Video game adaptations are appearing to be the next big thing in Hollywood. And the latest that could be joining the group are Valve’s Half-Life and Portal franchises.

Don’t worry, J.J. Abrams won’t be directing. He’s got a lot on his plate already in that department. However, Abrams production company Bad Robot will be teaming up with Valve Software to adapt each others properties for both video games and films. Bad Robot will help Valve make movies and Valve will help Bad Robot make video games.

Gabe Newell of Valve stated:

“We sort of reached the point where we decided that we needed to do more than talk.”

Keep in mind, just because they’re working together to produce these films, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they definitely will get made. However, with the rising popularity in video game adaptations the chances are quite high that we may see both come to the big screen.

With the confirmation that Disney is indeed branching out the Star Wars universe and would be producing spin-0ff films, new details have surfaced regarding just who the films may focus on. According to Entertainment Weekly, the first movies outside of the saga will be based on cargo smuggler Han Solo and fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett.

h-solo-solo
EW’s source states the time period of Han Solo’s film will take place between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope. With this timeline, expect a new and younger actor to play the role of Han Solo, presumable someone under the age of 35 (Harrison Ford’s age at the time of A New Hope).

tumblr_lt0vgcGzIN1qa9k35o1_1280
So, what about Boba Fett film? Well, this one has two possible time lines. It could either take place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Return Of The Jedi. There aren’t currently any casting rumors surrounding this film, but  EW does point out that Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in the prequels, is still of an age where he could play the bounty hunter. Which, would totally make sense being that Boba is a clone of Jango.

There are no directors who have been contacted regarding these films yet, but it is worth noting that Joe Johnston has expressed interest in doing a solo Boba Fett film for quite some time. Also, just recently Robert Rodriguez  expressed his desire to work on a Han Solo film. Definitely exciting news, especially for fans of the Fett-man.

Keaton will play a “reclusive and eccentric host of an underground supercar race where he invites the best drivers from around the world.”

The search for the actor to fill the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming space epic is finally over. There’s been a long list of names in the running for the role, but now Deadline reports that Chris Pratt (Zero Dark Thirty) has signed on for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Once again, as they usually do, Marvel Studios have gone with a name that wasn’t on the on the list of contenders or “front runners” for the role.

The actor recently bulked up quite a bit for his role in the Academy Award nominated film Zero Dark Thirty. He has also impressed quite a few critics with his roles in Zero Dark Thirty and Moneyball. With the highly-anticipated film set to start shooting very shortly, expected even more casting announcements over the new few weeks.

Did the Superbowl spot get you hyped up for Fast & Furious 6? Universal has now released the full trailer for Justin Lin’s next installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. Apparently no one sent Lin the memo that franchise’s were supposed to get worse over time, not better.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe.  But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez).  The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London.  Payment?  Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

Variety is reporting that Stacy Keach has joined the ever growing cast of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Keach will play the role of mob boss Wallenquist aka “The Kraut”, who is described by Rodriguez as “the one man who can’t be redeemed in Sin City” and “pure evil.” His face is evidently replete with heavy scars and burn wounds.

Expect this, we did not. It was revealed shortly after the news that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm and that we would be getting a new Star Wars trilogy, that we would also be seeing spin-off films for the franchise. Well, now it appears that someone has learned just who the first spin-off film will focus on. Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that they’ve found out some big info and that these films may focus on some pre-established characters in the franchise one of these movies will focus on one of the most popular characters in the franchise and the widest of the Jedi masters, Yoda. Harry Knowles states:

yoda-2

“The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon YODA. At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a STAR WARS slate”.

Rumor for now this may be, but exciting possibility it is. Mostly because this means we may finally get to see a Boba Fett standalone film as well. However, don’t expect to hear any official word regarding this though any time soon because with them aiming for a 2015 release, Disney and Lucasfilm are definitely putting their primary focus into Star Wars Episode VII at the moment.

With the release date just under two months from now, the viral marketing for G.I. Joe: Retaliation is heating up. After a major delay to post-convert the movie into 3D (and trust me…it’s pretty damn impressive post-conversion) and the release of a few new trailers, anticipation levels for the film are very high. Now the viral marketing for the film has been amped up with new posters, commercials and billboards popping up.

There’s been plenty of news when it comes to cast members from the original trilogy returning for  X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but when it comes to the cast from X-Men: First Class only a handful have been revealed to be coming back. Bryan Singer has already revealed that James MacAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will all be returning for the film. But what about the rest of the cast?

first-class-signed-on-cast

With the recent revelation that events in the sequel would take place over ten years after the events of First Class, there’s highly a chance we may not see some of the younger cast members returning. Does this mean that we may see a “new” team introduced in the upcoming sequel comprised of younger versions of characters from the original trilogy?

xaviers-school

With the director bringing back many cast members from his previous X-films, is the possibility of Singer not only bringing back actors but characters that he’s previously worked with highly unlikely? Definitely not. This would also work quite well is Singer and Millar are working to fix FOX’s X-movie timeline being. Why is that you ask? Well, we did get cameos from two of the mentioned characters in X-Men: First Class.

