‘Game Of Thrones’ Finn Jones Is Danny Rand In ‘Iron Fist’!

Briefly: We’re still waiting for confirmation from Marvel and/or Netflix, but EW reports that the Netflix Iron Fist series has found its Danny Rand.

Finn Jones, who portrays Ser Loras Tyrell has apparently been cast as our main man in the anticipated, as yet mysterious series.

Marvel describes the series as: “Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”

Little is know about Iron Fist at this point, including when we’ll actually be able to feast our hungry eyes on it, but in any case, color us excited!

For now, you can re-watch the amazing Daredevil trailer from earlier today, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see in Iron Fist!

Check Out The ‘Spider-Man’ Shortlist!

Sony has narrowed down their choices for the role of Peter Parker in the next live-action Spider-Man movie and is expected to make test offers in the coming weeks. The actors left to contend for the role include Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Asa Butterfield (Hugo), Tom Holland (The Impossible), Timothee Chalamet (Homeland, Interstellar) and Liam James (The Way, Way Back), among others.

The new Spider-Man is expected to have a cameo in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War but the character won’t be needed on set until June.

Sony and Marvel had no comment regarding the shortlist.

I’m leaning towards wanting Holland or Chalamet. Who are you guys cheering for? Let us know in the comments below?

First Cast Photo of Suicide Squad!

David Ayer tweeted a picture of the Suicide Squad cast who had gathered for the first read through of the script.

Amongst those photographed are Cara Develigne as Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, and Will Smith as Deadshot.

Uh. Guys, where’s Jared Leto?

The villain heavy film is based on the DC comic about a team of imprisoned super-villains who perform dangerous missions for the U.S. Government in exchange for lessened sentences. Suicide Squad is set for a Summer 2016 release!

Hawkgirl & Rip Hunter Cast For CW’s Arrow / The Flash Spinoff!

Briefly: Today is apparently a hot day for spinoff news. First, The Walking Dead spinoff Fear the Walking Dead received its first short but sweet teaser trailer, and now both Hawkgirl and Rip Hunter have been cast for The CW’s Arrow / The Flash spinoff.

Law and Order: SVU guest and Broadway star Ciara Renée has been cast as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl in the upcoming (and anticipated) as yet untitled series.  Deadline notes that Saunders “is a young woman who is just beginning to learn that she has been repeatedly reincarnated over the centuries. When provoked, her ancient warrior persona manifests itself, along with wings that grow out of her back, earning her the moniker Hawkgirl.”

Doctor Who alum Arthur Darvill has also joined the project, and will portray Rip Hunter, “a roguish time traveler who hides the strains of being responsible for history itself behind a facade of charm and wit.”

It’s also noted that the series is set to feature three DC characters that we haven’t yet seen on TV, with Darvill’s Rip Hunter being the first announced. The two join already revealed returning characters, like Brandon Routh’s The Atom, Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell’s Heat Wave, and more.

‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Set 30 Years After ‘Return Of The Jedi’

Briefly: The rumour mill has been rampant, but today we finally got some sold news from the Star Wars Episode VII front.

During an earnings call today, Disney’s Bob Iger revealed that the film would star a trio of young leads, and be set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

No further details were revealed, including just what the hell the film will be about.

The revelation was confirmed via the official Star Wars twitter account:

‘Girls’ Star Adam Driver To Play The Villain In ‘Star Wars Episode VII’?

About a month ago, it was widely rumored that ‘Girls’ star Adam Driver was being circled by Warner Bros. as a casting choice for Dick Grayson/Robin in Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ sequel. That rumor has since fizzled out but it did put Driver on many geeks radar (unless they were already ‘Girls’ fans like our very own Shane “Rarity” O’Hare).

Well, now geeks have reason to reintroduce themselves to the actor as Variety reports Driver is close to signing on to play the villain in ‘Star Wars Episode VII’. Other actors rumored for a villain role (if not the villain role) include Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving so some powerful people are really swinging hard for the 30 year old actor. I’m all for the casting of a relative unknown (hey, Hayden Christensen was not one of the problems with with the Prequels) and look forward to seeing this new iteration of the Star Wars sage come together. Hopefully, Driver, J.J. and the rest of the Disney crew can make things right in the Star Wars cinematic universe again for all Star Wars geeks!

