Ubisoft have just released this trailer showing off some nice preorder perks for getting AC3 from GameStop. Look with me!

If you aren’t a fan of preorder bonuses then you may not like this trailer. What we get looks like a great temple designed for testing your climbing skills. Plus that crazy ass sword looks like it will tear up some soft supple British fairly well.

For more info on the preorder bonus and to actually preorder it check out the GameStop site HERE

AC3 ships October 30th on Xbox360 and PS3. For PC on November 20th.

Ever hear of Plants Vs. Zombies? It’s an insanely fun and crazily addicting tower-defense title from PopCap Games.

It first released a few years ago, and since has hit almost every device under the sun (iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Consoles, and even some televisions).

PopCap and the American Dental Association are running a pretty cool promo this halloween. Head to the dentist and you’ll get some cool PvZ trading cards, and head to http://www.stopzombiemouth.com/ to get a code for a free Mac/PC copy of the game (redeemable after October 30)!

The price won’t get any better, and the game is addicting as ever. Check out the trailer below, and head to the site for your free copy!

A recent trailer has surfaced for the rumored open world sanbox zombie game that would be out on XBLA. Turns out it’s called “State of Decay” and it looks pretty damn rad. Look with me.

The game puts you in the middle of a just happened zombie apocalypse and forces players to rebuild society. It basically is your time to test your zombie survival plans.

UndeadLabs created an interesting take on the zombie game. The world is an ever changing sandbox over run with monsters and you have to figure out how to survive. You find a proper base to fortify and plan your days. You can go look for weapons, food or build defenses. They say the world changes on your actions. Resources will deplete and activity will attract the horde.

You can even modify your base with things that will make survival better. Look at this little build of the construction mode in the game.

No word on the release date yet but it will be out on XBLA and PC. We will keep you up to date when more info gets out. This looks REALLY promising.

Years in the making, it looks like the highly anticipated Half-Life remake Black Mesa will actually be coming out, and soon!

Not long ago on the developer’s Twitter account, the following was posted

Today is a Red Letter Day. Black Mesa is coming! Check it out!

The page linked in the tweet has gone down, as has the entire Black Mesa site (likely due to a surge of traffic or possibly the renovations that they mention). The downed page contained the following text:

We’re freaking out over here! It is so exciting to share this news with you!

You can now Download the Black Mesa Soundtrack, courtesy of our very own Joel Nielsen, at the very generous price of whatever you want! Enjoy and share!

In the near future you’ll see our Website, Wiki and Forums all taken down temporarily for renovations.

On September 14th you will see the first release of Black Mesa! This will include our re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to Lambda Core. We believe this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible.

We are still working hard on Xen and BMDM, but instead of making you wait we are giving you Black Mesa as soon as it’s ready! We’re doing our best to help bring the immense vision of this project into reality, and we are very excited for what the future brings!

This is pretty great news for any fans of the Half-Life series. The then titled Black Mesa: Source was announced in October of 2004. The game is a free mod, and is a remake of Half-Life with all the power and graphical prowess of the Source engine.

Anyone else been waiting for this? I was 14 when they announced this, and now at 22 I’m finally going to get to play it!

UPDATE: The site is back online at www.blackmesasource.com. The main page features a countdown timer to the games release.

It looks The War Z, the highly anticipated MMO is finally coming together!

Developer Hammerpoint Interactive showed off some alpha gameplay at PAX today, and even at this stage the game looks pretty neat (if not familiar).

The game takes a similar approach to the popular ARMA II mod Day Z, in that it’s a survival MMO set in the midst of a zombie outbreak. Huge maps and tons of people, and even more zombies should mean that there are always scares to be had, and people to meet up with.

The War Z seems to have borrowed more from Left 4 Dead than Day Z however, as it takes more of a traditional shooter approach than the latter does. Even many of the interface elements appear pretty familiar.