There’s plenty of exciting possibilities surrounding this film. And this one is just speculation for now, but at the rate things are going, we’re definitely going to be learning a lot more about the film before it begins shooting in a few months. But seriously Singer, we really all want Scott Summers to come back for this one.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is scheduled to hit theaters July 17, 2014.

Remember when we told you that Marvel Studios was considering adapting Planet Hulk and World War Hulk for the big screen? That we wouldn’t see another solo movie for The Hulk until after the sequel to The Avengers? According to Latino Review, a very reliable source when it comes to Marvel Studios news, both statements are true. The Hulk will be back for the sequel to The Avengers, and we’ll be seeing him sent off to space at some point.

That’s right people. The next time you see The Hulk in a solo film will be a film adaptation of the critically acclaimed “Planet Hulk”. And there’s definitely BIG plans for what is going to follow that. How big are we talking here? Well, there’s going to be a war coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it’s not a “Civil War”. That’s right people…this is all leading to an adaptation of “World War Hulk”, an adaptation that sees the green behemoth return to earth with his alien army to take revenge. You can now pick your jaws up off of the floor.

Following the news of  Ant-Man and Dr. Strange spearheading “Phase Three” with possibility of a Heroes For Hire film as well, the excitement levels for “Phase Two” have grown exponentially.

Marvel’s “Phase Two” begins on May 3rd with Iron Man 3.

While speaking with Forbes, director Michael Bay talked about the upcoming fourth chapter in the Transformers franchise. The film, which starts shooting in May, will be the start of a new trilogy and Bay has stated this while this is a direct sequel to the prior three films, it’s a completely new take on the series.

transform-4

“We’re going to start off smaller. There’s a brand new cast. To freshen the franchise, we’ve redesigned everything from top to bottom. The history of the first three movies is still there, we start four years later and there’s a reason why we’re meeting a new cast. Mark [Wahlberg] is really excited about it and it’s a great redesign. I said that 3 [which grossed $1.1 billion] was going to be my last one. Paramount was letting me do Pain & Gain and the Transformers ride was opening at Universal and it was bittersweet to think of passing it off. I wanted to set it up on a really sure footing and to bring someone else in on that, it would have been overwhelming.”

Bay also goes on to state that they are attempting to broaden the franchise and give it more places to go. Hopefully those plans to broaden it also include the Dinobots. We’re just saying.

Transformers 4 is set to hit theaters June 27th, 2014.

An adaptation of John Layman & Rob Guillory’s series CHEW has been in the works for awhile now,  Stephen Hopkins (24) has been working on a movie adaptation of the series since 2010. Then, a short while ago, it was revealed that there was a small screen adapation in the works with Showtime. Just weeks ago Guillory discussed how work was progressing on the series but it now appears that talks have broken down with Showtime.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that we won’t see a CHEW series come to the small screen, but it definitely doesn’t look good. If you haven’t read the series check out the synopsis for it below:

Tony Chu is a cop with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he’s a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn’t mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. It`s a dirty job, and Tony has to eat terrible things in the name of justice. And if that wasn`t bad enough, the government has figured out Tony Chu`s secret. They have plans for him… whether he likes it or not.

Emily VanCamp (Revenge, Carriers) has landed the role of the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Deadline reports that VanCamp and Marvel Studios are currently negotiating to lock her in the role, which is believed to be that of Sharon Carter, in the upcoming sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.

VanCamp seems to have beat out a long list of candidates for the role in the Marvel Studios film. Much like their usual pattern,  Marvel Studios have chosen a candidate that wasn’t previously reported to be in the running for the film. Filming is set to begin in a few months on the Marvel Studios film.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to hit theaters on April 4, 2014.

With the film currently stalled at Paramount, Valiant Entertainment Group has chosen to move forward themselves with a film adaptation of Harbinger. The company has brought back Stephen Susco (Texas Chainsaw 3D) to pen the script for the film. This part is great news. The only bad news is that the potential director attached is Brett Ratner, but keep in mind that potential director doesn’t necessarily mean that he actually will be directing the film. If he does get brought on to direct, could Ratner redeem himself here for X-Men: The Last Stand?

harbinger_0_3

The film originally in development over at Paramount, but underlying rights issues in the whole Fox and Warner Bros. lawsuit over Watchmen has stalled the project. Well, instead of going the the studio route, Valiant has “chosen to seek financing and was given a capital infusion from private investment company Cuneo & Co. and partnered with former Marvel CEO and vice chairman Peter Cuneo to relaunch and independently develop their own library of over 1,500 titles.”

The series, which was created by Jim Shooter, is a dark and modern twist on the mutant/superhero mythology and follows Pete Stanchek, a teenager- turned-superhero and his battle with a equally powerful industrialist. If you’ve never read an issue of Harbinger, do yourself a favor and check the series out. You won’t be disappointed.

A casting call for X-Men: Days of Future Past has revealed an interesting piece of information about the film. The casting call reveals that a majority of Bryan Singer’s upcoming sequel will take place over ten years after the events of X-Men: First Class. This could be the reason that some of the cast members from that film won’t be returning. But this also does open up the door for a number of interesting new members to join the team, including some of the original X-Men from the first film. Since it’s set in the 70’s…does that mean we might see an appearance by the X-Men’s resident queen of disco, Dazzler? Check out the casting call below.
