When gamers thought of the first original Legend of Zelda coming to the Wii U, it was safe to assume that it was the big project that was teased a few E3’s ago. The last thing that anyone expected was a Koei Tecmo developed hack and slash, but I’d be lying if I said that the reveal of Hyrule Warriors wasn’t a welcomed surprised.

Taking place in the Zelda universe with the army wrecking action of the long running Dynasty Warriors franchise, Hyrule Warriors shows off Link in a way we’ve never seen him before. Huge, sweeping attacks that hit hundreds of enemies at once, rapid fire bombs, using the fire rod to wipe out surrounding hoards… this is a battle ready Link that fits perfectly within the new game play style.

Seemingly borrowing a visual style similar to Skyward Sword with locales and enemies pulled from games like Ocarina of Time, it looks like Warriors is looking to be a love letter to longtime fans. What’s yet to be seen is whether or not characters other than Link will be playable. Knowing how Dynasty Warriors is famous for dozens of characters to use, don’t be surprised of other series favorites make an appearance.

I love the Zelda franchise, but I’ve always felt like DW was too repetitive for my tastes. With Hyrule Warriors though, it looks like it’s the best chance to breathe fresh life into both franchises and finally bring those like me into the Koei Tecmo fold.

Check out Link in action in the game’s reveal trailer! Hyrule Warriors will get its release, (and a new name,) in 2014.

When The Division was announced at Ubisofts E3 press conference, it immediately won my heart. It portrayed a post apocalyptic future that wasn’t all icky with zombies. A Third-Person MMO of sorts, The Division would put players in the rolls of special agents sent into Cities ravaged by disease, in the attempt to maintain order. Ubisoft’s premiere trailer was all but amazing, and now they’ve amazed me AGAIN! They have just released this trailer demoing their newest game engine, “Snowdrop”, and how it will work inside The Division.

Not set to be released until LATE 2014, this is the PS4 killer title…even if you can grab it on the PC and Xbox One.

Just the other day, famous World of Warcraft Live Streamer, Swifty, was arrested live during his broadcast!

Reports are thin and vague, but from what this Scapist was able to gather, a prank caller had called the police TWICE on Swifty. The second time he was accused of threatening someone with a knife, which the police are required to investigate. He was then taken away to the police station to file a report. Take a watch!

He is already back home, and it turns out the police may not have arrested him after all. We are still gathering facts. Viewers of his live stream have said on Reddit that he had a few pizzas at his house earlier that day as well. Someone is about to get in a lot of trouble!

With Battlefield 4 released less than a month ago, players were expecting the first expansion (China Rising) to ship out sometime in December. Well it looks like DICE got a little bit antsy and thought to themselves: “Hey! Let’s put out the second expansion first!”. So with that we got ourselves a trailer for the Second planned expansion, which is being released first. Check out Second Assault

This expansion features four BF3 maps retooled on the Frostbite 3 engine (Metro, Caspian Border, Operation Firestorm and Gulf of Oman). Players will also get their hands on five remastered weapons, 10 new assignments and the return of the Dune Buggy vehicle! You will be able to show off all these new goodies with the return of the classic Capture the Flag gametype.

You can get your hands on Second Assault NOVEMBER 22nd! There is ONE caveat though. And XBOX ONE caveat. It will ship out to BF4: Premium accounts on the 22nd, then December 2nd for regular BF4 players on Xbox One. There is no release date for when the PS3, PS4 or the PC versions will get their hands on it. Be sure to stay tuned to your Battlelog feed for more details!

Another edition of Nintendo Direct has come and gone, and as promised, we left with a ton of new details on numerous 3DS titles. From Zelda, to Layton and Mario’s latest party, handheld owners will have their hands full within the coming months. With that said, the Wii U got a few bones thrown at it as well! Without further ado, here are the highlights from this morning’s conference Be warned: some of the content below contains spoilers.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has a new trailer! If you weren’t hyped enough, new details about new characters like Irene the witch, (who is essentially used for fast travel,) and Seres, (essentially the game’s Zelda replacement,) were shown, as well as Zora Flippers, which allow Link to swim.

– Zelda Street Pass functionality was revealed and it sounds really awesome! Players will create their own Shadow Link, complete with an item loadout and a set amount of hearts. The stronger the Link, the higher the bounty, which will be awarded to others who can find the shadow on the map and take him down.

Mario Party Island Tour is also coming on November 22nd and allows download play for all seven of the game’s boards! Street Pass was also detailed, letting players compete in mini games against up to 10 ghost Mii’s. If you’re more of a loner, a single player “Bowser’s Tower” will have us competing in 30 floors worth of games, each one getting progressively harder until the boss fights that take place once every five floors.

Bravely Default features a wide variety of customization for the in game party, including abilities, jobs, spells and appearances. Some new mechanics include the Default System, a defensive stance that builds Brave Points that can be used to unleash powerful attacks when switched to the Brave System,  Sleep Points, which can be built up using a time stopping ability or while the system is in sleep mode, than can be exchanged for more powerful moves, and Street Pass, which brings other characters into battles to aid you, (if they’re not chosen to help rebuild your town.)

Bravely Default is releasing on February 7th, complete with a collectors edition. This contains the game, a set of AR cards, a soundtrack and an art book. Pricing has yet to be announced.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy will close out the second, (and presumably last,) Layton trilogy when it arrives on the 3DS on February 28th. It’ll be fun to see Layton, Luke an Emmy’s final adventure through, but I can’t say I’m ready to say goodbye to the professor. At least we have the Phoenix Wright crossover to look forward to!

– Nintendo Zone locations will be distributing the (formerly,) exclusive Best Buy Animal Crossing: New Leaf items throughout November, as well as a special item block for Super Mario 3D Land. Contents are unknown, but it might be worth checking out the next time you’re at a Starbucks.

– Possibly the biggest news of the day, a December system update will allow Wii U and 3DS currency to be combined. So if you have $5 burning a hole in your Wii U wallet, transfer it over to the 3DS! Because if this presentation has taught me anything, it’s that the 3DS has way more content to use it on.

– Miiverse support will also be added along with this update, so now you’ll be able to take your awkward screenshots and witty commentary with you, assuming you can access the Internet of course.

– Other updates include YouTube on the handheld and an upgraded YouTube app for Wii U, both of which will be available later this month.

