Unsure if you’ll be able to wait until that first Friday in November for your 007 fill? Well, earlier today the official 007 Twitter announced that the US IMAX release will be on November 8th, Yes, one day earlier than the general release for the flick. Will you dish out the extra few backs and report to duty before everyone else?

But in the meantime check out a new banner for the film featuring Ben Whishaw as Q.

Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time.  In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her.  As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.  The film also stars Berenice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes.

It’s currently a great time for comic book fans at the local multiplex. Three of the biggest movies of 2012 are based on comic book properties. The Avengers accomplished feats we would have never imagined possible ten years ago and has gone on to become the third highest grossing film of all time. The Amazing Spider-Man swung its way into our hearts and made us feel like teenagers again. The Dark Knight Rises concluded a trilogy that left us satisfied in a way that many fans have not felt with a trilogy since… well, you know which trilogy. But it wasn’t always like this.

At one point superhero movies were B-list movies that were destined to one day be available in five dollar bins at Best Buy right next to horrid video game films. The seventies and eighties saw comic book adaptations as jokes with few minor exceptions such as Superman, Batman, and a few other b-list properties. The nineties were full of poor excuses for comic film adaptations like Steel, Batman & Robin, Mystery Men and Judge Dredd.

But at some point the superhero movie began to improve in both story and scale. Studios started to see the positive results of doing right by the superhero genre. Don’t get me wrong, we still saw plenty of failure with movies that could have been great. I’m looking at you Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man 3 and X-Men: The Last Stand (oh, the bad theater memories associated with those last two…). But the good is starting to consistently outweigh the bad. So looking back at the history of the superhero film, which ones played pivotal roles in bringing us to where we are now?

1978’s Superman: The Movie is regarded by many as the first true superhero film, perhaps because Richard Donner fought to take the subject matter seriously. When he agreed to be director, the script he got was nothing but campy humor. He threw that out, brought in Tom Mankiewicz to do heavy rewrites and the result was nothing short of fantastic. Not only did we get brilliant direction from Donner, but we got some of the most iconic performances from talented actors. The impact of this movie can still be seen reflected in many movies including Sam Raimi’s homage in Spider-Man 2 when Peter Parker opens his shirt to reveal his costume underneath and most recent in the brief Gwen Stacy/Spider-Man swinging sequence in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man.

Many elements of the Superman mythos introduced in the film have since been incorporated into the regular continuity of the DC Universe. While the sequel Superman II (which Donner started but was finished after his firing by Richard Lester) received much praise, the reception to the sequels that followed was not so great, with Brian Singer’s love letter to Donner’s original Superman Returns regarded by some as one of the worst comic book adaptations. Throughout the 80s, after the success of Superman 1 and 2, we saw a dark period full of horrible attempts at comic book movies, including the spin-off film Supergirl. But in 1989 things would brighten up. Funny that it required a Dark Knight to do so.

In 1989, Tim Burton’s Batman arrived in theaters, one of the first truly “dark” comic book movies and completely changed the game, leading to a comic book resurgence at the box office and well received comic book films like Dick Tracy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Rocketeer. But as fresh as Tim Burton’s cinematic take on Batman was, the memories of the campy 1960’s caped crusader hung tight. The movie was even criticized in some places for being “too dark”. Burton once joked, “ever since I did Batman, it was like the first dark comic book movie. Now everyone wants to do a dark and serious superhero movie. I guess I’m the one responsible for that trend.” And he’s right. Tim Burton’s Batman is very responsible for the “darker”, more “mature” superhero film.

Just as with Christopher Nolan’s movies, the fans had many complaints about the casting choices in this film. Even the first trailer seemed to poke fun at the outcry, as comedic actor Michael Keaton responded to a caught crook pleading “who are you!?!” with a simple: “I’m Batman”. And he was. When naysayers ultimately saw the movie, they were blown away by the performances of both Keaton and Jack Nicholson, an inspired star-caliber casting choice.

