Briefly: Microsoft has just announced a new Xbox One bundle, and I may just buy one.

Revealed on Xbox Wire earlier today, the bundle will include everything found in today’s Xbox One package, plus a downloadable copy of EA’s highly anticipated shooter, Titanfall (which also launches on March 11th).

This game is the one title that’s made me want an Xbox One so far. I already own a Wii U and a PS4 however, so it’s been tough to justify. Titanfall, however, just looks so damned good.

Here’s the official word on the bundle from Microsoft:

After it was first unveiled at E3 last year, we were delighted to see “Titanfall” quickly become the most anticipated game of the new console generation. Winning more than 80 coveted awards from critics around the world, “Titanfall” has been described as “a brave new vision of the future of multiplayer games”, “the first real next-gen shooter” and “the most addictive game ever.”

Heralded as the “next generation of gaming” and a “killer app” for Xbox One, the excitement and anticipation for “Titanfall” has been building not just amongst gamers, but also among the Xbox team. We bet big on “Titanfall” from the beginning and Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts were tremendous partners to our team as we developed Xbox One.

In many ways, the launch of “Titanfall” will enable us to deliver the first truly next generation multiplayer game – one that will take advantage of the new party and chat improvements we’re delivering, build on the power of the cloud in a way only Microsoft can, and connect fans on Xbox Live, home of the best multiplayer and service in gaming. With Xbox One, we invested in features like multiplayer alerts so you never miss a match while watching TV and so much more.

To celebrate the launch of “Titanfall”, we wanted to do something special. For those of you who are already fans of Xbox One, we hope this will encourage more of your friends to join you on day one for “Titanfall” on Xbox One. If you’ve been waiting for the biggest game of the generation before purchasing your Xbox One, this special, limited time offer is perfect for you. In partnership with Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts, we’re excited to announce the Xbox One “Titanfall” Bundle, available starting March 11 for $499.99* at select retailers.

Take a look at Titanfall‘s latest trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be picking up a bundle.

Briefly: Following up on that Green Goblin image from a few days back, Sony Pictures has just debuted a new, 3-minute long international trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The video contains a ton of new footage and a lot of new plot revelations, so if you’re trying to head to the theatre surprised, I’d recommend that you avoid the video. It also contains way too much dubstep for any movie trailer, but other than that, it’s a pretty cool watch.

Take a look at the video, subtitled ‘Rise of Electro’ below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd.

http://youtu.be/SsTr1mjNOBs

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Briefly: Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation hasn’t even hit bookshelves yet (not until May 13th according to Amazon), but it’s already being developed into a feature film.

Hollywood’s busiest duo, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who are also working on AMC’s Preacher adaptation) will write and direct the project, while the book’s author Blake Harris will produce (and also develop a documentary based on the same subject).

The book’s synopsis makes for an extremely interesting film premise, at a very integral part of gaming history:

Following the success of The Accidental Billionaires and Moneyball comes Console Wars—a mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry.

In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But that would all change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a man who knew nothing about videogames and everything about fighting uphill battles. His unconventional tactics, combined with the blood, sweat and bold ideas of his renegade employees, transformed Sega and eventually led to a ruthless David-and-Goliath showdown with rival Nintendo.

The battle was vicious, relentless, and highly profitable, eventually sparking a global corporate war that would be fought on several fronts: from living rooms and schoolyards to boardrooms and Congress. It was a once-in-a-lifetime, no-holds-barred conflict that pitted brother against brother, kid against adult, Sonic against Mario, and the US against Japan.

Based on over two hundred interviews with former Sega and Nintendo employees, Console Wars is the underdog tale of how Kalinske miraculously turned an industry punchline into a market leader. It’s the story of how a humble family man, with an extraordinary imagination and a gift for turning problems into competitive advantages, inspired a team of underdogs to slay a giant and, as a result, birth a $60 billion dollar industry.

We teased this one a few days ago on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and now we’re ready to show you the goods!

A few days back, Jonathan sat down with The Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno, to film an interview for our new YouTube channel, GeekscapeTV. Geekscape TV is a serious reimagining of our old YouTube channel (it is a different channel, so be sure to subscribe to the new one), and one that we intend to fill to the brim with original, awesome content (like the first trailer for Hero of the Prophecy and the just-remastered HD cut of Gay By Dawn).

