Briefly: Comic book legend Frank Miller surprised everyone at the ongoing New York Comic-Con with an appearance at a Dark Knight III: The Master Race panel.

That book hits shelves on November 25th, so of course an attendee asked what Frank Miller had planned following this latest controversial book.

“Oh yeah. My next book is set, I’m working on it now, in fact. It’s a Sin City, a love story set against the backdrop of World War II.”

He offered no further information about the characters or details on the book (including a release window), but the fact that another Sin City is on the way (in book form) is very exciting to me. As long as it turns out better than the added segments in last year’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, I’m definitely down.

Would you be excited for another Sin City book? Or have you seen/read enough of Basin City and its inhabitants for one lifetime?

Briefly: This is gorgeous.

Odd City Entertainment and the Austin Film Society have debuted a fantastic screen print by Paul Shipper, and it’s definitely a piece that I’d love to add to my wall (I’ve already go the Odd City/James Fosdike Trick ‘r Treat piece hanging in front of me).

The piece has been created for the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For premiere event in Austin on Wednesday, August 20th. Here’s what artist Paul Shipper said about the piece:

“When I was asked to create a poster for the Frank Miller/Robert Rodriguez Sin City sequel, I was excited by the graphic nature of the film and its origins. The simplistic yet complexly rich approach of the black, white and red palette of the film is something that lends itself to the poster design. It’s also worth noting that this is my very first screen-printed poster! The original concept of the poster was loosely based on the original 1944 poster for Double Indemnity with the embrace of a man and woman being very prominent in the design.”

Want to get your hands on one? Here are the details:

The Odd City limited edition prints will be on sale at The Paramount Theatre (713 Congress Ave) at Austin Film Society’s Texas premiere of SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR (3D) on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, with directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, as well as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, in attendance.

The posters will also be available to purchase at the exclusive event after party, which will be held at the Rattle Inn (610 Nueces).

Tickets to attend the screening and after party can be purchased online through the Austin Film Society. For more information and to purchase a ticket, visit: https://www.austinfilm.org/sincity2

The PAUL SHIPPER SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR print will be a limited release of 200. The 18×24 print will be printed with 4 inks and one metallic on MOHAWK paper BY D&L Printing. All prints are $45.

Any prints remaining after the event will go on sale on the Odd City store on Friday, August 22nd at a random time.

All proceeds from the event, and the poster sales, benefit the Austin Film Society’s artistic programs.

Take a look at the print below, and let us know if you’ll be picking one up!

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is almost here. With its fast approaching release date comes a new clip from the anticipated sequel.

I still remember being a 15 year old kid, absolutely falling in love with the first film, and being so excited when it was announced that a sequel would be put on the fast track. Now, it’s 9 years later, we’re finally close to seeing it.

Sin City had a huge presence at this year’s Comic-Con. The Petco Interactive Zone showed off some of the film’s gorgeous, classic cars (and an incredible racing simulator inside an actual Dodge Charger). Thursday night also held an incredible Sin City themed party on the roof of the Hard Rock Hotel (complete with Sin City clad Suicide Girls, pieces of the film being projected into pools, an awesome photo booth, and more), and while there I had the opportunity to chat with Kevin Smith, Doug Jones, Daughtry, Michael Rooker, and a myriad of other individuals that I never imagined I’d see in person (though strangely, none of the film’s cast made it).

You can take a look at the new clip below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theatres on August 22nd!

Yep… That’s me.

In any case, this new (lengthy) trailer is great, and it definitely gets me excited for the upcoming film. While I worry slightly about the choice to include three new stories instead of utilizing existing material, I’m hopeful that everything will turn out well.

Briefly: Remember that poster that popped up last month, leading the entire internet (and even iMDB) to believe that the Robert Rodriguez’ Sin City sequel had been retitled A Dame to Die For?

Well, it turns out that retitling was a mistake. A new, official poster has just debuted online (and in theatres), and it thankfully shows the A Dame to Kill For moniker.

We heard that a lot of you were a little ticked off at the apparent title change. Are you happy now? Take a look at the new poster below, and let us know what you think! Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theatres on August 22nd, 2014!

Yep, it’s kinda the same poster… just with a cast this time.

Briefly: Could a Sin City television series follow the oft-delayed (and once retitled) Sin City: A Dame to Die For?

Well, the Weinsteins are working on one.

While speaking to The New York Times, Harvey Weinstein stated that “The way to add stability to the company is to be in the television business,” and that the end goal was to have a small-screen division “as powerful as the theatrical division.”

