By now, most Pokéfans have no doubt made their way to the Alola region in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. And the fun keeps on coming! GameStop is teaming up with Nintendo to gift trainers with a powerful Lycanroc (Midnight Form). From May 15 through June 5, you can pick up a code card at your local store and redeem it via the Mystery Gift option in the game’s main menu.

This wolfish Rock-type arrives at level 50 with “No Guard,” the ability that makes all moves used by both this Pokémon and its opponent always hit. It comes with the moves Stone Edge, Fire Fang, Sucker Punch, and Swords Dance. Its held item is the Life Orb, which increases the damage from moves by the Pokémon holding it by 30 percent. However, the Life Orb’s holder also loses 10 percent of its max HP each turn.

I would recommend heading to your local GameStop on May 15 or soon after, if you want to take advantage of this awesome promotion. Past distributions have seen code cards run out in some location way ahead of the end date. You can find your local GameStop through the site’s handy store locator.

Rolling into August, Arceus is the next Mythical Pokemon to be featured in the ongoing Pokemon 20 event. Available through codes exclusively available at GameStop, (following Mew and Darkrai before it), the apparent god of Pokemon can now be ours to control.

Introduced as the fourth and final Mythical Pokemon in the fourth generation of games consisting of Pokemon DiamondPearl and Platinum, Arceus is said to be the creator of the Pokemon world. Originally needing the Azure Flute to open up the Hall of Origin, which literally would literally open up a stairway to heaven from the Spear Pillar, we would encounter the mighty Pokemon of creation at level 80, the strongest wild Pokemon in the game’s history. At least, that was the plan, but the Azure Flute was never officially distributed, with Nintendo opting to just handing out Arceus through events instead. Using cheat devices is the only way to encounter the Pokemon as originally intended, which sounds completely worth it since it’s the only way most of us will ever get to encounter it in such an epic fashion.

Pokemon 20 Arceus Screen

As the only Normal type Mythical creature at the time of its release, Arceus has the unique Multitype ability to allow it to become any type its trainer wanted. By equipping it with an elemental plate, Arceus remains one of the game’s most versatile characters since it can literally cover any type weaknesses on any given team. Then again, keeping it as a Normal type would be worth it to retain your item slot for other strategies, but the fact that its signature move, Judgment, also changes type depending on the plate held, means handing it a Plate holds huge advantages for the Pokemon god.

From August 1-24, Arceus can be downloaded at level 100 with Judgment, Recover, Hyper Beam and Perish Song. As with the previous Mythical Pokemon, Arceus will also have his own card and pin set and special merchandise, giving us plenty to buy as we start the second half of the year.

Now that generation four is wrapped up, it’s on to Black and White! Which Pokemon are you looking forward to most as the countdown reaches its second half?

Pokemon Day is here! 20 years ago today, Nintendo and Game Freak released two games that would go on to become a worldwide phenomenon. To celebrate two decades of the redefining handheld games, Nintendo has set up a variety of events for Pokefans across the country to enjoy.

First, various GameStop stores are hosting a Pokken Tournament… tournament! As we reported earlier this week, select locations will be hosting a tournament and demo event for the upcoming fighter from the team behind Tekken. Considering that I’m writing this as I wait to play, expect a full preview later today!

While you’re there, or even if you can’t it, make sure to pick up your special 20th anniversary poster at all GameStop’s nationwide with any purchase. Featuring 20 years of Mythical Pokemon on one side, with the Pokemon 20 logo on the other, it’s a great giveaway for any Poke-Fan. Toys R’ Us on the other hand, will be distributing special foil cards to celebrate the Generations card game expansion, along with an exclusive binder available for purchase.

PokePoster

Though if you happen to be in New York, the Nintendo World Store will be hosting its own event, filled with activities and photo ops for those braving the cold and long lines. Los Angeles on the other hand, will welcome back the Pokemon Boutique at Japan LA, for those of us who need some themed clothing or $1000 ruby encrusted Pokeball necklaces!

