Briefly: It’s been a number of years since I was truly excited for a Call of Duty game.

The games are always fun and flashy, but at this point of my life (with my super limited amount of game time), I’ll almost always choose a deeper, single player experience over nearly anything with multiplayer in it.

Last year, I dabbled with Modern Warfare Remastered and had a blast playing through Infinite Warfare’s campaign, but they were experiences that I just sort of fell into, rather than truly being excited for them.

I played (and loved) the unique campaigns of Battlefield 1, and at that point imagined just how much of a thrill ride it would be to play through Medal of Honor: Frontline‘s D-Day campaign, with the power of today’s consoles.

This November Call of Duty will take us back to its roots with the fittingly titled WWII. As much as I love a good Sci-Fi shooter (I’m downloading the Prey demo a little early right now using an Australian account), the next Call of Duty is the most excited I’ve been about the series (and large the genre) in years.

Here’s the synopsis:

Featuring a global cast of characters across Europe, players will follow the gripping story of Ronald “Red” Daniels, a young United States Army private, as he and his squad, the legendary US 1st Infantry Division, trek through the harrowing European theater of war. Joining Allied forces from the U.K. and the French Resistance, across the beaches of Normandy, to the liberation of Paris and ultimately into Germany, the squad must fight alongside a global and diverse cast of characters to achieve victory. The story campaign delivers the gritty authenticity and cinematic intensity of WWII combat, honoring the unforgettable heroism of the Fighting First.

We can’t wait to get our boots on the ground and give WWII a shot at this year’s E3. For now, take a look at the in-game reveal trailer (over and over and over again), and let us know what you think!

Today Activision has announced that the highly rumored Call of Duty WWII is real and will be having a worldwide reveal at 10AM PST on April 26th, 2017.

The COD series has been in a creative and financial slump for the past couple of years. Over exposure of the brand to an almost toxic level for some people and too much of a heavy emphasis on futuristic technology seems to have driven a good amount of people away from the series. It’s obvious this game is a knee jerk reaction to the success of last years Battlefield 1 by EA, but will fans done with the series even want to make the trouble of returning? I guess we’ll find out what happens next week. In the meantime, tell us what you think about the announcement in the comments below!

After a couple of days of speculation, the rumors are true! Activision just released the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Described as a return to the franchises roots, Infinite Warfare has to do with us fighting off against a Settlement Defense Front. Also just as the rumors predicted, pre ordering the legacy edition of the game will get you the remastered version of Modern Warfare.  Check out the trailer below if you’re interested in the game. Briefly: The game still hasn’t been officially revealed, but a leaked advertisement from a Canadian retailer (you can tell because the game is so expensive) has revealed further details about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remastered.

I’m actually really excited for this title. Call of Duty 4 was the only Call of Duty game that I really, really got into. Nearly every night for months after release, I would jump onto PSN and clan up with a myriad of my real world pals. I’ve never experienced better teamwork in an online title before, and because of this we freaking cleaned house. I can still recall the screaming on the microphone as my dead team members watched me hit a 32 kill streak in a match. Ah, the memories.

In any case, Modern Warfare Remastered will include the Modern Warfare campaign along with 10 multiplayer maps. The included maps haven’t been detailed at this point, but I’m sure we’ll know more as soon as the official reveal comes along (and I’m sure we’ll get more maps via DLC).

Rachel Kimsey is a regular person, just like us. Except, that she’s standing toe to toe with giants in one of the biggest throwdowns ever in the entertainment industry. 2015 was a huge year for the business of entertainment. Records were pushed past their breaking points—only to be shattered again within months.

First to break a global record was Jurassic World with the title of biggest opening weekend ever for a film, only to be fully supplanted in December by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Thing is, while these movies were setting all-time records for film, neither of them were able to pass what was being called “the biggest [global] entertainment release of 2015,” Call of Duty: Black Ops III—who held that title, taking in over $550 million in just 72 hours, until being dethroned by the juggernaut release of Fallout 4, which pulled in over $750 million in a mere 24 hours. It’s a bare-knuckle drag-out showdown for the business suits in entertainment these days.

All that, within months of each previous release this year; an exciting time indeed. In this clash of entertainment titans, there’s only one person standing in the center of it all—shoulder to shoulder with the Chris Pratts, Bryce Dallas Howards, Jeff Goldblums, Ron Perlmans, Lynda Carters, Daisy Ridleys and Harrison Fords—whose performance makes you question the nature of reality to such a degree that she practically shares the same name with her character.

Of course I’m talking about Rachel Kimsey’s Rachel Kane in Call of Duty: Black Ops III. “She was always named Rachel Kane from the beginning,” Kimsey humbly admits. (Although, after a little poking around, I heard rumors that some time may have been taken before settling on the name—and when Kane was decided on, it may have originally been spelled differently, with a C—just sayin’.) Like Hollywood releases, maybe even more so, the success of a video game such as this is the result of a large team of contributors. However, there’s no denying that Rachel Kimsey’s portrayal of CIA Agent Rachel Kane is one of the more vital elements to the success of the immersive experience this game provides.

Black Ops III, builds off of elements of Black Ops II but also stands on its own. Rachel Kane makes her first appearance [in Black Ops III] and I’m all over it.” Although Kimsey didn’t appear in that previous one either, this isn’t the first time she’s answered the. . . call of duty. “Well, this is the first time you’re seeing me in Call of Duty. I worked on Call of Duty: Ghosts with Infinity Ward; I worked on the DLCs doing a lot of really fun voice work.” Which wasn’t her first digital rodeo either. “I’m pretty sure my face and body scans from the Spider-Man 2 film actually ended up getting used in the Spider-Man 3 video game, for which I also provided voice work but it was for another character, Betty Brant—I think my face and body were paired with somebody else’s voice. So this is the first time my face and my voice have been matched together in a game—and, of course, being a principal member of the campaign it’s. . . I mean, it’s just the most exciting thing I’ve ever done. It’s so much fun.”

RachelKimsey_MotionCapture01_480x640Her entire performance is motion captured and paired with 3D model scans of her body, her voiceover is delivered through her tracked and recorded facial expressions so that every aspect of the CIA agent in the game is Kimsey. She performs Rachel Kane perfectly in the she-is-totally-on-our-side-right? storyline, providing a deeper level of realism that has players questioning their allegiances. “I have a lot of fancy contracts saying that I can neither confirm nor deny any of these plot conjectures. I can say, listen to all my advice in the game because I give really good advice. I’m on your side, people.” Really?—so it’s a bad idea to cross Agent Kane? “It’s just a foolish choice—you should be looking out for yourself better than that.” So the CIA helps those who help themselves? “It’s simple—you can win or you can ignore my advice.” She smirks. Dang it!

