Briefly: This is certainly some news that I wasn’t expecting to read today: Ben Affleck is no longer directing the standalone Batman film.

Affleck, who co-wrote the films script with Geoff Johns, noted that “There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

You’ll see Affleck’s next turn at Batman on November 17th in Justice League. I have to say, I’m a big fan of Affleck’s directing, and I’d have loved to see how an Affleck-led Batman film would have turned out.

Who would you like to see direct the feature? Be sure to sound out below.

Briefly: Here’s a nice Monday morning tidbit: Disney has finally let loose the official title for December’s next chapter in the Star Wars franchise.

Here’s the official word, straight from the official Star Wars website:

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.
What do you think of the title? What do you hope to see in the film later this year? Sound out below!

Briefly: Great news, everyone!

I’ve had my eyes on The Deep End’s upcoming first title, Perception, since its Kickstarter campaign first went live back in 2015.

The team has been filling hungry gamers in on all of the titles’ development news since the Kickstarter was successfully funded, and today revealed a very exciting expansion to the game’s please-be-soon release – a PS4 version.

The Deep End took to the Official Playstation Blog to announce the partnership with Feardemic, (a new publishing label focused on bringing players unique psychological horror games), who will be publishing the console version of the game.

Perception is a first-person narrative horror adventure that tells the story of Cassie, a blind heroine who uses her extraordinary hearing and razor-sharp wits to unravel the mysteries of an abandoned estate that haunts her dreams.

It’s probably a pipe dream, but I’d do almost anything to see a Playstation VR enabled version of this title. As a new Playstation VR owner, I was blown away by the first part of Notes on Blindness, and the very thought of being able to play a horror title as a blind protagonist is making me wet my pants already.

For now, you can take a look at Perception‘s trailer below, and let us know if you’re excited for the game!

This is a phenomenal looking book from a fantastic team, and we can’t wait to read it!

Yeah, we’re a little biased due to the fact that our pals Jason Inman and Ashley Victoria Robinson are a part of this high-flying, all-ages adventure, but the book also looks (and sounds) damned cool.

Jason is the host of DC Comics All Access, podcast Geek History Lesson and more, while Ashley is a  Top Cow Talent Hunt winner turned Head Editor (“Apollo IX #1”, “Witchblade #175”). Both of them co-wrote a multitude of episodes of popular webseries The Red Shirt Diaries.

The duo, along with artist Ben Matsuya (Criminal Macabre) have teamed up to create a 5 issue mini series through that stars a spunky teenage girl with a jetpack, her genius mechanic brother and a bad guy who wants to end the crusade of the “flying girl”!

The book’s called Jupiter Jet, and it follows the origin story of the eponymous superhero as she must find a way to balance her Robin Hood-esque activities, support the family repair shop and keep her secret identity – Jacky Johnson – out of the hands of the mobsters that are always on their
trail … and the mysterious man who controls them all.

It sounds incredibly fun, and it looks great. Naturally, based on the ‘Crowdfund This’ prefix of this article, the team needs some help if this fantastic idea is set to come to fruition. Book one has already been written and drawn, but that leaves four more issues in the story, and the team is looking for a cool $14,500 to make everything happen.

The team notes that “money earned will go to covering fees, production, postage, and printing of the collection. Any leftover money will be used to pay for new artwork that will be used in the series…maybe some back-ups by other creators? Variant covers? All money will go back into the book, period. The first goal of this campaign is to give our readers a high-quality product.” They even created a sweet pie chart that breaks things down:

The project just launched this morning, and at the time of writing, it’s already raised an impressive 27% of its goal.

There are some fantastic backer rewards up for grabs with this one, including copies of the book (digital or physical), social media follows, sweet prints, original pages, portfolio reviews, lunch with the creators (and Jon Schnepp) and even more.

You can take a look at some slick preview pages below (along with the Kickstarter video). Head here to check out the Kickstarter campaign (and back, of course), and be sure to share the project with your friends! These are some amazing creators with a great idea, so let’s help them out any way that we can!

Briefly: Well this is unexpected.

Legendary Entertainment’s new owners, Wanda Cultural Industry Group, has revealed today that company founder and longtime CEO Thomas Tull has left the company.

Legendary’s first picture was the wildly successful (and franchise launching) Batman Begins, and they’ve seen substantial financial (and critical) success with titles like Jurassic World, Inception, and many more.

Tull was famous for making pictures like Pacific Rim and Godzilla happen simply because he was a fan of the material. Hopefully his replacement can continue that trend.

