Briefly: Big news for comic book fans on the TV front today.

First up, even though it hasn’t been performing as well as anticipated, it’s no surprise that the kinda-sucked-but-now-is-pretty-sweet Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for a second season over at ABC.

Next, an Agent Carter series has officially been ordered to series. Hayley Atwell will star, and here’s the first official description:

‘Marvel’s Agent Carter,’ starring ‘Captain America’’s Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

Inspired by the feature films ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ along with the short ‘Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.’ ‘Marvel’s Agent Carter’ stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter. Executive producers are Michele Fazekas & Tara Butters, Steve McFeely & Christopher Marcus, and Jeph Loeb.

On the CW front, along with renewing Arrow, the network has picked up The Flash for a full season, as well as an adaptation of Vertigo’s iZombie. Here’s the synopsis for iZombie:

“A med student-turned-zombie takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. Cast: Rose McIver (Liv).”

and The Flash (plus that shot of star Grant Gustin in costume… again):

FlashFull

Based upon characters published by DC Comics. Through a freak accident, scientist Barry Allen is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive. Cast: Grant Gustin (Barry Allen); Jesse L. Martin (Det. West); Tom Cavanaugh (Harrison Wells).

Over at NBC, Constantine has been picked up for a full season. Look below for the shot of Matt Ryan as, well, John Constantine. The synopsis for this one has also been revealed.

Constantine

Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.

That’s a lot of news for one day. What are you excited for? What are you planning to skip? Be sure to let us know! We’ll be sure to fill you in on episode numbers and premiere dates as soon as they’re announced!

Briefly: Looks like it’s good night for Techland’s Dying Light… at least for 2014.

The developer today announced that Dying Light would join the list of next-gen titles to miss their initial release date. It really seems to be happening to all the games that I’m most excited for.

Here’s what Techland said about the delay:

Dear Gamers,

We know you’ve been waiting on a Dying Light release date for quite some time now. After careful consideration, we have decided to release our upcoming game in February 2015. Since this means Dying Light will launch a few months later than originally planned, we feel obliged to explain the reasons that influenced this important decision.

When we started the development of Dying Light, we were committed to innovation. We wanted to give you a freedom of movement unprecedented in open-world games. After many improvements and months of hard work, we have now come so close to realizing our initial vision we feel we cannot stop before it is ready.

We believe the Natural Movement element of our game will change what you expect from the genre, and we don’t want to sacrifice any of its potential by releasing too early. This quality-focused thinking underlines all our development choices and we hope you share our belief that the gameplay must always come first.

The new date ensures that we can fully realize our vision of an innovative open-world game. We won’t need to make compromises or trade-offs on any of the five platforms we’re working on. For you, it means an outstanding, original game that makes the wait more than worthwhile.

Finally, we would like to thank our publishing partner, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which fully supports our decision. It’s a real pleasure to work in an environment where quality is universally accepted as the top priority. We believe that this is the only way to make truly incredible games.
We also have an additional announcement for you: starting next month at E3 2014, we’ll be telling you much more about all the exciting features and different aspects of Dying Light. Stay tuned!

Are you looking forward to the title? Were you a fan of Dead Island? Sound out below!

Briefly: The Elder Scrolls Online launched in early April to thousands and thousands of eager fans, and Bethesda ensured us at the time that the console version would soon follow.

Not as soon as we’d hoped, apparently, as both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game have seen a lengthy delay. Here’s the word, straight from Bethesda:

We’ve been grateful to our fans for the wonderful response to our recent launch of The Elder Scrolls Online for PC/Mac, but we know many of you are eagerly waiting to play the game on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks — which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other-has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve.

We know that the news of an ESO console delay is as disappointing to many of you as it is to us. We want to do what we can to make it up to our fans who want to start playing now, so we have worked out the following arrangement with Sony and Microsoft:

Via a special offer, anyone who purchases and plays the PC/Mac version of The Elder Scrolls Online by the end of June will have the opportunity to transfer their character(s) to either console version when they are released. The offer will allow you to begin playing immediately on the PC/Mac, and then add the PS4 or Xbox One version and transfer the character(s) you have created and developed. And, you don’t have to pay full price for the game twice. For $20, eligible PC and Mac players will have the option to add a full, digital version of ESO on either the PS4 or the Xbox One with your character transfer(s), and another 30 days of included game time.