Rachel Kimsey’s just like us, except that she’s cooler. As the day approached for our scheduled interview I had some plans on where we might sit quietly and talk—maybe something covered in ivy with tea and VIP areas. Hollywood types are fancy, right? She had some plans of her own, requesting that we meet up in a quirky comic book shop in Studio City. She’s beaten me there so that when I walk in the door—knocking the bell above it—she pops up from behind a rack and peers at me over her already impressive armful of comics. “I’m working on a couple of projects that I cannot wait until my non-disclosure agreement gives me permission to disclose,” she gasps desperately through grinding teeth, “because they’re really really exciting.” The tortured declaration has left her nearly breathless but she soldiers on, “I really do think they’ll be just as exciting for the audience as they are for me.” She presses her lips together in an effort to stop before she says something she shouldn’t—and then blurts out, “So much fun!” The eavesdropping comic book guy behind the counter looks disappointed—he’s already recognised her from her time playing “Michelle,” a disguise of Candice Wilmer, on Heroes and wants the scoop on what’s next for Kimsey.

To contrast or provide better perspective for the unspeakable excitement just around the corner she offers a little history in her own creative development. “There was a time I used to feel really jealous of other kinds of artists. I know it’s really hard to make a living as a dancer but at least you can always dance. Maybe no one’s ever going to buy your paintings but if you’re a painter, you can always paint. Maybe nobody buys your book but you can always write. But I’m an actor and you can’t act in a vacuum—you can’t act by yourself—you have to have an audience to be an actor because acting is all about connection. I used that thinking as an excuse to let myself off the hook for not showing up for myself—not being in my own creativity—because, the truth is, there’s a whole lot more than saying words in front of an audience that makes you an actor. I can be in class, I can be reading screenplays, I can be writing down ideas, I can be producing a web series or short film—even make my own movies nobody ever sees and edit them with free software that came on my phone; with a camera and lens that’s better than the cameras that I bought back in the day because I was going to make things. I realized it was just an excuse, it was an excuse to let me off the hook because I was sad I wasn’t making anything and I didn’t have the guts to step up and fix it. Redefining it makes everything feel different—you gotta be a maker. You can be a maker no matter what income is paying your bills; your income doesn’t have to define you. You can start small; just start. Define yourself, make stuff, make things—be a maker. It’s awesome. You don’t have to be ‘cooler’ than you are, just do what you do.”

Anywhere in Studio City, as the name implies, is a stone’s throw from many of the major studios Hollywood is famous for. The actress’ natural habitat for “doing what she does.” In fact, one memorable time I had the opportunity to talk with her about her work, she was just such a rock toss away from where we now stood. Across the cement shores of the “Los Angeles River”—(yes, that’s the actual name of the large cement drainage ditch that’s usually no more than a dainty creek) on the other side of the very same street, in a Universal backlot—she was being ripped out of a train by Doctor Octopus in the film Spider-Man 2.

You see, Rachel Kimsey is just like us, except that she’s tougher. With her comic book collection now properly augmented it’s finally time for us to move on to a quiet coffee shop where we can sit and. . . “There’s a Mexican place down the street I’ve been meaning to try. I hear they have fires in the patio area and a salsa that’ll Ark-of-the-Covenant your face off,” she offers. I’m actually surprised she doesn’t punctuate the pitch by pulling out Dr. Jones’ bullwhip and giving it a good crack. The exciting stories continue even as we navigate down Ventura Boulevard.

Building an unshakable performance foundation with years of studying Shakespeare, she went on to train in stage combat, then elaborate stunt choreography and eventually martial arts. Her ever developing skills led to an extended stint working in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Stunt Show at LeoFoo Village in Taiwan where she would brawl cowboys, get shot “dead” and tumble off of buildings for eight shows a day, six days a week, delighting excited audiences. After all that, facing off against ghosts, ghouls and “Old Man Jenkins!” as Daphne in the Broadway touring company’s production of Scooby Doo Live! in Stagefright across the US (with dates in Las Vegas and, what is now, the Dolby Theatre in LA) was a walk in the park. Naturally, she was the easy choice for casting directors in search of a special someone to face off against Doc Ock.

Her dedication to physical performance paid off a few years later when—after a motorcycle accident required a series of surgeries over several years to rebuild the bone in her leg—she would rely on that strength to fuel her recovery. Again, not content to merely complete her own physical therapy, she became fascinated with body mechanics and went on to study even further; picking up certifications along the way and even offering specialized training to those who were interested in what she was learning. As she began to refocus on acting again, she would find that her time spent studying therapies and teaching physical training would pay off once more—in an unexpected way.

“When I was working on [Call of Duty:] Ghosts, I would get into the booth and the director would say, ‘Okay, so here’s the situation; you’re the only woman on the field, the field’s full of men. There’s lots of ambient noise, it’s really loud and distracting—things are banging and exploding, noise all over the place—and you need to get the attention of this small group of men about twenty to thirty feet away from you. Go!’ Oh!—it’s just like teaching Crossfit every day! Music’s too loud, everyone’s doing this really intense thing, I have to make sure they can hear me really clearly through the noise about thirty feet away. . . Got it! So it turns out, years of teaching taught me the skills to support my voice and make a sound that could cut through noise—‘cause just getting louder didn’t work without shredding your throat. Turns out that’s exactly the sound you need to be a soldier on the battlefield in a video game.”

Now, what about the new character in the new game? “Who is Rachel Kane? First, for there to be a game, somebody has to give you the operation. Who gives those operations?—the CIA. Well, I’m CIA Agent Rachel Kane, so come along with me—like I said, I’ve got some real good advice on how to survive.” There must be more to her than that, right? “The part was really well written and there was a lot of thought and a lot of care that went into the story. I was told early on that, ‘You’re not a damsel in distress; you’re going to hold your own on the battlefield and it’s going to be really clear that you belong there and have every right to be there right from the beginning.’ So before I’d seen any pages or knew what we would be up to, I started thinking about my character like, ‘I am capable, strong, prepared and active on behalf of myself and my team members. I can rise to any occasion.’ Keeping that in mind helped me shape the core and motivation for the character.”

Arriving at the Mexican restaurant, the host offers us a table inside since it’s chilly out but she squints at him to better judge the situation. “Do you have anything outside?—by the fire?” He glances my way and I joke that we’re not afraid to heat things up. “You know what else heats things up?” she adds. “Face melting salsa. Let’s do this!”

Rachel Kimsey is just like us, except that she’s way better looking. Our exuberantly awkward joky-finger-gun waiter’s attempts to “casually” uncover her relationship status are a natural and common testament to her allure. Comparing the end result Agent Kane character—built from precise scans, image captures and photo reference texture-mapping that the designers made of her—next to Rachel Kimsey in the flesh, you’ll notice that they decided to subtly tone down her natural beauty. Were they trying to keep players, like our waiter, from getting distracted? Did they want her looking a bit more rough and tumble; worn around the edges? Or is it simply that it’s not yet possible to technologically capture all of her appeal in a digital bottle?