If sunlight isn’t your thing, you can enjoy the festivities from the comfort of your own home via Twitch! Promising a massive event featuring Pokemon themed activities, discussions, and an animation marathon, the event will run from 10 AM PT, with the marathon ending at 6 PM on Sunday. If that gets old, you can pass the time with your Pokemon selfies in the Pokemon Photo Booth app, making sure your fandom never stops. Or… just keep it simple and download Red, Blue and Yellow, which are available now!

As you can tell, there’s no shortage of ways to welcome 20 years of Pokemon. How will you be celebrating? Let us know in the comments!

In what seems to be a never-ending stream of Pokémon news for the month of February, early access competitions for Pokken Tournament have been announced nationwide!  Initially, the only tournaments available were at the Pokémon Championship Series and EVO, but now various Gamestop stores across the country will be holding tournaments as well!

The winners of these Gamestop tournaments will advance to the Early Access Finals, which will be held at the Nintendo NY store on March 17th.  The winner of the Early Access Finals will then be invited to the National Finals in Ohio.  The competitions will also be divided up into age brackets, one for those born in 2001 or later, and one for those that are born in 2000 or earlier.

The tournaments will be taking place on February 27th, with registration beginning at 10am.  The full list of Gamestops holding competitions are as follows:

2201 Preston Road, Plano, TX
1841 Chamblee Tucker Road, Chamblee, GA
3972 Barranca Parkway, Irvine, CA
8115 S. John Young Parkway, Orlando, FL
6451 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, IL
242 Bellevue Square, Bellevue, WA
32 E. 14th St. – Union Square, New York, NY
3914 Rivermark Plaza, Santa Clara, CA

For those of us California, this is the second major event being held in the same state, with a later event being the Pokemon Boutique held in JapanLA (starting 6PM).  February 27th has been announced to be “Pokémon Day” and it is sure to be a stacked day!  I’ll definitely be making my best effort to attend both!

Pokken Tournament is a tournament style 3D fighting game featuring Pokémon, and is being developed by Bandai Namco.  It is currently only available in arcades across Japan, but will be seeing a Wii U console release on March 18, 2016.

For many years, GameStop was strictly video games and strategy guides but more recently, they expanded to include card games, fashion accessories and collectible toys. The chain has now leveled up to include designer toys, such as Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid figures and Kotobukiya’s ArtFX+ line (like those two Star Wars figures). Two designer toys that we think you’ll be interested in were listed for pre-order on GameStop’s online store, a limited edition Fox McCloud statue along with Nendoroid Majora’s Mask Link.

119557b

The Fox McCloud statue stands eight inches tall and is made of hand-painted resin. The figure is limited 5,000 pieces. It costs $79.99 and is scheduled to release on February 9, 2016.

118219b

The Nendoroid Majora’s Mask Link is approximately 10 centimeters tall. Like all figures in Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid series, it comes with a bunch of accessories to customize Link’s look (you can get a better idea from this blog post by Good Smile Company’s Kahotan). The figure costs $46.99 and ships from Gamestop on March 15, 2016.

Are you playing on purchasing either of these figures? What do you think of GameStop’s new direction?

Briefly: With Valve’s long awaited Steam Machines finally (finally) releasing to the masses this November, gamers everywhere have been wondering just how we’ll get our hands on the oft-delayed TV friendly hardware.

Well, you can stop wondering, as Valve has revealed that GameStop will be the exclusive retailer of Steam hardware come its launch on November 10th.

Yeah, we didn’t see that coming either.

Valve’s very own Steam service has been slowly putting nails in GameStop’s brick-and-mortar coffin for years, and with this announcement gamers that probably haven’t stepped foot into one of GameStop’s stores since Steam launched will be forced to if they want to pick up any of this gorgeous hardware.

Keep in mind that this exclusivity extends to Valve’s Steam Link console (for those of you that already have powerful gaming PC’s), and the gorgeous-but-how-will-it-feel Steam Controller.

Weird.

I’m certainly interested to see how these machines do once they’re available to the public. I love the idea of a powerful gaming PC that I can simply hook up to my television, but if the Machine’s don’t sell, I can’t see many AAA publisher’s jumping on board SteamOS.