– Finally, we shift to the Wii U. In addition to the two packs already released, Pikmin 3 will receive a third wave of downloadable content. Unlike the previous downloads, which were made up of remixed stages from the on disc story and mission content, this wave contains all new stages not found anywhere else in the game. Taking Olimar to stages like construction sites, the inside of homes, beaches and factories, the first Pikmin protagonist will be tasked with finding Louie on the map, who will then be playable, allowing them to take on multiple tasks at once.

Pikmin 3 DLC 3

– The DLC will be released on December 2nd and consist of eight total stages. These four treasure stages and four battle stages didn’t have a price tag attached to them, but one of each type will be free to all players who download the update for the content, both of which take place in the “Fortress of Festivity.”

– The Animal Crossing Plaza is getting a slew of updates! 50 Miiverse stamps are being added, so those who can’t draw to save their life, (like me,) can post decent pictures of the cast. Polls are also being introduced, letting the community vote on such important issues as, “who is the best secretary?” or, “who is the neighbor of the year?” Considering the game has only one secretary, I’m expecting a landslide. The update will go live later this evening.

– Future updates will include resident registration, so you can keep track of who is in your in game town, a function allowing Miiverse posts to be saved in the photo album and the ability to move and delete multiple photos at once. When they will be available is unknown, but I’d guess 2014 since that’s when the app is scheduled to go down.

– An indie game sizzle reel showed off a ton of content, including 1001 Spikes, Jett Rocket 2, the new Shantae and Retro City Rampage for the 3DS. You can check out the video showing off all of the indie game goodness below.

– And finally, we have 10 new things in Super Mario 3D World. From bonus modes to kart themed stages and 3D puzzles, it seems like the game will feature a ton of content we were never expecting, including one big reveal that I won’t post here. Watch the trailer below if you’re feeling adventurous, but trust me when I say it’s a great reason to get excited.

And… that’s about it? What news was the most exciting part for you all? I know I’m hyped about 3D World more than ever, but even games like Mario Party and Zelda, which I was planning on waiting on, sound hard to resist. But I’ve talked enough. Sound off and let us know what Nintendo content you’re most excited about leading into 2014!

Remember the Pokerap? The song that would play at the end of the original Pokemon episodes? If not, it was a rap that was divided into five parts and ran through the week, brainwashing kids like me into watching throughout the week. I mean the rap was the holy grail of middle school nerds at the time. Knowing it from beginning to end meant that you traded in your dignity for a bit of nerd respect, so each and every day you were shoved into a trash can by the so called “cool” kids, you could at least waddle away knowing that you knew the Pokerap. And you were awesome!

The only problem was that memorizing 150 very strange name in a rhythmic manner felt like a near impossible task. Only the most dedicated Pokemon masters could accomplish such a feat, and if you did all those years ago, chances are you still remember it along side important milestones in life, like your first kiss, first job or first time you caught a shiny. I know I do!

Thankfully, the song was phased out long before the second set of monsters debut. Fast forward to today, and we have 718 different Mon’s to catch, making it seemingly impossible to recreate this magic today. Emphasis on the seemingly…

Thanks to the guys over at CollegeHumor, this impossibility has become a reality. Surely made by some passionate fans, (or guys with too much time on their hands,) a complete Pokerap exists for fans old and new. That’s almost 10 minutes of Pokemon names that go on… and on… and on… Okay, maybe it’s not such a good idea to bring it back, but it sure is awesome. And yeah, some of the names are grossly mispronounced, but YOU try rhyming that many names to that rhythm? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Check out the video below. I DARE you to watch it all in one sitting. I did, and my head is still spinning. While I might never be cool enough to memorize this rendition, at least I got through it! Hope you have as much fun watching as I did, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Pokemon fans around the world were greeted with a surprise this morning. A quick search over at the iTunes store shows that the entire Pokemon X and Y soundtrack is available for purchase for a modest $9.99. Consisting of 202 tracks straight from the game with an additional ten tracks from the Pokemon Origins series, a couple of hundred tracks for the price of a couple of Starbucks drinks isn’t bad at all, especially when the soundtrack is so freaking great!

Typically, we’re lucky to see game soundtracks released on our side of the world, and usually have to resort to importing or downloading to get our game music fix. In line with the latest game’s first ever simultaneous worldwide launch, this is the first time a soundtrack from the franchise has been available for purchase around the world. Sure, it’s not a boxed version, but beggars can’t be choosers, now can they?

The Pokemon X and Y official soundtrack is available for purchase now, with Origins making its English debut on the free Pokemon TV app this Friday, so make sure to swoop it up while you’re at it.

Briefly: This morning, Nintendo announced that a new Nintendo Direct will take place tomorrow at 8AM Pacific time focusing 3DS titles through early 2014.

With the newest Zelda game, A Link Between Worlds, a new Mario Party, Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Transfer right around the corner, let’s hope we’ll get some exciting information on the handheld’s lineup leading up to 2014. With that said, I’m cautiously optimistic for some exciting surprises to take us into the new year.

While I’m not surprised that Nintendo is releasing new info on the eve of the PS4 and Xbox One launches, I’m surprised that they’re not teasing any last minute details on the Wii U. The 3DS lineup is fairly well known, and the Wii U would do well to have even a fraction of the user base its handheld counterpart has. Between the two, the 3DS is definitely not the one that needs holiday hype specifically dedicated towards it.

Oh well, hopefully we’ll end up with some great news nonetheless. Check back tomorrow morning with all of the details and let us know what you’re hoping to see in the comments!

Buzz has been flying around about the new Diablo III expansion, “Reaper of Souls.” RoS will feature a new player class–the Crusader, a new level cap of 70, additional spells and abilities for each of the original classes, and a ‘fewer but better’ loot system and the introduction of Legendaries.

Players will also be able to update their toon’s appearance with the help of the new artisan, the Mystic, take on Bounties for objective-based challenges, and explore all the zone in Adventure Mode, where all the waypoints unlock.

Ten to twenty minute dungeons called Loot Runs will test player’s skills and an innovative social system, Clans and Groups, will allow players to connect in new and exciting ways.

Find more information on Diablo III here, and check back here (and follow us on twitter–@sjbwrite) for all the latest updates and breaking news.