Whether you decide to take advantage of this offer or not, we promise to do everything we can to get the game released on both consoles as quickly as we can. We will keep everyone updated with additional details regarding character transfers, specific offer dates, when you can expect console beta to start, and of course, when ESO on consoles will launch.

Thank you for your patience and loyal support.

Briefly: Following the new stills from a few weeks back, Fox has just debuted the theatrical trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The new preview digs deep into the film’s plot, outlining the touching relationship between Caesar and Jason Clarke’s Malcolm. It also outlines how that relationship is doomed to fail… because we’re humans, mostly.

As a huge fan of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I’m immensely looking forward to this one. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theatres on July 11th.

In ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Briefly: An awesome new Marvel exhibit is set to open in New York on May 23rd, and we’ve got some of the first pieces of concept art!

Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. is a completely immersive, interactive exhibit experience that brings visitors into the world of The Avengers. Leading EdTech innovator Gamedesk created S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) based educational pathways for the exhibition, bringing to life the science behind Marvel Super Heroes and allows fans to participate in a simulated recruitment, as if they were being trained as agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Within the exhibition, visitors will map out the stars to find Asgard, learn to operate Iron Man’s suit, witness the neurological effects of Bruce Banner’s transformation into the Hulk, physically test themselves against Captain America, and receive access to some of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s most highly guarded artifacts recovered after the Battle of New York such as Captain America’s Birth Pod, the Tesseract Portal Device, Loki’s Scepter, a hermetically sealed Chitauri and more.

The exhibit looks (and sounds) absolutely awesome, and we can’t wait to see video from the exhibit (since we’re not in New York to attend it ourselves). Take a look at the concept art below, and let us know if you’ll be checking it out!

Briefly: MTV has just debuted a new red band trailer for A Million Ways To Die In The West.

It’s probably one of the most NSFW trailers that I’ve ever seen, and it’s absolutely hilarious. Seriously.

A Million Ways To Die In The West stars Seth MacFarlane (who also directed, produced, and co-wrote the film), Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! The film hits theatres on May 30th!

Seth MacFarlane directs, produces, co-writes and plays the role of the cowardly
sheep farmer Albert in A Million Ways to Die in the West. After Albert backs out
of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious
and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin
to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge,
the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

Briefly: Godzilla is almost here, and as you know, we couldn’t be more excited!

A new featurette has just hit the web, this time detailing the film’s extensive conversion to 3D. The post-conversion method is often controversial, but when done right, can often look almost as good as something natively shot in the format.

Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Godzilla hits theatres on May 16th!

Briefly: X-Men: Days of Future Past is just two weeks away from theatres, and Yahoo! has just launched an awesome interview with Hugh Jackman… being interviewed by Hugh Jackman.

Yep, they sent him back to 1999, and the two have a conversation about X-Men, comic book movies, Hugh’s career, which of his films have been the best, and which ones to avoid. It’s pretty hilarious, and definitely worth the watch.

Check out the video below, and let us know what you think! X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres on May 22nd!

Note: The following review contains light spoilers for the Godzilla: Awakening graphic novel. You’ve been warned.

At this point, you know how decidedly excited all of us here at Geekscape are for Legendary Entertainment’s Godzilla. Ever since attending last year’s Godzilla Encounter at SDCC (well, some of us even before that), we’ve been absolutely enthralled with the project. We’ve posted nearly every image, trailer, teaser, sound bite, and more, and some of our lives may feel oddly empty once the film releases and the marketing is finished (what will we do with all that free time).

But we’re not done yet. And Godzilla: Awakening, the graphic novel prequel to this month’s film, will just be hitting shelves by the time these thoughts are published. The book just arrived on my desk, and obviously, I just couldn’t wait to jump in.

GZA_page 2

Much like last year’s Pacific Rim (which we loved) had its Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero prequel, Godzilla: Awakening spans a timeline long before the film ever started. Godzilla: Awakening literally means awakening, taking us all the way back to a time long before humans roamed the Earth. It’s a realistic origin story for the king of the monsters, and explains the natural predator / prey chain that I’m sure will continue in the film.

The film’s screenwriter Max Borenstein (who I just published an excellent interview with) returns to co-write the book with his cousin Greg Borenstein. The book’s gorgeous art comes from Eric Battle (X-Men, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman), Yvel Guichet (Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero, Superboy Annual, End of Nations), Alan Quah (Rage, The Vampire Diaries, Anywhere) and Lee Loughridge (Batman Adventures, Arkham Asylum: Living Hell, Marvel Zombies Return), and that breathtaking cover was drawn by Arthur Adams (Godzilla, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Uncanny X-Men).

