Out of all the games shown during this years E3, I wanted to see coverage for Klei Entertainment’s new game, Mark of the Ninja. I wish more gaming press covered this instead of all the other titles EVERYONE covered ad nauseum.

I hope to get a closer look at Mark of the Ninja when it comes out on XBLA this summer. We will have to settle for some screenshots and a quick trailer for now.

Having all but 2 Skylanders figures left to collect, Activision and Toys for Bob decided that people like me need to have more things to collect. My poor wallet.

Wishing I was on the show floor at E3 2012, I have to settle for the press kit and Game Informer’s detailed preview. Coming in October, Skylanders: Giants will give the fans more to love. First thing, obviously, is more characters to collect.

There will be 8 Giant figures to collect that will have certain puzzles that only they can complete. Toys for Bob is also adding a new elemental power to the mix,  Light Core. Nothing is said yet as to what their powers will be like but hey, the figures will light up when put on the Portal of Power! Now I can have a desk lamp while playing Skylanders: Giants at night.

We will also see 8 new characters in the elemental power groups we are already use to be introduced. If that wasn’t enough, 24 Series 2 figures from all the loveable Skylanders you have collected already are coming. To make it worth picking up the same characters again, Toys for Bob made the Series 2 figures with new poses and all will have new upgrade paths to differ from their Series 1 counterparts.

Let’s not forget actual gameplay now. Toys for Bob is adding even more collectables and secret areas for the completionists. It won’t be easy this time around either, if you don’t want it to be, since the option for difficulty levels will be added as well.

So let’s count. 8 + 8 + 24 = 40 new Skylanders that we will all have to camp out at Toys R Us to wrestle out of some poor kids hands. At least we will still be able to use the original figures and level them up even further with the level cap being raised from 10 to 15. That should ease the pain of the insane prices you will see for the new Skylanders: Giants figures on eBay when the game comes out this October.

Game publisher Atlus has announced that Zeno Clash II, the sequel to the celebrated indie 1st person brawler, will be making its way to Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and Steam will be released in early 2013.

Even at the early stages of development, this beat em up looks gorgeous. It seems like punching people in the face will never have looked so pretty. Aside from graphics, plenty of new features have been added including lock-on abilities, pinpoint accuracy for where your attacks land and RPG elements that will help you create your fighter the way you want to.

But most importantly, the addition on online co-op will be what expands the possibilites of the game more than anything. Traversing the world of Zenozoik is promising to be enough of an experience as it is, so exploring it with a friend can only make it better, which is the goal the developers are trying to meet according to Andres Bordeu, co-founder of developer ACE Team.

“The world of Zenozoik is one of wild dreams and wilder nightmares. This is part of the reason we are working on Zeno Clash II, to give players the opportunity to explore Zenozoik with a friend via online cooperative multiplayer, turning those moments of wonder and awe into a shared adventure.  We will make certain that going back and forth between solo and cooperative play preserves the consistency and impact of the narrative experience, while still allowing friends easily drop in and out of the game’s fulfilling exploration and visceral melee combat.”

Keep a black eye out for Zeno Clash II early next year.

Mash ups in fighting games seem like all the rage right now, but has a famed fighting game developer like Arc System Works, (of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue fame,) come along and created a fighter based entirely around RPG characters? Well it’s happened with Persona 4 Arena, which brings characters from the third and fourth entries to do battle in a completely different type of arena.

As expected from Arc Systems, the game is fast paced with both movement and combo execution. With over a dozen different characters to choose from, an extra layer of strategy is added thanks to the addition of Personas. Two attack buttons control the fighter’s attacks while the last two cause the Persona to appear, creatures that temporarily fight alongside your character to extend attacks. The best part? The demo showed that Personas aren’t tied to particular fighters, so the combinations will feel endless. If there are any BlazBlue fans reading this, they felt a lot like controlling Nirvana with Carl Clover, except the Personas don’t have full movement.

