Earlier this week a low quality version of the first image from Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2 made its way online. Universal has now released the first official look at Jeff Wadlow’s big screen adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s Kick-Ass 2 in high resolution for your viewing pleasure.

During this year’s annual UK Toy Fair, the LEGO showroom featured an exclusive look at their upcoming sets based on Marvel’s Iron Man 3. No photos were allowed but website Brick Fanatics posted the descriptions of the sets, and one in particular stands out.

Not long ago it was revealed that Wang Xuequi would be joining the cast of the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film as Chen Lu the alias of Radioactive Man. While using the character in a LEGO set doesn’t necessarily mean the charcter will indeed appear in the film, there have been numerous rumors of his appearance that even include a rumor of him appearing post-credits with an introduction to Ant-Man in the MCU. Guess we’re going. to have to wait and see if these rumors end up being true when the upcoming threequel hits theaters on May 3rd.

Two new names have joined the list of actors that Marvel is eyeing for a role in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. According to Latino Review, who is pretty reliable when it comes to Marvel Studios projects, Marvel Studios is looking at some big name comedic actors for a role in their upcoming space epic and are asking about the availability of both Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler. Don’t worry, these two aren’t joining the list of actors up for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord. It’s obvious that these two are being looked at for either the role (or roles?) of the gun-toting Rocket Raccoon or his buddy Groot, who will be the comedic relief of the film.

Well, it’s either that or Cosmo the space dog. Also, keep in mind that looking into the availability of an actor definitely isn’t the same as casting the actor. With shooting set to begin in a few months though, expect official casting announcements for the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film to begin very soon.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to hit theaters August 1, 2014.

The comic, created by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt, is described as follows:

“During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons, vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.”

Actor Vin Diesel has posted a new official pic from the upcoming Riddick to his Facebook page. The image gives us another look at the film’s anti-hero as he sits on some form of vehicle with the rain pouring down on him. No word yet as far as when a trailer for the film will be released, so this will have to hold you off until then.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Riddick is set to hit theaters September 6th, 2013.

Just last week at the Golden Globes, actor Toby Jones expressed his interest reprising the role of Arnim Zola in Marvel Studios Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now, while speaking with Joe Cunningham of HeyUGuys at the Critics Choice Awards, the actor let it slip that he has been called by Marvel and that he will indeed be returning as the Marvel Comics villain.

Now, it’s time to wonder which Arnim Zola we will see in the upcoming sequel. Will he be seen in his android body that we all know from the comics, which the blueprints were seen as an easter egg in Captain America: The First Avenger, or will he be merely appearing in flashback sequences in the upcoming sequel? Regardless, this is shaping up to definitely be one of 2014’s most anticipated movies.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters April 4, 2014.

The official green band trailer has been released for Fede Alvarez’s upcoming remake of Evil Dead. Couldn’t handle the red band trailer? Well, then you should check this one out. This all ages trailer may not be quite as gory, but it’s still tense as hell and with some new footage to check out.

“In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”

Evil Dead will scare the ****ing shit out of you on April 12th.

In two weeks Seth Gabel (Fringe) is coming to the The CW’s Arrow  as DC Comics villain Count Vertigo. Word is that Vetigo will be “Oliver’s deadliest adversary to date… He will be truly scary and nightmarish.”  That’s good news, bad news is that we have to wait two weeks to see this episode.

SETH GABEL (“FRINGE”) GUEST STARS WHILE THEA FACES PRISON TIME — Thea (Willa Holland) is in trouble with the police after she gets caught using a drug called “Vertigo.” Oliver (Stephen Amell) thinks the only way to keep her out of jail is to find the dealer, a man who goes by the name of “The Count” (guest star Seth Gabel). Oliver turns to McKenna Hall (guest star Janina Gavankar), an old flame and current Vice cop, for help. Meanwhile, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) steps in to defend Thea, and Felicity (guest star Emily Bett Rickards) gives Oliver some disturbing news about Moira (Susanna Thompson). David Ramsey, Colin Donnell and Paul Blackthorne also star. Wendey Stanzler directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Ben Sokolowski (#112).

New week Ben Browder (Farscape) comes to The CW’s Arrow as DC Comics character Ted Gaynor. The episode will see Oliver out to take down a member of the Blackhawk Squadron, but this particular target has ties to someone very close to Oliver. Will Oliver stand by his decision or will we see him go head to head with Diggle? We’ll find out next Wednesday!

