Well, it looks like it’s going to be Rick Remender’s year at  New York Comic-Con. Uncanny Avengers is already set to be the big title this year and a panel listing for Dynamite reveals that isn’t all he’s got going on for him there:

Dynamite Entertainment

Sunday, October 14

1A10

Brian Buccellato , Fred Van Lente , Rick Remender

Join Dynamite Entertainment as they unveil their BIGGEST projects from the BEST creators. Featuring an amazing cast of top talent and announcements from Rick (Marvel Now! Uncanny Avengers/Uncanny X-Force) Remender, Fred (Hulk/Archer and Armstrong) Van Lente, Brian (The Flash) Buccellato and more – all of whom will have NEW projects at Dynamite in 2013. Plus special announcement regarding Garth Ennis, Matt Wagner and more new Dynamite project! Each fan attending the panel will also receive a limited edition comic!

I’m definitely not even going to attempt to figure out what he’s going to be doing. But I know that if he’s writing it….well, I am going to be buying it. Thanks Dynamite for adding another book to my ever growing stack.

There are definitely quite a few movies that I am looking forward to next year and one on the top of my list is Jose Padhila’s remake of RoboCop. In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, recent cast addition Aimee Garcia (Dexter)  revealed a little bit about the plot of the film.

“Almost all my scenes are with Gary Oldman. It’s a dream come true. I play Kim. She’s a scientist and her and Gary Oldman help bring Robocop to life. … She has a Ph.D from MIT and is at the forefront of robotic chemistry and physics. This takes place in 2028. She’s a prodigy handpicked by Gary Oldman’s character to work on this first of its kind experiment.

I’ve watched more tech talks than I ever have in my life. I’ve learned so much about the brain. The technical things this girl has to say, I want to make sure I understand what each and everything is. She might be a little bit of a punk too.”

I actually like what I have been hearing about them replacing the team from the original with Gary Oldman and Garcia’s character. It feels like they are going to be the reason behind Alex Murphy holding on to some of his humanity.

In a crime-ridden city, a fatally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.

RoboCop returns to serve and protect August 9, 2013.

Just like with season two, AMC will be releasing webisodes prior to the start of the third season of The Walking Dead with a four part series titled “Cold Storage”. Starting on October 1st we will see the first of four five-minute epidoes that will reveal a new group of characters, actor Daniel Roebuck who you may be remember as Dr. Arzt on Lost, will play one of the key roles.

Cold Storage tells the story of a young man, Chase (played by Josh Stewart), trying to reach his sister in the early days of the zombie apocalypse. He finds temporary shelter in a storage facility run by a former employee named B.J. (Roebuck); however, things are not what they appear.

Last seasons webisodes told the story of the ‘bicycle girl’ that Rick encountered in the premiere episode of the series. So, do you need to catch up on season two? Well, it was also just announced season two of The Walking Dead will be made available on Netflix streaming on September 30th. Get your popcorn and couches ready guys.

NBC is currently developing a drama series based on Midnight, Mass, a Vertigo title from 2002. The title focused on occult experts Adam and Julia Kadmon as a sophisticated, sexy, globe-trotting husband and wife paranormal investigator team – based in Midnight, Massachusetts – that takes on supernatural foes, macabre mysteries and the most frightening creature of all: marriage. Evan Daugherty, who co-wrote Snow White And The Huntsman, will pen the adaptation which will be produced by Warner Bros. TV.

John Rozum, the comic’s creator, will also serve as an executive consultant on the project. This is the second time NBC and Warner Bros. TV are attempting to bring Midnight, Mass. to television. In 2009, they had plans to adapt the comic with a different writing team behind it but it never made it to the pilot stage. But with the success of shows such as Supernatural and Grimm we can most likely expect it to make it to that stage this time around.

Remember that messed up movie The Collector? Well, it got a sequel titled The Collection and the first trailer has been released. The movie is written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (Saw IVVVI, and 3D) and directed by Dunstan. The sequel focuses on a woman who is abducted by a psychopathic killer and taken to a hotel that he has transformed into his own private maze. The film stars Emma Fitzpatrick (The Social Network), Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises), and Christopher McDonald (Oh, its Shooter McGavin).

When Elena’s (Emma Fitzpatrick) friends take her to a secret party at an undisclosed location, she never imagined she would become the latest victim of The Collector, a psychopathic killer. The Collector kidnaps and transports her to an abandoned hotel he’s transformed into his own private maze of torture and death. Upon learning of his daughter’s disappearance, Elena’s wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a group of mercenaries to retrieve her from the vicious grips of The Collector. These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through the gruesome labyrinth. Now, Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena. “The Collection,” directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, is a suspense horror film with nonstop thrills at every turn, starring Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Fitzpatrick (The Social Network), and Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream).