Maybe it’s something that only her fans will take issue with because it seems to be a non-issue for her. “I just noticed that—I think—they adjusted my eye color or something,” she mutters, taking a moment to consider the question. Yes, that’s one of the adjustments. I suppose an argument could be made that the digital scanners aren’t yet able to pick up her additional glow of inner beauty that shines through all the more when she drops wisdom on you like this—

Our salsas arrive—with chips, tacos and other delights to test them on—but she’s still reflecting on a point she wants to make, gazing into the flames near our table. “I can’t even tell you how many friends of mine have the story of, ‘I went through a terrible breakup and my life was falling apart and I got this audition that they tell me I nailed—because I got the job. I never would’ve gotten the job if my life wasn’t falling apart at the time because I didn’t have a filter and everything just came pouring out of me.’ Well, if you’re not in the practice of letting everything pour out of you because life is hard—because we’re sensitive artists and the world pokes at all of our soft and tender places—if you’re not in the practice of saying, ‘yes, and. . . I will show you anyway,’ then when that opportunity comes, are you going to be able to step up in that moment? Maybe not—so be in that practice.” It’s a good reminder not just for performers but for everyone who’s passionate about whatever it is they’re doing.

“It shouldn’t just be people who go through terrible breakups and whose lives are falling apart that land those good jobs! It should be people who are happy too! Everybody should be able to be able to find that place. People at rock bottom feel like they have nothing to lose and they become fearlessly raw. That level of honesty is uncommon and very attractive no matter where you are or what you do. You absolutely can do that without going through trauma, you absolutely can choose to keep the walls down—but it has to be a choice. Choosing to focus less on worrying about what you have and instead focusing on genuinely experiencing what’s currently happening can yield some amazing results. When everything is going well, you have to be willing to risk it all by letting those genuine elements come out and connect with others. If that’s not what [the casting director is] looking for, that’s okay too—you move on to the next thing. It’s going to be perfect for something.”

Truly beautiful.

She’s got me so captivated, I hardly notice that I’ve already polished off four salsa laiden tacos—face happily intact—and it’s time to wrap things up. She’s agreed to teach some private sessions in the morning and wants to be well rested. As she speeds off, vanishing into the twinkling lights of tinseltown, I can’t help but feel excited about the mysterious undisclosed projects she has lined up next—her final hint still ringing in my ears when I had pressed her for more, “I think that you and Geekscape readers in particular are really going to love it.”

The thing is, Rachel Kimsey is just like us AND she’s found herself smack-dab in the middle of a record breaking entertainment revolution worth billions and billions of dollars by doing things genuinely her own way. And that is what sets her apart. Ignore her good advice at your own peril, indeed.

Here then are collected shots of Rachel Kimsey’s performance in cut-scenes from the game (obviously, this will be all SPOILERS for anyone who hasn’t played through yet).

I’m going to have to be honest here. I haven’t really dived into a Call Of Duty game since Modern Warfare blew us away so many years ago. Sure, I’ve dabbled in the various sequels over the years, but I rarely felt compelled to give it too much time since I never felt that subsequent games changed things up enough to keep this never ending war interesting. Yet somehow, when Black Ops III was shown off during E3, Activision and Treyarch caught me by surprise with the wide open areas, high tech upgrades, and increased mobility that I would have never expected from the long running FPS. It was almost as if it wasn’t Call Of Duty at all! I couldn’t help but be intrigued (or dare I say excited), for how these new, potentially bold steps forward would shape the popular franchise. After spending an extended time with the game however, it’s clear that while some positive strides are definitely present, it doesn’t do enough to shed its decade old mechanics, for better and for worse.

Taking place several decades after the last Black Ops game, it’s clear that despite what Ron Perlman might try to tell you, war has changed quite a bit between games. With a greater emphasis on technology, ground warfare is dominated by mechanically augmented soldiers, as well as a machine army that serves fortunate enough to be their buyers. After a rescue mission with your team goes horribly wrong, your character, (which can be customized with a few limited options,) must literally be rebuilt to stay alive. Now with a new body equipped with a variety of advanced abilities, you and your team are tasked with unraveling a conspiracy that’s seemingly headed by one of your own.

Considering the premise revolves around becoming a killing machine, it’s safe to assume that this would come with a ton of awesome ways to wipe out your enemies as you traverse through each of the game’s 11 campaign missions. In this aspect, Black Ops III delivers well enough. Featuring its own level up system that’s separate from the multiplayer modes of the game, killing enemies, completing special tasks and playing on higher difficulties rewards soldiers with upgrades that they can take with them into battle. Moves like double jumping, wall running and machine hacking join up with some more unconventional abilities like summoning incendiary insects to help make the experience your own. This is aside from the abilities you start with, like built in night vision and tactical vision, which lets you see enemies behind cover as long as any one of your allies has eyes on them. These advancements are further highlighted by a by the numbers story that’s brought to life with the help of some incredible looking scripted events, not to mention Hollywood talent like Christopher Meloni of Law and Order: SVU fame.

But while these abilities are all well and good, the campaign experience falls apart somewhat due to the fact that most of these abilities are either impractical when it comes to picking off enemies in the much improved open environments, or are so situational that you rarely have a use for them. In fact, aside from the tactical vision, (my personal favorite,) it felt like the most efficient way to progress was by taking cover until you heal, (a nifty android power that you had before your robot transformation for some reason,) shoot, rinse and repeat. If that sounds familiar, it’s because this is essentially what you have had to do in every COD game for the last 10 years. The robotic enemies go down almost as easily as the humans, and aside from the occasional mech or vehicle fight, the combat feels pretty standard. Despite offering custom load outs, all those awesome new powers, and a variety of new movement options, none of them really matter when there’s no point in using them.

Despite these abilities largely falling flat, one area where Black Ops III really shines is the amount of content it features. Aside from the campaign and multiplayer, Treyarch’s latest also features not one, but two zombie modes to delve into. The first one is the Zombie Mode you may be familiar with from past games. Except this time around, the experience is anchored to its own story, featuring four *really* awful people who are locked in a 1940’s era city that’s swarming with the undead. Tasked with finding artifacts that unlock even bigger secrets, this mode is about as crazy as we’ve come to expect. Being able to spend points earned through combat to transform into tentacle monsters, gather bubble gum that gives players additional perks, materialize weapons, and set traps, all while conversing with a disembodied voice, is the norm when exploring this feature. Zombies is a nice break from the standard modes, as a much more lighthearted, arcade style mode compared to the proper story.

Speaking of the story, the undead have finally been introduced into the game’s narrative, so to speak! Featuring a new Nightmare Mode, this second zombie focused mode acts as an alternate version of the campaign, where a new character fights alongside the soldiers in the main game across the same maps, except each one is swarming with monsters. Since this character is pre-established, she comes with many of the powers you had to unlock originally, receiving improved mobility from the start. Easily the most “video game” part of the package, the floating weapons, breakable crates, floating over hordes of enemies, and possessed teddy bears feel like a call back to games of old, when things didn’t have to make sense! Still, by reusing the maps from campaign, Nightmare ends up feeling like a bit of a chore to get through if you finished the main story first, since all of it is just a retread with different enemies. Still, it’s a fun distraction that helps the game get a lot more mileage, especially with friends.

