Briefly: Looks like we won’t be getting a Paranormal Activity this year after all. Instead, we’ll get a double dose in 2014.

That’s right. First up is Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, a Latino-themed spinoff to the franchise that will hit theatres on January 3rd. Then, on October 24th, we’ll get Paranormal Activity 5, a direct continuation of the series we’ve been watching for the past few years.

I was a big fan of Paranormal Activity 1-3, but absolutely abhorred the fourth film. Hopefully the extra time they’re taking with the fifth instalment can get things back on track. Are you looking forward to the two films next year, or have you had enough of the series? Sound out below!

Briefly: I’ve never played Monster Hunter before, but I know just how insanely excited fans get at every new title. My 3DS is hankering for a new title, should the latest Monster Hunter be it?

Capcom has debuted a Japanese trailer for the upcoming Monster Hunter 4, featuring our first look at many locales, characters, and of course, monsters that we’re bound to meet in the game.

Monster Hunter 4 hits Japan on September 14th. A North American release date has not been set, so until then, take a look at the trailer below, and hope that Capcom has a heart.

Briefly: Earlier this year, Dark Horse Comics announced a brand-new limited series based on George Lucas’s original Star Wars screenplay, The Star Wars.

With the first issue in the series just a few weeks away, Dark Horse today debuted a trailer for The Star Wars, featuring some absolutely fantastic artwork.

The Star Wars looks like a phenomenal adaptation of the classic story, and I’m certainly interested in learning what changes occurred between the original treatment and the final film. The first issue of The Star Wars hits stores on September 4th. Take a look at the trailer below, read a free preview here, and be sure to let us know if you’ll be picking it up!

Briefly: Just hours before Sharknado screenwriter Thunder Levin appears live on Geekscape #299 (check it out here), Syfy has revealed the official title for the surprising smash-hit’s impending sequel.

Ready? You’ve never heard a title this clever.

The Sharnado sequel, which will release in July of 2014, is called Sharknado 2: The Second One.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Thomas Vitale, executive VP of programming at Syfy stated that “Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2. This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.”

Pop culture phenomenon is right. Since Sharknado‘s original airdate on July 11th, not a single day has passed in which I haven’t seen or heard someone talking about the film.

Let us know what you think of the title, and don’t forget to watch tonight’s Geekscape with Thunder Levin!

Briefly: We’re now hours into YouTube Geek Week’s Gaming Thursday, and I’ve just watched another absolutely hilarious video that’s simply too good not to share.

I’m not an Animal Crossing player myself, but I do know what it’s all about. Plus, the fact that I haven’t seen my 3DS since New Leaf launched in June means that I do have people close to me who are under its astonishing spell.

“Friends With Animals” features two suburban dads who are a little too obsessed with the game. It’s a rap video like no other, and one that had my New Leaf addicted girlfriend in stitches throughout. Take a look at the video below, and head here to see everything else that Gaming Thursday has to offer!

Briefly: YouTube Geek Week is well underway, and today’s the day that many of us have been waiting (and waiting) for: Gaming Thursday.

There is bound to be plenty of exciting new content revealed throughout the day, and there’s already a fantastic variety of new gaming videos. Machinima and Polaris are the two big players in today’s programming, and Machinima has debuted a hilarious, cameo filled video to kick off the day.

Titled “YouTube at WAR! Epic Video Game BATTLE!”, the video features cameos by some of YouTube’s most popular gamers, Chris Hardwick himself, and plenty of video game references to keep you laughing.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think! Don’t forget to check out everything else that YouTube Geek Week has to offer!

Briefly: It’s weird, sure, but it’s also very intriguing.

Yep, it’s the very first trailer for Spike Jonze’s upcoming sci-fi romance, HerThe film tells the story of Theodore Twombly, a heartbroken writer who gets a second chance at love after getting a new, intelligent computer.

The film is very much a Spike Jonze project. The cinematography is gorgeous, performances look down to Earth and believable, and the plot is extremely odd, yet remarkably cute. I’d never heard of Her before today, but after seeing this first trailer, it’s most definitely a film on my watch list.

Her stars Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, Rooney Mara, and Olivia Wilde, and hits theatres (in a limited release) on November 20th.

Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, “her” follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world.

If you’re a regular around these parts, you know how much we love Jason Trost. He’s the man behind last year’s phenomenal The FP (which made it on Jonathan’s best of 2012 list), and this year’s All Superheroes Must Die. We’ve also featured him on the podcast twice (here and here), and had a long conversation with him before All Superheroes Must Die released earlier this year.