The Collection hits theaters November 30th.

Scott Porter is definitely no stranger to Marvel. Porter was one of the contenders to portray Captain America and has expressed interest in the past in portraying Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. He’s even worked with Marvel before, voicing Scott Summers aka Cyclops in the X-Men anime.  In a recent interview with MTV the actor expressed interest in portraying another of Marvel’s characters.

“Marvel just announced that they’re doing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ which is another property that I love. I read it growing up. I’d love to play Nova.”

I think any kid who gets into the acting business, they have a couple of things that they always wanted to do. For me, it was like, play a war hero; play an athlete, which I’ve gotten to do; die a horrible death in a horror movie, which I’ve gotten to do; and then be a superhero. I’ve marked two things off the list, and I’m working on the others.

Gunn is a unique choice. I think he could be a really great shephard for that property,” added Porter. “I think ‘Guardians’ is going to be a lot of fun. I think it’ll be very cool. I thought the next thing I might try and go after is ‘Heroes for Hire,’ but it looks like ‘Guardians’ is around, so…”

The actor then went on to state that he definitely wants to portray a superhero at one point and that it was one of the things on his to-do list. It’s been rumored that Nova would appear in Guardians Of The Galaxy and I really haven’t though much of it until now. But I honestly wouldn’t be against this one. He obviously knows his source material. What do you guys think?

Some fantastic news for Disney fans today. Disney has announced that production has started today for the upcoming film Saving Mr. Banks, this film follows Walt Disney’s fourteen-year courtship to acquire the film rights to P.L. Travers popular novel, Mary Poppins.

Oscar winning actor Tom Hanks will be portraying the man behind the mouse himself in the upcoming film. This will actually be the first time we see the portrayal of Walt Disney on screen in a dramatic film. Actress Emma Thompson will be playing P.L. Travers, the Australian author behind Mary Poppins. Collin Farrell is also reported to appear in the film as Travers father. Most likely we will see him in make-up and flashback scenes I am assuming.

When Travers travels from London to Hollywood in 1961 to finally discuss Disney’s desire to bring her beloved character to the motion picture screen (a quest he began in the 1940s as a promise to his two daughters), Disney meets a prim, uncompromising sexagenarian not only suspect of the impresario’s concept for the film, but a woman struggling with her own past. During her stay in California, Travers’ reflects back on her childhood in 1906 Australia, a trying time for her family which not only molded her aspirations to write, but one that also inspired the characters in her 1934 book.

None more so than the one person whom she loved and admired more than any other—her caring father, Travers Goff, a tormented banker who, before his untimely death that same year, instills the youngster with both affection and enlightenment (and would be the muse for the story’s patriarch, Mr. Banks, the sole character that the famous nanny comes to aide). While reluctant to grant Disney the film rights, Travers comes to realize that the acclaimed Hollywood storyteller has his own motives for wanting to make the film—which, like the author, hints at the relationship he shared with his own father in the early 20th Century Midwest.

The film also features Jason Schwartzman, BJ Novak, Paul Giamatti, Bradley Whitford, Kathy Baker, Rachel Griffiths and many others. Saving Mr. Banks will be directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, The Rookie) based on a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. You should definitely expect this one to be one of those heart felt movies. A 2013 release date is expected but no specific date has been set.

28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later to this day are some of my favorite movies. I honestly consider them some of the best “zombie” movies of the past decade. While promoting Dredd 3D, Alex Garland the writer behind Dredd 3D as well as the 28 Days movies, was asked if we would ever see the rumored 28 Months Later. Garland stated:

I’m still so proud of 28 Days Later and how well it’s been received over the years so I appreciate that. But in regards to another movie, no- there are no plans for a 28 Months Later or whatever they were calling it. This is a series I’ve always been heavily involved with between the original and the sequel so if there were plans for another movie, I would absolutely know about it.

While we won’t be getting another 28 Days movie do yourselves a favor and check out Alex  Garland’s latest work on Friday when Dredd 3D hits theaters.

Whatever Marvel has up their sleeve for this December’s issue #700 of The Amazing Spider-Man is supposed to be huge. So huge in fact that Marvel are ending the series with that issue. There’s been no word as far as if the series is getting a relaunch as part of Marvel NOW! yet. Dan Slott has previously stated that the events of the issue are so major that he will have to go into hiding once it hits stands. And now the waiting game begins.