TOMMY AND MALCOLM HAVE A HEART-TO-HEART TALK AND OLIVER AND DIGGLE ARE AT ODDS WITH EACH OTHER — The next person on Arrow’s (Stephen Amell) list is Diggle’s (David Ramsey) commanding officer and mentor from Afghanistan, Ted Gaynor (guest star Ben Browder). Oliver suspects Ted is responsible for recent armoured truck robberies, but Diggle defends Ted and takes a job at Ted’s security company to keep an eye on him. Oliver decides to make a move on Ted, which puts him at odds with Diggle. Meanwhile, Thea (Willa Holland) suspects that Moira (Susanna Thompson) is having an affair with Malcolm (guest star John Barrowman). Tommy (Colin Donnell) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) have an awkward dinner with Malcolm. Nick Copus directed the episode written by Gabrielle Stanton (#111).

The ever growing cast of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For has gained three new additions. As well as adding the recent additions of Joseph Gordon Levitt and Josh Brolin, sources are confirming that Juno Temple, (The Dark Knight Rises), Ray Liotta (Killing Them Softly), and Jeremy Piven (Smokin’ Aces) have also joined the cast of the film. The actors roles are being kept secret for now, but may be revealed with an official press release later on.

The CW is currently casting the lead in their upcoming series Amazon, which will be based on the early days of Wonder Woman. We’ve now learned that Scottish actress Amy Manson is currently one of the strong candidates for the role in the upcoming series with the actress having multiple callbacks during the audition process.

You may actually recognize Manson from her multiple appearances on Torchwood, Misfits and Being Human. Keep in mind thought that the actress hasn’t landed the role yet, but is one of the stronger candidates.  With the success they’ve had with Arrow fueling The CW’s desire to get the series going though, we may be learning who will land the role very shortly.

There has been talks for quite time regarding the next film in the Terminator franchise and when it would see the light of day. Director Justin Lin was originally attached to direct the next installment, but has since dropped out of the project. Arnold has expressed interest in returning to the franchise, but recently expressed his frustration with the lack of progress. Well, maybe that might have been what the people behind the film needed to get the ball rolling.

terminator-writers-2

Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures are finally moving forward with the film and have hired two writers to pen the script. Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Wes Craven’s Dracula, My Bloody Valentine) have been hired to write the script for the next installment in the highly successful sci-fi franchise. This next film is rumored to be one of the two final chapters in the story and hopefully will pick up after the events of Terminator: Salvation.

The CW’s Arrow is back and so is “The Mark”, our weekly rundown of the series. The mid-season break is over and Oliver Queen is back.  Did the mid-season return “heat” up or fizzle out? Well, I am happy to say that things are definitely “heating up” in Starling City. Minus a not-so-action packed finale, with an ending that you didn’t completely expect, it was another solid episode for the series.

Burned

The episode picks up six weeks after the Dark Archer’s attack before the break and we find Oliver shaken and quite off his game. Well, he’s going to have to get his head in the game because there’s someone going around killing firefighters and it’s a job that seems to be more than the police can handle. Who is it that’s doing this? Well, that would be Arrow-verse version of DC Comics villain Firefly. Oh, come on don’t act like you didn’t already know about that one. It’s a pretty dark introduction to the character and actually one of the best opening’s that the series has had.

mark-burned-2

The episode also saw the residents of Starling City go from calling the character a vigilante to a hero. After being gone for six weeks, the effect he has had has been seen and they want him back. The hero Starling City deserves, but not the one that’s anywhere to be seen right now? Okay, there’s the one Nolan joke about the series that I will make.

Overall it was a solid episode and really expanded upon all of the sub-plots, but did leave a bit to be desired. The action and tension were well done, minus the finale. While I did enjoy the Arrow-verse’s take on Firefly, the character met a demise that seemed way too quick. The finale of the episode lacked a bit in the action department and seemed to kind of “fizzle out” at the end. I did like how Lynns went out, but I definitely would have liked to have seen more lead up to it than we got.

Burned

The episode did continue leaving me wanting more of the series and there’s plenty to come. Wondering when Roy Harper is going to show up in Starling City? That is going to be Episode 15. Did you want more Deadshot? Well, he’ll be back and teaming up with China White in Episode 16. Want to learn more about the Dark Archer’s backstory? You’re going to and that’s just some of the stuff coming this season. Are you excited to see the rest of the season? We definitely are. Check out the promo for next week’s episode “Trust But Verify” below!

The first official image has been released from director Bong Joon-ho’s (The Host) highly-anticipated Hollywood debut Snowpiercer, which is based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige.  The film stars stars Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Ed Harris, Octavia Spencer and Song Kang-ho. Check out the first image from the film below.

Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.

Snowpiercer is expected to hit theaters sometime this summer. No release date has been set.

Warner Bros. Pictures is currently negotiating with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment to reboot the beloved Gremlins. Apparently, this isn’t the first attempt to reboot the 1984 horror comedy and the numerous attempts in the past have all fallen through.

