Usually, companies will try to keep their cards close to their chests right before a big E3 presentation. Apparently, Amazon had other plans when it came to Nintendo’s upcoming Legend of Zelda title for the Wii U and NX.

The image shows Link climbing a cliff with an expansive kingdom visible in the background. Based on the artwork itself, it’s clear that the focus seems to be exploration, while also showing off how big Hyrule might be this time around. With constant rumors swirling that this next entry in the storied Legend of Zelda series will take Link through a Skyrim inspired open world version of Hyrule, it would explain why this image sets the tone that it does.

With only a day away before Nintendo tips its hand to the public regarding their next big title, that gives us plenty of time to speculate until then. What conclusions do you draw after seeing this image, and what do you hope to see when the game finally releases early next year? Yacht Club Games isn’t done with Shovel Knight yet! The team is busy preparing the next two campaigns for the game starring members of the Order of No Quarter, King Knight and Specter Knight. A short video posted on their twitter feed gives a taste of what to expect from King Knight:

Much like the previously released Plague Knight campaign, beating the original game is not required to unlock the additional characters. Simply inputting a code (which, in the past, Yacht Club Games has shared on social media) at the title screen after the corresponding update will do the job.

The tweet also led to a discussion of additional updates that were part of the Kickstarter‘s stretch goals, specifically Gender Swap Mode. It looks like progress is continuing smoothly on that front as well and fans can expect to gain access to the mode with one of the campaign updates. It is always nice to see a Kickstarter campaign make good on its promises.

What do you think of this news? Will you be revisiting the world of Shovel Knight once again? Let us know in the comments!

AWHAAAA!?!?

WHAT’S THIS!?! A VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER HAVING FUN WITH A VIDEO GAME?!? OUTRAGEOUS! Where are all the grey colors? Where are all the FPS segments? WHY ISN’T THERE A VEHICLE BUILDING MECHANIC!! All joking aside, Yooka-Laylee is shaping up to be one hell of a game. Ever since going radio silent near the end of last year, the folks over at Playtonic Games have really seemed to get their metaphorical rear in gear and now have blown all their new info out over the spans of the last 3 weeks.

Yooka Tribalstack

Today’s new trailer features Yooka and Laylee racing through many different worlds meeting different characters, pummeling baddies, and transforming into weird mutated creatures. Along with this we’ve also learned new news about the game.  It seems as though the game has sadly been pushed back from it’s initial Q4 2016 release and is now heading for a Q1 2017 release (fingers crossed for January.) Along with that we’ve also learned that Playtonic has been Internally hard at work on the Wii U and PC versions of Yooka, while Worms developer, Team 17 is working on the Xbox One and PS4 versions. Enough chit chat though, take a look at the new trailer and tell us what you think about it in the comments!

Skylanders fans are in for an interesting game this year.

Yesterday, Activision announced Skylanders Imaginators, A game centered around creating your own Skylander. The game launches October 16th and will be  bundled with the portal of power, the custom character portal, as well as 2 sensei figures. The game is targeting a release date of October 16th for Xbox 360, One, PS4, PS3, and Wii U. Do you like Skylanders? Are you excited for this year’s game? Let us know in the comments below!

This morning, VD-dev Games, developers of the 3DS E-shop title Ironfall Invasion released a trailer for their new racing game Rise: Race The Future. The game looks to be a fully customizable racing game for all current gen consoles and mobile devices, but it seems as though another platform has snuck its way in.

NX

Well, well, well. It looks like our good old mysterious friend the NX as made an appearance at the end of this trailer. Does this really mean anything though? Perhaps. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo was planning an NX reveal in the near future. As for the game itself, the developers are hoping to have it done b this winter. Check out the trailer below! Are you interested in this game now? Will you be picking it up? Tell us in the comments below!

Fans eagerly awaiting for Playtonic’s highly anticipated Banjo Kazooie spiritual successor, Yooka Laylee have finally been given an update that they’ll BEE happy about. Many new things were announced today, but the big STINGER was the reveal of the main villain Capital B. BEEing a corporate B.E.O of Hivory Towers, his company has recently teamed up with the villainous Dr. Quack of Quack Crop. to engineer an evil plan to BEEcome the most powerful company in the world.

