So… Planning on picking up a PS4?

On Friday, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed a neat teaser for their upcoming keynote presentation (this Wednesday at 6PM ET). The video was a How It’s Made style look at the beginning of the Playstation brand, through to the end of the first Playstation’s lifecycle. The teaser sealed the deal for me, and I now firmly believe that Wednesday’s announcement will include new Playstation hardware. I also guessed that we’d be seeing Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 videos before Wednesday arrived.

The PS2 video has been released; titled Evolution of Playstation: Playstation 2. The content is very similar to that of the first video, but of course chronicling the life of the second generation console. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Are you looking forward to Wednesday’s announcement? When do you think the PS3 video will drop? Is that leaked controller the real thing?

In early February, Sony invited all of us to a special presentation about the future of Playstation. The internet immediately went wild with speculation that the announcement of a fourth Playstation console was imminent; the Wall Street Journal also confirmed the speculation with a reliable source.

I didn’t believe it at first, but after seeing today’s follow-up teaser, I’m not sure what else it could be; watch the video below and you’ll see what I mean!

Images of an apparently legitimate prototype controller have also made their way online. It looks similar to the DualShock we know and love, but with an intriguing touch panel in the centre. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not you believe this one, but multiple sources have confirmed that it’s a real (though early) prototype.

Sony’s presentation will stream live this Wednesday, February 20th at 6PM Eastern. Will you be watching? Will you be disappointed if we don’t see a new console? Sound out below!

This movie looks BAD ASS.

Watch the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Haven’t seen the trailer? Head here first!

Olympus Has Fallen looks awesome, and hits theatres on March 22nd.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning¹s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President and avert an even bigger disaster. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) directs an all-star cast featuring Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo, Ashley Judd, and Rick Yune.

After three years of development (and three years of everyone wondering when it would be coming out), developer Digital Extremes today finally revealed when we’ll be able to get our hands on Star Trek: The Video Game.

Unsurprisingly, it’s right around the time that the highly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness will hit theatres. Star Trek: The Video Game will launch for PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 23rd, just a few weeks before the next film is set to premiere.

Namco Bandai has also revealed a new making-of video for the title, which features Executive Producer Brian Miller taking us through the game’s Co-Op mode. Check it out below!

What do you think? Will you be picking this one up?

Following yesterday’s key art reveal for NBC’s Hannibal, showrunner Brian Fuller has (finally) announced the date of the long-awaited series premiere.

Awesome. While it seems like everyone was expecting Hannibal to premiere in either Summer or Fall, we’re getting a Spring launch of the series. I’m pretty excited for this one; we haven’t seen a trailer yet, but the images revealed so far have all looked pretty great.

This puts Hannibal’s premiere just a month after that other contemporary serial killer prequel series (which also looks fantastic), Bates Motel.

Will you be tuning in?

Rooster Teeth Productions (creators of Red Vs. Blue) today released a new trailer for their upcoming animated series, RWBY (pronounced ruby).

I’d never heard of the series so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but this preview for RWBY absolutely blew me away. Unfortunately, the series premiere is five months from now; RWBY will officially premiere at this year’s Rooster Teeth Expo in July.

Watch the new trailer below, and get excited; RWBY looks to be something special.

RWBY brings four very different girls together for one legendary purpose. These four fighters will come face-to-face with menacing creatures, devious villains, and an incredible cast of characters.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; it is a phenomenal time to be a Nintendo fan.

Just three weeks ago we were treated to a fantastic Nintendo Direct presentation, and the things we saw on that day alone were more than enough to make us believe that we’d have a good year. It seems as though that presentation was just the tip of the iceberg, as today’s follow up revealed things we NEVER would have expected.

2013 has been hailed as the year of Luigi, and it’s about freaking time. If you have 30 minutes to spare, watch today’s presentation below! If not, all the details are outlined in the press release, just scroll down!

Enjoy, and let us know what you think!