And friends are what really make Black Ops III stand out. Even more than the new abilities or the expanded modes, the most enjoyable part of the overall package to me was the ability to team up with friends in every mode in both online on local modes. Sometimes, it’s the simple things that make a game most enjoyable, and considering how it seems like games these days are going to war against split screen, it was so refreshing to be able to plug in the second control and run through all these modes with the wife or friends and just go crazy. So what if the graphics take a huge hit? All I know is that those bland fights that I was talking about earlier were a lot more enjoyable when we could tackle them from different angles as a team. Couple that with the tactical vision I mentioned, and the strategic possibilities increase quite a bit. And if the dip in visuals bothers you that much, online has you covered! The only mode that makes little sense to include co op is in multiplayer, where preset loadouts don’t really work when you can see what you’re opponent’s doing in the corner of the screen.

Speaking of multiplayer, you can’t talk COD without talking about the online modes, which is essentially why people keep coming back for more. This time around, in addition to customize your loadouts, weapon appearances and perks, players can pick one of nine Specialists, each of which have a special weapon or ability that’s unique to that character. Much like the campaign, movement has been improved quite a bit, with the wall run, slide and double jump abilities all being available from the start. But unfortunately, again, like the campaign, none of these added moves feel like they give you any real advantage. After all, why wall run into a double jump over a balcony when you can just as easily get killed by a sharpshooter or a nearby camper? Considering COD is somewhat notorious for quick deaths, it doesn’t take much for all of that effort to go to waste.

Aside from these new features, nothing much has changed in terms on online multiplayer. Kill streaks still net extra abilities, most matches are still a mad rush to the middle where everyone drops dead, only to start it all over again, and you’re more than likely to hear a bunch of strangers screaming in your ear. The maps were fairly small considering how many movement options you have, but my biggest issue was the lack of players in each mode. While not necessarily a fault of the game, it’s annoying when I would really want to play one of the capture, escort or defend modes, only to get constantly booted out because everyone’s in Team Deathmatch.

When it comes down to it, the most frustrating part about Call Of Duty Black Ops III is that it takes so many positive steps forward that give us glimpses of what the series can become, but ends up falling back on its tried and true conventions. For those who still love the formula, I’m happy to say that you’ll find an enjoyable, yet safe experience. For the rest of us, the improvements made don’t make enough of a difference to change the minds of those who have tired of the series years ago. Yet, its numerous bonus modes and two campaigns, all of which are playable in both single and multiplayer co-op, help breathe new life into what feels like the same old song and dance when you’re by yourself. If you have a bunch of buddies to go to war with, still love the multiplayer, or haven’t tired of the campaign, Black Ops III is a great way to spend a few evenings, but it won’t change any minds either.

Briefly: I’m still reeling over the creepy-as-hell Weeping Angels Easter-Egg from last month, and Activision has already gone ahead and revealed the very first map pack for its insanely popular (and apparently fantastic) Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

Activision revealed back in October that this latest Call of Duty offering would receive four Map Packs over its lifetime, and the just-announced Black Ops III: Awakening will drop on February 2nd (at least on Playstation, Xbox One owners will have to wait a little longer this time around). The package includes four new maps, as well as a World War II set Zombies campaign, which will probably be a freaking blast (from the little that I’ve played, Zombies is pretty stellar this time around). The maps this time around are Skyjacked (a reimagining of “Hijacked” from Black Ops 2), Gauntlet, Splash, and Rise.

As usual, the package will cost a cool $14.99, or you can pick up the season pass for $49.99.

February is still a ways off, so for now you’ll have to settle for a DLC trailer detailing just what we can expect when Call of Duty: Black Ops III Awakening finally hits your console (or computer) of choice. Take a look below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: I have a feeling that a bunch of Doctor Who fans are running out to pick up some Black Ops III right about now.

I have absolutely no clue how people discover Easter Eggs like this, but apparently the Nuketown 2065 map in Call of Duty: Black Ops III features a pretty neat Who themed secret.

Basically, all that you have to do is shoot the arms off of every one of the maps creepy mannequins in less than two minutes, and you’ll enter a Weeping Angels-esque battle in which the mannequins begin to attack you, but of course, only move when you’re not looking at them.

Creepy.

Blizzcon is popping off right now, and the first HUGE announcement out of the convention is a doozy. Not content being the forerunner for console gaming, PC gaming and now Mobile gaming, they want to move into the production of film and TV!

Activision-Blizzard Studios is going to focus on bringing the company’s countless award winning franchises to life. Ex Disney executive Nick van Dyke has been announced as the co head of the new division, along side a yet unnamed executive.

The studios first property is going to be a TV series based off the popular toys to life franchise, Skylanders. Skylanders Academy has an incredible cast attached. Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks, Norm Macdonald, Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz.

They also have announced a Call of Duty film series, but no information past that has been released.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick was quoted as saying:

Activision Blizzard is home to some of the most successful entertainment franchises in history, across any medium. With the launch of Activision Blizzard Studios, our engaged fans can now watch the games they love come to life across film and television. This isn’t the first time a video game studio has branched into film. Most recently Ubisoft created Ubisoft Motion Pictures and has brought their Rabbids character to TV and are currently producing the Assassin’s Creed Movie starring Michael Fassbender.

This news is potentially something that will make Activision Blizzard and unstoppable juggernaut. With the Blizzard IP’s ALONE garnering an incredible amount of praise and desire from fans for film adaptations. Who WOULDN’T want to see a Diablo or Starcraft movie?

Briefly: Call of Duty fans everywhere have just a few more days of waiting until they can finally pick up one of this year’s coolest looking shooters, and Activision has just debuted a bad-ass live action trailer for the game.

Seriously, thought, Black Ops III looks like a huge departure from previous games in the series, and its upcoming release is probably the most excited I’ve been about the franchise in years.

This new trailer definitely grows that excitement, as it’s so freaking cool. Wayne McClammy directs the video, which features Michael B. Jordan, Cara Delevingne, and Marshawn Lynch. It follows “Kevin as he wall-runs, thrust jumps, and power slides through enemies and zombies on his way to glory. No matter who you are, there’s a solider in all of us.”

Those zombies though.

San Diego Comic Con is in full swing, and the folks over at Activision and Sony have a major treat for us. They’ve teamed up to give attendees a hands on experience with Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer and an incredible escape room puzzle. On Wednesday night, Juan Carlos and I got a sneak peak at the newest addition to the Zombies feature and even attempt an ‘escape room’ puzzle.

The giant Call of Duty tent was brightly lit, and oddly enough, Jazz music could be heard coming from the lot. We immediately noticed the out of place motif, as the staff were all dressed in 1940’s clothing. Flapper girls and tramps checked us in and lead us to the press area, and we found the source of the Jazz music. A live freaking band was there playing music that would sound perfectly placed in a speakeasy.