In any case, this could be great news for fans.

Weinstein elaborated that a Sin City series could quickly follow the next film, A Dame to Die For. Could this have been the reasoning behind this year’s last-minute delay of the film?

The Weinsteins are planning a myriad of other series based on existing properties (and new IPs) as well, including:

– The Mist (10-episode, with Frank Darabont involved, naturally)
– Silver Linings Playbook (don’t ask me how on this one)
– The 10 Commandments
– 10-episode detective drama titled Book of the Dead
–
a 14-episode War and Peace series

Would you be interested in a Sin City series? How about The Mist? With under a year to go until Sin City: A Dame to Die For hits theatres (August 22nd, 2014), they better get moving!

Old poster, duh.

I’m starting to think that we’ll never see this movie.

I was 15 years old when Sin City first hit theatres. I loved it, and was unbelievably excited when Robert Rodriguez quickly announced that the film would get a sequel.

I’m 23 now, and I’m still as excited as I was eight years ago when Sin City 2 (now known as Sin City: A Dame To Kill For) was delayed… again and again and again. It looks like old habits die hard, as today, just a few months before the sequel would hit theatres, it was delayed again.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will now release on August 22, 2014. That’s a 325 day delay for those who like numbers. The film stars Joseph Gordon-LevittRay Liotta, Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven, Josh Brolin, Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Bruce Willis and plenty of others, and was scheduled to release this October.

It’s pretty lame news, so be sure to let us know how you feel below!

Aside from the metric ton of casting news (check out just some of it here, here, and here), we haven’t heard or seen much coming out of the production of Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

Director Robert Rodriguez tonight broke that visual silence, and gave us a cool before/after first look at Josh Brolin in the film. Take a look at the images below, and let us know what you think!

Here’s the before:

And after:

Josh Brolin will join plenty of others, including Joseph Gordon-LevittRay Liotta, Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven, Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Bruce Willis and more, when A Dame to Kill For blasts its way into theatres on October 4th!

Variety is reporting that Stacy Keach has joined the ever growing cast of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Keach will play the role of mob boss Wallenquist aka “The Kraut”, who is described by Rodriguez as “the one man who can’t be redeemed in Sin City” and “pure evil.” His face is evidently replete with heavy scars and burn wounds.

Dimension Films have announced that co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have chosen Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Casino Royale) to star as Ava Lord, a role that was rumored to go to Angelina Jolie, in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. The iconic character from the graphic novel is described by Frank Miller as “every man’s most glorious dreams come true, she’s also every man’s darkest nightmares.” Miller and Rodriguez stated:

“We’ve been wanting to tell this story for a very long time. Ava Lord is one of the most deadly and fascinating residents of Sin City. From the start, we knew that the actor would need to be able to embody the multifaceted characteristics of this femme fatale and we found that in Eva Green. We are ecstatic that Eva is joining us.”

The cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has grown yet again. Deadline has revealed that Julia Gardner (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Martha Marcy May Marlene) has been added to the star-studded group of actors that will appear in the film.

She’ll join plenty of others, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven, Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Josh Brolin, Bruce Willis and more, when A Dame to Kill For blasts its way into theatres on October 4th.

I can’t wait.

While the cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has been shaping up very nicely (everyone from Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Josh Brolin to Mickey Rourke to Ray Liotta seem to be involved), Bruce Willis, who played the extremely major character of Hartigan in the first film, has been oddly silent. We’ve been wondering for some time now if he’d even make it into the film, or if his (still major) character would have to be recast.

You can now quit your worrying and rest easy, as Robert Rodriguez has just confirmed to MTV that the venerable (and busy) actor is confirmed for the sequel. It’s brief, but you can’t get much more of a confirmation than this:

“Bruce is back, so you’ll be seeing him.”

Excited? You can watch the interview with Robert Rodriguez below (though only if you’re in the US, which means that I haven’t seen it). The topics include Bruce Willis (of course), and they also delve into both the 3D elements of the film, and just who Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing. Enjoy!

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and its massive cast will hit theatres on October 4th.

SinCity2

Quite a bit of casting news coming down regarding Robert Rodgriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Yesterday when word broke that Joseph Gordon-Levitt had signed on for the film it was also revealed that Josh Brolin (MIB3, Oldboy) was being looked at for one of the film’s roles as well. Well, Brolin has now officially been cast as Dwight, who was played by Clive Owen in the first film, in the upcoming sequel. Check out the full press release below.