Ferrigno2

During the interview, Jonathan learned that Lou actually has an addiction to Angry Birds, so naturally Jon showed him the world’s latest bird themed mobile phone obsession, Flappy Bird. Take a look at both the interview and the Flappy Bird session below, and let us know what you think!

Don’t forget to subscribe, as we have plenty of content coming down the pipeline.

Here’s Lou playing Flappy Bird:

And here’s the full interview:

What’s your Flappy Bird high score?

This may be the most useful project that we’ve ever featured on Crowdfund This.

RPG’s are freaking cool. And I don’t mean Pokemon X/Y or Final Fantasy XIV or Bravely Default (even though I have all three in front of me right now and they’re all fantastic), I’m talking tabletop; Dungeons and DragonsPathfinderWarhammer, etc. Sadly, not nearly enough people have any idea where to get started when it comes to tabletop gaming.

I’m, unfortunately, one of those people. About a year and a half ago, I decided that I wanted to get into D&D. I went out and bought a shit-ton of miniatures (awesome deal on Craigslist), picked up the (now unavailable) Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set, grabbed a bunch of my friends, and… we got as far as character creation. Sure, I loved every second of it, but as soon as it came time to actually play the game, play our characters, and actually role-play, everything fell apart; people got silly, we had no idea what we were doing (even with the instructions, it was tough), and we only attempted to play one more time before much of the group decided that it wasn’t for them.

I’ve still been interested in the game since that time, but simply haven’t had an opportunity (or group) to really learn about what I was doing (and what any of it meant). Saving Throw may be just what I (and you) need to really figure things out.

Just take a look at the Kickstarter video below to get an idea of what it’s all about:

It’s really a simple idea, and I’m not sure why it hasn’t been done before, but here it is: an instructional series on how to play tabletop RPG’s. I’m in!

The project describes itself as “an instructional web-series and website, designed to teach you not only how to play, but why. We love pen & paper role-playing games and want to share that passion with you, your friends, and the world.

With over 40 years of history, RPGs can be an intimidating prospect for some geeks. And with new systems emerging each year knowing the choices and rules becomes daunting. That’s where Saving Throw comes in!

Saving Throw will teach you what you need to get started in a friendly and engaging manner where YOU are in control. Episodes will be bite-sized and shareable because we know you’ve got that life-thing that keeps getting in the way!”

'Saving Throw' hosts Ivan Van Norman, Amy Vorpahl, and Ben Dunn
‘Saving Throw’ hosts Ivan Van Norman, Amy Vorpahl, and Ben Dunn

The project is already at $6978 of its $8000 goal (a great start), but the group (including Ben Dunn, who you may recognize around these parts) has a variety of stretch goals in place to take Saving Throw even further, and you can be a part of it!

As always, there are plenty of awesome rewards up for grabs, including, shirts, bags, PDF’s, custom-written songs, producer credits, and a lot more! You probably always wanted to learn how to play RPG’s (or didn’t know that it interested you until now), and here’s your chance! You can check out the campaign page for Saving Throw here, and be sure to let us know if you back the project!

Already a tabletop gamer? What’s you’re favourite system? What are your thoughts on D&D Next? Sound out below!

Briefly: I definitely was not expecting to read this tonight (or ever), but NBC has just announced that Heroes will return in 2015.

The reborn series, fittingly titled Heroes Reborn, boasts original creator Tim Kring at the helm, and will be a self-contained 13-episode arc. No word yet on which character’s we’ll see return for the new series.

Take a look at the full press release below, and head further down for the series’ first teaser.

An iconic series that still commands a rabid fan base, “Heroes” will return to the network in 2015 as an event miniseries with original creator and executive producer Tim Kring at the helm, it was announced today by NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.

NBC has ordered 13 episodes for a new stand-alone story arc entitled “Heroes Reborn,” with all details of storylines and characters being kept under wraps.

“The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

The original series chronicled the life-changing stories of a series of unrelated ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities. As the saga unfolded, they learned they were part of a grand plan that brought them together to change the world.