Not only did the movie begin the trend of dark comic book movies but the success of Batman prompted Warner Bros. Animation to create the critically-acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series, resulting in the long-running DC animated universe. It also led to the theatrical release of Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm, which set the stage for mature theatrically released animated movies like Disney’s theatrical release of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. How different would our theatrical landscape be today if this movie had not been released into theaters? IGN ranked Mask of the Phantasm as the 25th best animated film of all time in a list published in 2010. However,  things would not always stay bright. Tim Burton’s breakout film was eventually eroded by sequels (and Joel Schumacher), culminating in 1997’s Batman & Robin being quite possibly, hands down, the worst comic book movie of all time. But at least for a while, DC seemed to be on top of the comic book adaptation game, until a C-level Marvel property proved it had some real teeth.

In 1998, we saw the first appearance of Wesley Snipes as Blade on the big screen. Produced and released under the radar, and featuring an obscure Marvel character, this movie resulted in Marvel’s first successful comic book based film. And it immediately swung the bright lights of Hollywood onto the comic publisher’s massive stable of characters, lights dimmed by Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four and The Punisher movie of almost a decade earlier. In fact, after the disastrous performances of DC’s Batman & Robin and Steel, it gave Marvel some bragging rights and its success convinced studios like Fox and Sony to develop blockbuster films based on the X-Men and Spider-Man, Marvel’s two A-list superhero properties towards the end of the decade. Suddenly, superheroes were back in the game.

Blade also acted as one of the first times where we saw a sequel that was arguably better than the first film. His second Hollywood film (after Mimic), Guillermo del Toro’s take on the Marvel Comics vampire hunter in Blade II still doesn’t get the credit that it deserves but the box office proved that the franchise had bite, improving on the first film’s earnings and setting the stage for Underworld receiving a wider release the following year (before Kate Beckinsale was a proven box office draw). And even though David Goyer’s third film didn’t live up to either of the first two, it showed that less widely known Marvel properties (like Iron Man) could work as box office franchises. The third film also introduced us to the first big budget outing of a TV actor who would eventually become the big screen Hal Jordan. Looking back, Blade accomplished a more than most people remember. But if Blade cracked open the door for the future success of the superhero film, the following two films blew the door right off the hinges.

In the summer of 2000, Fox released X-Men to the big screen.  The move had a large list of A-list actors including Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart but also included a few untested or unknown talents, including director Bryan Singer, who was only known at the time for smaller, critically acclaimed films The Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil. Hugh Jackman, an unknown actor at the time, was cast three weeks into filming as a replacement for Dougray Scott. Leaked set images and costume tests were met with criticism by fans months earlier and leading up to the release of X-Men, expectations were not high that this movie was going to work at all.

But it did… in a big way. Jackman went on to become the most recognizable face of the franchise and a major Hollywood star. Actually, everyone involved in X-Men went on to find immediate success, but X-Men was a major risk for both Fox and Marvel and today many people fail to realize that without X-Men we would not have gotten The Avengers. A superhero ensemble film? X-Men proved that it could work. Singer and company proved that you could have a story filled with superheroes and fantastical elements that followed multiple characters and didn’t feel rushed or hazy around the edges. With a budget of $75,000,000 (small by today’s superhero standards), the film went on to earn twice that at the box office and paved the way for today’s wave of superhero box office goodwill. The following May, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man broke box office records on opening weekend. Obviously, people loved their superheroes and X-Men hadn’t been enough for them.

Singer followed up the first film with X2: X-Men United which is still regarded as one of the best comic book movies ever. The story was bigger, the stakes were higher and the fights more elaborate. Prior to First Class, this was widely regarded as the best X-Men movie to date and featured morals, messages, themes and references to the comics that only avid fans would get. The opening sequence with Nightcrawler is still one of the best opening scenes in any comic book movie. It draws you in and you are instantly hooked. And the ending? One of the biggest set ups for a classic storyline that left fans going crazy (sadly, it was ruined by a horrible third chapter which followed the comic book movie curse). While X3: The Last Stand did feature some great casting and character additions (Ben Foster as Angel, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde and Kelsey Grammar as Beast) it failed to live up to its predecessors by far. It was obvious that the Superhero movie had begun to buckle under the pressures of success (and Hollywood) and needed to be brought back to its roots. Luckily, DC and Warner Bros. had just rewritten the blue prints for success the previous summer.

