Speaking with MTV Geek at Toy Fair, writer and creator of the series, Todd McFarlane offered an update on the status of the next Spawn film. It was revealed back in 2009 that McFarlane was working on a new film, which would be quite different than the original. The writer reveals that he is still currently working on the script, and that an Oscar-winning actor is on board for the project.

spawn-update-2

“I continue writing pages here and there. I have a guy waiting in the sidelines, an Academy Award-winning actor. Every three weeks he’s on the phone going, ‘Todd, where’s the script? Todd, where’s the script?’ I can’t say who it is. You could [narrow it down].”

“He came out to the office. He gave me his pitch, and I gave him mine. The pitch I gave was that we could do ten of these for the next ten years and he wouldn’t have to be 22 for the rest of his life.”

McFarlane also revealed that there is a new Spawn animated series is in the works, saying that they’re now able to do things that weren’t when working on the HBO series from the late 90’s.

spawn-update-3

“We have 90 minutes all set and ready to go, other than sending it to an animation house. We’ve done all the voice recordings, we’ve done all the backgrounds, so the technology is way better than it was a decade ago; there are some spectacular things we can do now that we weren’t able to when we were on HBO.”

Well, unlike Al Simmons, it appears this project isn’t quite dead yet.

Filming is set to begin in just a few short months on Jame Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and it was just recently revealed that Chris Pratt had signed on for the lead. Well, now it appears that we may know the latest addition to the cast of Marvel’s upcoming space-epic.

According to Latino Review, a fairly reliable source when it comes to Marvel Studios News, Jason Momoa (Games Of Thrones, Bullet To The Head) is currently in negotiations for the role of the Drax The Destroyer. Word is that the actor not only screen-tested for the role in London just last Wednesday, but that “Momoa’s screen test went so good that Marvel offered him the part and his reps have now countered, so the negotiations are ongoing.” If this turns out to be true, expect an official announcement to hit in the next few days.

While speaking with Hit Fix doing promotion for Jack The Giant Slayer, director Bryan Singer spoke more about the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past, which begins shooting in April. This time around Singer stated that Days Of Future Past is more of its own thing than an actual sequel.

uncanny-x-men-142-wolverine-storm

“This movie’s gonna be not only quite epic, ‘Days of Future Past,’ but it also takes place in completely different times than the ‘X-Men’ movies have taken place. There’ll be new technology, new things we haven’t seen before in ‘X-Men’ films. Certain characters and certain story and certain drama that hasn’t be done yet, so it’s not so much sequel. It’s more of its own kinda thing.”

One of the biggest problems fans have had with the X-films has been some continuity errors ( there are a few major ones), and some had wondered if they were rebooting the series with X-Men: First Class (which Singer was a producer on). Well, it appears that Singer may be out to fix some of these problems. When asked if the film was a sort-of reset for the franchise, Singer stated with a smile:

“I’ll be able to correct a few things.”

Well, hopefully one of those things is correcting how Scott Summers got the shaft in X3. We’re just saying.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is set to hit theaters July 18th, 2014.

Not too long ago director Marc Webb recently revealed that there would be a few new alterations to the suit in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. He revealed that there would be “bigger eyes” and “gnarly web shooters” for the new suit. Well, as you can see from the video that the director tweeted earlier there are definitely larger eyes on this suit that are closer to the “classic” look of the hero.

The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is set to hit theaters May 2, 2014.

Yesterday when we reported the news, were you one of the many people who believed that actor Peter Dinklage would be playing fan-favorite Puck in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past? Well, you can throw that idea right out the window. Variety has revealed that the Golden Globe winning actor will actually be playing the main antagonist of the film.

“In it is unknown at this time what character Dinklage would be playing but sources have told Variety it would be the main antagonist.”

There’s quite a few characters that Dinklage could be playing. With the Sentinels being used in the film, could we see Dinlkage appear as their creator? Or could be possibly even be that all CG character that Singer was considering? There’s plenty of exciting possibilities regarding who he could be playing in the film. As we get closer to the film starting shooting in April, we should learn more regarding the actor’s role. Keep checking back for more updates.

When it was revealed that Paul Giamatti would be joining the cast of the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, there was also word that British actress Felicity Jones was in talks to join the film as well. Now, in an interview with Dutch website RTL Netherlands, Felicity Jones has confirmed that she will indeed star in the highly anticipated sequel. The actress told the site:

“I’ve never done a superhero movie. It’s very nice to you as an actor in several worlds to go and to experiment.”

The actress refused to reveal to the site just who she will be playing in the film. While she could possibly just have a small role in the film, the secrecy may lead many to believe she could have a bigger role than expected. With Marc Webb building a Spider-verse there’s a good number of characters the actress could be playing. Let the speculation commence!

