stan Lee’s Comikaze is finally right around the corner (better get those tickets quickly, it’s TOMORROW)! A myriad of Geekscape writers will be in attendance at the expo, and of course we couldn’t be more excited to hang out with you at the Geekscape Booth (that’d be Booth #1110)!

As the 3-day event has something for all sorts of different tastes, we thought that we’d make a list of our own personal highlights from the schedule! Here are the panels that each of us are looking forward to at next weekend’s Comikaze 2014!

If you’re attending the expo, be sure to visit us at Booth #1110, where we’ll have tons of shirts available (including the awesome new baseball t’s) and also an EXCLUSIVE print celebrating the return on Jonathan’s Own Super Action Man. We’ll be there all weekend! Now read on!

Kelsie Hernandez

It’s that Comikaze time of year again! And with each Comikaze, we get to see more awesome guests and more awesome panels to get excited for! Here are some of the panels that I’m looking forward to.

On Saturday morning, the iconic Adam West will be on the Hot Topic main stage to talk all things Batman, and help celebrate Batman’s 75th Anniversary! (10:30am – Hot Topic Main Stage)

Later on in the afternoon, Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman are bringing Hollywood Babble-On Smodcast live to Comikaze for Fatman on Batman: A tribute to Batman ’66! (1:30pm – Room 408AB)

Another one I’m looking forward to is Constantine: An Introduction, this gives Comikaze attendees a chance to meet the creators and get a sneak peak into the new series. (3:00pm – Hot Topic Main Stage)

On Sunday morning, there’s a spotlight panel on Jewel Staite, of Firefly and Stargate. (10:30am – Hot Topic Main Stage.

And shortly after, I might try to see the Comikaze Guest of Honor panel with John Barrowman, the star of Doctor Who, Arrow, Torchwood and so much more. (11:30am – 304ABC)

Juan Carlos Marquez

With Comikazee fast approaching, I find myself conflicted in trying to schedule my weekend in order to get in as much coverage as humanly possible. Right off the bat, it seems like the Hot Topic Main Stage will be the place to hang around all day Saturday–with the one and only Adam West kicking things off, followed by Rob Liefeld, and the folks behind NBC’s Constantine! Aside from the Main Stage action, I plan on checking out the Golden Age of Gaming panel in Room 301B and the Original Intellivision Game Designers Panel in Room 303AB. Of course, there’s no way I can miss our fearless leader in Geekscape’s Panel this Friday in Room 306AB at 6 P.M.

And since you lovely people will be there, stop by the Geekscape booth (#1110) and snag yourself some sweet Geekscape T-shirts and get an EXCLUSIVE Super Action Man print!

Jake Lopez

Comikaze is back and what better way to spend your Halloween then at the convention center celebrating all things geek! For those of you searching for a convention without the hassle or enormity of SDCC, Comikaze looks like the place to go. Honestly, looking over the programming schedule makes this year seem like one of the most laid-back stress-free conventions I’ve seen. And it’s not like there’s any shortage f sights to see. On Friday, panelists will screen a Batman Fan Film, “The Great Mistake of Dr. Miles”, which is of course followed by a Q&A with the creators in room 404AB at 4:00 PM. Afterwards, you should go check out Geekscape Live! in 306AB at 6:00 PM. *nudge nudge*

Saturday, I plan on hitting the sneak preview of the documentary “Showrunners: The Art of Running a TV Show”. I’m sure to find interviews with the likes of Damon Lindelof and Joss Whedon regarding television interesting. Afterward, I’m hoping to make it to the Dragon Ball Z – The Fall of Men panel in 304 ABC (1:00 PM). If you don’t know already, this particular DBZ installment is fan made and it looks fantastic. If for some reason I can’t make it to that, I plan at being in room 308AB at 1:30 PM for Spider-Man: The Animated Series 20th Anniversary. Need I say more?

On Sunday, one of the bigger panels will be taking place in 406AB at 10:00 AM with an early screening of “Gotham” episode 107. The screening is followed up by Executive Producer Danny Cannon.

