With the recent announcement of the sequel to ‘X-Men: First Class’ having a release date of July 18, 2014 it is highly possible that details to the film may start to drip out and one rumor already has.

Aint It Cool is reporting something that will quite possibly make fans happy

“One of my little birds Weapon X recently dropped me some information that 20th Century Fox had recently registered the title DAYS OF FUTURE PAST with the MPAA Title Registration Bureau. The Bureau exists for studios and productions companies to stake their claims on certain titles that they intend to release and distribute, so that others can stray from using a similar title.”

Fans have been begging for Sentinels since almost around the time of ‘X2: X-Men United’ and we were given that major tease of one in ‘X3’. I was so excited when I heard there was Sentinels in ‘X3’ and as soon as the scene ended all I could say was “…wait. That was it?!”

Now some of you younger fans may not have any idea what I’m talking about here. So, from Wikipedia here a little info about ‘Days Of Future Past’ and just why this could be a very exciting story to take elements from:

“The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. She succeeds in her mission and returns to the future, but despite her success, the future timeline still exists as an alternative timeline rather than as the actual future.”

The story also featured huge involvements from Rachel Summers and Nimrod. And while a direct adaptation is unlikely as hell to happen (especially since Shadowcast was like 16 in ‘X3’…unless they’re going to somehow ignore that)… incorporating elements could happen and I definitely have faith in Vaughn after seeing ‘First Class’. Another interesting element is that months back Rob Lifefeld has tweeted “Also excited to discuss possibilities of Cable in future X-films!!!” Could this film be a way to incorporate Nathan Summers? Only time will tell! Pun intended.

So, even though i’m a die-hard Nike person… I had heard about this awhile back and I have been waiting for some previews to drop and here they are! If you know me and my Wade Wilson fanboy ways… I’m probably going to end up buying those Deadpool ones!

Release dates have yet to be announced.

With an upcoming release date (yet still no trailer?) The Official Dredd Facebook Page has released an updated plot outline for the film:

“The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”

No, you read it right. Wizard World is releasing this. Was this a drunken bet that went bad? Are we that desperate for new comic ideas that we sank to this low? And how many debts did Paul Jenkins (Wolverine: Origins, Batman, Hulk, Spider-Man), Talent Caldwell (Superman, X-Men, G.I. Joe), and Paul Mounts (Avengers, Ultimate X-Men, Wolverine, and Thor) owe to be making this book? Because these aren’t the worst names in the industry and I’m sorry but seeing a book revolving around this guys abs and drunken sex with Snooki isn’t my idea of a great comic. What’s next? Bad Girls Club Monthly? Top Chef: Origins? Secret Sixteen And Pregnant? The first issue is due on shelves in time for Wizard World Chicago Comic Con, August 9-12. And guess who will be there? Mike “The Situation” Sorrento himself!

Great.

Commence facepalming.

Check out this preview for “Astonishing X-Men #51” on sale June 20th.

The issue will see Northstar and Kyle tie the knot (assuming no villains crash the party) and there will be two variant covers available,  the Marko Djurdjevic variant that we showed you last week, along with a special “Create Your Own Wedding” blank variant cover by Phil Noto.

Check out this preview for ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #11 on shelves tomorrow.

Here’s a sneak peak from the next issue of “American Vampire,” which hits shelves tomorrow. Scott Snyder has been killing it (pun intended) on this book since it’s release. Here’s the solicitation info from Vertigo:

“The Nocturnes” concludes here! Calvin Poole is a haunted man with a secret, but it’s nothing compared to the secret he uncovers in a small Southern town. Plus, a major character steps back onto the stage!

Well, earlier this week we speculated just who it was going to be when they said “One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June”.

According to the folks over at Bleeding Cool one of their sources revealed to them at Phoenix Comic Con just who the character is.

Well ladies and gentlemen… I’ll fill you in.

Dramatic pause.

Additional unnecessary line.

Wait for it…

It’s Alan Scott. The original Green Lantern. (Who… oddly enough was number one on Eric Diaz’s list)

For those unfamiliar with Alan Scott…

Alan Scott is the ORIGINAL Green Lantern introduced in July of 1940 in All-American Comics #16.

