Daniel Way’s run on Deadpool is coming to an end and following the recent Marvel NOW! teasers announcing the new teams we have one for Deadpool!  The creative team that will usher in a new era for the fan-favorite will be Brian Posehn (yes, you read that one right…the Brian Posehn!), Gerry Duggan and Tony Moore (Fear Agent, The Walking Dead) Holy fucking shit right? While I did like Way’s work I am pretty damn excited for this one!

Have you been reading DC’s Animal Man and Swamp Thing? If you’re not then you should be. Since these books launched as part of “The New 52” they have constantly been two of my favourite comics on my pull list. Jeff Lemire is the writer on Animal Man and along with Scott Snyder, writer on Swamp Thing, they have each been setting the stage for a big crossover story between the two characters titled “Rotworld” and it’s coming very soon.

Jeff Lemire had this to say regarding  the ‘Rotworld’ prelude which begins in Animal Man #12 and Swamp Thing #12, both out today:

“The Rot has won. The End is here.

Rotworld is the biggest story I’ve been a part of since I started writing for DC Comics. If you’ve been reading both Animal Man and Swamp Thing (and if you haven’t you should start right now!) you’ll know that Scott “Swampy” Snyder and I have been building and planning this story for over a year. It’s massive in scope and it will have lasting consequences for both The Baker family and Alec Holland.

This is the DCU, obliterated and consumed by The Rot. It’s a sprawling post-apocalyptic saga with only heroes and villains with some connection to The Red or The Green left to fight. I think readers will be surprised to see not only Animal man and Swamp Thing but dozens of characters from throughout the New 52 universe involved in the story. Some of them already lost to The Rot others will appear in surprising ways.

The whole Rotworld story wouldn’t be possible without the amazing artists we have working with us. Yanick Paquette is killing it on Swamp Thing and I’m lucky enough to be working with one of my favorite artists Steve Pugh, as well as my Animal Man Annual collaborator Timothy Green II, both beautifully colored by Lovern Kindzeirski.

Rotworld is a true labor of love for all of us, we’re working hard to create a really special story and we hope you come along for the journey. But stick close, you never know what might be lurking out there in the Rotlands…”

Today we have another teaser announcing one of the new creative teams that will be working on titles for Marvel NOW! And I had heard rumors that Lenil Yu and Mark Waid would be taking over on a Hulk title starting in November. Well, it appears those rumors have been confirmed by this latest teaser.

The Walking Dead is a five-part episodic game series set in the same universe as Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic books featuring Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes.  Episode one, and the following four episodes deliver an experience tailored by the decisions that each player makes, leading to multiple paths through the story. Players take on the role of Lee Everett, a man convicted of murder, now given newfound freedom and a chance at redemption in a world devastated by the undead.  Intense life or death situations will force the player to explore the darker sides of human nature, and they will meet familiar characters and visit locations from the world created by Robert Kirkman, foreshadowing the story of Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead comics.

‘Episode 1: A New Day’ is available now on the app store for $4.99; Episodes 2-5 will be released periodically and available via in-app purchase. Pre-order the remaining episodes in  The Walking Dead game series by purchasing the Multi-Pack [Episode 2-5 Bundle] for $14.99 via in-app purchase and save 25%!

Game Features:

•Based on Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic book series: The Walking Dead allows gamers to experience the true horror of the zombie apocalypse, with artwork inspired by the original comic books. Live out events, meet people and visit locations from The Walking Dead lore.

•A tailored game experience: Live with the profound and lasting consequences of the decisions you make in each episode. Your actions and choices will affect how your story plays out across the entire series.

•Act fast: You’ll be forced to make decisions that are not only difficult, but require you to make an almost immediate choice. There’s no time to ponder when the undead are pounding down the door.

•Adventure horror spanning across five episodes: Gameplay involves meaningful decision-making, exploration, problem-solving and a constant fight for survival in a world overrun by the undead.

We told you what Bat-stories inspired Christopher Nolan’s films. Did you read those? Do you still have an itch for more? Well have no fears! Well, except for the Batman. Fear him. But  anyway…I am here to give you the best Bat-stories you should read that you probably haven’t yet.

