Our pal, writer, and Geekscape Games host Shane O’Hare loves My Little Pony. I mean loves. More than he loves, well, anything (including writing for Geekscape, his parents, flossing,  the list goes on and on).

He also lives in Alaska, which is (apparently) a super boring place to live.

A few months back, Shane had this crazy idea that only an obsessed Brony could concoct: bring all of (or many of) his fellow Bronies to Alaska so that he wouldn’t feel so alone… and rationalize it all by organizing a My Little Pony themed parade.

He told us that it would be huge, and that he’d love to stream it live on GeekscapeTV so that all of our readers and listeners could be a part of the festivities. We told him that we didn’t want any part in the damned thing… But he’s trying to make it happen anyways.

So, the least that we could do is give him a few minutes of our time with a Crowdfund This piece…

I mean, just look at how desolate Alaska can be:

And look at how much Shane loves dressing like a cartoon horse:

Wouldn’t you love to see an ear-to-ear smile on that man’s face? Shane’s looking to raise a cool $40116 to cover the costs of stables, parade organization, and to catch up on a few past-due bills (these things are expensive, okay), and as the campaign is officially starting today, he’s currently sitting at 0% of his unabashed campaign goal.

Of course, as with every crowdfunding campaign, there are some sweet, sweet rewards available for backers. We’ve got Shane O’Hare t-shirts, posters, and autographs. He’ll record you a hype voicemail message if that’s what you’re looking for, and for one generous backer, he’ll even share a bed with you at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Oh yeah, Kickstarter also declined to run Shane’s campaign, so if you’re looking to back the project (and how could you not want to at this point), you’ll want to contact Shane directly on Twitter @ShaneOhare. You can totally trust him.

This week Matt is Joined by Shane O’hare of the Geekscape Games podcast. We discuss the origins of the podcast, the Amiibo addictions of his co-hosts, his DJ career, getting his cohosts drunk and breakdancing at San Diego Comic Con.

Briefly: Here at Geekscape, we’ve been working hard to bring you plenty of quality content for our new YouTube channel, Geekscape TV.

So far, you’ve seen The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened? director Jon Schnepp detail his top 5 Superman stories, Jonathan playing some real life Mario Kart at SXSW, Stan Lee talking Marvel vs. DC (and more),  Lou Ferrigno playing Flappy Bird, of course Hero of the Prophecy, and much more!

We’ve got plenty more coming down the pipeline, but today we want to show you something very special. Our resident My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic super fan (or Brony, whatever you want to call him), Shane O’Hare was just in California for this year’s WonderCon, and he put together an excellent Rarity cosplay. Watch him detail his outfit, awkwardly hit on Nicole, and show off his finished product below!

Bronies and Cosplayers, how did Shane do? Don’t forget to subscribe to GeekscapeTV on Youtube, because we’ve got plenty more where this came from!

A study that can be found on Deadline surprisingly reveals that online piracy has negligible effects on movie box office results. The extensive study, titled “Reel Piracy: The Effect of Online Film Piracy on International Box Office Sales,” was spearheaded by Brett Danaher of Wellesley College and Joel Waldfogel at the University of Minnesota and the National Bureau of Economic Research. Even with the rise of piracy, red blooded Americans still prefer to see films in theaters rather than on their awful, awful pirate computers powered by slaves and sea prisoners.

Don’t think that awful pirate Geekscapists like Shane O’hare and Sandstone are off the hook for the damage they’ve done though. Historically, a movie that’s been out a few weeks and has been pirated sees a bigger decrease in overseas box office than it would have almost a decade ago, before the rise of bit torrent sites.

So yes, pirating is still bad. And you’re still a cheapskate.