Capital BOf course the biggest thing people have been BUZZing about is the release date for the highly anticipated playground demo which finally got a release date of sometime in July. While there’s no solid release date still, the team has re-assured people that they won’t BEE (ok I’ll stop now) having to wait until 2017 as they are still targeting an October 2016 release date for the game for Xbox One, Wii U, PS4, and PC. What do you think about the game? Are you excited to finally get the chance to play it soon? Let us know in the comments!

Yooka_Toybox_01

In a surprising announcement this morning, Nintendo has announced that they have partnered up with Microsoft & Mojang to create a special Super Mario Mash-up pack for the Wii U version of Minecraft.

The free update on May 17th will include 40 new skins including Mario, Luigi, Diddy Kong, Waluigi, the Koopalings, and much more. There will also be 15 pieces of new music and item textures, as well as a pre-made world for you to explore. If you don’t want to fill your internal hard drive too much, then you’ll be able to purchase a retail version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition with the mash-up pack included for $29.99 on June 17th.  Are you looking forward to the free update? Tell us in the comments below!

After a year of delays and months of silence, we’re finally getting Mighty No. 9 on June 24th… Assuming you wanted it on consoles.

In an announcement to backers that echos our story from last week, the team behind the controversial Kickstarter funded action platformer that’s set to be a spiritual successor to the Mega Man series has gone gold, with a final release date of June 24th. Acknowledging the plethora of problems that have plagued the project for longer than any publisher would want to admit, Keiji Inafune, the father of Mega Man and project lead behind MN9, posted the following message to his backers and fans:

To all of our backers and fans of Mighty No. 9,

Firstly, I would like to say again how sincerely sorry we are for how long we have kept all of our fans waiting. We are finally able to deliver some long awaited news regarding Mighty No. 9. We have now confirmed the following release dates for Mighty No. 9: June 21st 2016 (North America & Asia) and June 24th 2016 (World Wide). We understand that as a result of the various delays we have disappointed and let down our fans, but we are happy to finally be able to deliver the game to everyone who brought us this far.

With the game having “gone gold” we are in the last final stages of being able to deliver it into your hands, be that via your favorite retail outlet, or via digital channels.

Therefore the release date we are announcing is set in stone and there will be no further delays for the game.

Portable versions for PlayStation® Vita and Nintendo 3DS ™ will follow at a later point.

It has been almost three years since the start of our Kickstarter campaign, which was only made possible through the support of our backers and fans around the world. This is a project where everyone’s passions were combined in order to create something very special, and we are looking forward to delivering the final product to everyone who was involved. There can be no stronger connection between game creators and game fans.

Now that the dust has settled, we will be delivering Mighty No. 9 to everyone next month. How long will it take you to clear the main story on NORMAL? How many people are going to be able to clear MANIAC mode? What is going to be the fastest record for the time attack mode? We are looking forward to seeing the community answer all of these questions for us! Make sure to let us know your feedback and thoughts on the game through our SNS channels as you play the game. Your voices are what made this game possible, and we want to continue hearing what you think so that it may influence our future endeavors. “

Unfortunately, gamers who wanted the portable version will still have to continue to wait. The call for community interaction at the end of his statement is comforting, but after delaying the game for so long for a bonus feature like Multiplayer, (a feature that was added to a single player game as a Stretch Goal and was largely seen as a cool bonus rather than a game defining mode,) the multiple supplemental Kickstarter campaigns despite raising far more than their initial goal, a huge visual overhaul compared to what was shown in the concept art, radio silence after the latest delay, and working on side projects like an anime and other games while this one was continuously put on hold, we’ll have to see if it’s enough to win back the faith of the community.

What say you, Geekscapist? Are you excited about the game finally releasing, or are you long over it?

Last week we reported on the unfortunate news that Nintendo was only planning on having Zelda Wii U as the only playable game at E3 this year, but were confident that they’d still deliver an enjoyable digital event as they do every year.