With the return of “Heroes Reborn,” NBC will launch a digital series prior to the 2015 premiere that will introduce the characters and new storylines. This leveraging of social media is a way for fans to re-engage with what was one for the true pioneers in multiplatform storytelling.

#HeroesReborn

The iconic sci-fi series, which ran on NBC from 2006-10 and was an immediate hit, ranked as television’s #1 new drama with an average audience of 14.5 million viewers during its initial season. The show was Golden Globe-nominated in its first year of eligibility for best drama series; it won the BAFTA Award for best international series, the AFI Award, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Saturn Award, two People’s Choice Awards and the Television Critics Association Award for Program of the Year.

“Heroes” remains one of the best-selling TV series on DVD of all time with more than 10 million units sold.

Excited? I sure am. Even through Heroes low points, I remained a fan, and damn that fourth season cliffhanger! I was very disappointed that the concluding film (and then comic) never came to light, so I’m very hopefully that this new series will give us some closure.

Briefly: Yes, yes, yes!

Of course Warner Bros. phenomenal The Lego Movie is getting a sequel. It’s still tearing up the box office WEEKS after release, the thing is way, way better than we could have ever wished, and its theme song, ‘Everything Is Awesome’ is STILL stuck in our heads.

We want more, and we’re getting more… but not until 2017.

Yep, the movie is schedule to hit theatres on May 26th, 2017, which is way later than we’d like, but we’ll take what we can get (animation is hard guys, give them a break).

For now, you’ll have to just watch this on repeat. Let us know if you loved The Lego Movie as much as we did, and if you’re excited that it’s getting a sequel!

Briefly: Back in December, Warner Bros. and Legendary released the awesome first trailer for Gareth Edward’s Godzilla. Since then, aside from the announcement of a tie-in graphic novel, we haven’t heard or seen much action in terms of marketing.

Today, the studio debuted a bad-ass new poster for the film, which (of course) features a city in absolute chaos, and an unscathed-looking Godzilla walking away from the destruction. Take a look at the image below, and let us know if you’re excited! Godzilla hits theatres on May 16th!

Didn’t make it to SDCC last year? Legendary also put on an amazing ‘Godzilla Encounter‘ event, which you can check out here!

Godzilla

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Briefly: It was just two nights ago that we got our fantastic first look at Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (rewatch the trailer here), and today Marvel debuted a small teaser for each of the film’s main characters, as well as the movie’s first poster!

You can take a look at everything below, and be sure to let us know what you think of Rocket Raccoon’s first lines! Guardians of the Galaxy hits theatres on August 1st!

It’s too bad we didn’t hear Groot speak today, but I guess that Marvel has to save something for another day. Take a look at the film’s first poster below, and let us know how awesome you think the film looks!

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchise of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits -Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Briefly: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is just a few months away at this point (the film hits theatres on May 2nd), and strangely enough, Sony has only really shown off one of the film’s three villains.

We’ve seen plenty of Jamie Foxx’s Electro, but both Paul Giamatti’s Rhino and Dane Dehaan’s Green Goblin have been all but ignored. Today, the studio debuted a new still from the film, and it features our best look at the new Green Goblin yet!

Take a look at the image below (he kinda looks like Martin Short in The Santa Clause 3, doesn’t he?) and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film!

Briefly: With less that a year and a half until the film is scheduled to hit theatres, the cast of Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot has reportedly been revealed.

According to Variety, final deals are still being completed (and one actor hasn’t received one yet), but if everything goes according to plan,  the new Fantastic Four will consist of:

MichaelBJordan

Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch.

KateMara

Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman.

JamieBell

Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm.

MilesTeller

Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic.

Variety also states that the reboot will be based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four series. Next up, who do you want to play the villain, and who do you want that villain to be? Sound out below!

Fantastic Four hits theatres on June 19th, 2015!

Briefly: IGN today revealed our first look at Agent 47 and its new leading man, Rupert Friend. Friend obtained the role after the tragic passing of Paul Walker back in November, who was signed on to play the titular character.

Friend stars alongside Zachary Quinto and Hannah Ware, though no plot details have been revealed at this time.

Take a look at the first image below, and let us know what you think! Does Friend suit the role? Or would you rather see another actor in his place?

Briefly: We already know that Emilia Clarke is our new Sarah Connor, and that Jason Clarke is John Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot. Today, Paramount Pictures revealed the new Kyle Reese.

