Surprisingly enough, right now is a great time to be a Star Wars fan. Sure, people were (unreasonably, in my opinion) uncomfortable when the Disney Lucasfilm acquisition was announced, but now just look at what’s coming down the pipeline! J.J. Abrams is directing Episode VII, which is fantastic news on its own, but another rumour that we’ve been hearing for some time has been the possibility of spinoff titles; movies set in the Star Wars universe, but not directly related to the new trilogy.

The first set photo from Episode VII... I kid, I kid.
The first set photo from Episode VII… I kid, I kid.

Today, those rumours were put to rest. In an interview on CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the development of several spinoff titles. Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are working on the films (as well as consulting Abrams on the production of Episode VII).

Iger later refined his statement, adding that while the spinoff titles are coming, they are still very early in development. It appears as though only time will tell, but Iger did confirm that at least two spinoffs are in the works (Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are working on separate films).

Watch the reveal below, and let us know you think! Plot-wise, what are you hoping for from these?

This is certainly an interesting and unexpected piece of news.

Fox today announced their intent to reboot the Hitman franchise. The first Hitman film (fittingly called Hitman) was released in 2007. The film was universally panned by critics and fans alike, but nevertheless went on to gross over 100 million dollars.

The new film, titled Agent 47, will be the feature debut of commercial director Aleksander Bach. Skip Woods and Michael Finch (A Good Day to Die Hard) will write the script, while (in an interesting piece of casting news) Paul Walker (Fast and Furious 6) has signed on to play Agent 47 (yes, you read that right… we’re all for it).

A good friend of Geekscape’s, Adrian Askarieh, is one of the producers on the film. He’s also producing the upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution movie! Both of those are near and dear to my heart, Adrian, so make us proud!

Since discovering the trailer for Zero Charisma just a few days ago, I honestly couldn’t tell you how many people I’ve shown it to (I may be slightly hyperbolizing here, so let’s just say at least a dozen).

The movie looks like absolute gold, and as wonderful as the final product is sure to be, Zero Charisma also has quite the story behind it. Directors Katie Graham (Cinematographer of Best Worst Movie and The American Scream) and Andrew Matthews (Editor on Best Worst Movie and The American Scream) raised over $25,000 in preproduction over the course of their successful IndieGogo campaign in Spring 2011.

As I mentioned above, the first trailer for the film has just been released. Trust me, you’re going to want to keep your eye out for this one.

Metal-loving gamer geek Scott Weidemeyer lives with his ornery grandmother and works a lousy job at a donut shop. But every Tuesday night, he is the omnipotent Game Master, guiding his role-players through a tabletop journey of fantasy and adventure. However, when neo-nerd hipster Miles joins his game, Scott begins to resent the admiration Miles receives from the other players. To make matters worse, the health of his grandmother begins to falter, and his estranged mother visits town, reminding Scott of a childhood he’d just as soon forget. Caught in a spiral of rage and delusion, Scott is forced to take drastic steps to reclaim his honor, and his identity as the Game Master.

Of course, independent films are costly to make. Zero Charisma is currently in post-production, and Katie, Andrew, and everyone else involved need your help so the finished product can see the light of day. Another IndieGogo campaign is currently underway, with a goal of $30,000 (currently sitting just under $10,000). This campaign will take the film from post production through to distribution, and you can score lots of cool goodies by backing it (including of course, a copy of the finished feature).

You watched (and very likely loved) the trailer above, so why not throw them a few bucks and score yourself a copy! I’m sure they’d be forever grateful (as would I, as I really, really want to see this)!

Zero Charisma is set to premiere at this years SXSW, where Jonathan will be watching, and I’ll be stuck in Canada.

This sounds like a very cool marketing campaign. Anyone in the US looking forward to Injustice: Gods Among Us also has a chance to win some cool prizes!

With just a couple more months to go until the game releases, it’s about time that marketing started to ramp up. Warner Bros. Interactive and DC today introduced a new campaign for the game titled Injustice Battle Arena.

Here’s the description:

For the next 10 weeks, the roster of legendary DC Comics characters will enter the Injustice Battle Arena. Each week, a new pair of challengers will enter the arena, as fans are given the opportunity to vote on who they believe would come out as champion.