But for now, check out the trailer below:

Straight out of BlizzCon we got our first big announcement of the convention. World of Warcraft is getting ANOTHER expansion pack. This time we go back to Draenor the home of the Orcs, with a bunch of nice new features to boot! Take a look at the trailer below!

This new edition if rife with new features. The most noticeable one is that all the original races will be getting updated and upgraded character models. New animations and high def textures are just the beginning. The level cap has been pushed up to 100, with the ability to start new characters at 90 so you can fast track to the top.

The biggest gameplay mechanic that has been added is the Garrisons. Players will be able to build and upgrade a home base of sorts. Setting up trade routes, building up the economy and defenses are some of the things you get to do with your own private fort. Think Warcraft III kind of stuff.

No release date yet, but if you’re an intrepid WoW fan you will be on top of this release!

Probably the best launch title for the Xbox One, Dead Rising 3 looks to be the perfect combination of the wackiness we’ve come to know from the series, and a more serious zombie disaster. Well the guys over at IGN got to play the first 25 minutes of the game, and they were kind enough to record it and put it up on YouTube! Check it out wont ya?

You can get your hands on Dead Rising 3 AT LAUNCH! November 22nd!

This morning, the folks over at smashbros.com treated us with the unexpected reveal of Marth, the main protagonist of the original Fire Emblem game in Japan. The blue haired, sword wielding pretty boy is the newest veteran to officially make his return, which caught some like myself off guard since most of the reveals have coincided with either a game’s release, or big news associated with the character, (like the Sonic: Lost World launch.)

After over a month without a significant new reveal, I have to say that Marth is making a welcomed return. Considering that the prince and his series as a whole came to achieve international attention specifically because of his Smash Bros. Melee appearance, it would feel weird at this point to release the game without him in it. Part of me was expecting him to get replaced by his Fire Emblem: Awakening counterpart, but with him now official, we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see if the smash 3DS hit will get any representation outside of a stage. Either way, his immense attractiveness combined with the difficult task of figuring out his gender will surely continue to excite and confuse all who cross his path.

Until then, check out the screenshots released by Nintendo and see Marth in action, (when he’s not seducing Peach.) As always, check back with Geekscape as more Smash Bros. news becomes available.

In the vain of such classic video games such as Night Trap, and Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties, Leo Mark Studios has released MovieMaze: The Mechanic for iOS and Android platforms. What’s described as “an interactive film in which you get to pick different storylines,” The Mechanic can be described as a choose your own adventure book, only with video.

The Mechanic stars the very subtly named Indeep Sheet, who arrived from the Mumbai Car Academy and must deliver a car without being brutally maimed. Seemingly very crude, the title is sure to take us back to a simpler time when full motion video was all the rage.

Free for a limited time, those with some gigs to burn might want to check out the game for their mobile device. Watch the trailer below and take a gander at www.leomarkstudios.com for more information.

Comikaze had a schedule full of of panels this year, but few were as exciting as the Grand Theft Auto V voice actor panel. Joined by Ned Luke, (Michael) Shawn Fonteno, (Franklin) Steven Ogg, (Trevor) Danny Tamberelli, (Jimmy) and Slink Johnson, (Lamar) the fans were sure to get a wild time, especially if their time in the game was any indication.

Below are the highlights of the conversation:

– Most, (if not all,) of the game was shot in front of a green screen with the actors playing their roles in front of the camera like a traditional movie, aside from the skin tight mocap suits covered in balls that they were forced to wear. The way the characters moved were all how the actors moved, from walking, running and riding the bikes, making them feel more realistic. I think was a good payoff despite being smothered in balls from head to toe. Did I mention they were playing with balls? (This was a major part of the panel.)

GTA V Panel 2The cast of GTA V wearing a significant lack of balls.

-On the subject of mocap, the mission where Michael and Jimmy have to ride their bikes together was shot with the actors riding side by side. The directors asked them to ride as fast as possible up until a certain point. Riding fast in  a small room? Not a good idea. Danny and Ned had to shoot that over 70 times to get it right, all without accidentally killing themselves.

– The cast was forced to sign non-disclosure agreements when they were hired for their roles. That’s typical for such a big project, but the contract didn’t say what they were working on, and they wouldn’t find out until much later. Steven didn’t realize how big it was since he doesn’t game. Since Danny is a big gamer, he knew the only projects Rockstar were working on were Max Payne 3 and GTAV, so he figured at the time of signing that it had to be GTA. Ned and Shawn were excited, but none of them could touch Slink.

– Both Shawn and Slink were former gang members, but Slink in particular seemed so humble to be apart of this project, mentioning that  the idea that someone who used to run the streets ended up at this point, he couldn’t stop thanking the fans who helped the game become the success that it is. Or as he repeatedly put it, “thank mothafuckin’ ya’ll!”

– Shawn’s real life cousin is Young Maylay, the voice actor of CJ from San Andreas. The fact that they’re both from Los Santos near the same area that Grove Street used to rule, it’s strange to think that this ended up being purely coincidental. If you’re hoping for a meeting between the two protagonists, they’re in the process of working on a mixtape together. Shawn let hints of the rumored CJ DLC drop a few times, but of course, nothing is confirmed yet.

– Ned and Shawn had apparently met years before, but not in the way you might think. When arriving on set, Ned said he swore he recognized Shawn from somewhere. As it turns out, Shawn *may* have robbed Ned during the LA riots in the early 90’s. Considering how Franklin and Michael formally meet when Frank tries to steal a car from Michael’s house, and we have a case of fiction mimicking reality.

GTA V Panel 3It’s clear that these guys had too much fun working together.

– The cast had to ad lib the majority of the script to make it sound more natural. While the script writers put together a fantastic stories that earned the praise of everyone on the panel, their British background  made relating to hood life as let’s say… a bit of a challenge. Over time, dialogue that started off as, “hey mate, let’s go chat for a bit,” turned into, “sup, dawg. What’s goin’ down?” Although I won’t lie, I’d pay for a redone version with the original dialogue, just to see how Los Santos would be with a splash of Downtown Abbey.

-Speaking of the script, this thing was a monster. Ned mentioned that it had to have been at least 3500 pages of dialogue. With that said, the ad libs and the crew getting to know the actors led to a perfect blend between who the characters were written to be and who the actors really are through their individual personalities. As Ned put it, “They wrote us.”