Jason’s next film, Wet and Reckless, is now just a few days away from VOD. This Friday (August 9th), the movie will be available for rent/download worldwide. Yep, even if you’re all the way up in Canada (like me), you won’t have to wait months to check it out.

Wet and Reckless has been called “Jersey Shore meets National Treasure.”, and it looks like an absolute blast. The film won the 2013 Independent Spirit Award at Fantastic Planet earlier this year, and I really can’t wait to see it.

Watch the trailer for Wet and Reckless below, and head over to Vimeo to check the movie out!

http://youtu.be/h8orJGjucuY

Imagine Wes Anderson’s BOTTLE ROCKET fused with the reality TV show SURVIVOR, and you might get the slightest inkling of this hilarious buddy-comedy-crime-caper that spins entirely off the rails. Two party-animal, reality TV stars (Jason Trost – THE FP, and Lucas Till – X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) are stranded in Thailand. The only way home, and last chance of reclaiming their reality star-status? A treasure map… to a treasure map… Hilarity and adventure ensue in this indie comedic gem.

Briefly: The next DLC character for NetherRealm Studios fantastic Injustice: Gods Among Us has been revealed.

The first gameplay trailer for Zatanna has debuted online, showing off some pretty impressive moves, and finishing things off with a very lazy finisher (probably the most boring one that I’ve seen). All around, the character looks pretty neat, and should be welcomed by gamers who are itching for a new fighter.

Watch Zatanna’s gameplay footage below, and let us know what you think! We’ll let you know when Zatanna releases!

Briefly: Marvel Studios today debuted a new trailer for this Winter’s phase two film, Thor: The Dark World.

The preview is chock-full of new footage, including plenty of new Loki action. We also get a much better look at the film’s plot from this trailer, which is definitely one of the better Marvel film previews that I’ve ever seen.

Thor: The Dark World looks to drop the silly, overused humour from the first Thor film, and should be a much more serious feature than phase two opener Iron Man 3. This is exactly how the world should be acting after an alien attack, and I couldn’t be more excited to see where the movie goes.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to it! Thor: The Dark World hits theatres on November 8th!

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Briefly: The ever evolving cast of The Expendables 3 changed once again today, both adding a new (and long sought after) player, and losing an already established one.

First, Sylvester Stallone revealed on twitter that Harrison Ford had been cast in the film… and that Bruce Willis would not be returning:

Just a few moments later, Stallone tweeted again, in what must be referencing a falling out between him and Willis:

And that’s that! The Expendables 3 has already added Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage, Milla Jovovich, and Wesley Snipes to the crew, and I’m sure we’ll see even more additional casting before production wraps. Let us know what you think of the latest news, and if you’re looking forward to the film! The Expendables 3 hits theatres on August 15th, 2014.

Briefly: Just one day after the season’s premiere date was revealed, FX has debuted the very first, very brief teaser for American Horror Story: Coven.

The video clocks in at just 18 seconds, so I won’t give away anything that the teaser reveals. It likely has almost nothing to do with what the season will actually offer (as with Asylum‘s teasers), but I’m damned excited to see more.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know what you think! American Horror Story: Coven premieres on October 9th!

Briefly: I didn’t think that I’d be seeing this today.

Disney has just released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming, wonderful-looking sequel, Muppets Most Wanted.

The trailer is pretty standard fare, highlighting some pretty obvious film facts before introducing us to some of the new stars. That being said, it had me laughing throughout, and I definitely can’t wait to see more.

Take a look at the first teaser below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to it! Muppets Most Wanted hits theatres on March 21st!

Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais, creator of “Derek” and the Golden Globe®- and Emmy®-winning series “The Office” and “Extras.” The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” “Mean Girls,” “Date Night”) as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (TV’s “Modern Family”) as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.

Briefly: With just 10 days to go until Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2 hits theatres, Universal’s big marketing push for the film is now on in full force.

The studio today released a cool new featurette for the film, loaded with new footage as well as thoughts from the film’s cast (minus Jim Carrey, of course) and crew (including producer Matt Vaughn and director Jeff Wadlow).

I’m really looking forward to the feature, and am definitely excited to jump back into the world of Kick-Ass. Take a look at the new featurette below, and let us know what you think! Kick-Ass 2 hits theatres on August 16th!