Shortly afterwards we were called into the experience. Each attendee was handed either a tarot card or a book of matches, and separated into two groups. The entire room was decked out with posters advertising a boxing match and a mystical magician named Nero.

A couple of the developers from Treyarch came out and gave us a sneak peak at the new, bigger, better Zombies mode. It’s called Shadows of Evil, and takes place in a pre war era. The trailer we saw introduced us to the four playable characters. A boxer who rigged a match, a showgirl who murdered a producer, a private detective who was after some criminals and the magician Nero who killed his wife after she racked up an untold amount of debt. All four of the characters were soon kidnapped by an unseen evil sounding voice. It was really interesting to see a narrative being brought to the game mode, especially one as unique as this.

When the Treyarch team was finished, one of the actors gave us the run down of what we would be doing next. The two groups would go into separate rooms, and we would have 8 minutes to solve the puzzle and get out alive. Juan and I walked into what seemed like Nero’s study. A couple of chairs, a fireplace, a piano, and a book case were about the room. In the corner was a locked item box that we needed to find the combination to and get in.

Soon it was time to begin, and when the clock started a bunch of zombies busted through the fireplace. I screamed like a little girl. Everyone began to scatter. I ran over to the piano and started to rifle through the sheet music looking for some sort of code. I opened the piano chair and found a four digit number that didn’t open the lock. Another person came running over with a piece of the set that had a similar four digit number on it. We soon realized that these were most likely asset tags for the props department of where all the stuff came from. Someone on the other side of the room came running over with four playing cards that all had Playstation buttons drawn on them. We soon figured out the order and opened the item box. Inside was a pair of boxing gloves, and we were then instructed to find something “Not of this world” and put it in the box. The group found a remote control in the corner and placed it in the box and we were out in time.

Afterwards we headed into the Playstation truck and played a few rounds of Black Ops III multiplayer. The game feels extremely tight. The sheer amount of customization you have access to is astounding. The free running and double jumping play very well. It was surprising how much I enjoyed playing a shooter on a console. It was very on point.

Is it safe to say we can add one thing to the things that are guaranteed in life?  Along with death and taxes, an annual Call Of Duty is essentially a given at this point. When approaching an annual franchise such as this, the question that surely comes up is how to make it different from its predecessors while keeping the foundation of the wildly popular title intact. In Call Of Duty: Black Ops III, Treyarch seems up to the challenge, integrating some futuristic tech and insane, new abilities to the battlefield. At E3, we checked out the combat in the campaign to find out how much war has changed this year.

While the Black Ops sub series has typically focused on past wars like Vietnam while the main series shifted from WWII to more futuristic settings, this third game decided to play catch up. Taking place in a ruined future, your squad consists of a cybernetic team of enhanced soldiers with some powerful abilities to combat the army you’re up against. Featuring both split screen and online co-op play, each character can be fully customizable, including character creation options in campaign. Once the appearance is set, the load outs and abilities determine their offensive capabilities, which obviously affect how you approach battles.

On that subject, battle felt so much different compared to past games, Most COD games revolve around shooting, taking cover for about five seconds until your bullet wounds self heal, then pop out of cover to do it all again, with the occasional gadget or heavy weapon to mix things up. In Black Ops III, the team is looking to change that mentality, thanks to what’s being called the Cyber Core. This function allows players to change their abilities, tools and attacks on the fly, some of which are so crazy, you’ll wonder if you’re still playing Call Of Duty! From what we saw, soldiers will be able to remotely hack turrets and drones, point at enemies and make them explode Frieza style, ride mechs, destroy mechs, summon insects to tear enemies apart, sprint across the map to punch people out at high speed, and even drop a spiked disc on foes to rip them to shreds! What game is this again?

With friends being able to join your story combined with all of these new powers, the game had to evolve to compensate as well. One of the most noticeable changes was how big the campaign map on display was. Enemies were pouring out from all sides, making it easy to become overwhelmed. Abusing your new tools is a must, since the fights just seemed to flow so much better when the entire team was pulling their weight. Much more preferable over the typically useless AI, Black Ops III has a real chance of being the game to play with all your friends.

While this is one of the last things I expected coming in, I left feeling like this year’s Call Of Duty has a chance to be one of the biggest surprises of the year. It’s not every day that a long standing franchise changes its features up to such an extent, but I’m hoping that the risk pays off for the folks at Treyarch. Combining the campaign with the return of Zombie Mode and the online multiplayer that we’ve come to expect, and it looks like even the most seasoned soldiers will have to stay on their toes when Black Ops III releases this holiday.

I caught wind of this earlier but couldn’t get to a computer in time to write it up. Former Power Rangers actress Rajia Baroudi has been diagnosed with acinic cell carcinoma.

A GoFundMe page has been started on behalf of the actress. A combination of controlled diets and holistic remedies are being used because she is allergic to particular chemicals, so chemotherapy is out of the question.

We are using diet and holistic remedies as she is an APOE Type 4/4 and is very sensitive to chemicals in her body – so no chemotherapy is being done.

Before you say that you’ve never seen Rajia say “It’s Morphin’ Time,” you totally did. Rajia Baroudi portrayed Delphine, the White Alien Ranger. She was the leader of the Alien Rangers of Aquitar in the mini-series Mighty Morphin’ Alien Rangers (SHE! SHE! Power Rangers had women leaders! DC didn’t announce a Wonder Woman movie until this year!) the 10-part finale of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers that transitioned the show into Power Rangers Zeo. So it’s a safe bet that she was a part of your childhood, no matter how small.

In addition to Power Rangers, Rajia has a varied career in video game voice acting, having lent her talents to Diablo III and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

A word about the Alien Rangers in Power Rangers lore: As beloved as Mighty Morphin’ is, I don’t hear a peep about the Alien Rangers whenever BuzzFeed gets nostalgic or a so-called ’90s kid dwells about, you know, the ’90s. I’ve always wondered why, because I can’t think of any kids’ TV show that managed to do the mini-series thing decades before Marvel’s Agent Carter.

The Alien Rangers were among the coolest things the original Mighty Morphin’ series ever did. They were totally weird, totally strange, and totally badass. The Alien Rangers hailed from an ocean planet, Aquitar — further expanding the scope of Power Rangers — and were hella weird human/fish hybrids that had cheesy-but-charming brain stuff on their heads. Their resting pose was a hand symbol and their heads constantly jerked, probably to drive home to kids still too young to comprehend language that they’re aliens. One would think the weird brain stuff would have communicated that easily.

I fucking loved the Alien Rangers. The Mighty Morphin’ costumes are classic, but the Alien Ranger costumes are beauty in simplicity. They have no diamond patterns or sculpted helmets, yet they all look amazing when paired together. They’re among my favorite costumes of all time even if they lasted just ten episodes. Because of how simple they were, I always drew them in my grammar school notebooks or art class projects like a dorky da Vinci, hiding them in plain sight. I remember doing their hand thing for the entirety of my oldest brother’s wedding, because I was seven and didn’t give a fuck. But the best thing about the Alien Rangers were how they contributed to Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers in ways no one ever thinks of: they expanded the universe. That seems pretty normal today since everything has to have a universe, but Power Rangers had a gigantic imagination that no other kids’ show had.