In any case, are you planning to pick up a Steam Link or Steam Machine when they launch at GameStop, EB Games, and GAME on November 10th?

American’s are the brunt of a lot of jokes, mostly ones about our propensity for larger things. Larger cars. Larger soda. Larger women. So when Nintendo had NO plans for a US release of the New 3DS it became vogue to make fun of us and our New 3DS XL’s. WELL WHO’S LAUGHING NOW?!

Announced today at the Gamestop Managers Conference, which is apparently a thing, Nintendo is bringing the smaller 3DS console to US shores with a few fancy bundles.

New3DS_ACHHD_Final_Render

Bundle Includes:

New 3DS

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer

Two changeable faceplaces

1 Amiibo card.

The Animal Crossing New 3DS bundle hits store shelves September 25th for $219

The other new console we’re getting our hands on a special Hyrule Edition 3DS XL. No pictures have been released yet, but it will be gold with the Hyrule Crest on the front. Pick it up as a Gamestop exclusive on October 30th for $199.

It’s awesome to see Nintendo finally bringing the smaller console to the US shores. The interchangeable faceplates are strangely absent on the XL edition, a huge oversight in my mind.

Let us know what you think about the new bundles, are you excited for the smaller 3DS? You KNOW our correspondent El Chucho is going to be getting his preorders in today!

The next Mystery Gift Pokemon is headed to GameStop stores for a special distribution event!

From June 22nd to July 12th, participating locations will distribute codes that will unlock an especially powerful Dragonite, thanks to its hard to get attacks and abilities. Equipped with Dragon Dance, Outrage, Hurricane and Extremespeed and its hidden Multiscale ability, trainers accross the country will have instant access to a party member that would take potential hours and trading across consoles to obtain otherwise. However, keep in mind that the codes only work in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, so X and Y purists will have to miss out.

If this giveaway is anything like previous GameStop events, you might want to jump on this giveaway ASAP. Like Shiny Gengar, Herracross, Pinsir and Diancie before it, chances are that stores will burn through their supply quick. Don’t be forced to buy free codes on eBay!

Will you add this Dragonite to your team? What tweaks would you make? Or are you just going to abuse Dragon Dance’s attack and speed boosts before steamrolling your opponents? Let us know!

Amiibo hunters! It’s time to prep the tents and hover your mouse over the refresh button, because new figures are incoming!

Releasing on May 29th, the long since announced Wave 4 figures finally have a solid release date, with a few new surprises thrown in. In addition to the previously revealed Robin, Lucina, Charizard, Wario, Pac-Man and Ness, the latest wave will also round out the Pokemon roster, throwing in Greninja and Jigglypuff for good measure.

The bad news? Those last three are store exclusive, with Ness going to GameStop, Jigglypuff heading to Target, and Greninja getting the $1 privilege tax at Toys R Us. Their pre order schedule is as follows:

GameStop: Ness and the rest of wave 4 to go on pre-order at 2PM CST, (that’s Noon Pacific and 3PM Eastern.)

Toys R Us: Greninja and possibly the rest of wave 4 go up on 4/3/2015 with no time announced, so be at those stores or get your coffee ready for an all-night refresh binge.

Target and every other games retailer: Nothing announced yet, although the exclusive Jigglypuff went on sale for a whole four minutes before selling out.

And by the way, if you were expecting a break, Nintendo isn’t going to be so kind. In July, the Kid Icarus Uprising collection will be complete, adding Dark Pit and Palutena to the mix. Lastly, in September, the Mario and Zelda crew will all be accounted for, when Ganondorf, Dr. Mario and Bowser Jr. all get the Amiibo treatment alongside Zero Suit Samus and Olimar. This leaves out R.O.B., Duck Hunt, Mr. Game And Watch, and Falco Amiibo, but something tells me they might either be added to July’s bare wave, or in the case of Falco, might be added to September to match up with a potential Star Fox Wii U launch.

How many of you are already in line? Are you only getting a few, or all of them? We’re in too deep now, man!

New information has come to light in the never ending craze of Amiibo’s. Our friends over at Nintendo News have gotten a tip from a Gamestop insider, saying that the video game retailer is planning on artificially limiting the supply of the Shulk Amiibo. The email they received, from a source with mixed credibility is as follows.