Here’s the entire press release, in case you’re curious of Tull’s current plans, or Wanda’s plan for replacement:

Thomas Tull has resigned from Legendary Entertainment and effective immediately will assume the role of Founding Chairman of the company he established and led as Chairman and CEO since 2005. Wanda Cultural Industry Group has named Dr. Jack Gao, Group Senior VP & CEO, International Investments and Operations, Wanda Cultural Industry Group as Interim CEO, Legendary Entertainment while the Company pursues the identification of a full-time CEO.

Wanda acquired Legendary in January 2016 and in a year’s time has built a solid platform and business to expand the release of the studio’s tentpole films into China and beyond. Wanda will also continue to fully support Mary Parent and her creative team with the resources needed to develop and produce its existing and future film slate.

“We are thankful to Thomas for his founding vision of Legendary as well as his commitment, leadership and partnership this past year. He will forever be part of the Company’s already rich legacy and powerful DNA,” said Gao. “As we move forward, Wanda aims to transform Legendary into a next generation studio of the future with a far-reaching creative and global platform. We look forward to working with the creative team to manage our already viable film slate with more to come in the near future.”

Stated Tull: “Building Legendary has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I have had the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of where the business is going and lead an incredible group of people as we innovated the way we thought about the film and television business, and the possibilities of collaboration between the west and the east. After a year of transition, I know that the Company is stable with great leadership, so at this point I am able to leave and pursue the new interests and endeavors I have been planning.”

Under his stewardship, Thomas Tull built Legendary Entertainment into a leading media company with film, television, and digital and publishing businesses. During his time, in aggregate, Legendary’s associated productions realized grosses of more than $13 billion worldwide with films such as Godzilla, 300: Rise of an Empire, Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, the Dark Knight trilogy and the Jackie Robinson biopic 42.

Tull plans to focus time on his Tull Investment Group which invests in life science, media and technology companies such as Magic Leap, Oculus Rift, Pinterest, Heal and Zoox. Tull serves on the Board of Directors of Hamilton College, his alma mater, and Carnegie Mellon University. He also sits on the boards of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the National Football Foundation, the San Diego Zoo, the Smithsonian Institution and is part of the six-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers ownership group, where he also holds a board seat.

Tull will retain the title of Founding Chairman and remain a stakeholder in Legendary; he will remain involved as a producer on the Monsterverse movies and Legendary projects based on Dune.

Briefly: Nope. This still doesn’t look anything like the Archie that I grew up with, though I’m still oddly intrigued by the premise of this series.

CW today debuted another short look at next month’s Riverdale premiere, featuring plenty of new footage that adds to the series’ already dark tone.

As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same… Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — not follow in his dad’s footsteps—despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves – which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice (Mädchen Amick) aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)… Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows…

Briefly: The first major AAA delay of 2016… has become the first AAA cancellation of 2017.

Rumours ran rampant this morning, with multiple sources quoting that Platinum Games’ and Microsoft had parted ways, with Scalebound left in major trouble, and potentially even cancelled.

Just moments ago, Microsoft confirmed to IGN that Scalebound will indeed never be released. Here’s the quote from Microsoft:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”

Josh Jackson noted some extreme excitement for the title after its gameplay footage debut, and I have to say that it’s damned disappointing that this promising-looking title will never see the light of day.

Were you looking forward to the title? Be sure to sound out in the comments below.

With anticipation high for the upcoming Nintendo Switch, the staff here at Geekscape are sharing their thoughts and wishes for Nintendo’s new system… and we’re doing it over 12 days: The 12 Days of Switchmas! You can head here to read all of the previous entries, but today, it’s my turn!

My colleagues have touched on some of the prospective Switch inclusions that we’re beyond excited for, as well as some functionality that’s been sorely lacking on Nintendo consoles for multiple generations at this point. My wish for the Nintendo Switch is some more lacking functionality that the Switch absolutely needs to figure out, seeing as the unit is your home and portable console in one: much, much better content and account management.

Say my pal digitally buys a new Xbox One game and wants to come over to play some multiplayer. Does he unhook, pack up, and bring over his entire console so that we can play that new game?

Of course not. That sounds ridiculous. He comes over, logs into his Xbox account, and we download the game and play it. Easy. It works the same way on Sony’s family of consoles, and you better believe that this is the way it works for Steam gamers too.

