Briefly: Guardians of the Galaxy is awesome. A ton of you saw the movie this past weekend, and a lot of you probably saw it more than once (I’m definitely in that camp, and I’ll probably see it again before it leaves theatres).

Did you know that Star Lord’s ship, the Milano, is largely physical and doesn’t actually utilize a lot of CGI? At least on the inside, that is. In a very Cribs-esque video, Guardians star Chris Pratt shows us around the surprisingly detailed environment.

Take a look at the short video below, and let us know what you think! What was your favourite part of the film?

Nintendo held a fantastic new Direct Presentation last night. This time around, the video focussed on the upcoming Hyrule Warriors, which will hit stores on September 26th, and should be very different from any game we’ve played starring these classic characters before.

If you’re interested, you can watch the entire direct in the player below… Or you can read further for all of the info conveyed in the presentation.

Here’s the gist of everything that Nintendo talked about during the presentation:

Adventure Mode: Players are faced with a grid of challenges that looks like the map from The Legend of Zelda on NES. Completing each challenge unlocks a new region of the map, and with it, a new level of Adventure Mode. Certain characters and weapons can only be unlocked in Adventure Mode.

-Costumes: Club Nintendo members who buy and register Hyrule Warriors within four weeks of launch will receive a set of alternate Ganondorf costumes as free in-game downloadable content. More details will be made available on http://club.nintendo.com. For certain other characters, Nintendo will make downloadable alternate costumes available as pre-order bonuses from select retailers in North America. Nintendo will announce more information about how to get these cosmetic add-ons in the future.

-Playable Characters: In addition to Ganondorf, players can opt to play as various characters from The Legend of Zelda universe. Each character carries his or her own specialty weapons: Link (Hylian Sword), Princess Zelda (Rapier), Impa (Giant Blade), Midna (Shackle), Sheik (Harp), Agitha (Parasol), Darunia (Hammer), Princess Ruto (Zora Scale), Zant (Scimitar), Fi (Goddess Blade), Ghirahim (Demon Blade) and Lana (Book of Sorcery).

-Weapons: A Chain Chomp will make a guest appearance as a weapon. As the story advances, new weapons will become available to some characters, such as the Magic Rod for Link, the Baton for Zelda and Spear for Lana. Weapons have special abilities called Skills that increase attack damage, or perhaps increase the chance of finding Hearts. Filling the Focus Spirit magic gauge will temporarily increase a character’s abilities and help to mow down huge numbers of enemies. And Bombchus are back, just bigger and more explosive.

-Game Play: Players can level their characters up to increase HP and attack skill, or they can grab materials dropped by defeated monsters to craft Badges to increase a weapon’s number of attacks, create longer combos or extend Focus Spirit time.

-Co-Op Mode: Two players can play a local co-op match, with one player looking at the TV and the other looking at the Wii U GamePad controller. Single players can also play on the TV, or using only the GamePad in off-TV play.

-Locations: Players will face down hordes of enemies in familiar locations, such as Skyloft from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Lake Hylia from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Twilight Field from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Classic Zelda Elements: Players will recognize items from their favorite Zelda games, including bombs, arrows and a Hookshot. The game is filled with familiar Zelda staples, such as Cuccos, Rupees, Gold Skulltulas and plenty of grass cutting.

A lot of great stuff here, huh? I, for one, cannot wait to grab those costumes, and I absolutely love the idea of the multiplayer being split between the two screens.

A new trailer for the game also debuted last night, so take a look at it below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to Hyrule Warriors!

Briefly: Disney XD has just debuted the first seven minutes of their anticipated new series, Star Wars Rebels. The extended preview  does exactly what it intends to, and gets us excited as hell for what’s to come.

Starring a small band of heroes — Sabine, Kanan, Hera, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper — Star Wars Rebels is set in a time where the Empire rules through fear and shrouds the galaxy in darkness. This trailer offers many new glimpses at sequences from the show, including the starship Ghost chased by TIE Fighters; young Ezra watching as a Star Destroyer looms overhead; Stormtroopers marching; a zero-g fight between our heroes and Imperials; and Kanan, a secret Jedi, assembling his lightsaber and preparing for battle. It ends, however, with an Imperial officer reporting to the Inquisitor — the Empire’s Jedi hunter, seen and heard here for the first time. Star Wars Rebels takes place between Star Wars: Episode III and IV as the Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy and a rebellion begins to form. The series, executive produced by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman, is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD.