Every Monday, combatants will be revealed in weekly match-up videos. Detailing the skills, attributes and technology of the week’s competing DC Comics warriors, the videos also include man-on-the-street and celebrity experts explaining which character in the battle has earned their vote.

All votes and submissions must be submitted by Thursday night, and the results will be announced in a final fight video, showing the all-out battles and ultimate victor of that week’s match-up.

Today also marked the release of the first match-ups, featuring Batman vs. Bane, and Harley Quinn vs. Wonder Woman! Check it out below, and head here to vote (and get entered to win those sweet, sweet prizes).

Of course, if you’d like to know more, check out the snazzy announcement video, explaining just what’s about to go down! Watch it below, and let us know what you think! Injustice: Gods Among Us releases on April 16th, 2013.

Are you planning to pick the game up? Which characters are you most looking forward to playing? Are you reading the tie-in comic?

Rocker/Writer/Director/Zombie Rob Zombies latest film, The Lords of Salem is due in just two months, and today marked the release of both a new trailer and the official poster!

Check them out below, and let us know what you think! Horror fans, what have you thought of Zombie’s previous works?

LoS Poster

From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords.” Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of the town’s violent past. Is Heidi going mad, or are the “Lords of Salem” returning for revenge on modern-day Salem?

It’s a good time to be a Ghibli fan.

Late last month, the studio’s collaboration with Level-5 finally made it to North America. The game is called Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and the sheer quality of the title has cause it to quickly climb to the top of my favourite games list.

Now, in just over a month, us North Americans will be getting another dose of Studio Ghibli. Goro Miyazaki’s From Up On Poppy Hill is set to hit theatres on March 15th; the film released back in 2011 in Japan, but it’ll be hitting our shores with a fresh new vocal track featuring Jamie Lee Curtis, Christina Hendricks, Ron Howard, Aubrey Plaza, and more.

Watch the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

From Academy Award(R) winner Hayao Miyazaki and director Goro Miyazaki comes this uniquely inspired coming-of-age story. Set in Yokohama in 1963, as Japan is picking itself up from the devastation of World War II and preparing to host the 1964 Olympics, the story centers on Umi and Shun, two high school kids caught up in the changing times. But a buried secret from their past emerges to cast a shadow on the future and pull them apart. With its rich color palette, stunning exteriors, sun-drenched gardens, bustling cityscapes and painterly detail, From Up on Poppy Hill provides a pure, sincere, and nuanced evocation of the past, and marks yet another creative triumph for Studio Ghibli.

Community is coming. Finally. With just a few more days until the show is slated to return, it’s (hopefully) too late for NBC to push it again.

The anticipated fourth season of the sitcom will premiere this Thursday, February 7th. The season opener looks to be a parody of The Hunger Games, and it actually looks pretty wonderful.

Community-Hunger-Games-Parody

Of course, just about every Greendale fan is wary about this year’s offering. After a long year of the show being delayed, its creator and showrunner Dan Harmon being fired (with many of the writer’s quitting afterwards in protest), and star Chevy Chase quitting midway through production, it could be a dark, dark year at Greendale Community College.

In any case, I love the cast and I love the characters, so I’m hoping for the best. Watch a new trailer for the season below, and let us know what you think!

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch may just be one of my favourite games ever. It’s been years (and years!) since I’ve been so addicted to a title; since I’ve been so engrossed in a world that wasn’t my own. It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful games of all time; Level-5 and Studio Ghibli have crafted an absolute masterpiece, and if you’ve EVER enjoyed an RPG before, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Catching and training creatures (called familiars) is a huge part of the game. It’s a little bit like Pokémon, and acts as a clever party system in the game. Europe has had a neat little dragon familiar (called Draggle) available for download since Ni No Kuni‘s launch last month.

Draggle... the dragon.
Draggle… the dragon.

Just when I started to wonder if we’d ever see the cute little guy on our side of the pond, BOOM. Draggle’s coming, for free, on February 12th. That’s right, FREE! Now go have a babana in celebration.

How are you liking the game so far? Were you one of the lucky folks who got their hands on the Wizard’s Edition?

