Briefly: A&E has finally released the full trailer for their remake of French series Les Revnants titled The Returned, and it definitely makes me want to check out what the series has to offer.

First of all, the French series has received nothing but critical acclaim, and the US version comes from executive producers Carlton Cuse (LOST, Bates Motel) and Raelle Tucker (True Blood)

Then there’s the freaking cast, with Scott Pilgrim‘s Mary Elizabeth Windstead, Lost‘s Mark Pellegrino, and Six Feet Under‘s Jeremy Sisto starring among a myriad of other names.

The series “focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people, who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, bringing with them both positive and detrimental consequences. As families are reunited, the lives of those who were left behind are challenged on a physical and emotional level. Interpersonal relationships are examined with intrigue and depth as strange phenomena begin to occur.”

Sounds pretty good to me. Though I’m not sure I can wait until its March 9th premiere. If you’re eager, the French series Les Revnants is available for streaming on Netflix. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

As you likely know, the Psycho and Hannibal Lecter series of films have now been given the contemporary prequel treatment on the small screen. In the last 40 days, Bates Motel debuted on A&E, while Hannibal premiered on NBC during the WonderCon weekend. These two films are among the most iconic in movie history. The question is, if we already know where the series’ must end, how liberal can the television series’ that fill in the gaps really be?

HANNIBAL main cast

The newer of the two series’, Hannibal so far seems most likely to succeed. Despite being on a network long-known for letting good shows die rather quickly (typically by canceling early), Hannibal seems to be well produced and scripted. The series stars Mads Mikkelsen (CASINO ROYALE) as the titular Dr. Hannibal Lecter, Laurence Fishburne (THE MATRIX TRILOGY) as Jack Crawford and Hugh Dancy (ADAM) as a slightly tweaked version of FBI profiler Will Graham. Fans have seen glimpses of who Will Graham was before Dr. Lecter infected his life, but now we’ll see a different side as it is stated that he likely has Asperger’s Syndrome (a much milder form of Autism). This helps explain the wild imagination and almost total empathy, while shedding light on why he insists on limited social interaction and almost no eye contact. It also fits with the “all business” personality of the character that we saw from Edward Norton in Red Dragon. What we really need to see is how the “good” doctor progresses throughout the series. At the moment, he’s played rather well by Mikkelsen, though not nearly as creepily as by Hopkins. Not yet anyway. That may occur as we get farther down the line. Most of the menace from the character is what we, as fans, infer upon it. Since we know the endgame, we read more into it than may even be there, but I get the feeling that it’s exactly what the show runners are banking on at this point. NBC isn’t skimping on the creepy/shock factor for the crimes that the team investigates, that’s for sure. There are 13 episodes ordered for the first season, and so far they’re rather good, but fans deserve and desire more, and we’re hoping the content keeps improving.

Norman and Norma Bates
Norman and Norma Bates

Bates Motel is the prequel series to Alfred Hitchcock’s most (in)famous film, Psycho. Although we never saw her alive in the film or its sequels, the first certainly gave us a brief insight into Norma Bates. The first few episodes have been very rich and filled with decent characters, but Norman doesn’t yet feel like the Bates we’ve all come to know and be scared of. There’s a creepy factor coming off of Freddie Highmore (CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) that works for a young Norman Bates, but what I didn’t expect was for him to be a much less socially awkward version of the Norman Bates we all know and hate. Then there’s the real psychopath, his mother Norma, played wonderfully by Vera Farmiga (THE DEPARTED). While she may seem to be little more than a devoted mother, there’s clearly an underlying evil that I was surprised to see in just the first episode.  From there, every awkward moment I’ve seen appears to have the classic Psycho music in the background. Halfway throughout the ten episode first season, it’s already been a very promising start, worthy of the beloved series of horror films.

We should expect a second season, at least for Bates Motel, as it has already been ordered. We’ll be waiting awhile for NBC  to come to their senses and order a second season of Hannibal. As for whether they’ll do justice to the old stuff, we’ll have to take a look back after the end of these first seasons, but at present they’re working their way to becoming rather impressive. Now, I’d love to tell you it feels exactly the same, but as these characters are younger than their established selves, the fandom will have to decide.

If you’re a regular around these parts, you know just how excited I am for Bates Motel. The contemporary Psycho prequel has featured one of the most impressive marketing campaigns of any show in recent memory, and there isn’t another midseason show that I’m looking forward to more than this one.

This doesn’t apply to me (being Canadian of course), but Xfinity customers, I’ve got some cool news for you. The pilot episode of Bates Motel is now available for your viewing pleasure. Just head here, log in, and you’ll be watching a whole four days before everyone else!

Again, head here to watch the episode, and let us know what you think! Everyone else, you’ll have to settle for the first six minutes.

If you’re a regular around these parts, you know full well just how excited I am for A&E’s Bates Motel. The series looks absolutely fantastic (at least from the few minutes of footage that we’ve seen), and has had an extremely powerful marketing campaign.