Today Dimension Films announced another big name that has been added to the SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR cast roster, further ramping up the ensemble – Academy Award® nominee Josh Brolin (GANGSTER SQUAD, MILK). Brolin will star as “Dwight” in the follow up to FRANK MlLLER’S SIN CITY for co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. The part of the “Dame” has yet to be cast.

Dwight is one of the favorite characters from Miller’s books and the 2005 film. In SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to “The Big Fat Kill” (featured in the film FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY) and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face.

“Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and “A Dame To Kill For” is a defining episode in his life. We’re looking forward to Josh’s take on Dwight,” said Rodriguez and Miller.

Brolin will next be seen alongside Sean Penn in the Warner Bros. 1940’s police drama Gangster Squad set for release January 11, 2013. Brolin recently completed production on the Jason Reitman-directed film Labor Day opposite Kate Winslet, in addition to Spike Lee’s Oldboy, a remake of the popular Korean film. Brolin last appeared as young “Agent K” in Men in Black 3, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and co-starring Will Smith and Emma Thompson. In 2008, Brolin was nominated for an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and received awards from the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review for his portrayal of ‘Dan White’ in Gus Van Sant’s acclaimed film Milk. Prior to that, Brolin earned a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of an ensemble for his work in Joel and Ethan Coen’s No Country for Old Men, which also won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR weaves together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants.

The star studded ensemble includes already announced original cast members Academy Award® nominee Mickey Rourke as “Marv,” Jessica Alba as “Nancy,” Rosario Dawson as “Gail” and Jaime King as “Goldie/Wendy” with new cast members Joseph Gordon-Levitt as “Johnny,” Dennis Haysbert as “Manute” and Jamie Chung as “Miho.” Production is underway at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is scheduled theaters October 4th.

Deadline has just broken news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has signed on to star in Frank Miller and Robert Rodrigueze’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Levitt will play the role of ‘Johnny’, a part that was actually at one point offered to Johnny Depp.

Levitt will be joining the returning cast from the first film as well as newcomers which may include Josh Brolin (Gangster Squad). Brolin is among a list of actors that the studio is courting for “tough guy” roles in the sequel.

The site also goes on to reveal that Levitt has ended talks with Marvel Studios regarding the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Guardians Of The Galaxy and that the studio will now be looking at other candidates. So, scratch one name off the not-so-short list of candidates for the role.

New York, NY January 7, 2013 – Dimension Films announced today that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (LOOPER, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) is joining the all-star cast as one of the lead characters in the highly anticipated SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. The film is the follow up to co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s 2005 visually groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY. Other major casting announcements will continue to follow.

Gordon-Levitt will play “Johnny,” a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game.

“Johnny is a new character in the Sin City world and we are excited for what Joseph will bring to the role,” said Rodriguez and Miller.

Gordon-Levitt most recently wrote, directed and stars in DON JON’S ADDICTION which will premiere this month at Sundance and also stars Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR weaves together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants.

The ensemble includes already announced original cast members Academy Award® nominee Mickey Rourke as “Marv,” Jessica Alba as “Nancy,” Rosario Dawson as “Gail,” and Jaime King as “Goldie/Wendy” with new cast members Dennis Haysbert as “Manute,” and Jamie Chung as “Miho”. Production is underway at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.

The original SIN CITY broke new ground with its iconic stylish look. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR will not only bring fans back to the world that Miller and Rodriguez created, but also add a new dimension by bringing their unique visual style to life in 3D.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR was developed by Frank Miller based upon his graphic novel, with a screenplay by Miller and Academy Award® winner William Monahan (The Departed). The film will be released by Dimension Films in the US and Canada on October 4, 2013 and is produced by Robert Rodriguez’s Quick Draw Productions, Aldamisa, AR Films, Miramax and Solipsist.

After the passing of the great Michael Clarke Duncan, fans began to wonder who who replace him in the upcoming sequel to Sin City. THR has revealed that Dennis Haysbert, who you may best remember as President David Palmer from 24 or Pedro Cerrano from Major League, will be filling the role of Manute in the film. In Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, the comic that the film is based on, Manute is pivotal character.

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller provided an official statement:

“Manute is a character that has been part of the heart of the Sin City tales and the late Michael Clarke Duncan beautifully established that role on screen. We could not tell the story of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For without Manute and are thrilled to welcome Dennis Haysbert to the cast.”

Actresses Jamie Chung (The Man With The Iron Fists) and Jaime King (The Spirit) have joined the cast of Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.
