Comedian and truth advocate Sarah King joins the boys for a conversation about comedy, performance, truth, more truth, and more funny. Sarah
is an improviser, character actress, sketch writer and comedian in LA and she takes the boys to school on how to challenge yourself with comedy, and
challenge conventions too.

BRING BACK THE MIDDLEMAN

The boys host one of their favorite guests  JAVIER GRILLO-MARXUACH who’s here to talk about Helix his new show on SyFy and the crowdfunding campaign to resurrect The Middleman. Of course the boys get a little off track from time to time… but it doesn’t seem to throw Javi who shows again and again why he is the Fandom Planet go-to-guest. Listen, laugh, and learn, and go support the return of The Middleman at Indiegogo or on his website OKBJGM.com.

(Sorry that Robot Cowboy was the wrong number for this episode… he gets confused sometime)

LISTEN AND ENJOY

I’m not sure if I should admit this or not, but here goes. I am an avid watcher of Once Upon a Time.

Yes, that’s right. Snow White. Rumpelstiltskin. The Evil Queen.

I could lie and say that I started because of the incredibly hot actress who plays Red Riding Hood, but that’s not it. The truth of it is, I got married. My wife liked the show and wanted to start watching season two last Fall together. And season one was on Netflix. I figured it couldn’t hurt.

So I watched the first episode. And the second and third. All in one sitting. Sure, episode one wasn’t that exciting, but as I got to know the characters, I became interested in the show. It actually reminded me of a graphic novel I love, Fables. Actually, the wife and I were talking last week about how surprising it was that the creators of Fables didn’t sue Once Upon a Time, since the ideas were so similar. Also, it’s fun to try to guess which traditional storybook character any new arrivals might be.

But now the question is, do I open the door to the new spin-off called Once Upon a Time in Wonderland? Do I commit another hour to a similar show? The premise of the spin-off is simple; in the real world, Alice is thought insane because of her stories of Wonderland, but love forces her to return to the world she once left. The trailer makes her look a bit kickass, with a fight scene where she takes out a few people. Another reason for me to watch is that it’s written by one of the writers of Lost, Adam Horowitz (Lost, Once Upon a Time). Plus, isn’t that Sayid (from Lost) in the trailer? It sure is – he plays Jafar.

Also included are John Lithgow as The White Rabbit and a relatively new face in Sophie Lowe (Roadkill, Blame) as Alice.

I will probably give Wonderland a chance, at least an episode or two before I decide. Or maybe I’ll leave it up to the wife. After all, she got into The Walking Dead and Doctor Who for me…I should definitely reciprocate.

What about you? Do you watch Once? Will you give Wonderland a chance?

Watch the trailer here, and sound out below! Once Upon A Time In Wonderland premieres October 10th:

Briefly: A few weeks back, a mysterious, intriguing video appeared on Bad Robot’s official YouTube channel. The internet was ripe with speculation on whether Stranger teased a new, unannounced film or television series. As it turns out, it’s neither.

Bad Robot has debuted a new trailer for the project, which is a book developed by JJ Abrams and written by Doug Dorst, simply titled S. EW was able to take a look at the novel, and describes it as follows:

S. is basically about the relationship between a grad student named Eric and a college senior named Jennifer. They trade notes in the margins of a (fictional) 1949 novel by a mysterious author named V.M. Straka. S. contains the novel within the novel; copious handwritten notes between Jennifer and Eric (“a conversation that plunges them into the unknown,” according to the book jacket); and dozens of pieces of ephemera between the pages like newspaper clippings and a napkin with a map drawn on it.

S. sounds insanely interesting, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. The book releases on October 29. Take a look at the new teaser below, and let us know if you’ll be picking it up!

Briefly: Whatever this project is, I’m already insanely intrigued.

Bad Robot today debuted a trailer for a mysterious new project titled Stranger. It’s unknown whether the video teases an upcoming film or television project for the studio (which has a number of each currently in the works), but Stranger doesn’t appear connected to anything that Bad Robot has announced so far.