– Justice League Of America: Tower Of Babel by Mark Waid and Howard Porter

So, if there are any two stories that pretty much solidify that Batman can kick anyone’s ass it’s Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, where Batman outwits and outduels Superman (yes…Batman HAS kicked Superman’s ass numerous times now), and Mark Waid’s Tower Of Babel. Batman has a plan for everything. Batman states that his plans were a cautionary measure that he devised after the Injustice League swapped bodies with the Justice League with the aid of the alien tyrant Agamemno years earlier . Recognizing the dangers of villains gaining control of the heroes, he creates fail-safes in case such a situation ever happens again. The event also inspires him to create plans to stop the other heroes if they should go rogue on their own. But when an enemy unlocks those secret plans and uses them. Well we get to see Batman’s obsessive planning come to fruition and some not so happy JLA members after it. Definite must read. This arc is the basis for the animated Justice League: Doom.

Batman: The Cult by Jim Starlin and Bernie Wrightson

Most of you think that no one can break the Batman (well, minus Bane…but this is before Knightfall) Well, you would be wrong. In The Cult, Batman is kidnapped, drugged, and broken down by Deacon Blackfire to a point we have never really seen him hit before.  While most of Batman’s great stories rely on his rogues gallery that is not the case here.
Starlin and Wrightson build a captivating story that truly shows Batman at his most desperate. There are also some wicked hallucinations in this story that make you wonder who is the most messed up person to write a Batman story.

Batman: The Black Mirror by Scott Snyder and Jock

This is probably Snyder’s best work pre-New 52 right here. The concept of the story is that Gotham City is its own character that reflects its seedy nature upon those who try and protect it. The story focuses on two main protagonists, Dick Grayson aka the newly appointed Batman (don’t worry…no spoiler alert needed for that) and Commissioner Gordon. Gotham puts both of the city’s protectors to the test in this one. Dick discovers what it truly means to be Batman in Gotham as he sees a darker side of the city that he has never really seen before. And on the other side Gordon’s estranged son James Gordon Jr. makes his return to Gotham, bringing a dark past with him. I won’t go into any more detail here because I actually want you to read the story. You know you want to.

Batman: Under The Hood Volume One And Two by Judd Winnick and Doug Mahnke

In 1988, writer Jim Starlin wrote a Batman story titled A Death In The Family that featured Jason Todd, the second Robin, being beat to death by The Joker with a crowbar. Intense right? Well, keep in mind the fans voted for him to die. The story of Jason Todd remained untouched for about  15 years, until the character re-appeared in the Hush storyline. Even though it was revealed that it was Clayface posing as Jason questions still arouse about just where Jason Todd was, because it was not in his grave. Black Mask has seized control of Gotham City’s criminal underworld, but his rule is challenged by the mysterious Red Hood, who has hijacked a crate full of 100 pounds of Kryptonite. You read that one right, Kryptonite. But the rest is meant to be read. This story sees the resurrection of a character that no one cared about to the point they wanted dead into one of DC’s coolest current characters. Read Red Hood And The Outlaws and disagree with me. I dare you. This story also inspired the animated Batman: Under The Red Hood which is arguably one of DC’s best animated films.

Batman: Earth One by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank

This right here is my favorite. Much like Christopher Nolan did with his movies we get a modern re-telling and updated version of Bruce’s origin story with a few minor tweaks. Earth One doesn’t stick completely with the original stories of Bruce Wayne’s metamorphosis into Batman, but that’s a good thing. We get a fresh new take on it that makes a story we all know feel like something we have never read before. One of the most interesting parts of this story is that as he tries to fill out his role as Batman, Bruce Wayne fails more times than he succeeds, but succeeds where it counts. This makes him feel more human and relatable just like the Nolan movies. So if you’re one of those who are open minded to seeing different takes on characters this one is totally for you. If you’re not well, you may not want to pick this up.

Runners up:

Batman/Grendel by Matt Wagner

Batman: Son Of The Demon by Mike W. Barr and Jerry Bingham

Did you pick up an issue of Captain Marvelyesterday? Well you just may want to head back to the shop and get one. The first issue that is being praised which sets up Carol Danvers as a major player in the Marvel Universe has already sold out. The artwork alone is fantastic.

Marvel’s official press release:

It’s official, fans can’t get enough Captain Marvel – so much so that both Captain Marvel #1 AND Avenging Spider-Man #9 have sold out! This August, get your second chance to experience Carol Danvers’ marvelous new adventures in Captain Marvel #1 Second Printing Variant, where Carol begins her life as the new Captain Marvel! But that’s not all, as she embarks on a high-flying team-up with none other than your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in Avenging Spider-Man #9 Second Printing Variant

While I haven’t read the issue myself I now fully plan to. So what do other critics have to say about the first issue of the title?