But that’s not the way it works on Nintendo consoles. Purchases are tied to the hardware and can only be moved by performing a ‘System Transfer’, which will transfer the content licenses to the new console, while erasing the old console in the process (which gets even tougher if your old console is not functioning). I was silly enough to make most of my 3DS game purchases digitally (for the convenience factor, you know), which felt far less convenient when I realized that upgrading to the New 3DS Xl would leave exactly half of my 3DS consoles feeling useful, which wouldn’t have been the case had I purchased physical games (and wouldn’t be the case on another console, either).

This makes physical purchases the only real option for Wii and Wii U gamers who want to play their games in someone else’s digs, aside from physically bringing your console with you. It stinks.

I can definitely see things getting even messier with the release of the Switch, a primarily home console that also has the ability to be used on the go (which is one of the system’s main selling features). The above issues that I mention don’t seem like a huge deal for Nintendo’s new home / portable, but it still seems like a nightmare if I want to share a game in my own household. Say I want to take the Switch with me for my daily commute, but my fiancé has the day off and wants to play some Stardew Valley while I’m away. Multiple consoles would solve this on another platform (it’s easy to have a second Xbox One or PS4, and you can use one digitally purchased title on both concurrently without any issues), but with Nintendo’s current functionality, we’re buying a second Switch and two copies of every game. Our wallets definitely can’t handle that. And it only gets worse if you’re looking at a whole family of Nintendo Switch consoles.

The Switch is definitely going to introduce some interesting issues into the next generation that I’m not quite sure how Nintendo is going to solve. If I’m a father of a family of five (who likes Master Chief and Nathan Drake just as much as I like Mario) buying one Switch for the family, and I make a rule that the super portable Switch is not to leave the house: why didn’t I pick up a more powerful and cheaper Xbox One or PS4 instead.

Honestly, I can’t wait to pick the console up (I’m standing in line right now), but if Nintendo doesn’t let up on their current policies when it comes to utilizing multiple consoles, I don’t think that I’ll ever be able to use the Switch to its full capabilities, and that would make me really sad. I just want to be able to purchase one digital copy of a title, and have it work on multiple consoles if I decide to get another, without dropping another $79.99 (because Canada)!

Check back tomorrow for Day 7 of The 12 Days of Switchmas, and be sure to share your Switchmas wishes below!

Can you believe that 2016 has come to a close? We’ve finally abolished that dreaded six for ten more years, and a cool, clean, sexy seven has taken its place.

2016 has been an incredible year for everything aside from presidential candidates and celebrity deaths, so as always, we wanted to share our favourite games, movies, moments and more of 2016.

We’ve seen Adam’s favorite thingsMCDave’s favorite films, and Josh’s favourite games too. Today, it’s Derek’s turn, so read on for his top seven video games of 2016!

Yeah… that’s a weird number.

7. Pokemon GO

This one is on the list less so for the game itself (which I’m still playing on my way to and from work), and more for the incredible way that it came into this world. It was the epitome of phenomenon – before Pokémon GO even officially launched in my country hundreds upon hundreds of people were gathered at “Tri-Lures” nearly 24 hours a day; I witnessed dozens and dozens of full grown men and women run as fast as they could when a rare ‘Mon appeared, and I heard the collective groan of 6000+ eager fans in Comic-Con’s Hall H this past Summer as Niantic’s John Hanke revealed that a legendary bird would not be making an appearance that morning.

The game has (sadly) died down a lot since those first incredible months, though I still see quite a few people at popular Pokéstops at almost all hours of the day. Really, the launch of Pokemon GO was like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and likely unlike anything we’ll ever see again.

While most of the folks I know now play pretty casually, or have stopped playing entirely, the real genius of Pokémon GO has been in its ability to raise or re-kindle interest in the brand. I swear that I hear more people (friends included) talking about or playing some form of Pokémon today than I have in the past 15 years. Thanks for this one, Nintendo and Niantic.

6. Overcooked

Overcooked is probably the most fun I’ve had playing a video game this year.

I’ve been getting way into couch co-op experiences on my Xbox One over the past six months, and while my fiancé and I are still slowly making our way through the Halo and Borderlands games, Overcooked is a title that I’m eager to jump into every time we have friends over (as it feels essentially impossible with less than four players).

The game has all players as chefs cooperating in crazy, constantly changing kitchens so that they can save a bleak, bleak future from certain destruction. Typically, players will be cut off from certain ingredients or cooking apparatus’, and your group needs to have amazing communication to do well in each level. Typically, our group will do poorly in a stage, figure out how each of us could be better used in the particular stage through way too in-depth discussion, and then jump back into the same level to perform substantially better. It’s an absolute blast and there have definitely been multiple instances where I’ve had to pause the game from laughing so, so hard.

