You know the long talked about Legendary Pictures World Of Warcraft flm adaptation? There hasn’t been much word on it since it was revealed that Blood Diamond writer Charles Leavitt was brought on to work on the script for the film. Well, it has finally landed a director in the form of Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code). Bringing the popular Blizzard Entertainment video game universe to life will be a massive jump for the director. The Hollywood Reporter reports:

“The Warner Bros.-based production and finance outfit is eyeing a fall 2013 start and a 2015 release. Jones’ producing partner, Stuart Fenegan, will executive produce on behalf of their production company, Liberty Films. Chris Metzen will co-produce for Blizzard.”

With Legendary aiming at a 2015 release date for the film, it looks like there is going to be one more large scale film joining that year’s slate.

Kevin Fiege has been talking about their desire to bring a live-action Inhumans film the big screen for awhile now. Now, it seems that maybe Marvel is testing the waters because they have just announced that on April 23rd,  Inhumans will debut in animated form in a new Marvel Knights movie. Check out the DVD cover art as well as a list of special features the DVD will contain below.

inhumans

Synopsis:

The Inhumans have always been one of Marvel’s most enduring oddities. A race of genetic outsiders, they live secluded in their island kingdom of Attilan, preferring not to mix with the outside world. Even stranger, their genetic mutations are self-endowed; each Inhuman, as a coming-of-age ritual, endures exposure to the Terrigen Mists, a strange substance that imparts unearthly powers–some extraordinary, some monstrous. But now the kingdom of Attilan is under attack from without and within. Can the Royal Family, led by Black Bolt, repel the foreign invaders who blast at their outer defenses, as well as the internal threat of Black Bolt’s insane brother, Maximus the Mad? This popular series takes a classic Marvel cast of characters, and infuses it with a modern sensibility that includes international politics and an awareness of class systems. Dark and grimly compelling, the “Inhumans” is one story that won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Bonus Features Include:

A Look Back At The Inhumans with Eisner Award-winning writer Paul Jenkins, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada and Supervising Producer Kalia Cheng.

Dimension Films have announced that co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have chosen Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Casino Royale) to star as Ava Lord, a role that was rumored to go to Angelina Jolie, in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. The iconic character from the graphic novel is described by Frank Miller as “every man’s most glorious dreams come true, she’s also every man’s darkest nightmares.” Miller and Rodriguez stated:

ava-lord

“We’ve been wanting to tell this story for a very long time. Ava Lord is one of the most deadly and fascinating residents of Sin City. From the start, we knew that the actor would need to be able to embody the multifaceted characteristics of this femme fatale and we found that in Eva Green. We are ecstatic that Eva is joining us.”

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is scheduled to hit theaters October 4th.

There hasn’t been much word regarding when we would see the first trailer for James Mangold’s The Wolverine, but now we know just when it will debut. The first trailer for the film will debut online February 12th and then be attached to A Good Day To Die Hard in theaters the following weekend. No word as far as length, but Mangold has implied that it will be a very minimal teaser that won’t be giving away too much when it comes to the story of the film.

“I think you always want to put your best foot forward. For me, I’m not the marketing department of Fox, but for my own tastes, less is more.”

The Wolverine will claw into theaters July 26, 2013.

After Green Lantern flopped massively at the box office, the fate of any sort of DC Cinematic Universe became unclear as it become obvious that Warner Bros. has been skeptical about moving forward with their comic properties. Sure, they had success with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, but they haven’t done too well with any of their other comic properties. Now, in a piece about Jeff Robinov staying on as president of the Warner Bros. motion picture group it has been revealed that the fate of their DC Cinematic Universe all comes down to one man. A man of steel.

Stakes are high for “Man of Steel.” Other than Nolan’s Batpics, Warners has not been able to effectively exploit the DC library. Its 2011 “Green Lantern” underperformed, and a “Justice League” film wouldn’t likely be in theaters before 2015, as Warner’s top brass has indicated that they are awaiting the results of “Man of Steel,” which opens June 14, before moving further ahead.

With Warner Bros. and DC treating this like their equivalent to Marvel’s Iron Man as their jumping off point, the pressure is definitely on Zack Snyder & Christopher Nolan’s new take on the iconic superhero.

Man Of Steel opens June 14, 2013.

It looks like Electro isn’t the only villain that Peter Parker is going to have his hands full with in the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. It’s been revealed that Paul Giamatti (John Dies At The End, Rock Of Ages) is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming sequel as the villain The Rhino. Could Marc Webb be establishing all the members and leading up to Spider-Man going head to head with The Sinister Six? It’s a definitely possibility and an exciting one at that.

1_paul_giamatti

For Giamatti this is pretty much a dream job and most likely a done deal. Back in 2011 he told ShowbizSpy:

“I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid. It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me…If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”

Unfamiliar with the character yourself? The Rhino was one of Spider-Man’s earliest foes, who was first introduced in 1966, and as his name implies, he has many of the characteristics of a rhinoceros. That includes incredible strength and speed as well as a huge horn on his head (though he’s also not the brightest by any means). While some versions of this character’s origin have him being a part of secret medical experiments, this universe may see him appear similar to his Ultimate Universe incarnation (which this film series borrows from) which featured him in a suit of armor stolen from the military.

