Briefly: All the way back in May of 2014, Guitar Hero creator Harmonix took to Kickstarter in an attempt to reboot their classic, critically acclaimed, and beloved rhythm game Amplitude. The campaign was a huge success (because the game is freaking awesome), raising over $840,000 of its $775,000 goal.

So the game is coming, and is well on its way through development. It just won’t be coming out as soon as we’d hoped. Here’s what Harmonix had to say:

As you all know, 2015 is the year we bring Amplitude back to Sony consoles. While our expected delivery date according to our Kickstarter page is “March,” our release plans have changed. We’re currently targeting a summer release.

WAIT, WHAT? WHY?

This is our first time working on PlayStation 4, and it’s been a big learning experience for the team. We’ve put a lot of work into our proprietary engine to support some of the new, awesome content we’re bringing to the reboot. These factors combined have bumped production out a few additional months.

In a traditional scenario, we’re sometimes tasked with shipping a game to meet publisher demands or in some cases, meet a deadline to make sure the game is available to be purchased during the busy holiday season. In these cases, developers have to re-evalute production needs and make difficult calls to meet deadlines, including removing or shrinking features and – in the worst cases – sacrificing quality in other areas.

With Amplitude and our promise of open development, you’ve given us the opportunity to create the game we want to make and, more importantly, make the game that you want. In order to meet that goal, we don’t want to cut any corners, and we want to stay true to our vision and deliver the best Amplitude experience possible.

We had an amazing showing at PlayStation Experience in December, letting fans play the game for the first time, and we got amazing feedback. We know we have a ways to go, and we’re committed to getting there and making this truly feel like a worthy successor to the game you remember from 2003.

SO WHAT’S NEXT?

We’re still making solid progress and look forward to sharing what we’re working on during production, as promised over the coming months. We also have some exciting plans for PAX East in March; backers who backed at the VIP party level – that is totally still on so please check your inboxes.

You can also expect a far more polished multiplayer mode that will be available for hands-on at PAX (those of you who joined us at PlayStation Experience know that even though multiplayer was playable, it needed some serious work). We hope you can join us in March and challenge us to a multiplayer match!

Thanks so much for your continued love and support. We’ve hit the ground running upon returning to the studio after the holiday and look forward to getting Amplitude in your hands as soon as we can.

-Team Amplitude

So, not a huge delay seeing as the game was originally slated for March, but in any case we’ll be waiting a few more months to play the reboot of what’s possibly the most fun music game, ever.

Are you looking forward to Amplitude? Sound out below!

Briefly: We finally got a release date for the 3DS version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask during today’s Nintendo Direct (here’s our recap, and look for a lot more talk in this week’s episode of Geekscape Games), and it’s coming a lot sooner than we originally thought.

Yesterday’s rumours turned out to be true, and Majora’s Mask will launch alongside the new 3DS XL on February 13th. Nintendo today debuted a new trailer for the game, and as someone who hasn’t experienced Majora’s Mask before, I really can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be picking this one up! Were you lucky enough to pick up the limited edition?

http://youtu.be/dlm0mkyTBIw

Briefly: Nintendo fans have been waiting patiently to find out just when the newer, faster 3DS models would be coming to North America, and an apparent leaked Gamestop ad has revealed that the new iteration may be coming sooner than we thought:

Gamestop

If the ad (via NeoGAF) is real, it states that the new 3DS (or at least the XL model) will be available on February 13th (just in time for my birthday). What’s really interesting here is that the left side of the ad also shows the 3DS version of Majora’s Mask, which I really didn’t think we’d be seeing that early.

Only time will tell if the ad was real, and by time, I mean the Nintendo Direct presentation that Nintendo has scheduled for tomorrow. Keep your eyes on Geekscape for the confirmation (and keep your ears on the next episode of Geekscape Games, as I’m sure we’ll have a lot to talk about).

Will you be picking up the new version? Sound out below!

Briefly: While console players (especially those pesky PS3 and Xbox 360 owners) have been playing Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V for some time now, PC players have been waiting for, first an announcement, and then a release, for well over a year at this point.