I’ve only put a few hours into Day Z myself, but so far The War Z looks to be a much smoother experience with an easier to understand interface. Day Z in my opinion has way too much going on control wise, and I find myself having to constantly look into the menu for the correct button to press.

Check out the video below! More info on the game can be found here.

It feels like we have had a lot of dips in the gaming lull season. Usually, it’s a straight month of no releases before we get hit with the onslaught of games at the end of the year. Although this is one of the lull weeks, I am sure a couple of you out there missed some of the suggestions I have for this weekend.

Symphony – PC

A simple top-down shooter that uses your music collection for how the enemies are generated and act. I love the premise of Symphony in that an evil entity, which freaked me out the first time I saw those white eyes on a red background, is trying to come into our world by absorbing and corrupting our music. Every song in your music collection is a stage as well as an item you can unlock and use once you cleanse the song. It seems like the items repeat themselves a little but it helps in that you can add/change four weapons on your ship. Spreadshot is the best all-around for how much ground it covers and the sub-woofer is great to use with songs that have a lot of bass in them. It becomes a pain to remember what songs you’ve already played through if you have a huge collection since you have to go back to that specific song to upgrade the item that was unlocked from it. Symphony is great for music lovers that want more of an interactive experience when blasting their favorite tunes.

Unmechanical – PC

Cute little puzzle adventure game that has you in control of robotic contraption with a propeller on its head to help it stay afloat. Unmechanical ends up being shorter than I wished it was, but the puzzles are engaging and the art style is charming and really damn good looking. This is the sort of game my puzzle-loving heart wants to see more of.

Dust 514 Beta – PS3

I haven’t kept up on Dust 514 as much as I probably should. All I really know is that there is cross-play between Eve Online and Dust 514. I guess I need to read up on this a lot more, huh? Anyway, Playstation Plus members get access to the closed beta of this free-to-play multiplayer FPS game until September 4th. Be prepared to wade through A LOT of downloads though. It might be a good idea to go make some coffee and a bagel while you sit and stare at all the progression meters. I had some issues with staying connected to the servers but managed to get some playtime in and I like what see so far. If you’re not a Playstation Plus member, you will have to wait your turn for Dust 514 to have an open beta period.

We all know how it ends, how the Autobots and Decepticons came to our planet. Differences in the origin stories between the plethora of media still never really showed what actually happened, in detail, in the final hours of Cybertron. With a great job on War for Cybertron and an unfortunate trip into movie tie-in land with Dark of the Moon, High Moon Studios is back to show us all just how the Fall of Cybertron went down.

Clearly, some of the ideas from the movie tie-in game, Dark of the Moon, rubbed off in the early talks of the development process of Fall of Cybertron. Very cinematic opening to the game that doubles as a tutorial level is a great way to set the tone of things to come as well as getting gamers acclimated with the general controls. Though if you played War for Cybertron, you will instantly feel at home with the controls since they’re mostly the same.

As soon as the tutorial level ends, we are whisked away to 6 days prior to the events that just occurred. Instantly you can tell that the level designs are more open and spacious. The claustrophobic feeling of War for Cybertron is gone and replacing that feeling is now a feeling of size. Seeing the action going on in the horizon as you make your way through the battle field is great to look at. Very little pop-in textures that are known to happen using the Unreal engine when installed but it consistently happens when running off the game disc. Having a more diverse use of colors in the environment as well as on the Transformers themselves makes everything feel more alive than they was in War for Cybertron

Speaking of alive, the Transformers seem to have more humanity in their character traits. Throughout the whole game, I never felt like I was controlling mindless automatons. Instead, I was leading brave soldiers into a battle for their survival against a mad man hell bent on destroying everything and everyone in his path. It’s too bad that most of the voices are done by Nolan North, Steve Blum and Troy Baker. It felt like a contest of who could have his voice used the most in each character throughout the game. It really started to grate on my nerves near the end.