“Brilliant.” – Benjamin Bailey, IGN.com

“Fantastic.” – Ali Colluccio, iFanboy

“Energetic.” – George Marston, Newsarama

Don’t miss your chance! Get this issue now!

So, could we be getting a new Ant-Man series soon? The latest Marvel NOW! teaser features Ant-Man but doesn’t really tell us which one. With Hank Pym currently Giant-Man, and Eric O’Grady being murdered in Secret Avengers and being brought back as the Black Ant, it seems quite likely that it will be Scott Lang. Lang recently returned from the dead in the pages of The Children’s Crusade and has not been seen since. It also would be most likely off the three due to there are reports that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s script for Ant-Man features Scott Lang.

Issue number 100 of The Walking Dead had a print run of 380,000 copies and it’s already sold out. Having already broken one record becoming the best-selling comic book in initial orders for any publisher since 1997…could it be on the path to breaking even more records?

I spoke with a local shop owner who also owned one of the busiest booths at this years San Diego Comic-Con and he went on to state that the book was flying out of his hands at record numbers on the first two days alone and he was even selling the limited variant covers at a couple hundred dollars a pop.

I even decided to check out eBay and variants such as the one above are even cranking out averaging about $400 a piece. With such a high demand we could see this book going into multiple printings much faster than usual. With this many copies sold in just one week since its release this issue could very well be on the path to breaking even more records and setting a very high bar.

Marvel NOW! is coming and Marvel has released a teaser image showing Nick Fury Jr. and him keeping tabs on fan-favorite Cable. This appears to be the cover to the upcoming ‘Point One’ issue that will introduce us to Marvel NOW! What this could mean is unknown to anyone at the current but expect more characters to fill those blank spots soon.

While I personally like Daniel Way’s run on Deadpool there are plenty of people that just seem to not dig it. During Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel it was announced that Way would be leaving the title.

Next came a “Deadpool” slide, and Daniel Way announced he would be leaving the series. “It’s been the most fun I’ve ever had working on a series,” Way said, “and I’ve been able to write every kind of story with this character.”

“I’ve got this other thing on the horizon,” Way said, though he could not say more at present.

Being that Wade Wilson is one of my favorite characters I really hope they do find someone    that does the character justice.

In October we will see the start of the Marvel NOW! event in which Marvel will be launching a number of new titles. It appears in order to make room for the new titles a total of nine are set to be cancelled. This October, the following titles will be coming to an end.

-Captain America #19
-Fantastic Four #611
-FF #23
-Incredible Hulk #15
-Invincible Iron Man #527
-New Mutants #50
-The Mighty Thor #22
-Uncanny X-Men #20
-X-Men Legacy #275

This could mean we may see these books being relaunched with new titles and creative teams (there’s a rumor that John Romita Jr is taking over on Cap) at issue number one between October and February. I know for a fact there will be Iron Man, Thor and Captain America titles (either re-launced or re-named) but the rest are up in the air as far as I know. Full details will be revealed at Marvel’s Comic-Con panel this week.

In October we will return to a world ravaged by a plague that had turned most of Earth’s heroes into raving cannibalistic monsters. Jonathan Maberry is back to continue on from events that unfolded in ‘Marvel Universe vs Punisher’ and ‘Marvel Universe vs Wolverine’ in a four issue mini-series ‘Marvel Universe vs The Avengers

“The story is intensely personal, as all stories of great cultural trauma,” Maberry says. “These are horror stories, and ‘Marvel Universe vs The Avengers’ takes the horror down to a very personal level. We are no longer witnessing the world’s hurt or the cultural hurt, we’re inside the head – and heart — of a man who is experiencing the most personal kind of hurt.” The man he is referring to here is Clint Barton aka Hawkeye.

“The story is told from Hawkeye’s perspective, but most of the big guns are there: Thor, Hulk — red and green versions — Iron Man, Giant Man, Luke Cage, Black Widow, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, and others,” reveals the writer. “We also check in on the kids at Avengers Academy. The events in these four issues cut a bloody swath across the entire Avengers landscape.”

“The world is becoming a horror show and no one has the power to stop it,” Maberry explains. “Then we look down at the street-level, at a man like Hawkeye who has no super powers and who isn’t really the go-to guy for a world-threatening crisis and for reasons we’ll explore in the story, he doesn’t succumb to the plague as quickly. More and more of the responsibility for this fight falls to him, and he’s extremely mortal.”