It’s Jai Courtney, who will soon show up in Divergent, and recently starred in I, Frankenstein and A Good Day to Die Hard.

No plot details have been announced at this time (but it’s probably not the awesome sounding 1940’s-1950’s origin story), but as was revealed before, this will be the first film in a new Terminator trilogy.

Is Courtney a good fit for the role? Or is there someone else you’d rather see? Let us know! The yet-untitled Terminator reboot hits theatres on June 26th, 2015!

Briefly: The cast of Fox’s Gotham has grown yet again.

This time, Jada Pinkett Smith has joined the project as Fish Mooney, “a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner. Wielding street smarts and the almost extra-sensory ability to read people, Fish is imposing and hotheaded — and not one to be crossed.”

Pinkett joins Donal Logue (Harvey Bullock), Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot), Zabryna Guevara (Captain Essen), Sean Pertwee (Alfred Pennyworth), Erin Richards (Barbara Kean), and of course Benjamin McKenzie (James Gordon).

What do you think of the casting so far? Who else would you like to see nab a role? Sound out below!

Briefly: Here it is, folks. Following the brief, 15-second (but really, really cool) teaser from earlier today, and yesterday’s three new stills, Marvel has debuted the first full trailer for the James Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy.

As you know, the film stars Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser… and on, and on, and on! Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Guardians of the Galaxy hits theatres on August 1st, 2014!

With exclusives like Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Lego City Undercover, and not to mention the still-coming-this-year Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 (just to name a few), you shouldn’t really need another reason to pick up a Wii U.

But as it happens, here’s a damned good one; Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Screen1

To start, from the very second that I tapped on the Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze icon on the Wii U home screen, I had an ear-to-ear grin on my face. The game’s loading music immediately brought me back to my youth and my days (and days) of yelling at my Super Nintendo and Donkey Kong Country for killing me when I clearly shouldn’t have been killed.

I eventually played through all of Super Nintendo’s Donkey Kong titles (watching the animated series in-between), fell madly in love with Donkey Kong 64, and even Diddy Kong Racing during the next generation (though I’ll hold my ground at ‘it was no Mario Kart‘). I missed out on 2010’s Donkey Kong Country Returns, but now that I’ve played through Tropical Freeze, I’ll be trying to find a copy immediately.

Following the beautiful loading music, you’ll be greeted by the rest of the game’s fantastic audio (and then you may look it up and realize that original DKC composer David Wise has returned for the game). Then come the visuals, which will have you realizing within seconds that Tropical Freeze is quite possibly the best looking game on the Wii U today. Seriously. The gorgeous colours, backgrounds, levels, and characters are virtually without equal, and once they start moving, you may find yourself simply staring in awe at the wondrous 1080p visuals. DK and company (Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky will accompany you during the game, and a second player can even take control) have never, ever looked this good, and it’s almost tough to imagine them ever looking any better.

Playing through Tropical Freeze, even in its earlier levels, is a stark reminder of just how easy today’s games have become. I would bet that I died more playing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze over this past week than I have in every game that I’ve played in the last five years… combined (aside from maybe Flappy Bird). Dying, of course, is frustrating by nature (especially, as I mentioned, since it rarely happens these days), but I was always willing to jump right back in and perfect that missed jump or get revenge on the enemy that killed me. Plus, the level design is so good that I don’t simply want to pass them, but actually experience them, and spending more time in a single stage isn’t a bad way to do that.

You won't find me on here... But I can dream.
You won’t find me on here… But I can dream.

Then, of course, there’s the collectables, which will have you playing through the game multiple times because they’re so addicting and so impossible to find on your first time through. I still haven’t found nearly as many as I’d like to, and DKCTF has brought out the completionist in me far more than any other game in recent memory.

The title thankfully offers players a few different control types, including the Wii U Gamepad, Wii Remote + Nunchuk, and Wii U Pro Controller, and all options are precise, enjoyable, and easy to control. Tropical Freeze does support offscreen play (which I use all the time, and love), but sadly, using the Gamepad as your controller adds absolutely zero additions to the gameplay. That’s a missed opportunity right there, and for a first-party that’s trying (and not really succeeding) to sell consoles, it’s almost inexcusable.