Power Rangers aired in a decade where TV sci-fi came back with a vengeance. Starting with Star Trek: The Next Generation in the late ’80s to The X-FilesBabylon 5FarscapeSlidersStargate SG-1, Reboot, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and VoyagerPower Rangers is an underrated contributor to sci-fi that introduced a generation to love technology and giant robots. In turn, the show soon embraced its sci-fi aspects fully by exploring other planets, dimensions, and even alien societies (like Edenoi, featured in the three-part episode that introduced the spin-off series Masked Rider). In later years, sci-fi became Power Rangers‘ very identity with seasons like Lost GalaxyTime Force, and SPD.

The Alien Rangers single-handedly added a dimension to Mighty Morphin‘, where suddenly Angel Grove, aka your backyard, isn’t all that matters. But no matter who they are, be it aliens or just people who look or sound different than you, goodness is universal and teamwork can overcome all.

As a lifelong Power Rangers fan, this is just awful news about Rajia. I can only speak as a fan and encourage you to donate and spread the word to get the lady back to full health.

Briefly: Activision today debuted a new gameplay trailer for this November’s highly anticipated Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The game was first revealed with a Kevin Spacey-starring trailer a few weeks back. Today’s nine-minute video takes us into the game’s “Induction” campaign level, which follows a group of US Marines as they drop into the battle lines of Seoul, South Korea.

I’m not really a Call of Duty fan, but this looks pretty cool. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. The game hits every console ever (not really) on November 4th.

Briefly: This year’s iteration of Call of Duty has been revealed, and it actually looks quite a bit different than what we’ve seen before (at least within this series). It also looks as though it could act as Titanfall‘s non-existent single player campaign… so there’s that too.

It also stars Kevin Spacey, in the role that Kevin Spacey does best: bad guy.

As you can see from the trailer below, Advanced Warfare boasts some pretty impressive visuals, especially once we see Spacey’s insanely accurate, unmistakable face.

Since its existence was made known to the public, it feels as though all eyes have been on Titanfall for a variety of reasons. Maybe you’re excited for it because it’s the first from title from Respawn Entertainment, a team made up of former Infinity Ward developers who left their famed Call of Duty franchise due to a very public spat with Activision. Or maybe it’s because you want to see if having a blank canvas can allow the team to revolutionize the first person shooter genre as they’ve done in the past? Of course, it might be as simple as hopping aboard the hype train since the game has been heavily pushed as the flagship Xbox One title since well before the console was released. Regardless of why you’ve been following this giant robot free for all, the million dollar question is whether or not Titanfall lives up to the hype.

Rest assured, the game is fantastic!

The hook behind Titanfall is the ability to control giant mechs, as well as highly mobile pilots in a multiplayer arena like environment. In this aspect, it far from disappoints. Matches consist of two six player teams that go head to head in an all out battle; each of the six team members control pilots, who are soldiers who can be customized with weapons, abilities and gear that’s a mix of standard military weaponry, (such as grenades, shotguns and sniper rifles), and futuristic, more imaginative tools, (like a jet pack that allows double jumps and wall running for easy maneuverability, stealth camouflage that makes you harder to see, and the smart pistol, a weapon that instant kills any enemy that it locks on to). In typical FPS fashion, playing more will level pilots up, which unlocks even more gear to play around with. Most notably, reaching a certain level also earns players Burn Cards, one time use perks that give pilots stronger weapons or tactical advantages that last until their next death.

Of course, we can’t mention gear without the game’s namesake. After a certain amount of time passes, (which can be shortened by accomplishing tasks such as kill streaks), pilots can summon their Titans, the giant mechs that got everyone to care so much about the game in the first place. A ton of depth has gone into ensuring that controlling these behemoths feel like an experience all its own. Almost acting as a separate type of soldier, each one can be equipped with their own weapons and abilities, which includes a magnetic shield that catches enemy bullets and launches them back at whoever you’re kind enough to send them to, or a nuclear detonator that sends your robot into suicide mode when its health is depleted, taking anyone in its vicinity out with it. Despite all of these delightful ways to take out the other team, the Titans never feel overpowered, and more like a temporary way to boost your kill count before it’s inevitably destroyed. Players even have the option to make their Titan go into auto pilot mode and either have it guard a position, or follow wherever you go, so jumping straight into the machine isn’t always the most viable option to go with. Kudos to Respawn for balancing the game in a way that makes pilots just as deadly as the Titans in the right hands, making sure that matches never turn into a game of “Press Titan To Win.” My only real complaint is that three types of Titans are too few, but it’s a minor detail compared to the different loadout combinations you can choose for each one.

Each of the game’s nine maps are fairly large, making the six-person team limit seem like it might be more of a chore to track opponents down. However, each game feels like all out war thanks to the grunts that litter the field, making the maps feel just crowded enough to keep you on your toes. These computer controlled foot soldiers don’t have any of your cool stuff to work with. Sadly for them, all they have is a weapon and their wits, which doesn’t count for much since they seem to stand out in the open often for easy points. That’s not to say they’re not dangerous though, because taking them lightly can lead to an unexpected death if their numbers are large enough. Aside from their terrible AI, I felt that they brought an interesting dynamic to the game. While they do award you with small amounts of experience, bonuses and earlier access to your titan when defeated, doing so will usually reveal your position on the map to the enemy. Oftentimes, I found myself holding off on killing grunts so I could stay hidden from human opponents, or even used my own grunts as cover so I would know if an enemy was near once they targeted my “friends” first. It’s moments like these that really make the game stand out from the typical shooter currently on the market.

With so many aspects that have went into the game, it’s all for nothing without a slew of interesting game modes to play with. Despite all of the praise for the game’s features so far, this area is where the game is at its weakest. As noted in the months leading up to release, there is no single player content outside of the optional training mode, and there’s no local multiplayer at all. As of launch, Titanfall has five game modes across fifteen maps. Three of the five are your run of the mill modes with Pilot Hunter, a fancy term for Team Deathmatch where killing pilots is the only way to net points, Capture the Flag, forcing teams to grab flags at the heart of the enemy spawn point and relaying back to their own base, and Hardpoint, where teams fight to control and defend specific points on the map, accumulating points for the amount of time they own each spot.

Aside from those FPS staples, the other two modes are Attrition, which is basically Pilot Hunter with additional scoring, giving teams points for killing Titans and grunts, and Last Titan Standing, where pilots start off in their mechs with the winning team being the one with the… last Titan standing. If your titan is destroyed, your pilot can still fight. If your pilot is killed, you don’t respawn until the next round starts. None of these are exactly setting the world on fire since they’re so similar to the other play types, but I found the most interesting aspect of play to be in the campaign mode.