The book is tells us the story of Mr. Serizawa, a man who was present at the bombing of Hiroshima, and who would go on to spend much of his life trying to find Godzilla (referenced only as Gojira in the book), as he firmly believes that the monster is the key to saving the Earth from the Shinomura (which is probably the MUTO seen in the film). The story is told through a multitude of flashbacks, as Mr. Serizawa reveals to Ichiro (his son, and Ken Wantanabe’s character in the film) that he didn’t actually work for a shipping company, and just why he wasn’t always there while Ichiro grew up. Serizawa firmly believes that the eon-spanning battle between Godzilla and the Shinomura is not over, and that before Ichiro’s time is up, the world will see the two again. Obviously, he’s right.

GZA_ page 3

The book is extremely coherent and gorgeous throughout (though a slightly confusing layout on a few pages had me looking over them multiple times just to make sense of them), and Awakening does its job of setting up next week’s film extraordinarily. I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to any fan of the character or film, but I almost wish that I hadn’t read it until after seeing the movie. Of course, I have no way of knowing until I actually see the film, but things seem rather spoilery here. For the most part, Legendary and Warner Bros. have kept the film’s Godzilla and MUTOs well hidden, but here they battle often and through a variety of generations, we learn about both their ancient origins, and learn that Godzilla is not our enemy, but the Shinomura’s. It should give great insight to Ken Wantanabe’s character in the film, but it’s insight that I’d rather have learned after the fact.

I loved this book, but I think that I may have experienced it just a little too early. If you have any interest in the character or the film, I think that you’re thoroughly enjoy it, but I’d recommend picking it up and leaving it wrapped on your shelf until you get home from your screening; I feel as though the film will surprise you even more that way, and you’ll have a much easier time connecting the two.

Godzilla: Awakening scores a monstrous 4/5. It’s on store shelves today (May 7th), or you can order it from Amazon.

Looking for more Godzilla? Here’s my interview with screenwriter Max Borenstein!

Briefly: Activision Blizzard just held their quarterly earnings call, and while they announced the news that World of Warcraft subscriptions again fell slightly (from 7.8 to 7.6 million subscribers… still a huge number), they did reveal that the game’s next expansion, Warlords of Draenor has already received over 1 million pre-orders.

Pre-orders just opened on March 10th, so that’s a lot of people pre-paying for the next chunk of content.

SJ detailed the expansion during BlizzCon. Have you picked up your copy yet? What are you most excited for?

I’m pretty addicted to Hearthstone right now myself.

Briefly: The Epic Rap Battle series is alway hilarious, but as a fan of both The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, this instantly became on of my favourites.

It’s Rick Grimes vs. Walter White, and there are a ton of laugh out loud moments. Check it out below!

Briefly: We saw the gorgeous yet mysterious first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar all the way back in December. The trailer was as teaser-y as possible, not revealing any of the film’s plot (or actors outside of Matthew McConaughey, but instead focussing on the once prominent (but now all but lost) idea of breaking barriers, aiming higher, discovering space and furthering the knowledge of our species.

Today, the first teaser poster for the film was released online. It continues the trend of vague yet powerful statements with “Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here.”

The full trailer for Interstellar will debut with Godzilla next week, so hopefully we’ll learn more about the project then! For now, take a look at the new poster below, and let us know what you think!

Interstellar

Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

Briefly: We are so excited for WolfCop.

The film hits select theatres in my home country (Canada) on June 6th, while the rest of the world will have to wait until September. We posted the freaky, campy, hilarious first trailer last week, but in case you missed it, take a look below before reading further.

Amazing, right? WolfCop would have made a perfect fake trailer in-between Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse films, but instead we’re getting a complete feature film… and maybe more.

It’s a property that’s ripe for expansion, and WolfCop‘s creators are very interested in taking it further. They’ve set up a fantastic IndieGogo campaign that still has a cool 13 days left to raise funds, and there are plenty of amazing rewards up for grabs. Seriously, these may be some of the best collectibles that I’ve seen from a crowdfunding campaign. Just look at this stuff:

Prototype of the 'WolfCop' action figure.

And that gorgeous one-sheet, complete with PERFECT tagline!

