20th Century Fox has released a new poster for ‘The Martian’. The poster features Matt Damon as Astronaut Mark Watney peering into your soul with his dreamy big blue eyes and his “I’m fucked” face.

New+Poster+The+Martian

I just recently read Andy Weir’s The Martian and it was easily the best book I’ve read in some time. It’s a quick read and would suggest anyone to give it a shot before the movie comes out. When the cast was announced I started to compare the actors to the books characters and based on the trailers, Matt Damon perfectly embodies the Mark Watney character. Personally, the performance I’m most looking forward to is Kristin Wiig’s take on the foul mouthed firecracker Annie Montrose.

And in case you missed it, here is the most recent trailer that was released a week ago.

‘The Martian’ invades theaters October 2, 2015.

Briefly: Everyone on planet Earth already knows that Fox’s newly released Fantastic Four reboot is dismal (both in quality, and its box office performance).

Conan found it fairly surprising that the movie didn’t do better. To make viewers understand where he was coming from, he showed off a couple of new clips from the film, showcasing the movie’s incredible special effects, as well as the actors fantastic emotional range.

It’s a great watch, and might just help change your tune on Fantastic Four.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you thought of the film! If you’re looking for more Fantastic Four discussion, you should probably check out this week’s episode of Geekscape.

Briefly: Well this is interesting.

Fox’s new Fantastic Four film has received nothing but hate since it was announced. Now that the film has finally released, it appears as though all of the negativity (or at least most of it) was warranted (listen to our thoughts on the film via the newest episode of Geekscape), and fans, moviegoers, and keyboard cowboys everywhere have already decided that this new films abhorrent reception and box office performance means that the rights are definitely headed back to Marvel.

Well, apparently not.

The studios chief of domestic distribution, Chris Aronson said the following to THR earlier today regarding the film’s performance, as well as the franchise’ future:

While we’re disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe.

Our Marvel universe. Sure sounds like they’re not ready to give up the ghost just yet, doesn’t it? Constantin Film also has until 2023 to release another Fantastic Four film before rights would revert back to Marvel, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing something from the IP in the coming years.

Have you seen Fantastic Four yet? What did you think? What do you hope happens to the franchise next? Sound out below!

Briefly: It’s almost time for Fantastic Four! Sure, we still don’t know if it’ll be better or worse than the abysmal film from 2005 (my guess, much better), but I’m more interested in whether or not director Josh Trank can follow up 2012’s Chronicle with, well, something equally fantastic.

Today, Fox debuted four new clips for the film that introduce us to our heroes. Take a look below!

The clips each look to have a few seconds of new footage, and though the film has been getting a ton of internet hate (since long before we saw any footage), I think it looks pretty cool.

Are you looking forward to the film? Share your thoughts below! Fantastic Four opens on August 7th!

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

20th Century Fox has released the last trailer for their upcoming film, Fantastic Four, due out on August 7, 2015.

The last trailer gives us a couple of new scenes including a clip of just how smart Reed Richards was as a kid when his experiment blacks out his whole neighborhood. What a rascal.

The films stars Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Jamie Bell as ol’ blue eyes The Thing , and Toby Kebbell as Doctor Doom.

Are you looking forward to the film? What did you think of this final trailer? Sound out below!

The official Fantastic Four twitter account just tweeted out the film’s official poster. We get an up close look at the redesigned uniforms and a bit of a showcase of their powers, aside from Reed Richards (Miles Teller).

They don’t look too bad, but I have learned over the years to never judge the costume redesigns in superhero movies until you see them in action on the screen. I personally have no problem with Johnny (Michael B. Jordan) and Sue Storms (Kate Mara) outfits, and Ben (Jamie Bell) is looking rock solid in his banana hammock. But why does Reed look like his arms and legs are covered in Slinkys. I know we have yet to see him stretch so I’m thinking the coils on his appendages are going to be functional in design.

What do you guys think of the first poster, sound out in the comments below!

Briefly: Following the film’s first teaser trailer from all the way back in January, TotalFilm has just debuted four new stills from Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four.

It’s been a long road for the controversial film, but I have to say that I’m looking forward to seeing Trank’s vision for the team. I was a big fan of Chronicle, so it’ll be great to see if he has another gem in him. In any case, this looks nothing like the previous Fantastic Four films, which can only be a good thing (and it really couldn’t be worse, could it?)

Take a look at the stills below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film. Fantastic Four hits theatres on August 7th.

Briefly: The long awaited teaser trailer for the controversial and heavily bashed Fantastic Four reboot is finally here… and we (or I , at least) actually kind of dig it (more than that Ant-Man trailer anyways).

The trailer shows our heroes in various facets of life before they become, well, fantastic, and then science happens, things go wrong, and superpowers are gained. It all looks very dark and ominous (which didn’t work for The Amazing Spider-Man, but definitely looks as though it could work here), and I really can’t wait to see more.

