Briefly: We’ve all seen (and judged) the first trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice at least half a dozen times by now, and in anticipated of the upcoming BvS IMAX event (you know, the one where the trailer was supposed to premiere), Warner Bros. has officially released the first two posters for the film. Director Zack Snyder still wants you to head to your local IMAX however, noting that attendees will get “a few extra shots plus a little swag.”

They’re pretty damned cool, and definitely look to fit in with the tone established in last week’s trailer.

Take a look at the images below, and be sure to let us know your thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice thus far! Are you looking forward to the March 25th, 2016 release?

Briefly: All the way back in January of 2013, we featured a very intriguing Kickstarter project by our pal Jon Schnepp.

If you were a comic book fan, and more than a few years old in the mid-to-late 1990′s, you probably remember hearing about a little film called Superman Lives. The feature was set to be directed by (then arguably at his most popular) Tim Burton, written by Kevin Smith, and star Nicolas Cage.

Production got to the point where filming was about to begin… and then it was gone. There have been plenty of different stories as to why, but in all honesty, nobody really knows.

Sure, it would have been weird (have you seen the leaked costume test), but that’s not to say it wouldn’t have been good. So what happened?

That’s what Jon Schnepp wanted to find out. The Kickstarter was an absolute sensation, and would eventually earn $115,110 of its $98,000 goal.

It’s been a long journey (and more than a lot of work for Schnepp and crew), but the film is finally almost here. The Death Of “Superman Lives”; What Happened? will screen at the Egyptian theatre in Los Angeles on May 1st and 2nd (grab tickets from Fandango).

The official poster for the film has just hit the web, and it looks freaking sweet. I won’t be attending the premiere due to the fact that I live all the way up in Canada, but as a backer of the project I am beyond excited to see it.

Take a look at the poster below, and let us know what you’re most looking forward to see in the documentary!

Briefly: It still seems crazy to me that Blade Runner 2 is even happening, but today we learned just who may be starring alongside Harrison Ford.

Yep, hey girl himself, Ryan Gosling.

The upcoming sequel is set several decades after Blade Runner, and Ford will reprise his Rick Deckard role from the first film. Gosling’s potential character, as well as any story details for the feature, have not been revealed at this time.

Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green wrote the screenplay for this one, and Prisoners (which I loved) director Denis Villeneuve is set for the director’s chair.

I’m still hearing a lot of blowback about the fact that this film even exists, but I dug the Blade Runner world, and (naturally) have a perfectly healthy man-crush on Ryan Gosling, so why not jump back in?

In any case, you can take a look at the full press release below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film, which is set to start production next Summer.

Gosling

Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to BLADE RUNNER, being directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) and executive produced by Ridley Scott.

Harrison Ford will co-star as Rick Deckard, the role he portrayed in the original directed by Scott.

Principal photography is set to start in summer of 2016. Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Scott.

The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original. Story details, as well as Gosling’s character, are not being revealed.

Gosling will be seen next in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys opposite Russell Crowe, and in Terrence Malick’s Weightless. He is currently in production starring opposite Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Steve Carrell in The Big Short.

Villeneuve’s upcoming feature film Sicario, a drug-trafficking drama starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro from Black Label Media, has been recently announced in Competition at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Villeneuve previously worked with Kosove and Johnson as the director of Alcon’s critically acclaimed Prisoners.

Alcon Entertainment acquired the prequel and sequel film, television and ancillary franchise rights to the iconic science-fiction thriller BLADE RUNNER in 2011 from producers Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, who will serve as producers on the sequel along Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

Among its many distinctions, BLADE RUNNER has been singled out as one of the greatest movies of all time by innumerable polls and media outlets, and overwhelmingly as the greatest science-fiction film of all time by a majority of genre publications.

Released by Warner Bros., BLADE RUNNER was adapted by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples from Philip K. Dick’s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” and was directed by Ridley Scott following his landmark Alien.” The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction).

BLADE RUNNER was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1993 and is frequently taught in university courses. In 2007, it was named the 2nd most visually influential film of all time by the Visual Effects Society.

Blizzard’s mobile money-printing machine, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has been available for iPad users for over a year at this point (and Android tablets since December). Today, after a long wait and a few delays, Blizzard finally added the iPhone and Android phones to its list of supported devices.