“View that same thing from another perspective and you see someone who has never been as powerful as his teammates, and yet he’s always held the line, always done his part. So, maybe he’s the kind of hero we need in a world where super powers are no longer the answer.”

“The world itself is broken, and the storytelling reflects that,” Maberry offers. “There is no longer an orderly pace to history, and if humanity survives, the history that’s taught will come from fragments of memory and experiences.

“I wanted to get inside the phenomenon of becoming ‘powerless.’ Many of the heroes lose their heroic status by becoming monsters; we have characters struggling to continue to be heroes while knowing that they are transforming into the enemy. The government and even groups like S.H.I.E.L.D. can’t stop this. The greatest brains on the planet—Reed Richards, Hank Pym, T’Challa—can’t solve this problem. We see how different characters cope with their friends/team-mates and loved ones becoming monsters.”

But in the end it’s all coming down to one man. The man with the arrows.

“That is a special kind of horror, and it’s a special kind of heroic tale,” Maberry promises. “I think people are going to bond pretty heavily with Hawkeye in this tale.”

Bleeding Cool is reporting that there is some abnormal activity at three comics shops in London. Three comic shops in London that are surrounded by major movie studio offices and production companies who work on special effects. That abnormal activity that I spoke about? Well… these shops have been receiving numerous people coming in looking for Ant-Man comics. Lots of Ant-Man comics in any condition.

“Here’s the thing. No one asks for Ant Man comics. Not even, I’m told, when Marvel was still publishing Ant Man comics. Each time the individuals have been asked if it’s for the Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish film and they jump back, spooked, asking how they could possibly know…”

One individual even had a specific request, wanting reference for Ant-Man’s “echo time locator” from “the old series”.

Could this mean that Marvel has convinced Edgar Wright to begin work on ‘Ant-Man’ as soon as he finishes ‘Worlds End’? I even checked Wikipedia out of curiosity and it has ‘Ant-Man’ set at a 2013 release above ‘Worlds End’. Maybe we’re about to get a big announcement in two weeks on seeing Hank Pym, Scott Lang or Eric O’Grady hitting the big screen? Before anyone throws out a fan-cast I am just going on the record and stating my personal choice is…Patrick Wilson. Just sayin’.

With the events of this book taking place in the film adaptation of ‘Kick-Ass 2’ we have your first look at ‘Hit-Girl #1’. Click the thumbs below for a larger look.

Hit-Girl spins off into her own blood-soaked series by the sales-busting creative team of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. This story takes place between Kick-Ass volumes 1 and 2 as Mindy McCready tries to settle into life as a regular school-girl, but wants nothing more to be dispensing hot justice to the scum of New York City. Her mother and step-father think she’s doing her homework, but in reality she’s taken Kick-Ass on as her sidekick and training him up to punch, shoot and stab… just like Daddy would have wanted. A limited edition variant by Leandro Fernandez will be released for this issue.

Did Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli deliver in this first crossover between the 616 Marvel U and the Ultimate universe? Yes. Yes they did.

I’m going to do my best to keep this one spoiler free here because I want you to buy and read this issue. I’m loving ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ right now. I’m loving ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ right now. So when I heard they were doing this…I was in. The first book I grabbed on my stack today was this issue and I sadly had to make it through my entire work shift until I could read it.

I mean right from the start the book is beautiful. Pichelli is in top form here and her pencils mixed with Justin Ponsors colors make the images just leap off the page.

And not only is the art top notch. Bendis from the get go gets right into it with the Peter Parker we all love. You can’t help but have a smirk on your face during this book. And if this issue is any indication of the rest of the series…i’m not going to like this mini-series. I’m going to love this mini-series.

Now we’ve come to the point where I have to bite my tongue. We all basically know WHAT happens. I’m just not going to say HOW it happens. But WHEN it happens…it’s great. We know what’s going on the second half of this issue while Peter doesn’t and Bendis did a real good job of showing a confused and lost Parker.

I’m going to keep this review short and end it here. It’s a great start and while it’s not action packed it really does fantastic job establishing the base of the story.

I’m not going to score this book but instead give it my personal pick of the week. It should be on the top of any Spider-fans stack.

For months we’ve been hearing about all the changes in creative teams post-AvX. The main one that Bendis would be leaving all ‘Avengers’ titles.

Well, Bleeding Cool is posting some interesting rumors floating around the ol’ water cooler.