I only wish I had more time to see some of the events Comikaze has to offer! The schedule is packed!

Derek Kraneveldt

I am so, so sad that I won’t be attending Comikaze this year. Last year’s convention weekend was by far one of the highlights of my year, both because of the chance to see all of my Geekscape friends and colleagues once more, but also because everything that Comikaze had to offer was beyond stellar.

This year, the guests are even better, the panel schedule has grown exponentially, and Geekscape is going live on the show floor. I’m almost debating jumping on a plane tomorrow and heading down, and here’s what I would be most interested in seeing:

Friday:

4:00 – 404AB – (BATMAN FAN FILM) THE GREAT MISTAKE OF DR. MILES

See the convention premier of 1960’s Batman fan film “The Great Mistake of Dr. Miles”, followed by Q&A and discussion with the cast and crew. The panel will conclude with a special announcement about the future of the project.

5:00 – 404AB – THE KAIJU KINGDOM LIVE PODCAST! – GODZILLA’S 60TH ANNIVERSARY/GAMERA’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Join a discussion about Godzilla 60th Anniversary and Gamera’s 50th Anniversary.

6:00 – 306AB – GEEKSCAPE LIVE! WITH SPECIAL GUESTS!

It’s freaking Geekscape, but LIVE. How the hell could I not show up to this?

Saturday:

9:00 – Hot Topic Main Stage – UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH STAN LEE, POWERED BY WEEV

Get intimate with Stan Lee and learn about all of the new projects he’s working on at POW! Entertainment.

10:30 – Hot Topic Main Stage – SPOTLIGHT: ADAM WEST

TV’s most prolific Batman joins us to talk all things Batman, and help celebrate Batman’s 75th Anniversary!

1:30 – 308AB – SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Spider-Man: The Animated Series introduced a whole generation to the famous web-slinger in the first of his adventures for TV that captured the true spirit of the original comic book.

2:30 – 308AB – RANDOM ENCOUNTERS’ VIDEO GAME MUSICALS

Watch your favorite games and series become Broadway show-stoppers, from an Arkham Asylum rock-opera to a Tim Burton-style Pac-Man musical! WARNING: This show contains catchy songs, nerdy humor and the dreaded Marshmallow Zone. Singalongs are welcome.

4:30 – Screening Room – THE ROOM

Join film-creator Tommy Wiseau at a special screening of his cult classic film!

Sunday

10:00 – 308AB – PUBLICIZING YOUR PROJECT

You’ve got a new comic, a new webseries, a new novel, a new TV show or movie? That’s great. But pretty meaningless if you and your friends are the only ones who know about it. How do you get the word out? Facebook and webpage, sure. That’s what everyone’s doing. What can you do to cut through the clutter and get your stuff actually seen, actually talked about, actually out there so people can see it, read it, watch it, buy it? People who have been getting projects seen dating back to “Star Wars” will give you advice on how you can do it for your project.

12:00 – 308AB – LION FORGE COMICS & IDW PUBLISHING: DIGITAL TO PRINT AND BEYOND!

Lion Forge Comics & IDW Publishing: Digital to Print and Beyond! Lion Forge Editor-In-Chief Shannon Eric Denton discusses Lion Forge titles Airwolf vs. Knight Rider, Miami Vice, Chavo Guerrero, Rampage Jackson, Andre the Giant, Care Bears, Saved By The Bell, Saber Riders & the Star Sheriffs, Punky Brewster and more! Join Shannon and the Lion Forge creative teams as they discuss these properties along with their recently announced print- partnership with IDW Publishing!

1:00 – 308AB – HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN NOVEL: FROM THE FIRST IDEA TO PUBLISHING AND WHAT YOU NEED TO SELL YOUR WORK TO TV AND FILM

Join the Winner Twins while they teach you how to create your own novel step by step, from building your universe to overcoming writer’s block to the different paths to publishing. The Winner Twins will be joined by bestselling author, and renowned actor, Richard Hatch, of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fame, and Steven-Elliot Altman, author of such novels as DEPRIVERS and BATMAN: FEAR ITSELF.

