As we finally start to approach summer, now is the perfect time to sit back, relax, and catch up on your backlog of video games, and what better way to do that then this coming months Games With Gold. In June, Xbox One users will be in or a treat as they’ll be able to experience some nifty titles. These include the popular indie game SpeedRunners, making its console debut as well as the original Watch Dogs. Xbox One users will even get a bonus perk this month in the form of a dlc multiplayer pack for Phantom Dust that will add brand new abilities to use. Xbox 360 users shouldn’t feel left out though as they’ll be also getting some great titles like Assassins Creed 3 and Dragon Age Origins. Check out the trailer below to know when to expect these titles, and tell us in the comments what you’re the most excited for.

After months of murmur, rumors, and re-tooling, it looks like the fabled Mario and Raving Rabbids crossover RPG is real.

That’s right, the heavily rumored strategy RPG crossover is real, and a bit confusing still. Art and info on the game leaked this morning from what looks like what was supposed to be an internal only presentation for investors. The game features only 8 playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and Rabbid variations of those characters (a step down from the original rumored cast of Mario side characters). Another notable feature is that the weapons mostly consist of guns. Yeah, their themed too match the Mario universe, but it’s still weird talking about how a new Mario game has guns in it.

The title is currently being developed not by Nintendo, but Ubisoft Paris and Milan, and will contain a 20 hour single player mode, as well as 2 player local co-op. The game is set to be released in August or September, and will be playable on the E3 show floor. Are your expectations high or low, and will you even try it out? Tell us in the comments below!

Zack Snyder might not be the most respected man in Hollywood right now (quite the opposite), but to be fair, the guy has the weight of an entire cinematic universe on his shoulders every day.

About an hour ago, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Snyder is suddenly stepping down from his role as director for the upcoming Justice League film alongside his wife Deborah Snyder who produces the DCEU films. The reason for stepping away is due to the sudden death of their daughter Autumn who committed suicide. While we don’t necessarily like his films, this must be incredibly hard on him and his family, so we here at Geekscape.net would like to wish Mr. Snyder the best and hope his family can make a recovery after such a tragic event.

In the meantime, Joss Whedon will take charge of Justice League, shooting extra scenes and finishing up the final edit of the film so that it can make its November 17th deadline. Once again, we wish Mr. Snyder and his family the best and hope they can overcome this.

Sony’s Uncharted movie has endured development hell, as is typical of a usual movie put out by the company today. Mostly because no one there knows what the hell they’re doing, nor do they care about understanding why a series is so beloved and popular. Production started in 2009 and has yet to solidly secure and keep writers and directors. It’s frankly amazing how they haven’t given up after 8 years of no progress. Now, it looks like development is finally moving forward, whether we want it to or not. Sony has announced that Spider-Man Homecoming‘s Tom Holland will be playing Nathan Drake in the newly rewritten Uncharted prequel.

A bit confusing, seeing as how a few months ago, the studio was teasing an R rated film based off the first game. Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen director Shawn Levy will direct the film, which will be about a young Nathan Drake meeting Victor Sullivan (think of the Uncharted 3 flashback, but extended to a 2 hour film). Sony seems to want the film out as fast as possible, yet they still have yet to hire a new writer. This can only end well, right? (Probably not). What do you think? Tell us in the comments below!

Let’s end this week with some juicy movie news.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the scoop that Tom Hardy has signed on to play Venom himself in the upcoming Venom solo movie, and that Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer will direct. Don’t get too excited, though, as there are some asterisks next to this announcement. First thing to realize right off the bat is that this is a separate Spider-Man universe film not at all related to Spider-Man Homecoming or the MCU. Once again, Sony is trying to restart their half of the failed Spider-Man universe. Another problem is that while it’s exciting to see the director of Zombieland take the reigns of this project, he has also done some not-as-good films such as Gangster Squad and 30 Minutes or Less. Will Venom overcome the odds and be a decent film? Only time will tell. Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Remember The Dark Crystal? That really trippy and creepy Jim Henson film that probably scared the daylights out of you as a kid?

