Briefly: Back in October, DC Comics celebrated the 75th anniversary of Superman with an awesome short film that took us through the history of the iconic character.

Now, it’s Batman’s turn. Producer Bruce Timm has crafted a new short “featuring a lost tale from Batman’s past” in which “the Dark Knight tracks a strange giant to the mysterious lair of Dr. Hugo Strange.”

It’s a standalone story, which is a far cry from the history-spanning Superman short. But of course, we love them both. You can take a look at Batman: Strange Days below, and let us know what you think!

What’s been your favourite Batman story of the last 75 years?

Briefly: EW today debuted a new look at Evan Peter’s Quicksilver in next month’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The character’s design has been largely criticized since its debut, but (to me, anyways) he certainly looks better in action than while posing. The scene is apparently one of Peters’ only in the film, as writer/producer Simon Kinberg explains that it “is the bulk of Quicksilver’s presence in this film. They need somebody who can help them get in and out of somewhere. And the idea is that Logan knew him in the future and so they go to try to find his younger self.”

Take a look at the still below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to X-Men: Days of Future Past. Be sure to look for the film’s final trailer on April 15th.

Quicksilver

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.

Briefly: It’s been well over a year since Disney first announced a followup to the much beloved 90’s series Boy Meets World, and today the network has debuted the first teaser for the upcoming sequel, Girl Meets World.

The teaser is a pretty cute throwback to the old series, when Cory would try to sneak out of his parent’s house. I won’t ruin things for fans however, so take a look at the (short) teaser below, and let us know what you think. Girl Meets World will premiere on Disney Channel this Summer.

http://youtu.be/egGVgMiGdBY

Briefly: All the way back in January, Warner Bros. teased us that new Batman: Arkham Origins story DLC was on its way.

Today, they took us through some gameplay. Creative Director Eric Holmes and Game Director Benoit Richer are seen answering plenty of questions about what we’ll see in the DLC, and we also see a neat new thermal suit, as well as some new abilities for Batman.

The DLC will hit PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on April 22nd. Note that the content will not be making the Wii U edition (which is, of course, the one that I bought). Take a look at the new video below, and let us know what you’ve thought of Arkham Origins so far.

Briefly: Sony just announced The Last of Us Remastered yesterday, and today the publisher has launched the game’s first trailer.

The video is filled with quotes of praise from various outlets, and only showcases a small piece of (albeit gorgeous) footage. It’s still pretty exciting as, well, we’re getting The Last of Us on PS4, so take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’ll be playing again on Sony’s newest console!

Briefly: Sony has just debuted a final, hilarious red band trailer for 22 Jump Street, which hits theatres on June 13th.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller return to direct the sequel to the 2012 film (which was a lot funnier than I was expecting, and ended up being one of the most hilarious films of the year). 22 Jump Street takes Jenko and Schmidt to college, and I cannot wait to see what happens when they get there.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think!

After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership.  Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.

Briefly: A few weeks back it was rumoured that The Last of Us would be making its way to Sony’s PS4 this Summer.

Sony has just made the rumour official by announcing The Last of Us Remastered on their official blog. The added power of the PS4 has allowed the team at Naughty Dog (the port is being handled internally… always good news) to “remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements.”

The Last of Us has won over 200 Game of the Year Awards (including a couple from us at Geekscape) and I’m beyond excited to hear that it’s coming to Sony’s newest console, both because I really want to play the game again, and I’m also happy that gamers who missed out on the stellar game the first time around will be getting another chance to play.

The remastered edition will include the base game, plus all of the expansions (including the excellent single-player chapter, Left Behind), and will also feature an “exclusive director’s commentary for all in-game cinematics featuring Creative Director and Writer, Neil Druckmann; Voice Actor, Troy Baker, who plays Joel; and BAFTA Award winning Voice Actress, Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.”

The Last of Us Remastered will release this Summer. Will you be picking it up?

Briefly: Bethesda has just launched a creepy new trailer for Shinji Mikami’s Summer horror game, The Evil Within.

The latest video shows the game’s protagonist probably going crazy, and then (appropriately) questing his sanity himself. The trailer shows off some absolutely gorgeous segments, and also features exactly the creepy shit that you’d expect to see from the creator of Resident Evil.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the game. The Evil Within launches for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on August 26th.

Briefly: Aside from a pretty awful title, this is some pretty sweet news.

The announcement of Telltale’s Tales From The Borderlands was a welcome reveal, but we’ve all been waiting desperately for 2K Games to reveal the next true Borderlands title.

