Briefly: Yeah, this is another series that’s ‘on the list’.

A list that I’ll never ever get through if I don’t immediately quit my job and start immediately, but I digress.

WGN America has just debuted the first teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of Salem, and the series looks just as twisted as it did when I was really excited for its first season to premiere (which I… still haven’t seen).

The new season is set to kickoff during the week of Halloween (good timing), and this season Marilyn Manson will even guest star as Salem’s own Sweeny Todd. Sounds bad-ass, doesn’t it?

Set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, SALEM explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. In SALEM, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem. The show, which centers on an epic romance wrapped around this explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem — and an even bolder new vision of witches.

Take a look at the teaser trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

During the Super Bowl’s second quarter, CBS released their verdict on their popular TV drama The Good Wife; this season will be its last. The next 9 episodes are the final ones to air.

It was reported earlier in the season that the showrunners, Robert and Michelle King, the husband and wife duo who started the show were stepping down. Julianna Margulies , The Good Wife herself commented that she was going to be out of a job come April.

The Good Wife has had its twists and turns, as the promo reminded. A twist that still resonates with fans is when Josh Charles’ character Will Gardner was shot and killed, taking the audience by complete surprise. The actor had been in negotiations to leave for sometime, wishing to leave in order to tend to his family, and the lack of talk around the industry had fellow actors taken by complete surprise.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye to one of the crown jewels of your network and studio, much less to a show that is among the best on television,” commented Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment and , President, CBS Television Studios, David Stapf. “But it also feels very right to end with the seven-year story its creators envisioned, and to celebrate the show’s final run while at the top of its creative game. It has been CBS’s sincere privilege to broadcast and produce The Good Wife for seven extraordinary seasons. We thank and applaud the outstanding cast, led by the impeccable Julianna Margulies, and the consummate writing and producing team, headed by the brilliant Robert and Michelle King, who brought to life a smart, sophisticated series that has delivered audiences so many memorable characters and unforgettable moments. It is a series that will only grow in prestige as its episodes are watched again or discovered by new viewers for many years to come.”

The show stars Julianna Margulies, Chris Noth,  Christine Baranski, Alan Cummings, Matt Cuzchry. The show airs on Sunday nights on CBS at 10pm.

Briefly: I wasn’t overly sold on the idea of a Minority Report television series, but Fox has just debuted the first trailer for the show, and it actually looks cooler than I’d expect.

Based on the international blockbuster film by executive producer Steven Spielberg and the first of his films to be adapted for television, Minority Report follows the unlikely partnership between a man haunted by the future and a cop haunted by her past, as they race to stop the worst crimes of the year 2065 before they happen.

Set in Washington, D.C., it is 10 years after the demise of Precrime, a law enforcement agency tasked with identifying and eliminating criminals…before their crimes were committed. To carry out this brand of justice, the agency used three precogs – “precognitives” Dash, Arthur and Agatha – who were able to see the future. Now, in 2065, crime-solving is different, and justice leans more on sophisticated and trusted technology than on the instincts of the precogs.

Precog DASH (Stark Sands, “Inside Llewyn Davis”) – driven by his terrifying, but fragmented visions – now has returned in secret to help a brash, but shrewd, police detective, Lara Vega (Meagan Good, “Think Like A Man” franchise, “Californication”), attempt to stop the murders that he predicts.

As they navigate this future America, they will search for Dash’s missing twin brother, ARTHUR, and elude others who will stop at nothing to exploit their precog abilities. Also complicating matters is Dash and Arthur’s ingenious, but reclusive, foster sister, AGATHA (Laura Regan, “Mad Men,” “Unbreakable”), who just wants Dash to return home.

A drama of crime and conspiracy, this is a timeless story of connection: two lost souls, Dash and vega, who find friendship, purpose and redemption in each other.

Briefly: Penny Dreadful was one of my favourite new series of 2014. Its short, phenomenal, eight-episode run was over far too quickly, and left me and millions of other fans itching for more.