Today, Netflix announced that they are currently working on a prequel series to the cult classic film, and will release it sometime soon. The best news about this has to be that the series will be staying true to its roots by keeping the characters as puppets and animatronics, instead of going the CGI heavy route like most would do. What do you think? Have you ever seen The Dark Crystal? Are you planning on watching this prequel? Tell us in the comments below!

Just last week Nintendo announced their E3 plans for 2017, and so we assumed there wouldn’t be a Nintendo Direct until a month or two afterwards.

That’s not the case as Nintendo dropped a surprise announcement this morning saying that there will be a full presentation dedicated to the game ARMS tomorrow May 17th at 3PM PST. Odds are they’ll probably show off the main modes of the game, as well as the rest of the characters. There’ll also be a special Splatoon 2 treat at the end of the direct. Are you excited for ARMS? Tell us in the comments below!

About a month ago in the most recent Nintendo Direct, the highly anticipated Sonic Forces was teased as having a 3rd playable character.

This set off many theories as to who else you’d be able to play as. Guesses ranged everywhere from Fang the Sniper to Bubsy the Bobcat (yes, really, people guessed that.) Today, Sega has finally peeled back the curtain to reveal this character, and it couldn’t be more amazing if they tried. The third playable character joining the roster for the game is YOUR original character! That’s right! I hope you kept that picture of your Sonic OC from when you were in the 3rd grade because it’s now going to come in handy.

As of right now, there are 7 different animals to choose from, each having their own ability. Here’s how they’re broken down:

  • Hedgehog — Collects rings when getting damaged
  • Wolf — Automatically draws in rings when near them
  • Rabbit — Has longer invincible time after receiving damage
  • Bird — Flies high with double jump abilities
  • Bear — Blows away enemies with a homing attack
  • Cat — Keeps one ring after being hit
  • Dog — Restarts with five rings after the player dies

Aside from a custom ability for each type of animal, there’ll also be custom items that only the created character can use. One example used in the trailer is some sort of grappling hook and a flamethrower (hey, it’s still pretty cool. Check out the trailer below and get excited!

Ever since the infamous reveal of Phantom Dust back at Microsoft’s 2014 press conference, the series has stayed in this perpetual limbo.

While we continue to wait for new info on a new game for the series however, Microsoft has decided to apologize fans of the series with a special treat. This morning head of Xbox marketing Aaron Greenberg revealed that an HD update of Phantom Dust will be heading to Xbox One and Windows 10 as soon as tomorrow! The best part? The game will be FREE and support Xbox Play Anywhere! This is a great way to bring new fans into the fold and show them exactly why the original is so beloved by many people. It also helps re build enthusiasm for a potential sequel or reboot on the horizon. What do you think? Are you going to download Phantom Dust HD tomorrow? Tell us in the comments below!

UPDATE: The KickStarter is live!

With the recent PSN release of PaRappa the Rapper HD on PS4, everyone is dying for a brand new music/rhythm game in the style of PaRappa and Um Jamer Lammy (it’d also be nice for PaRappa to also get a new game.) Enter Project Rap Rabbit. A brand new animal rhythm game from developers of NaNa On-Sha & iNiS. Nothing else has been said about the game, but hopefully we see more of it soon at E3. Check out the animated teaser below and get ready to rap again!

It’s been 5 years since Nintendo stopped doing live E3 press conferences (never forget Nintendo Land fireworks), and ever since then, People still wish for Nintendo to return to that format every year (even though the Nintendo Digital Events are fine and better).

Yesterday morning, Nintendo released their E3 2017 plans as well as tickets to board the Nintendo hype train. The Nintendo E3 2017 Spotlight will air at 9AM PST and will feature Only Nintendo Switch games heading towards the system this year. Afterwards, the stream will transition into Nintendo Treehouse Live where the Treehouse crew will non stop showcase the newly announced Nintendo switch games as well as 3DS games. There will also be live Splatoon 2 and ARMS Tournaments from the 13th to the 14th.  Find out more below Are you excited for E3? Tell us in the comments below!