I’m barely scratching the surface here. There is so much that I’d like to see at this year’s Comikaze, and that’s not even mentioning the show floor, where I’d be bound to spend far, far, far too much money on things that I love.

Also, I’m really, really going to miss Lawry’s Carvery!

Are you hitting up Comikaze this year? What are you most looking forward to? Sound out below!

Geekscape arrives at TradioV for brand new weekly episodes! Joining us on these new adventures are co-host Kenny Craig and longtime Geekscapist Ben Dunn! Linus is also a part of Nerf Herder, so Parry and Steve call up to say hello and talk about the upcoming Nerf Herder album and how you can be a part of it! Also, Kenny talks about almost attending his high school reunion and Linus warns Jonathan not to “fuck it up”… but of course he figures out how anyways! Big news, Geekscapists, that a lot of you have been wanting for months now… NEW WEEKLY EPISODES OF THE GEEKSCAPE PODCAST!

We’ve been on this journey for 8 years now. Looking back, I can hardly believe it. Putting together Geekscape, the podcast, the site, the community and more has been one of the most rewarding things in my life. But it’s also been a small army’s worth of work. There’s no way I could do it without the help of everyone involved today or in years past. And of course I couldn’t do it without you.

And now I have some good news as a sign of thank you! After a sporadic first nine months of 2014, the Geekscape podcast is returning to a weekly schedule! This was the seed from which our little community was born and it’s about time we watered it!

Now hosted exclusively on Soundcloud, and still distributed on iTunes, Podcast One and Stitcher, the Geekscape podcast will also now be recorded weekly LIVE IN STUDIO with our friends at TradioV! Every Monday at 7pm PST!

And because we hate wasting time… we’re starting it all up THIS MONDAY, OCTOBER 6th, at 7pm PST!

Our friends Linus and Parry from Nerf Herder (the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme song) are our first guests!

This includes a live and recorded in studio video stream for you to watch each week! Just like with our friends at Toadhop, you can call also in live and be a part of the show yourself!

I am so happy to be returning to a studio to do the show. Not only does it help ensure a better sounding show, it makes it easier for me to deliver an episode each week and bring in bigger and better guests for all of you! And you can watch it and call in! Those are the things I always wanted the show to include and I’ve been working hard to bring them to you.

You’ll definitely want to subscribe to our Soundcloud page and catch our first episode back this Monday at TradioV!

Thanks for being a part of this journey, whether this is your first time with Geekscape or if you’ve been with us for 8+ years! We’re going to have a lot more fun for even more years to come!

Geekscape is returning to NYCC… and we want to hang out!

We’ll be walking the Javits Center and getting into trouble during the day, but at night, it’ll be time to get together, take a load off and catch up! So why not meet some of your fellow Geekscapists? Maybe our Charlie Day look alike will return!

I know NY natives Eric Francisco and Big Yanks will be there!

Here are the details:

Friday, October 10th!

We are meeting at Lansdowne Road! They’re a few blocks North of the Con, a short walk or shorter taxi ride!

599 10th Ave  New York, NY 10036

lansdowne-party-room-4

Check out their menu (it’s affordable and good).

Dinner – 7pm (everyone handles their own tab)

Hanging Out – 8pm and on!

Perhaps we will find that mysterious nameless Geekscapist again this year… Last year, he regaled Big Yanks and I with his stories of geekdom and growing up as a Geekscapist… and then left into the night, never to be seen again…

Obviously we’ve been big fans of Sean Astin for years. Goonies, Rudy, TMNT, The Lord of the Rings and now The Strain have made us all lifelong fans. But there’s a lot about Sean that you may not know, like how active he is in politics and that he’s an avid runner. Well, you’re going to know all that now as he guests on the show and tells us about his conflicted character on The Strain, stepping barefoot into Middle Earth, being involved in politics and his talk show Vox Populi and whether or not he can keep pace with me as a distance runner (he can)! I think you’ll find him to be everything you expected: a smart, thoughtful guy who is passionate about everything he does. I loved having him on the show!