Scott was a charter member of the Justice Society Of America, beginning in All Star Comics #3 (Winter 1940). He served as the team’s second chairman, in #7, but departed following that issue and returned a few years later. He has been a key member of the group ever since, appearing in all three titles bearing the teams’ name.

After the reboot of the DC universe Alan Scott was first reintroduced in Earth-Two #1. So, I definitely can say alot of people are about to start rushing to pick that book up and retailers may just be bumping up their orders for #2.

Tim and Sax rush into action to try and guess who DC comics is going to out as gay in the next few weeks. Speculations include sgt rock, wildcat, and jerry Lewis, along with the most famous members of the DC Elite. Come with us on a journey of sexual-forensics, laughter, and a lengthy discussion of who counts as “iconic”.

Sax and Tim’s note: Just after we recorded this it was reported that the group “One Million Moms” came out against DC having this or any gay characters and suggested they would boycott the books.  In response the folks at Fandom Planet would like to suggest we all buy whatever issue announces the Gay character in record numbers.

Being gay is nothing to be ashamed of, and we support DC in bringing more homosexual characters into everyday comics. From Renee Montoya to Kate Kane to whomever this turns out to be (Plastic Man?) we support them.

Oh and at the end of this episode we talk for a bit about Batgirl: Spoiled (Sax’s new webseires) check it out here: http://bit.ly/BatgirlTeaser

Here’s a sneak peak from the next issue of “Wolverine and The X-Men,” which hits shelves next week. If you’re not reading this book, you should be. It’s one of, if not the best X-Men book on stands.

“With tensions between the Avengers and X-Men on the rise, Kid Gladiator takes on the Avengers single-handedly! Meanwhile, with the battle for Hope raging on, the students of the Jean Grey School must decide where their allegiances lie.”

Here’s a lettered preview of Millar & Yu’s SUPERCROOKS #3 hitting shelves soon. If you haven’t been reading this book or heard of it yet I highly recommend it. Imagine Oceans Eleven… but with super villains. And well… in the style of Millar.

Well, to begin… if you’re not reading Ultimate Comics X-Men… drag yourself to the store tomorrow and buy all twelve issues. It’s that good. This series is one of those books that when you’re done reading the last page you keep trying to turn it to find more hidden pages and upon giving up you read the issue again trying to catch things you missed. The book has been telling multiple story lines and doing a great job at it so far and leaving you hungry and wanting more each time. I was particularly excited for this issue due to it focusing on one of my all time favorite characters… Alex Summers aka Havok.

It picks up months after the Ultimatum wave where we find Alex Summers checked into a mental institution.

I’m going to try and make this review as spoiler free as I can so here goes…

The art is clean and fantastic. The story flows well with what has been going on in the past issues (like I said… spend your kids lunch money) and even makes it make less sense but in an awesome way. Flashbacks, hallucinations, bears… oh my. Well minus the bears that is.

The secondary focus of the issue is a mysterious character who you wont find out the identity of until the final page. And when you do find out his identity and you also pay close attention to that page and the “… what the hell” aspects of it… you’ll definitely go back to page one and give this book a second read. I’m more bummed that I have to wait another month to read the next issue than I am by the news of GI Joe being pushed back a year.

Maybe I’m being a tad biased due to my love of this series (and trust me… I used to be quite anti-Ultimate)

Score: 8.5/10

Starting next month we will see the first crossover between the 616 universe and the Ultimate Universe. Peter Parker will come face to face with Miles Morales in what looks to be a major storyline. A story that will have an effect on both universes as well as many of the characters within these universes…

Bendis has stated that “Ultimate Aunt May and Ultimate Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy and Nick Fury are all involved in the story as well, so there are lot of extremely emotional moments that are going to happen that are almost surreal, but I think very cathartic. I think issue #4 was when Sara emailed me and said, “Alright, I cried. You got me.”