From the show’s stellar cast, to its impressive production values, to the way incredible way it mixes and crosses over so many literary classics, there’s a lot (a lot) to love in this Victorian horror. In the series, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula – have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series is a frightening psychosexual thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan’s Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road), both of Neal Street.

Take a look at the first teaser for next year’s episodes below, and we’ll be sure to share as soon as Showtime releases more.

Briefly: Netflix made millions of fans very happy last November when they announced that they were resurrecting (again, they also co-produced season 3) The Killing for an abbreviated, 6-episode final season.

Now we’re less than a month away from its bittersweet (because it’ll be the end, though we’re still so thankful that it’s happening) launch, and Netflix has launched the trailer for the upcoming episodes.

I’m a huge fan of the show, and after season three’s insane conclusion, I can’t wait to see how things wrap up. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you hope to see next month!

The subject of witches can be a tricky one. The word “witch” can bring up all kinds of pop culture images such as: the Wicked Witch of the West (Wizard of Oz), broomsticks, scary/ugly women over a caldron (Macbeth), cute girls (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and so on. There have been many films with witches as the subject but not too many television shows. Well, now there is Salem on WGN America. The show has gained so much attention and is doing so well that it has already been renewed for a second season after being on the air less than a month (3 episodes)!

Salem2

“Set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, Salem explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. In Salem, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem.”

While at WonderCon, I attended the Salem panel where we saw the first twenty-five minutes of the pilot episode a couple of days before it aired. However, a few scenes were cut out of our screening because it was just too graphic (violence and sex) for an all ages panel. The audience laughed when the blank screen came up during the episode and laughed even more when the blank screen was up for an apparently long scene. They did warn us about the graphic nature of the show and, during one scene, a few parents with kids made their way out of the panel room. Everyone else liked what they saw of the pilot! The screening was followed by executive producers Adam Simon and Brannon Braga, along with series star, Shane West, talking about the show.

Salem1

Simon started talking about the inspiration behind the show by asking, “Who doesn’t love Salem? Who doesn’t love witches?” He went on to mention how we all know some of the history of Salem but there is still much that has not been explored. Braga mentioned, “What uncharted territory this was…” explaining that they delved into the transcripts from the time and those reveal way more weird stuff than has been shown before. Now, you could make a show where the witch hunters were just a crazy mob or you could approach it as if witchcraft was real. Simon explained that at the time, “…everybody believed in witches” and the producers and series creators wanted to “…show the world as they [the people of Salem] perceived it”. West plays a character who is not a believer. He told the audience that his characters would “…react like most of you would react” and that his character is basically the “audience POV”.

You can check out a series trailer below!

Briefly: I haven’t actually had an opportunity to check Salem out yet, but from the series’ full trailer, I’m definitely hoping to get around to it soon.

The dramatic outing has been rather successful for WGN America, as the series premiere brought in over 1.5 million viewers.

Season two will consist of 13 episodes, and will air in 2015.

Matt Cherniss, WGN America president states that “The talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers. We look forward to bringing more great storytelling, scares and surprises to viewers as the saga unfolds.”

Briefly: It won’t premiere on television for another two weeks, but Showtime has just debuted the entire first episode of their anticipated series Penny Dreadful for free online.

The link, of course, is US only, so international readers will need a VPN to view the episode.

In the series, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula – have become embroiled in Victorian London. Here’s the (tiny, footageless) teaser that announces the premiere date:

I’ve loved the series thus far, and am extremely excited that Netflix is making another season. What do you hope to see? Will you be binge-watching on August 1st?

Briefly: Remember when The Killing was cancelled, and then resurrected for an awesome third season, and then cancelled again?

Well, it seems as though The Killing just won’t stay dead, as the series has just received a six-episode final season order. Awesome news, right?

This time however, the series won’t be on AMC. Instead, the amazing folks over at Netflix are taking the reins to craft the final episodes. Seasons one through three are now available for streaming on the service, and if you haven’t seen it, I’d highly recommend it.