Power Morphicon was this past weekend and everyone was there celebrating all things Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! Oh, except me. I don’t know up from down when it comes to Power Rangers so I recruited our resident expert Eric Francicso, who has been going to Morphicon since 2007, to break things down for me. How was Morphicon? What were the big announcements? And for a newbie like me, what’s the best way to start watching the series? He spells things out pretty clear on this new episode so I guess it’s Morphin Time!

A very interesting topic has come up over the weekend. The entire events and goings on have been collected in this, albeit long, video. If you care at all about video games in the slightest, then I HIGHLY suggest you give this a watch.

http://youtu.be/C5-51PfwI3M

The sites and people implicated in this video are some of the big dogs in the video game journalism industry. It brings up a great topic that needs to be addressed. Accountability and Honesty.

If any of the allegations are true, then we have ourselves a huge problem on our hands. When personal agendas (we here at Geekscape have No Agenda) get pushed through big media outlets, like the ones implicated in the above video, we have a failure of the industry. You as consumers need to keep people like us in check, so that we can accurately cover the topics you hold dear. If this kind of stuff goes on, then you the consumer will be hurt.

One of the interesting things to come of this is the mass censorship of the above video and it’s topic. When it was posted on Reddit’s /r/gaming earlier, it was immediately removed from the page and all the comments deleted. It wasn’t until the video was posted on /r/videos that I found out about the subject. Turns out the head moderator of /r/gaming felt the video was against Reddit’s rules, but the head moderator at /r/videos felt like it was NOT.

Capture2

What is interesting about this, is that the moderator from /r/gaming in question has publicly reached out to Miss Quinn.

1408455472720

Now this isn’t about if she fucked a couple (5) guys. It’s about her using her relationships with people in the media to affect articles and news to profit. To knock out competitors, or people that she deemed “oppressive”. Its about creating a terrible image for females in the video game industry.

Miss Quinn has said that she won’t respond to anything about this above subject because it’s not about “video games”. What I have to say to you Miss Quinn, is you can’t have your cake and eat it too. You’ve vocally taken a stance on things that do NOT directly correlate with gaming, but pick and choose when that topic is valid. You’ve said that this is just a push to crush creativity. This is NOT a push to crush creativity. This is the start of a movement to keep people like me, people like the folks over at Nerd Reactor, the people at Kotaku and others honest.

The Question of The Day

So the question of the day, the dear readers of Geekscape, is what do you think of this whole incident? Please consume the evidence and form your own opinion. We want to hear from you how you feel about the subject of Honesty in Journalism. How do you the readers think we the Press should be held accountable? Please share this post, share the video and propagate the formula. Honesty.

Addendum

I would like to point out that during the writing of my piece, the video from Mundane Matt had been re-uploaded. His take down was the catalyst for the story getting out. It goes back to the start of my article. When corruption in the industry is rampant, you the consumer hurts. Miss Quinn abused YouTubes DMCA take down policy, and will most likely abuse Twitter’s abuse policy in all of this. Her correspondence with the Reddit /r/gaming mod needs to be taken into question as well. His public response thread is full of questions that aren’t getting answered.

A few months back we launched our new YouTube channel, GeekscapeTV.

In that time, we’ve come out with some pretty stellar content, including Paul London: Hero of the Prophecy, Lou Ferrigno Playing Flappy Bird, Jonathan’s Award Winning Gay By Dawn (now in HD), Stan Lee Talking Marvel vs. DC, Shane O’Hare talkin’ cosplay, S.A.M. telling us about freedom, and much much more.

Last week, we hit 1000 subscribers. Our YouTube partners over at Fullscreen invited us to their offices to celebrate… or so we thought. Here’s what happened:

Yes, we have really been around that long, and we’re so thankful for all of your support over the years!

Have a favourite Geekscape moment? Let us know in the comments!

With just sixteen days to go until preview night, San Diego Comic Con 2014 is fast approaching!