Felicity_Jones_5

It’s also been revealed that British actress Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) is currently in talks to join the cast as well in an unspecified role.

The currently untitled sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is set to swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

Earlier today, a press release was issued regarding Cartoon Network’s upcoming block of cartoons. The release contained information regarding new shows such as Beware The Batman and Teen Titans Go! but contained nothing about their hit series Young Justice or Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

Rumor began floating around that both series were going to be coming to an end and now Newsarama has confirmed via a source that the shows will be wrapping up their runs at the end of the season. You can pretty much expect Beware The Batman and Teen Titans Go! to take their place when they come to an end.

Clark Gregg may not be the only member of the Marvel Cinematic universe that could be appearing in Marvel and ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. series. There’s a chance that Cobie Smulders could possibly appear in the series as S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Maria Hill. When asked about the possibility the actress told website IAmRogue:

“The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it and I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.”

With her other series, the long-running CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, coming to a wrap there’s a definite chance that we could see Smulders appear alongside The Avengers alumni Clark Gregg in the series if it gets picked up. Oh, who are we kidding? We meant when it gets picked up. The series pilot is currently rumored to air sometime in August.

While speaking with Empire Magazine, X-Men: Days Of Future Past director Bryan Singer talked about dealing with time travel in the upcoming X-film. The film will be based on a classic X-Men storyline that sees Kitty Pryde travel back in time from an apocalyptic future in which mutants are hunted by Sentinels in an attempt to change the past. And from the sound of it, Singer has been talking to the right people when it comes to making a movie that involves time travelling.

x-dofp-2

“”It’s epic. I don’t think people realise how big this movie’s going to be. We get to bring both casts together. We’ve cracked it in a way that makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick with them. That’s what makes Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible. More than any of the movies I’ve made, it comes to me much more quickly than on other films. With Superman Returns I struggled a lot. I guess it’s either my history with the X-Men universe or I have some kind of knack for this particular story.”

Singer also commented on what to expect from the upcoming prequel/sequel:

“It has a lot of aspects of the comic. The actual comic of Days Of Future Past had a whole ton of stuff going on, so it’s like any of these things; you have to distill it. But I think the fans will be pleased that some of the most exciting parts of Days Of Future Past are going to be connected to this movie.”

The director also commented on how much this film will tie in with the previous X-films:

“I’m taking into account every movie – I’m not just grabbing my first two movies and First Class and smashing them together. I’m taking into account the entire universe as it’s been laid out so far on the screen, and really respecting it and trying to work with that. People took things in various directions, so there’s some clean-up. But ultimately I’m not just ignoring them either.”

Whether you liked Superman Returns or not, it’s undeniable that Singer made two great X-Men films prior to working on that. And it definitely sounds like he’s on the right track for making a great, if not the best, X-Men film to date here. But seriously, Bryan we’re waiting for you to announce the return of one of the Summers brothers already.

This weekend Paramount added a special four minute look at the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation to 3D screenings of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. A low-quality version of the preview has made its way online. The preview footage, which is part of a longer ten-minute Himalaya action sequence, is partially inspired by the classic 1984 story “Silent Interlude” from the G.I. Joe comics and is told entirely without spoken dialogue. If the rest of the movie is anything like this scene, it looks like we’re definitely going to be getting a great G. I. Joe film.

Does the name sound unfamiliar? Well, Ernie Reyes Jr. performed stunts for Donatello as well as playing the role of Keno in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret Of The Ooze. Since then Reyes has gone on to do stunt work for Avatar, Act Or Valor and a number of other films. Now, Keno wants to return to the franchise and has released a sizzle reel to let Michael Bay know that he’d love to come on and choreograph the martial arts for Jonathon Liebesman’s next film in the franchise. Well, it’s official. Earlier yesterday it was revealed J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Lost, Super 8) would be coming on to direct the next chapter in the Star Wars franchise and now the studio has put out a press release officially announcing it. Read the full press release below:

StarWars-Logo

J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII, the first of a new series of Star Wars films to come from Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy. Abrams will be directing and Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay.

“It’s very exciting to have J.J. aboard leading the charge as we set off to make a new Star Wars movie,” said Kennedy. “J.J. is the perfect director to helm this. Beyond having such great instincts as a filmmaker, he has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essence of the Star Wars experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgettable motion picture.”

George Lucas went on to say “I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”

“To be a part of the next chapter of the Star Wars saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honor,” J.J. Abrams said. “I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid.”

J.J., his longtime producing partner Bryan Burk, and Bad Robot are on board to produce along with Kathleen Kennedy under the Disney | Lucasfilm banner.