Well, this morning they just announced their full E3 plans today on their official website, but it wasn’t what people were hoping for at all. We all knew that the entire floor space of the company this year will be dedicated to playing the new Zelda game, but what about their other announcements. Well it turns out, they have no others. No digital event or even any new game announcements. Turns out that instead of a digital event on June 14th at 9AM pacific, they’ll instead have a Nintendo Treehouse Live segment showing off the new game in action. The only other thing announced is that fans have a chance of winning a trip to E3 by sharing their favorite Zelda memories. More details can be found here if you’re interested.

This is very worrisome due to the fact that it seems like the only thing Nintendo has going for them this holiday season so far is Pokemon Sun & Moon, which will be great games in their own right, but they won’t be able to carry the holiday season alone. What do you think about this new info? Are you still excited for E3? Are you worried about Nintendo’s holiday line-up as well? Tell us in the comments below!

Earlier last week, we told you guys about a new humble bundle that was released titled Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle.

Today, they just sweetened the deal for you by adding 3 new games for it if you choose to pay $9.74 or more for it. These include Nano Assault EX for 3DS, Swords & Soldiers 2 for Wii U, and the recent Wii U indie hit, Runbow. What do you think of these new additions? Which new game are you looking the most forward to playing? Tell us in the comments below!

humble friends of nintendo update

It was inevitable that Nintendo would release Callie and Marie amiibo, right? I mean, when you consider the wild success of Splatoon after it released last year, and how the Squid Sisters were so popular that they got their own live concert back in January. Data mining showed that their amiibo were at least planned, but we had no idea when, or even if these toys would ever be a thing.

Turns out, we’re going to have them a lot sooner than we expected.

On July 8th, the Toys To Life section will become one big Splatfest, because that’s when the Squid Sisters will make their big debut! Releasing exclusively in a double pack and retailing at $24.99, the amount of detail going into both seems to be above and beyond the typical Nintendo figure, (which have had the tendency to look like McDonalds toys in certain cases). I mean, just look at them in the reveal trailer below! They have sparkles on their dress!

If that wasn’t enough excitement for you, the original Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl and Squid amiibo from last May will also get a re-release on the same day, featuring alternate colors of each. Retailing at $34.99 for the triple pack, or $12.99 individually, they line up with how the previous sets were released in price as well. While the boy and girl will still be available on their own, the squid can only be obtained by buying the triple pack. Again. Why does Nintendo do this to us!?

Splatton amiibo set

Anyway, Callie and Marie will unlock a variety of new songs and scenes featuring the pair when they’re not announcing the upcoming battle stages, or pitting friends and families against each other with their Splatfests. Any other functionality has yet to be announced, but can we please get Mario Maker costumes? Thanks in advance!

The latest Humble Bundle announced, “Friends of Nintendo,” is certainly one for Nintendo fans to consider. It is jam-packed with tons of worthwhile Nintendo Wii U and 3DS games to purchase, $179 worth to be precise. And unlike the previous Nintendo-themed Bundle, this one can be redeemed by European gamers along with their North American compatriots. The charities supported by this bundle are code.org and SOS Children’s Village.

Those who donate $1 or more, will unlock eShop codes to Retro City Rampage: DX for the 3DS, Affordable Space Adventures for the Wii U, as well as Shantae and The Pirate’s Curse (review) for both the Wii U and 3DS.

Donate more than $13 to receive eShop codes for Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (review) for the 3DS plus Darksiders II for the Wii U.

But wait, there’s more! Donate more than the average of $9.76 to get codes for Freedom Planet for the 3DS, Citizens of Earth (review) for the 3DS or Wii U (your choice), and Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure for the 3DS. You will also be unlock an exclusive 3DS Home Menu theme from Retro City Rampage: DX. More games will be added to this list “soon.”

Humble Bundle 3DS Menu Theme- Retro City Rampage: DX

What do you think of these offerings? Are you planning on participating? Let us know in the comments!

Briefly: So… we still don’t know much of anything about the darned thing, but at least we know when we can buy it (shut up and take my money).

Late last night (because Nintendo is Japanese, duh), the big N held its quarterly earnings call, and used that call to announce a couple of interesting tidbits about the next Nintendo console.