Speaking of BlazBlue, you can tell it was a huge inspiration for Arena’s game play. Different parts of the fights from the special effects when super moves are used, the excamaition points that pop up when thrown or tripped, the completely outlandish fighting styles… all reminiscent of BB and Guilty Gear to a lesser extent. So if you’re fans of those games, is there really any doubt?

When I heard a Persona based fighting game was a thing, I was incredibly excited as both a fighting and RPG fan. After trying it at E3, my excitement has increased tenfold! Promising online, a story mode tying it to its RPG roots and expanding on the overall universe, fans of the cult favorite series are going to want to keep an eye out in August.

After years of speculation. After two remakes. After an appearence in a freakin fighting game! Pikmin 3 is finally… FINALLY announced, and it’s coming to the Wii U!

During Nintendo’s E3 conference, video game demigod Shigeru Miyamoto took the stage and went over the new details in this long awaited sequel. Using the motion controls, players will be able to aim Pikmin at specific spots on the enemies for added stretegic elements. Want to keep enemies from eating your new found friends? Bombard their eyes with Pikmin! And speaking of new Pikmin, Rock Pikmin were formally introduced, which seem to have the ability to destroy enemy armor and stone walls.

All of this destruction looks gorgeous with the new, updated graphics. Small things from breaking down walls to actually gathering materials to build bridges makes the world look more immersive. That’s great considering that playing with the Game Pad allows you to view the whole map at once. There’s a hell of a lot to explore, which is why players can swap between four different captains, each with their own Pikmin to command. Coming off like a more traditional RTS in this sense, covering multiple sections of the map at once looks like it will be the key to victory in this newest Pikmin expedition.

Overall, Pikmin 3 is looking like a bigger, prettier, more strategic game. Check back for hands on updates as we get more time with the game.

Many fighters have come and gone over the years, but ever since Virtua Fighter hit the ring and revolutionized 3D fighting games, its popularity has endured. Thanks to an incredible level of depth amongst its unique cast, while the game is known to be difficult to master, few games in the genre are as rewarding when all that practice pays off. After five games and multiple revisions, we’ve arrived at Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, the definitive version of the latest title in this beloved hard hitter. And while it makes some concessions compared to the retail version, this title’s value is hard to argue.

Jean Kujo and Taka-Arashi Join the Fight!

Featuring 19 unique fighters, (two of which are new to the US,) Virtua Fighter has plenty of moves to master between each character. From the easier fighters to master like siblings Jackie or Sara Bryant, to the technical marvels like flagship character Akira, there is sure to be a fighter to fit any gamer’s play style. The game has been reanimated and rebalanced since its last go around, so not only does it look prettier, but the moves look sharper, the damage output has been tweeked and the controls feel a little more forgiving as far as timing. But don’t pick up your pitchforks yet hardcore fans! The game still takes a ton of technical skill to be good at.

Virtua Fighter will help you get better though. And that’s through its many single player modes. Aside from the standard Arcade and Score Attack gauntlets, the Training Mode that VF4 made famous returns, which walks you through each fighter’s move set and slowly builds up your skill. Two modes that are obviously missing though are the single player tournament mode, which has been a staple of the series for years now and the ability to customize fighters. But then again, as a $15 download rather than a full retail release, it’s not surprising that something had to go. So now to build up ranks, instead of winning tournaments, a new License Mode gives players objectives to achieve during a series of fights. Clear these challenges, move up in rank. It’s as easy as that. As far as new costumes, there technically IS a way to dress up your fighters, but you’ll have to shell out extra cash for costume DLC.

Jackie and Sara Bryant Continue Their Rivalry... in HD!!!

Aside from the single player content, the bread and butter of competitive video games is its online component. Especially in a game like Virtua Fighter where timing is key, the slightest bit of lag can completely ruin a fight. Which is why I’m glad to say that my matches were almost completely lag free across ranked and player match. The new room match that adds lobbies to the fights surprisingly didn’t drop in quality either, even with a few different people waiting around. It’s good to see that Sega took this aspect of the game so seriously, especially with how bad lag is on certain big budget, full priced fighters.