It’s been a long time coming after the initial teaser, but we have finally been graced with a new trailer for Blade Runner 2049.

While the teaser didn’t give us much aside from Ryan Gosling meeting up with Harrison Ford, There is much more to dissect in this new trailer. First thing noticeable is that this movie looks absolutely beautiful. If you thought Ghost in the Shell was a beautiful film, it’s clear that just by looking at some of the sets that it was very inspired by the original Blade Runner. Second thing is that the film is possibly teasing the fact that Harrison Fords Deckard might in fact be a replicant  after seeing Goslings character wanting to ask him “some questions”.

Even if we previously thought it wouldn’t be possible, this trailer throws a curve ball or two. There’s much more to dissect including Jared Leto’s character and a possible war between humans and replicants. Check out the trailer below for all the Ridley Scott/Denis Villeneuve goodness. Have you seen the original Blade Runner? Tell us in the comments below!

About a month ago, I reviewed Blaster Master Zero for the Nintendo Switch. (review here)

It was a fun game that successfully brought the BM series back into the public eye and also made it accessible to both old fans and newcomers alike. Developer Inti Creates isn’t just content with letting it sit on the sidelines though, as they dropped a big surprise today that the game has gotten a free update! The first thing that’s been added is Destroyer Mode. This acts essentially as a hard mode, making enemies harder to damage and having to use your weapons more effectively.

The second update is much more exciting as it introduces EX Character Mode which let’s you play as other Inti Creates characters such as Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Ekoro from Azure Striker Gunvolt and Gal Gun. Both characterrs will start out as a free add for a special promotional period, but afterwards become paid DLC, but for only $1.99. Check out the trailer below for more info. Have you picked up Blaster Master Zero yet?

5 years ago THQ released Darksiders 2, and shortly after closed their doors for good. It was a sad time not only for THQ, but for fans of the Darksiders series. Now THQ has risen from the ashes, and along with that, so has Darksiders. This morning, IGN exclusively revealed that the newly formed Gunfire Games which is mostly made up of Vigil Games employees, will be releasing Darksiders 3 with the help of the also newly formed THQ Nordic. The story centers on Fury and her quest to kill the seven deadly sins. The game is set for a 2018 release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Check out the trailer below, and get ready to rise again!

Earlier today Nintendo finally released new info on what we can expect to see from the first batch of DLC heading to Breath of the Wild.

The first new bit of info is the new challenge arena now called Trial of the Sword. It works the same as the cave of shadows from Twilight Princess HD.  Clear all 45 rooms, and the Master Sword will unlock its hidden potential. Also new is hard mode and hero’s path. Hard mode upgrades enemies by making them spot link more easily and giving them regenerating health if you’re taking too long in battle.  It will also include new chests that you can only get by shooting them out of the sky. Hero’s path is a new map feature that allows the player to look at where Link has traveled on the map in the past 200 hours, letting them know where they’ve been and what places they should explore.

Also new is the travel medallion which link can place anywhere to use as a custom fast travel location. Nintendo has also announced that new costumes and armor based off of Tingle, Midna, Majoras Mask, and more will be added to the game as well. While Nintendo provided no info on the DLC’s release or any hint at the 2nd pack, they did give fans a nice surprise.

Remember how everyone wanted to play Breath of the Wild with dual audio, but Nintendo didn’t want to budge on it, well now you can. As of RIGHT NOW you can download a patch for the game that allows you to play in about 6 different languages, including japanese. So if you’re a monster and hate british Zelda, now you can rid here from this cruel earth. (Editor Note: You are not an actual monster if you dislike british Zelda.) Are you excited for this DLC now? Do you think it’s worth the $20 asking price? Tell us in the comments below!