Take a look at the full press release below, and let us know how excited you are! We’ll be sure to share more info as soon as it’s available!

Netflix has ordered a fourth and final limited season that will serve as a conclusion for “The Killing,” exclusively for its over 40 million members worldwide. The 6-episode series finale, from Fox Television Studios (FTVS), will be available only to Netflix streaming members to watch instantly in all Netflix territories.

“The rich, serialized storytelling in ‘The Killing’ thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder a proper send off,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix. “We are looking forward to offering fans – both existing and new – a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing.”

David Madden, president, Fox Television Studios, commented, “It’s a true testament to ‘The Killing’ creator Veena Sud, and the stellar cast led so compellingly by Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, that fans remained so passionate about the show. We’re gratified that our partners at Netflix recognized this, and are giving us the opportunity to complete the story in a way that will be satisfying to our loyal audience.”

The first three seasons of “The Killing” are now available to stream globally on Netflix.

Briefly: Following the cool ‘Initiation’ promo released just yesterday, FX has revealed the plot synopsis for American Horror Story: Coven‘s debut episode, Bitchcraft.

Unsurprisingly, Coven sounds intriguing as hell! The season premieres on October 9th, and should be an absolute blast. Take a gander at the synopsis below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to it!

A young girl, Zoe, is shattered to discover she possesses a strange genetic affliction tracing back to the dark days of Salem. Zoe is whisked away to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, a mysterious school in New Orleans devoted to safeguarding the few remaining descendants who share this unique bloodline. Harboring a secret agenda, Fiona Goode, the most powerful witch of their generation, returns to town, reigniting old rivalries with the Coven’s deadly enemies, the Voodoo.

Briefly: The Killing fans (which I definitely am one of), you had to have seen this one coming.

AMC has announced their decision not to renew acclaimed crime drama The Killing for a fourth season. This, of course, is the second time that the series has been cancelled, the first time being after a steady ratings fall during the show’s second season.

The network states that “Fox Television Studios is extremely proud of all three seasons of The Killing. We’re especially gratified to have orchestrated a unique deal with AMC for season three that included a bold partnership with Netflix. While we would have loved to produce a fourth season for AMC, FTVS is immensely grateful to everyone involved with this moving series: our brilliant cast, led by Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman and season three’s Peter Sarsgaard, our stellar executive producer, Veena Sud, a remarkable writing and producing team, and a tireless, dedicated crew. Most of all, FTVS thanks the terrific fans of The Killing, who communicated their appreciation for the show throughout its run.”

It’s sad news for sure, especially after watching the fantastic almost-didn’t-happen third season. At least the show was resurrected once though, right?

Did you enjoy the series? Sound out below!

Briefly: We’re less than one week away from the premiere of Breaking Bad‘s final half season, and AMC today debuted a new TV spot for the exciting event.

The promo, titled “Say My Name”, takes us through some of last year’s insane moments, including Hank’s realization that Walter may not be as innocent as he once thought. The spot is made up of entirely old footage, but somehow gets me excited as hell for this Sunday.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know if you’ll be tuning in!

Briefly: Universal Pictures today debuted the first trailer for Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor.

The film, based on the book Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 tells the story of a failed 2005 mission, where the team was set to capture and kill a prominent member of the Taliban.

The film spotlights a pretty stellar cast, including Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Ludwig, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, Eric Bana, and plenty of others. Take a look at the film’s first trailer below, and let us know what you think! Lone Survivor hits theatres on December 27th!

‘Lone Survivor’ is the true story of four Navy SEALs on an ill-fated covert mission to neutralize a high-level Taliban operative who are ambushed by enemy forces in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch, and Eric Bana

Who could say no to free Showtime content?

The network’s upcoming drama, Ray Donovan, won’t premiere until June 30th, but you can now watch the pilot episode, titled ‘The Bag or the Bat’ for free online.