However, sources are claiming that this time around it’s looking good and we may need to be warned again not to give Mogwai’s water after midnight. There’s no further details regarding the project, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as more is learned about it.

There’s no question that the Fallout video game series is a highly-recognizable name and very popular franchise among the video game community. Now, it appears that Bethesda may be looking to branch out by bringing the popular video game series to television. Bethesda Softworks have registered a trademark at the US Patent and Trademark Office with the mark “FALLOUT”, for “an on-going television program set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world.” Pretty straight forward right?

Another interesting thing it’s worth noting is that Erik Todd Dellums, who portrays DJ Three Dog in Fallout 3, recently tweeted that we may be seeing more of the character soon. Many fans had assumed that a fourth installment in the series would be on the way, but with this recent revelation it appears Dellums may have been referring to the television series.

With the success of shows such as The Walking Dead, Revolution and other shows of the sort…it doesn’t seem entirely unlikely that this show could be coming to your small screens soon. How soon? Well, hopefully before a nuclear apocalypse.

A brand new promo has been released for the second half of season three of AMC’s The Walking Dead.  It’s an “eye for an eye” when the residents of Woodbury come after Rick and the group at the prison. It’s almost back everyone…almost.

The Walking Dead returns Sunday February 10th.

There’s been talks of a Heroes For Hire movie being worked on for quite some time now, even as far back as when The Avengers was first announced, but with only pretty vague comments being made about it. Well, that is until now. Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb mentioned the potential project while talking about the Ultimate Spider-Man series with Buzzfeed. But just mentioning it doesn’t mean much, right? Well, maybe we’re making inferences based on how he mentioned it, comparing it to Marvel’s last big movie announcement.

“Just like we just announced Guardians of the Galaxy, we are certainly looking at the Heroes for Hire franchise which is Luke Cage and Iron Fist and Nova is very important to us; he happens to have a new comic book series starting in February which is oddly enough written by me.”

While he doesn’t state much about it, this is definitely promising news regarding these characters. Could this be the first planned movie of Marvel Studios’ “Phase Three”? We sure hope so!

It has just been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit that Robert Rodriquez’s Machete Kills will be hitting theaters on September 13th, 2013. It was previously thought that the sequel would be hitting theaters in July, but it appears that is no longer the case with this one. The film features Danny Trejo, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Sofía Vergara, Amber Heard, Zoe Saldana, Alexa Vega, Lady Gaga, and Lindsay Lohan. It’s a pretty damn impressive cast to say the least. Now that a release date has been set, a trailer should be expected pretty soon.

Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

It was revealed not too long ago that Colton Haynes (Teen Wolf) would be joining the cast of The CW’s Arrow as Roy Harper. Now, we have a first look at Haynes on set as Roy Harper, who will have a recurring role as a love interest for Oliver’s sister Thea.

Another big name has been added to the cast of Dreamwork’s film adaptation of EA’s Need For Speed. The film, which will star Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as Tobey Marshall, “sees Paul play a local street racer who, after being framed for the death of a friend, joins a New York-to-Los Angeles race to get revenge.”

Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi has just signed on to play Marshall’s best friend in the film. This isn’t the rapper and producer’s first time on screen though. He recently appeared in HBO’s How To Make It In America and the indie Two Night Stand as well as being rumored to be involved with the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Mescudi will join Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek and Harrison Gilbertson in the Scott Waugh (Act Of Valor) directed film.

Earlier today, word broke that director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Man Of Steel) is currently developing a Jedi-centered Star Wars spin-off film that would be loosely based on The Seven Samurai. This was exciting news for many, but now a rep for the director has now denied his involvement with the project and has sent a statement to The Hollywood Reporter in response Vulture’s report.

“While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.”

Of course, keep in mind that while Snyder’s reps may deny his involvement with the project it doesn’t necessarily mean that he isn’t actually involved. Vulture is a pretty reliable source and this may just be damage control to cover up some news that shouldn’t have leaked out yet.

And now it seems that just may be the cast. Vulture has responded to the statement by revealing that while Snyder may not be signed on for the project yet, he HAS had meetings with Lucasfilm regarding the project.

Vulture takes the accuracy of its reports very seriously. And while a piece published in The Hollywood Reporter this evening quotes Snyder’s rep as saying that the director “is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars,” Vulture stands by its story. This reporter heard through a source very familiar with the situation that Snyder recently flew up to Marin County to meet with Lucasfilm execs about the project. When subsequently reached by Vulture, Snyder’s spokesperson would only repeat that he “is” not currently involved. One should note the possible political ramifications here of our original story break: Snyder’s last Warner Bros. film, Sucker Punch, lost millions for the studio, and execs there could have become distressed at the idea of him getting involved with another studio’s franchise when they have so much at stake with their upcoming Man of Steel and want him available for an immediate sequel.