It’s cheap, and it’s so much fun. You can even play with four players using just two controllers, which adds further challenge and hilarity to the already gut wrenching title.

5. Stardew Valley

I always loved the idea of games like Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing, but regardless of the iteration that I tried, neither game could ever hold my interest for more than a few hours.

I picked up Stardew Valley on a whim for my still figuring out her gaming niche fiancé, and pretty quickly became as addicted to the game as she is.

Every time I turn the game on, it’s a constant struggle to turn it off in order to do something more productive. “Just one more day.” I’ll tell myself over and over again as the seasons and hours pass, but hours later the game is still on. It’s simple, it’s incredible, the soundtrack is definitely in my Apple Music library, and I bet that I end 2017 having played Stardew Valley more hours than anything that’s set to come out this year.

If this game gets some co-op multiplayer, I think we may both quit our jobs and die of bed (couch) sores. If you’re trying to get your non-gamer partner into a video game, this is a great place to start… though you may need to buy a second console as they’ll be hogging it all the time.

4. Oxenfree (Review Here)

Oxenfree was one of the very first titles that I played in 2016, and as I noted in my review last January, it was “far and away the first standout title of 2016”.

From its unique put-this-on-my wall art style, its incredible soundtrack (that I still listen to regularly), the harrowing what-could-happen-next plot and the themes within, and that angsty teen coming of age dialog that I simply can’t get enough of, Night School Studio crafted an absolute gem that deserves to be played by more gamers.

I could go on, but you can head right here for my review and full thoughts on the title (play it)!

3. The Last Guardian

I can’t believe it’s finally here.

As a YUGE fan of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, I firmly believed that I’d never have an opportunity to play this game,

Now it’s here, and it’s everything that I’d hoped for from a Team Ico game, and mostly what I expected as well (including its clunky controls).

I haven’t had an opportunity to finish the game just yet, but if Trico dies I know I’ll be bawling my eyes out. The relationship formed here is like nothing I’ve ever seen in a video game before, and it’s likely a bond that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

While I’m disappointed that you’ll need a PS4 Pro to get decent performance from The Last Guardian, regardless of the model you have this needs to be on your must-play list. Reviews came out divisive, but Team Ico’s latest tells an incredible tale and will be one of the most memorable titles of this generation. You just definitely need to expect a title that doesn’t feel completely modern.

2. The Elder Scrolls Skyrim: Special Edition

2016 marked the first time that I played Skyrim in the launch of its PS4/Xbox One Special Edition, and for the past few months I’ve been wondering: what the hell took me FIVE years to ever give it a shot.

As a huge fan of Bethesda’s Fallout series, a similar game in an incredible fantasy world with insane creatures like massive dragons, mammoths, witches and literal giants (that I still cower in fear from) sounds right up my alley. And it is right up my alley, as it turns out.

Yes, combat has come a long way in the past five years (my character is pretty stealthy and into archery, and it’s still pretty odd when a dude with an arrow sticking out of him decides that there’s nothing to worry about), and a lot of the game’s mechanics feel clunky as hell compared to newer titles like Fallout 4 and even The Elder Scrolls Online (which I’m also playing thanks to Skyrim), but with every quest feeling as varied as it does, and such a vast world so ripe for exploring, I cannot wait to see where my journey as Dragonborn takes me.

If you haven’t played Skyrim, and you like video games even a little bit, you owe it to yourself to pick this one up. Heck, even if you have played it, the ability to mod the game on Xbox One and (to a lesser extent) PS4 is pretty damned cool.

1. Firewatch (Review Here)

Another incredibly gorgeous indie gem from ex-Telltale Games staffers.

Back in February I noted that “tears were welling in my eyes within the first few moments of Firewatch, and I can’t think of a single other video game in my 25 years that’s had such an affect on me so quickly.”

It’s that damned good.

The game features incredible performances from Mad Men’s Rich Sommer and The Walking Dead (game) Cissy Jones, and aside from (still) being the most gorgeous game that I’ve ever played, it’ll have you on the edge of your seat for nearly every second of its too-short campaign.

Since writing my review back in February, the game has been updated to fix some of the performance issues that plagued its early builds, and has added a neat new mode where you can just wander around the beautiful forest and chillax.

Seriously, every frame of this game looks like the Olly Moss painting that its art style is based on. It doesn’t get better than this. Yep, its ending is pretty divisive, but I fell firmly on the “love it” side of things.

You can read my review of Firewatch here, and listen to Shane and I discuss the game here.