Hello. You may remember me as the GameStop manager who first tipped you off about the November 21 release date for Smash Bros. I may have another insider story that I feel people should know about. As you likely know, GameStop will be exclusively selling the Shulk amiibo next year. From what I’ve heard, we will only be getting enough amiibo to exactly match the number of pre-orders—no more, no less. The idea is to keep the figure rare, increasing its market value and driving up demand. Then, several months later, we will receive a second shipment to sell as “used” for a marked-up price.

Please remove my name from the report—I could get fired for leaking this.

Cheers,

[Name withheld]

If this IS the case, then it’s no surprise, what with Gamestop and it’s record with Xenoblade.

I haven’t mainlined the Amiibo’s yet, though that may change when I get my Wii U this Friday. Our fearless leader and my fellow Geekscape Games pundits have all taken the first hit and are chasing that purple dragon. The metaphor will be complete if they ever release a Spyro Amiibo.

Don’t the Gamestop CEO’s have enough money?

Yesterday, Nintendo unveiled the third wave of Amiibo figures, including Sonic, Mega Man, and about half a dozen Nintendo favorites. One such characters was Shulk, the Monado wielding protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles. If you’re like me, you were really excited for the chance to put this sweet looking figure on your shelf when not importing it into Super Smash Bros.

There’s just one catch. Like the game that he originates from, Shulk’s Amiibo will be exclusive to GameStop, so if you REALLY need him, this is the only official retailer that you’ll be able to pick it up from. It sucks for people who try to avoid the store like the plague, but I guess we should be happy that we’re getting him at all. Either way, I think we can all agree that retailer exclusive content is a raw deal.

Aside from Smash, will Shulk have any functionality in the upcoming Xenoblade New 3DS port? Will placing his figure on the Wii U Game Pad add him to your Xenoblade Chronicles X party, while he runs around telling you his various levels of feeling it? We can only hope.

The third wave of Amiibos are set for a February release.

While millions of Smash Bros. watched with envy as Japanese 3DS owners stream video of the Smash Bros. for 3DS demo, Nintendo of America has announced added not one, not two, but three more limited edition 3DS XL systems to join the Persona Q-themed 3DS XL arriving later this year.

With a dozen Smash Bros. characters gracing the surface, the Smash Bros.-themed 3DS XL system (available in either red or blue) goes on sale Friday, September 19. Both versions have the exact same design, so it only comes down to color preference. The system will retail for $199.99 (Smash Bros. for 3DS sold separately).

i_41982

Additionally, Nintendo also announced yet another limited edition 3DS XL system–this one modeled after the Nintendo Entertainment System. Not only is does this version tout the classic grey, black, and red color palate, but just look at the packaging! No doubt collectors will snatch this baby up in a heartbeat. This will also retail for $199.99 and will go sale October 10.

Months have passed since our international brethren have received the elusive Mythical Pokemon. Now, it’s time for The States to get their chance.

Diancie, the first event exclusive Pokemon that was teased for the west months back, will be coming to Gamestop stores via a distribution event. From October 27th until November 16th, (one week shy of the launch of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire,) trainers can pick up their vouchers and find themselves one step closer to fully completing the Pokedex. In addition, trading it over to one of the upcoming remakes will unlock a Mega Stone to use Mega Diancie, adding prestige to a Pokemon that’s already in high demand.

With Diancie finally available, there won’t be much need for haggling for it online anymore. I for one, am relieved that we finally have the first event Pokemon coming to our shores. What events are you hoping make it stateside?

Make sure to add Diancie to your team when Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire launches on November 21st.

Nintendo and GameStop are teaming up again to bring Mario Kart 8 to the people two weeks before its release date. On the weekend of May 17th, select stores will have the game on display for anyone who wants to give the game a test drive with an exclusive demo version.

Coming exclusively to the Wii U, new and existing preorders will receive a Mario Kart 8 poster for attending. In addition, GameStop will be giving away prizes up to the release of the game with its #MarioKartMemories campaign, so those time where you got hit by a blue shell off of Rainbow Road right behind the finish line might be useful for more than just immense rage.

