Briefly: Is it finally over?

Could Community finally be finished?

I sure hope not. Last year’s Yahoo-driven season six was a comedic tour-de-force, and somehow surpassed many fans high, high expectations.

Once the sixth season concluded earlier this year, things were pretty up in the air as to whether or not we’d see a seventh season, a #sixseasonsandamovie style motion picture, or nothing at all.

Yahoo has expressed interest in somehow continuing the franchise, as has series creator Dan Harmon. Joel McHale, however, doesn’t think it’s going to happen, as stated in an interview with Metro Weekly:

“All of our contracts were up after six years,” McHale told Metro Weekly. “All the actors on the show, almost without exception — their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.”

So there you have it. Contracts are up, and pretty much everyone is a far bigger star than they were when they started the series, meaning another season would be very, very expensive.

Harmon, however, does think we’ll at least see a movie. He told TVLine back at SDCC that “We wait a little bit, let [the cast] explore their awesome careers, and then we get together for an incredible movie.”

It would be a shame to see a series very much in its prime series go the way of the dodo at this point, but after seeing five more seasons than I ever thought I would, I’m really just happy that the show went on as long as it did.

Do you hope that we see more Community? What would you like to see in a movie? Sound out below!

We’ve made it to season six.

Our beloved Community begins its sixth season very soon — on Yahoo! Screen, March 17th — and a full trailer has just went online. I’m embarrassed to say I can’t for the life of me embed Yahoo! video, so you’ll have to click for it here.

Despite losing several of the key cast over the last few years, Community appears to not have missed a beat and remains the same show we know and love (except for whatever the Gas Leak Year was). The spoof of Age of Ultron is just inspired.

Community season six is resembling your favorite buddy from college still be his old funny self. Just with a few wrinkles and a few hard hits from reality.

I’m also not sure what influenced the change in lighting, but the study table looks drastically different. Forget the empty seats, the sun looks like its setting. Symbolic of the show’s imminent end, or just the change in ownership? That’s for you to decide.

New cast members Danny Glover and Paget Brewster are on full display, and it appears Paget is set-up as a rival of sorts for Britta. It might be my eyes but the constant cutting between the two have blurred them for me and they honestly kind of look alike.

Community airs March 17th on …Yahoo! Screen. I need to get used to these Chang-es.

Briefly: Greendale alum have been desperately waiting to hear just when we’ll be able to return to our favourite school, and Yahoo! has finally given us a locked date via this hilarious video:

Yep, that was way better than any ad that NBC ever did for the show. Are you as excited as we are for the series to return? March 17th really can’t come soon enough.

It’s been a crazy few years for the series, from Dan Harmon getting fired which led to the “gas leak year”, to him being hired back for one year before NBC decided to pull the plug, and to Yahoo! saving the show with what Dan Harmon said was “literally hours.” before contracts expired. It’s been an amazing run, and it’s crazy to think that #SixSeasonsAndAMovie could actually, possibly happen.

Briefly: We’re getting a sixth season of Community, which is absolutely incredible in itself, and something that we never thought would happen.

Sadly, Shirley will not be a part of it.

TVGuide broke the news earlier today, and we’ve been hanging our heads in sadness ever since. It was hard to be too upset with the actress however, when she explained why she left:

“My dad needs daily care and he needs me. The idea of being away 16 hours a day for five months, I couldn’t do it. It was a difficult decision for me to make, but I had to choose my dad.”

Family comes first, and rightly so.

How the show will handle her departure will certainly be interesting, but Yvette says that “I am totally open to whatever Dan decides. I’m glad it won’t be hard for them to explain where she is. She has three kids, a degree and a business. There are a lot of ways to explain her [departure].” It was also noted that she may be open to guest appearances.

So, we’ve now lost Shirley, Pierce, and Troy (though there are some rumours that he’ll be making a return). Are you still excited for the sixth season? Or is half the cast disappearing too much for you?

We’ll be sure to share more Community news as soon as we hear it!

Briefly: It’s an amazing time that we live in, isn’t it? Back in my day, when a show was cancelled, it was cancelled. You’d have fond memories of the hours you spent in front of your television, but you would never even hope or dream that there could possibly be more.

Now, it seem like shows come back from the dead fairly regularly (Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, The Killing… twice, just to name a few), and the returning series that I’m most (beyond) excited about is Yahoo!’s Community.

Yep, Yahoo! picked up the series and announced a sixth season on the final day before contracts expired, and the world hasn’t stopped talking about it since. Today, they debuted the first teaser / sizzle reel for the show, stating that Community will be “better than it was before,” and “Better. Faster. Stronger.”

The reel is composed of entirely existing footage, and even includes a nod of the hard-to-remember gas leak year, but it still makes us obnoxiously excited for what’s to come. You can take a look at the reel below, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see next season!

Briefly: This was sure cutting it close. NBC cancelled Community back in May, and its stars contracts would have expired at midnight tonight, but Yahoo! has announced that it’s resurrected Community for a 13 episode sixth season, with every episode releasing at once sometime in 2015  Update: Yahoo’s release has been edited, and now says that the episodes will be ‘released weekly this Fall’.

Maybe it’s not the darkest timeline after all. After talks with Hulu fell through, I thought for sure that the dream of six seasons and a movie would be cut short, but now fans have a glimmer of hope.

Dan Harmon said that “I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo. I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”

Chris McKenna, Russ Krasnoff and Gary Foster also return, and Joel McHale added ‘The reports of our cancelation have been greatly exaggerated.’ —Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). #SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon.  And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now.”

We are so excited. So excited, in fact, that we just changed our default search provider.

What are your thoughts on the renewal? What do you hope to see next season? Sound out below!

Briefly: X-Men: Days of Future Past is just two weeks away from theatres, and Yahoo! has just launched an awesome interview with Hugh Jackman… being interviewed by Hugh Jackman.

Yep, they sent him back to 1999, and the two have a conversation about X-Men, comic book movies, Hugh’s career, which of his films have been the best, and which ones to avoid. It’s pretty hilarious, and definitely worth the watch.

Check out the video below, and let us know what you think! X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres on May 22nd!