The entire property is hilarious, and I can definitely see fans (or soon to be fans) jumping on all of these awesome goodies. There are plenty of other rewards available too, including premiere tickets, soundtracks (on vinyl even), Blu-Rays / DVD’s, and more.

The campaign is already well over its $10,000 goal, so with each and every contribution you’ll help WolfCop go further and further.

Excited? We sure are. Head to WolfCop‘s IndieGogo campaign page here, and let us know which rewards you’ll be grabbing!

Briefly: The graphics look pretty bad, but it’s Godzilla related, so of course we’re into it.

Godzilla: Strike Zone has just launched on Android and iOS devices, and Legendary Entertainment has just released a trailer to accompany it.

The free to play title looks to mix first-person shooting with gyroscope HALO jumps, and could be fun.

Briefly: I haven’t actually had an opportunity to check Salem out yet, but from the series’ full trailer, I’m definitely hoping to get around to it soon.

The dramatic outing has been rather successful for WGN America, as the series premiere brought in over 1.5 million viewers.

Season two will consist of 13 episodes, and will air in 2015.

Matt Cherniss, WGN America president states that “The talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers. We look forward to bringing more great storytelling, scares and surprises to viewers as the saga unfolds.”

Briefly: The Walking Dead has just added a new series regular.

The Wire‘s Seth Gilliam has joined the series in a yet-unspecified role. This marks the third The Wire cast member to join the show, as Chad Coleman (Tyreese) and Larry Gilliard Jr (Bob) also had roles on the HBO series.

No information about Gilliam’s role have been revealed, but THR thinks that he may be playing Gabriel Stokes, a troubled preacher introduced in issue 61, who has managed to survive a very long time, and is still featured prominently in the comic book.

Do you think that Gilliam would make a good Stokes? Is there anyone else you’d rather see in the role? How excited are you for season 5? Sound out below!

Briefly: We’ve been hearing casting news for months, and it’s not surprising at all, but Fox’s Gotham has finally been ordered to series.

EW broke the news this afternoon, and notes that first season will consist of “at least” 13 episodes.

The series will star Ben McKenzie as detective Jim Gordon, as well as Sara Paxton, Donal Logue, Jada Pinkett Smith, Erin Richeards, Sean Pertwee, David Mazouz, Camren Bicondove, Robin Taylor, Cory Michael Smith, and plenty of others.

Surprisingly, the first trailer for the series has also hit the web. Take a look at it in full below, and let us know what you think! Gotham is set to premiere this Fall!

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

“Gotham” is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), “Gotham” follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Growing up in Gotham City’s surrounding suburbs, James Gordon (Ben McKenzie, “Southland,” “The O.C.”) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards, Open Grave, “Breaking In”), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue, “Sons of Anarchy,” “Terriers,” “Vikings,” “Copper”), as the two stumble upon the city’s highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes’ hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, Bruce (David Mazouz, “Touch”), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy’s profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham’s criminal justice system, Gordon will confront imposing gang boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith, The Matrix films, “HawthoRNe,” Collateral), and many of the characters who will become some of fiction’s most renowned, enduring villains, including a teenaged Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (acting newcomer Camren Bicondova) and Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor, “The Walking Dead,” Another Earth).

Although the crime drama will follow Gordon’s turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara, “Burn Notice”), it also will focus on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, Alfred (Sean Pertwee, “Camelot,” “Elementary”). It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he’s destined to be.

Briefly: Disney revealed the initial cast for Star Wars Episode VII just a few days ago, leaving fans to wonder what the House of Mouse would have in store for us come Star Wars Day.

Now, we have the first full trailer for Star Wars Rebels, which will premiere this Fall on Disney XD.

Starring a small band of heroes — Sabine, Kanan, Hera, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper — Star Wars Rebels is set in a time where the Empire rules through fear and shrouds the galaxy in darkness. This trailer offers many new glimpses at sequences from the show, including the starship Ghost chased by TIE Fighters; young Ezra watching as a Star Destroyer looms overhead; Stormtroopers marching; a zero-g fight between our heroes and Imperials; and Kanan, a secret Jedi, assembling his lightsaber and preparing for battle. It ends, however, with an Imperial officer reporting to the Inquisitor — the Empire’s Jedi hunter, seen and heard here for the first time. Star Wars Rebels takes place between Star Wars: Episode III and IV as the Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy and a rebellion begins to form. The series, executive produced by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman, is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD.