All of us here at Geekscape couldn’t be more excited to attend the show once again (after attending my first SDCC last year, I’ve actually been counting down the days since the moment I stepped back into Canada). We’ll have tons of coverage coming your way, lots of cool stuff to show off (you have seen Hero of the Prophecy, right?), a multitude of guest signings and appearances, an amazing party for you to attend, and way, way more (as if that wasn’t enough). It’s set to be our biggest year at the convention ever, so be sure to visit us at booth #3919 (same spot as last year, baby), and read on for all the details about the fourth annual Comic-Con Nerd-A-Thon!

The fourth annual Comic-Con Nerd-A-Thon hits The Merrow on July 25th, and is presented by Tiny Nightmare Productions, Geekscape, Devil’s Playground Burlesque, and Eat.Geek.Play.

This year’s showcase will feature Nerdcore Hip Hop Legends MC Frontalot, MC Lars, Schaffer the Dark Lord and Dr. Awkward as well as a fivepiece geek rock band, Chamber Band. Live “Star Girls” Burlesque performances from Devil’s Playground Burlesque with Courtney Cruz as Storm Trooper and Mia Vixen as the Red Guard from Star Wars.

Tickets are available now for a cool $25 here. Be sure to pick them up soon, as they’re going fast. You can take a look at the poster for the show below, and if you need a refresher on each artist, just keep scrolling. We hope to see you at the show, and be sure to look out for our full SDCC schedule in the coming weeks!

NerdAThonFull

MC Frontalot, known as the “Godfather of Nerdcore” will be coheadlining the show with MC Lars this year. MC Frontalot, called alternately the movement’s godfather ), leads the charge, performing for thousands around the country and at prominent geek gatherings such as ComicCon, the Penny Arcade Expo and BlizzCon. He’s been featured in Newsweek, CNN, The New York Times, Spin, Wired, Blender, XXL, XLR8R, The London Daily Telegraph, NPR, G4TV, Esquire, Playboy, CMJ, The Guardian (UK), The Wall Street Journal, and scores of city papers nationally and internationally. He has released five studio albums, Nerdcore Rising (Sept 2005), Secrets From The Future (Apr 2007), Final Boss (Nov 2008), Zero Day (Apr 2010), and Solved (Aug, 2011). His sixth, Question Bedtime, is due in September 2014. The documentary feature, Nerdcore Rising: The Movie, which focuses on Front’s live band and the Nerdcore phenomenon in general, debuted at the South By Southwest Film Festival in 2008, and is currently available on Netflix and Hulu.

MC Lars, who is coheadlining this year, is known for his postpunk laptop rap. Lars has been fusing literary themes with high energy beats and touring nonstop since 2003. During his to return to San Diego he will debut some new songs for the first time in America, which will be featured on his kickstarter supported, upcoming album, “the Zombie Dinosaur LP”.

Schaffer the Dark Lord, is a NYCbased rapper and comedian Schaffer the Darklord (STD) has known for his commanding stage presence and brainy, rapidfire rhymes to skewer such topics as hedonistic substance abuse, sexual compulsion, gender identity, urban anxiety and obsessive catenthusiasts. With five fulllength albums under his belt and experience touring the nation with such acts as MC Chris, MC Frontalot and MC Lars. STD’s music and live show are equal parts Bill Hicks, Beastie Boys, Prince, Ozzy Osbourne and Darth Vader. He’s made multiple appearances on the Science Channel television program “Oddities,” and when he’s not on the road, he serves as emcee for countless NYC burlesque shows and produces/cohosts his podcast, “The Epic Piecast.” His latest record “Sick Passenger,” a concept album set during a mysterious therapy session, was released in October 2013 to glowing praise from his cultlike fan base and critics alike. Schaffer the Darklord continues to write, record and perform with great frequency and has no intention of giving up until his masochist rocknroll lifestyle destroys him.