High Moon Studios decided give gamers a wider selection of Autobots and Decepticons to use in the campaign.  Co-op had to be removed in order to pull this off, but most of us won’t miss it in the slightest since there are plenty of other ways to get in on some metal on metal action with the multiplayer and wave-based survival modes. The unique levels that catered to each Transformers’ special ability was a nice way to make each character have enough difference that things didn’t become too repetitive. Optimus Prime controlling Metroplex saddened me in a big way though. I wanted more control over the city-sized machine instead of painting the target with Optimus Prime and having Metroplex automatically do his A.I. scripted business. What could have been a better idea would be having Optimus riding on the shoulder of Metroplex controlling his every move. Controlling such a massive metal beast should be more of a jaw-dropping experience, not a special ability.

Cliffjumper’s stealth missions were a big surprise to me in how much fun I had since I am not a fan of how most games implement stealth. Simple in design, I couldn’t help but shout with glee when stomping the hell out of those Decepticon foot soldiers coming out of stealth. For all the hype that was built up around it, playing the Grimlock level was frustrating. From the slow movement to the attack moves feeling cumbersome and missing the mark a lot, I couldn’t wait for me to be done controlling him. At least High Moon Studios got it right with Bruticus, the final form when all five Combaticons merge together. I felt like such a menace to the Autobots. Using my helicopter blades as a shield then slamming my fist down to send a shockwave that destroyed everything within a radius of the blast was a great feeling. That’s the way I wanted Grimlock to play instead of being regulated to using a sword and shield like some poor man’s hack ‘n’ slash game.

It felt like the best parts of Fall of Cybertron were too short and the most frustrating parts were too long. I understand playing as Cliffjumper that he is fragile and is made to move consistently but Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons, although Starscream does take that role temporarily. He should be almost unstoppable yet there is a section of the game that makes you feel powerless with Megatron. That should never, ever happen when playing someone as powerful as Megatron. When I have to restart more than three times in that section of doom, it made Megatron fell more like a Megachump.

The climatic finish to the campaign was well paced and executed. Switching back and forth quickly during the final battle aboard the ‘Ark’ made me feel like this was a life or death battle. Throwing the Autobot/Decepticon symbol on the corner of the screen every time you switched sides was a nostalgic touch to those of us who watch the original cartoon. The choice you have to make in the final scene seems wasted since the outcome is the same. It would have been better to continue the swapping of sides instead of forcing players to make a choice that doesn’t mean much.

Once you devour the six hour campaign, you can look towards multiplayer and the wave-based survival mode, Escalation, to continue the robo wars. The biggest thing that has been added is customization of your own Transformer. Of course, you have to use set parts but at least it feels like when I make my Transformer, it stands out enough to make me feel proud of my new metallic friend.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a great tale of what actually happened in the final days of Cybertron. Saddled with some poor frame rates during the heavy action scenes, pacing issues with some of the levels, and some audio sync issues with the PS3 version of the game, High Moon Studios managed to still engage me enough to enjoy my time with Fall of Cybertron. Let’s hope that we see a lot more in the following Transformer games that don’t just tweak the formula, they reinvent it.

This trailer just came across my desk. It is the introduction trailer for an upcoming indie game called Miasmata, from a small company called IonFx.

This game is a first person survival game. Think Minecraft but with a tad more looks. Check it out with me below.

No other info has been released yet.

Welp. This is it. The end of Cybertron as we know it. At least we get a proper send-off from Peter Cullen in this launch trailer for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is out now for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

With the insane amount of info pouring out of Gamescom combined with three really big games released this week –one of them being Sleeping Dogs which I reviewed, You might not have time for anything this weekend. For those few that have all the time in the world or power through their new games too fast, here are some things you should look at this weekend.