It was now time for studios to take what they had learned from past outings and put it to work. In 2005 Christopher Nolan brought a dark knight back to the screen and changed the face of the modern comic book movie. After a series of unsuccessful projects to resurrect Batman on screen following the 1997 critical failure that was Batman & Robin, Nolan and David Goyer began work on the film in early 2003 and aimed for a darker and more realistic tone, with humanity and realism being the basis of the film. Nolan chose to rely on traditional stunts and miniatures and very minimally relied on CGI to further set a sense of realism in this new Bat-verse. The goal was to get the audience to care for both Batman and Bruce Wayne. Batman Begins was both critically and commercially successful.

Batman Begins was not only considered to have heralded a trend of darker genre films but also the rebooting of many franchises. This can most recently be seen with The Amazing Spider-Man where we see a return to the character in a more reality based story with darker tones. Batman Begins had become the game changer.  That was until Marvel Studios “suited up” for the first time in 2008.

Up until now Marvel’s properties had their hits and misses. Marvel’s movies had been handled by outside studios and now it was time for Marvel Studios first at bat with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man and it knocked it out of the park. While past films had tweaked the formula for the perfect superhero movie this had taken all of that in and set the standard. What made the film work ultimately is that there is a fluid mix of real drama, human pathos, computer-rendered special FX, sexual tension undercurrent romance, lighthearted hi-jinks and humor, as well as genuine chemistry between the stars of the film.

Especially important, the film’s producers realized that it was important for them to take the source material from the comics as serious material and use it as their basis for the entire story they built. It was obvious that the source material was given the kind of credibility and respectability it deserved, which resulted in the film having a quite healthy opening weekend. By earning a worldwide total of $585 million, it proved that even B-list Marvel superheroes had legitimate box office appeal with the right handling.

Marvel Studios thus proved that it was indeed the best place for these heroes to be adapted for the big screen. Iron Man was huge but it was also the first step towards something bigger. Marvel Studios followed up with The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, establishing something that had never been seen before, a connected movie universe that culminated in what would go on to be the largest grossing superhero movie of all time and quite possibly the highest praised, The Avengers. The film currently sits at an impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and has gone on to gross $1.5 billion dollars in ticket sales alone.

But, while The Avengers was huge it was just the beginning. Marvel is set to begin their “Phase Two” plan next year. We will see Iron Man, Thor and Captain America all return to the big screen with sequels but in 2014 Marvel Studios is preparing to take some of their biggest risks yet bringing less-known characters Ant-Man and Guardians Of The Galaxy to the big screen. This will all lead up to us assembling once again for the sequel to The Avengers in 2015. And it seems Marvel Studios success has shown another studio that a massive superhero ensemble movie can be done and done well.

Next year you will also believe a man can fly again when Zack Snyder brings Superman back to the big screen with Man Of Steel. This will be Superman’s first film since 2006’s not-so-critically acclaimed Superman Returns. This is reported to be DC’s first step to establishing their own connected universe much like Marvel has done with upcoming plans for a Justice League film to hit screens in the coming years.

And while the credits may be rolling on this article we all know by now that doesn’t always mean that it’s over. Stick around because there’s sure to be something else…

Back when The Cabin In The Woods had wrapped shooting, keep in mind that this was some time ago before MGM went bankrupt and the film got delayed, there were plans to develop a themed expansion pack for Valve’s Left 4 Dead. The DLC would have allowed players to run through scenarios from the movie. Sounds awesome right? Damn you MGM and your vile bankruptcy!

Unfortunately for us, with all the issues that the film’s release saw, the project ended up getting scrapped. Director Drew Goddard recently discussed what the game would have been like in his Reddit AMA :

“The game was gonna be amazing. You were gonna be able to play in both the upstairs Cabin in the Woods world and the downstairs ‘facility’ world with all the monsters. Believe me, I HATE all video games based on movies, they always suck, but porting Cabin into Left For Dead felt like the right fit. It pains me that it didn’t happen.”