UPDATE: Right after writing this original article, news came out that Seth Rogen and Bille Eichner will be voicing Timon and Pumba for the film. It seems as though they are still getting mostly new people for these roles. Fingers crossed for Irons still.

Jon Favreau’s live action adaption of The Lion King finally has a release date!

While not necessarily highly anticipated, people seem interested in seeing how the Iron Man series director can handle one of Disney’s biggest animated juggernauts after succeeding pretty well in the live action fairy tail space with last years The Jungle Book.  The film is set to STAMPEDE (sorry too soon?) into theaters on July 19th 2019. Not much is known about the film still, but we do know that Donald Glover will be voicing Adult Simba, as well as the legendary James Earl Jones reprising his role as the king of the pride lands himself, Mufasa. No word on if Jeremy Irons will return as Scar, but we can dream at how great that’d be until Disney cruelly rips it away from us. Are you excited for this remake? Tell us in the comments and check out Favreau’s tease below!

After a surprise reveal last year at PSX 2016, Capcom has remained pretty hush hush on Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite.

Today, we finally got a bit more info on what will be going on in the game. Turns out the story mode is completely ridiculous but amazing. All you need to know is that Ultron and Sigma team up and fuse together to create Ultron Sigma, and now both Capcom and Marvel heroes must join together to take him down. The trailer introduces a couple of new roster characters such as Strider, Hulk, Thor, Chun Li, Chris Redfield, and more! The trailer even ends with a release date of September 19th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Of course you can’t just have a regular trailer. With Capcom being Capcom, old habits die hard as the final shot of the trailer advertises and incentives buying the Deluxe Edition of the game which includes 6 premium costumes and DLC characters including Sigma as a playable character. The fact that they probably already have those 6 characters made  and are purposely keeping them hostage as DLC overall ends up putting a slightly sour taste in my mouth as I’m sure that’s going to be how they compromise not having Wolverine in the initial roster. Nonetheless, are you excited for this game? What character do you want to see included? Tell us in the comments below!

Earlier today Viz announced that they’ll be partnering with Hasbro to release an art book for the upcoming MLP Movie scheduled to release October 6th. Not much has been said about the book, but it will be pretty lengthy and also include full color art. The art is due for release sometime in August, 2 whole months before the film comes out, so be wary of spoilers. Are you excited about this announcement? What animated movie do you want to see get an art book? Tell us in the comments below!

Today Activision has announced that the highly rumored Call of Duty WWII is real and will be having a worldwide reveal at 10AM PST on April 26th, 2017.

The COD series has been in a creative and financial slump for the past couple of years. Over exposure of the brand to an almost toxic level for some people and too much of a heavy emphasis on futuristic technology seems to have driven a good amount of people away from the series. It’s obvious this game is a knee jerk reaction to the success of last years Battlefield 1 by EA, but will fans done with the series even want to make the trouble of returning? I guess we’ll find out what happens next week. In the meantime, tell us what you think about the announcement in the comments below!

As we head into May, Games with gold shows no signs of slowing down. Coming up, Xbox One and 360 users will be able to enjoy a nice sampling of different games. These include Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, and Even Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Lego Star Wars.  Check out the video below to find out when you’ll be able to download these. Which game are you most interested in trying? Tell us in the comments below!

The highly anticipated Yooka-Laylee finally released a week ago, and reactions have been. . . . . . mixed. Many argue the game doesn’t live up the hype (little games do due to most of them being overly anticipated). This has people split arguing for or against the game. I went in with what was probably a mindset most people didn’t think of, and after a couple of days of playing, I’ve come to a conclusion. Before reaching that conclusion however, I thought I’d share my expectations that I set, so that when or if you play the game, you can get a good understanding of the expectations you should have before playing this. Let’s get to it then!