-3500 pages was a hell of a task, which is probably why Slink didn’t bother reading it. While the actors got together and went over their lines, Slink could usually be found off to the side sleeping somewhere. With that said, every time the cameras started rolling, he knew EXACTLY what to say and really made Lamar his own. I thought his dialogue was some of the most realistic, so I can see why.

– The actors apparently like messing with people online. One time, Ned noticed someone who may or may not have been named DenzelKid getting killed repeatedly. Later, Ned hid in his car and had a father-like talk that only Michael could give. To paraphrase, “I see you getting killed a lot out there. What the hell are you doing?” DenzelKid apparently recognized his voice and muttered, “Is this… Is this Franklin!?” From then on, Ned rode with him, helped him through the game and bought him a car that hopefully won’t get repossessed. Hopefully he appreciated this more than Jimmy ever did.

GTA V Panel 1Trevor being Trevor.

-Lamar on the other hand, is treated like a minor celebrity online. Both on the street and in GTA Online, people are constantly thanking him for picking them up from the airport. A thank you is the least of what he deserves. Picking up millions of people worldwide is hard work!

– That’s not to say being recognized online is a good thing. Ned keeps getting hits put on him by some guy named AddPrices. He gave us permission to hunt him down for messing with Mr. De Santa. If you see this guy, have at it!

– And lastly, working with Lazlow was great, especially when tattooing a penis on his chest.

I didn’t follow the game all that closely, so seeing how much went into the development of the acting portion alone was beyond impressive. One thing that was apparent from watching these five interact however, was how much fun they had making the game and how close they became throughout the three year process of making one of the most successful games of all time. The chemistry shined on stage and showed how five people from different countries, generations and backgrounds could meld so well, which was a big part of why GTAV‘s story was such a blast to experience.

Beyond GTA, you can catch Shawn working on his new clothing line, Rich Rotten, and a few film projects, not to mention the previously mentioned collaboration with CJ. Follow him on Twitter @Shawn_Fonteno.

Steven is heading to Toronto to work on a film with Henry Rollins, (Rollins and Trevor in one place? Toronto… your days are numbered!) From there, it’s off to Portland to film A Time to Kill. Then, it’s  The Neck. Ogg’s a busy guy! Keep up with him @StevenOgg.

Danny can be found at manboobscomedy.com and with his former Pete and Pete costar Mike Maronna on the Adventures of Danny and Mike podcast. To think that fat piece of vulgar crap in GTA was the same guy who helped me figure it out as a kid. Stalk him @dtamberelli.

Slink has a ton in the pipeline too, including Black Jesus on Adult Swim, Community Service, a sitcom that just wrapped up its pilot and is currently seeking a network, and performing stand up at The Comedy Store in LA. Otherwise, you can still catch him @Slinkybaby and on the streets of Normandie and Florance.

And Ned… Ned is doing what he does best. Being a husband and father. When not being a family man, follow him @ned_luke.

3DS fans across the Internet were outraged last week when Nintendo suddenly discontinued its popular Swapnote service, citing “offensive material” as the reason for their actions. Acting as a tool to send messages, drawings and pictures to friends through their handhelds, it seemed like many were in agreement that this knee jerk reaction was either Nintendo being Nintendo and overreacting to a potential threat, (which is why friend codes are still used as a way to make it harder for strangers to communicate,) or that something went really, really wrong when it came to how the service was used. Unfortunately, it seems to have been the latter.

Yomiuri Online, an Internet news site, is reporting that two men were arrested for performing “improper acts” with a 12 year old girl early this year. The girl met both men through her 3DS, and the Japanese newspaper Mainichi News is suggesting that Swapnote was involved at some point.

Unfortunately, that’s not all there is to the story. Mainichi, also reported that a man is said to have confessed to receiving nude photos from two girls, age 12 and 13 respectively, at the time of the incidents. Child pornography charges have reportedly been filed in regards to this incident.

Nintendo has yet to officially comment on the controversy specifically, still only citing “offensive material” as the reason for the service to be pulled, but the situation had to involve something big for them to shut down the service worldwide as suddenly as they did. Assuming the above stories are true, it’s a shame that we all have to suffer for the actions of a few perverts in Japan. But then again, fears of these types of actions are partially why Nintendo has shied away from a traditional online experience. When incidents like these take place, it’s not hard to see why.

This morning, Nintendo announced that the latest batch of Pikmin 3 DLC is available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop. Adding four maps consisting of areas from the game’s story mode, these missions have been added to the “Battle Enemies” section of challenge mode.

As with the last set of content, the maps can be played both alone or cooperatively, where would-be astronauts will lead their army of Pikmin to take out as many predators within a certain time limit. One of the maps will be released for free with the latest update for the game, whereas the rest can be purchased together for the low low price of $1.99 if the first taste keeps you wanting more. All and all, I think it’s a pretty good deal.

Pikmin 3 DLC 2New and old enemies alike seem to be making an appearance.

I was worried when Nintendo stepped into the realm of DLC, but considering the way they’ve been handling it, (low prices, mostly unique content and usually developed post release,) I have to admit that these updates are a welcomed surprise. I mean four maps for two dollars? That’s better than horse armor, that’s for sure.

Will you be picking up this latest set of content for one of the best games on the Wii U? Let us know in the comments below!

Apps are quickly becoming a huge staple of the gaming industry. With more and more apps breaking away from mobile devices and finding their way onto consoles, app developers have a lot of importance on the future of the gaming industry. Being intrigued by this, I decided to contact an app company for an interview to better understand how apps are made and how they will affect gaming in the future. I chose to get in touch with Metaversal Studios. Being a company that continuously creates popular, witty games for both iOS and Android, they seemed like a good choice. Matt Sughrue, VP of Product Development, was nice enough to give me his time to answer a few questions.

Geekscape: So, Matt, tell me about yourself.