Game That I’m Going To Love But Have Only Put An Hour Into So Far: Overwatch

Briefly: DONTNOD’s Life is Strange was by and large my favourite video game of 2015.

That said, of course I couldn’t be more excited for their next title, Vampyr: Darkness Within. The first trailer for the game debuted at E3 earlier this year, and showed off a title that looked nothing like Life is Strange, but looked extremely intriguing in its own right.

Today, a new trailer for Vampyr has popped up online, showing off more of that dark, dark London backdrop, and getting us further acquainted with our pro(?)tagonist, Docor Jonathan Reid.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! Vampyr: Darkness Within is set to launch in 2017.

Vampyr, the new Action-RPG from acclaimed game-development studio Dontnod, explores protagonist Jonathan Reid’s moral plight in the E3 trailer. Set in London, 1918, Vampyr promises to offer a unique and deeply immersive experience with a strong and engaging narrative steeped in vampire mythology. The E3 trailer unveiled today introduces the nightmare your hero must live every day now he has become a real monster.

You play as a veteran of World War I, Doctor Jonathan Reid as he tries to come to terms with his transition, and the hunger that drives him to kill. Vampyr includes a unique level-up system that plays on this narrative conundrum, where huge amounts of experience points can be gained by feeding on innocent people, compared to combat. As a doctor, you must decide how many lives must be sacrificed in order for you to find a cure for this “disease”, the ultimate goal of Jonathan.

Briefly: We’ve been having a blast with Nintendo’s Super Mario Run since its release last Thursday, and apparently so have many, many others.

Nintendo revealed today that game was downloaded more than 40 million times in its first four days of availability – far exceeding the numbers presented by various analytics firms, which noted between 2.85 and 5 million downloads as the game’s first day numbers.

Apple’s Phil Schiller noted that this marks an App Store record for the fastest-downloaded game. Whoah. The game has also sat atop the ‘Top Grossing’ section of the App Store for the past several days, meaning that Super Mario Run is making a lot of money.

Of course, while all of us are just excited to be playing a new, different, extra portable variation of Mario (with some slick extra modes to keep us going once we’ve collected every Black Coin), many individuals on the web are having a field day about the title. The game is currently rated 2/5 stars on the App Store, and essentially every single one-star review is simply complaining that the game costs money.

The whole thing really makes me think of Louis CK’s famous ‘Everything’s amazing and nobody’s happy’ bit. This game is freaking awesome, and worth every penny.

In any case, I’m off to run some Toad Rally. What’s been your favourite part of Super Mario Run thus far?

Briefly: We’re still crying with laughter at the last trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie.

Naturally, we’ll need to wait a few more months to feast our eyes on the full feature, but Warner Bros. has just debuted a new batch of character posters to keep us excited for the upcoming spinoff.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Take a look at the posters below, and be sure to let us know what you think! The LEGO Batman Movie hits theatres on February 10th!

Briefly: In case the recently launched (and awesome) Bioshock: The Collection isn’t quite your style, if you’re an Xbox One owner, you now have another option.

Bioshock, Bioshock 2, and Bioshock Infinite are now all backwards compatible on Xbox One. This means that if you’ve got the games on your Microsoft account, or if you’ve got the discs laying around, you now have an opportunity to replay these classic titles.

Larry Hryb revealed the additions on his Twitter account earlier today, and as someone who hasn’t had an opportunity to pick up The Collection, but has the first game on my Microsoft account, I’m more than happy to be sharing this news.

Reminisce in the original Bioshock launch trailer below, and let us know if you plan to replay the titles!

Briefly: If I hadn’t already been drawn back into Pokémon Go with the launch of the revised tracker a few weeks back… this would have had me opening the app up again.

Pokemon Go developer Niantic today announced that players are about to see a few new Pokémon in the game, beginning with classics such as Togepi and Pichu (a special holiday-themed Pikachu has also been spotted).

You won’t see these Pokémon popping up during your travels, however. Togepi, Pichu, and whatever else may be out there can only be hatched from eggs at this time. This means that players will need to visit Pokéstops, get those eggs incubating (and probably purchase additional incubators for efficiency’s sake), and be super disappointed when they mostly hatch Pokémon that they already have.

In any case, I’m excited as hell.

Niantic notes that “Professor Willow has discovered Togepi and Pichu hatching from Eggs! Starting later today, Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months.”

After the buddy system, tracker improvements (though still a step back from the original tracker), daily bonuses, the ability to transfer multiple Pokémon to the professor at once, and now this, it’s pretty clear that Niantic is really beginning to lister to player feedback.