Today, we got that reveal with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

The game will launch this Fall on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC (no next-gen interestingly enough), and will take us (for the first time) to the moon of Pandora. According to 2K’s official blog post, the game is “Set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, you’ll play as four new characters classes fighting alongside Handsome Jack, witnessing his transformation into the ruthless tyrant you loved to hate in Borderlands 2, and assisting with the rise of the Hyperion Corporation. The signature shoot ‘n’ loot gameplay of the Borderlands series expands with the addition of low-gravity and oxygen-powered jetpack combat, the icy ‘Cryo’ elemental damage type, the deadly laser weapon class, and new vehicles to help you explore the lunar landscape.”

Sounds like some worthy additions to the already awesome gameplay, don’t they?

The game’s new classes are as follows:

– Athena, the Gladiator: Uses her Kinetic Aspis, which is a shield that can absorb incoming damage, then convert it back into energy to use against enemies. Athena made her debut in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for the first Borderlands game.

– Wilhelm, the Enforcer: Wilhelm was previously seen in Borderlands 2 as one of the first deadly bosses in the game.

– Nisha, the Lawbringer: The sheriff of Lynchwood from Borderlands 2, Nisha will be dealing out her own brand of justice, which we’ll discuss further in the coming months.

– Claptrap, the Fragtrap: Wait – Claptrap? The goofy robot companion from Borderlands 2, now playable for the first time? Fragtrap is his character class? Well, you can play him too!

You can take a look at the first screenshots from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel below, and head over to the 2K Blog for a few more details. Are you ready to jump back into this universe? What are you looking forward to most?

Briefly: Following the film’s first TV spot from just over a week ago, Fox has debuted seven new stills from this Summer’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The stills take us to both sides of the conflict, and we get a good look at many of our human actors, as well as some photorealistic apes holding shotguns (ouch).

Take a look at the stills below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theatres on July 11th!

In ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Briefly: It was announced back in February that Sony’s slimmer, lighter Vita 2000 would be making its way to North America in the Spring, and now we know just when you’ll be able to get your hands on one.

Sony revealed today that the Borderlands 2 PS Vita bundle will launch in stores on May 6th (while the standalone game will launch on May 13th).

The bundle includes a black Vita 2000, a copy of Borderlands 2, and an 8Gb memory card all for $199.99.

Again, the new Vita 2000 is about 20% thinner and 15% lighter than the previous model, and also has 1Gb of built-in memory (up from nothing). It gets about an hour of extra battery life too (which it desperately needed). The only downside? It uses a standard LCD over the gorgeous OLED from the original model (which is apparently not a huge deal as those who have used both units).

Will you be picking up the new unit? Do you already have a Vita? Be sure to let us know!

We have no idea what we’ll be seeing in today’s unusual afternoon Nintendo Direct, but as the huge Smash Bros. fans that we are, we’re damned excited.

The show starts in just a few minutes at 3PM PST, so watch it below, and let us know what you think of the announcements.

I could start by talking all about the project, but since the first nine minutes of The Last Beat have already hit the web, why not start with that?

http://youtu.be/jgoOiEUueOc

The film follows “the final days of Jay Douglas, famous American rock star, in a turbulent, but exhilarating early 1970’s Paris. Inspired by the last days of rock and pop culture icon Jim Morrison, the film is not in any way a traditional biopic, but a lyrical study of a brilliant, complex, and troubled soul. Tragic and comedic, at the film’s core are Jay’s broken, but passionate relationships with the two women in his life — Clemence, a glamorous Countess, and his professed “soul-mate,” Valerie Eason, an earthy red-haired beauty from golden California.”

“The Last Beat”  stars Shawn Andrews (Dazed and Confused) as Jay Douglas, Cameron Richardson(Shameless, Harper’s Island) as Valerie, with Martha Higareda (Street Kings), Kevin Corrigan (Pineapple Express, The Mentalist), Seymour Cassel (Heist), Courtney Halverson (Godspeed, Death Valley), Leah Cevoli (Deadwood, Robot Chicken) and Helenna Santos (American Reunion, BlackBoxTv).

It looks like a cool project, and its in-progress IndieGoGo campaign is going very well.  The Last Beat is currently sitting at $32,875 of its $100,000 goal, and it still has 14 days to get there. There are (as always) some fantastic rewards up for grabs, including shootouts, production diaries, copies of the completed film, limited edition shirts, and even extra roles in the film (and more).

Take a look at the IndieGoGo video for The Last Beat below, and head here to back the project!

Briefly: Game of Thrones fourth season premiered to HBO Go crashing numbers just two days ago… so HBO, naturally, renewed the series for not one, but two more seasons.

According to the press release, “The season four premiere of GAME OF THRONES on Sunday, April 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) was watched by an average of 6.6 million viewers, making it HBO’s most-watched program since the finale of “The Sopranos” in 2007 (11.9 million viewers). The premiere improved 52% over last season’s premiere and 23% over last season’s finale. GAME OF THRONES added an additional 1.6 million viewers from the 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. replays, for a gross audience of 8.2 million viewers for the night. Season three of the series had an average gross audience of 14.4 million viewers per episode.”