Sadly, it looks like the master race will be waiting a little longer to experience this one. The game was finally slated to hit the platform on January 27th, but this release has now been pushed to March 24th. Here’s what Rockstar had to say about the delay (via their official blog):

As we head into 2015, we would like to share the first screens and system specs of Grand Theft Auto V for PC as well as a new release date of March 24, 2015.

Our apologies for the slight shift in the date but the game requires a few extra weeks of testing and polish to make it as good as can be. Moving a release date is never a decision we take lightly and is a choice we make only when we know it is in the best interests of the game and our fans. Thanks everyone for your understanding and we assure you these few extra weeks will be worth it when the game does arrive in March.

GTA Online for PC, which will support up to 30 players, will launch alongside GTAV for PC and will include GTA Online Heists. Online Heists for consoles will be launching in the coming weeks ahead of the PC launch.

The first screenshots for the PC version debuted alongside the delay announcement, and boy do they look gorgeous. Take a look below (head back to the blog for full 4K resolution… wow), and let us know if you’ll be picking up Grand Theft Auto V for PC when it finally launches!

Briefly: Greendale alum have been desperately waiting to hear just when we’ll be able to return to our favourite school, and Yahoo! has finally given us a locked date via this hilarious video:

Yep, that was way better than any ad that NBC ever did for the show. Are you as excited as we are for the series to return? March 17th really can’t come soon enough.

It’s been a crazy few years for the series, from Dan Harmon getting fired which led to the “gas leak year”, to him being hired back for one year before NBC decided to pull the plug, and to Yahoo! saving the show with what Dan Harmon said was “literally hours.” before contracts expired. It’s been an amazing run, and it’s crazy to think that #SixSeasonsAndAMovie could actually, possibly happen.

Briefly: Now I haven’t exactly watched this trailer as I’m way behind on The Walking Dead (hard to believe, I know), but it’s probably something that I should get on seeing as the series returns for the remainder of its fifth season in just under a month.

The trailer clocks in at just over a minute long. Check it out below, and be sure to let us know what you think! The Walking Dead returns on February 8th.

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, AMC has treated us to an extended trailer of next month’s Better Call Saul.

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman (Odenkirk) meets Walter White.  When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet.  Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Erhmantraut (Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad.  The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “criminal lawyer.”  The series’ tone is dramatic, woven through with dark humor.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to the series! Better Call Saul premieres on February 8th!

“I’m gonna tear you apart… from the inside.”

Yep, Ultron’s still creepy. The latest trailer for May 1st’s Avengers: Age of Ultron has just hit the web, and while it doesn’t show us too much that we haven’t already seen… it does feature some badass new action and a lot of Ultron being disturbing as hell.

Is it just me though, or is anyone else already getting sick of that music? Also, where is Paul Bettany’s The Vision? And did Hulk’s eyes look red at the end to anyone else?

In any case, it’s a pretty cool trailer. Take a look below, and get speculating!

Briefly: The second trailer for District 9 and Elysium director Neil Blomkamp’s next film, Chappie, hit the web today, and it’s definitely a great follow up to the affective teaser from a few months back.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

You definitely see themes and elements in the trailer that we’ve seen many times before, but this time around, it feels different. Humans, of course, made Chappie, and as humans do (and as the trailer notes) for some reason we must fear and destroy anything that we don’t understand. I sure hope that Chappie makes it out of this one, though I know it won’t be unscathed.

Also, one of Jon’s dogs is named Chappy, so it gets extra points for that one. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. Chappie hits theatres on March 6th, 2015.

Briefly: HBO has finally let us know exactly when we’ll be able to return to Westerns.

The network today revealed that Game of Thrones anticipated fifth season will premiere on April 12th.

Late last year HBO announced that a standalone streaming service would debut alongside the show’s fifth season, though there was no mention of the service in today’s announcement.

Are you ready for the long break to end? What have you been occupying your time with since Game of Thrones left us last? Maybe playing that awesome Telltale game?

Tyrion

Following the clever ant-sized teaser and poster, the first full teaser trailer for Ant-Man is finally, finally, finally here!