Still having some doubts? Well, Variety’s Jeff Sneider is backing up the report.

So, two pretty reliable sources are claiming that Snyder has had meetings regarding the project. Could they possibly be waiting until San Diego Comic-Con or the Disney Expo to reveal this project?

While these aren’t too revealing at all, Disney has sent out a press release that contains brief synopsises for Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy. The press release also confirms that both films will be released in 3D. Could this cosmic force of epic proportions be Thanos or an entirely new threat that we don’t know about yet?

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 4/4/14. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will pick up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. The film stars Chris Evans in the title role and will be directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 8/1/14. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. James Gunn will direct.

New Regency and Ubisoft have tapped up-and-coming writer Michael Lesslie to write the screenplay for the film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. The film, which will star and be produced by Michael Fassbender, is expected to hit theaters sometime next year.

Lesslie is an acclaimed English playwright and wrote Prince Of Denmark, which was performed at the National Theatre in 2012, as well as penning a number of short film. New Regency and Ubisoft are now seeking a director and additional producers for the film.

The film definitely has quite a bit of hype surrounding it, especially due to the popularity of the game franchise. The series centers on a bartender who is captured by a secret corporation and sent back in time to relive the memories of his ancestors, who all just happen to be assassins, and retrieve ancient artifacts. No current release date has been set, but with an expected 2014 release date we may see an announcement over the coming months.

We’re still waiting for an announcement regarding what director will be helming Star Wars Episode VII, but now there’s word of another Star Wars film in development. According to Vulture, director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Man Of Steel) is currently developing a Star Wars project for LucasFilm and Walt Disney. It’s not Episode VII, but the film is going to be set in that universe. However, it won’t be connected to the new trilogy:

” He is in fact developing a Star Wars project for Lucasfilm that is set within the series’ galaxy, though parallel to the next trilogy. It will be an as-yet-untitled Jedi epic loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai, with the ronin and katana being replaced by the Force-wielding knights and their iconic lightsabers.”

“…but one insider expects it will not be considered part of the “numbered” episodes, but rather a stand-alone film set sometime post–Episode VI events, meaning the next phase of the franchise development is much broader than previously thought. Our sources also say that Snyder’s would start production after Disney starts on its planned 2015 release of Star Wars: Episode VII.”

So, a new Star Wars film based on Kurosawa’s masterpiece Seven Samurai? That sounds like quite an interesting project. Could we be seeing Disney expanding upon their original plans to release a new Star Wars film every two years? Could they be establishing an expanded cinematic universe similar to what Marvel Studios has done? Only time will tell, but it definitely sounds like it.

One of Geekscape’s favorite movies this year was definitely Dredd. However, the general movie going audience didn’t seem to feel the same way and it underperformed at the box office. While promoting the Blu-Ray release of Dredd 3D, director Pete Travis commented on the possibility of a sequel to the film. Despite Dredd not making back its $50 million budget, Travis believes that a sequel will happen. However, he doesn’t think that he’ll be around to direct and also comments on Alex Garland’s idea for a trilogy:

“I don’t think so. I really hope there is a second one. I just feel very lucky to have been involved in the first one. It has been a great experience for me. I read Alex Garland’s script two years ago, and I fell in love with it then. I have enjoyed the whole process of working on that with him, and bringing it to the screen. It was extraordinary. I hope they get the chance to make another one. I think Dredd is an extraordinary character. I think Karl Urban captured him so perfectly. I think there is a real beautiful future there.”

“I think Alex Garland has a trilogy in his mind. I think there is a whole exciting journey in front of Dredd if Alex and Karl Urban get to take him on that journey. The future is really exciting for him. Especially in terms of going with some of the other characters from the comic book. Finding out more about where Dredd comes from. I also think its exciting, the possibilities. The first film does go all out as a visual feast. Whoever gets a chance to do the others willl take that, and make it even more exciting. I can’t wait to see it. I don’t really know how the sequel thing works, really. I hope they get another chance to make a second film. I think Karl Urban…He is Dredd. It would be really exciting for them to make another, and go further with that character. I sincerely hope so…”

Travis also revealed that he’s got another comic book script on his table at the moment:

“I wasn’t looking for a comic book movie when I found Dredd. Like I say, it was all about the script. There is another comic book script that I have been sent, that I quite like. I hope it might get made this year. I think comic books and graphic novels are exciting. I think there are tons of ways to make them more real. It’s an area I am really excited about.”
