Have you ever wanted to design a custom control without having to pay large amounts of cash for custom mods or shipping your controller to someone you don’t know? Microsoft is counting on the chance that you do, because the company announced the Xbox Design Lab during their E3 press conference, where you can custom order your own Xbox One controller.

Retailing at $80 for a custom controller or $90 to have your GamerTag engraved onto the front, the service boasts over 8 million possible styles to use when making your new control your own. Based on the new controllers launching with the Xbox One S, these creations will also include better range, bluetooth connectivity and back grips for that extra comfort. Now, whether or not paying extra for your own controller when standard versions cost about $60 is up to you, but personally, I would kill for a bad ass controller with my tag on it. That’s InuJoshua by the way.

Any orders placed by the end of August will start shipping in September, but you can prep your order in advance here. Are you planning on playing your games in style, or is the standard controller good enough for you? Share your creative ideas with us in the comments, and make sure to check back in with us as more news comes out of E3.

E3 2016 is coming out the gates with a huge bang. The Micrsoft Presser today has certainly shown improvements over last years lack luster event.

The most interesting thing to come out of today’s event is not the Xbox One Slim, but the announcement of Project Scorpio.

Scorpio is Microsoft’s version of the model refresh from Sony, Playstation 4.5/Project Neo.

Phil Spencer detailed the announcement, stating that Scorpio will bring true 4K graphics to the home market, with “6 Teraflops of power”. Now, the teraflop is an interesting way gauging the power of the new Xbox. Teraflops don’t always equal faster though. A Teraflop is the ability for a system to perform a trillion floating point operations a second. TL;DR more FLOPS, means more math can be done at once which usually equates to better graphic rendering, since all those shiny polygons are just maths. No word as to the actual CLOCK SPEED or the RAM, which should actually make for a better idea of performance. They probably don’t have a final spec’d out device ready. This upgrade will bring HD VR support as well.

Project Scorpio will also allow gamers to play the same games across all platforms, Xbox One, Windows 10 and Project Scorpio. Cross-platform play is also in the works.

We can expect to see more info at next year’s E3 as Microsoft isn’t planning on releasing Project Scorpio until 2017.

Dampening the surprise a little bit thanks to a previous announcement, most of us knew Halo Wars 2 was on its way. What we didn’t know was that we would get a chance to play it a lot sooner than we thought.

Starting today through June 20, Xbox One gamers will be able to participate in a Halo Wars 2 beta, giving them limited access to the game’s core features about eight months prior to its February 21 release date. The team at 343 Industries did a great job of hooking us right before the big announcement, since the teaser trailer, (which can be viewed below,) did a great job of introducing its new characters while setting the stage for such a massive conflict.

For those who are unfamiliar, Halo Wars was an attempt to bring Real Time Strategy games that have been popularized on the PC to consoles, featuring the popular characters and units from the main Halo franchise. Receiving a certain level of acclaim in its own right, it wasn’t enough to keep Ensemble Studios, the talented team behind the popular Age of Empires franchise, from being shut down. Because of this, many thought we would never see a Halo Wars sequel until 343 and Creative Assembly took the reigns.

After what we’ve seen so far, let’s just say we’re happy that this revival is happening. Eventual Xbox Play Anywhere support will allow cross play and cross save support between console and Windows 10, allowing us to keep the fight alive no matter where we are. What say you, gamer? What are your thoughts on Halo Wars 2, and will you be online this week throughout the game’s beta period? Sound off below!

During Microsoft’s E3 press conference, the company announced that Forza Horizon 3, the third game in the open world arcade style spinoff of the Xbox’s premiere racing simulator, will be releasing on September 27. With such a quick turnaround between sequels, one would assume that the next game would have minimal improvements as it was rushed out the gate. After watching the trailer, we came away feeling like that’s far from the case.

As my favorite racing game in years, Forza Horizon 2 set a high bar for modern racing games, with a level of exploration and creativity that’s rarely seen in the genre. The third game looks to take it to even greater heights, taking place in a city with a variety of terrains. Of course, more terrains means more vehicles, which is why offroad vehicles and buggies will make their debut as racers zigzag through forests and deserts for racing supremacy. If you want to share the road with your friends, Horizon 3 will also allow four player drop in drop out co-op, which will be cross compatible between Xbox One and Windows 10. Now you have no excuse to take on the streets alone.

But talking about it isn’t enough, because Horizon 3 needs to be seen to fully appreciate how gorgeous it looks. Does this look like something you’re willing to pick up come September? Share your thoughts with us below, and keep checking back for all of the news coming out of Microsoft’s conference.

It’s getting harder and harder to keep a secret these days.

Leaked pictures posted on Neogaf show off the rumored Xbox One Slim model a day before Microsoft was likely to reveal it at their E3 press conference. Set to come with a 2 TB hard drive, a 40% smaller frame, 4K video support, and the option to stand it vertically, the new white model seems like it would be a good entry point for someone who has yet to pick up the console.