Iron Brigade – PC, XBLA

I can be one of those people who said, “I played this when it was called Trenched“, but that wouldn’t benefit me other than showing that I am a douche. One of the few Tower Defense style games that I really love playing, Iron Brigade comes to the PC with the Rise of the Martian Bear DLC free that console players had to pay for. It’s not as fun protecting your base alone so grab a few of your friends and fire up those mobile trenches for some Monovision stomping fun.

Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack – PC, PS Vita

Everyone that was smart enough to purchase a PS Vita already experienced the wonderful Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. Using the touch screen controls mixed with some traditional 2-D platforming as a blob makes its way to the PC as well, without the touch controls of course. Getting Steam achievements, cloud saves or new mini-games might not be enough for PS Vita owners double dip but we can at least show the naysayers what a great puzzle-platformer they’ve been missing out on all this time.

Hero Academy – iOS, PC

Hero Academy is a great turn-based, tactics style game that feels so much like chess that it brings me back to my high school days of 5th period study hall. Trying different strategies for your turn in the match before submitting it to your opponent is perfect for when I am in the line at the bank or at the grocery store. Robot Entertainment decide that we all need this kind of distraction in our lives while on the PC. Bringing Hero Academy to Steam, you will see everything that is in the iOS version. You even get the Team Fortress 2 team on your iOS version if you buy the Steam version of Hero Academy. If going through emails in-between writing and playing game for review were’t a distraction enough, with Hero Academy running minimized until it is my turn against someone that could be on their iOS device or Steam, I don’t think I will ever get anything done at all!

The guys over at Teyarch are really taking advantage of the GamesCom conference. They have just put up their ENTIRE live steam from day one of Black Ops 2 multiplayer coverage at GamesCom! So watch with me and take a look at what to expect from BLOPS 2 Multiplayer!

SKIP TO 15 MINUTES IN TO PASS THE COMMERCIALS!

Black Ops 2 ships November 13th

HEY! Remember me? Well I remember you! With the announcement of Capcom’s newest title only a few hours old, we get a little gameplay demo AND some screenshots! Take a peak below!

Holy shit that was…heavy. Fucking heavy. Looks like gameplay centers around messing with people’s memories in order for them to do your bidding. Very interesting. While you ponder that, take a look at these tasty screenshots!

This looks like it is going to be a real Juggernaut and EVERYONE SHOULD KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR IT COME MAY 2013!

This years GamesCom is turning out to be more fun than E3! So, if Isaac is realizing that people keep dying around him, why doesn’t he just friggin off himself?! Wouldn’t that be funny if this is how the game ends? You kill yourself…hmmm… ANYWAY take a gander at this new trailer for Dead Space 3!

Dead Space 3 hits shelves February 5th, 2013!

More great news from GamesCom. EA and Crytek have announced their new mulitplayer mode for their upcoming release, Crysis 3. “Hunter Mode” lets players actually be the predator, like the one who hunted Arnold, up against 14  CELL soldiers. Take a peak at the release trailer below.

Now aside from the slightly annoying robotic voice narrating every kill, this looks like it could be really, really fun. From what I can gather, the hunters only have bows and melee kills at their arsenal, while the CELL soldiers have numbers and gadgets on their side. “Hunter Mode” is looking to be a nice selling point for Crysis 3.

Crysis 3 is slated to be released sometime in 2013 on Xbox, PS3 and PC.

Capcom has just put out a trailer for their new game Remember Me. Announced earlier today at the GamesCom conference, a trailer has JUST hit the net. Take a look here and find out why I am so excited!!!

Jumping Jesus this looks SO GOOD! The first impression I get, is Blade Runner meets Ghost in The Shell, with a little bit of Total Recall added in. The world looks fantastic and the story is a hard sci-fi looking narrative that is right up my alley. From the press release

Capcom and Dontnod entertainment are proud to announce Remember Me, a brand new action adventure title for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Neo-Paris, 2084. Take on the role of Nilin, a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people’s minds and steal or even alter their memories. Arrested, and with her memory wiped clean Nilin must now set out on a mission to rediscover her identity.