The teaser shows off the first footage of Paul Rudd in the sweet-looking suit, and while it doesn’t reveal a ton of plot, we get a good idea of Lang’s intentions, and also get to see just how good of a salesman Michael Douglas’s Hank Pym can be. Serious, that monologue though.

The teaser features a far more serious tone than I’d expected, especially with Step Brothers director Adam McKay at the helm (and not to mention the fact that it stars Paul Rudd), but after the hilarious, heartbreaking blast that was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, I’m ready for something a little more serious (though hopefully just as different). After all of the controversy surrounding the film over the last year, it’s great to finally see some footage, and it’s even better that the footage is freakin’ rad.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know what you think! Ant-Man hits theatres on July 17th, 2015!

“Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world”

Briefly: Well, I can’t exactly watch it, but it doesn’t mean that I’m not excited about it.

Syfy has just debuted the first 9 minutes of its anticipated 12 Monkeys adaptation. The series’ follows the journey of a time traveler, Cole, from the post-apocalyptic future.  Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, Cole arrives in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate 93.6% of the human race. Will Cole be able to save the fate of mankind or is mankind bound by fate? Taking place in the ravaged future of 2043 and the present day (2015), 12 Monkeys explores themes of destiny, fate, love and the possibility of second chances.”

I loved the film, and I’m definitely down for this adaptation (let’s just hope it doesn’t stink).

You can take a look at the preview below (bearing that you’re in the USA), and be sure to let me know how it is! 12 Monkeys premieres on January 16th!

Briefly: So we still don’t know anything about Matt Reeves’ follow-up to last year’s fantastic Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (including its title), but we now know that we really won’t be seeing it any time soon.

The sequel was original slated for Summer of 2016, but FOX today pushed the title an entire year, to July 17th, 2014.

Dang.

Are you looking forward to the sequel? What did you think of Dawn? Sound out below!

Briefly: Playstation Now has received a lot of scrutiny since its open beta began a few months back. Admittedly, I’m yet to use the service, and it’s mostly because of its sometimes absolutely absurd pricing (which could often be more expensive than just buying a copy of the title)

PSNow

It seems as though Sony has heard its customers, and has just announced a beyond-fair subscription price that will be available beginning January 13th. The subscription gives you unlimited access to the complete PS Now library, which Sony notes currently contains over 100 PS3 titles, and will run you $19.99 per month, or $44.99 for three months.

Not bad at all. The company has also debuted a neat trailer for the service which shows you just a few of the stellar titles you’ll be able to play:

http://youtu.be/QmXfKa22PZg

Sony has also debuted a free Playstation Now themed PS4 theme, and those who download the theme before the end of the month will be entered to win a one-year subscription to the service.

Are you down with the new prices? Are you thinking about signing up? Sound out below!

Briefly: It’s still nearly a year away from release, and this new teaser features about as much plot as the last one did, but the theatrical trailer for November’s Peanuts has just hit the web, and it’s freaking glorious.

Now, somehow I grew up (like went all the way through childhood) without really being introduced to the franchise. That being said, this looks so hype (that’s for you, Shane) that I’m really interested in going back to see what I’ve missed.

Here’s the synopsis:

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace – embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest. From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day.

I’m really, really, enjoying the art style seen in this trailer, and I can’t wait to feast my eyes on more. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

http://youtu.be/tsSjtzBhnIU

Briefly: A few days back Marvel debuted the first teaser teaser (yep, teaser for a teaser trailer) for this year’s Ant-Man… except that teaser was pretty unique in that you couldn’t really watch it because the damned thing was “ant-sized”.

Marvel has finally debuted a “human-sized” version of the same teaser, so our eyes can now witness the bad-ass first footage from the film. It’s a pretty quick look, but it makes me very excited to see what Marvel shows us tomorrow during Agent Carter.

Take a look at the footage below, and let us know what you think! Ant-Man hits theatres on July 17th!

Briefly: We’ll be able to see the actual first look at Ant-Man during Tuesday’s premiere episode of Agent Carter (can you believe that it’s already here?), but Marvel’s just taken the overused and uninspired ‘teaser for a teaser’ formula… and made it even more frustrating.