So if you couldn’t tell from my glowing review, if you’re a fighting fan, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t own Virtua Fighter 5. The only question is whether or not it’s worth it if you own any of the previous versions. Well, how much value do you place on two new characters? How about the value of the final version of a fighting great that’s been balanced to near perfection? Not to mention that the online community is sure to receive a shot in the arm with this new release. If you absolutely have to be on top of the curve, there’s no question about it, but if you’re a more casual fan who’s perfectly happy with the previous games, there’s no urgent need for it either.

Akira Wants Some Pai...

But for the average gamer who doesn’t have a mock up arcade machine and a room plastered with Akira, Shenmue or Yu Suzuki posters, Final Showdown is still a blast to play. It might take some time to learn and undoubtedly has fewer modes than its predecessors, but the modes it does have will keep you busy for a long time. It moves fast, looks gorgeous and has 19 completely unique people to master. No clones, no similar movesets, nothing of the sort! And at $15 with what feels pretty close to a full retail experience, how can you go wrong? My only issues are the fewer modes and holding out on costumes to turn them into DLC but with the game being so cheap, some extra cash for bonus content is hard to be mad at. I’m incredibly hard pressed to find a reason not to recommend Final Showdown, and is easily one of the premier fighting games in the 3D genre. What else is there left to say? Jump online, download this game and lay a beat down on some mofos!

During Microsoft’s press conference, the previously announced South Park RPG got a shiny new trailer, compete with new details, features and of course, lots of hilarity.

Embarking on an an epic quest to save South Park, gamers will create their own character who will be the savior of the South Park universe. The short trailer already features plenty of nods to the show, including the Woodland Critters, the fake anime version of Professor Chaos and a gun toting Jesus Christ. Xbox gamers will finally be able to tell off Cartman with Kinect support, so if you want to trash talk your enemies in the foulest of ways possible while beating them down. South Park hasn’t had a very strong reputation when it comes to gaming, but this trailer had me genuinely laughing, and its release on March 5th can’t come soon enough.

But that’s not all, because THQ is planning additional content for the title, including the Mysterion Pack which will be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. Check out the press release detailing the content:

Rounding out the Good Times With Weapons Pack is the Samurai Costume. Show off your brute muscle with this bad-ass getup, complete with samurai headgear, a super-sweet cape, and the toughest cardboard armor this side of Takagawa.  Suit up, and prepare to unleash the ultimate pwnage!
THQ and Microsoft are proud to announce Xbox 360 exclusive pre-order items for South Park: The Stick of Truth: The Mysterion Superhero Pack. With your Superhero Costume, suit-up as the next South Park superhero!  It’s the perfect disguise for fighting your mortal enemies and keeping South Park safe!
Also, harness the elusive power of Mysterion with the Mysterion Special Attack!  South Park’s protector unleashes a deadly combination of stealth and firepower — your enemies won’t know what hit them!
Finally, slash the darkness with the diabolical switchblade, the Dagger of Cthulhu!  It’s the same weapon used to stab and kill Mysterion in the twisted classic episode “Mysterion Rises.”  And now… the fate of the Cult of Cthulhu lies in your hands!
  • South Park DLC on Xbox 360 First
The first three downloadable episode packs for South Park: The Stick of Truth will be available first on Xbox 360. These episodes are standalone adventures featuring their own stories, taking you to places in South Park you’ve never been before.

UPDATE: The teaser trailer has hit and here it is!

Capcom has just released their official new trailer for ‘Resident Evil 6’ from E3. This trailer is better than some movie trailers i’ve seen. All I can say after seeing this is… wow. We see plenty of new gameplay, exciting plot elements and new horrors to endure. Neo-Umbrella? Weskers son? Ada Wong? New B.O.W.’s? I’m sold.

Glad I pre-ordered the collectors edition.

‘Resident Evil 6’ returns to the horror October 2, 2012.

Courtesy of XBox we have your first look at  ‘Halo 4’ from E3.

The “Commissioning” Live-Action Trailer witness the unbridled optimism of the launch of the UNSC Infinity, then its crash as an ancient evil pulls it into a mysterious world where the Master Chief will begin an epic new Halo adventure.