I’ve been skeptical of Blizzard’s plans to shrink the title and its glorious artwork down for smartphones, but the free-to-play collectable card game’s new iteration features a complete redesign that looks just as intuitive as its tablet and desktop counterparts. Current players, of course, need not worry about lost progress, as simply logging in to your Battle.net account will sync each and every card, record, and piece of gold into the iPhone version as well.

To further entice players to download the game on another device, Blizzard notes that playing through an entire match on the mobile edition will earn gamers a free classic card pack. I don’t know about you, but I’m sold.

I’ve put more hours into Hearthstone than I have into any other iOS title that I’ve played, and I have to say that the fact that an iPhone version now exists terrifies me. Hearthstone remains one of the most addicting games that I’ve experienced, and it’s hard to imagine having it on the device that’s always with me. If you haven’t yet experienced its power, be warned: the free-to-play moniker is misleading, as Hearthstone may cost you more of your time than you ever thought possible.

In any case, take a look at the Hearthstone mobile trailer below, and let us know if you plan to try it out!

Briefly: Matthew Vaughn is pretty hot right now. Kingsman: The Secret Service was both critically acclaimed and financially successful, and THR reports that the director may have found his follow up: Flash Gordon.

Vaughn’s no stranger to beloved geek properties, of course, directing both Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class prior to Kingsman, and I definitely think he could be a good fit here.

Not familiar with the property? THR notes that “Gordon is the adventurer first created in 1934 by iconic artist Alex Raymond. The hero, along with the lovely Dale Arden and mad scientist Hans Zasrkov, ends up on the planet Mongo fighting its tyrannical ruler, Ming the Merciless.”

The script was written by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

Nothing is official at this point of course, but we’ll be sure to let you know if we hear any additional info about the project. Would you be into Vaughn directing the feature? Is there anyone else you’d rather see in the director’s chair? Sound out below!

Briefly: Just two days after original director Michelle MacLaren left Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. has found a replacement.

Monster director Patty Jenkins has signed on to helm the project, according to THR. Jenkins was also once attached to direct Thor 2 (which would have made her the first female director in the MCU), and also directed the pilot for AMC’s The Killing.

MacLaren left Wonder Woman due to creative differences, so let’s hope that things go better this time around.

Are you looking forward to the film? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, the first trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is nearly here.

Zack Snyder has debuted a few seconds of (slightly boring) costume footage for the trailer reveal that’s set for next week. It’s unknown at this point whether or not the trailer will hit the web next week, but those eager to see Batman and Superman in action can currently RSVP for an IMAX event next Monday.

Unfortunately, the IMAX event doesn’t appear to be happening in my country, so I’ll have to wait for a description and hopefully the trailer hits the internet (and the great white north) shortly after the event.

In any case, you can take a look at the teaser footage below, and be sure to let us know if you’ll be going to the event. Don’t forget to RSVP, which you can do right here

Briefly: Avengers: Age of Ultron is fast approaching its May 1st release date, and Marvel has just debuted two fantastic new clips from the beyond-anticipated film.

In the movie, “When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.”

The first clip shows just how Black Widow learns to calm down Hulk, while the second features a heated argument between the main cast. They’re not very spoiler-y, but it’s definitely starting to feel like we’ve seen the whole film at this point.

Take a look at the clips below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: We were all pretty excited last month when Harmonix officially announced Rock Band 4, and today Activision followed suit with another entry into the Guitar Hero series called Guitar Hero Live.

And with that, the over-saturation of games and plastic must-buy-to-play controllers that led to the death of the music game industry just a few years back, is all of a sudden relevant again.

At least this time around, the games do look vastly different, with Guitar Hero Live focusing on an actual concert experience with real crowds and real reactions (as well as GHTV, which sounds interesting), while Rock Band 4 looks to bring back the classic game that we all loved, but with the tons and tons of tracks that we’ve all purchased over the years.

In any case, with both games launching this year, it’ll be very interesting to see the rhythm game war begin all over again. Are you more of a Guitar Hero or Rock Band fan? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Briefly: Just days after confirming that Ben Hardy would be playing Angel in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, the director has again taken to Twitter (and Instagram) to reveal another mutant (and cast member) for the anticipated film.

Attack of the Show! and The Newsroom actress Olivia Munn has been tapped to play Betsy Braddock / Psylocke in the film. In case you’re not familiar with the character, Wikipedia states that “Originally presented as a precognitive in the pages of Captain Britain and then as a telepath, the character eventually acquired the body, skills and elements of personality of a Japanese female ninja known as Kwannon. Later, Psylocke somehow acquired the telekinesis of Jean Grey.” Sounds pretty bad-ass.

