2 years ago, a disgruntled Koji Igarashi left Konami to make the Castlevania game of his dreams that Konami didn’t want to make. He launched the mega popular Kickstarter for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and has been hard at work on the game ever since then. They hit tons of stretch goals, including one that would get the game on the Wii U. Well, we all know that the Wii U essentially kicked the bucket back in late 2015, and with the recent success of the Nintendo Switch, there have been some major changes.

Just like Yooka Laylee a couple of months back, Igarashi announced today in the newest update that Bloodstained is no longer coming out for Nintendo’s red headed gamepad forcing step child. Instead, the game will launch on the Switch, and backers who once backed the Wii U version can now change to the Switch with ease, as well as other platforms. While sad for Wii U owners, this is another great game heading to the Switch via 3rd party support, and we couldn’t be happier for it.

What do you think? Which version of Bloodstained will you be getting? Check out the announcement right here.

Its been a long time since Spongebob Squarepants has been consistently good. The first 3-4 Seasons plus the first movie was some of the smartest stuffto come out of a supposedly “kids show.” Even now with current episodes and seasons not reaching the original heights it used to (although it has started getting better again.) the shows creator Stephen Hillenburg should be applauded at the empire he has created, and how he single handedly changed cartoons forever after Spongebob.

Sadly, it seems like bad things always happen to good people as Hillenburg himself recently announced that he has been diagnosed with early stages of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. For those unaware at what ALS is, it’s a disease that slowly deteriorates and weakens the nerve cells in your boday, making it hard to do almost anything after a while. Even with this diagnosis, Hillenburg says he will work as hard as he’s ever had on the show until he can’t any longer. To Mr. Hillenburg and his family: We here at Geekscape wish only the best for you, and thank you for hat you’ve done for animation as a whole.

Back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, Capcom used to be the king when it came to making licensed video games. More specifically, games based off of the insanely popular Disney Afternoon. 4 years ago we were treated to a great DuckTales remake, but since then, not much else has happened with those beloved classics.

This morning, Capcom has announced that they’ll be keeping the classics alive as they’ll be releasing The Disney Afternoon Collection later this year. The game will release for $20 on April 18th, and will include both DuckTales,  both Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, and Darkwing Duck, but there’s more to the collection than just the initial 6 games. Much akin to 2015’s Rare Replay, the collection will add additional features such as behind the scenes art, a rewind feature, and snapshot challenges including time attacks and boss rushes.

As of right now, the collections biggest downside is that it will not be releasing on the Nintendo Switch. It’s quite a head scratcher seeing as how all of these games originated on the NES. Perhaps if demand is high enough, then Capcom might consider a Switch release. Check out the trailer below, and bask in the glorious Disney nostalgia!

2 Years ago Cartoon Network released an IOS/Android game titled Steven Universe: Attack the Light to modest success. The shows creator Rebecca Sugar had a big hand in helping bring the game to life by implementing a lot of what she loved about early Nintendo titles. She took inspiration from the backgrounds in Yoshi’s island and also implemented the turn based combat style of the Paper Mario games to create a fun experience for anyone that’s a fan of the show.

This morning though, Cartoon Network has announced that not only is a sequel in production and coming out this summer, but that this time its coming to home consoles. Steven Universe: Save the Light doesn’t have a concrete release date or even specific platforms yet, but more info on the game will be revealed this weekend at PAX East. The games story will be written by Sugar herself just like last time, and will continue the turn based RPG of the previous games. Are you excited for the game? Did you ever play Attack the Light? Tell us in the comments below!

After almost 30 years since the original NES game, and a handful of sequels that seemed to lose sight of what the series was, Blaster Master Zero is a great return of an old series that seems to have been forgotten in the last couple of years, and we couldn’t be happier for its return.

Blaster Master Zero serves almost as a reboot of the series, but also a sequel of sorts. Your goal remains the same though as you’ll once again be guiding Sophia III through 8 metroidvania inspired areas as you blast your way through a variety of enemies and bosses all in the name of trying to find your pet frog Fred. The story is full of camp and pretty cheesy, but it does the job and is pretty enjoyable throughout the game’s 10 Hour campaign.

One of the best things about BMZ is its art style. Developer Inti Creates did an amazing job on the sprite work. All the areas you remember from the original Blaster Master are here and they’re looking just as vibrant and colorful as ever. Same can be said for the characters as they look great during cinematic cut-scenes and even in their portraits.  Music is also very nice as the tracks are all updated versions of the original music, and don’t stay their welcome too long as by the time a track is starting to wear on you, you’ll already be in another area with a new song.