Square Enix has released a new trailer showing off the many tunes of the rhythm/RPG hybrid, Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy.

Showing off a plethora of tunes throughout the history of the series, choosing between party members across each game and beating monsters to the music looks like more fun than it has any right to be. And with music as memorable and legendary as the Final Fantasy catalogue, chances are if you’ve ever thought of picking up an OST, this just might be the game for you.

Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer and comment about how right I was.

Kingdom Hearts will be back in the hands of gamers in only a few more months. With E3 upon us, Square Enix has given us another small taste of this highly anticipated game.

Almost one year ago, Capcom found itself at war with its fans when it cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 despite much demand. In fact, many would argue that the company itself was the first to fire shots when it blamed the fans for the cancellation, despite the fact that these same people were actively helping with development. When pressed on the issue, asking what more they could have done besides make the game for them, this is how Capcom famously replied via its Euro Twitter account:

As it turns out, there were plenty of developers outside of Capcom who were willing to continue with the making of the now infamous title, including CyberConnect and Mega Man father Kenji Inafune, with no response. In what would be later slaps in the face to fans of the Blue Bomber, Capcom even neglected to put Mega Man X in the re-release of Marvel vs Capcom 3, once again citing a lack of fan demand despite X leading all of the published fan polls, ahead of many of the characters who actually made the cut.

Obviously, fans weren’t happy, but there was one group who decided to do something about it. Taking a cue from fan movements such as Operation Rainfall, a Facebook movement titled 100,000 Strong for Bringing Back Mega Man Legends 3 emerged, quickly amassing tens of thousands of members to prove to Capcom that the game does have an audience, and at the very least, all these fans want is the Prototype version, a glorified paid demo that was designed to gague interest in the first place.

Well, it finally happened. A few weeks ago, the group hit their goal and as of this writing, have surpassed it with about 107,000 fans asking for the game they were promised. Gamers are still joining the Dev Room to prove that they will continue to participate. So now the ball is in Capcom’s court. Aside from Mega Man, the company that used to be known for pleasing fans by porting over risky titles in the West like Phoenix Wright, has done nothing to discourage their rage, especially after milking fans for finished content and charging extra money to download the ending to their games. Frankly, with their reputation sinking in the eyes of many gamers, now couldn’t be a more oppritune time to listen to the them.

The solution? Announce Mega Man Legends 3 at E3.

At this point, what choice do they have? Why not throw in Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright and MAYBE Ace Attorney Investigations 2 for good measure? I mean, look at it this way. Operation Rainfall, the community that banded together and demanded that Nintendo bring three titles to the North American Wii market, got their wishes answered when Xenoblade was released in April and The Last Story was announced for a summer release. Honestly, I’ll be shocked if Pandora’s Tower, the third title of this holy trinity, isn’t playable on the show floor.

Point being, if Nintendo can release three titles after receiving requests from a group of about 12,000, (which isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination,) it would be the ultimate in dickish moves for Capcom to ignore almost ten times the amount of people asking for the release of just ONE game. Hell, we’ll be happy with the Prototype which was supposed to have been finished already.

Since this series of controversies hit what was once one of my favorite developers, Capcom has all but lost me as a customer, and I know I’m not alone. E3 will be a turning point for the company and I’ll be eagerly anticiapting what they have to announce. Because going forward, this will shape the perception of a company that once prided itself on accepting fan interaction and feedback, but since then has backhanded us with broken promises, nickel and dime business practices and alienating those who are lining their pockets. So Capcom, do the right thing. Release Mega Man Legends 3. Because there are 100,000 people who want it… and many of which like myself will be done with you if we don’t get it.

Last week, the internet was set ablaze by rumors of a Star Fox and Metroid crossover being developed by Retro Studios. While gaming rumors are a dime a dozen around E3 season, considering the last time Retro was said to be working on a mystery game, those stories were true when the announcement of Donkey Kong Country Returns hit our ears with that sweet, sweet sound of confirmation. So let’s just say I had my hopes up to see the two series in the very capable hands of Retro while bringing some noteriety back to the Star Fox name.

Sadly, it’s apparently not meant to be.