Brings you back, doesn't it?
Brings you back, doesn’t it?

Overall, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is quite possibly the best side-scrolling platformer that I’ve played in years. It’s far better than the excellent New Super Mario Bros. U and its expansion, and is my favourite Donkey Kong title of all-time. I hope that Retro Studios’ latest gets the recognition it deserves, as it deserves to sell some consoles, and that they soon get hard to work on a follow-up (maybe by the time it releases I’ll have found all of the collectables in this one). The game can be frustratingly difficult at times (it’ll make you go bananas, yeah I went there), but it’s likely that these frustrations lay with our expectations of a modern game’s difficulty; I’m no longer used to attempting the same stage ten or fifteen times, and that sometimes makes yell-at-the-TV mad, but when I think back to my childhood, what game didn’t force that many attempts?

Don’t own a Wii U yet? Buy one, and make Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze one of your first purchases. Aside from the game all but pretending that the Wii U’s main differentiator (the Gamepad) doesn’t exist, it’s probably the best platformer that we’ll see all year on any console.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze scores a 4.5/5.

Briefly: Irrational Games is no more.

Studio head Ken Levine is sticking with 2K, along with 15 other Irrational employees, but unfortunately everyone else will be in need of work. It seems crazy to shut down a team responsible for creating some of the best games this generation, but alas, it’s happening.

Here’s the full release, straight from Ken Levine:

When Jon Chey, Rob Fermier and I founded Irrational Games seventeen years ago, our mission was to make visually unique worlds and populate them with singular characters.

We built Rapture and Columbia, the Von Braun and The Rickenbacker, the Freedom Fortress and some of the nastiest basements a SWAT team ever set foot into. We created Booker and Elizabeth, the Big Daddy and the Little Sister, MidWives and ManBot. In that time, Irrational has grown larger and more successful than we could have conceived when we began our three-person studio in a living room in Cambridge, MA. It’s been the defining project of my professional life.

Now Irrational Games is about to roll out the last DLC for BioShock Infinite and people are understandably asking: What’s next?

Seventeen years is a long time to do any job, even the best one. And working with the incredible team at Irrational Games is indeed the best job I’ve ever had. While I’m deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together, my passion has turned to making a different kind of game than we’ve done before. To meet the challenge ahead, I need to refocus my energy on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers. In many ways, it will be a return to how we started: a small team making games for the core gaming audience.

I am winding down Irrational Games as you know it. I’ll be starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two. That is going to mean parting ways with all but about fifteen members of the Irrational team. There’s no great way to lay people off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition.

Besides financial support, the staff will have access to the studio for a period of time to say their goodbyes and put together their portfolios. Other Take-Two studios will be on hand to discuss opportunities within the company, and we’ll be hosting a recruiting day where we’ll be giving 3rd party studios and publishers a chance to hold interviews with departing Irrational staff.*

What’s next?

In time we will announce a new endeavor with a new goal: To make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable. To foster the most direct relationship with our fans possible, we will focus exclusively on content delivered digitally.

When I first contemplated what I wanted to do, it became very clear to me that we were going to need a long period of design. Initially, I thought the only way to build this venture was with a classical startup model, a risk I was prepared to take. But when I talked to Take-Two about the idea, they convinced me that there was no better place to pursue this new chapter than within their walls. After all, they’re the ones who believed in and supported BioShock in the first place.

Thanks to Irrational and 2K’s passion in developing the games, and the fans who believe in it, BioShock has generated retail revenues of over a half billion dollars and secured an iconic place in gaming. I’m handing the reins of our creation, the BioShock universe, to 2K so our new venture can focus entirely on replayable narrative. If we’re lucky, we’ll build something half as memorable as BioShock.

We will do our best to update an FAQ in this space as questions come in.

-Ken Levine

Briefly: Sony has just revealed that, preceding the PS4’s launch in Japan on February 22nd, the console has over 5.3 million units.

That’s a lot of freaking consoles, and they’re likely to sell a boatload more in Japan next week.

“I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “We are delighted that according to the NPD Group’s latest data, PS4 was January’s top-selling console in the United States. The PS4 system’s momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans. February 22 sees the launch of PS4 in Japan, and I’m looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4.”