Here’s what Disney said about the preview:

In this special extended preview of Star Wars Rebels, the Empire arrives on Lothal — bringing tyranny with them. Imperials and stormtroopers establish an intimidating presence on the planet, enforcing strict new laws for trade and arresting citizens for expressing dissent of any kind. A young boy named Ezra, however, discovers that a mysterious group is attempting to steal cargo from the Empire. Intrigued, he tries to take it for himself – and ends up on the run from both Imperials and this small band of rebels.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Stoney Lake Entertainment has finally debuted the full trailer for Left Behind, the end-of-the-world thriller that has Nicolas Cage flying a plane during the rapture. Yep.

The Left Behind book series consists of 16 books, and it has already sprung a trilogy of films starring Kirk Cameron. Honestly, I’m not familiar with the series at all, and this movie looks cheesy as hell, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to watch it. I mean, come on… it’s Nicolas Cage saving people from the rapture. And there’s no way it could be as bad as Knowing.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be checking this one out when it hits theatres on October 3rd.

Briefly: Captain America: The Winter Soldier is less than a month away from Blu-Ray, and Marvel has just officially debuted two deleted scenes from the release.

Cap 2 was a great watch when it hit theatres back in April, and I’m really looking forward to checking it out again. The Blu-Ray will hit stores on September 9th, and will include, Making-of Featurettes, Audio Commentary, Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes, Bloopers, And More…

Take a look at the scenes below, and let us know what you think!

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds Steve Rogers – aka Captain America – living quietly in Washington, DC, and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy – the Winter Soldier.

Briefly: Following the fantastic full trailer for the season that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, AMC has debuted a batch of new stills for the The Walking Dead‘s fifth season.

Back at Comic-Con, AMC revealed that the season will premiere on October 12th. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman revealed to the packed Hall H audience that “This is a season that is going to be pretty close to the comics.”

Our survivors are headed to Washington, and we can’t wait to see more. Take a look at the images below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Following the debut of the film’s bad-ass first trailer at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con (read the recap here, as the trailer hasn’t been officially released yet), 20th Century Fox has debuted a new image that compares Agent 47 star Rupert Friend to Agent 47 from the celebrated video game series (of which I’m definitely celebrating Hitman: Go right now..

It’s a great image that shows just how much care went into casting the character (or recasting, as Friend obtained the role after the tragic passing of Paul Walker back in November).

In any case, Friend looks great, the trailer featured some very cool action, and I really can’t wait to see more. Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think. Agent 47 blows its way into theatres on February 27th, 2015.

itmanComparison

Based on the top-selling, award-winning videogame franchise, “Hitman: Agent 47” is an all-new motion picture about an elite and genetically engineered assassin, known only by the last two digits – 47 – of a barcode tattooed on the back of his neck.

Briefly: This is totally weird, and absolutely amazing.

Fox Searchlight has just released the trailer for Birdman, a film that stars Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts. The movie “tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) — famous for portraying an iconic superhero — as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.”

So it’s Michael Keaton… portraying a washed-up actor that once played an iconic superhero. Yep.

The trailer is strange and wonderful, all at the same time, and I really can’t wait to see more. You can take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: Two days ago we debuted a brand new Geekscape episode in which Jonathan, Shane O’Hare, our new friend Stanley Wong and I talk about our experiences at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. For Jonathan and me, however, our geek spring break began one day earlier when we attended the world premiere of Marvel’s latest, Guardians of the Galaxy.

You can listen to the episode (in which I don’t really understand how a microphone works and am entirely too quiet throughout) for our full thoughts on the film, but you can also check out the video below to see just how much fun we had.

Jonathan is no stranger to selfies (my Facebook feed is constantly flooded with them), and he decided to go for some video selfies with the Guardians stars as well as some of the other celebrities walking down the red carpet. The results are pretty hilarious (especially the reaction from Elizabeth Henstridge).

Take a look at the video below, and be sure to subscribe and share if you enjoy it! We’ve got plenty more coming down the pipeline, so stay tuned!

Looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy? Sound out below!

If you were a comic fan, and more than a few years old in the mid-to-late 1990′s, you probably remember hearing about a little film called Superman Lives. The feature was set to be directed by (then arguably at his most popular) Tim Burton, written by Kevin Smith, and starring Nicolas Cage.

Production got to the point where filming was about to begin… and then it was gone. There have been plenty of different stories as to why, but in all honesty, nobody really knows.

Sure, it would have been weird (have you seen the leaked costume test), but that’s not to say it wouldn’t have been good. So what happened?