That sounds awesome right? Man, I would have loved to have run around and saw the chalkboard and killed that fucking unicorn. Yeah, I said it. I’d kill the unicorn…and what?

It definitely appears that there are going to be some strong performances from the cast in this one. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Jackie Weaver, Lucas Till, and Alden Ehrenreich.

After India’s father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother. Stoker will be released in theaters March 1st, 2013.

Like they did with Batman: Arkham City, Warner Brothers Interactive will release a collectors edition of Injustice: God Among Us. The collectors edition will be released same time as the regular version, but will contain a whole bunch of extras for that extra price. The extras include a 25cm tall statue of Batman and Wonder Woman, steelbook case, two issues of a brand new DC Comics series and three DCnU skins for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.  You’ll only be able to pick it up for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 though because the Wii U will be missing out on the edition. The collectors edition of Injustice: Gods Among Us set you back $99.99.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past starts filming next January and other than the title of the movie we haven’t heard much about it. There has been a rumor about Patrick Stewart appearing in the film and many just shrugged it off as a rumor. Well, there is a definite chance that it is more than a rumor. During a panel at the 2012 Montreal Comic Convention, Patrick Stewart made an interesting comment. Or at least started to make one.

Sir Patrick Stewart closed out the 2012 Montreal Comic Convention by offering up a tantalizing tease for fans of the X-Men film franchise. If hisrecent nod at an Apple store seemed to suggest he’d be returning to the silver screen in the role of Professor X, when asked directly by a fan during his Q&A panel, the Englishman gave a knowing smile and spoke the words many have been waiting to hear: “I think there is every possibility.”

He proceeded to enthusiastically run down the list of his female co-stars: “Halle Berry! Famke Janssen! Rebecca Stamos! Anna Paquin!” The crowd roared back with delight, opting not to point out his mistake regarding Rebecca Romijn’s current last name. He continued, saying “yes, I’ll be reprising…” only to be cut off by his son Daniel, who proceeded to throw out the names of his father’s male co-stars, Hugh Jackman and Sir Ian McKellen.

Now, while he was cut off it appears that he may be reprising his role in the next film. But after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand how would the character appear? Being that the movie deals with time travel they could fix the events of the third film. Or maybe time travel and never have Brett Ratner direct it?

The adaptation of the IDW graphic novel Lore may now have it’s director. The property was first acquired back in 2010, and producers were hoping for a Men In Black-style franchise to start with the adaptation. Well, it looks like they’re getting their wish because they’ve got the director being all three of the Men In Black films in talks to direct the film.

Dwayne Johnson signed on to back in April for the film written by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott. It is currently unknown if Sonnenfeld will rework the script before production starts but he has plenty of time. Due to Johnson’s filming schedule it’s likely that production won’t start until early 2013.

A synopsis of the graphic novel:

In times past, the world was full of mythical creatures, creatures long since banished and held at bay by the secret society of Shepherds. But when the generational line of Shepherds is broken, a reluctant hero finds her life threatened from every quarter. And the creatures are coming back…

The DC/Vertigo Comics series that was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon has been stuck in a development limbo for quite some time now. Sam Mendes, Rachel Talalay, and Mark Steven Johnson have all taken cracks at adapting the comic. It’s seen attempts at bringing it both to the big and small screens in it’s time. The latest names attached to the project are screenwriter John August (Frankenweenie) and director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia).

Screenwriter August, who is probably best known for his work on Charlie’s Angels and Big Fish, recently mentioned Preacher and commented that it was currently “frozen in 12-point Courier” and described it’s development as “gestating.”

“I don’t know if the birth is going to be anytime soon. That’s the frustration about screenwriting. You can spend a lot of time on a project and sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t happen. The luxury of working on ‘Frankenweenie’ is that I came on and they said, ‘We’re going to make this movie. You wrote the script and I shoot the script,’ and it’s done. That’s remarkable.