Jeff Wadlow’s KICK-ASS 2 is currently filming and plenty of set photos have been leaking their way online. Now a new set of photos have made their way online giving us a first  full on look at Donald Faison as Dr. Gravity, Clark Duke as Battle-Guy and Aaron Taylor-Johnson back in his Kick-Ass costume. The pictures also give us a small look at the mother and father crime fighters “Remembering Tommy” as well as Insect-Man in them. Wow, they all pretty much look like their comic book counterparts, minus some minor changes to Insect-Man, which is pretty kick-ass. Pun fully intended.

At this year’s Marvel Ultimate Comics panel at San Diego Comic-Con we were shown a number of covers for upcoming issues with issue number 16 of Ultimate Comics Ultimates blacked out. They assured us something big was about to go down. Well, it seems that The Washington Post has revealed a very massive spoiler by showing the cover for issue number 16 and keep in mind 15 doesn’t hit shelves until tomorrow. Recently in the Ultimate Comics line during the Divided We Fall storyline, we have seen America destroyed, ripped apart into warring groups of states, and just general anarchy all over the map. In the most recent issue of Ultimate Comics X-Men we saw the beginning of United We Stand which will see a major event occur in the next two issue’s of Ultimate Comics The Ultimates.

Yup, you’re seeing this right. Captain America is going to become the President Of The United States.

“We wanted to dramatize an extreme version of what we see in America today,” Ultimates writer Sam Humphries says. “In the face of all [this] divisiveness, what do we have in common? What does it mean to be an American? What can we agree on? And what makes America the place that it is?”

And what are the consequences, Humphries asks, of “the nation dissolving in front of our eyes?”

“This is a United States that’s being torn asunder by special interest groups — by opportunists looking to divide and conquer,” Marvel Entertainment Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso says in an exclusive to The Washington Post. “This is a metaphor for what goes on in real life, but on steroids.”

Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #15 is on sale tomorrow and will definitely be an issue you want to pick up.

ShockTillYouDrop recently spoke with director Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods) about the blu-ray and DVD release of the film. During the interview he was asked if the opportunity arose, which Marvel comics character would he like to develop a film for. The director didn’t name any specific character but did go on to say it’s all about what the right fit is. And we may have an idea on what would be the right fit for him.

“What Marvel character would I not love to get on? That’s an easier question to answer. I would love any of it and I love Marvel, Joss and what they’re doing. It’s all about finding the right fit. Directing, in order to do your job right, you have to find ways to make it personal, and if we can find the right fit, then I would love to do it.”

Look, we’re just throwing this out there. In the past Goddard has talked about his love for Daredevil. Marvel is about to get those rights back. The guy has collaborated with Joss Whedon before. He can definitely direct a great movie. What more reason do you need for this one? By the way if you haven’t seen Cabin In The Woods, do yourselves a favor and pick it up tomorrow on DVD or Blu-ray.

In a very disappointing turn of events, the director behind the critically acclaimed Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Rupert Wyatt has chosen not to return to direct the sequel. It appears the director has chosen to not return for the highly-anticipated sequel titled Dawn Of The Planet of the Apes due to not wanting to rush out the film for  20th Century Fox’s May 23rd, 2014 release date. A very similar reason to Gary Ross’s choice to not return to direct The Hunger Games sequel. Fox has not commented yet but an announcement should probably be expected soon. So, who do you guys think can fill Wyatt’s role for the sequel?

This past Saturday during his panel at Comikaze, Max Landis (Chronicle) revealed that he had sold a television show but could not yet reveal the details. Well, the details have been revealed and Fox has picked up Vigilant a superhero police drama that will be penned by Landis and produced by Howard Gordon (Homeland).

The series that revolves around a twenty-year-old woman who takes on the persona of a crime fighting vigilante in order to take down criminals and flush out corruption from within the police department.

Landis tweeted earlier:

It looks like Landis has even more on his plate now than he already did with him currently working on the sequel to Chronicle, the upcoming Frankenstein project as well as penning Space Mountain for Disney. You can check out some details on those projects here. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more news hits for Vigilant.