Dr. Awkward, is a local San Diegan who has been touring across the country as a nerdcore hip hop artist for the past six years and was on the road with MC Chris last summer. This summer “Doc Awk” joins his friends on stage at this year’s NerdaThon

Chamber Band, is a full band hailing from New York City, known for their witty and comical songs about love, heartbreak and dragons. The fivepiece band plays songs within the nerdcentric realm of awesomeness, of course.

I attended Philadelpiha Wizard World on Sunday (22nd) and grabbed some interviews with a bunch of people including Lloyd Kaufman of Troma, the good people of RetroCon and Scott Derby to name few. This episode also comes with the bonus content of a microphone fuck up where the whole interview is just last week’s guest Lily LeDeux selling photos while I try to interview her boss. Lesson is don’t us omnidirectional mics at a convention.

Kevin should have been on the podcast about 80 episodes ago. Him and I have had such a long term friendship that it’s embarrassing that it took this long to get him on the show to talk about his music. After about a year and a half Kevin is breaking up his band In Case It Rains to be the full time drummer for Rivers Monroe. Their tour begins June 10th. Be sure to check out their tour dates and say hello to Kevin.

Also the song playing during the intro is Turncoat off Unsung Zeroes album Moments from Mourning.

Indie Sci Fi director Neil Johnson has been a friend for a few years and an avid Geekscape listener for the same amount of time! One of the first directors to make a fully digital film, and science fiction film at that, Neil and I sat down to talk about the challenge of making low budget science fiction movies and indie filmmaking. Neil also justifies the Star Wars prequels better than anyone ever has before and talks about his upcoming film ‘Starship Rising’. Things get very personal on this episode as we talk about our approaches and inspirations. This is easily one of my favorite Geekscape’s yet!

’X-Men: Days of Future Past’ is upon us and here is our spoiler-filled review and breakdown of the latest Marvel Mutant Epic! Ian Kerner, the Encyclopedia of all things four color funny, joins me to discuss what this movie fixes in the X-Men cinematic universe, what it establishes and what might still be up in the air! How does the movie differ from the comic book storyline and what can we expect in X-Men: Apocalypse? If you haven’t seen the movie, you’re gonna want to steer clear… but if you have you should dive right in with all six claws swinging!

Ian Kerner wasn’t shy about his dislike of The Amazing Spider-Man… in fact, I don’t think either of us were. So what drew us back to the theaters for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a movie that has received the worst reviews of any movie in the Spider-Man franchise? Well, it’s Spider-Man, that’s why! But could we be surprised by the outcome? Is it possible that we will dislike this movie more than the last… or could it possibly surprise us? Prepare yourself for one of the most surprising and insightful Geekscape episodes yet!

Briefly: Here at Geekscape, we’ve been working hard to bring you plenty of quality content for our new YouTube channel, Geekscape TV.

So far, you’ve seen The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened? director Jon Schnepp detail his top 5 Superman stories, Jonathan playing some real life Mario Kart at SXSW, Stan Lee talking Marvel vs. DC (and more),  Lou Ferrigno playing Flappy Bird, of course Hero of the Prophecy, and much more!

We’ve got plenty more coming down the pipeline, but today we want to show you something very special. Our resident My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic super fan (or Brony, whatever you want to call him), Shane O’Hare was just in California for this year’s WonderCon, and he put together an excellent Rarity cosplay. Watch him detail his outfit, awkwardly hit on Nicole, and show off his finished product below!

Bronies and Cosplayers, how did Shane do? Don’t forget to subscribe to GeekscapeTV on Youtube, because we’ve got plenty more where this came from!

Brian Walton is the current Editor in Chief of Nerdist.com and Nerdist News… but more importantly, Brian is a beloved Geekscape alumnus! Not since he left Geekscape all those years ago for greener pastures has Brian been a Geekscape guest and now he returns to talk WonderCon, Coachella and the April Fool’s Nerdist acquisition of Geekscape! But that’s not all. We have an incredibly candid heart to heart that helps make this Geekscape episode one of my personal favorites of all time. Oh, and we discuss horse fucking. Really. And when horses fuck… they fuck to kill.