This REEKS of Ghost in The Shell, come on Neo-Paris?

The game is slated to be released in May of 2013.

Today, we got ourselves a fresh new gameplay trailer for the upcoming third person shooter in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars 1313! Take a look here!

Now, let me reiterate for you that was all gameplay. They have tweaked the Unreal 3 engine to a point that cutscenes and gameplay will blend perfectly. The best part about this trailer is the last bit, we get a nice skybox (if you can call it that) of Level 1313. No release date has been given yet.

The interesting take on the MMO, Heroes & Generals, just hit beta. The devs released their third video log which comes with the announcement that 8000 keys will be sent out and to have everyone come and sign up to stress test the game. Take a look at the video log below.

Heroes & Generals is looking better and better everytime I hear about it. If you ever played Planetside then you have an idea how this game plays out. The interesting twist, is that players can take up the role of General and play a different role, moving units around and altering the battlefield. So head on over to the official website and sign up for a beta key, and while you’re at it, gander at the announce trailer too!

God, September 21st cannot get here soon enough. The long awaited sequel to one of my all time favorite games, Borderlands 2, hits store shelves. Today we get another little tease as with the “Come and Get Me” trailer.

It’s great to see all the fourth-wall-breaking humor is still there. Oh, and all those guns.

Switching what seems a decent amount of identities since its conception –from Black Lotus to True Crime: Hong Kong, Sleeping Dogs is what Square Enix is calling this open world action game set in Hong Kong. Whatever Square Enix saw in this title that was worth saving from being shelved, all of us should thank them for picking up the pieces Activision left behind.

Sleeping Dogs does its best to bring the Hong Kong cinema feel to open world gaming. What we get is a story of an undercover agent Wei Shen teetering on the edge, in-house fighting with the Sun On Yee Triads –which is based of the real Triad gang Sun Yee On— and a lot of double crosses. For the most part, United Front Games nails the story in making it feel like most Hong Kong action movies. There are some slight pacing issues in the middle of the game that made me want to just move on with things, but the hooks were in me so deep that I looked past the slow parts. How it all ends also leaves a little more to be desired. Maybe that is my biggest gripe with it all. Sleeping Dogs could have pushed the envelope more but seemed to err on the safe side.

The story was able to shine in Sleeping Dogs due in part to the great cast of voice actors. Just look at this stellar cast:

Everyone nailed their lines and since it seems everyone did their lines in the studio together, there weren’t any long, awkward pauses between characters in the game. Edison Chen seems to channel his inner Bobcat Goldthwait at times. Could you picture Jackie’s character modeled and voiced by Bobcat? Maybe Police Academy 8 will be set in Hong Kong? All I could see when Uncle Po was on screen was James Hong as Lo Pan in Big Trouble in Little China. “They have returned. And this time they are not alone. Egg Shen is with them. Little bastard sorcerer has brought them through the Bog of the Dead Trees.” See? He was foreshadowing meeting Wei Shen in Sleeping Dogs!

What should have been an amazing thing fizzled with Emma Stone’s character. It’s not that she didn’t do a good job, cause she really did. It’s the fact that love interests were whittled down to a two-bit part with the only thing coming out of it being the special bonus to finding items on your mini-map –health statues, lock boxes, security cameras, etc. I would have liked to have seen the ladies play a bigger role in the story of Sleeping Dogs. Having them be something an enemy can use against Wei would give have given the story a more emotional sting to it.

The action in the game is great. Utilizing the school of combat mechanics from Rocksteady’s handbook, dispatching tough guys trying to stomp a mudhole in you is a lot of fun. Although you can sit back and just mash the counter button when enemies turn red, it will be incredibly boring. Instead, the more you treat this like a martial arts movie scene, the more fun you will get out of the combat. There’s enough moves that you will acquire throughout your Hong Kong adventures that it won’t feel that repetitive. You could always use a table saw to slice someone’s face. Or, you could drop their body on some swordfish heads. Death by swordfish, such a terrible way to perish.