Early in 2013, director and Geekscape pal Jon Schnepp wanted to find out. He launched a successful Kickstarter campaign for the film, you can now watch the full trailer for the film that just debuted at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego.

http://youtu.be/Nt9fxWq5qg0

The film looks to be coming together very well, but as often happens, unforeseen circumstances have occurred, and more funds need to be raised. Schnepp has launched a new campaign at SupportSupermanLives.com. Here’s his explanation of the new campaign:

Dear Kickstarters,

I’d like to start by giving a SUPER THANK YOU to all 2,121 of my DOSLWH Kickstarter funders! Without your monetary input and creative support, I would never have even been able to start this Documentary, let alone get to where I’m at with the film now.

The trouble with some Kickstarters is the unseen, the unknown, the unexpected. I planned on making this film, and put the work in, but like many other Kickstarters, I did not allot enough money in my initial crowd sourcing goal for legal, for music, for image clearances, for travel and transport, for changing crews, for mailing out incentives, and most importantly, TIME. I did my best to estimate the projected cost of this documentary, but have since learned it was impossible to foresee some of the hurdles I’ve encountered.

I did not think it would take so long to make this documentary, but once I started to uncover more about this film and talked with the people involved in trying to bring it to life, the creativity and sparks just kept firing, and I realized that I needed to keep going. Could I have finished the film last year? YES, but would it be what it stands to be now? Not even close. I now have interviews running the gamut from Kevin Smith to Steve Johnson to Grant Morrison to Tim Burton himself. And patience is what has made each of these and ALL of the incredible interviews in the documentary possible.

So thank you all AGAIN for hanging in there with me throughout this process, and for understanding that although I did not make my ORIGINAL release date of winter 2013, ‘The Death of Superman Lives’: What Happened? will now be 1000 times better for the extra time, effort and expense put in.

I’m in need of your help now if you can give it. The last eight months have been full of incredible highs and unforeseen lows, and though I’ve gotten a ton of amazing interviews, in addition, I’ve had to contend with a slate of unexpected expenses including surprise medical bills, equipment repair fees, and various other unplanned costs.

The $103,000 that was originally raised for this project on Kickstarter last year (after Kickstarter/Amazon’s 10% was taken out), was $5000 over my initial $98,000 budget. With hindsight, this amount was roughly $75,000 under what I should have actually asked for. The eight months of additional time, on top of the above mentioned unanticipated costs, have left me in need of another wave of funding! Suffice to say, I’m in need of some crowd sourced super heroics from some of you!!!

I’ve come up with two new donation level rewards that I’m going to offer here first right now, and then expand it to the wider online web community next week. Once again, this offer will be exclusive to the 2,121 Kickstarters who helped me raise the initial money to get this doc on its feet, and will carry me 100% of the way to my newly extended finish line.

Before I officially launch my Finishing Fundraiser online, I’m first reaching out with this limited offer to all of you based on the overwhelming amount of emails I’ve received requesting higher donation tiers and additional rewards following the end of the Kickstarter last year. By going to my website, http://www.schneppzone.com/supermanlives/, and contributing the amount that you select below, you will be key players in reaching the Finishing Fundraiser goal I need to complete the film, AND I am offering some new fantastic rewards!!!

If you’re a regular ‘scapist, you probably recognize Schnepp’s name. Jon is of course a director and producer of Adult Swim’s Metalocalypseformer editor of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and director of the ‘W’ segment from The ABC’s of Death, and he’s also a good friend of Geekscape who we featured on the podcast for episodes 264, 311, and 318 (among other things).

Take a look at the new campaign’s video below, and you can head here to back the project! Are you looking forward to seeing the full feature? Sound out below!

Briefly: All last weekend we were hearing just how incredible the Interstellar trailer that debuted in Hall H was, and finally (a whole few days later) you can watch it yourself.

The trailer is chock-full of incredibly beautiful new footage, but the video certainly doesn’t diminish the mystery surrounding Christopher Nolan’s latest feature. We know that the Earth is dying, and that it’s up to this group to find a way to save the human race by attempting… well, interstellar travel, but we still don’t know the why’s of anything.

The video is also a tearjerker, and I’d expect the same from the full feature. McConaughey surely looks prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to right some wrongs with his broken family.

In any case, Interstellar looks gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see more. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Interstellar hits theatres on November 6th.

Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

Briefly: What an amazing world we live in.

I remember being little and hearing about the great video game crash of the 1980′s, complete with plenty of rumours that hundreds of thousands of copies of the game that caused it, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, were written off, crushed, and buried in a New Mexico landfill.

Turns out that the rumours were true, and earlier this year, Microsoft dug them up.

Why Microsoft? Well, they’re prepping a lot of cool sounding original content for the Xbox platform, including a documentary about the video game crash entitled Atari: Game Over. The documentary will premiere exclusively on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One this Fall.

