Although he isn’t necessarily a household name, James Mangold’s extensive résumé speaks for itself. Works like Walk the Line and Girl, Interrupted have captured Oscar statues, while efforts like Logan and 3:10 to Yuma have enjoyed universal acclaim. And smack-dab in the middle of awards season, Mangold drops another heavyweight contender for audiences to enjoy with this weekend’s arrival of Ford v Ferrari, a high-octane drama that speeds to the Best Picture race on the wave of audience and critical support.

A dicey business dealing between the pair of high-profile automakers, Ford and Ferrari, leads to a battle for racing immortality in the 1960s. Ferrari has dominated the renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans race for years, but Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) will stop at nothing to defeat them. Therefore, he enlists the aid of car designer and former driver, Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon), the only American to ever win the race himself, who believes that the hot-headed and stubborn driver, Ken Miles (Christian Bale), is the only man capable of beating Ferrari.

Ford v Ferrari proves to be one of 2019’s most appealing cinematic experiences for a multitude of reasons. For starters, the script is a magnificent blend of hearty comedy and compelling drama that bounce off one another all while developing wildly interesting and likable characters. Matt Damon and Christian Bale are gifted a brilliant and timely story, but it’s their attention to detail and dedication to craft that help take Ford v Ferrari to a whole other level. While it’s a little surprising that more hype hasn’t surrounded these performances as we approach the stretch run of awards season, I wouldn’t be shocked if at least one of them sneaks away with a nomination. Bale may be facing some stiffer competition with both of The Irishman’s supporting actors and a slew of other high-profile supporting turns to measure up against, but he also gives the slightly stronger performance. Damon is fine in his own right, but the character of Ken is so fascinating and Bale knows exactly how to capitalize on good writing. And not only does the script develop the framework for strong central characters, it also touches on some underdog and anti-establishment themes that naturally resonate with today’s moviegoers. In some instances, Ford v Ferrari regrettably re-gifts cookie-cutter moments of familiarity that soften an otherwise outstandingly executed film. Yet, James Mangold and company rise above these schematic similarities to Oscar contenders of the past by delivering what’s arguably Mangold’s best effort to date and one that should make a serious splash during this year’s awards season.

Alamo Drafthouse once again proves why it’s the best theater chain in America with their upcoming, and one night only screening of a noir version of “Logan.”

Drafthouse and 20th Century Fox teaming up to show the film as a noir is a brilliantly appropriate event that both pays homage to the genre as well as giving fans one last chance to see Hugh Jackman on the big screen as Wolverine. This one-time screening event will be followed by an exclusive, live streamed Q & A with director James Mangold across the country beginning at 8 PM EST on Tuesday, May 16th.

The black and white version is a stunning send off to the most brutal telling in the X-Men cinematic universe as Logan and Professor X’s stories come to an end.

Also, Los Angeles fans will also get the chance to see “Logan” slash through the big screen as Alamo Drafthouse and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment co-present LOGAN NOIR with American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre. Tickets for all screenings are available now at drafthouse.com/logannoir.

“It’s an absolute honor to bring this unique and very special chapter to Alamo Drafthouse,” said Tim League, Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO. “Being able to do this with the film’s creator only adds to the gravity of the event and we plan to make this an epic evening in all of our theaters.”

Attendees in every location will be able to participate in the live discussion with Mangold via Twitter using the hashtag #AskAlamo.

Attendees are requested to wear only black and white clothing and as a parting gift commemorating Logan’s final ride, all theater guests in monochromatic attire will receive an exclusive commemorative event poster.

Hot on the heels of Monday’s plot reveal; we have ourselves something truly incredible. Check out the latest trailer for Logan.

Personally I wasn’t totally on board with Logan. The first teaser trailer didn’t do it for me. It just felt like another X-Men movie, but with the added emotional hostage taking of Johnny Cash’s Hurt. Today’s trailer put me in the boots of Wolverine. I got invested in the characters, and for a trailer to do that means this film should be on point.

Logan is directed by James Mangold and stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen.

Catch it in theaters March 3rd.

Before anything, watch first.

Okay, now that you’ve seen it once or twice, may three or four times, what did you think? Does it look like a normal Marvel movie? It has the action, it has the characters – it’s going to be interesting. With little story detail attached, we can gain this – a girl, who is a mutant, will become what Logan is to Professor X. In a way, it looks like this movie will be passing the torch onto a new set of mutants, which is going to be awesome.

‘Logan’ is set to hit theaters March 3rd, 2017.

Sound off below on what you guys think.

During Marvel’s X-Men panel at Toronto’s Fan Expo, it was announced that Ramon Perez, the artist of the Eisner Award winning Jim Henson’s Tale Of Sand (which you can see some of his art from below), will be joining the art team on Wolverine & The X-Men starting with a five issue arc that will take them to the savage land next January.

Perez is also the artist behind Marvel’s own John Carter: The Gods of Mars mini-series and has pencilled a number of one-shots and limited series for Marvel over the years, but this will be his first time doing an ongoing for Marvel. I dropped this title awhile ago and have only been picking up the tie-ins but with this announcement I may have to add this one back to my pull list.

Check out a first look at some of Perez’s pencils for issue #25 below [via iFanboy]:

So, now even if this movie sucks you can watch it for the sheer enjoyment of the beauty of Jessica Biel being in it. You read that right kiddies. Ms. Biel has joined the cast as Victoria/Viper.

According to Marvel lore Viper bounces between good and not so good and she holds some sway over Wolverine but is mostly a foe to the X-Men and Avengers.

I hated that last Wolverine movie but the recent castings has definitely increased the interest I have in this flick that started with James Mangold directing.

‘The Wolverine’ claws its way into theaters July 26, 2013.

So, remember ‘Wolverine And The X-Men’? That fan-favorite animated series that only made it through one season because it couldn’t find the funding for a second one? Well, ‘1 Million To Save Wolverine And The X-Men’ has updated their Facebook page with some awesome concept art showing what could have been had the series continued.

Deadpool? Cable? Scarlet Witch? Havok? Age Of Apocalypse in animated form?!

Now I just kind of picked my own favorites here but if you check out their Facebook page you can see them all. This includes some colored in versions of the AoA concepts.

For those that follow X-Men, particularly the latest spinoff ‘The Wolverine‘ which will be directed by James Mangold (Director of the movie, Cop Land), the latest development for the film is that it’s going to be shot at least in part in Sydney, Australia, due to a $12.8 million government payoff from Australia as well as other incentives. What’s even more interesting is that at this time, Sydney is going to be the primary location for shooting the film when the story dictates that Wolverine will be traveling to Japan in the story. This means that every shot of Japan will essentially be done in Australia.

At this time, at least $80 million is going to be spent in Australia, including visual effects, while post production work will be in the US. It’s certainly an interesting development, as you would figure that since the story takes place in Japan, it would be a logical decision to shoot in Japan since the primary story takes place in Japan. However, ultimately, it does depend on the production team in how he chooses to use Sydney’s locations to convince the audience that Wolverine is in Japan. There are a lot of new film stages in and around Sydney, but let’s just hope that we don’t spot a kangaroo or a  koala bear in the background of some of the exterior shots. Then again, that would already make it way better than “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” aka “The Tale of Jimmy Logan: The Man They Call Wolverine” aka “Not What We Considered a Real Wolverine Movie by Any Stretch”.

James Mangold’s “The Wolverine” is expected for a July 2013 release.