Set in the sprawling mecca of the rich and famous, Ray Donovan does the dirty work for LA’s top power players. The new one-hour series stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) in his first lead television role as the go-to guy who makes the problems of the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear. This powerful drama unfolds when his father, played by Oscar winner Jon Voight, is unexpectedly released from prison, setting off a chain of events that shakes the Donovan family to its core.

The show looks like an absolute blast, and I can’t wait to check it out. Unfortunately, being in Canada means that I’m out of the running for this pilot, but watch it below, and let me know how it is!

After what seems like years (and years) of rumours, Fox has just announced that 24 is headed back to television.

24: Live Another Day will premiere on the network in Summer 2014, and series star Kiefer Sutherland will again be stepping into the shoes of Jack Bauer. 24 showrunner Howard Gordon is also set to return.

Sutherland sounds beyond excited to return to the role, stating that “The response to ‘24’ is unlike anything I have ever experienced as an actor before. To have the chance to reunite with the character, Jack Bauer, is like finding a lost friend. The story ideas from Howard Gordon are exciting and fresh, and will not disappoint. Great thanks to 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and the FOX network for this opportunity. Make no mistake, my goal is to knock your socks off. See you soon.”

Are you excited? I never watched 24, but have heard nothing but good things about it (at least in its earlier seasons). Is it time to bite the bullet and give it a viewing?

PRESS RELEASE: FOX has ordered 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY, a thrilling new tent-pole event series set to restart the clock on the groundbreaking and Emmy Award-winning drama franchise starring Kiefer Sutherland. Produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Howard Gordon’s Teakwood Lane Productions, 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY will make its historic debut in the summer of 2014 on FOX.

The announcement was made this morning by Kevin Reilly, Chairman, Fox Broadcasting Company; Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen, Twentieth Century Fox Television; and Brian Grazer, Chairman, Imagine Entertainment.

The high-octane saga will reunite showrunner Howard Gordon with Sutherland and retain the real-time, pulse-pounding, fast-paced format with split screens and complex interweaving storylines, with 12 episodes representing 24 hours. The suspenseful event series once again follows the exploits of heroic agent JACK BAUER (Sutherland), who will resume his story several years following the events of the final season.

“It’s great to have Jack back. ‘24’ redefined the drama genre, and as we reimagine the television miniseries, this iconic show will again break new ground for the network,” said Reilly. “The series remains a global sensation, and everyone at FOX is thrilled to be back at work with Kiefer, Howard and the incredibly creative ‘24’ team.”

“When Howard came to us saying he had an idea for a new chapter of ‘24,’ he quite simply had us at ‘hello,’” remarked 20th Century Fox Television Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden. “’24’ is a signature series for this studio, beloved by critics and audiences worldwide. Howard’s idea to revive the franchise as an event series couldn’t be timelier, and with the brilliant Kiefer Sutherland on board to reprise his iconic role, we can’t wait to get started.”

Added Imagine Television Chairman Brian Grazer, “I’m both excited and proud that Howard, Kiefer, and I, along with ours partners at 20th and Fox, have this new opportunity to give ‘24’ fans what they’ve been asking for – more Jack Bauer. It’s been my experience that people love Jack Bauer because he’s a guy who cuts through the red tape and gets the hardest things done. I am certain 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY will again have a huge impact on our culture.”

“The response to ‘24’ is unlike anything I have ever experienced as an actor before,” noted Sutherland. “To have the chance to reunite with the character, Jack Bauer, is like finding a lost friend. The story ideas from Howard Gordon are exciting and fresh, and will not disappoint. Great thanks to 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and the FOX network for this opportunity. Make no mistake, my goal is to knock your socks off. See you soon.”

“Jack Bauer has always been an exciting, thrilling character, and I confess that I’ve missed him. I think the audience has too,” said executive producer Howard Gordon who served as showrunner for most of the series’ run and won multiple Emmy Awards for his work. “The character has evolved through the years, and this new and exciting event series format is perfect to tell the next chapter of his story and continue to reflect how the world is changing. Fans can rest assured that the Jack they know and love will be back.”