Guns are rarely used in Sleeping Dogs, which I love a lot. The few times guns come into play, the controls are a little on the loose side. Thanks to the generous auto-aim, it’s not much of an issue. Sitting behind cover will get you killed so your best option is to slide over cover and enter slo-mo mode, picking off everyone around you with ease. The shootouts that happen during the vehicle chase scenes are a lot of fun but I can see where shooting the tires out of a car for the 15th time can get monotonous. Still, having everything go into slo-mo while leaning out the driver side window making a car flip over from blowing the tires out was a joy for me to do. Boat chases weren’t as fun but that’s because I wanted the boats to flip 20 feet in the air like the cars. I know, how selfish of me.

The promise of quick transitions from combat to chase didn’t quite translate well from paper to video game. Sure, going from a shoot-out in a warehouse to racing down a highway in one mission worked, but when Wei Shen spends 8 seconds too long playing with his crotch rocket, I get a prompt telling me not to lose the person I’m chasing before I even get the damn bike out of park. The animation time of Wei starting up a bike could have been cut down to 3 seconds to make it feel more like an action-packed scene instead of Wei revving the engine trying to look cool for absolutely no one.

Chasing people on foot was great. Free running, sliding over tables, running up walls made it really feel like a good foot chase scene. You’ll still get some issues with the person of interest you’re chasing slowing down enough for you to catch back up if you screw up a button prompt to vault over a table faster. This is still a video game, after all. Wouldn’t be any fun if you had to start over at the very generous checkpoints every time you ran into a wall or jumped up the wrong railing. Vehicle chases are a little more frustrating since not only is it a pain to drive a car in Sleeping Dogs, the camera can also gets away from you since it’s really sensitive. If you can help it, use a bike. They were much easier for me to control.

Now, not having access to the console version of Sleeping Dogs, I can’t say if the PC version is better. I can say that it looks amazing to the eyes, if your PC can handle it. My specs for the system used to play Sleeping Dogs with everything set to medium were:

AMD Phenom II X4 925 2.8GHz

8GB of RAM

ATI 5770 Video Card

Even with some of the assets in the world being flat jpeg images, when using the HD texture pack option, Hong Kong looks sexy to the eyes. You spend most of the time playing at night even though there is a day/night cycle, at least to me. It just seemed like most of the time it was either night time, day time with a cloudy overcast and raining, or night time with rain. Everything looked really good and made me feel like this is what Hong Kong would look like having never stepped foot there myself. Neon lights, street vendors yelling at me to buy cheap suits or food and the random people just chatting about whatever was on their A.I. programmed minds. I found myself driving around the massive areas you can access for at least an hour just to take in all the beauty. If I could only remember to drive on the left side of the road, I wouldn’t have flown 20 feet off my bike every 10 minutes.

For all the side missions you are given in Sleeping Dogs, I never felt implored to go and do them. Racing cars, collecting money from deadbeats, helping random strangers with their issues and hacking security cameras to bust dealers from the comfort of your apartment never felt engaging enough for me to do more than a handful of each.

Unless you want more money or ‘Face XP’ to get access to more choices in the clothes you can wear or the cars you can drive, the benefits you get from doing these side missions don’t outweigh going straight through the story missions. The bonuses and upgrades you can pick from the skill trees you get just by going through the motions of the story is more than enough to make it through to the end. At least you can mop all the unfinished business when you complete the game.

Sleeping Dogs is a open world game that will stand in the limelight with such notables as GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption as an amazing accomplishment. Over the top action, good story, amazing voice work, and the immersive world make this a surprise hit of 2012 and a serious contender for Game of the Year.

The mysterious to-me game, Sleeping Dogs, got it’s launch trailer today. Take a gander with your eye holes below.