Matt Sughrue: I started working in the game industry in 1992. Prior to that I worked in marketing and advertising in the computer business, but I’ve been a gamer since there were games to play and wanted very badly to make games. When I saw an ad in the Boston Globe for a game designer position at a small developer called Animation Magic, I went for it. I had zero qualifications other than good writing skills, boundless enthusiasm and rugged good looks. They hired me anyway, although it was as Marketing Director, not designer. I spent six months in that role before moving into design. Since we were so small (half a dozen developers in Boston), all of our roles overlapped and I was able to learn the ins and outs of game development by actually doing the work.

http://youtu.be/gcJPfb1GI3U

I loved being a designer and made a half dozen PC games, mostly for kids, during my first few years at the company. Animation Magic grew considerably during my time there, up to about a dozen people in Boston and 150 artists and animators at our studio in St. Petersburg, Russia. I had the opportunity to travel to Russia many times over the next 8 years and work with some extraordinarily talented people there.

As we grew, we had a need for someone to manage the client relationships and fill the producer role, so I shifted gears and became first a producer, then production director, then executive producer for the company. By the time we were purchased by Davidson & Associates (who had also purchased Sierra Online and Blizzard around the same time), our studio was developing multiple titles for multiple clients non-stop. It was kind of crazy, but I learned a lot about implementing best practices, juggling priorities and the importance of good planning.

After Animation Magic, I served as General Manager for Papyrus Design Group, the top PC racing simulation developer at the time, then went a social MMO startup that never got off the ground due to a lack of funding.

Over the next ten years I worked for developers and publishers running projects, teams and business units making games across just about every platform, from GBA to PS3.

I joined Metaversal Studios in 2010 as VP of Product Development, and have been here ever since.

SJM5k-Web-Banner

Geekscape: Impressive! Could you tell me about Metaversal Studios?

Matt Sughrue: Metaversal started as a group of Northeastern University graduates making Flash games for fun and for web clients. When Apple launched the iPod and iPhone, Metaversal started making games for those devices. The founder of the company sold Metaversal to a New York-based game distributor called Alliance in 2009, and Alliance hired me in 2010 to run the studio. When I came on board I discovered a lot of raw talent and potential but no discipline or structure. There was no one who could tell the new owners of the company when a game would be done or how it would generate any revenues.

I applied the best practices I had learned over the years to the studio and the development team jumped on board without hesitation. They quickly understood the value of good design documentation, source control, bug ticketing, peer review and clearly defined milestones, and we had our first successful app (a novelty app called Shave Me) in April of that year. Shave Me went to the top of the charts and continues to stay strong 3 years later, with well over 8 million downloads and many, many updates and enhancements. We’ve developed many other games since then for both iOS and Android devices, and along with our parent company have recently become PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo developers and publishers.

http://youtu.be/kxvKeAQg0Zc

Geekscape: I downloaded Shave Me and it is honestly one of the most unique apps I’ve ever used. How did Metaversal come up with that idea?

Matt Sughrue: It was the winner in a “weirdest app idea” studio competition. Weird can work in the App Store!

Geekscape: I guess it can! So, what are you working on now?

Matt Sughrue: Can’t give you details on that since we haven’t announced it yet, but we’re building a new iOS and Android game, as well as working with other developers to publish their titles for iOS, PS4 and Xbox One.

Geekscape: I’ll keep a lookout for it! So how many people work at Metaversal and what are the different responsibilities that they have?

Matt Sughrue: We have seven people here in our Massachusetts office, and our parent company has offices in New York, Miami and San Francisco.

Here in our studio we have design, art, engineering, marketing and project management staff. We’re all gamers, and the chemistry between our devs is excellent. Most of the team are people whom I’ve worked with at other jobs in the past, so there is a level of trust and efficiency that lets us achieve a lot more than developers our size normally would be able to pull off.

Geekscape: Will any of your current apps be available on consoles?

Matt Sughrue: Probably nothing that’s already in the market, but we are looking at consoles for everything we do going forward.

Geekscape: So what goes into creating an app?

Matt Sughrue: App development is very different from making console games in that you have a very short dev cycle (1-4 months, depending on the game) and a very small team. We start with a group brainstorm session to get some potential ideas down on the board, then pare the list down by asking things like “Does this have staying power and can it be the start of a line of games?” “Can we bring this to other platforms easily?” “Does this take advantage of the development pipeline we’ve created, or do we need to change our process to make it?” “Can it be done in X months?” And on and on until the strongest idea remains. Everyone is thick-skinned here, which is good because we are also all extremely blunt with each other about the viability of a game concept.

Geekscape: Finally- what platforms do you make apps for?

Matt Sughrue: We make games for iOS, Android, PC/Mac, and now PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo.

Last week, Nintendo posted a new trailer explaining everything we can expect from the upcoming Super Mario 3D World on their Japanese YouTube page, which we reported our impressions on. All of the new power ups and abilities were all well and good, but it’s too bad that most of us had no idea what was said in the video. Fortunately for the foreign language impaired folks like myself, a version of the video has been released showing off all of the game’s goodness in plain old English.

The trailer below shows off power ups new and old alike. Cat Mario, Double Mario, Mega Mushrooms, Propeller Boxes, dead Goomba hats and the ability to climb in to turtle shells are just some of the awesomeness shown in the video. Online features were also displayed, which is surprising seeing as how everything Mario not named Kart seems to shy away from the scary world of the Internet. Nonetheless, players can share ghost Mii’s of their best runs and receive special stamps that give you designs to spruce up your Miiverse posts. All with four unique characters that play in their own distinct way. Who said this game would just be a rehash again?

Super Mario 3D World looks like it could end up being exactly what the Wii U needs this holiday season. Keep your eyes out for dozens of Mario’s when it releases on November 22nd, a day that surely holds no other significance in gaming, right?

Zelda fans lost their minds last week when images of a golden 3DS surfaced, complete with Triforce logos on the front and back of the hardware. Announced for Japan and Europe, nerds across North America were frothing at the mouth for the seemingly inevitable announcement of the hardware hitting our shores.

Well, the wait is over, because Nintendo has officially unveiled the console for our side of the world. Coming November 22nd and packaged with a download code for a digital copy of the upcoming SNES sequel, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, gamers will be able to return to Hyrule in style.

If you needed a reason to finally invest in a 3DS, now is definitely the time. If the gorgeous golden sheen isn’t enough to sway you, maybe the strong library of games, including the recently released Pokemon X and Y, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team and of course, A Link Between Worlds when it releases just might do it. Until then, let us know if this new model will be in your hands come the end of November.