Originally premiering November 6, 2001, ‘24’ was nominated for a total of 73 Emmy Awards, winning for Outstanding Drama Series in 2006. Over eight seasons, Kiefer Sutherland garnered seven Emmy Award nominations and one win for Outstanding Lead Actor – Drama Series. While the series gained global recognition, Sutherland’s portrayal of the legendary character penetrated the American psyche like no other dramatic television character to become part of the cultural lexicon.

24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY is a production of 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television in association with Teakwood Lane Productions. Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer and Kiefer Sutherland will executive produce, along with an additional team to be announced. The original series, which had its last American broadcast on May 24, 2010, was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran.

Today NBC released (via Entertainment Weekly) a first look at their upcoming crime thriller Hannibal. I’m quite excited for the series, though the way that it’s described almost sounds as though it will have a heavy Dexter vibe to it.

Not a ton is known about the series beyond a synopsis, which you can see below:

One of the most fascinating literary characters comes to life on television for the first time: psychiatrist-turned-serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. In this new drama from Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies,” “Heroes”), based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels, we see where this incredible story began.

Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…

Starring brilliant young actor Hugh Dancy as Will Graham, “Hannibal” will breathe new life into a deadly classic.

Check out the photos below, and let us know what you think!

The 13 episode first season will have a pilot directed by David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy), though a premiere date has not been set.

Fox Searchlight today released the first trailer for the highly anticipated Hitchcock.

The film features a pretty stellar cast with the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansson, and many more.

Hitchcock follows the relationship of Alfred Hitchcock (Hopkins) and his wife Alma (Mirren), the trials and tribulations that they face, and the making of Hitchcocks most famous film, Psycho.

It’s quite the story, and looks to be shaping up to be quite the film. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Hitchcock gets a limited release on November 23rd.

A small but interesting piece of news for A&E’s upcoming Psycho prequel, Nestor Carbonell looks to have a part in the series.

Just shortly ago from showrunner Carlton Cuse’s (Lost) twitter account:

Carbonell of course played the mysterious and unaging Richard on NBC’s insanely popular drama Lost. You’ll likely also recognize him as mayor Garcia of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

No other information has been revealed, so who he will portray is still a mystery. A great casting choice however, Carbonell is typically fantastic.

Last month we told you about A&E’s upcoming Psycho prequel drama, Bates Motel.

As we mentioned earlier, the series was greenlit right away, even before a pilot was produced.

A&E has just released a teaser poster for the project, which is set to premiere next year.

As you can see from the teaser poster, both Carlton Cuse (Lost), and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights) are serving as executive producers for the title.

Will you be checking into Bates Motel when it hits next year?

AMC has just released a new video promoting season 3 of The Walking Dead.

It’s a pretty neat tour of the creepy prison that is to become a main setpiece for season 3 of the popular drama, and features Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.

This is a follow up to last week’s poster release, featuring the tagline “Fight the Dead, Fear the Living”

Season 3 of The Walking Dead premieres on October 14.

What do you think of the video? Looking forward to the upcoming season?

Did you know that a prequel to Psycho was in the works?

Bates Motel is a new TV drama in the works from A&E. The 10 episode first season is set to air sometime in 2013.  Little information has been released about the series, but we do know that Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Parenthood) will write and produce.

Deadline learned today that actress Vera Farmiga (Source Code, The Departed) will portray Norma Bates. This is the first time the living character will appear onscreen.

What do you think of this? Do you think she’s a good fit for the part? Are you mad the series is even being made? Planning on checking it out? You have seen Psycho right?

Vera Farmiga

She’s at least a lot prettier than the last time Norma was on screen!

A brand new subtitled trailer for director Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming spaghetti western, Django Unchained has been released online. The trailer features small bits of unseen footage with some previously seen.

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, “Django Unchained” stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…

Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Pilar Savone and Reginald Hudlin. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole.

Django Unchained will hit theaters December 25th!