Despite all the content floating around out there, it was still hard for me to get a major read on how this game will turn out. This trailer seemingly filled that void. It has a major Asian mob movie feeling (DUUUUH). If you have ever seen City of Violence then you got an idea of what I’m getting at. The gameplay looks like it will please all the True Crime fans out there. I’m not saying this is a day one purchase but definitely keep it in your sights.

Grab your favorite orc-slaying sword and a friend — you’ve got some hideous monsters to exterminate. Orcs Must Die 2 is the follow-up to Robot Entertainment’s 2011 tower defense hit that combined real-time combat elements with the best of strategic trap planning. This time, the focus is on co-op action, where you and a buddy must team up to eradicate the endless stream of orcs pouring in from specific spawn points. Thinking you’re going to guard one area while your buddy takes the other? Wrong! You may be able to fight through half the game with this tactic, barely hanging on by a thread, but when various types of orcs begin spawning (particularly earth golems and those damnable flying enemies) you’ll need a different game plan.

You’ll need traps, and a whole lot of them. Spike, steam, acid, and launchpad traps are all meant to slow down orcs that climb up from the depths. Killing off the expendable baddies nets you in-game currency that may be spent on additional traps or troops such as dwarves with bombs or archers. Place them about the battlefield in a bid to help thin the often overwhelming crowds.

Artifacts and relics may be purchased with skulls earned after each area to keep you on top of your game. Though the male player is given a close-range weapon and the female player has a long-range spellcasting ability with the secondary chance to charm enemies (a useful ability, if fluffy) you may upgrade to a crossbow, a lightning ring, or even some admittedly awesome greaves, all of which you can easily switch between on the fly in the heat of the moment.

But don’t expect a cakewalk. Orcs Must Die 2 is a difficult affair. It’s easy to get lost while you’re scrambling to keep scragglers from escaping and blindly slicing through the crowds. It’s also a bit on the repetitive side, especially if you’ve been playing for a few hours or so. But when you’re on crowd control, summoning thunderstorms, and stationing dwarves all around the play field in the hopes that even four or five orcs are obliterated before things get even more hairy, you know you’ve hit the sweet spot. Skip the single-player jazz and go straight to co-op, if you’ve got some friends around. This is a celebration of orcish bloodshed that’s best experienced with comrades.

Man, it’s pretty dead out there in gaming releases this week. Luckily, I found some gems that you should take a look at.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Demo – Xbox 360, PS3

Activision decided to give us a little taste of High Moon Studios’ latest take on the ‘robots in disguise’. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron demo will let players check out the first mission in single-player mode as Bumblebee. We also get to take control of Vortex, flying around destroying whatever is in our path in the non-linear level. If you just want to check out the multiplayer and the new customizations, Team Deathmatch and Conquest modes are in here for you as well. Gives you plenty of time to sharpen your skills when Transformers: Fall of Cybertron releases August 21st.

Orcs Must Die 2 – PC

I’ve been playing a little of the sequel to Robot Entertainment’s 2011 hit Orcs Must Die and so far, it’s more of the same great tower defense style that I fell in love with in the first game. This time around you have co-op so of course the levels are more intricate to accommodate two players on the field. Even without a buddy to play with, Orcs Must Die 2 is still a lot of fun. Our review should be up soon if you want to hear more about it but really, you should just go and buy it on Steam and play with me. I could use some co-op buddies to smash some Orcs’ faces in.

I know it’s only two suggestions in this week’s edition but it is sparse out there right now! I’m sure next week will bring us more goodies than I can fit in this article.

Long in the works but new to me, JC2-mp is a mod that grants players the ability to play the over-the-top, very fun and popular open world game, Just Cause 2, WITH OTHERS! Check out the action below!

Holy shit that looks crazy fun! I’m going to keep this in my sights. I cannot wait to see what comes of this. I’m going to sign up right now and try to get a shot at playing!