The company has also released their first advertisement for Playstation Plus, which is required for online gaming on the PS4, and is an absolutely worthwhile service that nets you free games and steep discounts every single month. Take a look at the ad below, and let us know if you’ve picked up a unit yet.

Briefly: Following those three bad-ass photos that Marvel released just yesterday, the studio has debuted a brief, 15-second look at tonight’s Guardians of the Galaxy trailer.

There’s not much to say except that the footage here looks fantastic, and we can’t wait to see what Marvel has in store for us tonight. Take a look at the sneak peek below, and let us know what you hope to see in the full trailer!

Octodad: Dadliest Catch launched for Windows, OS X, and Linux just a few weeks back, and as the insanely original title has been at the top of my radar since Sony’s 2013 E3 conference, I simply had to ask Octodad developer Young Horses a few questions about the quirky, hilarious, absolutely ridiculous game.

Haven’t heard of Octodad? Fall in love with the game’s trailer below, and read on for my conversation with Young Horses’ CEO Philip Tibitoski.

http://youtu.be/O-n7sH3ksVk

DK: First of all, congratulations on the launch! What have been your favourite gamer reactions to ‘Octodad: Dadliest Catch’ now that it’s available?

PT: People have been surprised with the turns that the story takes in the game and I think that’s the part of it I was most excited for people to see. There’s been a surplus of fanart, youtube videos, and songs all based on the game. It’s been great! I have a hard time deciding between Octodad The Musical and the Ryckerts playing the game together.

DK: ‘Octodad: Dadliest Catch’ is an extremely original game in a sea of sequels and remakes. When was the idea for the game originally conceived, and where did that idea come from?

PT: The idea for Octodad came about in June of 2010 at DePaul University here in Chicago. The whole Young Horses team was also part of that original team of 18. Inspirations for Octodad come from the film Being John Malkovich and the game Jurassic Park: Trespasser. From the beginning it’s been about micro-managing the movements of your character and giving the player the feeling of being awkward.

DK: It was very cool to see Octodad onstage at Sony’s E3 conference. How did that come to light? Sony seems to be doing some great things with independent developers this generation!

PT: Sony’s been following us since GDC 2011 with the first Octodad. We weren’t quite ready at the time to bring the game to consoles and so we waited, but while we did that Sony kept up with the game and its progress. At PAX East 2013 they came to our booth to check-in and that’s when we were offered Dev Kits for the PS4. From there we had one of our programmers, Kevin Geisler, get the game up and running in a months time. Sony seemed impressed with this and asked us if we’d like to show it off at E3. Like people say, the rest is history.

DK: What made the team decide to turn Octodad into a full-fledged title after the Independent Games Festival in 2011?

PT: We got a lot of positive feedback both from our peers and players after releasing the first Octodad game. After seeing so many folks play the game on YouTube and watching them have a great time we figured we could do even better by giving it a proper sequel.

DK: What were the biggest challenges in developing Dadliest Catch with such a small team?

PT: Keeping everyone clothed, fed, and happy was a serious task as most of us had to hold other full-time jobs while continuing to work on the project in order to afford basic amenities. It’s also a big challenge to make sure everyone is being heard, and communications between members stays steady + empathetic.

DK: Is any add-on content being planned for the game? It seems like a title that’s just asking for DLC!

PT: We have a whole slew of ideas that we could see bringing to players in the future. We don’t have any definite plans yet, but I certainly wouldn’t count us out of the DLC ring.

DK: If you could describe the game in just a few sentences to someone who had never heard of it, how would you sell it?

PT: Octodad is a game about being ‘other’. You’re an octopus with a human family, a wife and children who have no idea you’re an octopus. You keep this from them through managing Octodad’s limbs one at a time and being the best father/husband you can be.

DK: After ‘Octodad’, what’s next for Young Horses? Is there anything currently in the pipeline or being discussed?

PT: We have a lot of ideas, but nothing has formulated yet that we know will be our next project. Currently we’re finishing the game up on PS4 and then we’ll have to see!

DK: What other games is the team playing? What unreleased games are you looking forward to?

PT: I’m looking forward to Infamous: Second Son and the Witness. I know a lot of the team has played Broken Age recently and at least one is knee deep in the Titanfall PC Beta.