-Rick Remender and Jeremy Opena on an Avengers book? New Avengers maybe?

-Mark Waid takes over Avengers Assemble?

-Jonathan Hickman and Essad Ribic on either Uncanny X-Men or the Avengers books that’s not the one Remender and Opena are on?

– Kieron Gillen and Greg Land on Iron Man.

– Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca are sticking together… wherever they end up.

– Only the very best artists for a Brian Bendis cosmic relaunch…(Guardians Of The Galaxy…duh)

It also appears that Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca may just be taking over Fantastic Four and Hickman and Esad Ribic will replace Bendis on Avengers post-AvX.

Here’s a preview of American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #1 by Scott Snyder with art by Dustin Nguyen. Issue #1 hits shelves this Wednesday, June 13:

Here’s Vertigo’s solicition for the miniseries: Hot on the heels of last year’s award-winning AMERICAN VAMPIRE miniseries, SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, we return to postwar Europe and the vampire-hunting agency known as The Vassals of the Morning Star! Agent Felicia Book has had a dark life, filled with tragedy, but she has finally found peace, raising her adoptive son, Gus. But when the Vassals return for help tracking the most powerful vampire of all time, she soon learns nothing can prepare her for the threat inside The Coffin…

After the strength of The Avengers, a Justice League movie is definitely happening. Or is it?

Geekscape’s own Uncanny Shawn Madden argues that a Justice League movie won’t work now, but let me offer a few points in the film’s favor:

1-No Need For Origin Stories

In 2008, my non-geek friends couldn’t have picked Iron Man out of a lineup. The insignia of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, on the other hand, are known all over the world. Even my immigrant grandparents know DC’s Trinity (though to be fair, all immigrants know Superman, the ultimate refugee).

Marvel needed 4 set-up movies, DC doesn’t. Everyone knows Batman and Superman’s origin stories (or orphan stories). For better or worse, the American public still has the idea of a Green Lantern ring fresh in their minds.

2-Years of Groundwork

Warner Brothers has already been running the best Justice League ad campaign for over 20 years: cartoons.

In 1992, Bruce Timm gave us Batman: The Animated Series and a nonstop series of quality TV shows and features since, including this year’s epic Justice League: DOOM. Even before that, we had Super Friends. In fact, DC superheroes have been on celluloid for over 70 years.

Kids today know who the Justice League is- and so do the kids of yesterday.

3-Smart Audiences

People are familiar with the concept of different actors playing the same part. No one freaked out when they replaced Aunt Viv on Fresh Prince or even Darrin on Bewitched. There have been 6 official James Bonds!

The audience is OK with new actors, as long as they’re the right actors. So who are the right actors for a Justice League movie? Here are some options:

The Big Three

ARMIE HAMMER as SUPERMAN

He has the build, the eyes, the commanding presence. And that fantastic booming voice! Hammer has already played a dual role as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, preparing him for playing Clark Kent. But who wants to see Supes act mild-mannered in a League flick anyway?

SAM WORTHINGTON as BATMAN

We already know Worthington can handle action- he’s been a terminator and a demi-god. But the actor can also handle intense emotion. Check out the measured fury he brought to his performance as a frustrated cop in last year’s indie Texas Killing Fields.

AISHA TYLER as WONDER WOMAN

Few actresses have the beauty, the body, and the talent to be remotely credible as the world’s premiere superheroine. Peruse Tyler’s body of work and you’ll see such varied performances as a sarcastic spy on Archer and a mutilated Somalian model in Nip/Tuck. Peruse her body and you’ll see an athletic 6-foot beauty who would have no trouble playing the Amazon warrior.

For some other Wonder Women, check out this classic Geekscape article.

The League

MICHAEL ROSENBAUM as THE FLASH

Not only does Rosenbaum look the part- he’s already played The Flash on 56 episodes of the Justice League cartoon series, where he stressed Wally West’s humor and perseverance.

ROGER R. CROSS as JOHN STEWART

Cross has already shown he can be a team player as able field team leader Curtis on 24. He has just the right gravity and self-control to play the ex-Marine wielder of the Green Lantern’s light.

KATE MARA as HAWKGIRL

Mara is a hardworking actress with a great range who would look amazing in the costume. And what other actress can you name with mace experience under their belt, as Mara got in last year’s Ironclad?