You look for filmmakers who will see it and make it. My favorite genre of movies are movies that get made.”

And what about the director attached to the project? Back in 2011 D.J. Caruso tweeted that he was going to direct Preacher. He even went on to say a month later that he’d like to cast Chris Pine as Jesse Custer, Alex Pettyfer as the Saint Of Killers, and Shia LaBeouf as Arseface. But just a year, Caruso announced that his next project would not be Preacher. Instead he would be directing the sci-fi thriller, Invertigo. Will this film ever see the light of day? It honestly doesn’t sound like it.

Last week it was revealed that Rupert Wyatt had stepped down as director of the upcoming sequel to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Now 20th Century Fox has come up with a short list of directors to replace Wyatt for the upcoming sequel, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.

Deadline have revealed that the directors on the list consist of Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), J Blakeson (The Disappearance Of Alice Creed), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later0, Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage), Jeff Nichols (Mud) and the final two names that are sure to excite a lot of people. Also on the list are Guillermo del Toro, who we don’t need to tell you what he’s done because you already know, and Rian Johnson (Looper).

Apparently Reeves is currently on the top of the list having stepped away earlier today from Warner Bros. planned remake of The Twilight Zone citing schedule conflicts. Could this mean that the director has chosen to take on Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes instead? It’s quite possible. Expect an announcement very soon.

Well, if you didn’t expect this one…you should have. The terrorist organization The Ten Rings that captured Tony Stark in the first Iron Man will be returning for Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. The name of the organization was originally a wink to fans of the comics who knew that one of Iron Man’s most famous opponents, The Mandarin, had ten magical rings he would wear that would give him powers.

You can see the organization’s logo in the banner behind Mr. Stark. The same logo that appears on these hats:

It is highly likely that the group will obviously have ties to the movies antagonist, The Mandarin. However, the actual details of those ties are unknown at the moment. A trailer is expected to be released in the coming weeks and just like the rest of you I can’t wait for Phase Two to start.

L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican’s official newspaper has some complaints with Sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus following the films release in Italy last week. No, it’s not about the films ending. They take issue with how the film portrays the origin of mankind and state that it’s a “bad idea to defy the gods” as well as state about the film that it “mishandles the delicate questions raised by … the battle eternal between good and evil in yet another attempt to steak the secret of immortality.”

Showing a clear lack of understanding of the premise, they argue that “the journey of Prometheus should instead symbolize the search for the supernatural.” Keep in mind that this isn’t the first time that The Vatican has lashed out at Hollywood films. However, Prometheus is getting it easier than Avatar and The Da Vinci Code did. But seriously Vatican…you have a problem with this stuff and not the guy petting the alien snake?

The latest of many rumors attached to the upcoming Justice League film is an interesting one. It appears that an undercover Warner Bros. marketing/research team made it’s way into an undisclosed comic book shop and began asking a series of question to gauge what fans reactions are to Marvel Studios, the talked about Justice League film and Frank Miller. The team apparently entered the shop posing as fans, but it became apparent to the staff by the time they finished their first question that they were definitely not.

The team began asking questions regarding whether fans would accept a DC superhero movie without Christopher Nolan directing and if he served as a producer, would that placate fans?

Apparently they also began asking about the team line-up and made sure and mentioned Aquaman but also went on to mock the Ant-Man film only to become worried when the staff said it would probably be cool. The most interesting of the questions seemed to be the final question. They asked:

“What would fan reaction be to a Justice League movie with Frank Miller’s name attached?”

If this turned out to be true. What would it really mean to have Frank Miller’s name attached? Is he rewriting Will Beall’s (Gangster Squad) script, producing or directing? I guess we’re going to have to wait and find out.

Do you need more hockey movies in your life? Of course you do! Well, last years hockey comedy Goon is getting a sequel. Earlier today writer/star Jay Baruchel tweeted that there will indeed be a sequel.  The original starred Sean William Scott (American Pie) as Doug Glatt, the black sheep of his pretty brainy family. Glatt works as a bouncer until an opportunity arises for him to be an enforcer on an underdog semi-pro hockey team.