Over at the Paul Gale Network where the news originally broke, the blog has updated its site with the following message:

“This game is not what Retro Studios is currently working on and it will not make an appearance at E3 next week. Now depending on what side of the fence you were on in regards to whether or not you wanted this game to be real is where this news might be personally good or bad to you. If you hated the idea, then rest assured that the game isn’t happening. If you liked the idea, then at least I can leave you with a bit of cushioning.”

Whether or not Retro is working on something else for the WiiU at E3 is yet to be seen. All I know is that we NEED a new Star Fox game after so long. The Nintendo 64 version collectively blew gamers away with its level design, game play and humorous voice acting, but has yet to reach such heights since, but I’m not sure pairing it with Metroid would make much sense. If Samus were to pair with anyone, it would be with another long forgotten franchise in F-Zero. I mean think about it, Captain Falcon is a bounty hunter. He has a ton of bad ass moves in Smash Brothers that he’s never shown off in his own series since he’s behind the wheel the whole time. Why not show how he would fare against another bounty hunter?

Even Star Fox would make sense pairing with F-Zero. Between a character named James  McCloud in both titles and a strong connection in some of the endings of Star Fox Command, The Lylat System might just be a furrier version of where the F-Zero Grand Prix takes place!

Regardless, it seems like we’ll have to wait assuming we’ll ever get this title at all. I hope the idea will see the light of day, but for now, consider this one of the many rumors that has proven to be false.

Earlier today, Nintendo got the E3 hype rolling early with their streaming presentation of Iwata Asks, displaying new functions of the WiiU before their formal press conference in a few short days.

Through seeing the controller in motion, displays of the equipment and an incredibly cheesy skit that’s sure to make the rounds as part of the annual “embarassing E3 moments” that everyone eagerly awaits, Nintendo was able to show that the WiiU will be more than just a Wii with a tablet.

Features include:

The WiiU tablet, now known as the “WiiU Game Pad,” will have larger analog sticks that press down, can function as an independent TV remote and has a sensor that can read cards and figures for game play. I guess that explains the figures used in the Rayman Legends trailer. Can anyone say Skylanders?

Support for the Wii Remote, Nunchuck and Balance Board. So no more having to buy a whole new set of equipment!

A new remote called the WiiU Game Pad Pro will be released as a stand alone control for the supposed hardcore crowd. It looks like the Classic Control Pro except it’s wireless and functions independently. I’m wondering though, will old Classic Controllers work?

Out of all the announcements, the biggest one would be Nintendo’s new online strategy. Trust me, with their history, I would have never expected to say that Iwata and company might have the most expansive online component of any gaming console out there, but that was before they revealed the MiiVerse.

MiiVerse will connect through the Nintendo Network and support the WiiU, 3DS and all future Nintendo hardware. The home menu will show friends, Mii’s on your console and people who are playing recent games that you have played, where these groups can chat in real time about the game their currently engrossed in. The tablet can be used like PictoChat, Swapnot and Flipnote Studios to write and draw messages to these groups for easy communication. Game play can be suspended at any point to leave messages on a forum type environment to ask questions, leave tips and communicate with those playing the same games that you are. Eventually, gamers will even be able to chat through PC’s and all mobile devices, which is a great idea since it would be better to embrace smart phones rather than treat them as competitors. Even during game play, the Mario title displayed showed players from each stage commenting on their experience. Iwata assures us that they will keep away spoilers, but I’m not too sure on how they will be able to filter that.

But the most telling part was that the WiiU Game Pad will feature full video chat support. So yes, the company that made it impossible to play with friends online for nearly a decade will now allow video chat featuring creepy old men watching 20 somethings play with their action figures while asking if they’re their best friends. At least that’s what I took from the video skit, which was like an episode of the Big Bang Theory, except it was slightly entertaining.