It won’t be launching this year as most seem to have been anticipating, but Nintendo revealed that the platform codenamed NX will launch globally in March of 2017. They’ve also reiterated that NX is “a brand-new concept,” but did not elaborate on what that concept was (could it be the handheld/home console hybrid that many have been speculating?).

Interestingly enough, apparently we won’t be seeing the NX at this year’s E3. The company has announced that the new Legend of Zelda title will be Nintendo’s E3 focus this year, and while Nintendo usually offers a plethora of announcements and playable titles at the expo, The Legend of Zelda will be the only playable title that Nintendo offers this year.

Just like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, when the as-yet untitled Zelda title launches in 2017, it’ll hit both the Wii U and NX, so regardless of whether or not you plan to pick up an NX at launch, you won’t be left in the dust when it comes to that beautiful new Zelda game.

How do you feel about the NX launch window? Are you planning to pick one up, or are you waiting to see exactly what Nintendo has to announce? Be sure to sound out below!

In 2014, Nintendo had two mystery projects on display for the Wii U. Code named Project Giant Robot and Project Guard, both felt like exciting, new ways to use the Wii U Game Pad, but were too thin of an experience to feel like their own games. In fact, we predicted that these two demos would end up as mini games in a larger collection when we previewed the two projects.  While Giant Robot has yet to resurface, Project Guard was revived as Star Fox Guard, a Slippy Toad focused pack in included with copies of Star Fox Zero. As a bonus game, Nintendo would have been able to leave the  game as is and still would have left little room to complain. After all, how can you complain about a free game? When playing the final build at Wondercon this year however, and it’s immediately clear that the game has gone through a variety of improvements to make it feel more like a complete game in its own right.

Star Fox Guard Screen 1

In what’s essentially a tower defense game, Guard approaches the growing genre in a more unique way. With the TV showing a variety of gun mounted surveillance cameras while the Game Pad shows the map, camera locations and enemy positions, it’s up to Slippy to use each camera to fight off enemies before they reach the core of the map. This isn’t as simple as it sounds, since not only will you have to manage your cameras while trying to look at around nine at a time, but you’ll also need to hold powerful enemies at bay who can inflict status effects such as freezing and static, (most of which have been added since its 2014 reveal). Make too many mistakes, and they can destroy your cameras permanently.

Fortunately, (or maybe less so for the less social readers out there,) Guard has been presented as a multiplayer party game in each of its iterations despite only having one player support. The idea is that spectators in your living room will be able to watch the cameras with you, shouting out which cameras have enemies in sight while the player manages switching and shooting with the Game Pad. Friends will be a lifesaver when it comes to successfully defending your base, especially when the right advice can lead to you spotting waves of enemies you might have overlooked otherwise. Extra support actions like being able to unfreeze one camera by shooting it with another and destroying certain enemies first to avoid being overwhelmed will take more of the player’s attention, making friends even more welcomed.

Star Fox Guard Screen 2

Of course, you CAN play it by yourself, which presents a surprisingly high level of challenge, especially with later stages. This arcade style of game play where you’re competing for completion and high scores has the potential to become highly addicting, becoming further amplified by stubborn gamers like myself who would rather die a thousand in game deaths than ask for help. If nothing else, it will be the first time Slippy has been strong and independent.

While this might not be enough for a standalone retail release, Star Fox Guard looks like it will serve its purpose well as an awesome extra for fans who have waited so long for the team’s next adventure. Stay tuned for our full impressions of both Guard and Star Fox Zero once they are available for review.

While there hasn’t been much info on it, Nintendo & Atlus’s upcoming crossover game Tokyo Mirage Sessions: #FE is almost ready for it’s U.S debut! To help promote the game, Nintendo just release a new trailer for the highly anticipated crossover titled First Beats. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think about it! On top of this, they also announced a special edition for the game awhile back that comes with an art book, soundtrack, and a whole bunch of other great things. If you’re interested in the special edition, you can grab it on Gamestop’s website for about $80. Tokyo Mirage Sessions will be released on June 24th 2016.