DK: What is the best advice that you could give to someone wanting to break into the industry? What do they do? Where do they start?

PT: Making a game is the best thing you can possibly do. Create something small on your own, and maybe start out trying to replicate an existing game to get comfortable with your toolset before venturing out on your own creative ideas. Just keep it simple! Even Tetris can be a challenging thing to create if you’ve never made a game before.

After that, keep making games and challenge yourself to create things different from other games out there. These will all help you land a job or maybe even start out on your own. The worst thing you can do is become complacent and admit defeat without having even tried.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is available now on Steam, or directly from Octodad‘s official website. The game is coming soon to PS4, and it’s awesome. Buy it, love it, and let’s hope that Young Horses makes more!

Briefly: I’ve been meaning to try League of Legends for quite some time now. I told myself that I would play it when the Mac beta launched in March of last year… and for some reason it’s still sitting on my SSD unplayed.

After watching the League of Legends: Beyond the Rift video, which kicked off Machinima’s #LOLWEEK today, I want to give it a shot right now.

This week’s League of Legends theme is building up to the launch of Chasing the Cup, and all-new LoL competition series from Machinima.:

League of Legends fans awaiting the launch of Chasing the Cup—Machinima’s new LoL competition series—can whet their appetites with a week-long celebration known as #LoLWeek. Airing on Machinima Realm (YouTube.com/MachinimaRealm), the series of live-action and CGI-animated videos will showcase a who’s-who of League of Legends champions, including Jax, Veigar, Fiddlesticks, Ahri, Graves, Miss Fortune, Kog’Maw, Lux,Mecha Kha’zix, and Ashe. A new video will debut each day at 9:00 am PST (12:00 pm EST), all leading up to the Friday launch of Chasing the Cup on Machinima’s Twitch channel (Twitch.tv/Machinima).

New videos will be published each day, beginning with Jax vs. Veigar. Watch the amazing League of Legends: Beyond the Rift video below, and let us know what else you hope to see this week? Are you a LoL player? What’s your favourite thing about the title? Sound out below!

Briefly: Disney today debuted two new teasers for their upcoming animated series, Star Wars Rebels. This follows the first teaser revealed back in October, which was a cool announcement video but didn’t really show anything off.

Today’s teasers are called ‘Spark’ and ‘Ignite’, and each show off some very exciting footage from the project. Take a look at each teaser and its description below.

“To ignite a rebellion, all it takes is a single spark.” Those fateful words open this early look at Star Wars Rebels, in which new character Ezra is shown walking the plains of Lothal and launching a projectile at the pilot of a downed fighter. Also seen is a striking, orange, familiar-looking insignia…

Opening with the classic “Imperial March” theme from the original Star Wars trilogy, the teaser shows the golden plains of Lothal, TIE fighters dogfighting with the Ghost starship, as well as the grumpy droid, Chopper. Ezra, one of the main heroes of Star Wars Rebels, is seen leaping from a downed ship as the narrator exclaims, “This fall, discover your destiny.”

Pretty great, huh? Star Wars Rebels launches this Fall!

Star Wars Rebels takes place between Star Wars: Episode III and IV as the Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy and a rebellion begins to form. The series, executive produced by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman, is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD.

Briefly: Finally, finally finally, the first trailer for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is nearly here. The preview will release during tomorrow’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! We’ll have it up shortly afterwards, so be on the lookout!

Three stills from the film have also debuted online, so those will have to do until the trailer comes tomorrow! Take a look at the stills below, and let us know what you hope to see tomorrow!

Briefly: Following last week’s 15-minute behind-the-scenes look at Game of Thrones fourth season, HBO has debuted a new trailer for the upcoming episodes.

I haven’t yet finished season three, so I’m not too sure what I’ve missed, but I’m sure glad to know that Joffrey is still alive. I love that guy (not).

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you hope to see in season four! Game of Thrones premieres on April 6th! We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date with further marketing from the season.

Now, I really need to catch up.

Briefly: Showtime has just released the full trailer for their upcoming horror/drama series, Penny Dreadful, and it looks very cool.

In Penny Dreadful, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula – have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series is a frightening psychosexual thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan’s Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road), both of Neal Street.