Now… time to get walking.

Briefly: We’re finally just a week away from a the start of a new season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and after the company revealed last week that the season would launch with a two episode premiere, the official launch trailer has just been released.

It’s bound to be a heart-wrenching, tear-jerking few hours, and I can’t freaking wait to get my hands on it. Regulars around these parts may remember that the game’s first season is one of my favourite titles of all time, and it’s been way, way too long since I’ve been able to catch up with Clementine.

For now, we’ll have to watch the game’s gorgeous launch trailer below, and speculate as to what may happen when we meet Javier on December 20th.

Briefly: I’ve been pretty vocal about my distaste for the Transformers film series over the past few years (tl:dr – huge fan of the cartoon and comic books, severely let down by the first film, and never watched another), so with the release of the first teaser for next Summer’s Transformers: The Last Knight, I have a lot of questions about what this series has become.

Here are a few examples:

-Why is Optimus Prime dead?
-How can humans still be fighting Transformers after five movies?
-Why does this trailer start way, way, way back in the past?
-How did this film get Anthony Hopkins on board?
-As someone who’s only seen the first film… are any of these movies worth watching?

Again, that’s not a conclusive list based on this pretty confusing trailer. Aside from not making any sense to me, I thought that the trailer had some epic moments, and some fantastic effects.

Someone should definitely answer my questions in the comments below, and everyone else can take a look at the first teaser! Transformers: The Last Knight hits theatres on June 23rd!

Briefly: Always forward.

Finally, after way, way too long a wait, Netflix has confirmed that Luke Cage will be receiving a second season.

Naturally, Netflix didn’t reveal just when we’ll be able to watch the next set of episodes, but I’d imagine it’ll be quite some time, seeing as we still have The DefendersIron Fist, and more Jessica Jones to get through first.

For now, take a look at the reveal teaser below, and we’ll be sure to share more as soon as the news comes in.

Briefly: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is finally here.

I’m finished watching trailers for the film, as I’d like to go in as fresh and out-of-the-loop as possible, but I definitely just took a look at this featurette, in which director Gareth Edwards and Creature Effects Supervisor Neal Scanlan offer a behind-the-scenes peek at the creatures.

These are some incredible creatures, and we are so freaking excited for Rogue One.

You can take a look at the featurette below, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see on December 16th!

Briefly: Welcome to a new world of Gods and Monsters.

Universal has just debuted the very first trailer for the long-awaited reboot of The Mummy, and boy does it look action packed (with some gorgeous effects to boot).

In the film, “Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.”

Yeah… the baddie sort of sounds similar to X-Men: Apocalypse and Suicide Squad (and numerous films before that), but this looks like it could be a pretty neat start to Universal’s planned cinematic universe (since Dracula Untold… didn’t count).

For now, take a look at the first trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think! The Mummy hits theatres June 9th, 2017!

Briefly: I can’t even…

At last night’s fantastic The Game Awards, we witnessed many emotional moments, were surprised by many of the award recipients, and saw some World Premiere trailers for a multitude of incredible looking titles (like Prey, oh man Prey).

The biggest surprise of all? For me, it wasn’t Uncharted 4 not taking home GOTY (I could hear Shane cheering all the way from Canada), That Dragon, Cancer taking home the Games For Change award, or the incredible gameplay reveal for Mass Effect: Andromedait’s the fact that Telltale is breaking their tried and true mould by releasing two episodes of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, on December 20th.

The fantastic (heart-wrenching) trailer introduced us to our new hero, Javier, and just how he and Clementine came to meet. Telltale simply noted that this tale’s opening was simply too large for one episode, so when A New Frontier premieres on December 20th, we’ll have twice as much content to play.

Telltale’s The Walking Dead is among my favourite game series’ of all time, so you better believe I’ll be jumping right into this one.

For now, you’ll have watch (and re-watch) the first look below, but I’d love to hear what your favourite moment in the series has been thus far.

Briefly: I haven’t spent all that much time with EA/DICE’ Star Wars Battlefront at this point. The high price, and limited content that the game originally launched with had me skip the purchase after my EA Access trial ran out.

With the game coming to the EA Access Vault in December, however, I could definitely see myself playing the game again, and definitely picking up this upcoming DLC.

EA has just debuted the official trailer for Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: Scarif (what a title), which will let players “Battle across four new maps on the tropical planet of Scarif. Play as two new heroes Jyn Erso and Orson Krennic, and blast opponents in a brand new multi-stage game mode with new weapons and Star Cards,” and it looks so freaking neat.