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– After decades of playing second fiddle to the No. 1 video game hero, Luigi is getting some love from Nintendo. Nintendo has named 2013 the “Year of Luigi,” thanks to the numerous appearances that Mario’s timid, green-clad twin brother will be making in games this year. In a Nintendo Direct video, Nintendo provided details about games on the way that feature Luigi, as well as information about more than two dozen upcoming games, including content for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS across packaged and digital formats.

“Luigi is just the green tip of the iceberg of all the great news we have to share with Nintendo fans this year and beyond,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and COO. “We’re showing how Nintendo 3DS and Wii U continue to be a source of fun, entertainment and great surprises.”

Amazing, right?

If you like your mobile games simple, addicting, and stylish, then Jason Pickering and Forest Moon Games have a very fresh (yet retro looking) treat for you.

Relic Rush has joined the multitude of auto-runner titles available on the iPhone today; it does however bring a new look and feel to the genre, giving it a distinct advantage over its current competitors. Check out the launch trailer for Relic Rush below and see what I mean!

That’s right, Relic Rush is filled to the brim with delightful pixel art and catchy chiptunes. It’s really incredible just how gorgeous and colourful this game manages to be, all while maintaining an extremely retro style. The vibrant and quirky soundtrack adds to the old school feeling, regardless of the fact that it’s something your Atari 2600 would never have been able to pull off. Relic Rush is one of the first titles featuring pixel art that I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience, and I now know just how effective it can be.

Gameplay could not be simpler. Relic Rush is an auto-runner, meaning that without any input from the player, the character will constantly head for his/her goal. Without your help however, they don’t stand a chance of getting there. There’s just one control for you to master in Relic Rush; if you’re finger is on the screen, the character will stop, as soon as you let go, they’ll start to run again. Simple, right? Sure, but it’s not as easy as you might think.

It looks easy, but even this level took me quite a few attempts.
It looks easy, but even this level took me quite a few attempts.

Timing is key. The path to your goal (an idol crafted from gold, silver, or bronze depending on how quickly you can get there) will not be an easy one. Murderous creatures, seemingly endless gaps, frictionless ice, and more all stand between you and the sweet, sweet taste of victory.

Relic Rush features 160 unique levels, and with timing being so important, you’ll be seeing some of them a lot. Each unique stage is well crafted, and while certain levels can be frustrating, once you finally complete them you’ll feel perplexed that you ever had trouble.

Four different environments await you, all with different obstacles.
Four different environments await you, all with different obstacles.

Relic Rush is a universal app; purchasing just once nets you an optimized version for iPods, iPhones, and iPads alike. The main feature I hope a future version of the game includes is iCloud syncing; I can play Relic Rush on both my iPad and iPhone, but any progress that I make on one device is independent of the other. iCloud syncing would allow me to start the game on any iDevice, and continue my game on any other.

I had an absolute blast with Relic Rush; the fantastic retro style coupled with the insanely addictive, absurdly simple gameplay means that I’ll be going back to this one for some time. Mobile gamers, you’re in for a treat with Relic Rush.

Relic Rush scores a cool 4.5/5. It’s currently available on the iOS App Store for just $.99. The soundtrack is also available for download on BandCamp.

Sigh… first Bioshock Infinite suffered numerous delays, and now this.

Naughty Dog revealed today that their upcoming survival-adventure, The Last of Us will be coming a few weeks later than expected. The game was initially set to hit store shelves on May 7th, but that date has been pushed back to June 14th.

The Last of Us looks absolutely phenomenal. In my opinion, Naughty Dog can take all the time they need, I’ll be picking this one up on day one regardless.

Read the press release below, and let us know if you’ll be buying the game!

The Last of Us is an ambitious project. In many ways it may be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious project to date – brand new universe and cast of characters, brand new tech, brand new genre, not to mention it’s easily the longest campaign Naughty Dog has ever made.

As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realize just how massive Joel and Ellie’s journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards.

As a team we pride ourselves on setting a very high quality bar for every aspect of our games – gameplay, story, art, design, technology and more. We want to make sure The Last of Us raises that bar even further – for ourselves, and most importantly, for you, our fans.