Excited to welcome @oliviamunn as Betsy Braddock! #Psylocke #XmenApocalypse #XMEN

A photo posted by Bryan Singer (@bryanjaysinger) on

With three mutant filled feature films set to arrive from Fox next year (X-Men: Apocalypse, Gambit, and Deadpool), things are about to get even busier for comic book fans. Are you down for Olivia Munn as Pyslocke? Is there someone else you’d rather see in the role? Sound out below!

Briefly: I had no idea that this existed, and if it weren’t for the iPhones in this first trailer, I’d likely have mistaken it for something from the 1990’s.

Yep, a Scream TV series is incoming, and it launches on June 30th. The show looks cheesy-as-hell in classic Scream fashion, which could be exactly what television needs right now, amidst all of the gritty, dark, depressing series that are so prominent today.

The official tagline for the series is “Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies. Everyone is fair game,” and I have to say that, even though I don’t really remember Scream (I was a young boy when the first film released), I’m intrigued by the self-aware musings of the series.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be watching when Scream releases on June 30th!

It’s still got a stupid title (which I imagine has something to do with the huge spoiler that’s just been revealed), but Terminator Genisys looks pretty damned cool. The first trailer for the film was clearly made for fans of the franchise, mirroring scenes and quips directly from the first three films (and ignoring Salvation entirely), but today’s new trailer is definitely the one that ‘what the hell’ed me into being excited for the movie.

Here you go:

https://youtu.be/rGSxss7gWak

Yep. It certainly looks as though JC is the bad guy, doesn’t it? Which essentially turns the entire series on its head, which is probably what it needed more than anything. Seeing this, I’d guess that the Genisys subtitle is also the name of the program or experiment that John’s been through to turn him into something more than man or machine.

In any case, I’m down. Terminator Genisys hits theatres on July 1st. How do you feel about it?

Briefly: Okay, so we were totally lying on April 1st when we said that Chandler Riggs was playing Spider-Man.

But, today Kevin Feige did drop some new info about the role.

Feige revealed to Collider today that the new Spider-Man will indeed be Peter Parker, and that he’ll be Ultimate style 15-16 years old:

“In terms of the age of an actor we’ll eventually to cast, I don’t know. In terms of the age of what we believe Peter Parker is, I’d say 15-16 is right.”

He continues, explaining just why they chose to go with a younger Spidey this time around (aside from the fact that an immediately older one didn’t work):

“We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there’ve been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it is, even though there’ve been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being the ‘young, doesn’t quite fit in’ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn’t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about.”

Feige also culled some of our fears in a conversation with CraveOnline, revealing that the next Spider-Man film that we see won’t be an origin story:

“In Spider-Man’s very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it’s been – [thirteen] years – for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics. It will not be an origin story. But, with great power comes great responsibility. It is inherent to who his character is. But we want to reveal it in different ways and spend much more time focusing on this young high school kid in the MCU dealing with his powers. There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU, you just don’t know it yet,“

Phew, I really didn’t want to spend the first half of his solo film with him learning how to wall crawl and stand up for himself. So, who would you like to see suit up as Spidey now that Donald Glover is definitely out?

Briefly: The cast of AMC’s Preacher has grown once more.

We’ve got Ruth Negga as Tulip O’Hare, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ian Colletti as Arseface, and now True Blood‘s Lucy Griffiths has joined the project as Emily Woodrow, a “no-nonsense single mother of three. Emily’s a waitress, the church organist, a bookkeeper and Jesse’s loyal right hand. Stoic and strong, wise beyond her years, she can’t help but have a little thing for Preacher Jesse.”

I don’t actually remember Emily from the comic series, so it could be that: a) I don’t have a very good memory, and I simply can’t recall her. b) She’s been created just for the series. c) She was a minor character that’s being expanded for the AMC version. d) Something else entirely.

Aside from Lucy’s casting, TheWrap has reported that Dominic Cooper is nearing a deal to sign on as Jesse Custer.

Are you looking forward to Preacher? What do you think of the casting so far? Are you down with Dominic Cooper as Jesse, or is there someone else you’d rather see in the role?? Sound out below!

IT’S MORPHIN’ TIME.

Well, in 15 months. Which means that Lionsgate really needs to get moving on production, which starts with them finding actors (and a director). The film founds its writers back in July of last year, and TheWrap has learned that Project Almanac director Dean Israelite has entered negotiations to direct the anticipated film.