Halo: Spartan Assault was very well received when it was first announced. Everyone rejoiced! Then it was announced it was going to be on Windows Mobile devices only, and many people stopped rejoicing. Then there was a bit of leaked code that talked about controller support. Everyone rejoiced yet again! Then 343 Studios said there were no plans to bring it to the consoles. The rejoicing stopped…once again. Well folks, get your rejoicing shoes back on because, YES! IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED! Halo: Spartan Assault is getting an official Xbox One and Xbox 360 release! Check the new trailer below!

Play longer than ever in a new online Co-op mode, and watch each other’s backs with all-new Co-op missions.

We reported just yesterday on a new Alien filled game mode for the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts. Well the people at Activision reacted quickly and put out this trailer, hot on the heels of the leak. Check out the Extinction trailer below!

Call of Duty: Ghosts introduces Extinction – an all-new 1-4 player cooperative game mode featuring a unique blend of fast-paced survival action, FPS base defense, scavenging and class leveling.

Gone are the much loved zombies, and in their place are some spooky looking aliens! Admittedly, when I first saw the leaked photos I was a little skeptical, but this trailer has brought me back. The  environments look interesting and the gameplay looks like a compelling change of pace from the original zombies missions.

You can get your hands on CoD: Ghosts on PC, PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii U November 5th. It will also be available on the PS4 and Xbox One at launch.

Fresh off the heels of the special edition Legend of Zelda Wii U bundle, Nintendo has announced a new Wii U Deluxe set including both New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U all on one disc.

Effectively replacing the Nintendoland bundle that was released at launch last year, this new bundle will include the critically acclaimed pair of 2D Mario platformers only a few weeks outside of the highly anticipated Super Mario 3D World. But what about the new adopters who want to get their hands on the mini game compilation that was originally bundled? Fear not, because November 1st also brings a $20 price cut to the standalone copy of Nintendoland, with an MSRP of $29.99. Not a bad deal, especially when you consider it’s the closest we’ve gotten to a new F-Zero in almost ten years.

If you’re looking to jump on the Wii U in time for the holidays and you don’t want Zelda, (what’s wrong with you!?) two great games in one box wouldn’t be a bad way to start. While you’re at it, you can always pick up those limited edition Mario and Luigi controls that are also coming out in November. Hmm… A Mario bundle, special controllers and a new 3D game in the same month. I sense a pattern. The new bundle, of course, comes in at a cool $299.

Will you be picking up a Wii U? Has this bundle affected your decision? Comment below and let us know!

Square Enix has been relatively silent about Kingdom Hearts 3 ever since its teaser reveal at E3 this year. Aside from a shot of Sora surfing on a sea of Heartless, that’s all we had to go on. But questions still remain, like how will it play? What will the this third game bring that hasn’t been seen before? How will it look on upgraded hardware? Thanks to a new trailer at the first ever Japanese Disney D23 convention, we have our first glimpse at these answers.

Overall, the game doesn’t look too different, (not that we’d expect them to make huge overhauls to a multimillion seller,) but watching Sora bashing Heartless with his Keyblade looked as reliable as ever. While much looked the same, (including same enemies, familiar environments and animations,) the spells shown seemed more useful, attacking all enemies in the area instead of just the targeted foe.

Spell improvement isn’t the only change shown, seen towards the end where Sora seems to summon amusement park rides to attack enemies. Whether these are part of the stages, an extension of the Flowmotion environment attacks from Kingdom Hearts 3D or actual summons is yet to be seen, but at least there’s work going into making the sequel more than just the same old thing.

If anything, it’s good to finally see KHIII in motion. It only took about eight years, right? Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments!

The launch of Pokemon X and Y this past weekend was one of the most anticipated releases in franchise history, with a move to full 3D, a new world to explore and tons of new Pokemon to catch. Launching simultaneously worldwide was a first for the series, and it seems the move paid off with over four million units sold in two days.

In comparison to previous entries, early data suggests that X and Y will go down as the fastest selling Pokemon games yet, trumping the previous entries, Black 2 and White 2 by selling over 70 percent more. This is huge news for Nintendo and developer Game Freak, especially when you consider how insanely popular the franchise has been. Who knows if it was the new Pokemon, the shift to 3D, the hype for this being the first version made for the 3DS or the worldwide release keeping the mystique in check for the regions outside of Japan, but whatever it was, it seems to have worked.

How long can X and Y ride this momentum? If our review is any indication, it deserves this success for a long, long time. Were you one of the 4 million people that picked up a copy? What do you think of the adventure so far? Comment below and let us know!

Briefly: Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Watch Dogs has been delayed to 2014.

The game, which was set to release on November 19th (and was one of my most-wanted titles of the year) has been pushed to next Spring. Ubisoft explained the delay in a statement on their official website this morning:

Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014 (Fall 2014 for Australia & New Zealand).

We know a lot of you are probably wondering ‘why now?’ We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.

So that’s that. One less game to buy at the PS4 launch, I suppose? I’m still beyond excited for title, and if the delay results in the release of a better game, I’m all for it. As the great Shigeru Miyamoto once said, “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Ubisoft’s The Crew, which was slated for a Q1 2014 release, has been pushed to Q2.

Growing up in 1998, there was absolutely no way to avoid being swept up in the Pokemon craze. The wildly successful competitive RPG title spawned numerous spinoffs, a cartoon, movies, card games, and clothing that brought true meaning to the phrase, “Gotta Catch ’em All.” In retrospect, no one could have imagined that the series would become as big as it did, crossing borders to become a worldwide phenomenon. Although it was deemed as a fad by some, when we fast forward to October 2013, almost exactly 15 years since Pokemon Red and Blue were released so long ago, the monster catching series is as strong as ever. With Pokemon X and Y, 3DS owners around the world will have their hands on the latest instalments simultaneously for the first time in series history. After an extensive play through, the sixth generation of games prove to be the best ones yet, streamlining most of the tedium of training with the largest roster to date and a visual overhaul that will surely excite even the oldest of trainers.

As with the previous games, X and Y puts you in the role of a Pokemon trainer who must travel the world in order to collect wild monsters to join your party and battle rival trainers in order to become the very best, (like no one ever was.) While there was a time when catching 150 creatures seemed like an impossible goal, these games aren’t shy with distributing the daunting amount of over 700 total party members throughout the game. Each section of the map can contain close to a dozen unique Pokemon that span all six generations, giving players an absurd amount of variety to choose from when forming a balanced team. Imagine my shock when the first Pokemon I ever caught when I was 12 was the first Pokemon I caught now, when a wild Pidgey challenged me to a battle. Are you a fan of Fearow? How about Zangoose? Or the two people who liked Sawk and Throh? They’re all here in the wild. In addition to the 70 plus newbies introduced to the games, you’re sure to find plenty of old and new surprises every time you step into the tall grass.