The first trailer gives some amazing insight into what happened, and we are so excited to hear more. I haven’t powered on my Xbox One in a few months now, but this documentary will certainly get it warmed up again before Halo: The Master Chief Collection launches this November. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: I’m not overly familiar with the Mad Max series, but after seeing the first trailer for next year’s Mad Max: Fury Road, that’s something that I need to change fast.

Though the film features an entirely new cast, and though the last Mad Max film came five years before I was born in 1985, Fury Road will not act as a complete reboot, and will instead be set following the events of 1981’s Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

In the film, “Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.”

The trailer is gorgeous, action packed, and it instantly excited even a Mad Max virgin like myself. You can take a look at the near 3-minute trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Mad Max: Fury Road hits theatres on May 15, 2015!

“Mad Max: Fury Road”—the fourth in the franchise’s history—stars Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) in the title role, alongside Oscar winner Charlize Theron (“Monster,” “Prometheus”) as the Imperator, Furiosa. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (“Mad Max”, “Sleeping Beauty”) as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones (“Conan the Barbarian”) as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoë Kravitz (“Divergent”) plays Toast, Riley Keough (“Magic Mike”) is Capable, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”) is Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile, both of whom are making heir big screen debuts. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior. The cast is rounded out by well-known Australian actors John Howard and Richard Carter, supermodel Megan Gale, Angus Sampson, Joy Smithers, Gillian Jones, Melissa Jaffer and Melita Jurisic.

I still remember my very first McFarlane Toy. I was a wee lad of maybe seven or eight years old, and once day my dad came home with an incredible Spawn figure that held more detail than any other figure I’d ever owned. I was a huge Spawn fan at the time (much to the dismay of my mother), and I can still recall staying up way too late watching the animated series with my father.

It took me some time to realize why this first figure wasn’t infinitely posable, but once I did, I set it in its base and marvelled at its intricacies and wondered how a figure like this could have been so perfectly pulled out of the comic book. Then a year or so later I received a Violator figure and it scared the hell out of me to the point where it had to be put away at night.

I can't wait to see stop-motion created with these.
I can’t wait to see stop-motion created with these.

I still have that Spawn figure displayed on my desk. That being said, I haven’t purchased anything resembling a toy in years, but later this year I’m afraid I’ll be going flat broke, both on Nintendo’s Amiibo’s (which I finally saw in person at SDCC), and then on the just-announced McFarlane Building Sets, which take the idea of a Lego style buildable, customizable playset, except that once it’s built, it no longer looks like a pile of bricks.

I had peeked a few images of the cool-looking building sets, but once I saw these The Walking Dead sets in person and had the awesome opportunity of listening to McFarlane passionately talking about the idea and how he came up with then, I knew that he had an absolute winner, and I knew that I’d be shelling out a lot of money on it.

Tower

As with all McFarlane Toys, the detail in each and every one of these pieces and hand-painted figures is impossible. On getting into the building toy business, Todd stated that “it’s the same reason why 20 years ago I got into the action figure business. They [toy companies] keep leaving gaps for guys like me, and the gap here is art. They’ve got the functionality down, but 20 years ago when I walked down that aisle, I asked a simple question and it was why can’t they just look cooler? That started my company. Just I don’t understand why that can’t look cooler. It’s just plastic, it doesn’t have any intelligence, it’ll go into whatever shape you put it in. Why they choose to not put it into realistic and highly detailed shapes? I don’t know, go ask them after we finish this conversation. We’ve won a lot of awards for our realistic sports figures, and the question that you guys from the media keep asking me is “Todd, how do you keep making your sports figures so realistic” but that’s the wrong question. The question should be “how for 40 years could they not?”

That was a mind-blowing, and incredibly powerful thing to hear. Just about as mind-blowing as these figures, which when assembled, look phenomenal and not-at-all like they came out of a building block set.

Chopper

As mentioned, the McFarlane Building Sets will begin with products based on AMC’s The Walking Dead, though McFarlane said that they are actively exploring other IP’s as well. The first sets will launch this Fall, and be a Toys R’ Us exclusive until 2015, after which the floodgates will open and they’ll go international too.

I cannot wait to get my hands on all of these.

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is almost here. With its fast approaching release date comes a new Red-Band trailer for the anticipated sequel.

I still remember being a 15 year old kid, absolutely falling in love with the first film, and being so excited when it was announced that a sequel would be put on the fast track. Now, it’s 9 years later, we’re finally close to seeing it.