Class Nuke’em High Is Getting a New Sequel – JOIN THE CAST!

Troma is mostly known for it’s mascot the Toxic Avenger. However Class Nuke ’em High was actually their most successful film in the world of VHS. The original is a fun horror/teen flick about the affects of nuclear waste on high school students. The Sequels however are garbage, at least in part due to Lloyd Kafuman’s lack of involvement.

Well Lloyd is back in the director’s chair for the 4th installment RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH and they are looking for the next Troma star (this will likely involve being underpaid and underworked, but gaining a place in Troma’s cult following). Geekscape Casts The Invincible Movie!

Between the increased interest in comic book adaptations and the success of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman is poised to become a real force in Hollywood. So it’s only a matter of time before we see a film version of Kirkman’s other hit comic Invincible.

With the right cast, it could be the next blockbuster franchise. So who would Geekscape like to see bring to life probably the coolest superhero comic book in the universe?

ZAC EFRON as INVINCIBLE

If only the goggles didn't hide those eyes...

Boyish good looks, perfect body, earnest eyes- has there ever been anyone more suited to play a superhero than Zac Efron? The High School Musical heartthrob has yet to find the role to propel him to super-stardom. Playing nascent hero Mark Grayson would require him to display both vulnerability and raw power.

For those who have their doubts about Efron’s acting chops, check out his charming performance in the little-seen Me and Orson Welles.

 

LYNDSY FONSECA as ATOM EVE

Pink is my favorite color...

Neither a female iteration of a male character nor a mere damsel in distress, Atom Eve has quickly become one of the strongest women in comics, and Lyndsy Fonseca is the perfect choice to convey that strength on film. Fonseca effortlessly lit up the screen as the girl next door in Kick-Ass, begging the question, “Wouldn’t it be more fun just to watch her kick ass?”

 

JON HAMM as OMNI-MAN

The moustache is fake. The rest is all Hamm.

Besides being the only man alive handsome enough to be credible as Zac Efron’s dad, Jon Hamm is also one of the finest actors working today. In the past few years, fans have suggested Hamm for the roles of both Superman and Captain America for the same reason he is perfect to play Nolan Grayson, the premier super hero of the world of Invincible: the steel authority he personifies in The Town and Mad Men.

 

BEBE NEUWIRTH as DEBORAH GRAYSON

Mom I'd Like to Film- wait, that still sounds bad.

Rounding out the best-looking family in movie history, Bebe Neuwirth is ideal to play Mark’s doting mother and Nolan’s long-suffering wife. The Emmy-winning actress is more than capable of portraying the pride and pain of the ultimate bystander.

 

PETER WELLER as CECIL STEADMAN

A former superhero himself, Weller has been alternating between good guy and sleazeball his entire career. The role of ruthless patriot Cecil Steadman would allow him to split the difference.

Friday the 13th 2: Attack of the Clones

Kane Hodder played Jason Voorhees, the ultimate grunt, in four Friday the 13th films. He would be both fun and intimidating in a Social Network-style dual role as the contrary clones.

Funnyman Jones is one of those actors whose chameleonic range has kept him from becoming a household name. Playing nice guy scientist-turned-mutated villain Levy would give him the chance to show both his affability and acting chops.

Geekscape Casts The ‘Y: The Last Man’ Movie

New Line Cinema has had the film rights to Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s beloved comic series Y: The Last Man for over 4 years. But despite a script by Vaughan and reported interest from multiple directors, the project has remained in limbo. I can’t tell you  if the movie will ever get made, but I can tell you who we would like to see in it!

ADAM BRODY as YORICK BROWN

Yorick Brown is an everyman. Literally. As the lone survivor of the complete elimination of Earth’s males, Yorick is every man left on the planet. So who can capture the dorky charm of the verbose slacker magician faced with the saving the world?