Actually, just check out our review for it here. While there has been no word as far as what the plot will be for the sequel, Baruchel will return to write the script with Jesse Chabot, director Michael Dowse will also return to direct the sequel. Evan Goldberg, who co-wrote the original, will return as a producer.  Baruchel also tweeted:

Please know this: GOON is pretty close to sacred for all of us involved and we would only be entertaining the idea of continuing the saga if we were all equally convinced that Doug, Laflamme, Stevesy, the Russians, Rolie, Ogilvy Belchy and Eva were only getting started

We will give them and you guys the epic, violent, heartfelt awesomeness that is not just deserved but required. HIGH. LAND. ERS.

So, hopefully this means that the original cast will be returning as well? I really hope so.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) is in negotiations for the female lead in Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse. She may be joining Chris Hemsworth (Thor), who has been previously reported as being in talks for the male lead in the film. The film is based on the book by Daniel H. Wilson.

Tom Rothman, who will be departing from his post as chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment will be producing the film. DreamWorks has been developing the property since 2009, when it acquired rights to Wilson’s then-unpublished manuscript about the fate of the human race following a robot uprising. Robopocalypse is currently set to hit theaters on April 24, 2014.

During Grant Morrison’s run on New X-Men quite some time ago, he made a very controversial decision to have Beast undergo a second mutation which gave the character a more feline-like appearance. Well, it seems that the the following excerpt from the script as well as the preview from Bendis & Immonen’s All-New X-Men #1  indicates that we may see the character undergo yet another mutation. Now the question is…to what?

Prinicipal photography on Thor: The Dark World is currently underway and according to Shepherd Management Limited casting agency, not one but two of their clients have signed on for minor undisclosed roles in Alan Taylor’s sequel. Deadline has now revealed what roles the actors will be playing in the film.

The first being British actor Clive Russell who has appeared in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and its 2011 sequel, as well as numerous British television series, and he was recently cast as Ser Brynden Tulley the Blackfish in HBO’s third season of Game Of Thrones. Clive Russell will portray the god of war, Tyr, which is the all-father Odin’s other biological son and older brother of the titular God of thunder in the comics.

The second addition is Richard Brake, who is probably best known for playing the DC character Joe Chill in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. The actor has also appeared in Hannibal Rising, Water For Elephants, & Outpost. The actor will play a captain of an elite group of Asgardian warriors that appeared in the first film, known as Einherjars.

Thor: The Dark World hits theaters November 8, 2013.

Skyfall isn’t even in theaters yet but there’s word that Bond’s next adversary is already lined up. Following the news that that actor Daniel Craig has signed on to star as 007 in two more James Bond films, Express UK’s Day & Night are reporting that Craig will be joined by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), and saying the actor has already landed the role of the main antagonist in the twenty fourth Bond film.

“Benedict is considered perfect Bond villain material.Work on the next film will begin next year and the plan is for Benedict to be on board. He grew up watching Bond, so it would be a childhood ambition fulfilled. Playing a Bond villain is one of the plum roles in film history and he’d jump at the chance.”

The actor stated a few months back that he would jump at the chance of playing James Bond, and while he won’t be playing Bond maybe he definitely jumped at the idea of being in a Bond film? No official confirmation has been issued by the studio yet. So, what do you guys think about this one? I already know one Geekscape writer that probably fell out of their chair in excitement.

Former SNL cast member Jenny Slate has been hired to write yet another Looney Tunes reboot. The film will once again utilize the live-action/CGI hybrid that we saw with Space Jam and Back In Action. So, wait does this mean we won’t see a Space Jam sequel?

A director hasn’t been announced for the film yet, but it is known that both David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the screenplays for both Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, will be producing the film. Can this film bring new life to the characters like The Muppets recently saw? Or will it be time to say that’s all folks?

New York Comic-Con is quickly approaching and DC Collectibles has revealed two new “con exclusive” products that will only be available for sale to those in attendance. Well, or the people on eBay that night.