“Nick Fury had a lot going on with Ultimate Peter, and his connection to Miles, and what the right thing to do here is,” he adds. “Every one of these characters has deep, emotional investment into the Spider-Man mythos, some of them suffering quite a lot, and there may be room here for some catharsis that lets them move forward in a positive way. What is it like for a character like Gwen Stacy to find out there’s another universe out there with another Gwen Stacy?” If you haven’t read or heard by now…this crossover is caused by the fan favorite vix.llain…Mysterio “You will find out all of what’s going on with Mysterio, and how this is connected to the Ultimate Universe, in the very first issue. We give that up right away, because there’s so much else to get to. You will see what Mysterio has done and how he’s done it, and for long-time readers, they’ll be very excited; if you don’t know a damn thing about Mysterio, you’ll know exactly what’s going on.”

I’m pretty excited to read this one myself and if you want to check out the full interview…click the link below.

Now…C2E2 was awhile ago.

But one of the interviews  barely surfaced online yesterday.

In this interveiw Dan Slott went on to say…

“What happens in #700 — everything I’ve written my entire career in comics, nothing has had this big an effect on a character than what happens in “Spider-Man” #700. Other creators will say, “This will break the Internet in half,” and “This will do this” and “This will do that” — this is for real! This is my biggest whack at the comic book piñata. I’m breaking it and all the candy’s coming out. It’s not going back together. Something really seismic is going to happen in “Amazing Spider-Man” #700. So, you’re going to have “AvX” happen and shortly after, “Amazing Spider-Man” #700 and the Marvel Universe that you’re going to see after that — it’s not a reboot. There is no reboot. But the effects of “AvX” and the event that happens in “Spider-Man” #700 are so big that you’ll be looking at quite a different landscape after the seismic change”

And apparently Slott has stated that Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso has been in contact with other creators on other Marvel books to ensure they reflect whatever changes.

So, what is the big change? Who knows. I don’t even want to speculate here and i’m hoping its something awesome (because honestly ASM has been pretty awesome as of recent) But I definitely don’t feel the urge to get into “OMG WHAT IS IT?” because I want to be suprised.

I will say however (because I know someone will say it and make threads about it online) they are not going to kill Peter Parker. They already did that in the Ultimate line and that’d be the stupidest thing possible. I for one am looking forward to see where they go with this even though it is a good while away.

Well, if you’ve been seeing the promos and you’ve been wondering “Wow…who is getting married in Astonishing X-Men?” well…you’re the only one.

Marvel seems to be one upping DC yet again. DC announced this week that one of their characters would be coming out as gay. Well..Marvel has been there and done that (Rictor and Shatterstar for those behind on the times) and they’re going the next step.

In issue #51 we will see Kyle and Northstar tie the knot. Well that is…unless someone comes to ruin the day in the typical comic fashion.

From Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso:

“The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality. We’ve been working on this story for over a year to ensure Northstar and Kyle’s wedding reflects Marvel’s ‘world outside your window’ tradition.”

Deadline reports that Dimension Films announced the release date for the long awaited (if not marginally forgotten) sequel to 2005’s Sin City today. Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is now slated for Oct. 4, 2013 release. Like the first film, it will again be directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, with William Monahan adding a hand to the script (which is also written by the pair).

Production is set to begin later this summer in Austin, Texas, at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios. Sin City alum Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba, who played Marv and Nancy Callahan in the original, are slated to return. Nothing is official yet with regards to the other cast members, but so far they are expected to return. No word on who will replace the late Brittany Murphy as Shellie (if anyone).

The Avengers, the movie that multitudes of Marvel maniacs have been discussing ad nauseum for over three years now is almost upon us. And the movie’s financial success is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point, so a sequel is likely to be green-lit the Monday after it opens.

That realization got us wondering- What classic characters will be recruited into the next Avengers Initiative? And who should play them? A few years ago, we gave our ideal Avengers cast for the first film! Here, Geekscape is at it again as we assemble some of our best ideas on who should suit up for Avengers 2!