E3 2016 Slim Xbox One 1

More specific details, such as the price, release date, and any other expanded features have yet to surface. Of course, we expect all to be revealed at Microsoft’s actual press conference, and we’ll be sure to update the story with any new information as it becomes available.

Between the system’s growing backwards compatibility list, a ton of new exclusives on the horizon, and strong third party support to keep us playing, now might be as good of a time as any to pick up some Microsoft’s new hardware. With the PS4 Neo hitting shelves as well and Nintendo’s NX releasing early next year however, the competition looks like it will only get tougher. Based on what we know, does the Xbox One Slim sound like something you’re considering picking up?

Briefly: E3 is finally almost here (and hopefully with it more The Last Guardian news), but Geoff Keighley and company are already looking to the future, as Keighley revealed today that The Game Awards will return, this time airing everywhere on December 1st.

Banners for the (fantastic) event are showing up at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Just like last year, you’ll have the ability to stream the show onto essentially any web-connected gaming device, and this year they’ve decided to add an exciting, burgeoning new platform: VR.

Man I wish I could afford some VR equipment.

Also, we sure hope that Kojima gets to attend this year. Are you a fan of The Game Awards? What has been your Game of the Year thus far? Sound out below!

After a somewhat underwhelming month for Xbox Games With Gold in May, the service seems to be heading back into a strong month with June.

Starting from June 1st to the 30th, Xbox One users will be able to pick up the oddly charming Goat Simulator. Around the same time , from June 1st through the 15th both 360 and One users will be able to experience the rage inducing, controller smashing indie hit Super Meat Boy. After that, One players will be able to get behind the wheel as The Crew drifts into GWG from June 16th to July 15th, followed by XCOM: Enemy Unknown from June 16th to 30th for both gold users. Some unexpected and sad news has just broken.

Today, Disney has announced that due to continued decline in sales, they have decided to cancel their Disney Infinity series. Not just this, but they also revealed that they will be exiting console game publishing altogether. This is a pretty big blow, not just for toys to life, but also for the games industry itself as an entire publisher exits stage left.

Infinity launched on August 18th 2013, and was made to directly compete with the mega hit Skylanders franchise. If you’d like to read more you can find the company’s concession post right here. What do you think of Disney Infinity’s cancellation? Do you think Disney should completely leave the game console market?

In a surprising announcement this morning, Nintendo has announced that they have partnered up with Microsoft & Mojang to create a special Super Mario Mash-up pack for the Wii U version of Minecraft.

The free update on May 17th will include 40 new skins including Mario, Luigi, Diddy Kong, Waluigi, the Koopalings, and much more. There will also be 15 pieces of new music and item textures, as well as a pre-made world for you to explore. If you don’t want to fill your internal hard drive too much, then you’ll be able to purchase a retail version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition with the mash-up pack included for $29.99 on June 17th.  Are you looking forward to the free update? Tell us in the comments below!

On a recent weekday afternoon at a cozy loft in New York City, Microsoft held a press demo for the new Xbox One exclusive third-person shooter, Quantum Break. While playing as Jack Joyce, the time-stopping protagonist modeled and voiced by X-Men star Shawn Ashmore, I turned around to see Ashmore, in the flesh, standing five feet away. During what must have been my fifth double take, my avatar was shot, killed, fell to ground writhing in pain. Ashmore, the real one, winced.

I let Shawn Ashmore die while Shawn Ashmore watched, is what happened.

A few hours later, I’m finally talking to Ashmore himself. I apologized for getting him killed. He said it was okay, and explained how trippy it is to be in a video game again (he was last playable in the video game tie-in for 2006’s X-Men III: The Last Stand).

“The X-Men video game it was like a day of voice recording,” he said to me, reminiscing. “I was so not involved, and I didn’t particularly like that game honestly. To me there was no depth. It was kind of cool to see myself running around and flying and on the ice-slide because at that point I hadn’t done it in the films either. I was like, ‘Oh, at least I get to do the ice-slide here’ This is something totally different.”

He was referring to Quantum Break, the hybrid shooter that’s also a live-action series. During the course of the game, certain actions players make as Jack will be reflected in live-action “episodes” of Quantum Break. Whether it’s successful or not, no one can deny Microsoft and developer Remedy — known for Max Payne and Alan Wake — are trying something bold. “This doesn’t just feel like a video game to me,” Ashmore says. “This feels like a full experience. I think this is potentially a new step to tell stories, get to play great characters this way, and I feel like being part of this was a great step for me. I would do this again in a second.”

For Geekscape, I sat down with Ashmore during the demo in New York to discuss his involvement, the process of being an actor in a game, and we even look back on a few fond childhood memories. Animorphs, anyone?