The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is set to hit theaters May 2nd, 2014.

Bryan Singer is calling X-Men: Days Of Future Past  “the biggest movie he’s ever made” and it seems like every week it’s just getting bigger. Bryan Singer has just revealed that Game Of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage is the latest addition to the massive cast of the highly-anticipated next film in the franchise.

There are no details regarding just what the role is, but there’s one character that many may assume the actor could be playing. Is there a chance we may be seeing the Canadian fan-favorite Puck making a big screen debut? Us here at Geekscape certainly hope so. It seems like Singer still has some big announcements on the way and we can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us.

UPDATE: Well, Dinklage definitely isn’t playing Puck. It’s been revealed that he will play the film’s main antagonist. Let the speculation begin on just which X-villain we will see the actor play.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is scheduled to hit theaters July 17, 2014.

We’ve been hearing quite about recently from Bryan Singer regarding the highly-anticipated X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and while speaking with Collider the director has given away a few new details regarding the film including confirming when the film begins shooting.

“I start shooting April 15th in Montreal, probably until October.”

“It’s a big movie. It’ll be the biggest movie I’ve ever made.”

1881056-xmen_schism_1_preview1_1_02f

It was recently revealed that the film would be set in the 70’s and Singer goes on to confirm that as well as revealing someone who will be making an appearance in the film.

“Richard Nixon’s in it, that’ll be an interesting casting choice… There’ll also be some more science-fiction-type aspects to the story and, without giving it away, some technology that we haven’t seen yet in the X-Men universe.”

Could they be replacing Senator Kelly (who was the target of an assassination plot in the original story) with Richard Nixon? Quite possibly. And what about this new technology not “seen yet in the X-Men universe”? Could he be referring to the Sentinels or something completely different? Guess we’re going to have to wait until the film hits screens next year.

While speaking with Cinema Blend, Marvel’s Executive Vice President Victoria Alonso offered up a little bit of info about Jame Gunn’s upcoming space-epic Guardians Of The Galaxy. Alonso revealed that production on the film has already begun and that filming will begin in just a few months.

“Production has already started! Completely. It started months ago and we have an entire team in London already – we start shooting in June. Our director [James Gunn] travels next week and it’s going, baby! It’s a fast train to a beautiful place.”

Alonso also commented on how they’re handling bringing Rocket Raccoon and Groot to life on the big screen:

rr-groot

“We’re going to do a combination. You can’t do any motion capture with a raccoon – they won’t let you put the suit on [laughs]. But we will do rotomation, probably, for some of the behavior. Rocket will have his own personality, of course, and clearly we can’t do mocap on a tree, per say, but we definitely will have performers to emulate what James Gunn will lead to be the behavior and the performance. He’s very clear on where he wants to take the characters.”

James Gunn really has one of the hardest jobs of Marvel’s “Phase Two” here with this film, but we couldn’t be more excited to see the results.

Bryan Singer has given yet another indirect answer in regard to a popular character returning for X-Men: Days Of Future Past. While speaking with The Huffington Post about Jack The Giant Slayer, Singer was asked if we could see Alan Cummings (who has expressed interest in the film) make a return to the franchise as Nightcrawler. Singer responded:

large x-men 2 blu-ray3x

“I don’t know. We’ll see. You know … we’ll see.”

When asked if he was implying something, Singer responded with:

“I don’t want to … sometimes you don’t want to say “yes” or “no” to something that may not be a “yes” or a “no,” or anything. I haven’t decided yet, a few things.”

The script for the film is still being finished up and there’s a chance that a few more characters may be added into the film. Based on his response though, this sounds like one character that Singer is definitely considering bringing back to the franchise.

The CW’s hit DC Comics television adaptation Arrow (that most of us here at Geekscape love), which stars Stephen Amell as Green Oliver Queen, has been a success ever since it first premiered last October. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the network has chosen to pick up the series for a second season. Check out the full press release below.

The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit ARROW, its top-rated drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. All three shows will return in Fall 2013.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit ARROW and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do ARROW, SUPERNATURAL, and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

One of the true breakout hits of the season, ARROW posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3mil). Heading into its fifth season next fall, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES remains The CW’s highest rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also continues to be one of the network’s top performing shows digitally and socially; in fact, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES recently topped Trendrr’s list as network TV’s #1 social program for the week of January 21–27.

The Winchester brothers of SUPERNATURAL will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season. Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

After nearly 10 years on the book, Geoff Johns will be stepping down as the writer of Green Lantern. The writer, who was tasked with making Green Lantern relevant again and influenced the big screen adaptation of the character, has announced he will be leaving the title this May to focus on other titles that he is currently writing. Johns stated:

blackest_night_2_1600x1200

“I’m really proud of all the stuff we’ve built with Green Lantern, from Larfleeze to the different corps. The universe has expanded and will live well past my run. It was more than just telling another story, but really giving back to the character by expanding and adding to their mythology.”