Now I know what you’re thinking. “You said there’s no single player! I’m going to comment about how stupid you are!” Hold on there you eager beaver. Campaign is still multiplayer, but this time, it’s within the very loose context of a story. Each team is part of either the “Militia” or the “IMC”, who fight across nine maps that play in a preset order with specific game modes. The campaign takes us through an exciting tale of redemption, desperation and betrayal that will make you… hell, who am I kidding? The story isn’t very good. Aside from a small amount of dialogue, the scenarios don’t even change depending on who wins. The biggest reason to limit yourself in the campaign instead of having it your way in classic play is that finishing each faction’s story is the only way to unlock all of the titans. I almost feel bad running it down so much since I think blending a campaign with a multiplayer game is an incredible idea, it just doesn’t feel like anything more than an afterthought.

However, when it comes to the merits of a game, the ultimate measure is how fun it is to play. In this department, Titanfall is an incredibly addictive experience with plenty of fresh ideas that even has someone like me, a person who has been burnt out of FPS games for years, playing for hours on end. Everything from the titans to the mobility of the pilots and the inclusion of grunts make it one of the most fast paced, varied shooters in years. It’s biggest sin is that there’s just not enough to do with all of these fancy new ideas. We’ve been capturing flags and fighting to the death for years, and throwing parkour and mechs into the mix doesn’t change much. What’s worse is that they had a great idea with the multiplayer campaign mode, but it feels almost pointless when it acts nearly identical to the standard play modes.

The value of an online only game relies on the community’s eagerness to play, so at this point, it’s impossible to tell. As it stands though, it’s hard to see most players sticking around for months upon months with so few unique modes to play, essentially forcing owners to rely on future DLC to extend interest. With that said, Titanfall is a fantastic step in the right direction and has the potential to become the next turning point in the evolution in the FPS. It’s just not there yet.

The Positives And The Negatives

+ The nimble pilots and towering Titans add a ton of gameplay options while somehow remaining balanced.

+ Inventive weapons, gear and perks.

+ Computer controlled grunts add an extra layer of strategy to the typical FPS formula.

– Five game modes seem like too few for a multiplayer only game, especially when they’re either the typical fare, or cut from the same cloth.

– Three Titan types are too few.

-While the multiplayer campaign is a great idea, its execution is… yeah. It comes off feeling like an afterthought.

Since its announcement, Titanfall has had a huge amount of hype surrounding it, and why shouldn’t it? It’s the first game from Respawn Entertainment, headed by the guys responsible for the glory days of Call of Duty, only now unbound by the restrictions of a military shooter. Then again, I haven’t been a big fan of the genre in a LONG time, with high sales of the biggest franchises pushing it into a state of complacency. However, after spending way more time on the beta than I every expected, Titanfall turned me into a believer. Now that we’re only a few days away from its official launch, here are five reasons that even the most skeptical gamer should be excited for this Tuesday.

1. The Format

While a ton of criticism has been sent towards Respawn’s way for having most of each squad in this team based online shooter be bot controlled, it actually works in the game’s favor after I got to see how it worked. Basically, each of the six real players on each team are pilots, who have access to top of the line equipment and of course, the Titans. Everyone else are foot soldiers that offer support for the pilots and their squads. Killing them are easier, which nets their own bonuses and experience, but they are still a real danger. Plus, having weaker units on the field doesn’t put any real players at a disadvantage while making your class feel elite. It’s so much fun in action and can only get better in the final version.

2. The Parkour

The parkour elements of the game have been somewhat underplayed since the innitial reveal, but putting them in action is a blast. Blending standard competitive shooter mechanics with Mirror’s Edge type movement, it gives players a ton of movement options to remain a hard target to hit. Climbing, dodging and even shooting has a whole new dynamic, which turns the environments into a new kind of playground.

3. The Evacuations

In most shooters, the game ends when one team reaches their goal, then everyone gets kicked to the lobby and starts all over again. In Titanfall, the match isn’t over when the war has been won. Any remaining players on the losing team have to rush to an evacuation point, where a ship will lift them to safety. The winning team gets a chance to gloat by picking off the losing team before they can escape. If the losers are killed or the evac ship is destroyed, the winning team gets bonus experience and extra bragging rights. Any losers that escape get a pretty view of the galaxy and a cool EXP boost. I’m not sure if this concept has ever been in another multiplayer shooter, but it definitely adds to the fun factor of the match, and gives the losing team a chance to get the last laugh.

4. The Smart Pistol

This might be a subject of contention amongst FPS purists, but I LOVE the Smart Pistol. This primary weapon automatically targets any enemies that are in its large cursor and instantly headshots as many foes that are in your sights. The bot controlled grunts go down in one shot while a pilot needs to be locked on long enough for three locks before you can expect an instant kill. I have to say, there was nothing more rewarding than watching grunts drop like dominoes with one shot of the pistol. It’s fantastic, cheapness be damned.

5. The Titans

Of course, the Titans would have to be awesome in Titanfall, right? How could piloting a giant mech not be? Each pilot can summon their Titan after a certain amount of time, (which decreases faster with each kill). Setting up the right loadouts can give Titans some amazing abilities. I mean sure, machine guns and rocket launchers are cool, but they’re par with the course. But having smoke bombs that choke any pilots trying to sabotage you, shields that suspend and launch enemy bullets back at them and a self destruct bomb that kills all enemies around you once the Titan is destroyed really make piloting these fun. If direct combat isn’t your thing, you can also turn your Titan into your new best friend and have them go into auto pilot while having them follow or defend you. It’s the stuff of legend.

And with that, I’m comfortable in saying that Titanfall has the potential to revolutionize the FPS genre in the same way Call of Duty did all those years ago. My biggest fear is that the game might run thin quickly without a campaign. Here’s to hoping that the final game will have enough modes, weapons and mods to sustain us for a long, long time.

Briefly: Activision has just launched a sweet new live-action trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which hit stores today.

The trailer was directed by The Wolverine director James Mangold (who just entered talks to helm a sequel). It also features Megan Fox, and stars a bunch of pals going to war together. Cute, huh?

We reported just yesterday on a new Alien filled game mode for the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts. Well the people at Activision reacted quickly and put out this trailer, hot on the heels of the leak. Check out the Extinction trailer below!

Call of Duty: Ghosts introduces Extinction – an all-new 1-4 player cooperative game mode featuring a unique blend of fast-paced survival action, FPS base defense, scavenging and class leveling.

Gone are the much loved zombies, and in their place are some spooky looking aliens! Admittedly, when I first saw the leaked photos I was a little skeptical, but this trailer has brought me back. The  environments look interesting and the gameplay looks like a compelling change of pace from the original zombies missions.

You can get your hands on CoD: Ghosts on PC, PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii U November 5th. It will also be available on the PS4 and Xbox One at launch.