The extra wait will be very short and your patience will be rewarded. Update your calendars. You won’t even have to change seasons. The Last of Us will be available June 14th, 2013. Until then, know that we will be working extremely hard to deliver an experience that matches your high expectations.

It’s been some time since we’ve seen or heard anything come out of NBC’s currently-in-production Hannibal prequel (we saw a first batch of images all the way back in October), so it’s nice to know that someone over there is thinking about us.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, NBC has released a romantic new piece of key art for the series. The image features Hannibal himself (Mads Mikkelsen) resting his chin on an eerily white skull while plenty of other bones (and a bouquet of roses) litter the table in front of him. Creepy.

Check out the image below, and let us know what you think! The 13 episode first season currently has no release date, but will feature a pilot directed by David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night).

One of the most fascinating literary characters comes to life on television for the first time: psychiatrist-turned-serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. In this new drama from Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies,” “Heroes”), based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels, we see where this incredible story began.

Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…

Starring brilliant young actor Hugh Dancy as Will Graham, “Hannibal” will breathe new life into a deadly classic.

This game just keeps getting cooler.

Warner Bros. Interactive revealed today that Aquaman will be joining the multitude of characters taking a stand in Injustice: Gods Among Us. A fairly badass reveal trailer accompanied the announcement, and if it’s any indication, Aquaman will be a force to be reckoned with.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Injustice: Gods Among Us hits PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 16th. The game is NOT coming to Wii U as was previously believed.

“Gods Among Us” debuts as a bold new fighting game franchise that introduces a deep, original story featuring a large cast of favorite DC Comics icons such as Batman, Cyborg, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Deathstroke, Solomon Grundy, Superman, Lex Luthor, The Flash, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Bane, Catwoman, Shazam, the Joker, and more. Set in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred, players will experience heroes and villains engaging in epic battles on a massive scale.

If Miles does end up quitting, I’m sure it won’t be for long (at least I hope not, I’ve grown quite attached to the kid). In any case, this is quite a fantastic homage, and I’m very excited for the issue.

Marvel today released a teaser image for an upcoming issue of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (issue #23 to be exact). The image (and its gigantic bold title) is clearly meant to bring our thoughts back to the classic 1967 issue of The Amazing Spider-Man (#50), in which Peter decides to give up his life as the misunderstood hero.

“The story behind this image will leave readers in tears! What could possibly drive Miles Morales to abandon his role as Ultimate Comics Spider-Man? Find out this May, in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23!”

With a synopsis like that, we know that something big will happen in the coming months, but what?

Check out the teaser below, and let us know what you think! Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23 hits shelves this May.

Pretty cool, huh?

Plot details are still scare on this one (and by scarce I mean nonexistent), but who wouldn’t want to jump back into Nemo‘s world?

Finding Nemo 2 news has been circling around since Summer 2012, when we learned that Finding Nemo co-director Andrew Stanton would be sitting in the chair solo for the sequel. Fan favourite Ellen Degeneres then signed to reprise her role as Dory, which left everyone wondering whether Albert Brooks would be back as well.

Today, you rest easy; Albert Brooks has signed on for Finding Nemo 2, according to Deadline. He’ll be reprising his role of Marlin for the new film.

No word yet on who will be voicing Nemo, as I’m guessing that Alexander Gould‘s voice has changed slightly since 2003.

Finding Nemo 2 is expected to hit theatres in 2016.

A&E has just released a new TV spot for their upcoming drama, Bates Motel.

I’m beyond excited for this series; every single teaser, every trailer, and every image has been insanely effective. I’m quite looking forward to checking into Bates Motel when it premieres on March 18th.

Watch the new spot below, and let us know what you think!

In “Bates Motel,” following the tragic death of her husband, Norma Bates buys a motel on the outskirts of the idyllic coastal town of White Pine Bay, seeking a fresh start. As Norma and Norman get ensconced in their new home, they discover this town isn’t quite what it seems, and the locals aren’t so quick to let them in on their secrets. But the Bates’ are done being pushed around and will do whatever it takes to survive – and will do whatever it takes to protect their own secrets.