Johns will be focusing more of his effort on Justice League, Justice League Of America, and Aquaman.  Johns has promised a huge departure issue for the series when his run ends with issue #20, which will be a 64 page issue drawn by Doug Mahkne.

With production about to being on X-Men: Days Of Future Past, you’d think they had the whole cast lined up. However, director Bryan Singer keeps adding characters from the franchise and with a number of cast from the original trilogy on board, some have wondered if we would see the return of Halle Berry as Storm. It seems that Singer really isn’t even sure at the moment himself.

“I can’t say. I don’t know yet. And it’s not necessarily a deal making aspect at all. I want to make sure it’ll make sense.”

Singer also isn’t revealing yet just who the main character or characters of the film are going to be, but does confirm that every character has purpose in the upcoming sequel to X-Men: First Class.

“I don’t want to say who the protagonists are yet, or talk about that yet, but I will say that every character has a very important function in the story. The story is designed and catered to the combined cast. It’s not just throwing in people to occupy the screen, occupy the billboards.”

Singer also went on to state that the plot of the films story is very much geared around the central cast. With filming expected to begin in a few months, we should expect to hear the final cast line-up very soon.

Just this past week it was revealed that both Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Elizabeth Olsen (Liberal Arts) were both in talks to join Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) in Legendary Pictures Godzilla. Now, while talking at tonight’s BAFTA awards, the young actress has confirmed that she has indeed signed on for the Gareth Edwards helmed film and promises that the film will be a very “different take” than the previous incarnations of the legendary Monster.

““I’m about to film Godzilla in the Spring so that’s the next thing I’m working on!””

With production set to begin next month, expect some official casting announcements regarding the film very soon.

Godzilla is set to hit theaters May 16th, 2014.

With the robotic revolution in full force, no fan can miss how Age of Ultron will ultimately change the Marvel Universe leaving no hero or villain unscathed!

There’s a chance that we may see Bryan Singer introduce a completely CG character in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. While Singer isn’t giving away any specifics, he is definitely interested in using the same technology that he used on Jack The Giant Slayer in the follow-up to X-Men: First Class.

Singer: I definitely want to use this technology again, and I might even be using some of it in a different way in “X-Men.” I don’t wanna say how, yet, but I’m definitely using some of this technology on “X-Men” which I never used in any of the other “X-Men” films.

MTV: Are you talking about creating a fully CGI character in “Days of Future Past”?

Singer: That’s the thing I don’t want to talk about. I’m not sure. I’m doing research on it now.

1881056-xmen_schism_1_preview1_1_02f

Now, the obvious would be that he would use this technology for creating the Sentinels in the film. Based on his statement though, is there a chance that he could also use the technology for a mutant character? Definitely. And there’s plenty of mutants out there that this kind of technology would work for. Let the speculation commence.

Cargo CEO Marina Grasic stated:

“Tod is a dynamic filmmaker whose work has been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. He brings a unique and exciting vision to Cell that will appeal to audiences worldwide.”

Unfamiliar with the novel? Check out the synopsis below:

Artist Clayton Riddell had been in Boston negotiating a successful deal to sell his comic book project. His joy at finally hitting it big is shattered by an event called The Pulse which causes all those who were using their cell phones at the time of The Pulse to become zombies attacking and killing anyone in their way. Fortunately for Clay, he does not own a cell phone. In the panic to get out of Boston and find his way home to his wife and son in Maine, he is joined by Tom McCourt, a man he meets in the meleé immediately following The Pulse and a young girl, Alice, who they rescue from being killed by one of the “crazies.” The story follows their terrifying journey, avoiding capture—and worse—by the “crazies” who are beginning to “flock” and are led by one they call Raggedy Man as they attempt to reach Maine and a place called Kashwak which they hope will be their salvation.

MANU BENNETT (“SPARTACUS”) GUEST STARS AS SLADE WILSON — After Oliver (Stephen Amell) is shot, he turns to a surprising person for help – Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Diggle (David Ramsey) is stunned when he sees Felicity walk through the front door of the lair dragging a dying Oliver behind her, and the two team up to save Oliver’s life. As Oliver (Stephen Amell) hovers between life and death, he flashes back to a seminal event on the island – a daring escape attempt with his new friend Slade Wilson (guest star Manu Bennett). Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland, Paul Blackthorne and Susanna Thompson also star. John Behring directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim (#114).