How about Adam Brody, who played loveable nerd trying to find his masculine identity on 6 seasons of The OC? The reliable actor proved he can carry an entire movie as the star of 2007’s aptly titled In the Land of Women.

TRACIE THOMS as AGENT 355

The woman known only as 355 becomes the most important woman in the world when she is tasked with shepherding the last man across the country. Tracie Thoms blew us away as sassy stuntwoman and protective pal Kim in Quentin Tarantino’s grindhouse homage Death Proof. She has the hardness and the heart to play Yorick’s enigmatic bodyguard and constant companion.

LUCY LIU as DR. ALISON MANN

Lucy Liu may not actually be of Sino-Japanese heritage like cloning expert Mann, but she has been playing women of the doctor’s intelligence and strength with effortless grace for years. She also played a bit of a lunatic in the indie rom-com Watching the Detectives, which means she has the experience to play Mann’s more obsessive side.

AMY ACKER as HERO BROWN

Yorick’s wayward sister Hero has her own journey to parallel Yorick’s and must be played by someone who can be both wounded and warlike, both hero and villain. Amy Acker has the talent to capture Hero’s dual nature; she has played characters who have gone through instant and extreme transformations in both Angel and Dollhouse.

 SARAH ROEMER as BETH DEVILLE

Would-be fiance Beth doesn’t appear much in Yorick’s story, but she does provide much of his motivation. Fired Up‘s Sarah Roemer has the effusive spirit and classic good looks to make an audience fall in love with her in a short amount of screen time.

BRITTANY SNOW as BETH 2

One of the few friendly faces Yorick meets along the way, the other Beth both shelters and tempts the last man. Showing a large range over a short career in films such as The Pacifier and The Vicious Kind, Brittany Snow has been both as vulnerable and as tough as survivor Beth.

GINA BELLMAN as ALTER TSE’ELON

Israeli commando Alter leads a squad sent to abduct the last man, but is it for her own personal motives? She is a complex and compelling villain. Every role Gina Bellman takes is a challenge, from the lunatic Jane in Coupling to gender-switching Sydney in Zerophilia. The versatile actress isn’t from Israel, but she is good with accents, as evidenced in her portrayal of grifter Sophie on TNT’s Leverage.

CRYSTAL THE MONKEY as AMPERSAND

It may seem an odd choice to cast a female to play one of the only two remaining males on the planet, but capuchin Crystal is definitely up for the challenge. The animal actress is quickly turning into a major star of the big and small screen, with major roles in Night at the Museum and The Hangover 2 and a recurring stint on Community.

Geekscape Casts The ‘X-Factor’ Movie!

With the financial and critical success of X-Men: First Class breathing new life into the franchise, Fox is almost certainly on the lookout for the next breakout title in Marvel’s extended mutant family. I have no idea how writers might squeeze the convoluted continuity of Peter David’s super-powered detective agency into the confused canon of the film universe, but I do know who I’d like to see in an X-Factor movie.

JOSHUA JACKSON as MULTIPLE MAN

Over the past few years, Peter David has made Jamie Madrox one of the most complicated and interesting characters in comics. Madrox has used his simple ability to create duplicates of himself to learn several lifetimes’ worth of skills, which he uses to investigate mutant-related crime.

Joshua Jackson naturally exudes Madrox’s boyish charm and disdain for authority. He is also credible as a man of varied talents; he’s in his fourth season playing jack of all trades Peter Bishop on Fox’s sci-fi drama Fringe.

 

BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD as SIREN

Not only is Howard the spitting image of Theresa Cassidy, but growing up in the shadow of her famous father gives her an emotional inroad to play Banshee’s daughter. She can also scream with the best of them, as evidenced in last year’s The Help. Plus, she is a bona fide nerd, having publicly declared her love of the Luna Brothers’ The Sword.