That’s a big increase.

HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo stated that “GAME OF THRONES is a phenomenon like no other. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

Are you looking forward to (at least) two more years in Westeros? What did you think of Sunday’s premiere? Sound out below!

Briefly: The first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dropped a couple of weeks back to (understandably) mixed reception. Today, Paramount debuted four new teaser posters for the August release, focussing on their weapons and colours rather than their… lips.

Briefly: As a big fan of the show, I’m very happy about this.

A&E has ordered a third season of their hit series, Bates Motel. It’s no surprise, seeing as the show “continues to be A&E’s #1 drama series of all time among adults 18-49.”

The third season will begin its 10-episode production this Fall.

A&E Executive Vice President and General Manager David McKillop stated that “The incredible writing team and talented ‘Bates Motel’ cast has made this series one of the most compelling original dramas on television. The brilliant twists and turns of the past two seasons keep its loyal fan base coming back for more. We are so proud of the show.”

Are you watching season two? What are your thoughts so far? Sound out below!

Briefly: So it turns out that Drew Goddard is a pretty busy guy.

Back in December, Sony announced plans to release both Venom and Sinister Six spinoffs of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. A five person team of Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard formed a “brain trust” to continue the Amazing Spider-Man franchise with a consistent tone (and maintain the connections between each film).

Goddard was already set to write the announced Sinister Six spinoff, and as THR has reported, it now looks like he’ll be directing it too.

It’s interesting to see Drew Goddard’s name here, as the talented writer/director was recently tapped to write (and maybe direct) the Daredevil series for Netflix. In any case, it certainly raises my hopes for a film about six villains that haven’t been introduced yet.

Are you down for the spinoff, or would you rather see the main The Amazing Spider-Man series better establish itself first

Briefly: We’re still a few months away from the film hitting theatres, but MTV has just debuted the first clip from James Gunn’s highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy.

The clip revolves around the orb that we saw in the film’s first trailer, and… well, take a look at the clip and see how things play out. Guardians of the Galaxy hits theatres on August 1st!

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchise of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits -Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Briefly: Mojang’s lesser know, but still awesome Scrolls (which launched for PC/Mac/Linux back in May 2013), is headed to iPad.

In a Mojang blog post focussed on “what’s next for Scrolls”, the developer stated the following:

It’s been a while since the last update on Scrolls development, so here’s a handy post on that very subject. Read and learn, honourable Scrolldier.

A new ranking system

We’re working on a new system that will express ranks in a more palatable format. Check above some some visual spoilers from Henrik.

Also, Jeb (yes – the friendly Minecraft guy, who just happens to be one of the most ardent Scrolls players in the office) has been helping develop ways to reward both hyper-competitive and lower ranked scrolldiers for their dedication. The plan is to integrate some kind of weekly reward system.

A new tutorial

We’re aware that Scrolls can be intimidating for beginners. To combat this, we’re replacing our existing tutorial with two snappier ones that’ll teach basic mechanics within a few minutes play.

Audio and visual tweaks

Mattis returned from his Japanese vacation inspired and livelier than ever: “I want to juice up Scrolls, yo!” But what does this actually mean? It means that Mattis is looking into ways to make the core gameplay of Scrolls more rewarding. Powerful attacks should have more oomph, and enchantments should be more visually striking.

Similarly, Aron has been working on improving Scrolls’ sound systems. This means we can add new audio effects to units, spells and enchantments.

The demo version

The team are also working on a demo version of Scrolls. It won’t affect how existing Scrolldiers play, but will provide a slice of Scrolls gameplay for the curious. It’ll also make things a lot simpler for… you guessed it…

The tablet version

An iPad/tablet version of Scrolls is in the works! We’ve enlisted the aid of Ludosity to port Scrolls into flatter, more touchy devices. We’ll have more news on this soon.

The game is addicting, a ton of fun, and with a port coming from the developer of Card City Nights, the world of Scrolls will soon expand in a good way.

Are you already playing? Will you be checking out the tablet version? Sound out below!

Briefly: If you’re lucky enough to be headed to a 7PM IMAX showing of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on May 1st, you have an awesome poster to pick up while you’re there.

Sony has entrusted Mondo with the one-sheet, and as you’d expect, it’s totally phenomenal.

Take a look at the image below, and let us know if you’l be headed to one of the first IMAX screenings!

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Briefly: A few days back, Fox debuted a myriad of character posters for next month’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Today, the studio debuted four more!

The movie’s looking pretty hot, and as you can expect, we can’t wait to see it. Rewatch the theatrical trailer here if you need to, and take a look at the next posters below. X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres on May 23rd!