A&E today released a new trailer for the series, and (of course) it’s a great peek at just what the series has to offer. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Bates Motel opens for business on March 18th.

Following the tragic death of her husband, Norma Bates buys a motel on the outskirts of the idyllic coastal town of White Pine Bay, seeking a fresh start. As Norma and Norman get ensconced in their new home, they discover this town isn’t quite what it seems, and the locals aren’t so quick to let them in on their secrets. But the Bates’ are done being pushed around and will do whatever it takes to survive – and will do whatever it takes to protect their own secrets.

A&E has just released a new TV spot for their upcoming drama, Bates Motel.

I’m beyond excited for this series; every single teaser, every trailer, and every image has been insanely effective. I’m quite looking forward to checking into Bates Motel when it premieres on March 18th.

A&E today released a new (short) teaser trailer for their upcoming drama, Bates Motel. The series stars Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga as Norman and Norma Bates respectively. The series aims to tell Norman’s younger years, before he went… well, Psycho.

I am ridiculously excited for Bates Motel to start. As far back as I can remember, I don’t remember any television series’ (aside from LOST possibly) having such an insanely effective marketing campaign.

Every teaser, every trailer, every image has been absolutely outstanding. I’ve got very high hopes for this one, so I certainly hope that when Bates Motel premieres on March 18th, the show is at least close to as good as the marketing is.

After two creepy teasers and an awesome first look, we now know just when we’ll be able to check in to Bates Motel. A&E revealed today that the 10 episode first season of the modern day Psycho prequel will begin on March 18th, 2012.

Carlton Cuse (Lost) is showrunner on the series. That, coupled with the fact that A&E ordered an entire season without even producing a pilot, gives me high hopes for this one. The footage shown so far has also looked absolutely fantastic.

Will you be checking in?

“Norma Bates buys a motel on the outskirts of an idyllic coastal town seeking a fresh start with her teenage son, the handsome and shy Norman.”

A&E has just released two short teasers to garner excitement for their upcoming series Bates Motel. Colour me excited: while each video runs for just 15 seconds, each is well done, effective, and very creepy.

Bates Motel will of course act as a prequel to the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho (though interestingly enough, it looks to be set in modern times). Freddie Highmore will play a young Norman Bates, while his mother Norma will be played by Vera Farmiga. Nothing is know about the plot at this time, aside from the fact thatBates Motel will portray the twisted mother and sun relationship, and Norman’s descent into madness.

Bates Motel is set to premiere sometime in 2013. Excited?

We’ve given Bates Motel plenty of coverage here at Geekscape, and that’s because I’m genuinely excited for the project. I can’t wait to see the trouble that a young Norman Bates and a not-yet-dead Norma can get up to, and just how Norman grows to step into his insane adult shoes.

Bates Motel is currently in production, and is set to premiere sometime in 2013. Carlton Cuse (LOST) is showrunning the series, which stars Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga as the mother/son duo.

How do they look?

It’s hard to tell from a still image, but Norma just doesn’t look crazy enough to me!

A small but interesting piece of news for A&E’s upcoming Psycho prequel, Nestor Carbonell looks to have a part in the series.

Just shortly ago from showrunner Carlton Cuse’s (Lost) twitter account:

Carbonell of course played the mysterious and unaging Richard on NBC’s insanely popular drama Lost. You’ll likely also recognize him as mayor Garcia of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

No other information has been revealed, so who he will portray is still a mystery. A great casting choice however, Carbonell is typically fantastic.

Did you know that a prequel to Psycho was in the works?

Bates Motel is a new TV drama in the works from A&E. The 10 episode first season is set to air sometime in 2013.  Little information has been released about the series, but we do know that Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Parenthood) will write and produce.

Deadline learned today that actress Vera Farmiga (Source Code, The Departed) will portray Norma Bates. This is the first time the living character will appear onscreen.

What do you think of this? Do you think she’s a good fit for the part? Are you mad the series is even being made? Planning on checking it out? You have seen Psycho right?

Vera Farmiga

She’s at least a lot prettier than the last time Norma was on screen!

A four-hour two-night television event brought to you by Ridley Scott (‘Blade Runner’, ‘Prometheus’) and younger brother Tony Scott (‘Top Gun’, ‘True Romance’)

A healthy patient suddenly falls into a coma. It’s not an impossible event, but it is rare. So why does it keep happening at Peachtree Memorial?

Lauren Ambrose stars as Dr. Susan Wheeler in this thriller about a medical student who discovers that something sinister is going on in her hospital after routine procedures send more than a few seemingly healthy patients into comas on the operating table.

This modern retelling of the novel by Robin Cook and the film by Michael Crichton comes from executive producers Ridley and Tony Scott, Black Swan writer John J. McLaughlin, and Band of Brothers director/Emmy winner Mikail Salomon. The two-night event features a stellar cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Ellen Burstyn, James Woods, Geena Davis, and Steven Pasquale.