Project Almanac has to be one of the most original films that I’ve seen this year, dealing with a high school student and his friends, who uncover blueprints for a mysterious device with limitless potential, inadvertently putting lives in danger. It did a fantastic job of showcasing what real people would likely do with a time machine, and it featured a cast of unknowns whose chemistry really made Project Almanac memorable. It seemed to slip under the radar of most, but I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot.

Israelite has also been tapped to direct a WarGames reboot.

How would you feel about Dean in the director’s chair? I feel like an up-and-comer with a history of working with (and making a film for) youth can only be good for a Power Rangers film. Unless you want it to look like the BOOTLEG UNIVERSE version.

Briefly: After a timely leak yesterday, Square-Enix has officially revealed the next game in the Deus Ex series, titled Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

The game is set two years after the events of Human Revolution, and is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (though it’s still without a release date, which is far preferable to it simply being delayed).

According to Square-Enix, the game’s plot is as follows:

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes place in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution and the infamous ‘Aug Incident’ in Panchaea that resulted in the death of millions at the hands of those who had installed augmentations. This event has created a huge divide between those who have augmentations, and those who do not. Amongst this emotional turmoil are various factions looking to manipulate the public by twisting public opinion of augmentation to further their own agenda and hide the truth of what really happened.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided also continues the story of Adam Jensen, a former biotech company security chief turned super-augmented, anti-terrorist agent playing by his own rules. Jensen has been empowered with all new augmentations, enabling him and the player a greater sense of self-control as they explore all new locations in-game. As social and political tensions reach a major turning point, Jensen and conspiracies surrounding the Illuminati continue toward an inevitable crossroads … and possibly, an epic showdown.

I was a huge fan of Human Revolution, and Deus Ex before it (Invisible War… not so much), so you better believe I’m excited to learn more about Mankind Divided. The just-released announcement trailer looks cool, but it does little to excite me. It’s entirely CGI, and if the series’ last game is any indication, the game likely won’t look like this.

Square-Enix also notes that “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will also mark a new era in Eidos-Montréal’s technology, utilizing the advanced visual and immersive capabilities of the Dawn Engine™, specifically built for the recent generation of consoles and PC. Under the umbrella of the Gaming Evolved program, AMD and Eidos-Montréal have been collaborating on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and the game will feature Microsoft’s DirectX® 12 support as well as AMD’s TressFX™. These features will not only raise the bar in game performance but bring unrivalled visual fidelity to the Deus Ex franchise.”

So, it’ll be very pretty. But I still doubt it’ll be as pretty as this trailer is. Take a look below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Fans of American Horror Story were beyond disappointed to learn that longtime leading lady Jessica Lange would not be a part of its upcoming season.

Today, fans should be feeling decidedly happier, as Kathy Bates, who has done a phenomenal job in the series since Coven, will be returning for Hotel.

Ryan Murphy announced the news via twitter, simply stating that “Kathy Bates is running the Hotel.”

American Horror Story: Hotel is set to debut this Fall. Which season has been your favourite so far?

Briefly: Following the final trailer from a few days back, Marvel has just debuted a stellar new featurette for next month’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The video features interviews with much of the film’s cast, talking about the current dynamic of the group and who may step up as leader when crisis calls. It also happens to feature a ton of new footage, so if you feel as though you’ve already seen too much of the film, you’ll probably want to avoid it.

For everyone else, you can take a look at the new featurette below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st!

Briefly: This, I did not expect.

Celebrated developer Level-5 has revealed the next games in the Professor Layton and Fantasy Life franchises… and they’re headed to smartphones.

The announcement was made during last night’s Level-5 Vision 2015 event, with both games set to launch on Japanese devices this Summer. As noted by SiliconeraFantasy Life 2 “is similar to the previous title, as it features 12 Lifes, and a new “Village” feature, where you’ll collect villagers. The game has more of a Sim vibe going on, where you’ll build the city, and will have a larger room to build this time.”

FantasyLife2

Little information was revealed about Layton 7, aside from its Summer release window. The game sounds vastly different from previous Layton titles, and “involves cards and fortunetelling, where players will have to use their wits and skills to figure out who the “Vampire” is.”

A 3DS version was not mentioned for either title.

Layton7

Are you interested in these new titles? Or do they sound too different from the franchises that we already know and love? Sound out below!

Briefly: Back in March, Eric noted that Captain America: The Winter Soldier and upcoming Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo were expected to direct the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.