I also absolutely loved Josh Trank’s previous film, Chronicle, so this one gets points for having him involved. In any case, this looks nothing like the previous Fantastic Four films, which can only be a good thing (and it really couldn’t be worse, could it?)

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Fantastic Four hits theatres on August 7th!

They’ve also released some interesting commentary along with the trailer:

Briefly: The upcoming Fantastic Four reboot’s controversial cast was revealed back in February, announcing our new heroes, but leaving out our new villain (both in character and actor).

According to Variety, The East and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star Toby Kebbell is in negotiations to play Doctor Doom in the upcoming film. I’m sure that most of us had guessed that Doctor Doom would be the film’s antagonist, and… it looks like we were right and that Fox isn’t taking any more chances with the film.

We’ll be sure to let you know when it’s official, and to fill you in on any more Fantastic Four news as it surfaces.

Briefly: With less that a year and a half until the film is scheduled to hit theatres, the cast of Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot has reportedly been revealed.

According to Variety, final deals are still being completed (and one actor hasn’t received one yet), but if everything goes according to plan,  the new Fantastic Four will consist of:

MichaelBJordan

Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch.

KateMara

Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman.

JamieBell

Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm.

MilesTeller

Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic.

Variety also states that the reboot will be based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four series. Next up, who do you want to play the villain, and who do you want that villain to be? Sound out below!

Fantastic Four hits theatres on June 19th, 2015!

Briefly: Following some interesting teasers (check them out here and here) and the film’s first trailer back in December, Paramount has just released the second trailer for The Dark Knight Rises cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence.

The newest preview is clearly similar to the trailer we’ve already seen, but it definitely expands on the “this is going too far” aspect of Depp’s, well, transcendence. The film features an all-star cast consisting of Johnny Depp, Kate Mara, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Cillian Murphy, and plenty of others, and everyone look well used in the picture. I really cannot wait to see this one.

Transcendence hits theatres on April 17th, and it’s definitely one to watch out for. Take a look at the preview below, and let us know what you think!

http://youtu.be/rD3OBtxNkW0

Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him.

However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can… but if they should.

Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

Briefly: After two days of interesting teasers (check them out here and here), Paramount has finally released the first theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight Rises cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence.

The trailer sets up an extremely intriguing plot for the film, and as expected from Pfister, everything looks gorgeous. The all-star cast of Johnny Depp, Kate Mara, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Cillian Murphy, and plenty of others look well used in the picture, and I really can’t wait to see more of this.

This teaser features a voiceover from actress Kate Mara, and plays off as much more of a warning than yesterday’s videos. Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know what you think!

From writer/director Jamie Linden comes 10 Years, the story of a group of friends who gather for their ten year reunion only to realize they all still have some growing up to do. The movie features an impressive cast with the likes of Channing Tatum (sorry ladies, he keeps his clothes on for this one), Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Anthony Mackie, Oscar Isaac, Ari Graynor and Chris Pratt.

As previously stated the story revolves around the ten year high school reunion of a group of friends and it centers around Jake (Channing Tatum) as he drives into town with his girlfriend Jess, played by Tatum’s real-life wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Jake wants to propose to Jess but is waiting for the right moment. They meet up at the house of married friends Sam (Graynor) and Cully (Pratt) with the rest of the old gang for some good old fashioned pre-partying. From there it’s off to reunion and the rest of the film is pretty paint by numbers.

This isn’t a bad thing per say, each member of the cast has their moment to shine. Chris Pratt and Oscar Isaac are the best parts of the movie as far as I’m concerned. Pratt steals just about every scene he’s in as Cully. See, in high school Cully was sort of a dick as well as a bully and that’s something that he wants to make right by appologizing to the nerds that he tormented back in the day. Of course as he tries to make amends he also happens to be in the process of getting shit faced, so hilarity naturally occurs. As for Oscar Isaac’s character Reeves, he’s the guy who made it big as a musician after high school with a hit song. The rest of his classmates continusely come up to him at the reunion expressing their love of his music but Reeves only pays them half attention because there’s only one girl he has his sights on. That girl is Elise, played by the lovely Kate Mara, and she was the girl that Reeves had a crush on in high school. Of course she didn’t know this though.

10 Years isn’t going to win any awards or break new ground in the genre, but it is far from a bad movie. The cast is great and they all work wonders in their roles no matter how big or small their parts may be. This movie makes for a good choice as a date-night movie as both halves of the couple will be able to find something they enjoy in it. I was thoroughly entertained through out the movie and it struck a few cords in me as well. This is my ten year high school reunion so I was able to connect with these characters a little more closely.  If I could go to my ten year reunion and get my Kate Mara that would be awesome, but sadly reality isn’t like a movie and Facebook makes going to high school reunions a moot point. Just skip your high school reunions and go see 10 Years instead, it’ll be far more entertaining and less expensive. Trust me.

After the strength of The Avengers, a Justice League movie is definitely happening. Or is it?