The video clocks in at just over a minute long, so I won’t spoil anything that it contains. Take a look at the impressive teaser below, and let us know what you think! We’ll be sure to share more details as they’re announced!

Derek Miller returns to Geekscape to talk about his new TBS comedy series “The Wedding Band”, premiering this weekend! Derek talks about getting the gig after not knowing how to play the drums, becoming friends with Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox and talking to Lost’s Harold Perrineau about the series ending! Also, what Derek gave up comic books for, making it in Hollywood and what games he’s still playing. Oh yeah, and Megan Fox is a serious gamer.

Just like with season two, AMC will be releasing webisodes prior to the start of the third season of The Walking Dead with a four part series titled “Cold Storage”. Did you know that a prequel to Psycho was in the works?

Bates Motel is a new TV drama in the works from A&E. The 10 episode first season is set to air sometime in 2013.  Little information has been released about the series, but we do know that Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Parenthood) will write and produce.

Deadline learned today that actress Vera Farmiga (Source Code, The Departed) will portray Norma Bates. This is the first time the living character will appear onscreen.

What do you think of this? Do you think she’s a good fit for the part? Are you mad the series is even being made? Planning on checking it out? You have seen Psycho right?

Vera Farmiga

She’s at least a lot prettier than the last time Norma was on screen!

Old Norma

Five months since launch. Six issues in. I’m enamored with these characters. I’m in love with this world. I’ll buy every issue until its sweet, sweet conclusion.

If you haven’t taken the plunge with Vaughan’s latest, here’s an awesome opportunity. All you need is an iOS or Android device and a copy of ComiXology.

Again, Brian K Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways, Lost) spins an elegant, action-packed, gripping tale of love, loss, war, philosophy, and so much more.

This has also been my first taste of artist Fiona Staples, whose insanely vibrant, unbelievably beautiful art is just as evocative as Brian’s work, if not more so. I want more, constantly. I’d cover my walls with it if I could.

There isn’t much more to say. It’s an amazing book, and you can get into it for free right now. But get on it! I’m sure it won’t last long!

Saga #1

‘Alex Cross’ is an adaptation of the novel ‘Cross’ by James Patterson. You may remember the character as being played by Morgan Freeman in ‘Kiss The Girls’ and ‘Along Came A Spider’. Originally when this film began production Idris Elba (‘Thor’, ‘Prometheus’) was signed on for the lead role but was replaced by Tyler Perry (‘Star Trek, ‘Good Deeds’). The film also stars Rachel Nichols (‘GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra’), Jean Reno (‘Ronin’, ‘Mission: Impossible’), John C. McGinley (‘Identity’, ‘Office Space’) and Matthew Fox (‘Lost’, ‘Speed Racer’) The film is directed by Rob Cohen (‘The Fast And The Furious, ‘xXx’)

When I first read that the film starred Tyler Perry I was almost about to ignore the trailer entirely. But after watching it…it doesn’t look bad. It actually looks like something I kind of want to check out. And I definitely did not recognize Matthew Fox at first. This seems like one of those movies that could be an entertaining flick to catch on a week night.

‘Alex Cross’ hits theaters October, 19 2012.

Former writer & producer for “Lost” and creator of the ABC Family Show “The Middleman,” Javier Grillo-Marxuach joins the boys to discuss his new comic series from APE, “Ramiel: The Wrath of God.”The book has been reviewed by the comics industry and even gained some mainstream press attention in a recent piece in USA TODAY which features a preview of issue #1. This episode I sit down with Scott Gimple, producer and writer on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Scott and I met while playing Left 4 Dead a few years ago. Scott and I talk about his career writing shows like Fast Forward with David Goyer and the recent Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance. And of course we talk about The Walking Dead. How does he deal with fan criticism as both a writer and a fan? Also, Scott gives advice to Geekscapists looking to start a TV writing career!