 

PAULA PATTON as MONET

Monet St. Croix hit the genetic jackpot: flight, super strength, invulnerability, mind-reading, AND the looks of a supermodel. Paula Patton can definitely pull off the looks aspect but also proved she could balance emotion and action in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

 

PAUL “BIG SHOW” WIGHT as STRONG GUY

No ordinary man could fill the over-sized shoes of Guido Carosella (whose code name is a joke that stuck), but the Big Show is far from ordinary. The 7-ft, 200-lb wrestler might actually look believable lifting a car AND he can act, recently carrying the entire feature Knucklehead on his broad shoulders.

 

KELLY MACDONALD as WOLFSBANE

Boardwalk Empire‘s import has been in over 30 movies since her debut in 1996’s Trainspotting. She definitely has the range to capture the mood swings of the lycanthropic Rahne Sinclair WHILE using her natural Scottish brogue.

 

ELLE FANNING as LAYLA MILLER

Young Elle Fanning hinted at her potential in Spielberg’s Super 8, and playing the precocious and enigmatic Layla Miller would let her realize it. Check out her spooky performance in The Nines, and you will believe she knows stuff.

GAEL GARCIA BERNAL as RICTOR

Julio Richter’s ability to generate earthquakes is awesome, but it will take more than just knowing your faultlines to bring the bisexual superhero’s emotional depth to life. Acclaimed actor Bernal usually stars in Oscar bait like Amores Perros and The Motorcycle Diaries, so this role would be a great opportunity for him to shake things up.

 

JERI RYAN as VAL COOPER

Jeri Ryan is a great actress who has plenty of nerd cred, having played 7 of 9 in over a hundred episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. Not to mention she may as well have modeled for X-Factor’s government liaison.

Geekscape’s Before First Class – What If An X-Men Movie Was Made In The Early 90s?!?

With an announced sequel to X Men: First Class, and the rumors of a rebooted 1960’s Fantastic Four, retro Marvel is officially IN. This has led Geekscape to wonder: what if different Marvel franchises had actually been released in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s?

Or, maybe you think it’s stupid to cast a Marvel movie in a different decade, justify the lineup, and pitch a plot. Well, that’s why we at Geekscape consider ourselves to be heroes, in a way. We waste our time doing the stupid things the world is afraid to do.

 The 90’s: THE X MEN

It’s 1994. X Men: The Animated Series is wildly popular, and the X Men are settling in as the most popular comic franchise of the decade. A movie spinning out of the popular Jim Lee designs of the animated series using its lineup has to happen. It just makes sense- why wait until 2000? It is only logical that the Uncanny X Men join the film legacy of 1994: The Flintstones. The Mask. Speed. Star Trek: Generations. Speed. Speed.

The pitch: All has been quiet in the mutant world since Magneto exiled himself to Asteroid M. Government tensions are at an all time high with the self appointed savior of mutantkind in orbit. The uneasy peace is shattered when Magneto is approached by The Acolytes and their leader Fabian Cortez, who manipulates Magneto and his followers into a declaration of war against the surface! And Gyrich is there, too! The only ones that can prevent a third world war? THE X MEN! Dwee do do be dooooo do do! Dwee do do be dooooooo do da! X MEN THEME SONG.

And who will play the mutants in a world that hates and fears them?

CHARLES XAVIER

Morgan Freeman? Are you crazy? SUCK IT, WORLD, YOU’RE CRAZY. There’s more to Xavier than being a bald white guy. He’s also wise, inspiring, and got his start doing Listerine commercials. Fresh out of The Shawshank Redemption, Freeman brings the cred as the telepathic founder of the X Men. Plus, it’s at least 30% appropriate that one half of Marvel’s civil rights metaphor is actually black. At least.

MAGNETO

Magneto. The exiled mutant leader and Holocaust survivor. Powerful. Intelligent. Charismatic. Handsome enough that Rogue constantly wants to bang him. Jeff Goldblum. Jeff Goldum you say? Don’t mind if I do. “Sure John, but at Disney, the Pirates of the Caribbean didn’t come to life and use their magnet powers to kill the flatscans.” Words we can all live by.

