AMC Renews ‘Preacher’ For An Expanded Second Season!

Briefly: Well that didn’t take long.

After releasing just five episodes, AMC has renewed Preacher for an expanded second season.

While the series, which is the #2 new series on cable this year, will run just ten episodes during its debut season, next year we’ll be watching 13.

“‘Preacher’ is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”

The series stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Lucy Griffiths as Emily, W. Earl Brown as Sheriff Root, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck and Ian Colletti as Eugene/Arseface.

I’ve only had an opportunity to watch the pilot thus far (which I certainly enjoyed). Those of you who have been following Preacher weekly, are you excited that a second season is happening? Sound out below!

AMC’S ‘Preacher’ Finally Gets A Title Sequence, And It’s Gorgeous!

Briefly: Finally.

We’ve watched (and loved) the first two episodes of Preacher over the past couple of weeks. Obviously, that second episode left us with a lot of questions, one of  being whether or not the series would receive an opening title sequence.

Beginning with this Sunday’s third episode, Preacher will indeed show off an opening credits sequence, and in typical Preacher fashion it looks so gorgeous that you wouldn’t mind watching it over and over and over again.

New ‘Warcraft’ Featurette Digs Into The Film’s Incredible Production Design!

Briefly: It’s nearly here!

Duncan Jones highly anticipated Warcraft is just over two weeks away from theatres, and Legendary has just debuted a new featurette which digs into the film’s incredible production design.

The featurette shows off the importance of melding visual effects with real locations, and while we don’t know just how good Warcraft will be at this point, it’d be pretty tough to say that the film isn’t gorgeous.

In Warcraft, the peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. The Best ‘Preacher’ Trailer Yet Stars Seth Rogen In Every Role!

Briefly: This is absolutely incredible.

Yeah, we’re all really excited for Preacher to debut this weekend. The adaptation of the Vertigo title looks spot-on, and every frame, teaser, and article that I’ve read about the series has made me absolutely ecstatic to finally check out the pilot.

Today, a new trailer for the series hit the web. This one’s a little bit different, however, as it stars Seth Rogen (one of the men who helped bring the adaptation to life) in every role.

Yep. It’s ridiculous and incredible, and Preacher debuts this Sunday night, May 22nd!

It certainly takes on a more humorous tone than the other teasers we’ve been seeing lately, and is a welcome change from the all-out action that Preacher has been showing off at times.

It’s a gorgeous image that showcases the Orc vs. Human struggle, and based on all of the footage that we’ve seen so far, there are set to be some mighty battles ahead for these two armies.

AMC’s ‘Preacher’ Now Has A Premiere Date!

Briefly: Those of you lucky enough to be attending SXSW festival may have had an opportunity to see the Preacher premiere earlier this week, but the rest of us now now just when we’ll be able to see the pilot episode of the anticipated series.

AMC has just announced that Preacher will premiere on Sunday, May 22nd at 10PM, following the mid-season final of Fear the Walking Dead. New episodes will then follow beginning on Sunday, June 5th!

Briefly: We’re still a couple of seasons away from Legendary’s beyond anticipated Warcraft adaptation to finally hit the big screen, and today the film’s first TV spot has hit the web, showing off some more incredible effects, as well as making us remember that director Duncan Jones is likely having a really tough time right now (sorry, Duncan).

The Official Trailer For ‘Warcraft’ Is Finally Here!

Holy cow! What a day so far. Activision Blizzard announces they’re starting a film and TV studio, and now this! We had the teaser for the Warcraft movie earlier this week, but now the full monty is here! Check out the trailer below.

I’ll be honest, I was more hyped when I saw the teaser trailer a few days ago. This makes me believe that this will just be a generic fantasy story set infront of pretty green screens. Well I’m gonna hafta wait to find out!

It looks about as spot-on as we could hope for, and seeing as Preacher was actually the first comic book series that I read in its entirety (likely long before I was old enough), you bet I’m looking forward to it.

Several Seconds Of ‘Preacher’ Footage Are Now Online!

Briefly: We’re finally just a couple of days away from our first real look at AMC’s adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher, and the network has just debuted the first snippet of footage online.

Actually, ‘snippet’ may be too generous. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it five seconds or so, but in any case, it’s pretty.

I sure am tired of the whole ‘teaser for a teaser’ idea however, anyone else?

Preacher stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Emily Woodrow as Lucy Griffiths, and Ian Colette as Arseface. Take a look at the footage below, and be sure to check back on Sunday for the full trailer.

GOD Has Spoken. ‘PREACHER’ Gets Series Order From AMC

In not so surprising news, AMC has ordered ‘Preacher‘ to series, its adaptation of the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic of the same name.

Executive producer, Seth Rogen celebrated the news by tweeted out a poster for the series.

Preacher centers on Reverend Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted Texas minister who merges with a spiritual force called Genesis. In doping so he is granted the powers and voice of God. He is joined by his girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and the Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). Lucy Griffiths (Emily Woodrow) and Ian Colletti (Arseface) also star in the project.