Take a look at the trailer below, let us know what you think, and be sure to let us know if you did anything special for Star Wars Day!

Briefly: Here at Geekscape, we’ve been working hard to bring you plenty of quality content for our new YouTube channel, Geekscape TV.

So far, you’ve seen The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened? director Jon Schnepp detail his top 5 Superman stories, Jonathan playing some real life Mario Kart at SXSW, Stan Lee talking Marvel vs. DC (and more),  Lou Ferrigno playing Flappy Bird, of course Hero of the Prophecy, and much more!

We’ve got plenty more coming down the pipeline, but today we want to show you something very special. Our resident My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic super fan (or Brony, whatever you want to call him), Shane O’Hare was just in California for this year’s WonderCon, and he put together an excellent Rarity cosplay. Watch him detail his outfit, awkwardly hit on Nicole, and show off his finished product below!

Bronies and Cosplayers, how did Shane do? Don’t forget to subscribe to GeekscapeTV on Youtube, because we’ve got plenty more where this came from!

Briefly: All the way back in January we showed you images of the official The Simpsons Lego set. At that time, there were only unsubstantiated rumours of a Lego The Simpsons episode.

Those rumours turned out to be true, and the hilarious looking episode will air this Sunday. Fox has released a nearly two-minute trailer for the event, and we can’t wait to see the entire thing.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be watching this Sunday.

Briefly: Another day, another clip from this month’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This one takes us back in time, and shows us Beast meeting Wolverine for the first time. Hilarity, of course, ensures.

We’re all pretty excited for the film, and if the rest of the feature is anything like this clip, we’ll be in for a treat on May 22nd. Take a look at the clip below, and let us know what you think.

Briefly: This year’s iteration of Call of Duty has been revealed, and it actually looks quite a bit different than what we’ve seen before (at least within this series). It also looks as though it could act as Titanfall‘s non-existent single player campaign… so there’s that too.

It also stars Kevin Spacey, in the role that Kevin Spacey does best: bad guy.

As you can see from the trailer below, Advanced Warfare boasts some pretty impressive visuals, especially once we see Spacey’s insanely accurate, unmistakable face.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare hits store shelves on November 4th.

Briefly: Telltale has just debuted the very first screenshots for the next episode of The Walking Dead: Season 2, titled In Harm’s Way.

We still don’t know just when we’ll be able to play the episode, but Telltale typically doesn’t talk about or release anything from an episode until they’re almost ready to release it, so I’d look out for another update soon.

Take a look at the new screens below, and let us know what you’ve thought of the season so far!

This is the awesome story of my first convention adventure at this year’s Fan Expo Vancouver! Yay, more Pop! figures!

So, since this was my first expo or convention ever, I was pretty ecstatic for the whole experience. I’d heard tales of (my boyfriend) Derek’s many experiences at other conventions like San Diego Comic-Con, Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo, and Emerald City Comic-Con and I was obviously pretty envious! I decided I really wanted to attend one of these functions for myself and possibly even cosplay if I could gather up enough courage. Thankfully, Derek looked up some conventions that were close by and came up with Fan Expo Vancouver, which was very convenient since it was just a ferry ride away and rather affordable. I was super excited at this point, but also frustrated since it was about 3 months away (I’m not the most patient person in the world and I enjoy doing fun things so yeah, frustration) but this also gave me more time to get a costume together.

Thankfully, I got my costume all finished in time and I felt like I actually did a pretty good job. I was really quite proud of what I came up with (and very rarely have I been proud of something I made), so I was pretty confident and excited to wear my costume at the expo.

Me on costume day.
Me on costume day.

Since Derek and I live on an island, we had to take a ferry over to Vancouver, which I personally find quite peaceful, beautiful, relaxing and lovely (and long and annoying). Mostly, I was just excited to be heading out on an adventure with my boyfriend. The weather was wonderful the first day and I was just praying that it would stay that way throughout the weekend…it wasn’t quite as nice the following days, but it didn’t ruin any fun, that’s for sure. After the ferry, both Derek and I were rushing out of the harbour to get onto our bus that would take us pretty much right up to our hotel. Thanks to Derek’s horrible travelling skills we got a little lost and walked a couple extra blocks than we would’ve had to otherwise, but eventually we arrived at the hotel. We were a little early to check in, but we were able to leave our bags so that we could go out and explore some of Vancouver’s many restaurants. Some delicious, fresh Ramen noodles was our first meal there, and after that we had some time to check out the mall and get another good, long walk in. You see, I’m kind of lazy and don’t get much exercise these days, so this, for me, was pretty rough. Derek however, runs all the time and is just super cool like that so he had a fine time. We got back to the hotel and checked in. It wasn’t amazing, we had to climb pretty well about eleven floors to get to our room, (the elevator was out of service) though, that meant a cheaper stay for us, plus the room was actually very nice and cozy. Also, being on the top floor, we had an awesome view of downtown Vancouver.

