Norm Harper‘s roots in nerd culture run deep. For proof, just check out his house.

“I actually have a custom Lego city in a permanent state in my house where I built Ghostbusters and GI Joe and M.A.S.K. and Masters of the Universe and all that living together in a little city,” Harper told Geekscape in a telephone interview.

Harper tapped into his love for the pop culture of the 1980s for his latest project. His four-issue miniseries, The Sequels, recently was announced by Fanbase Press.

Harper expounded on the project, which he described as a mash-up of The Breakfast Club and The Avengers.

“This is the story of four people who, in 2019, are in their early 40s but back in the 1980s they were each sort of the protagonist in their own Spielberg-style movie adventure story,” Harper explained. “Now they’ve grown up, and they’re actually meeting for the first time … they discover a way to tap back into the adventures that they had before.”

Once the protagonists meet as grown-ups, the shenanigans begin in earnest in this action-comedy miniseries.

Along the way, Harper dives rather deep into the entire subject of nostalgia.

“It’s a little bit of a very bittersweet look at nostalgia and how it can impact your life,” he said. “My whole generation is holding more tightly to things from childhood than any generation before it. …I certainly approached it with a great deal of reverence and love for the things that I was going to homage. At a certain level, you have to put that aside to make the story work. You have to be willing to find the drama within that.”

After moving to Los Angeles and trying to carve out a career as a screenplay writer, Harper turned back to his childhood love of comics and hasn’t looked back. In 2017, he was nominated for an Eisner Award in the Best Publication for Kids (age 9-12) category for Rikki, a comic adaptation of the classic Rudyard Kipling short story, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.

“I enjoy comic writing a lot more, because I usually know who my artist is going to be at some point during the process. The comic script can just be a letter to the artist. You can be a lot less formal. You can literally just say, ‘Here’s a link to what I’m trying to reference.’ … it’s like I’m making something with a friend.”

According to a press release from Fanbase announcing the series, it will be available first digitally through Comixology with an approximate launch date some time in February of 2019. A printed TPB will follow, scheduled for a July 2019 release. Pre-order your trade paperback now through www.fanbasepress.com and receive an exclusive set of prints representing each of the four covers.

The final TanoshiiCon Panel finally sees the light of day. In this final panel Scott and I discuss One Slash Wonders. We break down various films that deserved Sequels but never got them and why.

Whether you love it or you hated it, Prometheus was definitely a box office hit this summer. The film grossed $402 million globally and with the DVD/Blu-ray hitting shelves this week…it’s definitely going to be making some more pocket change. So, of course we are getting a sequel. And even if you hated Prometheus, you’re probably going to see the sequel. Director Ridley Scott recently spoke with Metro and gave a small update on what we should expect to see next:

“Prometheus evolved into a whole other universe. You’ve got a person [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [ Michael Fassbender’s David] that functions and has an IQ of 350. It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she’s gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he’s dangerous. They’re going off to paradise but it could be the most savage, horrible place. Who are the Engineers?”

The Blade Runner sequel also came up in the chat. Scott addressed his involvement with the film as well as further confirming that Deckard was definitely a replicant.

“It’s not a rumour – it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage.”

I’m actually looking forward to both of these especially if Scott is going to be directing the Blade Runner sequel. I’m also very curious if they’re going to tie together after that interesting note that seemed to tie the films together. But let’s not jump too ahead of ourselves here.

Today at Comikaze Max Landis hosted a panel where he revealed a few details about his upcoming Frankenstein project, a yet unannounced Disney movie and the upcoming sequel to Chronicle. Or should we say sequels?

“Did you guys like Chronicle? Well, Chronicle 2 is going to be even better.”

Landis also, even though doing it on accident, confirmed there are not only plans for a sequel but a third movie. He also revealed that they would be sticking to the found footage for the next movies. Landis stated that he “didn’t really show us anything” meaning that there may be more to the first movie than we originally saw because we only saw what Andrew showed us.

In the sequel we won’t be seeing any new characters with powers and we should possibly expect to have some different opinions on characters from the first film. Andrew’s dad may return but re-writes may see that change.

Landis also spoke about his upcoming Frankenstein project and assures that his Frankenstein is the best work he’s ever written and that it’s “not a monster movie”. He went on to talk about how Igor isn’t actually in the books or movies and how he’s going to include him in the movie because people are already expecting it.

“Instead of making the accurate version. What if I write a version that everyone already thinks exists. And I do the best cool version of it.”

“Igor is the main character. Hey guys, Igor may be Daniel Radcliff.”

Landis also revealed that his untitled project for Disney that he’s working on is Space Mountain. Yup, you read that right. Like the ride. It’s something that Disney has never done before…oh, wait. Let’s just not use Johnny Depp in this one too okay guys?

I don’t know how these movies are still getting made. I stopped watching them after I see the first one but for those of you who love you some Paranormal Activity here’s the teaser trailer preview to hold you over until the actual teaser comes out:

Paranormal Activity 4 opens October 19th.

Recently Bill Murray appeared on Letterman stating that he would be open to making a third ‘Ghostbusters’ but he didn’t feel that the scripts so far were right. Murray stated “You know, you just gotta have a really good script. It’s hard. Even the second ‘Ghostbusters’ wasn’t as much fun for me as the first one. It’s hard to make a sequel. It’s gotta be really funny, and that first one was just so darn funny.” And it looks like Dan Akroyd was listening and is working hard to make it happen.

The last writers to work on the script were Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. This team brought us the great ‘Year One’ and ‘Bad Teacher’. Okay no more sarcasm from this point on.

During a recent interview at an WNY event Akroyd stated “We’ve got a new writing staff working on it now. It’s got to be prefect. That’s the whole thing. There’s no point in doing it unless it’s perfect. So that’s what we’re up to now.”

This project has been in talks for quite some time now. Do you think we will ever see it go into production? Or will one of the cast be ghosts by the time it comes around?

An interesting piece of news that while unconfirmed could be entirely true. Showbiz 411 is reporting that James Cameron will shoot not one but three sequels to ‘Avatar’. The interesting part? He’s shooting them all back to back.

When “Political Animals” finishes shooting, see if you can follow Weaver’s schedule: she goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films “Avatar” 2,3,and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take,or how it’s going to work. “I just show up,” she said.

Do we really need three sequels to ‘Avatar’ though?

Troma is mostly known for it’s mascot the Toxic Avenger. However Class Nuke ’em High was actually their most successful film in the world of VHS. The original is a fun horror/teen flick about the affects of nuclear waste on high school students. The Sequels however are garbage, at least in part due to Lloyd Kafuman’s lack of involvement.

Well Lloyd is back in the director’s chair for the 4th installment RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH and they are looking for the next Troma star (this will likely involve being underpaid and underworked, but gaining a place in Troma’s cult following). Casting Starts tomorrow and if you want to be involve email the troma team at nukeemhighcasting@gmail.com

Here’s Lloyd begging you for support from the cardboard box he calls home