SCOTT SUMMERS

Val Kilmer. The man who would be Bruce Wayne would make a much better Scott Summers. Stoic. Serious. Handsome. He will be your wingman anytime. I can’t think of anyone in 1994 better groomed to lead the X Men into battle. Except maybe Zero Cool from Hackers. I thought long and hard on that one. Heh. Long. Hard. 90’s humor.

JEAN GREY

The woman who would be the weird character who wanted to bang Bruce Wayne. If Nicole Kidman could put up with Tom Cruise, she can deal with the enormous pressures of the Phoenix. And she can totally pull off constant fainting and shouting ‘Scott!’ and ‘Logan!’ That’s probably the audition. “Slate please. Now look right off camera here and shout ‘Scott.’ Thank you, you’ll hear from us soon.”

FABIAN CORTEZ

Is Michael Wincott super Fabian Cortezy? Possibly not. But was he the awesome bad guy in The Crow? Fuck yes he was. Can you see him being Jeff Goldblum’s right hand man and then (1991 spoiler alert) turning on him? Yes. Yes you can.

GYRICH

Gary Oldman. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, High Ranking Racist Pentagon Official.

STORM

Angela Bassett. Originally Vivica Fox, but we’ve really got to make some tough decisions about who could eventually look better with a mohawk in 1995’s sequel X Men and Jubilee (played by Angels in the Outfield’s Joseph Gordon Levitt).

ROGUE

Perhaps it’s just because I’m the president of the ‘this chick deserved a better career’ club, but Rogue goes to Kari Wuhrer. You know her from 8 Legged Freaks and Command and Conquer: Red Alert. I know her from pictures on AOL when I was becoming a man. And what stronger choice to make for the woman who can’t touch anyone than a woman that a 6th grader really, really wants to touch? It’s poetic and artistic. Like something Alan Moore would write. You guys know Alan Moore? He’s the greatest writer of all time. And he would love this movie. I’m 70% sure of that.

BEAST

James Spader was crushing the sci fi world as the geek that can also kick ass if he has to in STARGATE. Put blue fur on this man immediately! Fun fact: I bet they could have made him look better in 1994 than they did in X Men: First Class. BURN.

WOLVERINE

The Quick and the Dead’s Russell Crowe. He’s the best at what he does. And what he does is throw phones at people in 15 years.

GAMBIT

Cut from the film. Special effects weren’t available in 1994 to replicate his accent properly.

Editor’s Note: Screw you, Joe! You don’t want Van Damme in ANYTHING (except you)! And where’s my Brian “The Boz” Bosworth as Colossus?!?

HAVOK

Come on, how is this not better than Gambit? Rogue can fall in love with him AND he’s the angry younger brother of the team leader. And if the 90’s taught us anything, no one plays ‘angry young brother of the team leader’ better than CHRISTIAN SLATER. This really makes me wish that his character in Pump Up The Volume was actually Alex Summers and at the end his power manifests and he blows up all those FCC trucks. And then he yells ‘Stay hard!’

So who would direct this all out 90s X-Fest? How about a director who spent the end of the 80s making kick ass action film after kick ass action film?

KICK ASS 90s DIRECTOR

John McTiernan made Predator in 1987, Die Hard in 1988 and The Hunt for Red October in 1990. On top of his game, he then made the critical Sean Connery bomb Medicine Man in 1992 and broke Arnold’s hot streak with Last Action Hero in 1993. Ouch. We’d rewrite history to have McTiernan making an X-Men movie for 1994 instead during these dark years before he made Die Hard: With a Vengeance in 1995. How’s that for a career save? We can’t help him with 2002’s Rollerball though…

Well, we’ve learned a lot about me with this one. Mainly, that I wrote more about Kari Wuhrer than Gary Oldman, so I guess we get my priorities. Next week we’re turning the clock another ten years back to avenge the Reagan era! I want my where’s the beef! Members Only Jackets Assemble! I’m casting an 80’s Avengers movie.