One of the most notable things about the Blaster Master series is the gameplay shift that happens when you exit Sophia to enter a dungeon area. All of a sudden the gameplay shifts to a top down side scroller with a completely different arsenal at your side. you start off with a basic blaster, but can constantly upgrade your gun by picking up power ups dropped by enemies, although you can easily lose those upgrades if you get hit too much. This makes for an initial approach that encourages being more methodical during boss encounters than just run and gun.

As stated earlier, the game is in the metroidvania genre. This means you’ll be re visiting previous areas multiple times, but finding new paths through them thanks to the great variety of weapons and sub weapons you receive from defeating bosses. Can’t reach a dungeon because you can’t jump underwater? Get through the next couple of areas and then return later. Another nice touch with the game is that just like its NES counterpart, the game doesn’t bombard you with tutorials and instructions like a lot of modern games love doing. When you start the game you’re thrown into the world without hesitation. Don’t worry though, you can always check the controls in the pause menu by pressing -, and later you can even get hints from your assistant Eve on the sub menu screen with +.

Sadly the game is far from perfect and has a couple of notable issues. While at first its smart to be more methodical with the top down gameplay as to not lose your weapon upgrades, this becomes an issue later on in the game as you can easily collect a power-up that allows you to take damage without losing an upgrade. This would be fine, but the recharge rate on the shield is a bit too fast. As a result, not only will you be plowing your way through dungeons with the most powerful upgrade, but this also causes boss battles to be way too easy and a bit anti climactic.

Not only that, but some of the bosses are also nothing but a variety of regular enemies that constantly spawn in a room, and there’s a bit too much for us. The ending of the game also suffers as it pulls a pretty dirty trick on the player at the end of the game. Let’s just say that you’ll be wanting to 100% the game on your first run through.

Overall, Blaster Master Zero is a great comeback for the series, and we wouldn’t be opposed to seeing the franchise return for a couple of more games. While the bosses, and final act of the game do weigh it down a bit, the game is still tons of fun to play and experience. If you’re a Blaster Master fan or even a newcomer to the series, don’t hesitate to strap into Sophia III and get blasting.

Final Verdict: ★★★★

Last week was a pretty packed week for news what with the Nintendo Switch launch and Logan.

What you may have missed though, is that Disney released the first trailer for the highly anticipated DuckTales Reboot heading to Disney XD this summer! The trailer seems to definitely take more inspiration from the original comic books than the 80’s series, but still has plenty of things for both fans of the TV series and comics. The biggest change seems to be a complete overhaul of Webby’s character which is actually very much appreciated. Check out the trailer below, and let’s hope that the crew behind this new series doesn’t QUACK under pressure (I’m so sorry for that pun I apologize.)

What we originally thought would be a shoe in role for Vin Diesel is no more. Marvel has found their Black Bolt for the Inhumans TV Series.

Anson Mount, known for his role as Cullen Bohannon on AMC’s Hell on Wheels.  For those not aware of what’s happening with Inhumans still, here’s a quick rundown. Marvel will release a TV Series based off Inhumans this Fall. The first 2 episodes will be released in limited release in IMAX this September, and will then continue on ABC. Are you interested in this series? Who would you have casted as Black Bolt? Tell us in the comments below!

Rounding out one more highlight from this mornings Nindie presentation, is Snake Pass.

Developed by Sonic and All Stars Racing developer Sumo Digital, Snake Pass is a 3D physics platformer where you play as a snake traversing many different worlds. The game was just recently announced for the Nintendo Switch, but that’s not the biggest part. The composer of the game is none other than legendary composer David Wise who is most known for his work on Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, 3 GBA, and Tropical Freeze.  The game has some gorgeous visuals and will release at the end of March on the 28th. Check out the trailer below and get grooving with some of those sweet trailer tunes.

One of the more overlooked indie series has to be the Bit Trip Runner games.

The series started on the Wii and also cross-overed to other platforms like PC, PS4, etc with its sequel Runner 2. Now Commander Video returns back to Nintendo platforms exclusively for Runner 3 on the Nintendo Switch this fall. Not much is known about the game yet, but hopefully there’s more to come in the future. Check out the trailer below!, and buy Runner 2 on Steam, PSN, XBLA, or the E-shop if you haven’t already!

In a bit of fun and surprising news, it turns out that we’re getting a brand new Blaster Master game!