The latest bit of information about Justice League is far from good news. There’s a chance that the film, which Warner Bros. aimed for a 2015 release, may get scrapped in general. After his film Gangster Squad did so horribly at the box office, Warner Bros. began debating whether or not to go in a different direction with the project. According to Bad Ass Digest, and their multiple sources, the script for the film from Will Beall is horrible… so horrible that Warner Bros. may be losing faith in the project and could scrap it altogether or begin the search for a new writer.

JUSTICE-LEAGUE2

The sources state that the script is “half-baked from the beginning”, and constantly adds and subtracts characters, with no point to them appearing, outside of the “main five” who are supposed to appear in the film. With the script being so bad for the film, Warner Bros. is unable to attach a director to the project.

While none of this is officially confirmed, it does sound quite a bit like what I have been hearing regarding Will Beall’s script. With Warner Bros. in a rush to compete with The Avengers rather than take their time with the project, things aren’t looking good for Justice League at all. However, the movie does still sit on the shoulders of Man Of Steel at the moment. If that film is successful, Warner Bros. may choose the route of finding a new writer for the script.

MTV Geek has scored some images for the limited edition Blu-Ray case for the third season of the The Walking Dead. Just add a little water and you too can sit creepily in a chair staring at the the miniature tank-full of decapitated Walker heads just like The Governor!

twds3blu2 (2) twds3blu2 (1)

The case was created by Todd McFarlane who stated:

“We thought it would be fun for the consumer, after buying the case and taking it home, had to get a little interactive, because we’re not supplying the water! So you’re going to have to fill up the tanks yourself, and we’ve got little hooks on the heads, so you can arrange them any way you see fit. You can hang them in a certain order, or you can just let them go to the ground and flop around. No one person’s case has to be exactly like the other’s.”

There’s currently no release date set yet, but expect it to be available sometime later this year.

We’ve slowly been learning more and more about Bryan Singer’s upcoming return to the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Now, the actor who portrayed Iceman in the first three X-Men films, Shawn Ashmore, talked to IGN and commented on returning to the franchise to play Bobby Drake aka Iceman in the sequel to X-Men: First Class. Ashmore commented briefly on returning to the franchise and when he realized he was going to be a part of the new film:

ashmore-xm

“When I heard it was Days of Future Past I knew it was time travel, but the only time I ever really thought, ‘Oh, maybe I’m actually going to be a part of this’ is when Bryan came back to direct. And that’s just because we have a relationship and had worked together before. I just thought, ‘Oh, maybe Bryan would want to bring back some of the people he worked with before.’ Before that I had no idea, and I didn’t theorize too much because that’s when you get your hopes up.”

Ashmore commented on whether or not he’s read the script yet and what fans should expected from it:

“I know about the script, but I haven’t been able to read the script. (Laughs) I haven’t read the script, but I have a very good idea of what’s happening and what my role is. I know, but I’m sworn to secrecy.”

“I think the take on the story is really interesting. I think that Days of Future Past, as any X-Men fans knows, is a great arc. I love the idea of combining and bringing some cohesion to the two timelines that are happening now. I think that’s exciting. Obviously the First Class cast is incredible, and having Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman interact with other cast members is going to be really exciting. Not only is the combination of the cast going to be really cool, but the story itself is going to be really fun.”

Ashmore will join Michael Fassbender, James MacAvoy, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Ellen Page, Hugh Jackman, Ann Pacquin and many more in the next X-film. Hopefully we get some new casting announcements very soon.

“It’s a way of doing a superhero film within another genre. I wanted to tell an origin tale in a slightly different way. It’s part of the Marvel cinematic universe, but it also feels like its own piece.”

“I’ve been collaborating with [Marvel boss] Kevin [Feige] during the whole of that cycle. I think people have always assumed… ‘Oh why is it taking so long to make?’ Part of it is because I wanted to make two other movies first. I wanted to make World’s End… me and Simon were very keen to make it and it felt like it was unfinished business and we wanted to wrap up the trilogy. The script came together really fast. Well not really fast, but it came together at a certain point where it was like ‘I really want to do this next.’”

“But to be honest, the later I do it, it feels like I could learn more, especially about special effects. It’s a big effects movie, so I’m pleased to go into it having done Scott Pilgrim and The World’s End because you’re always learning more about that side.”

Wright also commented on the test reel shown at San Diego Comic-Con, which has been rumored to be shown off at some point:

“I hope that at some point we’ll be able to show that at some venue all finished. Because obviously at Comic-Con we showed it unfinished. All done it looks really good.”

It’s been recently confirmed that the highly-antcipated solo outing for Ant-Man would kick off Marvel’s “Phase Three”. Now, it’s time to begin the rumor mill on just which incarnation of the character we will see and who will be the actor to fill the role.

Ant-Man is set to hit theaters November 6th, 2015.