Today, Marvel gave the official announcement:

As anticipation and excitement build to a fever pitch for Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the blockbuster sequel to the third-largest movie of all time, Marvel is proud to announce Joe and Anthony Russo will join the franchise as the directors of Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” and “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.”

The Russo brothers first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” one of the top-grossing film’s from 2014, and are currently preparing to shoot Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.” The third film in the Captain America franchise will bring the classic storyline from the comics to life pitting Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as introducing Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Chadwick Boseman ahead of his own film later in Phase 3.

Before stepping behind the camera for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War,” the Russo brothers served as Executive Producers and directors for many TV series, including “Community” and “Happy Endings.” Joe and Anthony earned a Primetime Emmy award for their work directing the pilot episode of the cult-hit “Arrested Development” series. Their film debut was “Welcome to Collinwood”, produced by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney.

I was a big fan of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (especially compared to other Phase Two films Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World), and so I’m definitely down for more Russo. They also directed some of the best episodes of Community however, so hopefully being Marvel’s new favourites doesn’t take up all of their time.

Russo2

Briefly: Late last month we saw our first cast photo from NBC’s Heroes Reborn, and today we received word that another fan favourite character from the original series will reprise his role in the upcoming reboot.

Deadline has learned that Jimmy Jean-Louis will again portray The Haitian in the series. His character appeared in all four seasons of Heroes, and work alongside Jack Coleman’s Noah Bennett. The Haitian held the ability to erase memories, and it was a power that was used often in the original show.

Little (nothing) is known about the plot of Heroes Reborn at this point, but the Tim Kring produced series is slated to launch this Fall.

Are you looking forward to Heroes Reborn? Or did the final act of the original series turn you off this world forever? Sound out below!

Briefly: It seems crazy, it being 2015 and all, but for some strange reason, the Star Wars saga has never (legally) been available on digital platforms.

This is all set to change this Friday, April 10th, when the entire saga (in all of its Special Edition glory) will debut on on digital platforms globally. All six films will be available, and they’re also set to include a batch of brand new extras.

Here’s the announcement from StarWars.com:

The Star Wars films will soon become more powerful than you can possibly imagine: the classic series is going digital for the first time ever.

As anticipation builds for the December release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first new film in the Star Wars saga in a decade, The Walt Disney Studios, Lucasfilm Ltd., and 20th Century Fox today announced the upcoming release of The Star Wars Digital Movie Collection. All six epic films in the saga, from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi, will be available on Digital HD globally beginning Friday, April 10.

“Since the debut of the first film nearly 40 years ago, Star Wars has become a worldwide phenomenon with legions of fans from every generation,” said Alan Bergman, president, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s only fitting that audiences enjoy this legendary saga and its many fascinating behind-the-scenes stories on a wide variety of platforms, and we’re very excited to finally bring all six films to Digital HD for the first time.”

“We’re thrilled that fans will be able to enjoy the Star Wars saga on their digital devices wherever they go,” commented Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “These films broke new ground in technology, design, sound, and visual effects, and we’ve created some very special bonus material which delves into the saga’s rich history, including new and never-before-released conversations between legendary Star Wars artists — the masters who helped George bring his iconic universe to life.”

With Star Wars: Episodes I-VI available for purchase as a complete digital movie collection and individually, viewers will have the Rebel forces at their beck and call across their favorite devices anywhere — sunbathing at the beach, relaxing in their living room with friends, or waiting to board a flight to Endor (or elsewhere).

Plus, unlike Lando’s bargaining with Darth Vader, this deal is getting better all the time: Enhancing the movie collection are a host of never-before-seen special features including Star Wars: Discoveries from Inside and insightful Conversations between key contributors from across this celebrated film franchise, plus a curated collection of classic Star Wars extras from each film.

And a trailer for the upcoming collection:

It’s been some time since I’ve watched through the entire saga, and I haven’t owned it since it first released on DVD, so I could definitely see myself picking up this collection on iTunes. Will you be picking up the saga in its new, non-physical format? Sound out below!

Briefly: We’re finally just a few weeks away from the release of what has to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and what has to end up as one of the most successful films of the year, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After releasing almost as many trailers as there are Avengers, the final trailer for the film finally hit the web today. It features a bunch of new footage, a bit more creepy Ultron, and dives a little deeper into Black Widow.

You can take a look at the final trailer below, and as always, be sure to let us know just how excited you are to line up on May 1st!

GeekscapeTV is back, with one of its most hilarious and too-close-to-home shorts yet.