Today during the Nindie showcase, Inti Creates and Sunsoft announced that they’ll be releasing a brand new Blaster Master game for the Nintendo Switch and 3DS in the form of Blaster Master Zero. The game will bring back a lot of the classic gameplay styles from the original NES game like side scrolling shooter and top down action stages. The game will also include a new co-op mode for you and a friend. The best part? The game is launching next week on March 9th! Check out the trailer below and get ready to do some blasting.

Earlier this morning Nintendo showcased tons of great indie developers and content heading to the Nintendo Switch, and Team 17 was among them

It seems like Team 17 is all in on the console, as they have some exciting titles planned for launch. first up on the plate is the higly anticipated Yooka Laylee which has finally been confirmed as officially being on the console. Still no release date, but Nintendo and Playtonic say it won’t be much longer till release which could indicate that it will launch same day as the other platforms. On top of that, they also showed off a brand new trailer with a new snow themed world titled Glitterglaze Glacier. The game is still on track for an April 11th release.

Also being served up on Nintendo Switch will be Overcooked!. Team 17 announced that not only will the Switch be getting Overcooked!: Special Edition, but that the game will also include HD Rumble that will let you feel the sloshing from the weight of carrying soup, or cuts from a tomato. No date on when we can expect it, but the game will also include all DLC.

Last, but least, The Escapists 2 will also be making its way to the Switch later this year alongside the other versions being released. No specific release again, but it’s great to see the company all in on the system. What is your favorite Team 17 game? Tell us in the comments below!

It’s always hard to lose a beloved actor, especially one that could have had at least another 20+ years to give.

Yesterday morning, Actor Bill Paxton died at the age of 61 due to complications from heart surgery. Paxton suffered a fatal stroke Post-op and sadly passed. Paxton was a beloved actor appearing in films such as Predator 2, the original Terminator, and of course Aliens where he delivered one of the films most iconic lines: “Game over man! Game over!” We hear at Geekscape are saddened by the passing and wish his family only the best. It may be game over for him, but his legacy will live on.

Potentially leaked just a couple of days ago, today, WB Games has announced that they are indeed working on a sequel to the 2014 hit Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Titled Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Not much has been said or revealed about the game, but the trailer shows the ring of power being crafted and a great war for Mordor about to begin. No specific systems have been named, but we can assume it’ll be on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 (and maybe Switch.) The game will release on August 22nd 2017, with a gameplay reveal coming March 8th which is next week! What did you think about the original Middle-earth game? Tell us in the comments below!

For those of you that won’t be completely swallowed by the hype trains behind the Nintendo Switch and Horizon Zero Dawn, look no further than Xbox’s Games with Gold for March 2017.

While not the strongest line-up in the history of the service, there are still some interesting and fun games worth taking a look at. Xbox One users will be able to play the horror title Layers of Fear as well as the infamous team shooter Evolve. Xbox 360 users (also playable on Xbox One) will be able to get their hands on the extremely addicting Borderlands 2, and Popcap’s side scrolling shooter Heavy Weapon. Yooka Laylee is still around 2 months away from release, but there’s still plenty to say about the game before it launches on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on April 11th.

Today, Playtonic Games announced that the Soundtrack to the game will be available via CD, vinyl, and digital 4 days prior to the games release on April 7th. UPDATE: It seems like ComingSoon.net has just confirmed that Reeves will indeed be directing and producing the film. What an emotional roller coaster

Well, that was quick

2 weeks ago we reported that WB and Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves  were in talks to make him the director of the upcoming Ben Affleck solo film The Batman, but it seems as though DC & WB can just never win when it comes to the DCEU. According to people on the inside of the company, Reeves and WB have already stopped talks. These series of events continue to be an ongoing nightmare for both companies as the companies still have no concrete movie releases after 2018’s Aquaman.  The only way for the DCEU to really get back on track right now is Wonder Woman.  If this film can’t overcome another Rotten Tomatoes thrashing then will people be willing to go and see Justice League? What are your thoughts on these events? Who do you think would make a great director for The Batman. Tell us in the comments below!

Rare’s Sea of Thieves is starting to make a lot of progress.

Revealed about 2 years ago, The game went mostly silent in 2015 and 2016 due to a heavy focus on developing the game, but since the end of last year has created an insider program as well as a very limited technical alpha community program so that fans can play the game and give feedback on it. The newest game update titled 0.1.1 expands upon the previous version’s treasure hunting update by expanding the number of islands to visit, as well as adding in 2 more treasure outposts for you and your team to cash in your gold.