Geekscape’s own Uncanny Shawn Madden argues that a Justice League movie won’t work now, but let me offer a few points in the film’s favor:

1-No Need For Origin Stories

In 2008, my non-geek friends couldn’t have picked Iron Man out of a lineup. The insignia of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, on the other hand, are known all over the world. Even my immigrant grandparents know DC’s Trinity (though to be fair, all immigrants know Superman, the ultimate refugee).

Marvel needed 4 set-up movies, DC doesn’t. Everyone knows Batman and Superman’s origin stories (or orphan stories). For better or worse, the American public still has the idea of a Green Lantern ring fresh in their minds.

2-Years of Groundwork

Warner Brothers has already been running the best Justice League ad campaign for over 20 years: cartoons.

In 1992, Bruce Timm gave us Batman: The Animated Series and a nonstop series of quality TV shows and features since, including this year’s epic Justice League: DOOM. Even before that, we had Super Friends. In fact, DC superheroes have been on celluloid for over 70 years.

Kids today know who the Justice League is- and so do the kids of yesterday.

3-Smart Audiences

People are familiar with the concept of different actors playing the same part. No one freaked out when they replaced Aunt Viv on Fresh Prince or even Darrin on Bewitched. There have been 6 official James Bonds!

The audience is OK with new actors, as long as they’re the right actors. So who are the right actors for a Justice League movie? Here are some options:

The Big Three

ARMIE HAMMER as SUPERMAN

He has the build, the eyes, the commanding presence. And that fantastic booming voice! Hammer has already played a dual role as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, preparing him for playing Clark Kent. But who wants to see Supes act mild-mannered in a League flick anyway?

SAM WORTHINGTON as BATMAN

We already know Worthington can handle action- he’s been a terminator and a demi-god. But the actor can also handle intense emotion. Check out the measured fury he brought to his performance as a frustrated cop in last year’s indie Texas Killing Fields.

AISHA TYLER as WONDER WOMAN

Few actresses have the beauty, the body, and the talent to be remotely credible as the world’s premiere superheroine. Peruse Tyler’s body of work and you’ll see such varied performances as a sarcastic spy on Archer and a mutilated Somalian model in Nip/Tuck. Peruse her body and you’ll see an athletic 6-foot beauty who would have no trouble playing the Amazon warrior.

For some other Wonder Women, check out this classic Geekscape article.

The League

MICHAEL ROSENBAUM as THE FLASH

Not only does Rosenbaum look the part- he’s already played The Flash on 56 episodes of the Justice League cartoon series, where he stressed Wally West’s humor and perseverance.

ROGER R. CROSS as JOHN STEWART

Cross has already shown he can be a team player as able field team leader Curtis on 24. He has just the right gravity and self-control to play the ex-Marine wielder of the Green Lantern’s light.

KATE MARA as HAWKGIRL

Mara is a hardworking actress with a great range who would look amazing in the costume. And what other actress can you name with mace experience under their belt, as Mara got in last year’s Ironclad?

KEEGAN MICHAEL KEY as MARTIAN MANHUNTER

When most people think of Martian Manhunter, they hear the bass timbre of Carl Lumbly’s voice. But Key, who shows his chameleonic abilities on his own sketch show Key and Peele, with his tall, wiry frame, would be a good fit for both J’onzz’s human and original martian forms and was born to perform the motion capture necessary to portray the shapeshifting alien.

The Alternates:

NORA ZEHETNER as ZATANNA

Zehetner is a dead ringer for the pixie prestidigitarian, and you can see her dangerous side as a femme fatale in the 2005 high school neo-noir thriller Brick.

MICHAEL CUDLITZ as GUY GARDNER

It’s a short leap from gruff cop to gruff space cop for a veteran actor like Cudlitz, who is used to dealing with those that worship evil’s might day-in and day-out on TNT’s Southland.

MANDY MOORE as BLACK CANARY

We know Moore has the pipes and the proper hair color (Canary is really a brunette too). She also has the nerd cred, recently portraying Lois Lane in the “Death and Return of Superman” Internet short.

The Villains:

HUGH LAURIE as BRAINIAC

It’s only been a few weeks, and I already miss Laurie’s brilliant but misanthropic performance as House, M.D. Imagine how deliciously evil he could be as the malevolent android.

ROBERT JOHN BURKE as METALLO

Burke has already been part machine in Robocop 3, but for a truly interesting villain, check out his nihilistic turn as an immortal monster in No Such Thing.

JASON MOMOA as VANDAL SAVAGE

Speaking of immortal, Savage’s strength and intellect make him a formidable foe for the entire League. Momoa was a barbarian twice last year, but he brought extra depth to his role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones.

RON PERLMAN as SOLOMON GRUNDY

Who else could play the empowered zombie? Perlman could bring pathos and power to a mostly silent role, just as he did in 1981’s Quest for Fire. As a bonus, who doesn’t want to see Hellboy punch Superman?

JOSH PENCE as BIZARRO

OK, Superman’s warped mirror image might be a hard sell to general audiences, but if they do go with Bizarro, here’s the perfect casting. Pence has already played Armie Hammer’s evil twin as the body double for Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network.