Sin City had a huge presence at this year’s Comic-Con. The Petco Interactive Zone showed off some of the film’s gorgeous, classic cars (and an incredible racing simulator inside an actual Dodge Charger). Thursday night also held an incredible Sin City themed party on the roof of the Hard Rock Hotel (complete with Sin City clad Suicide Girls, pieces of the film being projected into pools, an awesome photo booth, and more), and while there I had the opportunity to chat with Kevin Smith, Doug Jones, Daughtry, Michael Rooker, and a myriad of other individuals that I never imagined I’d see in person (though strangely, none of the film’s cast made it).

Photobooth
Yep… That’s me.

In any case, this new (lengthy) trailer is great, and it definitely gets me excited for the upcoming film. While I worry slightly about the choice to include three new stories instead of utilizing existing material, I’m hopeful that everything will turn out well.

You can take a look at the new trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theatres on August 22nd!

http://youtu.be/jDW3r-yIKHU

Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning “Sin City” graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.

Briefly: San Diego Comic-Con 2014 is over, and we’re finally back home and ready to show you everything that we did, and fill you in on everything that we saw this past week.

First up, the fantastic full trailer for the next season of The Walking Dead.

Along with the trailer, AMC revealed that the season will premiere on October 12th. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman revealed to the packed Hall H audience that “This is a season that is going to be pretty close to the comics.”

So our survivors are headed to Washington, and we can’t wait. Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

All of us at Geekscape are having an incredible time at 2014’s San Diego Comic-Con, and we really can’t wait to show you all that we’ve been up to, and share all of the news that’s been coming out of the busiest place (currently) in the United States.

All of our schedules are jam-packed, but I’m currently waiting on lunch at the Gaslamp District’s wonderful Whiskey Girl, and wanted to take a few minutes to share some thoughts on a game that I just played, and instantly fell in love with: Hitman: Sniper.

SNIPER_RedCarpet_1401975805

The game describes itself as “a brand new competitive sniper game with numerous levels full of creative opportunities to manipulate guards, the environment, and targets to complete the hit.” Just as with the phenomenal Hitman: Go (which I also just played for the first time and will be sinking countless hours into as soon as I get back from SDCC), Square-Enix Montreal has designed Sniper from the ground-up with touch in mind instead of trying to cram a console classic into a convoluted, virtual joystick and faux-button clad mess.

The game is meant to be extremely accessible, and is even playable one-handed. The Square-Enix employee demoing the game to us even asked us not to hold the iPad like a console controller, as those conventions were never meant for mobile and rarely (if ever) work. To play, you simply drag a finger around the screen to pan your rifle, pinch to zoom in and out, just like you would in the iPad’s native Photos app, and a quick tap of the screen will fire your round. You’ll see a few buttons around the edge of the device, including reload, a few weapon mods and power-ups, as well as a ‘Hold-Breath’ button which will slow down time to ensure the most accurate shot possible.

SNIPER_Jacuzzi_1401975802

While your vantage point is far, far away from the action, the maps are designed with many different kill options for nearly each enemy. Sure, you could just shoot the dude, but wouldn’t you prefer to get him away from everyone else and take him out silently? Or get two enemies lined up so you can take them out with a single bullet? Or shoot out the glass your enemy is leaning on and have him land on another baddie below? The variance here is absolutely astounding, and was far beyond what I expected when picking up the tablet and firing my first shot.

While mainly single-player, Hitman: Sniper also features some addictive competitive aspects. Every thing that you do, and every shot that you take, earns you points and multipliers that attribute to your final score. Instead of simply showing you a leader board of the very best players, you’ll also see a board of the people surrounding you. This means that you’ll always know just how many points you’ll need to climb up the next rung of the ladder, but it’s up to you to figure out the best way to do it.

SNIPER_Vista_1401975809

Overall, I was very impressed with the demo. The game will launch as a free-to-play (but not content-locked) title on iOS and Android devices this holiday season. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more about Hitman: Sniper, but in the meantime, be sure to check out Hitman: Go, as it definitely ranks as one of the most impressive mobile games I’ve seen in some time.

San Diego Comic-Con is a blast, isn’t it?

We’re in the midst of the convention’s second full day, and after checking out most of the floor and a lot of the offsite events (look for more on those later), the Legendary Entertainment booth is without a doubt one of the coolest experiences of the con (just like last year).

This year, instead of a gigantic warehouse, Legendary is showing off its talent by creating a mind-blowing experience in a tiny space. This consists of two events: the Crimson Peak Gothic Gallery and Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot.

The Crimson Peak Gothic Gallery is a physical experience handcrafted by Guillermo del Toro himself, fans will get a glimpse behind the curtain of Crimson Peak and an early tease of the ultimate haunted house. Designed in the look of one of the sets of the movie, the Gothic Gallery is a living breathing gallery of curiosities that includes props, costumes, and an atmospheric soundscape designed by Academy Award®Winner Randy Thom.