I’ve been lucky enough to try out Star Fox Zero a few times over its development, and my excitement only increased as time went on. With the game finally releasing this week as what could be the Wii U’s last big exclusive, (depending on if you want to believe that the next Zelda will be moved to the NX,) you would think that my hype would have reached its apex. It would have, until I played the Wondercon demo.

A lot is being said about the state of the game’s forced motion controls, which ask you to aim with the Wii U Game Pad’s gyro controls while steering with the left stick and pulling off maneuvers with the right. While I can definitely see why people would have trouble with this set up, which sounds like the gaming equivalent to patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time, I personally didn’t take long to adjust. What did become a problem however, is when the game switched to All-Range Mode, which is the term coined in Star Fox 64 for when the game switches from on rails dog fighting to being able to freely move in a 3D space. While I didn’t encounter too much of a problem while taking flight, this feature was something that I hoped would improve in previous demos, since Zero uses these sections as a chance to force first person cockpit view onto the Game Pad, while the TV shifts to a cinematic view that displays the entire battlefield, rather than focusing on what the player is doing. Once my time with the completed build ended though, I was beyond disappointed to learn that it got worse.

Star Fox Zero Landmaster 1

Wanting to experience the Landmaster for the first time, I tried out the desert stage, where more than just the control methods changed since the 64 days. Being forced to fly above obstacles while aiming with the game pad and keeping an eye on enemies through the big screen was confusing enough, but became close to second nature by the time the sequence was complete. Once the boss fight started and I had free range of motion however, and I had no idea how much more of a hindrance this would become. But when you take away the speed and mobility of the Arwing and plug in the awkward camera angles into the land stage, what should have been the climax of the stage ended up highlighting everything wrong with forcing your view into first person.

As the boss at the center of the stage bombarded me with smaller enemies and its own attacks while pulling me towards the center, I rarely had any clue as to what was going on. All I knew was my health was sinking, I was getting trounced by attacks, and I had no idea where any of it was coming from. By the time I turned the insanely slow tank around to take aim, I would ram into the boss for more damage because of its quick sand. Avoiding it would have been simple, except the cockpit view made it hard to tell how close I was to the middle. If you’re thinking the TV view will give you some semblance of an idea what was going on, think again! Because every time I looked up at it, the view was panned out with the main monster in the center, capturing every bit of the chaos so well that I had no idea where my tank was. Who thought this was a good idea!? To make it so you can’t see what you’re doing, and have the freedom of changing your view stripped from you for the sake of some stubborn vision of what the game should be?

Star Fox Zero Landmaster 2

Maybe all of this is for nothing. Maybe the final game will be better! But all I know is after crashing and burning, I’m finding myself far less excited about Fox McCloud’s long awaited return. Keep an eye out for our full review in the coming days and see if we have a change of heart.

Briefly: Can you believe that Star Fox Zero is already upon us? It seemed like just yesterday that the game was delayed from its original holiday 2015 launch window.

In any case, Nintendo is about to launch a hopefully awesome Star Fox game, and to celebrate this Wednesday they’ll debut a Star Fox animated short titles Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins.

The short will stream right here this Wednesday at 6PM Eastern. The short was produced in collaboration with Shigeru Miyamoto, and Production IG and WIT Studios, and based on the just-released 30 second teaser, it looks super cool.

Take a look at the teaser below, and be sure to let us know if you plan to pick up Star Fox Zero on April 22nd!

The Hyrule Warriors Legends panel last night at WonderCon was a blast!  I had originally imagined that most of the panel would be news that had already been revealed, but boy was I wrong!  They had lots of development insight on Linkle and Tetra’s character development, a character reveal (Marin), and also detailed a side story involving Linkle and Tingle that was eventually cut from the game.  There were also interesting nuggets in the Q&A section that followed.