Keeping up with the theme of sexual deviancy, the last feature showed was the ability to browse the web on both the tablet and the TV, much like the games displayed last year. If you want to share your web browsing experience with your friends, then why not? So once I have a WiiU and I decide I’m gonna sit back and watch some porn, when Jonathan inevitably pops into my head, I can say, “Hey! This is the kind of work Jonathan can enjoy!” And just like that, I can share my porn with the rest of the world. And even though the browser will display on both the TV and the tablet, you can cover the TV in case you don’t want people in your house to see what you’re doing. But being the innovators that they are, Nintendo is bringing fun to browsing by letting off festive music and confetti when the curtain is pulled off the TV. So when my wife walks in on me, it’ll be like a really fun surprise!

Head over to Nintendo.com to watch a replay of the stream. Hopefully that can hold you off until Tuesday when the formal press conference takes place. And trust me, after watching this edition of Iwata Asks, I can’t wait to feed zombies a bullet sandwich!

One LEGO game to rule them all! The Fellowship returns in an all new form in this trailer courtesy of IGN.

The game is set for a October 2012 release date.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not much of a gamer…but Skyrim is no ordinary game. It’s quite possibly the best game I’ve ever played in my life.  Like many people though, I ran out of things to do months ago and I’ve been eager to revisit the incredibly realized fictional universe. Bethesda has been hinting at downloadable content for some time, and now the trailer for Dawnguard is finally here.  No release date has been set yet, but Dawnguard has been confirmed for a summer release.

Please Skyrim… come and take away every spare moment of my free time. I’m already growing out my Nord beard in anticipation.

There are racing games, and then there are EXTREME racing games! Or at least there were, but they have really gone out of style in recent years. Even kings of extreme like SSX have become more tame in more recent titles. But does that stop Mad Riders? No! This digitally released ATV racer has style to spare, with gorgeous visuals to boot. But is that enough to deserve a go around, or does this title stall at the gate?

Mad Riders features 40 plus tracks over about a half a dozen locales, all of which look fantastic in motion, (though I can’t say the same for the character models. The audience has a severe lack of faces.) By performing well in races, players will level up, unlocking new tricks, vehicles and outfits along the way. Like great arcade racers of the past, collecting special icons, racers can manually trigger boost charge stations, shortcuts and ramps… but not until you unlock the ability to do so. It feels really limiting in the beginning, since you literally can’t do anything but drive forward or boost when the game starts up, but as the game expands, that’s where it reaches its full potential.

Performing tricks throughout the races nets extra experience points while earning more boost power for extra speed. Plus, it gives you great practice for when other modes come into play. Some of the usual features include checkpoint races where racers have to hit certain spots to advance and trick contests where the racer with the most successful tricks throughout a lap wins. But Mad Riders has some lesser used ideas that make it speed ahead of the competition. Race modes like Perfectionist, where racers repeatedly complete the same lap for a set amount of time to earn the fastest single lap, are great to play. Especially with friends both locally and online.

For all of its modes, Mad Riders is pretty straightforward, which is probably its biggest flaw aside for the slow progression. Even with the large amount of tracks, many of them feel the same. The AI isn’t too difficult, so it won’t take too long to place 1st in every track the game has to offer. Not to mention that there’s nothing more puzzling than being warped to the back of a ramp because your back tires scraped the side of a rail, barrier or edge. Hey game, just because I was close to falling doesn’t mean I actually fell!

Complaints aside, Mad Riders was a pleasant surprise that took me back to a simpler times in gaming. Feeling like the closest thing we’ll ever get to a new Jet Moto, while this racer doesn’t do much to reinvent the wheel, (aside from a few great game modes,) it’s racing, online capabilities and trick systems are simple, yet effective. Plus, for only $10, you can’t go wrong with so many tracks and vehicle types, even if many of them feel similar. So if you’re an arcade racing fan, want a gorgeous HD racer or miss simple, classic style titles, should you download this title? Frankly, you’d be mad not to.

Ubisoft’s new ATV racer, Mad Riders, is scheduled to debut on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN this week, and what better way to build up the excitement by releasing a new trailer?

Except this isn’t just any trailer. Mad Riders has the balls to show off the trailer of the trailer! While the game has a solid release date, we have yet to receive comment on when the highly anticipated trailer will debut. But until then, the video below will have to suffice. And that won’t be hard to do with all of the insane tricks and intense racing that the video shows off. Plus, it’s clear that the developers don’t take things too seriously, which is always a plus with me.