Many of us Geekscapists (along with what seems like everyone in North America), have become beyond addicted to the Amiibo hunt. Once pre-orders for a new wave or figure go dry, we’re forced to scour store after store in search of the Amiibo needed to complete our collections. We wish we could live in a world (or a continent) where supply met demand for these interactive children’s toys, but while us North Americans live in the land of opportunity, our home is also the land of Amiibo drought.

Sometimes, we’re forced to exploit shadier methods to attain the rarest of the rare, and more often than not, the transactions look a little like this:

We sure hope that Nintendo stops Trap Teamin’ us sometime in the near future, because the Amiibopocalype seems more and more likely with each and every passing wave.

Just remember, folks. This ain’t no Casa de Shades.

Briefly: I’m a huge fan of Mario Kart 8. It was the first entry in the series that I spent a substantial amount of time with, and it’s a game that I continue to frequently play with friends to this day. I’ve probably put more hours into Mario Kart 8 than any other game I’ve ever played.

That being said, for players like me, the game is freaking easy. Every Mario Kart title has offered 50, 100, and 150cc difficulties, and once you’ve put enough time into the game, even 150cc mode will have you feeling like you’re playing by yourself.

Today, on April 1st of all days, Nintendo announced a new, free 200cc mode to launch alongside the game’s second DLC pack. Take a look at the fast-as-hell trailer below:

That is fast, and I really can’t wait to get my hands on it. Each cc mode vastly raises the amount of skill needed to beat each of the game’s cups. I can’t even imagine what 200cc will bring, but it’s pretty clear from the above video that it won’t be easy.

The free update will arrive on April 23rd, which is also the new release date of the game’s second DLC pack (it was originally slated for May). Nintendo today also showed off an Animal Crossing stage from the upcoming DLC pack, and it’s just as cute as you’d imagine. You can take a look at the DLC video below, and let us know if you’re excited!

Emerald City Comicon has come and gone, and along with 80,000 eager geeks, hundreds of extremely talented cosplayers descended on the Washington State Convention Centre.

I had a blast talking to some of the costumers throughout the weekend, and the ECCC Cosplay contest featured some of the best cosplays that I’d ever seen. I took a few photos of the costumes I saw at the convention, so take a look below, and let us know which one is your favourite!

It’s hard to see in the photo, but that Halo 4 baddie was too big to fit on the stage!

Just before Emerald City Comicon brought thousands upon thousands of geeks upon Seattle’s Washington State Convention Centre, Legendary Comics announced three new series, including a book in the Pacific Rim universe (read my interview with writer Joshua Fialkov here), and two new IP’s.

One of the new books, Black Bag, is written by iZombie and Cinderella alum Chris Roberson. I had the opportunity to spend a few minutes with Chris at Legendary’s Emerald City booth this past weekend.

Derek: Black Bag, of course, was just announced. Why don’t you start by telling me a little big about it?

Chris: Black Bag is about a bored, I hate the word housewife, but she’s a housewife. A suburb wife, who’s subordinated her own ambitions to her husband’s since college. She becomes dissatisfied and realizes that it’s not enough for her, and gets the opportunity to go and be a super-spy for the government. Which she does, but of course doesn’t tell her husband about it, so she ends up leading a bit of a double life as a wife of the partner of a law firm, while at the same time heading to other countries to kill bad people.

D: So it holds kind of a Mr. and Mrs. Smith feeling? Without the Mr. of course?

Kind of, yeah. Or a True Lies vibe and other stuff like that.

D: How did Black Bag come to exist?

C: Bob Schreck from Legendary called me up. It was a Thomas Tull idea, so one that originated within the company. They were looking for somebody to flesh it out, and female super-spies is in my wheelhouse. I did Cinderella for Vertigo in the Fables universe, so I was happy to come on board and help out.

D: So how will Black Bag compare to your work on Cinderella?

C: It’ll have a similar vibe. Again as much as I hate housewife as a term, I also hate strong female protagonist as a term, but that’s kind of what she is. She’s a kick-ass lady, and my entire life I’ve been surrounded by kick-ass ladies, so I kind of know what they’re like.

D: How has working with Legendary Comics as opposed to your traditional publishers?

C: For me it’s all about the personal direct relationships, and I’ve known Bob Schreck for years and he’s one of the smartest people in comics, and he was my editor, so I have zero complaints. It was great.

D: In terms of the great art for the book, did you have a hand in choosing your artist? Or how did J.B. come on board?