ALAN TUDYK as GIANT MAN

First off, let’s assume that writer/director Joss Whedon is brought back for the next chapter due to universal fan approval (that happens, right?). Like most directors, Whedon loves to cast actors that he knows can deliver and Alan Tudyk has been stealing scenes since Firefly. Tudyk can bring the intellect, awkwardness, and, yes, even darkness to the role of inventor/hero Hank Pym.

MAURISSA TANCHAROEN as WASP

Tudyk may be in Whedon’s inner circle, but smart and spunky writer/actress Maurissa Tancharoen is family, having recently married his brother Jed. Tancharoen’s dancing background should help her with the flying wirework as she brings the final founding Avenger to the sky and screen.

CAM GIGANDET as QUICKSILVER

The next two Avengers in comics were reformed mutant terrorists Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Quicksilver’s super speed makes him a formidable fighter, but gives him little patience for others. Gigandet’s turn as a cocky, misanthropic pilot in Pandorum makes him a great choice to play Magneto’s son.

ROONEY MARA as SCARLET WITCH

Mara’s star-making performance in 2011’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo gave her a chance to show off her strength with action, accents, and insanity. She’ll need all three to play Quicksilver’s powerful but off-kilter sister.

AARON STATON as VISION

With Scarlet Witch in the mix, her synthetic sometime husband would be a smart addition. Staton brings a simplicity that comes off as serene rather than vapid as Ken Cosgrove on AMC’s Mad Men, perfect for the passionless Vision. Plus, Staton’s motion-captured detective Cole Phelps from Rockstar Games’s L.A. Noire already showed us that he can pull off the “creepy lifeless android” thing.

COLM FEORE as ULTRON

Hank Pym’s misguided breakthrough in artificial intelligence is one of the Avengers’ most fearsome villains, and Feore’s cold, terrifying performance in Stephen King’s Storm of the Century give him all the evil cred he needs.

ANNA TORV as MS. MARVEL

Some fan-favorite New Avengers might jump the line and join the cast, such as USAF officer-turned-superhero Carol Danvers. Anna Torv already plays a super-powered government worker on Fox’s Fringe and is one of very few humans who could pull off that costume.

MICHAEL JAI WHITE as LUKE CAGE

White has already played a superhero in the terrible live-action Spawn film, but he didn’t get a chance to show off his attitude and fighting skills. If Black Dynamite had bulletproof skin… Wait, maybe this should be its own movie.

MIA KIRSHNER as SPIDER-WOMAN

Kirshner was sexy and dangerous as recurring assassin Mandy on 24, proving she has what it takes to bring SHIELD/HYDRA double agent and super-powered femme fatale Jessica Drew to life.

JOE MANGANIELLO as HERCULES

Few men have the body to emulate a god (or demi-god), but Manganiello’s True Blood nude scenes keep him in the gym pretty perpetually. A recurring role on How I Met Your Mother showed the former Flash Thompson’s comedy chops, which he’d need to pull off the mirthful Prince of Power.

Did we miss? Hit? What other AVENGERS would you like to see in a sequel? Let Geekscape know in the comments below!

Deadline is reporting that Zak Penn, the screenwriter of “The Incredible Hulk” and “X-Men: The Last Stand” will be making his debut in comics with “Hero Worship.” The six issues mini-series will be co-written by screenwriter Scott Murphy and drawn by Michael DiPascale. Avatar Press will release the book beginning in July.

Avatar Press released the following synopsis of the mini-series:

Hero Worship” introduces the ultimate celebrity, an indestructible superhero called Zenith, and the rabid fans that worship him. These legions of adoring admirers follow every disaster, trying to speculate where they can catch a glimpse of their modern messiah – even risking their own lives in the process. But what happens when one fan’s unhealthy obsession leads to the development of powers all his own?

The story sounds interesting enough but let’s just hope that it’s better than Penn’s abominations known as “X-Men: The Last Stand” and “Electra.”