KEEGAN MICHAEL KEY as MARTIAN MANHUNTER

When most people think of Martian Manhunter, they hear the bass timbre of Carl Lumbly’s voice. But Key, who shows his chameleonic abilities on his own sketch show Key and Peele, with his tall, wiry frame, would be a good fit for both J’onzz’s human and original martian forms and was born to perform the motion capture necessary to portray the shapeshifting alien.

The Alternates:

NORA ZEHETNER as ZATANNA

Zehetner is a dead ringer for the pixie prestidigitarian, and you can see her dangerous side as a femme fatale in the 2005 high school neo-noir thriller Brick.

MICHAEL CUDLITZ as GUY GARDNER

It’s a short leap from gruff cop to gruff space cop for a veteran actor like Cudlitz, who is used to dealing with those that worship evil’s might day-in and day-out on TNT’s Southland.

MANDY MOORE as BLACK CANARY

We know Moore has the pipes and the proper hair color (Canary is really a brunette too). She also has the nerd cred, recently portraying Lois Lane in the “Death and Return of Superman” Internet short.

The Villains:

HUGH LAURIE as BRAINIAC

It’s only been a few weeks, and I already miss Laurie’s brilliant but misanthropic performance as House, M.D. Imagine how deliciously evil he could be as the malevolent android.

ROBERT JOHN BURKE as METALLO

Burke has already been part machine in Robocop 3, but for a truly interesting villain, check out his nihilistic turn as an immortal monster in No Such Thing.

JASON MOMOA as VANDAL SAVAGE

Speaking of immortal, Savage’s strength and intellect make him a formidable foe for the entire League. Momoa was a barbarian twice last year, but he brought extra depth to his role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones.

RON PERLMAN as SOLOMON GRUNDY

Who else could play the empowered zombie? Perlman could bring pathos and power to a mostly silent role, just as he did in 1981’s Quest for Fire. As a bonus, who doesn’t want to see Hellboy punch Superman?

JOSH PENCE as BIZARRO

OK, Superman’s warped mirror image might be a hard sell to general audiences, but if they do go with Bizarro, here’s the perfect casting. Pence has already played Armie Hammer’s evil twin as the body double for Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network.

Hitting shelves this Wednesday check out this first look at ‘Scarlet Spider #6’ from the creative team of Christopher Yost & Ryan Stegman.

Valiant comics is back and with them they brought the return of one of my favorite titles from the 90’s ‘Harbinger’. To say I was excited about this would be an understatement.

Read minds. Bend steel. Break all the rules. Teenager Pete Stanchek is out of work, on the skids, and – unbeknownst to him – a psionic-powered “harbinger” with the potential to reshape the course of human history. Toyo Harada is a wealthy business magnate, a respected philanthropist and the most powerful harbinger of all – or so he thought. As they forge an uneasy alliance, will Harada offer Pete a chance for redemption – or attempt to induct him into a secret network of conspiracy, subversion and control? Pete is about to discover that he’s not alone in the world and, soon, the generation who has nothing will take on the man who has everything.

If you know nothing about the return of Valiant comics… i’ll fill you in just a little. Valiant was one of the major comic companies of the 90’s and early 2000’s but disappeared and returned this year with a couple of titles. These titles are reboots and to be honest this is the only one I picked up or cared about.

I’m not going to go into plot details on this issue. I’m not going to spoil anything. I’m just going to tell you why you should be on your way to shop to pick this issue up after you’re done reading here.

I felt like a ten year old kid again reading this issue. The familiar faces I knew were back (well, not all being that it is the first issue) with an updated feel to them. And before anyone says it…yes I do realize that Peter is wearing an outfit similar to Cole MacGrath from the ‘Infamous’ games. Why? I have no idea. But that’s not important here.

Joshua Dysart’s writing here is great. It is no slow start and we get right into the story from the beginning with bits of back story being slowly introduced throughout the issue. Artist Khari Evans also does a great job of capturing the story that Dysart is telling. The only issue some people may have is if they read it too fast they may think they are missing something but trust me… if it is anything like the 90’s storyline… all will make sense soon enough. It’s a story that will slowly build from the past and the present into something great.

And i’m definitely not one of the “must buy every variant ever” people but the multiple covers for this issue had me walking back and forth decided between which ones I wanted. I was especially happy seeing this variant that was definitely a throwback to the original issue #1. Bravo Valiant on this one.

If you’re looking to pick up something new and different this week… I would definitely recommend the first issue of ‘Harbinger’ which is on stands now.