LEGENDARY_CP_IMAGE2

I had the amazing opportunity to be taken through the gallery by Guillermo Del Toro himself, and hearing him describe the art,  intricacies, and incredible design of the Gothic Gallery and the film’s mansion and props made me incredibly excited for a movie that we still don’t know a lot about. Del Toro wrote Crimson Peak over eight years ago, and after speaking with Del Toro about the film, I’m beyond sure that it will be worth the wait. He did say that we’ll see a teaser at the Legendary Entertainment panel on Saturday, so hopefully it’ll release online afterwards!

Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot is the next evolution of the thrilling universe Legendary is creating with director Guillermo del Toro. Created by the leading pioneers of virtual reality, Oculus VR, the attraction delivers a new benchmark in virtual reality experiences as fans will step into a fully-realized Jaeger Combat Simulator and experience what it feels like to pilot a 250-story robot. Created with original film assets from Industrial Light & Magic and developed within Unreal Engine 4, Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot provides a thrilling first-person battle between Gipsy Danger and the kaiju codenamed Knifehead.

LEGENDARY_PR_1
Jaeger Pilot was my first Oculus Rift experience, and it was freaking incredible. I’d seen countless videos of people freaking out on the roller coaster and other demos, but I had no idea just how truly immersive VR could be until I stepped inside a Jaeger. This was an experience that I could do again and again (and again), and not tire of. It’s tough to describe the feeling, but after removing the Oculus headset it was crystal clear to me that VR is the future of interactive entertainment. With the Jaeger Pilot experience being so cool, so early on, I cannot wait to see what VR develops into.

The Legendary booth is #3920, and is right next to Geekscape. Here’s how you can get into the booth yourself:

Briefly: Luc Besson always puts together some fantastic films. Even if they aren’t always critically successful (I’m looking at you Hitman), at the end of the day he can direct, write and produce some very enjoyable films.

We’re eagerly awaiting Lucy’s release on July 25th (just a few more days away). Lucy is an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.

Because we’re so excited for the film, we jumped at the opportunity to offer fans an awesome Lucy giveaway. One lucky individual will receive a $50 prepaid Visa, plusLucy t-shirt and hat.

Briefly: There’s some crazy talent attached to this one!

Chop Shop centers on Porter (John Bregar), a car thief recently released from a five year stint in prison, who finds himself struggling to rekindle a relationship with his former girlfriend Sofia (Ana Ayora) and their five-year old son he hardly knows. Porter soon reconnects with his old partner in crime Caine (Rene Moran), who’s volatile and aggressive nature puts him at odds against Porter’s new life. Torn between family and friendships, Porter faces the most difficult decision of his life and realizes that to change his future he might have to relive his past.

The excellent 22-minute long premiere episode of the Machinima series hit the web earlier today. The series is six-episodes long, and a new chapter will release each Friday.

Elliott Lester (Blitz) directs the Bandito Brothers (Act Of Valor) and Joshua Weinstock produced series, alongside writers Josh Baizer and Marshall Johnson (Mortal Kombat: Legacy).  Series stars John Bregar (Being HumanKick Ass 2The Mentalist), Rene Moran (ShamelessLie to MeSwitched at Birth), Ana Ayora (Marley & MeCastle), and acclaimed actor Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment DayThe SopranosThe X-FilesTrue Blood).

From releases like Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist to Mortal Kombat: Legacy and now Chop Shop, I can’t wait to see what’s next from these guys! Take a look at the first episode of Chop Shop below, and let us know what you think!

This is very cool.

Subscription box services are all the rage right now, and Hero Chest sounds like a phenomenal option for comic book fans. If I didn’t reside in Canada, I’d definitely be subscribing to this one.

In their own words, “Hero Chest will be a curated subscription box that brings the comic shop experience to your doorstep each month. Our curators’ selections will be guided by years of comic experience and a passion for high quality comics. We want to send you titles you might not see featured in your local store or might have slipped under your radar. Most of all, we want to send you cool stuff to read! (And toys.)”

Hero

As a guy who only makes it into my LCS to pick up my pull list every month or two, I know that there’s a lot of cool stuff that I’m missing. Hero Chest could be a great way to expand my comic book horizons.

Each Hero Chest is set to contain:

– A recently released Trade Paperback (compilation of 6-10ish comic issues, usually of a single story arc in one place)
– 3 current comic books (issues) selected specifically for their quality of art and storytelling, significance and potential interestingness
– Monthly curation notes on the titles chosen for the box
– Fun surprises like t-shirts, stickers, toys, and collectibles
– And Kickstarter rewards include shipping and handling!