For those that follow X-Men, particularly the latest spinoff ‘The Wolverine‘ which will be directed by James Mangold (Director of the movie, Cop Land), the latest development for the film is that it’s going to be shot at least in part in Sydney, Australia, due to a $12.8 million government payoff from Australia as well as other incentives. What’s even more interesting is that at this time, Sydney is going to be the primary location for shooting the film when the story dictates that Wolverine will be traveling to Japan in the story. This means that every shot of Japan will essentially be done in Australia.

At this time, at least $80 million is going to be spent in Australia, including visual effects, while post production work will be in the US. It’s certainly an interesting development, as you would figure that since the story takes place in Japan, it would be a logical decision to shoot in Japan since the primary story takes place in Japan. However, ultimately, it does depend on the production team in how he chooses to use Sydney’s locations to convince the audience that Wolverine is in Japan. There are a lot of new film stages in and around Sydney, but let’s just hope that we don’t spot a kangaroo or a  koala bear in the background of some of the exterior shots. Then again, that would already make it way better than “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” aka “The Tale of Jimmy Logan: The Man They Call Wolverine” aka “Not What We Considered a Real Wolverine Movie by Any Stretch”.

James Mangold’s “The Wolverine” is expected for a July 2013 release.

If you’d have told me at age 10 that Kevin Eastman would be hanging out in my living room talking to me about co-creating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, my head would have exploded! And you know what? It’s just as fantastic today! Kevin emailed me last week about coming on the show and we get right to business, talking about his upcoming Heritage Auction of original Ninja Turtles items, the new TMNT series from IDW, creating the Turtles, the Michael Bay controversy and his return to making comics! We also talk about his ownership and publication of Heavy Metal magazine, the different interpretations of TMNT over the years and why he really disliked the 2nd Ninja Turtles movie! This is a pretty awesome interview that is definitely going to be a favorite if you’re a Ninja Turtles fan or not! Cowabunga!

Last week, on March 29th, HB 2549 passed the Arizona State legislature, that’s both houses of the state congress, and the bill is now sitting on Governor Jan Brewer’s desk awaiting her decision.

For those of you who remember your Schoolhouse Rock, a bill is only bill until it is signed by the governing body (The President, or in this case, the state’s governor).  We can only hope Governor Brewer elects to veto this bill on the grounds that it is a brazen pile of poopy.  In fact, under HB 2549, we could be prosecuted for saying that.

If you listen carefully, you can hear Thomas Jefferson spinning in his grave as The Great State of Arizona prepares to accept, into law, a bill that would make it a crime to communicate via an electronic medium (like the Geekscape Forums, text message, email, radio, e-book or website) any speech that is intended to (these are actual, quoted words from the bill) “offend,” “harass,” “terrify,” or “annoy.”  In addition, the bill would also outlaw certain sexual speech.  Yes, a law in th 21st Century United States that would outlaw certain speech.  Outlaw…speech.

This means that under this law, if you are in Arizona and you see something that offends you via an electronic medium, the person responsible for that message can be punished for offending you.  This means that if someone calls you a naughty name on a website forum:  BAM!  Criminal Record.  Rush Limbaugh calls someone a “slut” on the radio in Arizona:  BAM!  Prosecution for Limbaugh under Arizona State Law.  Somebody reads a piece of graphic horror fiction by Steve Niles:  BAM!  Niles is hauled into court in Arizona.

This law would seriously restrict dialog and discourse, no matter how rooted in good-natured ribbing it might be, between sports fans of rival teams, between fans of Star Trek versus Star Wars, between Marvel and DC.  Anywhere that there is a rivalry where the conversation, in an electronic medium, gets bawdy or “trash talking,” this bill proposes to make that a criminal zone in Arizona.

This is a violent offense to the US Constitution’s First Amendment.  For those of you as old as us, who don’t remember High School Civics, here’s the Amendment:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

The high points: “No law.. abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…”  It’s the principle on which The US was founded.

Further, in this bill, the terms “offend,” “harass,” “terrify,” and “annoy” are not clearly defined, so anything annoying would be illegal in Arizona.