I’ve been wondering when we’d be able to step into Batman’s shoes once more; if this information is correct, a new game could be much closer than anticipated!

It looks as thought the folks over at ComingSoon have been doing some digging. After picking through Warner’s Q1 Earnings Report, they’ve learned that a new Arkham title will be revealed (and possibly released) sometime this year!

While no game has officially been announced, it was Warner CFO John K. Martin that couldn’t hold his tongue, stating

“We also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013.”

No official details for the next title are currently known, but earlier this year it was rumoured that we’d find Bats in a prequel setting, meeting Joker for the very first time.

What do you think? Excited to see another game in the Arkham series (how could you not be)?

Update: According to sources close to VG247, the prequel title is in development at Rocksteady, but it is NOT the follow-up to Arkham City. The next Arkham title that Warner mentioned is rumoured to be in development by Spark Unlimited (Lost Planet 3, Legendary: The Box).

A dark and edgy Sci-Fi OzWhere do I sign up?

Warner Horizon Television announced today that they’ve picked up a series called Red Brick Road from producers Roy Lee and Geekscape pal Adrian Askarieh. Artist Rob Prior came up with the series, which is being described as a dark and edgy Oz sequel with a Sci-Fi setting.

Naturally, no plot details have been revealed, but we’ll definitely be keeping our eye on this one! It’s been far too long since we’ve seen anything sublimely cool and original come from the Oz franchise, and Red Brick Road sounds like it could be just that.

Adrian has had (and will have) quite the busy year! Along with Red Brick Road, he’ll be producing the Deus Ex film that was announced in July, the new Hitman project revealed just last week, and a project of his own creation, Leonardo Da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever.

What do you think? Are you planning to check this out?

How's this for dark and edgy?
How’s this for dark and edgy? (this has nothing to do with Red Brick Road)

If that title sounds familiar… well, it is. Just last October, season three of The Walking Dead premiered to over 10 million avid undead fans (that’s fans of the undead, not fans who are undead). This was a new record for the show, and one that most dramas will never, ever see.

Just four months later (after what seemed like a cruelly long two month break), they’ve done it again. Last night’s premiere of Episode 9 brought in a record 12.3 million viewers. Including repeats, total viewers for the evening topped out at 16.6 million.

Those are some absolutely mindblowing numbers. The Walking Dead has already been picked up for a fourth season, though current showrunner Glenn Mazzara will not be involved. Rumour has it however, that current producer and Geekscape pal Scott Gimple is in talks to fill the position; we sure hope things go better for him than they have the previous leads.

Did you watch last night’s episode? What did you think?

HE MAN DSC07449 SKELETOR DSC07451 SWORD DSC07381

By the Power of Grayskull! Masters of the Universe® in Super-Deformed Glory

It was a battle for the ages – or at least the ‘80s. Pajama-clad Saturday mornings were defined by the never- ending battle between good and evil: heroic He-Man® and evil Skeletor®. Surrounded by the forces of good, He-Man was a pop culture icon of the era and currently retains this status in cartoons, comics and more.

Comic Images is tapping into that memory vault this spring is, bringing six Masters of the Universe (MOTU) plush toys to market. Five characters – He-Man, Skeletor, Beast Man®, Trap Jaw®and Battle Cat® – are rendered in Comic Images’ own classic 7-inch Super-Deformed style, featuring giant heads on tiny bodies,  the popular look Comic Images innovated and for which it has become known. This will be the first time that plush versions of MOTU characters – as well as He-Man’s 30-inch iconic sword – will be available at brick and mortar stores, as well as online pop culture retailers.

“Mention Masters of the Universe at a cocktail party or BBQ and it is amazing what happens,” said Gordon. “You can almost see full grown men’s faces transform back to their youth with the memories of pretending to vanquish Skeletor with He-Man’s sword. It is a cultural touch point for 30- and 40-somethings and now they want to share it with their kids.”

MOTU Super-Deformed Plush has a suggested retail price of $9.99 – $11.99. All will be available at traditional and online retailers.

