Speaking with MTV Geek at Toy Fair, writer and creator of the series, Todd McFarlane offered an update on the status of the next Spawn film. It was revealed back in 2009 that McFarlane was working on a new film, which would be quite different than the original. The writer reveals that he is still currently working on the script, and that an Oscar-winning actor is on board for the project.

“I continue writing pages here and there. I have a guy waiting in the sidelines, an Academy Award-winning actor. Every three weeks he’s on the phone going, ‘Todd, where’s the script? Todd, where’s the script?’ I can’t say who it is. You could [narrow it down].”

“He came out to the office. He gave me his pitch, and I gave him mine. The pitch I gave was that we could do ten of these for the next ten years and he wouldn’t have to be 22 for the rest of his life.”

McFarlane also revealed that there is a new Spawn animated series is in the works, saying that they’re now able to do things that weren’t when working on the HBO series from the late 90’s.

“We have 90 minutes all set and ready to go, other than sending it to an animation house. We’ve done all the voice recordings, we’ve done all the backgrounds, so the technology is way better than it was a decade ago; there are some spectacular things we can do now that we weren’t able to when we were on HBO.”

Well, unlike Al Simmons, it appears this project isn’t quite dead yet.

MTV Geek has scored some images for the limited edition Blu-Ray case for the third season of the The Walking Dead. Just add a little water and you too can sit creepily in a chair staring at the the miniature tank-full of decapitated Walker heads just like The Governor!

The case was created by Todd McFarlane who stated:

“We thought it would be fun for the consumer, after buying the case and taking it home, had to get a little interactive, because we’re not supplying the water! So you’re going to have to fill up the tanks yourself, and we’ve got little hooks on the heads, so you can arrange them any way you see fit. You can hang them in a certain order, or you can just let them go to the ground and flop around. No one person’s case has to be exactly like the other’s.”

There’s currently no release date set yet, but expect it to be available sometime later this year.

The Walking Dead returns Sunday February 10th.

Assassin’s Creed fans, it’s time to clear some space on your toy shelf… You do have a toy shelf, right?

Ubisoft and Mcfarlane Toys announced today an agreement to create action figures based on the Assassins Creed series. The figures will launch later this year, and prototypes of each will be shown off at this year’s International Toy Fair (booth #4921 if you’re going) .

Series one will consist of seven figures, including Connor and Haytham Kenway; each will stand ~6-inches tall and feature over 25 points of articulation. Price-wise, you’re looking at $15-16 per unit, which will be well worth it for the typical quality of Mcfarlane figures.

A cool bonus for gamers, straight from Macfarlane himself:

“We’re always looking to raise the bar with our figures, and Ubisoft has been a great partner to help make that happen. These will be the first McFarlane Toys to include integration with the game itself. Our Assassin’s Creed figures will include codes that unlock unique content in game – things like new weapons, clothing colors, or other customization options. Features like this reward the hardcore fans who buy the figures, and give collectors some added value.”

Sign me up! Are you into these? Which characters would you like to see in the next series?