Yep, it’s a teaser for next week’s Ant-Man teaser, but ant-sized.

Have fun (not).

Again, catch the full teaser on the January 6th episode of Agent Carter!

Briefly: Josh went hands on with the gorgeous-looking Kirby and the Rainbow Curse back at E3 in June. The game acts as a successor to early DS title Kirby’s Canvas Curse, but with a new (and charming) art style, a ton of new gameplay elements, and its all coming to us on a home console instead of a handheld.

A new Japanese overview trailer has just been released for the title, and while I obviously don’t understand a word of it, it does show off which Amiibo will be compatible with the anticipated sequel. You won’t have a huge number of figures to utilize here, but the game is compatible with Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede. Each figure unlocks a special power-up that can be used once per day.

You can take a look at the overview trailer, which shows off some new new gameplay features, below, and be sure to let us know what you think! As for Amiibo, are you still hunting? Will you be picking up Meta Knight and Dedede? Sound out below!

Briefly: We’re now just seven months away from Marvel’s beyond-anticipated Ant-Man, and a just released promotional banner has just given us our first look at the villainous Yellowjacket.

It’s been some time since we’ve seen any news come from the film, but seeing as a 1:48 long teaser trailer has recently been classified, I’d imagine that this dry spell will end soon, and colour us excited.

Take a look at the promotional banner below (and click for larger), and be sure to let us know what you think! Ant-Man hits theatres on July 17th!

Banner

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Briefly: We got our first look at Charlie Cox as Marvel/Netflix’s Daredevil all the way back at NYCC, and this week EW gave us a new look at Matt Murdock in both lawyer and superhero forms.

EW also notes that Cox will don the classic red suit at some point during the series (now shut up, haters), but as we know, he’ll begin the story in the Frank Miller inspired duds.

Marvel’s TV Chief Jeph Loeb notes that “There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky; there are no magic hammers. We’ve always approached this as a crime drama first, superhero show second,” While showrunner Steven S. DeKnight adds “It’s a little grittier and edgier than Marvel has gone before, but we’re not looking to push it to extreme violence or gratuitous nudity.”

However things turn out, at this point we could not be more excited. Take a look at the two new images below, and let us know what you think. Daredevil will hit Netflix in 2015.

Daredevil

Daredevil2

Briefly: Following the bad-ass red-band trailer from last week, Fox has just debuted a new featurette for next year’s Kingsman: The Secret Service.

The video features plenty of insight from Kingsman (and Kick-Ass) director Matthew Vaughan, as well as interviews with Taron Egerton’s ‘Eggsy’ and a few others. The featurette also features some new clips, and is more than worth the watch for those looking forward to the film!

The performances look fantastic, the action is insane, and February totally can’t come soon enough. Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Kingman: The Secret Service stars Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton and Samuel L. Jackson, and hits theatres on February 13th, 2015.

Briefly: We still don’t know much about the anticipated The Walking Dead spinoff in the works over at AMC, but Now that the series has cast a few pivotal roles, I guess it’s time we learn its setting.

According to TV Line, the walkers are headed to Los Angeles.

As previously rumoured, it’s still thought that the series will tell of the early days of the infection and zombie apocalypse, which is definitely something I’m into seeing.

When the pilot was announced, Kirkman stated that “There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I’m happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them.”

Are you looking forward to the proposed spinoff? Or is one The Walking Dead series enough? Sound out below!

Briefly: I’ve been dabbling in Blizzard’s Hearthstone for nearly a year now, and while my addiction to the game seems to come in waves (unlike my addiction for Nintendo’s damn Amiibo figures), my love for the game never wavers.

The game is insanely well designed and balanced, and definitely at home on a tablet’s screen (in fact, probably better than on a PC). It even features cross-platform multiplayer, so you’re really not missing anything by playing it on a tablet. The game is totally free to play (and not pay to win), but it can be really, really hard not to hasten your progress by paying for some new packs (which can be as addicting as hell to open).