Disney and Pixar today released the theatrical trailer for their upcoming Monsters Inc. prequel, Monsters University.

I’m really excited for this one; I’m a huge fan of these characters and the world they come from, so after twelve long years (has it really been that long) I can’t wait to see Mike and Sulley in another adventure.

Wow, I was only ten years old the first time I saw Monsters Inc…

In any case, check out the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! Monsters University scares its way into theatres on June 21st!

“Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Welcome to Walking Dead Weekly! As the title implies, each week (bearing a new episode of course), we’ll be taking a look at the latest episode of the AMC series. I’ll let you know how I felt about each weekly offering, and will also compare it to what Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard were doing with the comic at the same time.

Last week December, Made to Suffer gave us a fantastic midseason finale that left us wishing (and begging) for more; it’s certainly been a long two months, but the world didn’t end (remember that whole snafu?), and now we’re back in action!

Made to Suffer introduced us to Tyreese (after what seemed like months and months of rumors that he’d be appearing), who along with his small group, discovers a back entrance to the prison while attempting to escape from a rogue band of walkers. Rick, Daryll, Oscar, and Michonne make their way to Woodbury in an attempt to free Glenn and Maggie, but of course it isn’t long before the community is made aware of their presence (possibly due in part to the multitude of gunfire). Michonne has some unfinished business with the Governor (and his zombie daughter), and after (re)killing Penny, she’s forced to take out the Governor’s eye to defend herself. The end of the episode sees the battle’s blame put on Merle, who after months of loyal service has become the Governor’s scapegoat. Daryl has also been captured, and the episode cuts to black as the crowd chants and calls for the death of the ‘terrorist’ brothers. What a way to leave us…

Let’s get to it! As alway’s there are plenty of spoilers below, so don’t read on until you’ve seen the episode!

Episode Thoughts – ‘The Suicide King’

Well, it’s good to be back (for the most part). How did you deal with your two-month break from the series? Pick up a few volumes of the comic? Play Telltale’s phenomenal game? Work on your pecs? After that climactic midseason finale, it’s great to finally see what Rick and the gang are up to.

The Suicide King opens just where Made to Suffer left off; Woodbury calling for the deaths of the captured ‘terrorists’, with Merle and Daryl locking eyes for the first time in months just moments before they’re told to kill each other.

Walking Dead Weekly
I guess this is where ‘fear the living’ comes from.

Naturally (being brothers and all), the two aren’t really into a fight to the death; after a few choice blows and a moment of planning to escape, Rick and Maggie show up just in time to save the day. A few of the Woodbury folk fall as the battle takes place, but our group escapes with barely a scratch. But that’s not all (of course); before the opening credits roll, a walker discovers a hole in Woodbury’s walls; it looks as though things are set to get worse for the townsfolk before they get better.

Walking Dead Weekly
They’re (understandably) not happy to see Merle.

The rescue team returns to Glenn and Michonne who are not happy to see Merle; after what he did to Maggie and Michonne, what could they really expect? In an unexpected turn, as Merle isn’t welcome in the group, Daryl decides to leave too, because after all, Merle is blood (and Carol will understand). Who knows how long this one will last, with Daryl being nearly everyone’s favourite character, he better be rejoining our group at some point.

After disappearing during the raid on Woodbury, it seems as though Michonne is no longer welcome in the group either (couldn’t she just have explained what she was doing); that means in just one trip out of the prison, the group has lost three of its most able members (Oscar falling victim to a gunshot during the last episode).

Walking Dead Weekly
I’m guessing that the two on the right don’t last long.

Back at the prison, Hershel tends to Tyreese and his group. Two of the (likely more expendable) members later decide they’d like to take over the prison, but Tyreese (being the good guy that he is) quickly puts a stop to the idea. Hershel tells them that it’s not his decision whether they stay or go, but Rick’s. Hmm… I wonder what Rick will say.