Briefly: Call of Duty: Ghosts is finally nearing release (at least for current-gen consoles and Wii U), and Activision has just debuted a fantastic launch trailer for the game.

The video takes us through some action-packed, dog-filled moments, and even though I haven’t enjoyed a Call of Duty game since the original Modern Warfare (which I loved), Ghosts has certainly piqued my interest.

The next iteration of the CoD franchise, CoD: Ghosts, is just a few months from release. The developers certainly are making a big deal out of this one. The game features real time lighting and advanced fish AI. We all know that the main draw of the game is the online multiplayer, and the guys over at Activision have just released this fancy new trailer.

Now, admittedly I went into this trailer thinking it was going to be the same old shit. But after watching I was pleasantly surprised. It looks like the team over at Infinity Ward is really trying to make the proper next step for their game. The new game modes look really fun, and the Battlefield style destruction should add a new variable to the hectic run and gun. But we all know what the best part of this trailer is, you get to play as a GIRL!

When Call of Duty: Ghosts was previewed at the Xbox One conference, the aftermath felt like meme central. But between fish AI, “Collar Duty” jokes and lots of love for dogs, there was actually a game in there somewhere. Aside from the usual military shooter game play, the conference promised a weakened America, a new cast of characters and a much more desperate setting. These were all of the qualities I was keeping an eye out for when I stepped into Activision’s Ghosts presentation, and I was happy to walk out with a few surprises.

Ghosts will be the story of two brothers who are recruited by an elite squad of soldiers that tackle missions to protect a crippled United States. Traveling all around the world to locations such as Venezuela, The Caribbean and the deep, dark recesses of San Diego, each location was heavy on action. One mission had the Ghosts repelling down a building while picking off security forces on the way down. Another had them swimming underwater and blowing up a submarine with a torpedo launcher. All of this is made so much better by an obviously improved AI, so let’s hope the days of your team mates standing around looking into the distance while you get pumped full of led are long gone.

But who cares about the human partners! This game is all about Riley, the service dog that stole the show at the game’s reveal. What seemed like a simple squad member turns out to be so much more. In a dog focused stage, the main characters were able to give voice commands to their pet for various tactical functions. What’s even better is the game showed players taking direct control of Riley as he maps out paths, checks to make sure corners are safe with his back mounted camera and can even stealth take down enemy soldiers. Once the coast is clear, control comes back to the boring old humans to shoot stuff up. BUT… Riley was also seen being sent into rooms to ambush enemies and trigger breaches. On these sections alone, I’m more than excited to bury terrorists with an actual dog.

This is all framed with an overhauled graphics engine, including displacement mapping which makes terrain look even more realistic. New weapons include an underwater machine gun that’s based on real military tech, and more new guns are sure to follow. Multiplayer wasn’t shown in this demo, but as long as Call of Duty is in the title, you can expect plenty of multikills, upgrades and airstrikes when you take the fight online.

All in all, Ghosts seems like overhauling the story, the settings and adding a dog of all things might be the next step in the evolution of the series. I know that nothing I write will help or hinder this game’s ability to sell tens of millions of copies, but I’m more excited for Ghosts than I’ve been for a COD game in a long, long time.

Another year, another Call of Duty. When Activision and Infinity Ward took the stage of the Xbox One reveal to discuss the upcoming COD: Ghosts, they promised that it wouldn’t be more of the same. While that has yet to be seen from a game play standpoint, the details they did reveal hope to convince gamers that this is going to be more than just a map pack in disguise.

Featuring dynamic online maps that change as you play, a new cast and a story written by Stephen Gaghan, (who penned Traffic and Syriana,) were perhaps overshadowed by the newest squad mate to join the team. Rather than another roided up military tough guy, a great amount  of detail went into the squad member on four legs.

Not since Dog’s Life has so much attention gone into properly capturing dog behavior in a game. It’s good to see that the next generation of canine technology has finally arrived! Using motion capture with a real German Shepard, Infinity Ward promises that you’re going to really care for this dog. I mean really build a strong attachment to him as you brave the trenches of war against enemy soldiers that are out for your blood. Knowing that no matter how many combatants head your way, you’ll get through it knowing your loyal friend is at your side!

20 minutes behind schedule but we’re here! Newest console will be called ” XBOX ONE” So far the newest console will have a lot of the same features the PS4 has. Live game DVR and asynchronous events. Search for your perfect match making game while you do other things.

 

EA Sports president is on stage talking about exclusives. EA Sports ignite. (New game engine?)

Sports stars are on talking about their specific sports. A lot of bombastic music. Appears that EA Sports Ignite IS a new engine or programming platform specifically for sports games.

Got a lot of buzz words going on here. EA Ignite will feature 10x the animation depth and detail from previous engines. Multiple calculations will allow for more life like interactions.

This crowd HAS to be paid or have plants in it because there are some people going CRAZY over polygons. Fifa 14 looks fucking GORGEOUS!

 

Microsoft studios Phil Spencer on stage. This crowd is dubbed! THEY DUBBED THEIR CROWD!

MS Studios wants to focus on original content and story telling. Developers have already been writing for the XBOX ONE.

Forza Motorsports 5 running on XBOX ONE. MY Favorite racing game of all time. Forza 4 looked amazing but this looks pretty damn good. I think slightly less than PS4 Drive Club but still only a trailer. Forza 5 will be available at console launch. More news at E3!

UGGG! “Cloud Powered” games that change. I don’t like this.  Remedy Games (Max Pane) have a new game called Quantum Break. Live action trailer. Game looks as if time will be the major gimmick here.

Stephen Gaghan writer of Traffic and Syriana worked on the story. The game takes place after a global event where the US is the underdogs, and actual dogs. You will have a dog be apart of your squad. New polygon tech, Sub D, will increase polygon count the closer you get to an object.

Did they really just say that game leaning is a new feature? LEANING A NEW FEATURE? DAFUQ!?

Environments will have an AI. Smoke. Flora and fauna. Shadows.

Dynamic maps. Earthquakes (BF3 much?), player damage. More in depth player customization.

Side by side of COD: MOD 3 and Ghosts. There is a HUGE leap of “visual fidelity”. Granted, COD MOD 3 was running on VERY old tech, this jump is substantial.

New trailer for COD Ghosts. All is supposed gameplay running on an XBOX ONE. So much ‘MURICA in this trailer it hurts. I am getting a confederate flag tattoo because of this!

 

AND THAT IS A WRAP FOLKS! Not a lot of new games displayed but still a good deal of information to go through. Focus on centralizing entertainment was huge. Expect to see more focus on keeping you in the living room and using the XBOX ONE to consume entertainment. Activision began teasing the next installment in the Call Of Duty franchise on the game’s official site the other day and now the official title and release date for the game have been revealed via a leaked promotional poster. Call Of Duty: Ghosts, which could quite possibly be a prequel game featuring fan-favorite character Simon “Ghost” Riley from Modern Warfare 2, will be released on November 5th.  You can check out the leaked promotional poster below.