For now, you’ll have to watch the trailer, while Season Pass holders can play the new content on December 6th. Those looking to purchase it separately, however, will be waiting until December 20th.

Briefly: Incredible.

Yeah, every new Pokémon game is super popular. I certainly saw a resurgence in the popularity of the brand this Summer with the launch of Pokémon GO, in that a multitude of people who seemingly had no interest in Pokémon were suddenly obsessed with it.

Apparently that obsession carried over to the latest titles in the main series, because Pokémon Sun and Moon are breaking some major records in the Americas.

Nintendo today revealed that after becoming the most pre-ordered games in Nintendo history (worldwide), the games have now become Nintendo’s fastest selling games of all-time, selling a combined 3.7 million copies in just two weeks. As Ninty notes, this is an 85% increased on the previous record holder during the same period, which was naturally Pokémon X and Y.

Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director notes that “With these huge sales figures, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moonhave proven themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season. With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pokémon series are sure to please any player in the family.”

I haven’t yet had an opportunity to pick the game up, but I can’t freaking wait to see what the Alola region has in store for me. What have you thought of Pokémon Sun and Moon so far?

Briefly: Fans, you can stop asking now.

After what seems like countless rumours, and a multitude of forum threads on every website in history, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is now backwards compatible on the Xbox One.

The game is even already featured in the ‘Fan Favourites’ section on the official Backwards Compatibility page, and for good reason, seeing as Oblivion was one of the most celebrated titles on the Xbox 360.

As someone who just started playing Skyrim for the first time with the recently released special edition, and who has just become addicted to The Elder Scrolls Online after the just-concluded free weekend, I don’t think that I’ll be getting to this one any time soon, but boy did I wait too, too long to get into The Elder Scrolls.

Are you excited for a replay? What’s your favourite game in the series? Be sure to sound out in the comments below.

Briefly: As a gamer who typically owns thin, light, and not overly powerful mobile computers, back in the early 2010’s I was a huge proponent of OnLive, which was an ahead-of-its-time cloud-based gaming service that would simply stream games over your internet connection.

This meant that I could play games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution on a device that could otherwise never run it, on a platform that wasn’t even supported. OnLive also offered something called a ‘PlayPass’, an inexpensive monthly subscription that would allow you unlimited streaming of dozens upon dozens of indie and big-budget titles, a strategy that you can see emulated today in services like Playstation NOW.

Today, Angry Birds creators Rovio revealed Hatch, a new cloud-based gaming platform coming to Android devices in 2017. The company’s vision for the platform is “an instant game collection on demand, carefully curated to provide the highest quality gaming experiences, from arcade classics to modern masterpieces,” and based on the already announced titles, this is already a service that I’m interested in.

“It’s not just about playing games, it’s about sharing new experiences with the people in your life,” says Hatch Founder and CEO Juhani Honkala. “Hatch represents a new social frontier and a new beginning for mobile games. We are soft launching in 2017 for Android users, but ultimately our intention is to bring Hatch to other platforms such as iOS as well. Our mission is to bring everyone together over the games they love.”

As an iOS user… that ultimate intention can’t happen soon enough.

The company notes that they’ve secured early partners such as BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America, TAITO Corporation, and Ubisoft Mobile, and already announced games include some of the best mobile titles available today, such as adland, Broken Age, Cut the Rope 2, Dokuro, The King of Fighters ‘98, Leo’s Fortune, Monument Valley, Pac-Man CE DX, Rayman Fiesta Run, République and Space Invaders Infinity Gene.

Hatch is set to soft launch on Android in the first half of 2017, and is definitely a company and platform that I’ll be following. I’ve missed OnLive dearly over these past few years (especially as they shut down shortly before releasing an iPad-optimized player), and as cloud gaming is something near and dear to my heart, I’d love to see this become successful.

Have you every used anything like OnLive or Playstation NOW? Are you open to the idea of a mobile version? Sound out below!

Briefly: I’m unbelievably excited (and terrified) for this, and it’s something I’d never have expected.

After what seems like years of silence, Andreas Wulfila, developer of classic iOS gem Tiny Wings has just revealed that in just a few days time the simple, adorable, laughably simply, scarily addicting one buttoner will be hitting a new platform: tvOS on the fourth generation Apple TV.