That’s not all that’s been added though, as this update also includes the very first enemy type encounter, reanimated skeletons. Also added is fall damage from great heights, and more. Check out the video below for all the details, and tell us what part of Sea of Thieves has you most excited in the comments below!

Crash’s original 3 adventures are coming back, and finally have a release date.

This morning, Sony and Vicarious Visions announced that the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be launching this year on June 30th, 2017. The game is available for pre-order now digitally in case you’re a bit impatient. That’s not all Crash news right now though. A couple of new photos have surfaced showing off the Crash 2 portion of the collection. These include a battle with the Komodo Bros. (shown in the banner above), Crash being chased by a giant boulder, and even a segment from a Polar level! Check out the images below and tell us which of the original 3 Crash games are your favorite below!

Patience is the name of the game for Sonic fans.

This year during Sonic’s 2017 SXSW panel, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka will be heading the panel and be giving out new info about the highly anticipated Sonic Mania and Sonic 2017. It’s very likely that we’ll get a solid release date for Mania as well as an official title for Project 2017. All we can do right now is speculate, so tell us what you think will happen in the comments below!

Well this is a bit of unexpected and confusing news.

This morning, Nintendo announced a season pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. “Technically” there are 3 packs releasing if you buy the $20 pass. The first pack launches on the day of release for the game and includes. . . . . . . .3 extra treasure chests in the over world, that according to Nintendo contain “useful items”. One also includes a new costume though, which according to Nintendo is just a Nintendo Switch shirt. The official first DLC Pack coming in Summer of 2017 will include a cave of trials challenge mode as well as. . . . . . A hard mode? Finally, The 2nd DLC Pack launching this Winter 2017 will include A brand new story and dungeon for the game.

Know I know what you’re thinking: “Everything but the 2nd DLC Pack sounds awful. I’ll just buy the 2nd pack instead of wasting my money on the season pass. I don’t have to buy the other stuff. Problem solved!” Well buddy, I’ve got some bad news for you. Turns out that in order to access the 2nd pack, you NEED to buy the season pass! None of the packs are available for purchase separately. This just all around seems like a very confusing move, especially after how well Nintendo has been in the past with games like Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, and even Mario Golf: World Tour. Check out the confusing trailer below and tell us what you think about it in the comments.

Early Nintendo Switch adopters are in for a treat.

Last night, Nintendo announced that they’ll be holding another stress test also known as a testfire for Splatoon 2. Just like the first game, the testfire will span multiple days at different times for only an hour. This is to get player feedback and also to stress test the servers before the game launches this summer. The best part is that this is taking place at the end of March from the  24th through the 26th. Check out the times below! Are you picking up the Switch early? Does this make you want the system more? Tell us in the comments below!

That’s right! Even though we’re still over a year out from the end of Phase 3, Marvel has already begun filming on Avengers: Infinity War!

To celebrate, the studio has released a teaser online featuring Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, and Chris Pratt talking about the start of filming the movie. They talk about how The Avengers will finally team up with The Guardians to face off against Thanos. Kevin Feige also talks about how Thanos won’t be like previous Marvel movie villains, as he will actually pose as a major threat. The video ends with a short clip of the infinity gauntlet being revealed. Check out the video for more below!

For those impatient, just think of it this way. We only have 3 more films until Infinity War. You can wait 3 more films right? No? Me too, but we really have no other choice. Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4th, 2018. Are you excited for the film? What upcoming phase 3 film are you most looking forward to? Tell us in the comments below!

Late last night WB and DC announced that they have finally found their director for Ben Affleck’s The Batman.

Matt Reeves, Director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes has officially been chosen to helm the caped crusaders next adventure. Now that they’ve chosen a pretty solid director, it’s now up to the writing team to deliver a solid, comprehensible script. Affleck has stated multiple times that he will refuse to do the film unless the script gets all the love and attention it can get (Unlike the past 3 DC movies.) Overall, a safe choice, but the company really isn’t in the position to make any risky moves right now.

What are your thoughts on this new director news? Who would you have chosen to direct the film? Tell us in the comments below!

After some not so well received recent films and failing to successfully get a new Clerks and Mallrats off the ground, Kevin Smith is going back to a fan favorite duo.

That’s right, announced today via Facebook, Smith has confirmed that he is working on a brand new Jay and Silent Bob film. Not much is known about the film right now as it’s still in the writing phase, but Smith did post a picture of him working on it at his desktop.  The film is set to be a reboot with a focus on parodying the current Hollywood trend of constant reboots. No solid release date is in sight, but here’s hoping for the best. Are you excited for this new film? What’s your favorite Kevin Smith film? (You can say anything but Yoga Hosers.) Tell us in the comments below!