I would like to retell the story that involved Linkle/Tingle because it was simply so hilarious–however, I did not acquire a full recording of the panel, so I’m retelling this roughly from memory.  It is possible that this article may be updated in the future to more accurately reflect what was told:

Linkle receives some news that Link is in trouble, and follows leads which bring her to a castle.  As it turns out, Ghirahim (from Skyward Sword) is using a sinister dance to bring Link under his control, and it seems that Linkle isn’t the only one that had received this news, as both Cia and Lana had known about this too.  Cia and Lana are already in the castle, and are both doing magical dances to counter Ghirahim’s spell to control Link.  When Linkle finally arrives in the room, she sees this strange scenario of all these characters dancing, and decides to join in too to help the cause.  Not long after that, they start hearing eerie laughter as they realize that they weren’t dancing for Link, but rather it was Tingle all along playing a joke on them.  Shortly afterward, Linkle wakes up realizing it was all one big nightmare.

IMG_3551

In the Q&A section of the panel, I asked the developers if they had ever thought it would be fun to develop highly unusual characters for the game, citing the Kikwi Elder from Skyward Sword as an example.  They had responded that saying the Kikwi Elder in particular was never considered, but among the staff that developed the game, they largely agreed that Groose was a name that came up time and again, as a character that would be fun for the world of Hyrule Warriors.  They also added as an extra note that Tingle almost didn’t make it into the game, because Aonuma wasn’t too hot about the idea.

Groose

Pretty exciting huh?  I’d have to say, if Groose makes it into Hyrule Warriors, I’ll be over the moon!  What do YOU think?

A new stage has been revealed for Pokken Tournament and it’s quite the doozy!  The level is called Magikarp Festival–you can now battle on a boat-like level in Pokken Tournament, with Magikarps flailing about the ship!  It’s going to be tough to concentrate on fighting with all of the funny business going on around the fighters.

Even so, this isn’t the strangest level I’ve seen in a fighting game designed by Bandai Namco.  In Tekken 6, there was a level that was nothing but yodeling music while you fought in the middle of a herd of sheep.  However, I did notice that this level seemed a bit familiar… this level may be a homage to a similar level in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, the Bountiful Sea.

With the recent news regarding a free Magikarp card promotional event at Target stores soon, this can’t be any coincidence.  We have been really happy with our Pokken Tournament experience thus far, and it’s shaping up to be a great fighter!  How do you feel about this unique level in Pokken?  Does it make you want to bounce with joy?

Source: My Nintendo News, featured image by Sev Cosplay

Gamers such as myself have been patiently waiting for the release of Pokken Tournament since it was first revealed in 2013. While Super Smash Bros. is great and all, the idea of a fighting game dedicated to Pokemon designed by the the team behind the Tekken series seemed like the greatest thing I never knew I wanted. Luckily for us, we didn’t have to wait until the March 11th release date to get our first taste of how our favorite monsters fare in the fighting arena, as we found ourselves at the Pokken Tournament preview event to give the game a spin. Whatever it was that I was expecting, that all went out the window when I picked up the Game Pad and played a couple of rounds, because it was unlike any fighter I’ve played to date.

Pokken Tournament Screen 2

More specifically, what makes Pokken Tournament so unique is its Shift Change mechanic. Fights start off in a 3D diagonal perspective reminiscent of the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm games where each fighter will have full range of motion within the circular arena. That’s when some of your favorite Pokemon like Charizard, Lucario, Machamp and Pikachu among others will vie for positioning by confusing opponents with their projectile, homing and quick attacks. However, when specific hits are landed either as a one off or in a combo, the perspective shifts to a 2D plane, changing the way the fight is approached with the change in conditions. Of course, hitting certain attacks in 2D will shift the battle back to 3D, so if you or your character is better in 3D, you’ll want to switch back as fast as possible.

Making matters more interesting are the assist characters that can jump in during a match. By choosing a predetermined pair before the fight, each round asks players to choose which one of the two they want to bring out as their partner. Some like Emolga and Frogadier are straight attackers, while Pokemon like Eevee will give stat boosts for an extra advantage in battle. In Pokken Tournament, it’s not just enough to fight well, because synergy with your support character will be the difference between two evenly matched combatants.

Pokken Tournament Screen 1

Managing your supports, laying in your standard attacks, knowing when to unleash your Mega Evolution, (and the super move that comes with it), and utilizing guard breaking throws are just some of what you’ll find yourself mastering in the retail version of the game, and that’s on top of the many counter mechanics I’ve yet to fully explore! Feeling much deeper than what you would expect from a Pokemon spinoff while being friendly enough to pick up and play without much trouble, I expect that fans new and old will love their time in the arena when Pokken Tournament is in our hands. Look out for our full review in the coming days, but one thing’s for sure from our short time with the game; it’s nothing like you’ve played before.