I don’t know that I’ve ever been as addicted to another mobile title as I (along with many of my close friends) became to Tiny Wings. I can recall countless nights of groups of friends sitting around, playing their individual games, screaming with frustration when they failed, missed a goal, or messed up a run, and screaming with joy when they’d beat one another’s score. A single player game at heart, it’s one of the few titles that I ever became truly competitive with, which was pretty easy to do using iOS GamevCenter and its challenges.

The tvOS version was announced with a super cute trailer, and Andreas also revealed that the Apple TV version of the game will support split-screen multiplayer with the Siri Remote or with a combination of Siri Remote and MFi controller, and that the Tiny Wings iOS app will also let you use your iOS device as a controller.

I can’t freaking wait.

For now, take a look at the trailer below, get practicing on your iOS device, and let me know the most addicting mobile game you’ve ever played (I’m always looking for new titles)!

Briefly: It’s finally here.

After more than a decade, an entire console generation, a name change, delays, and countless world events, the long awaited Final Fantasy XV is finally here.

To celebrate (and probably sell me a copy of the game), Square-Enix today debuted the Final Fantasy XV launch trailer, titled ‘Ride Together’.

The trailer mostly features footage that we’ve already seen, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t a unit seller. It shows off Square-Enix’ always incredible cutscenes, and features a fantastic soundtrack that I definitely just added to my Apple Music library.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what your hopes for Final Fantasy XV are in the comments below! Final Fantasy XV is available now for PS4 and Xbox One.

Briefly: First released all the way back in 2011, The Binding of Isaac is probably one of the toughest games that I’ve played in recent memory (but maybe I just stink at it). I really can’t imagine how it would feel to play the game without physical buttons, but… The Binding of Isaac is coming to iOS before the end of the year.

We’ve known that the port of the game has been coming for awhile, but the official The Binding of Isaac blog today noted that the game is in the final stages of beta testing, and also noted a little of what patiently waiting gamers can expect from the iOS version:

In case you missed the previous update on it (and you’re too lazy to scroll down), here’s what you can expect in the iOS version: – Universal binary (buy it once, and download for free on iPad or vice verse)- iCloud save support, upload and download your save data between devices- MFi controller support–Apple’s licensed bluetooth iOS standard (also compatible with Apple TV- Landscape and portrait orientations- A bunch of other little features to make the iOS experience good. We’re in the final phase of beta testing. I’ll be opening up beta testing to a lot more people and not just David Parkour.

I’m super excited for this port, and I’m really happy to hear of some of the features that Nicalis is including in the title. MFi support means that you’re not stuck using only touchscreen buttons, and the iCloud Save support means that you’re not stuck running separate saves between devices. Super cool.

Are you looking forward to the mobile edition of the game? Be sure to sound out in the comments below!

Briefly: I’ve been excited for the idea of Riverdale since it was first announced. Today, The CW debuted the very first teaser for the midseason drama, which is set to premiere on January 26th… and while the teaser looks very CW-like, it doesn’t look all that Archie-like.

The series looks interesting enough, and based on the official synopsis (below) sounds like a fun, popcorn murder mystery, but after thoroughly enjoying Mark Waid and Fiona Staples’ recent Archie series, I can’t help but want more from this.

Then again, I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Take a look at the teaser below, read the synopsis, and be sure to let us know what you think!

https://youtu.be/uISW88bFaxs

Briefly: It’s finally happened.

Nope. Still no work on Half-Life 3, but something equally overdue: Hello Games has finally spoken up about No Man’s Sky.

Sure, it’s at a point when everyone has let go of that $80 purchase and long moved on from the game, but… better late than never? I know that the game is still sitting on my shelf, and if something drastic happened to its foundations, I could definitely see myself popping that disc in again.

In the company’s first blog post since early September, Hello Games has teased that a ‘Foundation Update’ is incoming. Here’s the post in full:

Hello,

This week Hello Games will be releasing an update to No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it The Foundation Update, because we have added the foundations of base building, and also because this is putting in place a foundation for things to come.

Detailed patch notes will follow, and release will be soon.

Coming from five years of intense development, immediately after No Man’s Sky released the team spent six weeks updating the game with 7 patches across both platforms (the last of these was 1.09 on Sept 24th which you can read about here http://www.no-mans-sky.com/log/). These fixed many of the most common or critical bugs and issues post-release.

In the nine weeks since then our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for the Foundation Update. It won’t be our biggest update, but it is the start of something.

The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.

Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.

This update will be the first small step in a longer journey. We hope you can join us.

Thank you,

Hello Games

“It is the start of something.” Let’s hope so.

When’s the last time you played No Man’s Sky? What would it take to bring you back to its procedurally generated world?