The first of two being the Aardman Batman Action Figure designed by Rich Webber and sculpted by Phil Ramirez. Based on the popular shorts that are shown during the DC Nation block on Cartoon Network, this unique take on the caped crusader was created by the British brains behind the film “Wallace & Gromit.” Aardman Batman will take a $25 chunk out of your wallet.

Next up we’ve got another of the 3.75” two-pack action figure line that launched this year at San Diego Comic-Con. New York will feature DC Comics characters John Stewart and Atrocitus, for the price of $25.

Many fans have been wondering when the next time we would see the Green Goliath on the big screen after his standout appearance in The Avengers.  The head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige recently spoke about the plans for a Hulk movie after the sequel to The Avengers sequel and that ‘World War Hulk’ as well as ‘Planet Hulk’ are definitely possibilities.

Feige spoke on the topic of the two stories being adapted:

“‘Planet Hulk’ is a cool story. ‘World War Hulk’ is a cool story. I think there’s pitfalls of continuity-overload, and mythology getting so dense that it almost collapses in on itself. It happens every few decades or so in the comics. Apart from that, I’d say everything is on the table.”

But Feige did state it’d be quite some time before we saw the Hulk in a solo film again:

“Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in ‘Avengers’? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until ‘Avengers 2.’ So there’s a lot of time to think about it.”

Out of the two stories I think that ‘Planet Hulk’ would be easier to adapt into a solo film than ‘World War Hulk’. Are either of these stories that you would want to see on the big screen or do you have a personal Hulk storyline that you’d like to see brought to life? They did establish The Leader in The Incredible Hulk and I personally would enjoy seeing them pursue that option but can understand them going another route.

Fans were quite ecstatic when they learned that Chuck star Zachary Levi would be taking over the role of Fandral in Thor: The Dark World. Have you been wondering what he is going to look like as the blonde bearded swordsman? Well, Levi tweeted a pretty funny picture from the Shepperton Studios alongside actor Idris Elba who plays Heimdall that gives you an idea.

Paramount is still attempting develop a feature film based on the popular series Baywatch, you know the one where they ran on the beach in slow motion all the damn time, and it appears they’ve brought someone new in to give the project life again. Screenwriter Peter Tolan (Rescue Me) was previously tapped to write the script, and it was revealed that his take would be a comedy adaptation which is probably going to be similar to what we got with the quite hilarious 21 Jump Street.

And that’s fine being that a serious Baywatch movie would be a disaster. Vulture reports that Reno 911! co-creator and star Robert Ben Garant will be directing the film. Garant previously directed the films Reno 911! Miami and Balls Of Fury. There is no word whether or not Garant would be touching up on the script but we can definitely assume he’s going to be. This could actually turn out to be reallly funny if done right. And they better have a damn Hasselhoff cameo.

It’s undeniable that the Transformers movies are fun as hell to watch. I’ve been a die-hard ‘former fan since I got my first toy back in the mid-80’s and I am one of the fans who does enjoy Micheal Bay’s films. Well, minus Revenge Of The Fallen which I pretty much have just blocked out from my mind.

And love them or hate them they have gone on to be some of the highest grossing films of all time so it’s a no brainer that we would see a fourth entry in the franchise. Michael Bay had stated that Dark Of The Moon was going to be his final time at bat with the Autobots and Decepticons but to many peoples surprise signed on to direct the currently untitled fourth film. He recently spoke on his reasons for returning to helm the fourth film with The Huffington Post.

“I thought I was done, then the ride came out and the two-and-a-half-hour lines. And then you’re thinking, ‘Oh my God, someone’s going to take this over?’ And you start doing a lot of soul-searching… I’m thinking that if I do this last one, we set it on a new footing and we change a lot of things, but we keep the history of the three in place. But we broaden it so it can be set up and be carried on — it would have a better chance for survival, I guess… The bottom line is, when you go to Universal Studios and you have the two-and-a-half-hour line, it’s hard to give it up. You birth a baby and you want to carry it on.”