As Glenn, Maggie, and Rick head back to the prison, Glenn has a moment of temporary insanity; he viciously destroys a walker with nothing but his boot before reaming Rick out for letting Maggie go to Daryl instead of him (and for not killing Merle or the Governor for what they’ve done).

Walking Dead Weekly
Well… he’s not getting up.

Things are not going well in Woodbury. After the events of the previous night, much of the town feels unsafe and wants to leave. Just as Andrea speaks up in an attempt to calm the townspeople, walkers appear to scare everyone even further. Another civilian is taken down before the zombies are taken out. The Governor (who we haven’t seen since the previous evening) makes an appearance, shoots the suffering victim, and swiftly goes back indoors.

Walking Dead Weekly
What could be next for the town?

Rick, Maggie, and Glenn return to the prison, and as Rick tells Carol that Daryl is not coming back, we get to witness her heart break once again. How much hurt can one woman take before she snaps?

Things get a little weird at this point. Rick needs to decide whether Tyreese and his group get to stay. Hershel steps in after Ricks initial (expected) no, and states that as many times as Rick has been right, this time he’s dead wrong. Just as it looks like Rick is about to change his mind, he spots a silhouetted Lori standing on the prison balcony. At this point he goes batshit crazy, and Tyreese and his group make a swift exit as they think that Rick’s anger is directed at them. The episode cuts to black with Rick still screaming and everyone else (including the audience), looking rather confused; why is she in a dress? Why is she so dark looking when it’s clearly still daytime? What is she even doing there!?

Walking Dead Weekly

Hopefully next week brings some answers! Getting any Walking Dead after a two month break is very welcome, and this season 3.5 opener was a very decent offering (aside from a few odd moments and a fairly anticlimactic opening). Seeing the group so split up should lead to some interesting events in the future; it looks as though Daryl and Merle get into trouble as soon as the next episode begins, and who knows where Michonne will head next! It’s a mystery right now of course, but I thought that the whole ghost Lori thing was pretty lame; Rick just spent an entire episode talking to her on that broken telephone, so I really hope that this strange idea goes somewhere new.

What did you think of the episode? Was it as revealing as you’d hoped after this long wait, or were you left simply wishing for more (and not in the good way)? Check out the preview for next week’s episode below, and be sure to let us know what you thought of this week!

Comic Comparison

As with Made to SufferThe Suicide King is a tough episode to directly compare to the comic.

Nearly every moment that we’ve spent in the town of Woodbury (which has become an excellent contrast to the drab grey of the prison) has been a television only affair. The comic seemed to feature the town only as a place where we could witness the evils of the Governor, while on AMC series it has become a character in itself (and an infinitely intriguing one at that). I’m always happy when we get to spend a few minutes in the town, and it’s an extremely effective way to get us invested in characters that we never really got to know in the comic book.

Walking-Dead-Daryl-Merle-Dixon

Merle and Daryl fall front and centre for the beginning portion of this episode… which was never necessary in the comic because on paper the two never existed. This also means that Glenn didn’t really have anyone to be mad at on paper (furthered by the fact that Michonne was the one held captive in the comic and NOT Maggie), and that this rescue effort was never even necessary! As I mentioned in the last edition, Tyreese was brought into the group long before they ever came across the prison… Rick wasn’t as much of a dick back then, and if I remember correctly, welcomed his newfound allies with open arms.

Walking Dead Weekly
Yep… definitely nicer.

After Daryl left with Merle, stating simply that “Carol will understand”, I’m wondering if we’re set to soon see the death of her character. She went a little crazy after losing absolutely everything in the comic, and things are certainly seeming that way for her now. I’d be sad to see her go, as she’s a great member of the group, but I could definitely see this outcome before the season ends.

She offered herself up to a zombie in Issue 42
She offered herself up to a zombie in Issue 42

What else does the future hold? Only time will tell, but with just seven episodes left this season, shit must be hitting the fan soon; I just hope that the attack on the prison happens before episode sixteen, or it will be a very, very long wait for season four (and things may start to drag on before then)!

As always, thanks for reading, and we’ll see you next week!