Look for a full review of Mad Riders soon!

Next week, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are set release a new gameplay trailer titled “Crossroads” for the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. Check out the teaser for the upcoming gameplay trailer.

What was an apparent leak earlier this afternoon, the reveal trailer for the upcoming WWE 13 from THQ hit the web, but was quickly pulled from every web page that dared to post it.

Promising a “revolution,” WWE had been hyping up the reveal for May 28th during Monday Night Raw through cryptic videos that gave no real clue as to what it was hyping. That revolution is seemingly an updated version of the revamped WWE 12 from last year, showing off new cinematic match sequences such as the ring collapsing after a top rope suplex, destrucable barricades that go into the crowd, and old favorites from wrestling’sboom period such as Mankind and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

But most importantly, current WWE Champion CM Punk is the cover boy this time around, which not only gets my Hulk Hogan PJ’s bunched up in excitement, but after he brought mainstream attention to the company last year through his “unscripted” roast of the company he worked for, was there really any other choice?

WWE 13 will arrive on November 1st, but check back on Monday for when the trailer is”officially” released

Darkrai, the hard to find Nightmare Pokemon from the Diamond and Pearl generation, is currently obtainable in Black and White versions. By simply going into your main menu and downloading it through mystery gift, this powerful creature can be a dream come true in any trainer’s team.

Why should you care? This dark type monster isn’t associated with nightmares for nothing. And no, it’s not just because of its emo bangs covering up one eye. Its special ability automatically reduces its opponent’s health every turn the foe is asleep. Adding in its wide variety of special type dark attacks, and this hidden beast will become a challenge for almost any oppenent, especially against the usually domanant psychic types.

Make sure to catch this rare Pokemon before June 10th. These special creatures only tend to show up once every few years, (unless you’re a Game Sharking cheater that is!) And the best part is you’ll have it a few months before the release of Black and White 2, so you can dominate your friends while they’re fiddling around with their brand new Tepigs. In other words, Darkrai is for winners. You’re a winner, aren’t you?

XSEED announced today that the prequel to the popular Ys series, Ys Origin will be coming to Steam on May 31st. At the price point of $19.99, this is a perfect time to get acquainted with what everyone in Japan got to play back in 2006.

Besides having the game translated in English for the first time, being on Steam will have the usual achievements and cloud support. For those who prefer to use a controller instead of mouse and keyboard, you heathens, you will have that option as well.

If you are not familiar with anything Ys, check out http://www.worldofys.com/yso/ to get caught up.

As with most people, I have only experienced Game of Thrones through the HBO series and not the books. The political turmoil, crazy plot twists and yes, boobs, makes the show entertaining to watch. And of course, with every great series, we sooner or later get a video game (remember the Lost game?). The first try for Cyanide (Montreal) was with Game of Thrones: Genesis, a turn-based strategy game that was ill received. This time around, Cyanide (Paris) takes a stab at Game of Thrones with an Action RPG.

Instead of following the original story, Cyanide crafted a new one, a tale that takes place before and during the first season of the HBO series. The story revolves around 2 different characters. One is Mors Westford, a Night Watch ranger that has to go on a mission to find a woman that Jon Arryn, the hand of the king, wants protected. The other is Alester Sarwyck, a red priest who comes home after many years to pay his respects to his dead father as well as to rightfully claim the throne of his home, Riverspring.

With the help of George R.R. Martin, Cyanide has created a fantastic story that is a joy to experience. Just be prepared to sit through a lot of text and dialogue. Game of Thrones has so much exposition in the beginning that it almost wore me down. So much information passed before me through my 25 hour play-through that I was wishing that I had the Cliff Notes in front of me by the end (because without complication, it’s not Game of Thrones!)