A beta box was put together and sent out to a few lucky Kickstarter backers, which Hero Chest has broken down on their official blog.

everythingfrombox

The Hero Chest Kickstarter campaign is a great way to get early access to what is sure to be a highly-successful product. Backers can receive access to three exclusive boxes, pick up year-long subscriptions (even for a friend), grab exclusive t-shirts, and much more.

You can head to the Kickstarter page or the official Hero Chest website for more info, and be sure to let us know if you’ll be backing this one!

Briefly: Well this certainly puts yesterday’s horror trailer to shame.

The October 3rd release and spinoff to 2013’s fabulous horror flick The Conjuring, takes us (further) back in time and into the history of the film’s terrifying titular doll.

The film is directed by John Leonetti, and stars Annabelle Wallis, Alfre Woodard, Eric Laden, and plenty of others. A synopsis is yet to be released, but Annabelle definitely marks one of the creepiest horror trailers I’ve seen in some time.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Another event that I really regret not attending at last year’s San Diego Comic Con was the Nintendo Gaming Lounge at the Marriot Marquis. Had I gone, I would have had the awesome opportunity to play games like Mario Kart 8 long before they came out, and also had a chance to win some great swag (like that limited edition Pikmin 3 shirt that I still think about).

I can’t wait to check things out this time around. Nintendo just announced their biggest presence ever for this year’s Comic Con, and it sounds like it’ll be an absolute blast. Here are the details:

Visitors will be able to enjoy hands-on time with Super Smash Bros. for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, as well as additional upcoming 2014 games like Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Add to this an exciting multiday stream of live game-play challenges on the Nintendo Twitch channel and a host of other fun activities, and you have Nintendo’s biggest presence at Comic-Con ever.

“Nintendo fans are going to have a great time with what we have planned for San Diego Comic-Con this year, whether they are attending the event or watching at home from across the country,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “From first hands-on opportunities to tournaments and a fun live stream, we want to make sure that everyone has a great time experiencing Nintendo at the show.”

Nintendo’s hub at San Diego Comic-Con will be located at the Nintendo Gaming Lounge on the first floor of the Marriott Marquis & Marina hotel, an area open to the general public, so even fans who don’t have a Comic-Con badge can get in on the fun. The playable games scheduled to appear include:

Nintendo 3DS

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS from Nintendo
Pokémon Art Academy from Nintendo
Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney from Nintendo
Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal from SEGA
THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY CURTAIN CALL from Square Enix, Inc.
Shovel Knight from Yacht Club Games (Nintendo eShop)
Siesta Fiesta from Mojo Bones Ltd. (Nintendo eShop)

Wii U

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U from Nintendo
Hyrule Warriors from Nintendo
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker from Nintendo
Yoshi’s Woolly World from Nintendo
Mario Kart 8 from Nintendo
Bayonetta 2 from Nintendo
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric from SEGA
Just Dance 2015 from Ubisoft
Skylanders Trap Team from Activision
Shovel Knight from Yacht Club Games (Nintendo eShop)
1001 Spikes from Nicalis (Nintendo eShop)
Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition from DrinkBox Studios (Nintendo eShop)

Visitors to the Nintendo Gaming Lounge will also be able to view a display of amiibo, figures modeled after Nintendo characters that will interact with compatible Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. A special area themed after Tomodachi Life will also be available, where visitors can recharge their minds, bodies and Nintendo 3DS systems. In addition to the Nintendo Gaming Lounge, Nintendo will have a booth at the San Diego Convention Center dedicated entirely to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

On July 25 and July 26, Nintendo will stream Nintendo Challenge Live, a stage show hosted from the Nintendo Gaming Lounge that features intense tournament competition and awesome game-play challenges from some of the hottest upcoming games on Nintendo platforms. Fans can open their browsers to http://www.twitch.tv/nintendo to catch all of the action and stick around for hours to soak in all the festivities.

Nintendo will be hosting its first-ever tournament for the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS game. Tournament slots are limited for the one-day event, and fans will be able to sign up the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis. The full tournament will be streamed at http://www.twitch.tv/nintendo. The tournament will be conducted using the E3 version of the game. This version represents a game still in development and may not represent the final quality and balance of the game, which launches on Oct. 3.