Preacher was one of the first comics series I completely read when I came back into comics back in 2005 so I’m really looking forward to seeing it come to life. My favorite casting in the show is Joseph Gilgun, I enjoyed his run on Misfits and I can tell he’s is going to embody that Cassidy persona like no one else could.

‘Warcraft’, ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Get New Release Dates!

Briefly: Dang.

Two films that I was really looking forward to have just received delays. Sure, they’re small delays, but delays nonetheless.

Warcraft, which was initially slated for March 2016, has received a new date of June 10th 2016. This puts it into the busy Summer movie season (showing confidence for the film, right?), and also pushes it away from the sure-to-be-a-blockbuster Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Pacific Rim 2 was originally set to release in April of 2017, and will also get a push to the Summer, hitting theatres on August 4th, 2017.

At least each push is only a few months, right? Are one are you most looking forward to? Sound out below!

BlizzCon 2014: ‘Warcraft’ Cast Revealed

Almost lost in the avalanche of announcements at BlizzCon 2014 today was the Warcraft cast. Never fear, though, we at Geekscape are here, battling exhaustion and bad internets, to bring you all the Blizzard news worth reporting.

And to not keep you in suspense any longer, here’s the casting (as we know it):

The Alliance

Travis Fimmel (Vikings) has been tapped to play Anduin Lothar. Yes, that Travis Fimmel and that Anduin Lothar. Lothar is known to most fans as the well-meaning, upright (maybe even a little uptight…) war hero and last true descendent of the Arathi bloodline.

King Llane Wrynn (grandfather to Prince Anduin Wrynn) is the ruler of the Kingdom of Azeroth during the First War (so that pretty much answers the when and the what of the movie, as the rest of cast confirms) and will be played by Dominic Cooper of Captain America: The First Avenger and Need for Speed.

Paula Patton (MI:5) joins the Alliance as Garona, a strong willed survivor torn between two loyalties.

Also joining the cast are Ben Foster (Lone Survivor)  as Medivh, the Guardian of Trisfal, corrupted and forsaken by the demonlord Sargeras, Ben Schnetzer as Khadgar, Medivh’s last apprentice and one of the great heros of the Alliance, and Ruth Negga (Agents of Shield) as Lady Taria, Queen of Stormwind and Llane’s great love & trusted advisor.

The Horde

The leading figures of the Orc Horde were announced as well.  Toby Kebbell (Planet of the Apes) as Durotan, Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan (for the Horde!), with Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim) as Orgrim, Durotan’s right-hand man, and Clancy Brown (The Highlander) as Blackhand, the Destroyer. Rounding out the Horde announcements is Daniel Wu as Gul’Dan, the supreme Orc ruler who can’t see the dark path he is leading his people down.

While exciting news (if somewhat disappointing that only two women were named, and both as lovers/advisors…still, that’s double the number of woman roles that were announced in the first Star Wars casting announcement, so…improvement? Maybe?), there’s still a lot we don’t know about the movie…other than it comes out in 2016, and it clearly deals with the First War and the creation of the Dark Portal.

Warcraft Movie Cast Revealed

Last week we had the sad news that Warcraft, the World of Warcraft movie, was pushed from a December 2015 release to a ‘sometime in 2016’ release (probably to avoid going up directly against Star Wars), but  today Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment gave us all something to celebrate. Or at least, gossip wildly over.

That’s right, some of the cast for Warcraft has been announced (note, there’s no character designation as of yet, so we know who’s in the movie but not who they’re playing) and they are (drum roll): Ben Foster (The Messenger, 3:10 to Yuma, X-Men: The Last Stand), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Precious), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of Titans, War Horse), and Rob Kazinsky (True Blood, Pacific Rim). Dominic Cooper (Captain America, An Education) is expected to finalize his deal with Legendary soon.

Details on the movie have been scarce, but we do know that production is slated to start early next year, and the movie will have two iconic characters from Warcraft lore: Lothar and Durotan. Which means the movie (or some parts of it, at any rate) will take place a generation prior to the events in World of Warcraft and, nicely, tie in to the WoW expansion set to come out next year, Warlords of Draenor.

Michael Keaton Joins The Cast Of Dreamworks ‘Need For Speed’ Adaptation

Dreamworks Need For Speed adaptation has added another big name to it’s cast. Oddly enough, it’s an actor who has another movie, MGM’s Robocop, coming out the same day. Michael Keaton has signed on to join the cast of Scott Waugh’s of the Electronic Arts streetracing game of the same name. Keaton will play a “reclusive and eccentric host of an underground supercar race where he invites the best drivers from around the world.”

The film, which stars Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger) centers on “a local street racer who partners with a rich and arrogant business associate, only to find himself framed by his colleague and sent to prison. After his stint in the joint, he joins a New York-to-Los Angeles race to get revenge. But when the ex-partner learns of the scheme, he puts a massive bounty on the racer’s head, forcing him to run a cross-country gauntlet of illegal racers in all manner of supercharged vehicles.”

 
Need For Speed is set to hit theaters February 7, 2014.