Briefly: WonderCon’s coming up (just two more days away, yes!) and we couldn’t be more excited to partake in the convention yet again.

As always, Geekscape’s got its own booth (#208 this year), so please, please, come hang out, say hello, pick up a t-shirt, give is your best Hail Hydra, or at least take a look at Shane’s Rarity cosplay (it’ll be there in full force).

We have a few sweet, sweet guests stopping by for signings, like Ben 10‘s Yuri Lowenthal and his wife (and again, Ben 10 star) Tara Platt on Friday from 1-2 PM, and The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? director Jon Schnepp on Saturday from 2-5.

Also Friday from 1-2PM, Jonathan can be found at the Lion Forge Comics booth (#801), signing Miami Vice posters with artist Carl Reed. Speaking of Lion Forge comics, Jonathan’s also a part of the Lion Forge panel on Saturday from 11AM-12PM in room 210A. These panels are always fantastic, and Saved By The Bell‘s Dennis Haskins will host!

We’re looking forward to the weekend, and we’re looking forward to seeing you! Take a look at the video below to learn more of what we’ll be up to at the convention!

It’s time! Captain America: The Winter Soldier has arrived so it’s time for Ian Kerner to tell us everything there is to know about both the movie and the comic book origins! Is this the strongest Marvel movie yet? How faithful did they stick to the source material and where might things go from here? And do the events of the film mean you should go back to watching Agents of SHIELD? And can Ian convince me that all of the monologuing in the movie is justified? Just know one thing… THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!

Well, it’s been a long time in the works, and we’ve done a good job of not letting the cat out of the bag, but after almost three months of negotiations we can proudly announce that Geekscape, Geekscape TV and all things Geekscape have been acquired by our good friends at Nerdist.

Nerdscape Tweet

We can’t release exact details of the acquisition quite yet, but we are all excited to be joining our former Geekscape peers now at Nerdist Brian Walton, Witney Seibold and Eric Diaz under the Nerdist banner (heck, it was only a matter of time before we were all over there anyways, right?). Well, everyone but Matt Kelly, who is being let go.

Also departing is Geekscape founder Jonathan London, who is moving on to other pursuits. “(Nerdist Editor in Chief) Brian Walton is one of my favorite people on the planet and I feel really good about handing everything over to him. I’m really proud of the guy. It seems like just yesterday that I found him stealing the hubcaps off of my replica Batmobile and started him writing for Geekscape. To watch his rising career has been a real pleasure.”

Joining former Geekscape writers Seibold and Diaz will be current Geekscape managing editor Derek Kraneveldt, who will have to relocate from the outskirts of Vancouver to Burbank, California. Geekscape contributor Shane O’Hare will help beef up Nerdist’s My Little Pony and Brony-themed content while writer Joshua Jackson head the companies pro-wrestling contributions. Geekscape writer Juan Carlos Marquez will fulfill the new title of Señor Director of Nintendo and Nintendo Ambassador services. Also in the mix is current Nerdist video-games writer Malik Forté, who never wrote for Geekscape but who both Walton and London met in Vegas while covering CES for Geekscape and thought “man, he’s a really cool guy.”

Rumored to be rejoining as well is former Geekscape editor Brian Gilmore, who can’t possibly be doing a very good a job as Managing Editor for the popular Tobuscus Youtube channel and may soon be out on the street. Thank goodness he now has friends in high places.

This acquisition comes on the heels of numerous Geekscape employees migrating to Nerdist over the course of a few years. Fox Business Global Markets Editor Maria Bartiromo was quoted on the new merger saying:

I believe this was a deliberate and well executed maneuver of the team at Geekscape.net. The gradual shift of writers, editors and contributors from Geekscape.net to Nerdist shows that the inevitable merger was the goal of Geekscape all along. They planted their best and brightest at Nerdist and waited for them to bear fruit. And then they fired Matt Kelly.

The whereabouts of former Geekscape contributor Ben Dunn can not be confirmed at this time… but you should lock your doors and windows regardless. He has been known to change under the full moon.