One of the first things to take into account when setting expectations for Yooka-Laylee is to take a look at the budget of the game. If you’re going into the game expecting it to be as big and sprawling as Banjo-Kazooie or Tooie, then you might want to re-adjust those expectations because the game is relatively small. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing since the game is still plenty of fun with some pretty big worlds and clever secrets.

Yooka’s budget is relatively small. Even with the Kickstarter funds and support from Publisher Team 17 to help out with stuff like a physical release and advertising, it still doesn’t compare to Banjo. Banjo’s budget is immeasurably higher having to take inflation, the number of times the game changed, and Nintendo’s funding of the game into account. There’s also the fact that Yooka was made in Unity, which is a fairly simple 3D engine, so it’s not going to have the exact look or feel as its predecessor. As a result, it’d be expected that the game wouldn’t have nearly as many worlds and even as many collectibles as Banjo would.

The next expectation to set might cause a bit of a stir at first, but just follow me on this, This is not Banjo Threeie.  Yes, Yooka-Laylee was pitched on the premise of being a Banjo Successor, but not the fabled Banjo Threeie that people love to fantasize about. I can guarantee you that nothing that is present in Yooka was planned at all for another Banjo game. Why am I so sure? Well, whether or not people want to accept it, Banjo Threeie already exists. It’s called Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, and the history of the title is pretty clear.  Rare even made a nice little video a year or 2 ago finally shedding some light on the title. Playtonic spent 2 years developing this title creating a brand new world, characters, and gameplay and I’m sure the last thing they want people to think is that all of that could easily be switched out for a more known I.P.

The last expectation I want to set is that this isn’t the exact same team as the original Banjo crew. Don’t take this as a negative, the people associated with Playtonic have done some fantastic work and have anywhere from 1 to 3 decades worth of making games for the company, but not all of them come from Banjo or Conker. One of the biggest missing pieces for Playtonic is Gregg Mayles, The creator and main level designer for the Banjo series. Yes you have your Chris Sutherlands and Steve Mayles who are very well known for being on the Banjo team, but then you also have very talented people like Justin Cook and Dean Wilson.

These guys are very talented artists who have worked on some of the most interesting Rare titles like Kameo: Elements of Power and Viva Pinata, but often get overlooked due to the internet’s over reaction of the Microsoft buyout and labeling it as “The bad era.” So while this isn’t 100% person by person the original team that crafted Banjo, that’s again not to be taken as a bad thing since the people still there are extremely talented, some even coming from other companies like Rocksteady (Batman Arkham Series) and Supermassive Games (Until Dawn and the LittleBig Planet Series). Below is a beautiful piece of Yooka artwork by Dean Wilson who designed one of the 5 worlds in the game, Glitterglaze Glacier.

At the end of the day, I’m writing this not to discourage or encourage you to play or not play Yooka-Laylee, but what kind of expectations you should have set going into the game. You can read as many good or bad reviews of the game as you like, but knowing what mindset you have entering the game can make a huge difference. I hope this article has been helpful for you,and most of all, like the games you’re going to like.

After months and months of painful and agonizing waiting, we’ve finally gotten the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi! The teaser mostly echoes The Force Awakens teaser where you see a brief scene of something happening before the camera flashes to something else. Even though they do go pretty quickly, there are some really cool shots such as Rey running towards someone head on with her Lightsaber and some more space battles (which Episode 7 was sorely lacking). What do you think? Tell us your thoughts on the trailer below!

With just 2 months until E3, Nintendo has announced that they’ll be holding a Nintendo Direct this week on Wednesday, April 12th. The direct will air at 3PM PST and focus mainly on Splatoon 2 and ARMS with a couple of surprises thrown throughout the presentation. Hopefully we get some details on their E3 plans as well during this direct as they’ve remained pretty quiet on that front. Which game are you more excited for? Tell us in the comments below!

It seems like within the past couple of years that sports games have become more popular.