Speaking of the end, Game of Thrones just doesn’t seem to want to end when you want it to. Multiple times I thought I was at the end of the game when it just kicks into another chapter. It’s kind of frustrating when you are up at 4am thinking that you are at the end and you end up with 3 more chapters to go. Choices that you make in the game are supposed to change the outcome as you progress yet I felt that the changes were minor and never had the impact Cyanide intended them to have. The only choices that seemed to matter where the ones near the end which decided which of the 4 endings I received.

Thankfully, the story is worth it due to some good voice actors. Only two, unfortunately, are the actual actors from the HBO series. James Cosmo (Lord Commander Jeor Mormont) and Conleth Hill (Lord Varys the Spider) had me seeing them as they are in the HBO series while talking to me in the game. Of course it helps that the characters were also modeled after their HBO counterparts. I had a hard time with Alester’s voice acting. There are times when he nailed it. Too bad there are many other times where the delivery of the lines were awful. Mors, on the other hand, was amazing throughout the game. With the low, gravelly voice, you knew that he was a man best left alone.

Combat ended up being quite boring at first. Having to queue up 3 actions at any given time was unsatisfying. It only got a little better when you had more than 1 person to control to switch between and manage their attacks. I appreciated how the action slows down when you bring up the radial skills wheel. I had a few close calls with drinking a potion to stave off death. Just like the story, the good combat takes some time to get to. Once you learn that enemies with different armor types are susceptible to certain weapon proficiencies, you try to set the weapons in your 2 separate load-outs to accommodate that. You can get by with just using weapons with the proficiencies of cutting and perforating. I rarely ran across enemies that blunt weapons had a bonus effect on.

The absolute, best thing about the combat is using Mors’ skinchanger ability. With this ability, you can control your mangy mutt of a bulldog. Doing so lets you run around in first-person view as the dog! I became more wrapped up in the sneaking around, stealthily killing soldiers by ripping their throats out. It reminded me that someone needs to make a Milo & Otis game. You can sniff around for hidden treasure too but thinning out the ranks by leaping at enemies throats is really, really fun.

I see where Cyanide was going with the customization for each of your characters. Having the option to pick between 3 different battle stances for Mors or Alester will have an effect on what skills you can learn and what weapons you will be more proficient using. Late in the game you can add a second stance to add more abilities to your arsenal. None of this seems to really make an impact since most will settle on the 2 or 3 skills that are the most useful and spam them over and over ad nauseum. One thing I did find surprising is being able to pick your strengths and weaknesses. For instance, I can pick leadership as a strength and to balance that out, I would have to pick something to offset that like a weakness to fire. I would like to see this implemented in more RPG’s. More customization is not a bad thing, as long as it’s done right.

With such a vast world to use, it’s a shame to not have anything really to do in it. There are side quests to be found albeit very few of them. I wanted more to do than just the main quest and lazily exploring the world and found myself disappointed when there wasn’t a reason to do anything but the main story quests.

Still, the Music in Game of Thrones is pure bliss and worth wandering around listening to. Again, having HBO on their side helps out with some licensing and Cyanide was able to use the theme song from the TV series. I spent the whole week humming the very infectious theme. The visuals of the world and characters could have been cleaned up a bit as they are not pretty to see at times and some clipping issues are bothersome but none of it should take you out of the game as you play.

With George R.R. Martin helping craft the story, fans of the books and TV series will find enjoyment in the intertwining stories between Mors and Alester. People that love a good story in their RPG but don’t follow the book or HBO series will still find Game of Thrones interesting enough to sit through the dull moments in combat as well as the world feeling a little empty. Everyone else coming to this game on the assumptions that it will be “Game of Boobs” will be sorely unsatisfied. After 25 hours with the game, my quest to find some boobs was still unfinished.

After Chronicle became a huge success, Sony Pictures has taken notice in the talents of director Josh Trank and signed him on to try to do the impossible, make a video game movie that doesn’t suck.

That is going to be a hard task since Shadow of the Colossus is a cult favorite among gamers and they will be sure to point out any little mistake Trank makes. Even being a fan of the game himself, Josh Trank has a daunting project on his hands.

At least he will get a new writer since the one that was hired back in 2009 didn’t do so well with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, the failed Voltron movie, and Masters of the Universe.