Also consulting on the project are Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg. Kasdan has a long history with Lucasfilm, as screenwriter on The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Return of the Jedi. Kinberg was writer on Sherlock Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Abrams and his production company Bad Robot have a proven track record of blockbuster movies that feature complex action, heartfelt drama, iconic heroes and fantastic production values with such credits as Star Trek, Super 8, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, and this year’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Abrams has worked with Lucasfilm’s preeminent postproduction facilities, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, on all of the feature films he has directed, beginning with Mission: Impossible III. He also created or co-created such acclaimed television series as Felicity, Alias, Lost and Fringe.

Disney is currently aiming at a 2015 release date, but it’s been revealed that Abrams hasn’t committed to that date yet. Abrams is definitely going to work hard on this one and the date could be changed if the development process requires  it. With Abrams track record for re-invigorating franchises, the anticipation levels for the next chapter in the Star Wars have grown exponentially. Now that a director is locked down for the film, expect official casting news to begin very soon.

Still no word when a trailer will be released for David Twohy’s Riddick. But, we do have another image (courtesy of Vin Diesel’s Facebook page) to build up your excitement for the film. The image shows Vin Diesel as the titular character going head to head, or more like knife to throat, with Karl Urban’s character.

riddick-vin-diesel-image2

The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Riddick hits theaters September 6, 2013.

Both Ant-Man and Doctor Stange have been two projects that Marvel Studios has talked about but never confirmed. That was until at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con when Marvel announced finally announced Ant-Man was happening. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has now spoken about Marvel Studios “Phase 3” and stated that the character will be a major part of it.

ant-man-movie-logo

“Ant-Man’ is definitely part of Phase Three. Like ‘Iron Man 3,’ it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe.”

Fiege also went on to state that Marvel’s next phase will be quite different from what they’re telling currently.

“So much of what we’re telling right now is about the core ‘Avengers’ characters we’ve now met, and they’ll be evolving in big, surprising ways, in Cap’s next movie and Thor’s next movie and of course in ‘Iron Man 3,’ as we get them all into the next ‘Avengers’ film. Beyond that ‘Ant-Man’ is the only one officially announced.”

Fiege then went on to confirm that Dr. Strange is DEFINITELY a part of Phase Three.

“‘Doctor Strange,’ which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them. He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.”

Marvel Studios “Phase Two” hasn’t even officially started but the excitement is already building for the next phase. Could the next step for Marvel be an all-new cast of characters versus sequels? Well, hopefully we get at least a Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel.

There’s been plenty of rumors and talk about directors when it comes to Warner Bros. upcoming superhero ensemble, Justice League. Just today it was revealed from a fairly reliable source what characters would be seen in the film. Now, we may have the first official hint at who may actually be directing the film. Just a short while ago Variety’s Marc Graser, a very reliable source, tweeted something very interesting.

Could we be getting ready for some official news regarding this project? Not long ago it was rumored that Matthew Vaughn would be directing the next Star Wars. But with the recent news of J.J. Abrams signing on to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, could this end up being the real project that that the director has signed on for? We may be finding out very soon.

There have been plenty of names rumored to be attached to this project, and finally, it appears as though we’ve finally learned who will direct Disney and LucasFilm’s Star Wars: Episode VII.

Coincidentally enough, it turns out to be none other than one of the names that we listed for the five directors who should direct the next chapter in the franchise, which we posted on the day that the Disney news broke. According to The Wrap (as well as also being confirmed by Deadline), J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Super 8) has signed on to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, which is currently slated to release in 2015.

Ben Affleck was reportedly also up for the gig at one point but it ended up going to Abrams in the end. Previously, Abrams had stated that he would likely watch the next Star Wars as a fan, but seemed uninterested in directing. It looks like the “lure of the force” was too strong and Abrams is now in control of the two largest sci-fi franchises of all time. Abrams is currently in post-production of Star Trek Into Darkness while Toy Story 3 writer Michael Ardnt is scripting away on the next chapter of Star Wars, which should hit theatres in just two short years.

Next week will continue where this week’s episode left off and see Seth Gabel come to Starling City as The Count (aka Count Vertigo). You can totally tell that he has taken some influence from Batman Begins, which the showrunners have stated was a basis for his character, in the performance. Arrow definitely has been improving over time and this looks like it’s going to be one of better stories of the series.

SETH GABEL (“FRINGE”) GUEST STARS WHILE THEA FACES PRISON TIME — Thea (Willa Holland) is in trouble with the police after she gets caught using a drug called “Vertigo.” Oliver (Stephen Amell) thinks the only way to keep her out of jail is to find the dealer, a man who goes by the name of “The Count” (guest star Seth Gabel). Oliver turns to McKenna Hall (guest star Janina Gavankar), an old flame and current Vice cop, for help. Meanwhile, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) steps in to defend Thea, and Felicity (guest star Emily Bett Rickards) gives Oliver some disturbing news about Moira (Susanna Thompson). David Ramsey, Colin Donnell and Paul Blackthorne also star. Wendey Stanzler directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Ben Sokolowski (#112).

It’s been revealed via the Marvel Cinematic Universe Facebook page that next week not only will Marvel unveil a new poster for Iron Man 3 but also a sneak peek at the Super Bowl TV spot. It’s only another four short months until Marvel Studios “Phase Two” begins.
