It’s the Holiday Season and the end of the year! And that marks another Anniversary for Geekscape, which started podcasting 9 years ago on Christmas Day! Yup… We’ve got the same birthday as Baby Jesus! This year, Kenny, Will, Jake and I go into a major Non-Spoiler discussion of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and put the movie in perspective with The Prequels and Original Trilogy! We also share stories of Christmases past and what gifts we wanted! Also… what do we want this year? And has Jake already bought almost everything on his list for himself off of QVC? It’s a Christmas Miracle if he hasn’t!

Will we be getting a Tito spin-off film? We work hard to uncover and discuss all of the details so if you’re looking for an in-depth discussion on ‘The Force Awakens’ look no further!

It’s Christmas time! Well, not quite. But it sure feels that way knowing that a new Star Wars movie is only a few days away! To help get us prepped, comic book writer and artist and all around storyteller Yehudi Mercado arrives on the show! Beyond our excitement for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, we also talk about the new trailers for ‘Star Trek Beyond’, ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ and ‘TMNT: Out of the Shadows’! Also what is Disney Playmation and is ‘Krampus’ an instant Christmas classic?

We hope your god pukes guns and your beef jerky mankini is all shined up, because it’s time to discuss the absolute insanity of ZARDOZ! The guys have mixed feelings about Sean Connery’s boner powers and the questionable decisions made by everyone involved in this production, and need to work through a couple things. What better way to spend the weekend with your bandmates/b-fries than ruining a condo and being pursued by a guy with the most wildly impractical murder weapon imaginable? This week, the guys break open the junk food and cheap champagne to discuss 1987’s tongue-in-cheek slasher Slumber Party Massacre II! It’s a toe-tapper, just make sure you’re wearing shoes, because that carpet is just filthy… It’s Horror Movie Night!

Let’s travel back to the gilded age of big hair, clock radio bombs and world-class pillow talk… no, not the 1980s, just the time we talked about 1980s killer pet flick ALLIGATOR! We’ve referenced this discussion enough that it finally warrants its own retroactive episode. Matt’s love of this movie (and fear of dressing up as a pirate to pool parties) is infectious and his lines are smooth. Give it up on your childhood bed for this retroactive episode of Horror Movie Night!

Rus Gutin is an actor, writer, stand up comedian and all around Man About Town… and now he’s a father twice over! I first met Rus years ago while doing stand up and he’s back to play a little game of catch up with all of us, while celebrating the release of his first stand up DVD ‘Legal Guardian’ (and maybe the birth of his daughter too). While he’s here, Will and I catch him up on all the incredible things that went on at Comikaze and I profess my love for ‘Ash VS Evil Dead’! ‘Supergirl’ looks like she’s going to fly high and all of us share our favorite videogames based on a TV or Movie property! Derek Kraneveldt is the Managing Editor of the Geekscape website and one of the cohosts of the Geekscape Games podcast! But he’s also a resident of Vancouver, where I’ve been staying for the past 3 weeks! On this episode, Derek and I talk about Guillermo Del Toro’s “gothic romance” ‘Crimson Peak’, ‘Sicario’ and ‘The Martian’ and if they’re some of the year’s best! We also talk about how awesome the new season of The Flash has been, why Derek should turn away from his Amiibo addiction now and the major differences in the frameworks of the Marvel and DC universes! Yup! It’s Geekscape!

Briefly: The coolest thing to come out of New York Comic-Con? Maybe, though it was also cool to hear that next month’s Jessica Jones is awesome.

The very first teaser for the yet-undated (well, 2016) second season of Marvel / Netflix’s Daredevil was shown off at the convention, and the 30 fantastic I-should-probably-rewatch-Daredevil seconds are now online to make you wish it was next year already.

The teaser shows Matt, Foggy, Karen, and Claire all looking fairly somber (probably about all the shit that happened at the end of Daredevil’s incredible first season), and also gives us our first beyond-brief look at Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and Elodie Yung’s Elektra.

We cannot wait to see more footage. Take a look at this teaser below, and let us know what you hope to see in the next season!

Grab the sunscreen and a couple barrels of Roundup, we’re heading to The Ruins! While none of the guys can find anything nice to say about the characters, they do make you feel good about watching plants eat people. Hope you have the tequila ready, it’s Horror Movie Night!

Well, I do dee-clay-uh! This week we are discussing the Bette Davis/Joan Crawford cult classic Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Adam and Scott are surprisingly receptive to Matt’s choice of black and white suspense movies, so neither were tied up and incapacitated in their bedrooms after the podcast. Everyone’s pet birds made it out alive too, so we’re going to consider this episode of Horror Movie Night a success!

Hopefully you’ve bathed recently, because this film is going to make you feel dirty. I love this episode! Filmmakers Corey Landis and Roger Lay Jr. grew up, like many of us, with the iconic 80s cartoon and action figure ‘He-Man’! This was our childhood! But then, not only did we grow up… but He-Man kind of disappeared from the cultural consciousness, replaced by Transformers, GI Joe and Ninja Turtles! What was the story behind He-Man anyways? He seemed to be the first of all of these cartoon/toy powerhouses. Well, Roger and Corey’s documentary ‘The Toy Masters’ explores all of those questions and more! It’s a great film and we have both of them on the show this week to talk about all things Masters of the Universe! Enjoy!

Longtime Geekscape listener and writer Karson Braaten is in town from Saskatchewan and he’s brought his fellow Canadian friend Matt Peters along with him! Crazy, after almost 10 years of correspondence, Karson and I finally meet in person… so of course we do it on a Geekscape episode! We get down to business quick by talking about the controversy of ‘Straight Outta Compton’ skipping over the not so nice parts of NWA’s history and wincing at the onslaught of releases that Nintendo has coming our way… including Mega Yarn Yoshi! And as Nintendo changes its view of Hollywood using their characters, we ask what you’d love to see made! Plus! ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ premiered huge and Luke Cage may have found his match! Mockingbird might be getting her own ‘SHIELD’ spin-off and ‘Gambit’ might have a leading lady! Oh yeah, and ‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp’ is exactly what fans wanted and more!

This week’s episode was recorded LIVE on the campus of Yale University at Explo 2015! Just what IS Explo? Well, you’re going to listen to get the full answer to that one, but you know how they say “you can’t go home again?” Well, I kind of did, returning to my old teenage summer camp as a Scholar in Residence to talk to the campers about film, writing and video games… so basically a weeklong Geekscape episode! I recruit Camp Instructor Richard into talking to me about the stages of growing up and chasing your geek passions professionally! And then I get the campers involved! Maddy tells us about navigating being a geek in high school and what Japanese games she would love to see imported State-side! Max shares his love of the new ‘Deadpool’ trailer while convincing us his dad ISN’T a super villain and Fisher talks to us about his newfound love of cosplay! Oh, and I also tell you guys to go watch ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’! It’s a big, heartfelt episode so pack your bags and come back to camp with me!

This episode of Horror Movie Night transports us back to the fantastic world of 2002, when Matthew McConaughey’s career was on fire, Bill Paxton was making housewives quiver, and the abundance of boy bands was a sign of the end-times. Our guest Rich barely gets a word in edgewise and adds us to his God’s Hand Killer list of naughty children; we discuss where we would like those magic hands to be placed.