After stating that this fourth chapter would “probably” (let’s just say right now that he will probably be back) be his last one, he also seemingly reveals that those previous rumors of a whole new start for the franchise may not be entirely true.

“We’re basically taking from the history of where it was, or where we left it in Chicago, and we’re going to carry it on from there.”

I’m actually glad that they’re not going the sort-of reboot route with this one and hope we get something bigger this time around and hopefully more screen time for some of the fan favorite Autobots. No more Megatron please. Who would you guys likes to see as the villain in the next ‘formers flick?

It has been pretty much known for a while that Brian Michael Bendis would be doing a new Guardians Of The Galaxy title as part of the Marvel NOW! relaunch. However,  there was no word on who the artist would be. Until today that is. The following teaser reveals that Brian Michael Bendis will be teaming up with Steve McNiven (Nemesis) for the first time since they brought back Sentry in the pages of New Avengers. A masked Star-Lord was featured on Adi Granov’s cover of Marvel NOW! Point One, but who is this mysterious character in the teaser? Could it be a young Star-Lord?

The trailer for the British remake of Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn’s Pusher has hit the net. The mere fact that Refn is producing this should have you sold on it. I never saw Refn’s original films but the trailer for Luis Prieto’s version looks great. And with Refn involved as an executive producer I highly doubt that it is going to be much different than the original. It definitely has vibe that is similar to Drive. And that’s definitely a good thing.

Based on the edgy and explosive series by visionary director Nicolas Winding Refn (DRIVE), PUSHER stars Richard Coyle as a drug dealer who grows increasingly desperate over the course of a week after a botched deal lands him in the merciless clutches of a ruthless crime lord.  The more desperate his behavior, the more isolated he becomes until there is nothing left standing between him and the bullet his debtors intend to fire his way.

Pusher will be available on VOD and iTunes on September 28th before it hits theaters on October 26th.

To say fans were excited and lost their mind about the appearance of Thanos in Marvel’s The Avengers would be quite an understatement. Even since that scene fans have wondered when we would see the character again.  It was recently confirmed that the mad titan would be appearing again in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and Feige reveals that there are plans that have been set in stone for the character in the future.  MTV recently chatted with the man Marvel Studios Kevin Fiege, and discussed the future of The Avengers big mid-credits surprise.Feige stated:

“There’s a great track record now about lobbing something in at the last moment to get the audience buzzing. Particularly when it came to Thanos, [we knew] that most people in that audience had no idea who that purple guy was — but they could clearly tell he was important, and knew if they asked the two or three people sitting next to them, somebody would know who he was.

Clearly, there’s a purpose to us putting him in the end of that movie. We do have plans for him. I wouldn’t say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other. We succeeded in Phase One because we stuck to our guns and stuck to the plan. That plan took place over many, many years and it ultimately paid off. I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what’s right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.”

Actor Damion Poiter was the man behind Thanos first outing on the big screen but we can most likely expect another actor to play the mad titan in the future. Fiege commented on that briefly:

“I think we feel pretty free to recast. That was cast for literally that one shot. Depending on what the role requires from future movies, we’ll go from there.”

“Suddenly, you have a million people who had never heard of an Infinity Gauntlet or a Mad Titan learning those terms. I love that. I love when the experience goes beyond the movie theater and encourages people to look deeper into our universe. I was equally excited by the notion that people went out and tried shawarma for the first time.”

Pretty sure we all tried shawarma after. Actually, I now even have a place that I go get shawarma. Are you guys ready for Phase Two? And who would you guys like to see play Thanos in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

With Kieron Gillen ending his run on Journey Into Mystery, fans have been wondering just what will happen to Kid Loki. The cover of Marvel NOW! Point One featurs an image of him standing beside Miss America Chavez and Wiccan which led many to speculate that this would be the new cast of Journey Into Mystery (which was later debunked when it was revealed the title would focus on Sif) or that we may be seeing a new Young Avengers series. It starts now! But what is it?Guess we’re going to have to wait until next month to find out!