It’s too bad that Gerry Anderson won’t get to see this come to fruition.

ITV Studios, Pukeko Pictures, and Weta Workshop are teaming up for Thunderbirds Are Go!, a reimagining of the series that began in 1965 (which actually ran for just two seasons). 26 episodes have been ordered already, and the series is set to premiere (in the UK at least) sometime in 2015.

Thunderbirds Are Go! will use a mix of CG and live action models to create its iconic look. Little else is known about the series at this time, but it has been confirmed that we’ll see the return of all five Tracy brothers.

Excited?

A batch of new photos from Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim have made their way online (via USA Today). As expected, the stills look stylish and exciting, and I can’t wait to see the feature film.

Check out the new stills below, and let us know what you think! Pacific Rim hits theatres on July 12th.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Late last night, Sony released an intriguing teaser to their YouTube channel, inviting all of us to see the future of Playstation in just a few weeks.

The internet (being the internet) immediately went wild with speculation that in just 20 days, the next iteration of the Playstation will be revealed. Rumours of the impeding launch however, have been running rampant for the better part of a year.

The Wall Street Journal has apparently confirmed with a reliable source that February 20th will indeed see the anticipated console’s revelation, and that the newest Playstation will be available for purchase before the year’s end.

Are you ready for a new Playstation? Do you believe that the Playstation 4 will be revealed in just a few weeks, or will Sony simply be showing this year’s lineup of AAA PS3 titles? What kind of features would you like to see available if a new console was announced?

Maybe we’ll get really lucky, and Sony will release a new version of Home.

SDCC 2013 is just 5 months away, and today it was revealed that badges are set to go on sale Saturday, February 16! You’ll want to mark your calendars and book the day off work: chances are if you’re not ready to buy the moment they go on sale… well, you’re not getting in!

All the info you’ll need is available (unsurprisingly) at comic-con.org.  Adults will be looking at $175 for a 4-day pass (including preview night), and prices of course drop from there!

Will you be going? Sound out! As always, Geekscape will have a booth, and I’ll be there attending my very first SDCC!

The last time Derek Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling got together, the end result was an absolutely heartbreaking drama about falling in love, and then falling apart. Blue Valentine (trailer here) was impressive as hell, but I can’t stress enough just how depressing it is: after initial viewing it stayed in my head for days, and I still think of it from time to time. It will break your freaking heart.

Cianfrance has a new film releasing next month (March 29th to be exact). Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper play characters who both seem to be good men, with one (of course) being on the wrong side of the law.

Focus Features today released 10 new images from the upcoming drama. The movie looks great, but seeing as my heart is still in need of mending after Blue Valentine, I’m not sure if I’m ready for another Cianfrance experience…

Who am I kidding, I’ll be seeing it as soon as I possible can. Check out the images (and trailer) below, and let us know what you think!

Luke (Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling) is a high-wire motorcycle stunt performer who travels with the carnival from town to town. While passing through Schenectady in upstate New York, he tries to reconnect with a former lover, Romina (Eva Mendes), only to learn that she has given birth to their son Jason in his absence. Luke decides to give up life on the road to try and provide for his newfound family by taking a job as a car mechanic. Noticing Luke’s ambition and talents, his employer Robin (Ben Mendelsohn) proposes to partner with Luke in a string of spectacular bank robberies – which will place Luke on the radar of ambitious rookie cop Avery Cross (Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper).

Avery, who has to navigate a local police department ruled by the menacing and corrupt detective Deluca (Ray Liotta), is also struggling to balance his professional life with his family life, which includes his wife Jennifer (Rose Byrne) and their infant son AJ. The consequences of Avery’s confrontation with Luke will reverberate into the next generation. It is then that the two sons, Jason (Dane DeHaan) and AJ (Emory Cohen), must face their fateful, shared legacy.

Yes, you read that right. Ted, the loveable, vulgar teddy bear from one of last year’s most surprising comedies (which went on to become the highest R-rated comedy of all time) will be presenting at next month’s Academy Awards!

This should be pretty interesting to watch. Was Ted not CG for most of the movie? How will he be animated on stage!?

The Academy also stated “we won’t deny that Ted used his pull with our host to get himself the booking.” This year’s host, of course, being Seth Macfarlane, creator of Family Guy, and writer/director on Ted.