Pokemon XY Screenshot 4Sprawling cities like Lumiose City show off the larger environments.

With so many Pokemon making their return within the Kalos region, they stand out even more thanks to the huge visual leap that this generation takes. The additional power of the 3DS allowed Game Freak to finally make a Pokemon game in full 3D, with all 700-ish monsters being modeled instead of being sprite based. Everything from the environments to the attacks look incredible, and watching classic attacks like Fly and Surf in action is sure to put a smile on the faces of veterans. This has to be the first game in years that I didn’t try to turn battle animations off since they’re so much fun to watch. Outside of battles, the characters and cities are much bigger. Traveling is way faster now that roller skates, grind rails and cabs can be used to move around in addition to the running shoes and bikes of the past. Trainers can also add their own personal touch to their character with new clothes that can be purchased for customization.

3D visuals don’t come without their share of problems though. The 3D on the 3DS drops in and out at certain points. It seems as if 3D isn’t possible in busy or big environments, potentially to prevent slowdown. During battles, 3D is almost always available, but not without the game slowing down to a chug. Even without 3D on, if large attacks or weather effects are taking place, or if fights are being settled in environments that feature background animations, the game’s frame rate takes a noticeable dive. Even then, some of the 3D looks incredible, especially during evolutions or certain animations such as sparks. Let’s just hope the developers can get the visuals down as the series continues to evolve, (no pun intended, but very, very wanted.)

Outside of this graphics renaissance, X and Y also refines the in-game mechanics to near perfection, and special attention must be paid how Game Freak has streamlined the entire experience. Longtime trainers will notice that the experience system has been revamped in a variety of helpful ways. For example, catching Pokemon nets experience the same way winning a battle would. Any Pokemon that participates in the battle gets full experience, instead of splitting it amongst the fighters. Oh, and remember EXP. Share? The hold item that split experience with the Pokemon who holds it, even if it doesn’t battle? Well, now it’s a Key Item that distributes half of the EXP to ALL party members regardless of participation. This nearly makes grinding a thing of the past, so while this system does run the risk of making the game much easier, (as if the old games were hard to begin with,) it also eliminates hours of farming, especially when maxing out levels. If players want more of a challenge, they can always turn it off, but it’s too bad that the option to give it to only one party member wasn’t included like before.

Pokemon XY Screenshot 5Super Training makes stat boosting easier, but it’s not much fun.

In addition to these improvements, EV training has also been simplified for our convenience. Previously a hidden feature of the game, EV training was the method used for giving your party specific stat boosts by fighting certain opponents with a strength in a particular area. For example, if you fight nothing but Zubats, (who specialize in speed,) the monster responsible for wiping out the world’s bat population would gain a higher speed boost than normal. If searching for specific monsters sounds like too much of a hassle, X and Y has added an active and passive form of raising these stats. Players can partake in different mini games that help boost the areas of your choice, or they can select specific punching bags that can either raise stats, improve mini game performance or unlock new bags while you play normally. If you’re impatient, you can also tap the bag on the touch screen to break it faster, which helps since you can only carry so many bags.

These training sections are also complimented by the much touted Pokemon-Amie mode, a separate mini game that lets one of your party members get all pampered up Nintendogs style. Petting, feeding and playing games with your partner can give it boosts for battle and raise its friendship level, another unseen stat that affected the power of certain moves, evolution in some species and in game rewards. I can’t emphasize enough how great it is to have an alternative way to raise these stats aside from mindlessly mashing A while you repeatedly battle randoms, but apparently beggars can be choosers, because these sections are where the game can use some improvement. For being new features, the game does a horrible job of introducing you to the modes, and most of what I learned about them was through trial and error. The mini games themselves are rather shallow, especially the training ones where each stat boost game is exactly the same with a different shaped balloon. Still, it beats hours of finding Machokes to boost attack with, and like the EXP Share, it’s completely optional, so the classic way of doing things is still just as viable.

With training and graphics getting such a huge do-over, don’t think the battles didn’t go through some changes as well. If you’ve been following the game at all, then you’re sure to have learned about the new Fairy type and Mega Evolutions. Starting with the new element, many of the old Normal types, (along with a few other creatures,) have been converted to this new type, bringing the total up to 18 unique elements. Much like Rock Paper Scissors, certain types are strong and weak to others, with each Pokemon and attack being labeled with at least one such type. Some have been rebalanced, (like Steel losing some resistances, Electric becoming immune to paralysis and Dragons being unable to hurt retroactive Fairies like Jigglypuff,) but the biggest game changer that Fairy brings has nothing to do with its own type at all. With Fairies having only a handful of weaknesses, the Poison type has gone from virtually useless to a vital part of the main game’s strategy since they’re one of the best ways to take these new guys down. Sadly, Bug still sucks.

Pokemon XY Screenshot 1Got a dragon problem? Throw pink at it!

As powerful as the Fairy type is, the biggest boost of strength comes from Mega Evolutions, a new, temporary transformation that only affects certain Pokemon. Essentially a new evolution that doesn’t take up space on the Pokedex, these forms can give the user appearance changes, power boosts, new abilities, or new typing. The catch? Mega Evolution can only be achieved during battle by having the Pokemon hold a certain item, taking up that oh-so-important item slot. Transforming can only be done once per battle, so if said Pokemon faints and is revived, or more than one party member has the ability to change into their mega form, the ability can’t be used again during that battle, even if the second one never transformed itself. How useful losing the item slot will be in competitive play in exchange for transforming is yet to be seen, but at the very least, it adds a new layer of depth to an already deep system while giving us new forms to old favorites that we never thought we’d see.

Pokemon XY Screenshot 2Meet Mega Mewtwo Y, one of the many new Mega Evolutions.