We were nearing Fan Expo floor opening, and I was already trying to imagine what it would be like. All the people dressed up, the super awesome celebrities, and (hopefully) all the cool Pop! figures, and Totoro things and Minecraft things and… yeah, I was into buying things, that’s for sure.

So, we arrived. The Convention Centre was beautiful. It was clean and gigantic. It had some wonderful tile work, and interesting wood art hanging from the crazy high ceilings. Now that I think of it, I should’ve taken pictures! Damn. Anyways, it was a sweet building, and to me, fit perfectly for a convention. Once we got down to the show floor entrance area, Derek headed over to the special Press table to get his pass, while I headed down to get my super fresh Fan Expo shirt, bag with the Assassins Creed guy on it, lanyard and wristband. I was pretty pumped at this point, but decided to wait a half hour so that I could walk into the expo with Derek for my first experience. (since I got the premium pass I could go in 2 hours earlier, but we got to the convention centre a little later so that I wouldn’t have to wait so long for Derek to be allowed in).

My premium pass.
My premium pass.

Then, we were in. The first thing I could smell was the wonderful little mini donut stand, that sat right there at the entrance just drawing you in with that lovely donuty smell… but I wasn’t really all that interested in food at that point. I could already see a few of the booths. From what I could see, they were covered in merchandise. So much colour and busyness, it drew me right in. I was ready to spend lots of dough right then and there! Derek was smart though and suggested that we take a look at all the booths first, keeping in mind the things you wanted the most and to watch the pricing, because you could literally find a toy at one booth that seemed a pretty decent price, only to find the same one at another booth for much cheaper. I saw a Sailor Mercury figurine for fifty-something at one of the first booths I saw, but then saw the exact same one for about forty-something. That’s probably the first big lesson about conventions that stuck with me.

As we were zigzagging through, dodging people, wings, huge horns, armor, wigs, and weapons, I saw many many things I was eager to purchase (I wanted that little Totoro backpack so badly, I tell ya). I saw some gorgeous artwork done by people I had never heard of before. There’s so much hidden talent, I was amazed! It was really fun to flip through portfolios and just let my eyes wander. I ended up buying a beautiful print of a griffin. I was so excited to get it up on my wall at home and it actually motivated me to get back into drawing and possibly painting.

After exploring the booths rather thoroughly, I had decided we check out a Cosplay Panel to have some sit down time, but also because Cosplay is something I really want to get into. Unfortunately the panel wasn’t all that well organized and most of it was improv, but it was interesting to hear what the panelists had to say about their Cosplaying adventures, on making the costumes, and also wearing them. When the panel was over, it was the end of the first day. Though I was a little sad the first day was already over, I was super excited for the next day, being the longest day, with the most people and cosplayers! I as well was going to be dressing up, as San Princess Mononoke. I felt both nervous and ecstatic at the thought of what the next day could bring.

That night, we went out on the town to find some dinner. After walking up and down Robson Street, like 28 times it felt like, we both finally decided on this cool little Mongolian BBQ restaurant. It was pretty awesome. The chef dude was right at the front window just showing off his fresh cooking skills. The process was pretty neat as well. It was somewhat of a buffet like style. You would get one bowl and you could fill it with your choice of meat, veggies, noodles and a massive selection of sauces, and when you were finished filling it, you would just leave your bowl with your table number underneath it on a little counter by the chef. When he had finished cooking it, one of the waitresses would bring it back up to you. It was a lovely meal, and was actually quite healthy too. I really enjoyed it and was so happy to be out with Derek exploring new foods.

After, we got back up to our hotel room we watched a little South Park and then went to sleep, not too late, to make sure we had enough energy for the next day.

It was saturday! The day I decided I would dress up. I was nervous I’m not gonna lie, yet I was very pleased with my costume and was rather confident in it! Derek didn’t dress up unfortunately, but hey, he’s still super awesome.