Will you be tuning in to the ceremony? The 85th Annual Academy Awards will broadcast live on February 24th.

Do you remember how awesome The Raid was? We sure hope you’ve seen it, as it was one of the best action films of 2012 (and even made it onto Jonathan’s 10 Most Enjoyable Movies Of The Year list).

Did you know that a sequel was in the works? If not, you do now! The Raid 2 started production today in Indonesia, where principal photography will last a whopping 100 days!

A lengthy press release accompanied the announcement. Included was a short plot synopsis and an intriguing batch of photos from the first day of shooting. The Raid 2 won’t hit theatres until sometime next year, but I’m already excited!

Picking up right where the first film ends, The Raid 2 follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

Irrational Games today released a new trailer for their upcoming first-person shooter, Bioshock Infinite. This trailer is especially effective (for me anyways), as it shows us a lot of what the Bioshock team does best, atmosphere.

The game is just two months away now, releasing on March 26th, and it looks absolutely wonderful. Check out the new trailer below, which takes you back to 1912, and way, way up to Columbia.

Arg… it’s going to be a long two months.

Rockstar today (finally) announced the official release date for the highly anticipated next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Sadly, it isn’t the Spring release we were all hoping for, so you’re going to be waiting more than a few months to get your hands on this one. Grand Theft Auto V will hit Ps3 and Xbox 360 (still crossing my fingers for a Wii U announcement) on September 17th. That’s about seven months from now if you don’t feel like counting.

Check out the press release below for more information. Sorry gamers, I know you were eagerly looking forward to April (rumoured) so you could pick this up. Why not grab Ni No Kuni while you wait?

Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto V is expected to launch worldwide for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system on September 17, 2013.

Los Santos: a sprawling sun-soaked metropolis full of self-help gurus, starlets and fading celebrities, once the envy of the Western world, now struggling to stay afloat in an era of economic uncertainty and cheap reality TV. Amidst the turmoil, three very different criminals plot their own chances of survival and success: Franklin, a former street gangster, now looking for real opportunities and serious money; Michael, a professional ex-con whose retirement is a lot less rosy than he hoped it would be; and Trevor, a violent maniac driven by the chance of a cheap high and the next big score. Running out of options, the crew risks everything in a series of daring and dangerous heists that could set them up for life.

“Grand Theft Auto V continues to push the series forward in new ways; Rockstar North are creating our deepest, most beautiful and most immersive world yet,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We are very excited for people to learn more about the game in the coming months.”

The September release date moves the launch back from its original projected release window of spring 2013 in order to allow additional development time. The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world Rockstar Games has yet created, Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game’s three lead characters, playing all sides of the game’s interwoven story.

All the classic hallmarks of the groundbreaking series return, including incredible attention to detail and Grand Theft Auto’s darkly humorous take on modern culture, alongside a brand new and ambitious approach to open world multiplayer.

Everyone around these parts seems to be quite looking forward to Injustice: Gods Among Us. It’s a new brawler from the creators of Mortal Kombat, one of the available editions comes with an awesome looking fight stick, and of course we’ve got all of our favourite characters from the DC universe.

Up until now however, we had no idea what the game was about. Sure, everyone’s fighting, but just what is all the fuss about? Today, just over two months before the game releases, Warner Bros. Interactive has filled us in. A new trailer has been released for the game, featuring pretty much all the plot they could squeeze into two minutes.

Check out the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! Injustice: Gods Among Us hits PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 16th!

When I first saw the trailer for Tomorrow Corporation’s (World of Goo) Little Inferno, I thought it looked absolutely wonderful. I also thought that it looked like a perfect fit for the iPad. The game looks like it was built with a touchscreen in mind.

Then Little Inferno released, and I immediately picked it up (digitally of course) for my Wii U. The experience was incredible, but as far as I know I didn’t glance at the television even once through the entirety of my playthrough. Again, this is a game meant for touchscreens, so I played it on one (the Wii U Gamepad). I do distinctly remember wishing I could play it on the go however, which was never a possibility… UNTIL NOW!