With all of these improvements, it’s easy to look over some of the smaller shortcomings, (like the new Sky Battles being pointless with useless restrictions, Horde Battles taking far too long when they cycle through five low level opponents and Pikachu being the only Pokemon to get a spoken voice, the attention whore…) but the game’s only major flaw is its story. When Pokemon Black and White released, it was a huge step in the right direction, with a strong narrative in a series that was known for being sadly shallow. After spoiling us with interesting and charismatic characters like N, Ghetsis, Team Plasma, and gym leaders who actually stepped out of their gyms and helped when the world was threatened, X and Y almost does a complete U-Turn.

Like generations 3 and 4, these games take a basic approach that gives you the bare minimum of motivation to continue story wise. That means going to the gym, fighting the leader, maybe fighting the new evil team, Team Flare, rinse, and repeat. Having a group of four friends that aid you throughout your journey instead of the usual rival is far from enough to make this feel like the same old song and dance. The worst part is that the game has a ton of interesting lore found through NPC’s, a fun side plot surrounding the origins of Mega Evolutions, and an ending that almost brought a tear to my eye, (all while giving off a Return of the Jedi vibe.) But yet, rather than spreading out the story throughout the game, the main conflict isn’t directly addressed until very late in the game and is essentially resolved all in one sequence, which is a real shame since Team Flare’s leader seems to have a ton of untapped potential. Unfortunately, he barely gets any screen time aside from some vague, passive aggressive threats until moments before his final defeat. Even the basic badge collecting plot takes awhile to get started, with hours between the first, second and third badges before rapidly firing off the next four. More elaboration, better pacing, and important characters playing a more active role was sorely needed, which is apparent when set side by side with the huge step forward Black and White was. Oh well, let’s hope this is addressed in the inevitable Z version.

Pokemon XY Screenshot 3Your group of friends is one of the few highlights of the story.

It would have been easy for Game Freak to rest on their laurels and release something more familiar, sell another 10 million copies and call it a day, but it’s clear that they wanted to make a huge impression to take the series into the new generation. Even with the narrative flaws, Pokemon X and Y feels like not only the best Pokemon game on the market, but one of the best games of the year. By eliminating the tedious grinding of the past while adding tons of features, abilities and rearranging the game’s balance, what we’re left with is a game that does as much as possible to perfect the game play we’ve known and loved for a decade and a half, all to an impressive soundtrack. With a story lasting about 25 hours and a post game including the returning Battle Tower, (now the Battle Mansion,) new areas to explore and tons of Mega Stones that unlock new Mega Evolutions, there’s plenty to do after the credits roll, (and that’s not even counting filling the Pokedex!) While the story needs work and the graphics run into some technical snags, these flaws are miniscule in the face of everything that these games do right.

Whether you’re a long time trainer, a newcomer or looking to come out of retirement, it would be impossible to find a reason not to catch ’em all one more time. On a system with so many great games, Pokemon X and Y manages to stand tall as one of the greatest offerings that the 3DS has to offer, and is one of the most polished role playing games on the market bar none. In other words, this is a game that absolutely cannot be missed!

TL;DR:

+ The largest roster in series history, with more wild Pokemon than you’ll know what to do with.

+ Refined, streamlined training methods.

+ Graphics that bring the Pokemon world alive like never before.

+ Mega Evolutions and Fairy’s turns strategies on their heads.

– The story takes a huge step back, even with plenty of good ideas sprinkled in.

– Massive slowdown with the inconsistent 3D on and occasional slowdown without.

– Training and Pokemon-Amie mini games could be explained much better… or at all.

Final score: 4.75 out of 5.

So last month was the month of Valve and Steam. They had a series of announcements showcasing their move into the living room (Check them out: Day 1 , Day 2 and Day 3). On the third day they announced their take on the console controller. We saw some pictures and some mock ups but today we can see the device in action!

After seeing this I feel a lot better about the product. The thought of two trackpads worried me, and anyone who’s tried to play a shooter on a laptop.

We will be sure to keep you updated as more info on the controller comes out, and hopefully we can get our hands on one of the beta models!

The Nintendo Direct presentation earlier this week had a ton of new information on the future of the Wii U and 3DS, but one of the most surprising revelations was the company’s expected presence at this year’s IndieCade. As an attempt to reach out to independent developers and usher them to the Wii U and 3DS as a home for their work, Nintendo has offered numerous indie titles on its eShop service. To show off these partnerships, a recent press release has shown their entire IndieCade lineup, with some surprises along the way.

Representatives from Fuzzy Wuzzy Games (Armillo), WaterMelon (Pier Solar and the Great Architects), Nicalis (1,001 Spikes, Grinsia) and Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight) will attend the event to show off their games and answer questions.

Lastly, Dan Adelman, manager of Business Development at Nintendo of America, will be hosting a panel entitled “How to Self-Publish Your Game on Nintendo eShop.” Any would-be developers who are interested in getting their game out to the masses might want to take note of this, especially considering the millions of 3DS system on the street right now.

IndieCade is a four day event spanning from October 3rd-6th in Culver City, California, so if you’re in the area, love games and have the weekend free, it would be a great way to check out the newest ideas in gaming while giving lesser known names some love.

Recently, Atlus has put up an interesting web page, one with nothing but a date and time of 11/24 at 12:00. Considering that this is Atlus, it’s safe to say that the announcement will be game related, but the only clue that we have is the logo at the bottom left of the web page. A quick click will show that the symbol is none other than the Persona team’s logo. Does this mean after years of waiting that we’re finally going to get our greedy hands on Persona 5?

The long awaited sequel to one of the most acclaimed RPGs of the last decade has been in the sights of gamers ever since it was said to be in development years ago. Since then, the team has made titles such as Persona 4: Golden, and Catherine among others, but details have been scarce on when we would get the chance to fight shadows between picking up on every girl in sight. This teaser is the first glimmer of hope that we’ve seen since the learning of its development, so it’s easy to see why there’s reason to be excited.

With that said, remember last year when Square Enix posted a teaser for The World Ends With You, but ended up being an iOS port instead of something like a sequel? Or when the potential Final Fantasy VI remake teaser led us to All the Bravest, one of the worst attempts at a “video game” on mobile devices? Calling it a game is generous as it is.

So while I don’t want to set myself or anyone else up for disappointment, something… ANYTHING Persona 5 related is welcomed in my book. We’ll just have to count the days until the clock strikes 12:00 in Japan before we know if we’ll take another trip in the fight against shadows once again.