As far as touchscreen friendly mobile games go, the Infinity Blade series is one of the best. The gorgeous graphics coupled with the smooth controls and simple, addicting gameplay means that once you’re in, you’re almost stuck playing until your battery runs dry.

At the third generation iPad unveiling in March 2012, Epic revealed Infinity Blade: Dungeons. This new title took the tried and true gameplay and style of the previous two games, and turned it on its head. Rather than being on rails, you would have the ability to roam wherever you wanted, and rather than adventuring alone, you could bring up to three friends with you.

http://youtu.be/4Rp-TTtpU0I

Looks awesome, right? Well, it appears as though it was too good to be true. During the development of the game, a group of Epic employees formed Impossible Studios; the team largely consisted of ex-employees of Big Huge Games (which closed in May 2012). Just six months after the studio became official, Epic has closed its doors and put its game on hold.

Here is the statement from Epic founder Tim Sweeny:

 We’re closing Impossible Studios.
When former members of Big Huge Games approached Epic last year, we saw the opportunity to help a great group of people while putting them to work on a project that needed a team. It was a bold initiative and the Impossible folks made a gallant effort, but ultimately it wasn’t working out for Epic.

In addition to providing Impossible Studios employees with 3 months of severance pay, we’ll be giving the team the opportunity to form a new company with the Impossible Studios name and the awesome Impossibear logo.

This means that Infinity Blade: Dungeons is now on hold as we figure out the future of the project.

-Tim Sweeney, Founder, Epic Games
It’s a sad day, both for Impossible Studios employees, and Infinity Blade fans. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Are you an Infinity Blade  player? How much were you looking forward to the game?

During yesterday’s quarterly earnings call, Ubisoft revealed a few cool tidbits about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series.

No major details were revealed, but it was announced that the next title will release during fiscal 2014, and will feature both a new main protagonist and time period.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also revealed that the next title will be developed by multiple teams, adding  “It is the benefit of multiple teams, working on multiple chapters of the brand, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin’s Creed game.”

More details are expected to be announced soon, and fiscal 2014 sounds like an awesome time to release the title; can you imagine how beautiful those cities will look on next-gen consoles?

Which era would you like to see the game take place in? Are you disappointed that we won’t be seeing Connor again?

If you’re a zombie fan and haven’t yet picked up Nintendo’s Wii U, you’re about to have a fantastic opportunity.

Nintendo announced today that the Zombi U Deluxe Wii U Bundle is finally coming to North America (it’s been available in the UK since the console’s launch). On top of the regular Deluxe console contents (32gb Black Console, Gamepad, Nintendoland, Digital Deluxe Promotion, etc), this bundle also includes Ubisoft’s phenomenal ZombiU, and one of Nintendo’s Pro controllers.

The bundle becomes available on February 17th, and will retail for $389.99 (a cool $70 savings from all items being purchased separately).

ZombiU is a fantastic title, but be warned: it’s damn scary, and hard as hell. If you like your games to hold your hand through their entirety, you should probably avoid this one. If you like badass experiences and insanely affective atmospheres, please check this out, you won’t be disappointed.

Last month, an unofficial trailer made its rounds, composed of early footage from The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. The footage was rather underwhelming, and as such, I’m glad it was both early and not official.

Today, Activision released an official trailer for the game, featuring plenty of gameplay, some impressive voicework, and a general idea of just what the game will look like. I’m still not sure that I’m sold on the title, but I’m much more open to giving it a chance after this trailer! Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a do-whatever-you-need-to-survive first-person action game that brings the deep, character-driven world of AMC’s Emmy®Award-winning TV series onto console gaming systems and the PC. The game follows the mysterious, crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon, brought to life by TV series star Norman Reedus, alongside his overbearing brother Merle, voiced by Michael Rooker, on a haunting, unforgiving journey across the Georgia countryside. Players will need to tread carefully on this desperate quest, scrounging for food, water, and ammunition to survive against nightmares both living and undead.

Preorder bonuses for the game have also been revealed, and out outlined below!