Mario Kart 8 is already one of the best-selling Wii U games of all time, and the love for the game and franchise will be well-represented at Comic-Con. Racers who visit the Nintendo Gaming Lounge will be able to compete in local Mario Kart 8 competitions. The bracket-style competitions will pit 32 players against each other. The winner of each local competition will then be invited to take on racers around the world using the online tournament feature of Mario Kart 8. Players at home can join the online tournaments with a chance to face off against the local champions. The online tournament codes and schedule will be announced via Nintendo’s social media channels in the future.

Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 aren’t the only franchises with unique activities at Comic-Con. Bayonetta fans will want to make sure they mark their calendars for a screening of the new animated film Bayonetta: Bloody Fate from FUNimation Entertainment. The stylized animated movie follows the powerful witch Bayonetta as she battles the forces of heaven to regain her memory. The feature film will screen Friday, July 25, at 9:35 p.m. PT in Marriott Hall Room 4 at the Marriott Marquis & Marina hotel. (A San Diego Comic-Con badge is required for entry.)

The Nintendo Gaming Lounge is located in the San Diego Ballroom on the first floor of the Marriott Marquis & Marina hotel at 333 W. Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA, 92101. The Nintendo Gaming Lounge will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. PT Thursday, July 24, to Saturday, July 26, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. PT Sunday, July 27. The Nintendo booth (No. 235) is located at the San Diego Convention Center at 111 W. Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA, 92101.

Will we be seeing you there?

Briefly: Following the episode’s first screenshots from last week, Telltale has let us know just when we’ll be able to play the next episode of The Walking Dead. Here are the details:

July 24th: Available as an in-app purchase within The Walking Dead: Season Two on the iOS App Store

A new trailer for the episode has also been released, so you can take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’re enjoying season two so far!

Briefly: After the series’ continuation was revealed back in April, Nintendo and Tecmo Koei have finally, finally revealed the next instalment in the celebrated Fatal Frame franchise.

Apparently, neither company is aware that Nintendo consoles are only for children (right?), because this game looks terrifying. The game is called Zero: Nuregarasu no Miko, which roughly translates to Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden.

The game sounds like it could be Fatal Frame‘s most terrifying iteration yet, as players will use the gamepad to control the series’ staple Camera Obscura.

Take a look at the first trailer below, and let us know what you think! The game will launch in Japan on September 27th. While a North American release date has not been revealed, we sure hope it’s announced soon.

Briefly: Sin City is almost here, and with it comes the final poster for the anticipated sequel.

I still remember being a 15 year old kid, absolutely falling in love with the first film, and being so excited when it was announced that a sequel would be put on the fast track. Now, it’s 9 years later, we’re finally close to seeing it.

Dimension has also detailed all of the SDCC activities and signings that they’ll be putting on to promote the film, and they all sound pretty damn cool. Here are the details:

SinCity

Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning “Sin City” graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.

Briefly: The long-awaited first trailer for board-game adaptation Ouija is finally here… and it doesn’t look nearly as bad as you’d expect.

Sure, the whole thing looks insanely generic, but it also looks pretty creepy. While I thought the Ouija segments in films like Paranormal Activity were very effective… I don’t know how it could be turned into an entire film.

In Ouija, a group of friends must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. Stiles White directs the supernatural thriller that is produced by Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (The Purge, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th) alongside Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series, The Purge), Bennett Schneir (Battleship) and Hasbro. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White wrote the script for Ouija, and Universal will distribute the film worldwide.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Ouija hits theatres October 24th!

Briefly: San Diego Comic-Con is fast approaching, and with it comes Entertainment Weekly’s annual Comic-Con Preview Issue.

This week’s cover features our first look at Ultron (well, Ultrons) in the film, as well as a slightly different suit for Cap. The first plot details for the film have also been revealed, so read all about Avengers: Age of Ultron via the excerpt below:

For better or worse (trust us, it’s worse), his Tony Stark has devised a plan that won’t require him to put on the Iron Man suit anymore, and should allow Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk to get some much needed R&R as well. His solution is Ultron, self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers instead.

The only problem? Ultron (played by James Spader through performance-capture technology) lacks the human touch, and his superior intellect quickly determines that life on Earth would go a lot smoother if he just got rid of Public Enemy No. 1: Human beings. “Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” Whedon says, rubbing his hands together.

So what do you think? How many minutes pass before Tony Stark is back in his suit?

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st, 2015.

Briefly: We still don’t know many details about Lionsgate and Saban’s recently announced Power Rangersbut we now know just who will write the script.

X-Men: First Class and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz will write the film, while Star Trek and Transformers screenwriter Robert Orci will help develop the story and executive produce.

We’ll be sure to fill you in as we learn more about the project, but as THR notes, the film will “completely re-envision the Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique superpowers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.”

Are you looking forward to the film? Anyone you would like to see take the role of a Ranger? Sound out below!