Another week brings another event course.

This Week Super Mario Maker is introducing the Statue Mario costume. Ever wanted to play as the statue that Mario turns into in Super Mario Bros. 3? Well now you can! Just beat the game’s event course and the costume will be yours for the taking. Check out a course playthrough from Gamexplain showing off the level. What’s your favorite costume in the game so far?

During today’s Nintendo Direct, Bill Trinen announced that two free updates are heading to Wii U’s popular paint-shooter, Splatoon. The first update, available March 8, focuses on re-balancing gear as well as updating the matchmaking system. A later update, called “Sheldon’s Picks” (named after the weapon’s seller), will come packed with new weapon combos for you to enjoy.

WE’RE GETTING A NEW PAPER MARIO!

Just announced in the Nintendo Direct is Paper Mario: Color Splash.

This time around Paper Mario and the gang head to a brand new far away island, but when they get there they find out it is losing its color!

Use color to bring life back to the island, and edit the world around you.

Paper Mario: Color Splash is set to release in 2016

We have a nice little Nintendo Direct going on right now over on Nintendo’s Twitch channel, and they started out the bat with some great Star Fox: Zero news.

The game will feature the classic branching path structure from the N64 and SNES releases. Miyamoto put off great emphasis that paths will really alter how the levels will play out.

They also announced that the Fox Amiibo will unlock the classic, SNES Arwing skin. It looks really cool, and I got chills seeing that old bird flying.

If you were ever worried that this game was going to be thin, then you’re in for a surprise. Miyamoto announced an additional game that will ship with the retail versions of Star Fox: Zero, Star Fox: Guard.

You take up the role of Slippy, protecting his Uncle’s (Grippy) mining operations on alien planets.

It is a unique twist on the Tower Defense genre, and it felt a lot like Sanctum. You will command 12 video cameras, and have to switch between them in order to defeat enemies.

Both Star Fox: Zero & Guard hit stores April 22nd, and can be purchased separately digitally.

SURPRISE!

Nintendo has just announced that they’ll be planning the first full length Nintendo Direct of 2016 for tomorrow at 2PM PST. The Direct will focus on 3DS and Wii U games launching through the summer (You gotta save something for E3.) Are you excited about this out of nowhere announcement? What are you hoping they announce?

Today’s featured course goes by a different name for something that seems familiar.

What am I talking about you ask? None other than Monty Mole Ruins (DK & Diddy). While the premise for this level sounds like something new, it actually resembles the level Millstone Mayhem from the Snes classic Donkey Kong Country. Everything from bonus rooms, to those weird Kremlings that used to chase you in the stone tires, this level is a loving tribute to the game’s legacy.

MMR 2While the level is pretty similar to its Snes version, there are also some other surprises and tributes to the beloved series. Going bananas to try out the level? Check out the code below! As always, have a great week, and keep playing and creating awesome levels!

For those of us California, this is the second major event being held in the same state, with a later event being the Pokemon Boutique held in JapanLA (starting 6PM).  February 27th has been announced to be “Pokémon Day” and it is sure to be a stacked day!  I’ll definitely be making my best effort to attend both!

Pokken Tournament is a tournament style 3D fighting game featuring Pokémon, and is being developed by Bandai Namco.  It is currently only available in arcades across Japan, but will be seeing a Wii U console release on March 18, 2016.

This week’s Super Mario Maker Course is pretty short, but fun.

Today we’ll be looking at the level Ike’s Cave Stroll by Umbra Alex. The premise for the level is simple enough. You play as Ike as you try and navigate your way through a very unfriendly cave filled with fire, dry bones, and other miscellaneous traps out to get you.  As said before, the level  is very short as you can probably finish the level on your first try, but that doesn’t stop it from being fun.

Think you can make it out in one piece? Try it out at the code below! Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to keep playing and creating awesome levels!