The game is now available for Android tablets, so you non-computering, non-Apple folk can finally wet your whistles. All you need is an Android tablet with a 6 inch screen or larger, 1Gb of RAM, and Android 4.0 or later.

Already playing? Let us know what you think of the game below, and if not, you can grab it from the Amazon Appstore for Android and Google Play.

We’re all big fans of The Strain here over at Geekscape, some of us since the first novel released back in 2009, and some of us last Summer when the FX series first premiered (dat premiere, right?)

The fantastic vampire drama was renewed for a second season back in August, and we were pretty damned excited to learn that this universe would be continuing for at least another year. We even had series star Sean Astin on the show back in September!

Not familiar with the series? Well, When a freak virus kills all but four passengers on an airplane at JFK, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), head of the Center for Disease Control’s “Canary Team,” is immediately called to the scene. With help from a mysterious Holocaust survivor (David Bradley), “Eph” and his colleague (Mía Maestro) uncover the outbreak’s ties to vampirism. Now, the only way to stop the terrifying disease from wiping out mankind is to face its source – a sinister supernatural creature known as “The Master” – whose evil intent seems more powerful than any other force on Earth!

Briefly: Ready At Dawn’s Until Dawn was originally slated to hit the PS3 (with some good ol’ Playstation Move support), but was re-announced as a PS4 exclusive this past Summer.

The game totally plays like a B-grade horror film, and I’m so excited for it. I’m a big fan of survival horror games (which you’d know if you listened to the Geekscape Games podcast), and I’m so happy to see the resurgence of horror titles that’s happening now.

In case you missed last week’s teaser trailer, take a look below, and click the video below that to see what the gameplay is all about. Until Dawn is set to hit the PS4 next Summer!

Briefly: Following the new teaser and clip from just a couple of weeks back, AMC today debuted a new poster for February’s Better Call Saul.

Take a look at the poster below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to the series! Better Call Saul premieres on February 8th!

Saul

Following the official (and officially awesome) teaser trailer from a few weeks back, Disney has just revealed the names of some of the characters we’ll be seeing in next years Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

And they did it in the style of the classic Star Wars Topps trading cards. This is so freaking cool.

Here we go:

Finn

Kylo-Ren

Millennium-Falcon

Poe-Dameron

Rey

Stormtroopers

X-Wings

BB-8

Pretty damn cool, huh? Abrams revealed the images to EW earlier today, and also noted that the numbering on the cards is important. Get speculating!

Briefly: I was really, really excited to check out Kingsman: The Secret Service this past October… but then the damned thing was delayed.

In any case, everything that we’ve seen from the film so far has been nothing but bad-ass, and all of us here at Geekscape cannot wait to see more of this Dave Gibbons/Mark Millar adaptation.

The performances look fantastic, the action is insane, and February totally can’t come soon enough. Take a look at the new red-band trailer below, and let us know what you think! Kingman: The Secret Service stars Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton and Samuel L. Jackson, and hits theatres on February 13th, 2015.

Briefly: I’m still not overly familiar with the Mad Max series, but this insanely cool trailer for the upcoming Fury Road is making me rethink my entire life.

The film features an entirely new cast, and though the last Mad Max film came five years before I was born in 1985, Fury Road will not act as a complete reboot, and will instead be set following the events of 1981’s Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

In the film, “Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.”

This trailer is gorgeous, action packed, and it instantly excited even a Mad Max virgin like myself. Take a look at the video below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for this one. Mad Max: Fury Road hits theatres on May 15th!

Briefly: While we still don’t really know anything about Warner Bros. Minecraft movie (like how on Earth there could be a Minecraft movie), we do know that the film has just lost it’s director, Real Steel helmer Shawn Levy.

THR first learned the of the news of Levy’s departure, and states that Warner Bros. is still very actively developing the project. Probably because Minecraft is currently the hottest thing on planet and that’s something that simply can’t last forever.

Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney are attached to write the script, and for now that’s all that we know (except for the fact that Steve Carell would totally star in it)! We’ll be sure to fill you in as soon as we learn more about this perplexing film.