Free Speech is protected by the Constitution, even if it is offensive or ill conceived.  Everything from The Westboro Baptist Church’s hate-crap to “Juggs Magazine” to the diatribe of fanboys upset over the crappiness of the Green Lantern movie is protected speech.  To make it illegal is, in itself, a crime.

How it made past both houses of congress in the state is astounding.

We at Fandom Planet, along with the good people of Media Matters and The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund,  ask you to protect the First Amendment rights of all the people of Arizona and reject or amend H.B. 2549.

The phone number to the Governor’s office is 800-253-0883.  Email can be sent at this website:  http://www.azgovernor.gov/Contact.asp

If you are in Arizona, exercise your right to petition the government and speak out against bad law while you still can.

What happens when you get Heidi Hilliker, Stephen Prescott, Eric Diaz and Ben Dunn all in the same room to record an episode of Brave Nerd World? Well for one we certainly can’t seem to stay on topic. Also at some point I think we each say at least one thing we’ll regret and that’s what makes this a fantastic episode. Somewhere in there though we do try and get to the bottom of why it seems that geeks are everywhere now and will the geek culture bubble ever pop?

New Line Cinema has had the film rights to Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s beloved comic series Y: The Last Man for over 4 years. But despite a script by Vaughan and reported interest from multiple directors, the project has remained in limbo. I can’t tell you  if the movie will ever get made, but I can tell you who we would like to see in it!

ADAM BRODY as YORICK BROWN

Yorick Brown is an everyman. Literally. As the lone survivor of the complete elimination of Earth’s males, Yorick is every man left on the planet. So who can capture the dorky charm of the verbose slacker magician faced with the saving the world?

How about Adam Brody, who played loveable nerd trying to find his masculine identity on 6 seasons of The OC? The reliable actor proved he can carry an entire movie as the star of 2007’s aptly titled In the Land of Women.

TRACIE THOMS as AGENT 355

The woman known only as 355 becomes the most important woman in the world when she is tasked with shepherding the last man across the country. Tracie Thoms blew us away as sassy stuntwoman and protective pal Kim in Quentin Tarantino’s grindhouse homage Death Proof. She has the hardness and the heart to play Yorick’s enigmatic bodyguard and constant companion.

LUCY LIU as DR. ALISON MANN

Lucy Liu may not actually be of Sino-Japanese heritage like cloning expert Mann, but she has been playing women of the doctor’s intelligence and strength with effortless grace for years. She also played a bit of a lunatic in the indie rom-com Watching the Detectives, which means she has the experience to play Mann’s more obsessive side.

AMY ACKER as HERO BROWN

Yorick’s wayward sister Hero has her own journey to parallel Yorick’s and must be played by someone who can be both wounded and warlike, both hero and villain. Amy Acker has the talent to capture Hero’s dual nature; she has played characters who have gone through instant and extreme transformations in both Angel and Dollhouse.

 SARAH ROEMER as BETH DEVILLE

Would-be fiance Beth doesn’t appear much in Yorick’s story, but she does provide much of his motivation. Fired Up‘s Sarah Roemer has the effusive spirit and classic good looks to make an audience fall in love with her in a short amount of screen time.

BRITTANY SNOW as BETH 2

One of the few friendly faces Yorick meets along the way, the other Beth both shelters and tempts the last man. Showing a large range over a short career in films such as The Pacifier and The Vicious Kind, Brittany Snow has been both as vulnerable and as tough as survivor Beth.

GINA BELLMAN as ALTER TSE’ELON

Israeli commando Alter leads a squad sent to abduct the last man, but is it for her own personal motives? She is a complex and compelling villain. Every role Gina Bellman takes is a challenge, from the lunatic Jane in Coupling to gender-switching Sydney in Zerophilia. The versatile actress isn’t from Israel, but she is good with accents, as evidenced in her portrayal of grifter Sophie on TNT’s Leverage.

CRYSTAL THE MONKEY as AMPERSAND

It may seem an odd choice to cast a female to play one of the only two remaining males on the planet, but capuchin Crystal is definitely up for the challenge. The animal actress is quickly turning into a major star of the big and small screen, with major roles in Night at the Museum and The Hangover 2 and a recurring stint on Community.