C: I definitely had a voice. In every stage of the process, they would send me samples from artists that they were considering, and it was like I had a vote. I wasn’t selecting the candidates, but I had an up or down vote as to whether I thought they would be a good fit or not.

D: Black Bag is your first work with Legendary Comics, do you plan to continue with the company, or with Black Bag, in the future?

C: As long as their checks continue to clear, I’m definitely interested!

D: Awesome. The book looks great, and I can’t wait to read it! Thanks for your time!

Black Bag is set to launch its first issue this Fall, and it sounds really cool. You can take a look at a preview page from the book below, and be sure to let us know if you plan to pick it up!

This past weekend at Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon, I had the opportunity to have a fantastic conversation with the writer of the just-announced Pacific Rim comic seriesTales From The Drift. Joshua Fialkov is best known for series like Echoes, Elk’s Run, I, Vampire, The Bunker, and The Life After. As a huge fan of Pacific Rim and the world that Guillermo Del Toro, Travis Beacham, and cast/crew have created, I was already looking forward to the new series. After talking with Joshua, my anticipation has skyrocketed, and the November release can’t come soon enough.

Read on for our conversation, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for the book!

Derek: Why don’t you start off by telling me a little bit about Tales From The Drift. Obviously the book was just announced, and it’s pretty freaking exciting.

Joshua: It is very exciting. I’m a huge Pacific Rim nerd. I love it, and when I went in for the meeting – I haven’t told this to anyone yet so you’re actually getting original material here– when I went in for the meeting at Legendary I didn’t know what I was going in for, but the first words out of my mouth when I sat down were “If you guys want to do more Pacific Rim comics, I’ll do it for toys.”

D: And now that’s how they’re paying you, right?

J: Nah, they are actually paying me money. I did get some toys. Not all the toys though. I still want more toys. If I do more I’m going to work that in. I want the 18-inch ones because oh-my-god they’re so cool.

But yeah, it’s set in the world of Pacific Rim. It’s very much it’s own story though, so if you just want to read an awesome story about robots fighting giant monsters you can totally go there. Also it shines new light on what you’ve seen in the movies. There might even be hints for things to come. It’s set after Tales From Year Zero but before the events of the movie.

D: So it sounds like you’re a huge fan of the film. Of course, it didn’t perform as well around here as many of us were hoping, what do you think about that?

J: I think that eventually it did [alright]. That’s the thing about great stuff. It always finds an audience, even if it didn’t at the time. That’s the great thing about Legendary is that they really believe in their work. They believe in what they’re doing and they stand behind it.

D: On that note, how does it feel to work with Legendary Comics as opposed to your traditional publishers?

J: Between the two Bobs (Napton and Schreck), like that’s 25 years of publishing experience right there, maybe even each. They have a ton of experience in comics, like Bob [Napton]’s been in comics since Image formed, and Schreck worked at Dark Horse and helped found Oni, so you definitely have these guys that really know the business and how this stuff works, so that side of it’s kind of covered. Creatively, they’re super great to work with. They love their properties, and they understand them, and they understand what’s cool about them. You get to just tell these stories that are compelling and fun and you don’t have to worry about approval or crossing over with other people’s stories because it’s one world, there’s one guy on top of that world and that guy is involved and loves everything that he’s working on. Guillermo [Del Toro] has so much passion for the franchise that he’s heavily involved and wants to make sure everything helps craft it into the property he always wanted it to be.

D: Have you been working directly with Travis [Beacham] and Guillermo in developing the book?

J: The story was actually written by Travis, and then we sat down with Guillermo and had a long conversation about the look and the feel and some of the specifics. It’s incredible, because that guy, for all the things he’s working on, had minutia level of detail of the franchise and of what he’s doing and what his plans are. It’s actually been great because you’re talking to the guy who decides as opposed to the committee who decides or the random people who don’t really have an opinion. It’s literally the guy who loves it more than anything on Earth that tells you what you need to know.

D: Stepping back a bit, I know that you loved the film, but what were your impressions of Tales From Year Zero?

J: That’s a weird question. What do you want from me? [raises voice] I though it was delightful. No, it was really good. One of the things that we talked about and one of the reasons I think they hired me is that I’ve done tons of “tie-in media”, but the stuff that I do tends not to feel like tie-in media. I really focus on how to make the story as compelling, and as important as possible. Part of doing that is about raising the stakes and part of doing that is about making the characters compelling enough to stand on their own. One of the things that we talked about, and one of the things that was important to me is that you don’t need to know anything about Pacific Rim to enjoy the comic, especially if you like giant robots or giant monsters.