We both wanted to have a good breakfast that morning, so we decided on waffles…or something like that anyways. Derek using one of his many cool apps, found a little place nearby called Waffles n’ Berries. There we had two wonderful, pretty much gourmet, Belgian waffles. Probably the best we’d both ever had.

Eventually we made it back to Fan Expo once again. It was pretty chilly on the way there, and unfortunately Princess Mononoke doesn’t really wear a big sweater or jacket of some sort, so I had to suck it up and play the part. I’m sure she doesn’t fear the cold so why would I?

Saturday was definitely the best day. There were so many more Cosplayers and just so many more people altogether which made it a little claustrophobic, but also all the more exciting. Derek and I both went around again to check up on the merchandise, to see what needed buying, hehe. I actually had several people ask to take pictures with me too, even after being there for just an hour! I’m not gonna lie, I was really hoping at least one person would ask for a picture. After a couple hours of looking around together, we decided we should split up for a bit since he wanted to flip through comic boxes and I was busy trying to pick out earrings for pretty well 20 minutes at that point. Apparently we agreed on meeting up again at the mini donuts, but of course I didn’t get the whole message or something so I ended up waiting upstairs (also, Derek’s signal was crap so that didn’t help) We did find each other eventually though and that’s when we decided we would check out the Sailor Moon Salute panel.

The Sailor Moon panel.
The Sailor Moon panel.

Neither of us were quite sure what it was going to be, but I’ve always liked Sailor Moon and thought it’d be interesting to see and nice to sit down and relax for a while. It ended up being pretty fun and quite touching. This very devoted Sailor Moon cosplaying fan who was hosting the solute gave us a little dance he learned from watching many of the Sailor Moon musicals, which I had no idea existed, and sang along to the Japanese lyrics as well! That was a fun way to start off, but then they had this big burly guy step up onto the platform. He talked about this little 7 year old girl named Dawn who was a huge fan of Sailor Moon. He talked about how she had passed away from stage 3 cancer and her only wish was to see the famous Sailor Moon team, which thankfully she did get to meet. It was tough to hear, but it was a beautiful thing that team did for little Dawn. It’s remarkable to see such devoted fans so invested in what they love. Even if it’s just an anime, a show, a book, it can mean so much to them, they found beauty in the little things, it’s quite inspiring. So that was definitely a great thing to see and was a cool experience.

After the panel, we settled for a little more merchandise/comic book hunting until we both found ourselves famished and ready to chow down. That’s when we headed over to a food court that was conveniently placed just across the road from the Convention Centre. Derek saw Fat Burger right away which reminded him of one of his many food adventures during SDCC. while I was aiming towards something more like some good ol’ barbecue pork and noodles! (I love noodles). The food court was so full of Fan Expo goers though, it took an annoyingly long amount of time for Derek to get his burger, I was pretty well finished with my noodles by the time he found me. Once Derek was finished and we were both stocked up on energy, we set back to examine the paraphernalia and books some more and spent the next few hours doing that!

That evening we planned to see the Masquerade, where the cosplayers (who signed up for it) got to show off their hard work. It was impressive to see what people came up with, even some of the younger ones! I managed to get a few videos but with it pretty much at full zoom the quality wasn’t spectacular. Then, when the masquerade portion was finished with, the judges left to go do their deciding and left us with these kind of horrible “singers” who sang renditions of popular/geeky music. Derek and I sat there for probably at least an hour hoping it would soon come to an end, but I decided I had enough (and also felt like I possibly might hurl suddenly) and could care less about the results at that point, I mean, it doesn’t really matter who wins right? It’s the costumes themselves that are fan-tastic!

By that time, another Fan Expo day had come and gone, Derek and I left in search of some food, ‘cause at that time it had actually been quite a while since we had last eaten. Fresh Slice Pizza is where we ended up having dinner. I was still all dressed up and felt kind of awkward, and I could tell Derek wasn’t really enjoying his “fresh” cold pizza, however, it was still quite a memorable moment. And I myself, didn’t really have a problem with the pizza (mine was delicious).