As always, that’s just one fan’s opinion. Let Geekscape know what YOU think in the comments!

This episode I sit down with Scott Gimple, producer and writer on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Scott and I met while playing Left 4 Dead a few years ago. Scott and I talk about his career writing shows like Fast Forward with David Goyer and the recent Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance. And of course we talk about The Walking Dead. How does he deal with fan criticism as both a writer and a fan? Also, Scott gives advice to Geekscapists looking to start a TV writing career!

Sony Pictures has closed a deal to acquire the film rights to the Valiant Comics series, Bloodshot, a 1992 comic book series that continues to be one of the revamped publisher’s strongest properties.

The story is about a killer for the mafia who is framed for a murder he didn’t commit, thanks to his mob family betraying him.  When he goes into Witness protection, he is immediately kidnapped and his body goes through the experimental procedure, “Project Rising Spirit.” His body is injected with nanomachinery, also refered to as ‘nanites’, that gives him superhuman abilities at the cost of his memories. He eventually escapes his captors and goes on a journey to rediscover the person he once was.

The script is being written by Jeff Wadlow, whose previous credits include the drama/horror movie, Cry-Wolf, and the screenplay for the horror thriller, Prey. Reportedly, the deal came out of Wadlow’s love for the comic and agreed to write the script on spec, and when Sony saw the script, they bought the rights. The film is also being produced by Neal Moritz, producer of The Green Hornet and the Fast & Furious series.

The idea is to develop the property as something that X-Men First Class director Matthew Vaughn can direct. Hopefully, the movie doesn’t come in a foil edition.

We had “Moriarty” writer Daniel Corey on the Geekscape podcast a few months ago talking about his Image book “Moriarty” and we’ve had he and artist Anthony Diecidue signing at the Geekscape convention booths many times over the past two years so this is some pretty cool news.

I’m excited to see what comes of the comic book (which you should all be reading) and its adaptation to the musical stage! Way to go, guys! Geekscape’s got your back!

Here’s the press release from Image:

Announced at the 2012 Image Comics Expo, Daniel Corey is partnering with composer Raymond Schnurr to create a new stage musical based on the Image Comics series MORIARTY, written by Daniel Corey and illustrated by Anthony Diecidue.

Currently titled MORIARTY, the stage musical will be loosely based on the first story arc of the MORIARTY series, MORIARTY: THE DARK CHAMBER. Corey will be writing the story while Schnurr – who is also currently scoring We Can Get It For You Wholesale for Neil Gaiman – will be composing the music. Corey and Schnurr will collaborate together on the lyrics. Like the comic, MORIARTY the stage musical will be a very gritty and dark piece with a sense of high adventure. The music will be based in hard rock, and the staging style will be a cousin to shows such as Les Misérables, Sweeny Todd and Phantom of the Opera.

“I am very excited to be collaborating with Ray on the upcoming MORIARTY stage musical,” states creator Daniel Corey. “Ray is very in tune with the sort of storytelling style and sensibility that Anthony and I have worked so hard to convey with this series. This show will be epic in scale, and Ray’s music will bring that extra level of dynamite that will be sure to knock the audience into the abyss where the Professor resides. It will be a dark journey, but an exciting and entertaining one.”

Raymond Schnurr adds, “When I read MORIARTY for the first time, I was riveted. I contacted Daniel immediately and said, ‘Let’s turn this into a kick-ass musical!’ I am excited to work with Daniel and create a musical as intelligent and exhilarating as his comic book series!”

MORIARTY: THE DARK CHAMBER, VOL. 1 TP (JUL110470, ISBN: 978-1-60706-450-3), a 128-page full-color paperback for $14.99, is available in all fine books stores and comic book retailers (www.comicshoplocator.com).

MORIARTY: THE LAZARUS TREE, VOL. 2 TP (JAN120526, ISBN: 978-1-60706-490-9), a 136-page full-color paperback, will be on sale in stores March 14th for $14.99 and is available to order in the January 2012 edition of Diamond Previews.