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.

Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes. Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Briefly: Following yesterday’s new poster (and trailer for today’s trailer), Summit Entertainment has released a new theatrical trailer for this Winter’s Ender’s Game.

The preview features plenty of new footage, even giving us a glimpse of the first Bugger War, but I’m still having the same problem as I did with the previous footage. No, not Harrison Ford sounding bored beyond belief (though there’s that too): the “game” simply looks too real. The (spoiler) emotional impact at the end of the film will simply be non-existent because the viewer will easily forget that it was ever supposed to be a simulation. That revelation is what made the book memorable, and I’m just not sure how things will turn out with this adaptation.

That’s my take anyways, what’s yours? Watch the new trailer below, and let us know if you’re excited! Ender’s Game hits theatres on November 1st!

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Briefly: We’re less than one week away from the premiere of Breaking Bad‘s final half season, and AMC today debuted a new TV spot for the exciting event.

The promo, titled “Say My Name”, takes us through some of last year’s insane moments, including Hank’s realization that Walter may not be as innocent as he once thought. The spot is made up of entirely old footage, but somehow gets me excited as hell for this Sunday.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know if you’ll be tuning in!

Briefly: The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Harry Osborn, Dane DeHann, took to twitter today to debut a new image from next year’s highly anticipated film.

The image shows Harry and Peter in the Oscorp building. Harry rests comfortably in what is likely his father’s chair, while Peter stands beside an expensive-looking desk. Both characters are looking at something off-camera, perhaps watching a screen, or even speaking to another figure. It’s not the most exciting photo, but it’s certainly cool to see Harry in action.

Take a look at the new image below, and let us know what you think! What are you hoping to see in the The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Briefly: We now know when we’ll finally step back into the world of American Horror Story.

According to SpoilerTV, the series’ third season, subtitled Coven, will premiere on October 9th. The titles of the season’s first three episodes have also been revealed: “Bitchcraft”, “Boy Parts”, and “The Replacements”.

I’m a big fan of the series, and really can’t wait to see what Ryan Murphy and the rest of the team have in store for us this year!

Briefly: Summit Entertainment has just debuted a new one-sheet for this Winter’s anticipated sci-fi release, Ender’s Game.

The poster features an armor-clad Ender, and a tagline that seems a little too revealing given the plot of the film. Take a look at the image below, and be sure to let us know your thoughts! Summit has also revealed that the next trailer for Ender’s Game will hit the web tomorrow, so if you’re looking forward to the film, be on the lookout!

And here’s a preview for tomorrow’s… preview (is this really a thing now?)

Briefly: This is just too cool. As a huge fan of Pixar’s Wall-E (though who isn’t), I would kill to see this in real life.

Years in the making (and still in progress), Michael McMaster and his local builders club have crafted the most incredible real-life Wall-E that I’ve ever seen.

Tested visited McMaster as part of YouTube’s Geek Week, where the genius builder showed off his incredible, incredibly functional replica. Pixar/Wall-E fan? You need to see this:

Be sure to let us know what you think of this amazing project, and head to McMaster’s website for more Wall-E info, and to take a look at his other builds!

Briefly: After an interesting twitter campaign yesterday that had fans retweeting by the thousands, ABC has debuted a flashy new poster for their upcoming series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (that title is never going to get shorter, is it?).

The poster really doesn’t reveal anything new about the series, or better prepare us for the September 24th premiere, but seeing as the series begins in just over a month, it’s definitely time for ABC to get marketing. This poster game definitely did its duty too, as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was one of yesterday’s top trending topics.

Take a look at the new poster below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the show! Again, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres on September 24th!

agents-of-shield-poster-1

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

Briefly: After what seems like weeks (and weeks) of waiting, pondering, and speculation, BBC has finally revealed just who will take up the reins as Doctor Who‘s new Doctor.

The network has chosen 55-year old Scottish actor and Torchwood / World War Z star Peter Capaldi to portray the twelfth Doctor, whose role will officially begin after Matt Smith’s final performance in this year’s Christmas special.

I (still) have never seen an episode of the series in my entire life (despite having it recommended to me almost daily), so I really have no thoughts on the casting choice. Fans, are you looking forward to seeing Capaldi in action? Will he be a worthy replacement of Matt Smith, or is it simply too early to tell? Be sure to sound out below!

Briefly: Following the extended, red band trailer released at Comic-Con, Universal Pictures has debuted another theatrical trailer for David Twohy’s highly anticipated Riddick.