With Uncanny X-Force coming to an end with issue #35 and the recent announcement of Cable & X-Force it seemed as if the book was done. Well, don’t worry Uncanny X-Force fans because the title is returning with a new creative team and line-up! Sam Humphries (Ultimate Comics Ultimates) and artist Ron Garney (Ghost Rider) will be relaunching one of Marvel’s best titles. I am actually glad to hear this news because I was quite worried about who would taking over on this title if they relaunched it but have complete faith in Humphries writing this. Humphries recently spoke about taking over on the title with ComicsAlliance.

When asked where he would see his run fitting into the people who have worked on X-Force books into the past that seemed to be outside of the core X-titles:

Yeah, absolutely. One of my favorite things about this book, not just working on it but reading it over the years, is that it delivers a story that you can’t find in any other X-Book. Theres’s a combination of characters and character dynamics, and they go out and find and deal with situations and beings and all sorts of dark secrets that you can’t find anywhere else. Through the different incarnations, we’ve seen that implemented in different ways. You have the Rob Liefeld paramilitary extreme version, you have the wacked-out, nearly psychedelic Milligan/Allred version, you’ve got Rick Remender doing his thing with questions of killing and murder and when it’s okay and when it isn’t.

Even though it’s a definition, it gives you a lot of room to move within that definition. There’s a lot of different things that you can pick apart in the Marvel Universe, and specifically the mutant universe, that aren’t ever really addressed in the main book. It’s a huge opportunity to do some cool things, new things, to get people excited and present the whole mutant world in a new light.

When asked about the line-up and if it was going to be the same group in Remender’s run:

No, it’s not. This is not any cast that I think anyone can say they’ve ever seen before. This is not a classic Wolverine, Rogue, Colossus line-up. It’s definitely a new mix of characters thrown together in ways that they really have never encountered each other before.

The group that we start off with right off the bat is Psylocke, Storm, Puck and Spiral, and we have a few more characters joining the group in the first few issues. In my mind, all those characters are wild cards. They’re all strong personalities, they’re all strong in terms of their powers, they’ve all got dark secrets and they’ve all got a rebellious streak. That to me is a really attractive part of the book, being able to balance all those character dynamics at once.

On the topic of the focus of the title being on Psylocke:

She’s been through the machine in more ways than one, you know? In the comics, she’s been through a lot. In real life, she’s been handled by a bunch of different writers, some of whom take her in opposite directions. In both cases, I think it’s fair to say that Psylocke is a survivor. She’s someone who rises above her complicated past and the tragedy and figures out what’s best for Betsy.

I can’t spoil anything, but at the end of Rick’s run, we leave Betsy in one situation, and in the first issue of my run, we pick up six months later, and Betsey is definitely in a life transition point. It’s kind of being in that moment that kicks off the events of that first arc.

Regarding the pressure of doing this after how praised Remender’s work was:

Hell yeah there’s pressure. The other book I write for Marvel is following up Jonathan Hickman on the Ultimates, so it seems to be a pattern at this point that I just have to figure out how to fill pretty big shoes on really excellent titles. This is not a Jack Kirby walking into DC’s office and saying “give me your lowest selling title” situation. It’s intimidating.

X-Force has been one of my favorite books since before Marvel even knew my name. I’ve been loving the sh** out of Rick’s run, and Rick and I have known each other for years. He was very open, very generous with his notes and his thoughts about where to go, and his experiences writing the book. But the thing about Rick’s run, and I can say this because I know what happens, is that Rick nails the end of his run. Kills it. His whole run on Uncanny X-Force is a complete story, it has a beginning, a middle and an end. I love his run enough to respect that and acknowledge it, but I also love it enough to leave it alone.

Nobody wants to see me try and continue X-Force as a watered-down version of Rick Remender. Rick asked questions in the book and addressed them. There’s nothing left for me to continue, but it would not be an enjoyable experience for anyone involved, for the readers, for Rick, for me or for Marvel. No one would come out pleased. This spins directly out of the events of Rick’s run, but it takes the concept of X-Force, the mandate of the book and the characters down a new path with a new focus.

Why he decided he is  going to stay away from plot elements such as Apocalypse and Otherworld:

I wouldn’t say it’s a conscious boycott by any means, but I read Rick’s stuff with Apocalypse and I’m like “Damn, he did it.” Slam dunk. I don’t really have anything to add to that right now, nor, I think, is anyone asking me to add to it right now. “The Dark Angel” saga f***in’ kicks ass, you know?

That’s not to say that if, down the road, I had an idea for a good Apocalypse story, I wouldn’t do it. It’s like the difference between having Bruce Springsteen onstage and a Bruce Springsteen marionette onstage. It makes everything look terrible. So right off the bat, I’m focused on a new status quo for this team, a new line-up. It’s a new #1, a new focus, and we have new things to address. The most important things I take from Rick’s legacy are just writing the hell out of the book.