The series is set to premiere on May 11th, so for now, take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Every time I see another trailer for South Park: The Stick of Truth, I get more and more excited for it… and then it gets delayed again. But now that the game has gone gold, and has an official, final release date of March 4th, you’re pretty well safe to get excited again. The game looks awesome, the dialogue is hilarious, the voice acting is perfect, and you’re basically inside of a freaking episode.

Today, Ubisoft debuted 13 minutes of new gameplay for the game, which shows our introduction to the new kid, and his introduction to the various residents of South Park. The video is well worth watching, and definitely gives us a great idea of what to expect from the title.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think. South Park: The Stick of Truth will launch on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on March 4th.

In their latest adventure, the boys embark on a quest to the Inn of the Giggling Donkey, an infamous tavern that harbors the scum of all the realm.

There, it is believed the famed Bard guards the hallowed stick of truth. In order to defeat the Bard’s followers, you’ll have to throw everything you have at the enemy, including dodge balls and farts. Poison your foes with your flatulence, and refill your mana with burritos.

Along with your party member Butters and his legendary hammer of justice, play through the most outrageous turn-based live-action role-playing adventure that could only come from the creators of South Park. This is South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Briefly: Finally, Shinji Mikami and Tango Gameworks The Evil Within has a release date.

The survival horror title (which looks fantastic, check out some gameplay footage here) will launch in North America on August 26th, and Europe on August 29th.

As a big fan of survival horror games, 2014 really seems like a great year to follow the genre. The fantastic Outlast just launched for PS4, Zombie Studios Daylight looks promising, Techland’s Dying Light should be awesome, and there are plenty of other games coming down the pipeline. Unless a Silent Hill reboot is announced (that doesn’t suck), Mikami’s name attached to The Evil Within could be the best news the genre has had in years, and it certainly has horror fans excited.

Are you looking forward to this one? Sound out below!

While investigating the scene of a gruesome mass murder, Detective Sebastian Castellanos and his partners encounter a mysterious and powerful force. After seeing the slaughter of fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. Facing unimaginable terror and fighting for survival, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel what’s behind this evil force.

Briefly: This news can’t be surprising for anyone, but The CW has renewed their hit series Arrow for a third season.

While Arrow remains the most watched show on the network, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Reign, and The Originals also received early renewals.

No information on what’s to come has been revealed at this point (duh, we’re still in the middle of season two), but I’m sure we’ll be seeing even more sexy posters before the year is up. What do you hope to see next? Sound out below!

Briefly: Today’s Nintedo Direct presentation was sweet as always (and including the Mario Kart 8 release date, which I’m beyond excited for), but the big N also revealed a very odd eShop title with an even stranger purchasing system.

The game is called Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball, and according to the announcement, “Ex-pro baseball player and dog Rusty Slugger owns a sports shack. He’s broke with 10 puppies to feed, so he offers a variety of baseball mini-games for sale, themed around the simple pleasures of baseball. Players can bat, pitch, catch and even umpire.”

The game sounds simple enough, but it’s Nintendo’s purchasing structure for the title that’s really intriguing: “The initial software containing a part of the first mini-game is free, but players can purchase additional mini-games in a unique way: by haggling to lower the real-world price for each downloadable game. Additional games start at $4 apiece, but giving Rusty items or listening to his problems might improve his mood and motivate him to offer steep discounts. The game is scheduled to launch in April.”

So… You can haggle with the NPC to bring the price of the add-on’s down. That is incredible.

In any case, take a look at a few screenshots below, and let us know if you’ll be checking this one out!

Briefly: So, The Lego Movie has been out for a couple of weeks at this point. We’ve broken it down on the podcast, are still wildly addicted to its theme song, and now Warner Bros. has debuted a blooper reel for the film, which seems almost entirely fake, but is also entirely AWESOME.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think. Haven’t checked out The Lego Movie yet? What the heck are you waiting for!

An ordinary guy named Emmet (Chris Pratt) is mistaken as being the Master Builder, the one who can save the universe. With the aid of an old mystic Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), a tough young lady named Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), and Batman (Will Arnett), Emmet will fight to defeat the evil tyrant Lord Business (Will Ferrell) who is bent on destroying the universe by gluing it together.