We climbed up our eleven stories once again to settle down and get some of our things packed. We decided we’d take a sea plane back home (a twenty minute ride rather than an hour and a half ferry ride) on the last day to give us more time at the expo and still make it back in time for Easter dinner. It was kind of a bummer, the weekend felt like it flew by and it sucked because I don’t remember the last time I’ve had that much fun. I also didn’t dress up the last day cause I wanted to be super comfortable (and didn’t necessarily want to wear my costume on the plane) because there were still a few more things I wanted to check out at the booths, and I wanted to explore the artist alley a little more thoroughly before leaving. I’m pretty sure I ended up spending more that day than any of the other two haha. In the beginning I didn’t even think there was much more I needed (wanted), but with me, I guess there always is.

The last few hours flew by and before I knew it we were on our super terrifying, turbulence filled sea plane ride back to our wee island. Though I was upset it was all over, I was happy with how it all worked out and definitely happy with all my purchases! (my horse mask in particular, and the last three Adventure Time Pop! Figures I needed for my collection!)

I had the time of my life at Fan Expo and already miss it so much! I was in awe at just how much stuff was there and the amazing art that a lot of artists had to show. There were so many dedicated fans there, such as the man who was really into his Sailor Moon stuff. I appreciate your commitment! And I’d like to thank those people who took photos with me, I just felt really special.

Also, I want to thank my lovely boyfriend, Derek, for encouraging me to dress up and just for making the whole amazing Fan Expo weekend come together! I want to go to so many more now and build up my costume making skills! I’m undoubtably going to go to a convention in the States! I WILL, ONE DAY!

Briefly: Another day, another clip from this month’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This one’s actually pretty powerful. It features Xavier and Lensherr discussing just who abandoned who, and also explains why we see Xavier walking.

We’re all pretty excited for the film, and if the rest of the feature is anything like this clip, we’ll be in for a treat on May 22nd. Take a look at the clip below, and let us know what you think.

Briefly: Endless Runners are fun, and they’re often very addicting (you don’t want to know how many hours I put into Tiny Wings). The just-revealed Tony Hawk’s Shred Session even looks like a good one, and should add some unique mechanics that the genre hasn’t seen before.

There’s just one problem.

The world has millions of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater fans… and they haven’t had a good THPS experience in over 10 years. Release a fantastic Tony Hawk game on current-gen consoles, and you’ve likely got a system seller right there.

Instead, we have Tony Hawk’s Shred Session. Take a look at the video preview of the game below. Tony Hawk’s Shred Session will launch worldwide this Summer. Again, it looks like fun, but I don’t think that this game is what a single fan would ask for.

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, we’re just a few short months away from the long-awaited Sin City sequel, A Dame to Kill For.

I still remember being a 15 year old kid, absolutely falling in love with the first film, and being so excited when it was announced that a sequel would be put on the fast track. Now, it’s 9 years later, we’re finally close to seeing it.

Two new character posters for the film have just hit the web. One features Mickey Rourke’s Marv, and the other Jessica Alba’s Nancy. Take a look at the images below, and let us know if you’re excited. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theatres on August 22nd.

Nancy

Marv

Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning “Sin City” graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.

Briefly: A slighty different Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer has just hit the web. It still has a severe lack of both pizza and cowabuna’s, but this time around, it shows off all four turtles (and gives us a quick glimpse at William Fichner’s Shredder).

Take a look at the new trailer, and let us know if you’re still severely disappointed in the way that the turtles look. Admit it, when he takes that mast off, he kind of looks like Shrek… a lot.

Also, someone took it upon themselves to improve the look of the turtles. Here’s what could have been:

In any case, here’s that trailer. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hits theatres on August 8th.

Briefly: The first Sharknado sequel won’t premiere for a few more months, but Syfy has already revealed that a third film will follow.

No information about the third film has been revealed, but it will premiere in Summer of 2015.

Sharknado 2: The Second One will premiere on Syfy on July 30th. The first film (and the newly announced sequel) had a huge presence at last year’s San Diego Comic Con, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see what the network has planned for this year’s convention.

In the sequel, “a freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin (Ian Ziering) and April (Tara Reid) can save the Big Apple. Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch and Mark McGrath also star.”

Are you excited for a third film? Are you even looking forward to the first sequel? Sound out below, and if you’re looking for more Sharknado, check out Geekscape #299, featuring Sharknado screenwriter Thunder Levin.

Briefly: Following the film’s first clip from a few weeks back, Fox has debuted the second clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This one features Peter Dinklage’s Bolivar Trask in what looks to be his first run in with Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique. Take a look at the clip below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to the film. X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres on May 23rd!