Briefly: It’s not often that we post news from TMZ, but this is just too good not to share.

Richard Donner has just confirmed that a sequel to 1985’s The Goonies is coming, and that hopefully all of the original film’s stars will return.

It’s unknown whether the actors will play the same roles as they did all those years back, or if they’ll be featured in cameo roles instead.

As soon as we know more, we’ll be sure to let you know all about it. In any case, are you in for the sequel, or would you rather your childhood memories be left alone?

Take a look at TMZ’s video below, and listen to what Richard Donner has to say.

Briefly: Each of the past few days has brought on a sweet, sweet new TV spot for Legendary and Warner Bros. upcoming Godzilla.

Today, they debuted the film’s best trailer yet.

Chock-full of new footage, the preview shows us exactly what Bryan Cranston’s character is up to, and it’s really the best look at the film’s plot that we’ve seen so far. Plus, we get a great look at that giant, scary-as-hell monster.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know how excited you are for the movie. Godzilla hits theatres on May 16th!

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Briefly: Yesterday we told you all about Massachusett’s Pop Culture Expo, which is bound to be a fantastic weekend in May (the 24th & 25th, to be exact).

We just wanted to highlight the fact that our good pal Leah Cevoli (who has acted in Sorority of the Damned, Nightmare Code, multiple episodes of Robot ChickenMy Name Is EarlDeadwoodand more), is one of the expo’s special guests, and she’ll also appear on multiple panels during her time there.

Panel information hasn’t been revealed yet, but we do know that Leah will partake in the voiceover panel on Saturday (with other guests that may have not been announced yet), and she’ll also be moderating an interactive celebrity panel with details still to be determined.

So, if you’re planning to attend the Pop Culture Expo (again, you can find all of the info here), be sure to look out for Leah!

PopCulture

Most notably known as a voice actor, Leah Cevoli has voiced 30+ characters on Cartoon Network’s Emmy award winning animated series “Robot Chicken,” and worked in-front of and behind the camera as an actress and producer of film, television, and web, including high profile shows like “My Name is Earl,” and “Deadwood.” A professional live event host, Leah has hosted TV programs, webcasts, rock n roll concerts, charity fundraisers and the founder of “All Shapes and Sizes Welcome! Body Image & Women’s Issues in Entertainment.”  A staff writer for “Ms. In The Biz” and “Daily Dead News,” Leah combines her love for social media, horror, rock ‘n roll, techie stuff and spontaneity in all that she does. Upcoming projects include the feature film “Blood Kiss” starring Neil Gaiman, the horror short “The White Room”, the animated series, “Bringing Up Tommy”, the horror feature Sorority of The Damned, and the dark indie-drama Nowhere Land. She is an experienced yogi, a beginner fire dancer, and a certified level 2 Reiki practitioner.

Briefly: The cast of Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man has grown once more.

Following Patrick Wilson joining the cast back in February, Deadline has reported that Escape Plan and G.I. Joe: Retaliation star Matt Gerald has joined the film in a “villainous” role.

No other information on who Gerald will play was revealed, but we’ll be sure to fill you in as we learn more. Are you looking forward to Ant-Man? Sound out below!

Briefly: Another day, another excellent new TV spot for next month’s Godzilla.

This one’s called ‘Courage’, it clocks in at over a minute long, and it yet again features more new footage.

Take a look at the spot below, and let us know how excited you are for the film!

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Briefly: As repetitive as it could sometimes be, I was a big fan of Beenox’s video game adaptation of The Amazing Spider-Man. Swinging through a high-definition New York with Arkham City style combat was a blast, and as the game’s light plot was leaps and bounds ahead of the film (which isn’t saying much), I kept coming back for more.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game was announced all the way back at New York Comic-Con, and Activision has just launched a new trailer for the title. The new footage definitely shows the graphical leap from the first title, and this trailer focusses on the myriad of villains featured in the title.

As longs as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 features more variety than the first title, we’ll be in for a fun ride (again, swinging through the city was cool, but the city simply had nothing to do in it). Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be picking it up! The title will launch on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS, and Windows on April 29th!

You all know how excited we at Geekscape are for Warner Bros. and Legendary’s upcoming Godzilla. From the Godzilla Encounter event at last year’s SDCC, to the film’s first trailer, to the about-to-release graphic novel, and everything in between, we’re absolutely enamoured with the legendary creature’s long-overdue reboot and return to form.

A huge character like the king of monsters warrants a huge lineup of cool tie-ins, and that’s exactly what Godzilla is getting. Late last week, a sweet package from Warner Bros. Consumer Products arrived, giving me a small taste of the fantastic Godzilla products making their way to shelves.

The package came complete with fantastic Godzilla Encounter esque box art.