I’m gonna write it like I stole it, basically.

Rick did not yield or stop at any stop signs in his run. It’s ruthless and compelling and exciting, and those are the things we’re going to take. That’s the kind of mandate you get when you hop on X-Force. They’ve got all the mainstream X-Men stuff handled, you know? You have Bendis and Jason Aaron steering the X-Men ship, they don’t need a knockoff of that or someone doing that with a different set of characters. My job is to deliver stories and surprises and excitement and experiences that you can’t get anywhere else.

Doing some promo work for the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release for Marvel’s The Avengers Blu-ray and DVD release, Marvel co-president, Louis D’Esposito, discussed the studios upcoming projects and revealed a bit of information about Ant-Man as well as when we can expect to see the trailer for Shane Black’s Iron Man 3.

When he was asked about Wright’s Ant-Man test reel that was shown at this years San Diego Comic-Con that was recently revealed to be getting polished up to be released to the public, D’Esposito stated:

“Yes, I think so. Edgar is just adding the finishing touches and then we will once again make the final visual effects editing. The process is almost complete. Then we will decide when and how we can make it available to the fans. We are more than happy with it. He’s a great filmmaker and we look forward to.

I was there when he made the test reel. I now know how it works and it’s going very methodical and planned. First, he designed the concept, then the storyboard, then he produced an animatic, so he knows exactly what he’ll turn. Every morning we visited him, and he had added new material, which we then looked at together. He is a passionate filmmaker and it that’s contagious. We’ve only looked at it yesterday and every time we see it, then we think, ‘Wow! We can not wait to make this film!’”

Then came the subject of the actual Ant-Man film, which is rumored to begin filming next year after director Edgar Wright completes his next film At World’s End, D’Esposito was asked if we would see the film as part of Phase Two to which he replied:

“I’m not sure, so I can not make a definitive statement. Once we know the more accurate schedule, we will make this announcement publicly.”

Then came the subject of the footage fans are patiently waiting to see, the trailer for Iron Man 3. So, when will a trailer be released?

“I [don’t?] have the exact date…it’s just not ready. But I think it is mid to late October, you can watch a first teaser trailer.”

Even though I have already seen the footage from San Diego I can’t wait for it to be released and watch them over and over again. I actually can’t wait for Phase Two to start…can you?

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Aimee Garcia, who you may know best for joining the cast of Dexter last season as Jamie Batista, is the most recent addition to the cast of Jose Padilha’s remake, Garcia will be playing “a scientist who helps put together the RoboCop with his creator, played by Gary Oldman.” She joins a quite impressive cast for what is sure to be one of the biggest movies of next year.

RoboCop returns to serve and protect on August 9th, 2013.

Today marked the final day of Comikaze in Los Angeles and we saw Stan “The Man” Lee do a little bit of Q&A on the main stage. During which one fan asked which cameo was his favorite that he has done in all of the Marvel movies. They also made sure to state that he couldn’t answer with “all of them”.

Stan replied stating that up until now his current favorite was the one that he did for the The Amazing Spider-Man. But then Stan went on to reveal why that one just may not be his favorite anymore.

“…but the cameo I just recently did for the movie Iron-Man 3 which I really think is my greatest cameo yet, I will actually be acting in that one!”

It won’t be the first time Stan’s appeared in a movie as an acting role but definitely will be his first time in Marvel role without just a one-liner. So, are you guys ready to see Stan steal the spotlight from Robert Downey Jr.?

Well, it seems that the CW’s Arrow is going to go at it with more villains ripped straight from the pages of DC comics. We’ve previously learned that he’d be dealing with Deadshot, Deathstroke, Chyna White, and now The Royal Flush Gang have been confirmed to appear on the show. They will be debuting in an episode titled ‘Legacies’, which most likely means that probably we won’t be seeing the groups origin in the series. While the full gang has yet to be revealed the gang already does have a confirmed ‘Ace’ up their sleeve.

Actor Kyle Schmid (The Covenant) will be portraying Ace in the show’s version of the Royal Flush Gang. Zap2It reports that his real name is Kyle Preston, which is a slight deviation from the Android Ace of the second generation Royal Flush Gang. Whether or not he will be an android has yet to be revealed.