Tomorrow Corporation has announced that Little Inferno will be releasing on the iPad on January 31st (tomorrow). The company states that “Just like the other versions of the game, Little Inferno on iPad is still 100% free of in app purchases, ads, spam, etc. You’ll get Just The Game and nothing else!” It’s also been revealed that the title will come chock full of GameCenter achievements, so those of you that like to be rewarded for you gaming prowess with numerical points that have no merit… well, can concentrate on that instead of the distinctly original experience.

The price of the title has not been revealed, but I can imagine it releasing for a cool $9.99 (of which it’s worth every penny).

The game is amazing. If you haven’t checked it out yet, and you’re an iPad owner, this is definitely the version I’d go for.

Some exciting news for Muppets fans today. Sure, the next film is still over a year away, but you can’t get much better than an official title, synopsis, and image this early in development.

The title is very straightforward; you won’t find any silly subtitles or an exorbitant amount of numbers on the end of this one. The next Muppets film is simply called The Muppets… Again.

Of course, a lot is changing for this new film. Thankfully, director James Bobbin and songwriter Brett McKenzie return, but The Muppets human stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams are nowhere to be found. This time you’ll get major characters portrayed by Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, and Ty Burrell.

It sounds like this sequel will be on a much larger scale than the last film too; while The Muppets had the gang trying to save their own beloved theatre, according to the synopsis, this time they’re going worldwide!

Disney’s The Muppets… Again! takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais, creator of “Derek” and the Golden Globe®- and Emmy®-winning series “The Office” and “Extras.” The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” Mean Girls, Date Night) as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (TV’s “Modern Family”) as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.

The Muppets… Again is set to hit theatres on March 21st, 2014. Take a look at the first official stills below, and let us know just how excited you are for this one!

A few weeks ago we showed you the intriguing first trailer for Danny Boyle’s Trance. UK audiences knew when they’d be able to see the film, but things were still up in the air on our North American shores.

Fox Searchlight revealed today when we’ll be able to check this one out, and luckily, it isn’t too far off! Trance will begin its limited theatrical run on April 5th, which is of course just a few months away.

Haven’t seen the trailer? Watch it below, and mark your calendars; Trance looks like it could be something special.

TRANCE, directed by Oscar®-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) and co-written by Oscar®-nominated long term collaborator John Hodge (Shallow Grave, Trainspotting) is a seductive and enigmatic thriller starring James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson.

Fine art auctioneer Simon (McAvoy), in league with a gang led by underworld boss Franck (Cassel), plots the audacious theft of a masterpiece by Goya from a major public auction. When Simon double-crosses the gang during the robbery, Franck retaliates violently and knocks him unconscious.

In the aftermath of the heist, Simon sticks stubbornly – and perhaps shrewdly – to his claim that the violent trauma has left him with no memory of where he stashed the artwork.

Unable to coerce the painting’s location from Simon, Franck and his associates reluctantly join forces with a charismatic hypnotherapist (Dawson) in a bid to get him to talk. But as they journey deeper into Simon’s jumbled psyche the boundaries between reality and hypnotic suggestion begin to blur and the stakes rise faster and far more dangerously than any of the players could have anticipated.

The cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has grown yet again. Deadline has revealed that Julia Gardner (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Martha Marcy May Marlene) has been added to the star-studded group of actors that will appear in the film.

She’ll join plenty of others, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven, Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Josh Brolin, Bruce Willis and more, when A Dame to Kill For blasts its way into theatres on October 4th.

I can’t wait.

You did know that there was a Boy Meets World spinoff in the works, didn’t you?

Yep, that’s right. Girl Meets World has been in development over at Disney for some time now. Both Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage have signed on to reprise their classic characters (Topanga and Cory, respectively).

We’ve all been wondering who would be playing the aforementioned girl, and we now have our answer. EW revealed today that 11 year old Rowan Blanchard, who previously appeared in Spy Kids 4D and The Back-up Plan, will be playing the role of Riley Matthews.

Girl Meets World is schedule to begin its pilot production next month. I know I’ll be watching whenever it premieres, will you?

An interesting tweet today from Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez revealed (unsurprisingly) that the film received an NC-17 rating when submitted to the MPAA.