D: Will we see Stacker Pentecost in the book? And how many times will he cancel the apocalypse?

J: [laughs] We did cancel the apocalypse. It was coming and I said “No, we’re good. Don’t worry about it, maybe later.” No, you might. There’ll be multiple characters from the movie showing up.

D: Obviously you’ve got quite the varied bibliography. After dealing with things like tumours, schizophrenics, murder mysteries, vampires, and more, how do you transition to writing giant robots versus monsters?

J: It’s actually all the same. It sounds funny, but it’s all about– and one of the reasons that I like Pacific Rim so much is that I tend to write about the damage that we do to ourselves. So much of the technology side of Pacific Rim is about that, right. Whether it’s literally within the drift, where you’re your own worst enemy, which we all are so it’s not science-fiction but truth, to even the ecological stuff. All those things have a grounding that’s very human and very real so it’s not that different, but you also get that part where the giant monsters fight the robots.

D: So Tales From The Drift is a standalone four issues. Is open to more afterwards?

J: I hope so. I’d love to continue.

D: And what do you hope to see from Pacific Rim 2?

J: I know like, a teeny-tiny amount about Pacific Rim 2, and it’s awesome. I think again, that Guillermo knows the story that he wants to tell, and it’s going to be so awesome.

Pacific Rim: Tales From The Drift will launch as a four-issue monthly series this November. Presented by Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro, and with a story by Pacific Rim creator Travis Beacham, Tales From The Drift is written by Joshua Fialkov (The Bunker, I, Vampire, Elk’s Run) and features artwork by Marcos Marz (Batman Confidential, Blackest Night: JSA). The book will also feature Jaegers never before seen in combat, squaring off against all-new Kaiju creatures. Legendary Comics has debuted two preview pages from the upcoming book, and the both look gorgeous. Take a look below!

Breaking: Last month, Marvel and Sony announced a groundbreaking new partnership that would (again) see a reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise, but more importantly, would officially allow the character to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It was quickly revealed that Andrew Garfield would not be reprising his Peter Parker role in the new series, and the internet has run rampant with speculation of who we’d next see don the blue and red suit ever since.

We can all stop that speculation now, as Sony has just revealed who they’ve chosen for the role. No, it’s not Donald Glover, and he won’t be playing Miles Morales. The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs (Carl, duh) will play Peter Parker / Spider-Man beginning in Captain America: Civil War.

It’s certainly an interesting choice, and certainly not one I’d ever predict. He’s young (16), which I like, and he’s awkward as hell, so he’s already got a one-up on Andrew Garfield (at least as far as Peter Parker goes). I’ll admit that I was initially baffled at the decision, but then I remembered that we shouldn’t hate on this stuff until we actually see what it looks like. Peter Parker is an awkward teenage nerd who isn’t particularly good looking, and Chandler fits right into that description.

Here’s the press release:

After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, Chandler Riggs has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings into the Marvel Universe with the release of Captain America: Civil War on May 6th, 2016. Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and newly appointed chairman of Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman.

Today’s announcement culminates what has been one of the most eagerly anticipated casting announcements in recent memory. Bloggers, pop culture speculators, and everyday fans have pored over and analyzed every conceivable online rumor in an attempt to discover the identity of the actor to play Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Riggs will immediately begin preparing for the coveted role.

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

Commenting on the announcement, Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios said, “Spider-Man is a classic superhero — a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Chandler Riggs. From the first time we saw him in The Walking Dead, to his glorious screen test which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker.”

Producer Avi Arad added, “I’m incredibly excited about Chandler Riggs. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

Producer Laura Ziskin said, “We are thrilled to have Chandler Riggs for this new incarnation of Spider-Man. We were fortunate enough to meet with a group of fantastically talented young men, and in the end, we all agreed that in addition to being an extraordinary actor, Chandler had the right mix of humor, youth, and pathos, along with an underlying sense of strength and power necessary to bring Peter Parker and Spider-Man to life on screen.”

Kevin Feige added “We cannot wait to show you where Marvel and Sony plan to take this beloved character, and we’re ecstatic to show you Chandler in costume, and in motion, later this year.”

Are you down with this announcement? Is there another actor you’d have rather seen cast? And what does this mean for Carl on The Walking Dead? Sound out below!