GameStop Herd Mode Challenge – How many frenzied flesh-eaters can you survive against before joining their ranks? Take on endless waves of walkers, each more dangerous than the last, in the all-new Herd Mode. Each wave of undead held off brings with it a new outbreak of hungry biters and new opportunities to rack up an even higher score.

Amazon Walker Execution Pack– Give yourself an edge (or five) with this ‘unique’ weapon kit. The Amazon Walker Execution Pack adds multiple melee options to your arsenal, including a survival knife, sawtoothed machete, kukri, reinforced hatchet, and advanced machete. With ammo scarce and the undead attracted to loud noises, a sharp, silent blade might just be your most trusted companion.

So what do you think? The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct releases on March 19 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, and March 26 for Wii U.

This was too awesome not to share. If you like monster flicks and B-movies, this is for you.

Today marked the release of the first trailer for Mike Mendez’s Big Ass Spider. If the name didn’t give it away, the movie features a giant spider hellbent on destroying Los Angeles. Greg Grunberg and Lombardo Boyar play the exterminators who must defeat it (after the army fails of course).

Sounds pretty awesome right? Watch the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Big Ass Spider is set to premiere during SXSW’s midnighters program!

Assassin’s Creed fans, it’s time to clear some space on your toy shelf… You do have a toy shelf, right?

Ubisoft and Mcfarlane Toys announced today an agreement to create action figures based on the Assassins Creed series. The figures will launch later this year, and prototypes of each will be shown off at this year’s International Toy Fair (booth #4921 if you’re going) .

Series one will consist of seven figures, including Connor and Haytham Kenway; each will stand ~6-inches tall and feature over 25 points of articulation. Price-wise, you’re looking at $15-16 per unit, which will be well worth it for the typical quality of Mcfarlane figures.

A cool bonus for gamers, straight from Macfarlane himself:

“We’re always looking to raise the bar with our figures, and Ubisoft has been a great partner to help make that happen. These will be the first McFarlane Toys to include integration with the game itself. Our Assassin’s Creed figures will include codes that unlock unique content in game – things like new weapons, clothing colors, or other customization options. Features like this reward the hardcore fans who buy the figures, and give collectors some added value.”

Sign me up! Are you into these? Which characters would you like to see in the next series?

AC_McFarlane_Connor_02

This is absolutely amazing news.

The Sword is a little known Image title first published in late 2007. Written and drawn by the Luna brothers, the phenomenal series quickly became one of my favourite titles for the entirety of its 24-issue limited run (you can listen to Jonathan proclaim his love for the series all the way back on Geekscape 45). The series ended nearly three years ago (with quite the final issue I might add), so naturally it’s been some time since we’ve heard anything about it.

Today, things changed; Lakeshore Entertainment  has acquired the film rights to The Sword. Of course, this is just the first of many steps to getting a film produced. We know nothing of casting, directors, or release dates; but The Sword is happening, and that’s the best news I’ll hear all day.

Excited? Who would you like to see play Dara Brighton? If you haven’t read the comic, I recommend you pick it up immediately, and get ready for an absolutely mindblowing series (the first issue is also available to read FOR FREE).

Unlike North America, the Japanese arcade market is still (somewhat) flourishing. This means that they’re getting some amazing titles that we’ll never, ever see.

Like the new Mario Kart arcade title, Mario Kart: Arcade GP DX. The game is set to release later this year, but will be shown off in just a few weeks at the Japanese Amusement Expo. Of course, it looks like classic Mario Kart, but with some fresh ideas; the gliding mechanic from Mario Kart 7 is still around, and this new edition will also show driver’s faces using a unique camera system. It’s also being developed by Namco Bandai… yep, you read that right.

Mario Kart
Every loves gliders, right?

So Namco Bandai is doing an Arcade Mario Kart… now what about the Wii U version? Could Namco be developing that as well? Will the camera features make it to the Wii U version? Maybe we’ll see some classic Namco characters! We should know everything come this year’s E3, as Mario Kart will be unveiled and playable at the popular expo.

In any case, I wish there was an arcade around me so I could get my hands on this!