The gaming community has been waiting desperately for the Dawnguard expansion of Skyrim to hit PC and PS3 for a long time now. Well, GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! It has just hit the STEAM market place! So if you own Skyrim, head on over to the DAWNGUARD page and buy up this deliciously dark expansion. And if you’ve been living under a rock in FarmVille and have no idea what any of this means, take a gander at the announcement trailer below.

Having been released in 2009 in Germany and late 2011 in the UK, King Art’s point and click adventure The Book of Unwritten Tales finally comes to the U.S. and the rest of the world thanks to digital distribution. Does this 3 year old adventure deserve your attention? For the most part, yes.

I was surprised that The Book Of Unwritten Tales barely plays like a classic point and click adventure. It felt more like I was playing an interactive Nickelodeon cartoon that had puzzles easily solved by the many things you can interactive with in the environment. Combine that with the odd modern pop culture reference sprinkled throughout the fantasy themed story, I was charmed into the world King Art crafted. Although I love a challenge, the lack thereof was offset by the wonderful environments explored and the whimsical story.

Even on low settings, my 13 inch Macbook Pro, the game looked beautiful. The art design, layout of the menus and the in-game cutscenes were fantastic. It seems that a lot of time went into the art in The Book of Unwritten Tales. From the beginning of the game flying on a dragon to the depths of the dungeon in the Tower of Evil, you will find it hard to call King Art’s adventure game anything but a visual treat for your eye holes.

Voice acting was spot on. It never felt like they were going over the top, which seems easy to do with the given dialogue for the actors in The Book Of Unwritten Tales. The dialogue gave the voice actors enough rope to have a little fun yet not hang themselves by being too goofy. There are spots where the story falls flat but those little bumps in the road are easily overlooked.

With so many choices in point and click adventure games, The Book Of Unwritten Tales might get lost in the shuffle, which would be a shame for adventure game fans. Still, with a story that is serviceable, art design that is easy on the eyes even at the lowest settings and pleasant voice acting, the simplistic nature of the puzzles might just be the break your brain needs in-between other tantalizing adventures.

Sorry to all about missing last week. I had a family emergency that prevented me doing any kind of writing all weekend. With the recommendations this week, I wish I had some of these when I had no access to any gaming devices but my iPhone.

Spy Vs. Spy – iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

Ahh, the good old days of playing Spy Vs. Spy on my Commodore 64. I had more fun trying to find all the different ways to set traps for my opponent than I did looking for the items I needed to escape. Thankfully, Robots and Pencils put a “retro” mode in the iOS version so people old as I can relive those fun times in front of their C64’s. There is also a slew of new features and modes as well as multiplayer so you can grief your Game Center friends. Get the mobile reboot of Spy Vs. Spy on iTunes for $1.99 here

Party Wave – iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

While it’s no Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer, the latest game from Mistwalker can hold its own with the rest of the surfing games. A little off the beaten path for the creator of the beloved Final Fantasy series, Hironobu Sakaguchi’s love for surfing translates into a fun, arcade-like experience on the go. Put on some sunscreen, wax your board and head on over to the iTunes store to pick up Party Wave for $1.99

Valve’s new add-on to the very popular game Left 4 Dead 2 has been delayed <once again> for Xbox 360. The DLC, Cold Stream has been promised for more than a year for Xbox 360 players. The blog for the game posted that the new content was releasing July 24th (about two weeks ago). The DLC will also include four other imports from the first Left 4 Dead. They are, Blood Harvest, Crash Course, Dead Air, and Death Toll

“We are working with MS on a release schedule,” Valve wrote on their official Left 4 Dead Developer Twitter feed. “We don’t have an ETA yet but we hope to have it out soon. It will be 560 [Microsoft Points, or $7]… We have no news on an [ETA] yet.”

I actually rushed home today and had my night planned around playing it. Guess if I had my choice I’d take the bat upside Valve’s head for the delay. Better yet, the chainsaw!

The PC version is available now on Steam for free.