It feels like it was just yesterday that word broke that a third chapter in The Boondock Saints franchise was on the way. Oh, wait it was yesterday. Are you excited to see the MacManus brothers return again? Well, you probably shouldn’t be.

There was a Boondock Saints panel at Comikaze today in Los Angeles and when the subject of the third film came up stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus revealed that they won’t be returning for it. They cited their reasons as creative differences and that Troy Duffy would be “going a different direction with the franchise”. So, they are doing a third one but without the stars? Let’s see how well that does.

I guess that meeting that they had this week with Duffy didn’t go so well? I mean it’s not like Reedus is hurting for the work at the moment. He does have that little zombie show on AMC.

Just earlier today set photos leaked online from RoboCop giving a first look at the new suit. So, I am going to go ahead and say this and I await the backlash. But the new RoboCop suit is fucking bad ass in my opinion. Well, one of the new suits that is being that there is more than one in the movie. Remember that part guys. Here’s an even better look at the new suit as well as some more set photos including the first look at his new car thanks the guys at Bleeding Cool.

An up close look at the suit:

He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

RoboCop is hitting theaters August of 2013.

Today at Comikaze Max Landis hosted a panel where he revealed a few details about his upcoming Frankenstein project, a yet unannounced Disney movie and the upcoming sequel to Chronicle. Or should we say sequels?

“Did you guys like Chronicle? Well, Chronicle 2 is going to be even better.”

Landis also, even though doing it on accident, confirmed there are not only plans for a sequel but a third movie. He also revealed that they would be sticking to the found footage for the next movies. Landis stated that he “didn’t really show us anything” meaning that there may be more to the first movie than we originally saw because we only saw what Andrew showed us.

In the sequel we won’t be seeing any new characters with powers and we should possibly expect to have some different opinions on characters from the first film. Andrew’s dad may return but re-writes may see that change.

Landis also spoke about his upcoming Frankenstein project and assures that his Frankenstein is the best work he’s ever written and that it’s “not a monster movie”. He went on to talk about how Igor isn’t actually in the books or movies and how he’s going to include him in the movie because people are already expecting it.

“Instead of making the accurate version. What if I write a version that everyone already thinks exists. And I do the best cool version of it.”

“Igor is the main character. Hey guys, Igor may be Daniel Radcliff.”

Landis also revealed that his untitled project for Disney that he’s working on is Space Mountain. Yup, you read that right. Like the ride. It’s something that Disney has never done before…oh, wait. Let’s just not use Johnny Depp in this one too okay guys?

If somehow you haven’t heard by now actor Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will be playing Sam Wilson aka The Falcon in the highly anticipated sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. I don’t think it was ever officially confirmed prior to now but this was definitely the role he was speculated to be playing. The actor recently spoke with News Day and revealed that it’s a “huge honor” for him to be portraying the first African-American superhero in mainstream comics as well as playing a character in which his son, nephews and nieces could all idolize.

I’m playing the Falcon. He’s this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His plane crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers. He’s the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I’ve done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as the Falcon on Halloween. They now have someone they can idolize. That’s a huge honor for me.

You can actually check out Mackie’s latest movie, 10 years, in theaters this weekend.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters April 4th, 2014

Universal Pictures has reveal the official plot synopsis for the upcoming 2 Guns, which is based on Steven Grant’s graphic novel of the same name and published by Boom! Studios. The movie, that is currently in production at the moment, is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband) and starring Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington as well as Paula Patton, James Marsden, Bill Paxton, Fred Ward and Edward James Olmos.

Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lead an all-star cast in 2 Guns, an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent.

For the past 12 months, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down.

When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Trench and Stigman are suddenly disavowed by their superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way.

2 Guns hits theaters August 16th, 2013.

Could the cast of Jonathan Hickman’s New Avengers be an incarnation of Marvel’s The Illuminati? At least Skottie Young’s variant for the issue would imply this being that Black Bolt, Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic were all member of the group. And if you’re unfamiliar with the group:

The “Illuminati” was a secret organization comprised of several of the world’s most powerful heroes: Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange; Black Bolt, King of the Inhumans; Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men and mutant rights activist; Reed Richards, founding member of the Fantastic Four; Namor the Sub-Mariner, King of Atlantis; and Iron Man (Anthony Stark), founding member of the Avengers. These six men worked together for an unspecified amount of time to mold and shape the status of the superhuman world and the world around it.

Minus Black Panther each member on this cover was a member of this group. Could they be re-uniting after the events of AvX? I guess only time will tell but this is definitely an interesting line-up to put together for an Avengers title.