NC-17, of course, is the most extreme rating that the MPAA will give. It replaced the X rating in 1990, and since then only a handful of films have been released as NC-17.

The description of the rating is as follows:

NC-17 — No One 17 and Under Admitted. An NC-17 rated motion picture is one that, in the view of the Rating Board, most parents would consider patently too adult for their children 17 and under. No children will be admitted. NC-17 does not mean “obscene” or “pornographic” in the common or legal meaning of those words, and should not be construed as a negative judgment in any sense. The rating simply signals that the content is appropriate only for an adult audience. An NC-17 rating can be based on violence, sex, aberrational behavior, drug abuse or any other element that most parents would consider too strong and therefore off-limits for viewing by their children.

Evil Dead won’t hit theatres like this of course. The tweet confirmed that Alvarez recut the film to achieve the less extreme R rating.

Does this mean we’ll be getting an unrated cut of the film when it hits Blu-Ray? You have seen the Red Band trailer for Evil Dead, haven’t you?

Evil Dead hits theatres on April 12th.

Honestly, I’d forgotten all about Knights of Badassdom until now.

The first trailer for the movie premiered in 2011… and now it’s 2013 and we still haven’t seen the feature. As far as I know, nobody really knows why the movie hasn’t been released, but seeing as a new trailer has just been revealed, could it be too far off?

Check out the hilarious trailer below, but I wouldn’t hold your breath for this one. Knights of Badassdom currently has no set release date (thought its official website says that it’s coming 2012… yes, 2012). The movie has a pretty awesome cast too, which includes Peter Dinklage, Summer Glau, Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, and Community’s Danny Pudi.

“After being dumped by his sexy girlfriend Beth, Joe (Kwanten) reluctantly decides to join Eric (Zahn) and his LARPing (Live Action Role Players) friends in the woods rather than stay behind and feel sorry for his newly single status. There he meets hot, ass-kicking, intimidating LARPer Gwen (Glau), and finds himself plunged into a surreal adventure wilder than he ever imagined when a make-believe wizard casts an all-too-real spell from an ancient book. That spell releases an actual demon with a taste for human blood — and souls — that starts systematically decimating the players in this suddenly deadly “game.” Will our guys become the heroes they have been pretending to be before time runs out?”

It’s not the TV reboot that has been rumoured lately (and that I’m immensely hoping for), but this is still pretty exciting.

IDW is launching a new monthly X-Files series. Sure, it’s set after the underwhelming events of I Want to Believe, but I’ve got high hopes for this one. The new series is set to launch this June, while reprints of older books (released between 1995 and 2009) will be released before then.

From the press release:

Over two movies and two hundred television episodes, THE X-FILES, is a juggernaut of science fiction-tinged intrigue, unique characters and carefully constructed stories. The show’s popularity raged into the comic world, seeing successful series mounted by publishers Topps and Wildstorm. Despite this, new publishing has not been available since 2009’s joint Wildstorm/IDW crossover – 30 Days of Night/The X-Files – leaving fans without a venue for the continuing sequential adventures of Mulder and Scully… until now.

No word yet on who will write or illustrate the new book. Are you excited for this? Or would you prefer that Mulder and Scully stay retired?

Bryan Singer has just revealed that Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore will all be returning for X-Men: Days Of Future Past. The trio of course are all X-Men veterans (last appearing in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand), having portrayed Shadowcat, Rogue, and Iceman respectively.

Where would we be without Twitter, am I right? We certainly wouldn’t have this fantastic tidbit of information (and we wouldn’t know who MIGHT be directing ‘Justice League’ either)!

You’ll be able to see these three, along with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman and many, many others (hopefully including Lucas Till, who we spoke to just a few weeks ago) when X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres on July 18th, 2014.

It looks like Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome is finally headed to television!

No, it (sadly) didn’t get picked up for more episodes, but the series that premiered last year on Machinima has been stitched together and will be air as a two hour movie on February 10th at 9PM.

New scenes will also be included in the SyFy premiere, so even if you think you’ve seen it all, you haven’t! Nine days later, on February 19th, the complete edition will hit Blu-Ray everywhere.

Can’t wait? Check out the first episode of the series below, and follow the links below that for the rest of Blood & Chrome.