For further details, including entry rules for the #MarioKartMemories campaign and participating store locations for the Test Drive event, visit these links. For now, check out the game in motion and share your excitement with the world! Mario Kart 8 will release on May 30th.

Ubisoft have just released this trailer showing off some nice preorder perks for getting AC3 from GameStop. Look with me!

If you aren’t a fan of preorder bonuses then you may not like this trailer. What we get looks like a great temple designed for testing your climbing skills. Plus that crazy ass sword looks like it will tear up some soft supple British fairly well.

For more info on the preorder bonus and to actually preorder it check out the GameStop site HERE

AC3 ships October 30th on Xbox360 and PS3. For PC on November 20th.

It was announced today that the Six Flag Theme Parks will be teaming up with Capcom and Resident Evil 6 to give gamers a chance to have a unique park experience at all Six Flags across the US!

RE6 releases October 6th, so Six Flags will be calling October 6th “Resident Evil 6 Flags Night”, clever huh? So if you preorder (Starting August 30th) to purchase RE6 at GameStop you will be some pretty rad exclusive access to a Six Flags park, they include.

  • Admission discount for Six Flags Fright Fest (discount varies by market)
  • One free haunted attraction voucher
  • Exclusive ride time on certain Six Flags’ coasters

Any attendee that is 17 years or older will be able to get some exclusive hands on game time with the newest in the horror genre, and will be able to compete for and win Resident Evil 6 prizes!

In addition, Six Flags will host the Resident Evil 6: Fright Fest Getaway national sweepstakes, for the chance to win a fly-away VIP trip for two to any Six Flags US Theme Park to experience Fright Fest this Halloween season, including admission tickets, front line privileges, meal vouchers andResident Evil 6 merchandise.

David McKillips, senior vice president of corporate alliances for Six Flags said:

This unique promotion is truly one of the most creative and exciting programs Six Flags has developed with a partner around our Fright Fest event. The program fully demonstrates how our media networks can be tailored for a specific demographic, and how our partnership model can help raise awareness in our parks and drive sales with a retail partner; we’re thrilled to be partnering with Capcom and GameStop on the release of Resident Evil 6.

So if you were considering getting RE6 why don’t you do yourself a little favor, go preorder a copy at GameStop and get in on this rad Six Flags event! I just wish I had one in my state, you can expect me to be entering to win that free trip!

The life of a Pokemon trainer is tough. I mean, we’re constantly told that we gotta catch em all, but life can feel pretty empty once you’ve already done so. What’s a trainer to do to ease the pain? Overdose on Pokeblock? Take tons of Iron to block out the pain? Whore yourself around until you catch Pokerus from some filthy Spearow?

Well now your life will have purpose again, because there’s a new monster to catch!

Starting August 27th to October 6th, heading to Gamestop with your copy of Black or White in tow will allow you to download a new Water/Fighting type Pokemon. Following the theme of the Three Musketeers, Keldeo is the young apprentice of Terrakion, Cobalion and Virizion, even sharing their unique Justified ability. So it’s basically the fourth musketeer. You know, the one know one knows about because he wasn’t featured in the candy bar commercials.

You might want to hold onto it for when Black and White 2 is released as well, because transferring Keldeo to that game will unlock a hidden quest to teach him the group’s unique Sacred Sword attack, which transforms him into his hidden Resolute Form, boosting its special attack in the process.

I Have RESOLUTE!!!

Make sure to swoop Keldeo while you can! Knowing these events, once it’s gone, it’ll be gone for years. Or you could just Gameshark that mother, but you’re not a cheater. Right!?

The guys over at Kotaku have let loose the rumor dogs of war, saying that Gamestop will be selling Valve game passes in their brick and mortar stores.

The rumor is that after Gamestop buying the online distribution service, Impulse, and that not fairing them to well. They have joined up with Valve and will start selling what every underaged PC gamer has wanted for years. A Steam Gift Card service. No official word yet, but the rumor says May 15th they should start selling the cards.

What do you think? I am very happy to have this option available.