While there are still fun sports games like the NBA 2K series and FIFA, it all but seems like the more light hearted days of arcade sports games like NBA Jam and NFL Blitz. There was a brief resurgence of these games in the early 2010’s, but they were more toned down from their original versions (except NBA Jam for Wii. That was pretty faithful.) Enter NBA Playgrounds. What seems a pseudo spiritual successor to the jam series. There’s not much to the trailer, but the game will be launching in May for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC for $20. Check out the trailer below and tell us in the comments what your favorite arcade style sports game is!

After many fake-outs, false rumors, and broken dreams, it’s time to sound the alarms because Invader Zim is officially coming back in the form of a TV Movie!

Even up to this morning, original creator Jhonen Vasquez denied the existence of the series revival, but in retrospect, it was probably just him playfully harassing his fans while trying out his best Donald Trump impersonation. There’s no date for the movie (fingers crossed for this year.), but Nick did announce that the original voice cast will indeed be returning to voice their respected roles. Take a look at this brief audio teaser and get excited!

This morning Variety broke the big news that DC has secured and gotten Joss Whedon, yes, THAT Joss Whedon, to direct the standalone Batgirl movie. While people endlessly celebrate and get excited, there are still some things that DC should be nervous about. Whedon is a phenomenal director, but there are problems with him that could hurt DC if they aren’t careful. The first thing to consider is that if Whedon isn’t happy with what’s going on, he won’t be shy talking about it. Everyone by now knows about his infamous fallout with Marvel and the meltdown he had when he was forced to put in Thor’s vision scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron if he wanted to keep Hawkeye’s family story line. That fallout was Josh Trank levels of bad, and it shows since he hasn’t really done anything notable since.

Also building off of him not staying quiet about things is that since his recent return to social media, Whedon has gotten very political. I get that you care very much about your country and what happens in it, but talking about it at almost a nauseating extent is getting you up there on Amy Schumer levels of political talk, and you DON’T want to be anywhere near there.

Nonetheless, this is a great chance for DC to really pick themselves up from their rut, and this is a great risk for them to take. Let’s just hope it doesn’t blow up in their face. What are you thoughts on the announcement? Tell us in the comments below!

Another month brings another round of Xbox’s Games with Gold. Last Month’s selection of games were very much overshadowed by PS  Plus and the looming release of the Nintendo Switch, but now they seem to have some pretty concrete releases. The two big stand outs are Assassins Creed: Revelations for Xbox 360 and One users, and one of the Xbox Ones first launch titles, RYSE: Son of Rome.  Check out the other games and their releases below and get excited. Which one are you planning on trying first?

After a small leak last week where people debated the authenticity of it, Bungie has officially come out and announced that Destiny 2 is officially real and happening. No concrete release date or platforms, but a recent retailer leak from Spain seems to reveal a date of September 8th. Nothing else has been announced, but hopefully the game can launch better than the original, as the original Destiny had a pretty rough launch due to its lack of content. Check out the retailer leak below and tell us if you’re excited for Destiny 2!

Netflix has finally released a teaser for their adaption of Death Note, and the response has been a bit mixed so far.

The teaser is pretty basic, as it just shows the Death Note showing up, and Light reading the rules of the book. The trailer ends with a tease of Willem Dafoe’s Ryuk. Personally, it’s a bit silly with people already going into a frenzy and throwing the whitewashing card into the mix. Give it a full length trailer to make a more accurate judgement. Check out the teaser below and tell us if you’re excited for the film in the comments below.

Captain Underpants used to and still is one of my favorite book series when I was younger.

It always seemed that in spite of some of the gross out humor, the books had likable characters, clever jokes, and even some good lessons at the end of them. Now DreamWorks has finally released a trailer for the film, and it’s looking pretty faithful and solid so far. The film seems to be borrowing from multiple books, most likely combining the first 4 books into one film. So far, the cast is a bit odd with Ed Helms as Mr. Krupp, Kevin Hart as George, and Thomas Middleditch as Harold. Check out the trailer yourself! Are you excited for this film? Tell us in the comments below.