While the new preview does feature snippets of new footage, the bulk of it is simply the same footage that we’ve seen over (and over) again. It’s definitely worth a watch, however, and certainly does a good job of reigniting my excitement for the film.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to Riddick!

Prepare for the latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered.

The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

Briefly: Edgar Wright’s The World’s End is now just a few weeks away from (North American) theatres, and we couldn’t be more excited!

The Cornetto trilogy is almost over, but how about a refresher on where it began? A new, interactive screenplay for Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead has been released online, and is a great look into one of this decade’s most recognized films.

The screenplay is filled with plenty of images, videos, and notes that I’ve never seen before, and should serve as a great flip-through for fans of Wright’s films, or anyone excited for The World’s End!

Take a look at the screenplay below, and let us know if you’re excited for The World’s End!

Briefly: Machete don’t tweet, but he does kick major ass.

Open Road Films today debuted a new trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s highly anticipated, semi-delayed Machete Kills. The new preview gives us a much better look at some of the film’s secondary characters, including Carlos Estévez, Lady Gaga, Mel Gibson, and more.

Somehow, I still haven’t seen the first Machete. Machete Kills looks like a fantastic time however, so I’ll certainly be checking it out before October! Watch the new trailer below, and let us know what you think!

http://youtu.be/-sjnoJE30LM

In MACHETE KILLS, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

Briefly: This was simply too funny not to share. Minecraft fans, Shaft lovers, and proponents of Machinima are bound to get a kick out of this.

Machinima has just debut a new short film called Mineshaft. The 11+ minute comedy, of course, combines Shaft and Minecraft, and all of the connotations attached to the two. Mineshaft follows detective John Mineshaft and his dog Whitey, as they attempt to discover and catch the thieves stealing all of the Ender Pearls.

The short is an absolute blast, and as an avid Minecraft fan (who unfortunately hasn’t had the time to play in weeks), Mineshaft may be one of the best Minecraft parodies out there. Take a look at the short below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: We took our first peek at the Days of Future Past Sentinels just a few days back, and tonight director Bryan Singer gave us a much better look at one.

Fans have been skeptical of the Sentinel’s size since it was revealed that they would not stand as tall as we’re used to seeing them, but after taking a look at the photos, I almost think that they’ll now fit into the film world even better. Take a look at the full-sized unit below, and be sure to let us know your feelings on the matter! X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres on May 23rd, 2014!

Briefly: The return of AMC’s The Walking Dead is just a few months away, and the network today debuted a great new behind-the-scenes featurette.

The video features much of the show’s cast (plus The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman) revealing just a little of what you should expect in the fourth season. From the sounds of it, we’re in for an intense premiere, and what could be the most exciting year yet.

Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know what you think! The Walking Dead returns on October 13th!

Briefly: Wolfenstein: The New Order was definitely one of my most anticipated titles for this holiday season, but it looks like we’ll have to anticipate it for just a little while longer.

Bethesda confirmed today at QuakeCon that The New Order has moved from later this year to sometime in 2014. In an interview with Polygon, Bethesda’s Peter Hines gave reason for the delay:

Working on next-gen and current gen definitely has an impact, you’re developing for two different things. The fact that the next-gen stuff is still moving is also definitely a factor. But the most important thing was definitely just looking where it was at, what they needed to polish. Because it’s just not trying to be a shooter, because it’s trying to be a shooter that also has driving elements, story elements, narrative, stealth sections – each one of those has to be excellent. It’s not just like we’re making a shooter, where if the shooting is good, then all 16 hours of the game will be good because it’s all we’re doing.

We didn’t just want to do a one-note Wolfenstein game. We wanted to make something that brought in all these elements, and as it turns out, the polish time you spend on the shooting stuff has no impact on what it feels like in the stealth part.

So there you have it. The game’s going to be awesome, but it won’t be awesome until next year. As the great Shigeru Miyamoto once said: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Briefly: Nintendo Business Development Manager Dan Adelman announced yesterday that Nintendo is finally bringing eShop purchases to your computers and smartphones.

Although Adelman isn’t “personally directly involved” he has confirmed that you can log into the eShop site, purchase something, and have it download so that when you next sit at your console, it’s ready to use.  This is perfect for casual gamer who aren’t on their system all day (and every day), as it increases the accessability of the games to the players.

All they need now are Android and iPhone apps! Please?