After over 10 years in development, Castlevania will finally be getting its due.

This evening while talking about their upcoming project, Netflix announced that they are hard at work on a Netflix series for the critically acclaimed Konami series created by Koji Igarashi. No specific date has been announced, but they’re hoping to have it out by 2017. The series will be split into 4 parts and will be written and produced by one of the original Dead Space writers, and pretty major comic book writer and all around idea man, Warren Ellis. Are you excited about this announcement? What game series are you hoping Netflix tackles afterwards? Tell us in the comments below!

We’re just about 5 weeks out from Netflix’s Iron Fist series, and to celebrate, Netflix themselves have finally dropped an official trailer for us to tide us over until the big day arrives.

There’s nothing amazingly stand out here, but the trailer does do a good job conveying the tone of the series and setting the mood. Iron Fist will be the 4th Marvel Netflix show out of the current 6 planned. Check out the trailer for yourself below. Are you excited for Iron Fist? What’s your favorite Marvel Netflix show? Tell us in the comments!

While the ESA has dabbled in the past with public E3 events like E for All and E3 Live just last year, it looks like those days are finally about to come to an end.

Yes, For the first time ever this morning, E3 has announced that the popular gaming Expo will FINALLY be opening up to the public. What does this mean you ask? This means that beginning February 13th 2017 at 9 PM PST, you’ll be able to buy a public E3 ticket for just $150 if you’re part of the first 1,000 (the other 14K will be $250.) Are you excited to finally get the chance to attend E3?

Do you think this is a good idea? Tell us in the comments below!

After over a year of teasing, Adult Swim has finally released the official trailer for Samurai Jack Season 5 to the world!

We’ve also found out a bit more about the story. An excerpt from the trailer description reads:

“It’s been 50 years since we saw Samurai Jack and time has not been kind to him. Aku has destroyed every time portal and Jack has stopped aging, a side effect of time travel. It seems he is cursed to just roam the land for all eternity.”

The end of the trailer confirms the release date of March 11th at 8:00 PM PST, just like they announced about a week ago. Check out the trailer below! Are you excited for Jack’s comeback? Tell us in the comments below!

A couple of days ago, Disney released the last trailer for their live action Beauty and the Beast film starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.

While a bit hesitant about the film from the first 2 trailers, this last trailer definitely does a better job at showing better scenes with a bit more emotion from the actors. Also in the trailer is a re done version of the Beauty and the Beast song preformed by John Legend, and everyone’s favorite Final Fantasy character, Ariana Grande.

Check out trailer below. Are you excited for the film? Do you like most of these recent live action adaptions that Disney’s been making recently? Tell us in the comments below!

Earlier this month when we found out that Nintendo would be charging for online services, a lot of people including me were very skeptical about it, and remain so. While there is excitement for the cost, I can’t shake off that feeling that the online components almost feel like an after thought. Only one Virtual Console game a month, and you can’t even keep it after the first? Online and voice chat through a phone app? Doesn’t sound all that good, but there does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel as it seems that Nintendo has offered us a pay window into what we can expect with their online subscription come Fall 2017.

This pricing is actually very reasonable for what the company is offering, and while not perfect, I do have a couple of ideas that could make it a must have. For one, Nintendo could make the phone app completely optional. I understand Nintendo’s thinking about convenience on the go, but it’s honestly a bit counter intuitive seeing as how you need to pull out a well charged smart phone or tablet. Might as well just connect to your friends on Skype or Discord instead. Making the console capable of voice chat and matchmaking without the use of a smart device would be very ideal, but then again Nintendo has been so mute on it, this could very well be the case.

Second thing that could be improved is the monthly free VC trials. the obvious solution is to make them free. Nintendo isn’t going to start bleeding out and going bankrupt if they give us one free VC game a month. Nintendo has thousands upon thousands of games at disposal just sitting in the dark. Doubtful that Nintendo would go this way, I’ve also come up with a second solution.

I propose that Nintendo mix things up and give us games that we aren’t expecting. How awesome would it be to get something like Uniracers or Wild Guns with the added function of online and local multiplayer. After the initial month of excitement, the game would of course lock you out of playing it, but instead of having to pay full price, you should be able to get a massive discount on the title. Now your only paying $3 for what you’d usually be paying $8-$10 for. What do you think though? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