At one point Quantum Break was very different than it is now, At what point did you jump in in the game’s development?

About two years ago. I’m not exactly sure how much material they’d released or how far the development was along. I think [director] Sam [Lake] was saying today that they’ve been developing for about three years, so obviously it was a fair ways down the line before I jumped in, but it was about two years ago.

What was your first impression then?

I got to watch a demo first and I was blown away. I loved the story, I loved the character. I grew up playing Remedy games so I knew the level of character and storytelling that they were going to bring to it, and the visuals I thought were incredible. You know the stutters, the ripple effect? The game play mechanics I thought were really, really fun. They’ve come a long way from when I first saw them, but just the concept and the idea I thought was really strong, and I was in immediately. As soon as I saw the thing I was like, “Yeah. Okay. Let’s do this. Let’s go.”

What are your impressions of Jack Joyce, the character you play in Quantum Break? What was it like slipping into his shoes that’s been different from your other roles?

What I thought was interesting is that, you know Jack has a slightly troubled past and you don’t know too much about it in the amount you play, but there’s backstory we got to work and figure out. This is sort of Jack Joyce’s origin story. He becomes a super hero by the end, but what I thought was interesting, he’s sort of like an everyman thrown into an extraordinary situation, so he reacts like a normal person would. A lot of games I play there’s this rugged, swashbuckler kind of attitude, like cavalier and that works. That works for a lot of games. What I liked about this is that it felt grounded to me. It felt like when he’s scared, he’s scared. When he’s upset, he’s upset. Just a very grounded, real character being put through the ringer emotionally as we go through the game.

That being said it’s also a lot of fun, like once Jack has these abilities he becomes powerful and enjoys that too. I like Jack. I like Jack’s troubled past, and  as the game progresses you get into a lot of these notions and you go deeper into who these guys are, what their relationships are, the classic idea of Paul Serene, them being best friends and then being pitted against each other. It’s a much more complex relationship than just protagonist and antagonist. These guys love each other, yet they’re pitted against each other, and I think that brought a lot of drama and I thought that was a very interesting relationship to explore as the game goes through. I just thought it was very complex when I jumped in.

There is much ado about Quantum Break‘s story because it’s told in a very unique way. It’s both television and video games. What was that experience like for you, maintaining a character through a digital process and then live-action?

Let’s talk about digital because that was the majority of my work. Because the video game is told from Jack’s perspective and the show is told from the antagonist’s, so it’s the same story told from two different perspectives. So Jack is more involved in the digital aspects, the game aspects than the show. There’s obviously crossover, but I spent more time with the game. It was challenging. It was totally different. I’d never done motion capture work before.

In all the X-Men films we shot it on set and then it was manipulated digitally afterwards, so to do the motion capture stuff was challenging because it’s just a new process. But it was also a lot of fun because it’s really stripped down. It’s a very raw way of capturing performance because it’s actors in big empty room working together, so you have the words, the page, the characters, and the actors recording together, so it felt natural. It felt easy once you got into it, and because you’re doing these sometimes ten minute takes, you get rehearsal ahead of time which you don’t get with film and television.

One of my healthy skepticisms about Quantum Break was the user experience, playing a video game and then watching a show for twenty minutes. As a gamer yourself, what do you think about that experience?

I’ll be honest. I think that if you’re not invested in the story, you’re not going to want to sit and watch the show. That’s what it is. When you’re playing action, you want to play an action game. Again, what Remedy does and what I was so excited for is that they tell a great story. You’re invested in the characters so you want to know more, and I think that that’s what’s important, and that’s what I when I approached the project, that’s what I got out of it. I thought the same thing. I was like, “Okay. That’s interesting.” But when I play a game a lot of times I just want to hit the skip and get back to the action.

I think by telling a story from two perspectives and interweaving the drama and the characters are hopefully grabbing people early, you’re going to want to learn more, so to me that was very important because this is a new way of telling a story. I think that’s really interesting, but I totally understand what you’re saying and I thought about that before I became involved, but when I read the story, I was like “This can work.” Remedy can weave this story so you want to know more. You want to spend as much time as you can with these characters.

I’d be remiss as a so-called “90s kid” if I didn’t ask: Animorphs! We’re in an era where everything kind of comes back and is renewed. Would you want to do Animorphs again?

It’s crazy. I was seventeen when I shot Animorphs in Canada. We didn’t get Nickelodeon in Canada. I worked on the show for two years, but none of my friends watched it. Nobody watched it in Canada because it wasn’t on TV. I came down to the States, I was walking around and people were like, “Oh, my God. Jake.” I was like, “Oh, wow. People actually watch this show.” That was an incredible experience. Then like I’d say maybe a year and a half or two years ago, like I hadn’t heard the word Animorphs in like fifteen years, and all of a sudden it came on Netflix and, again, people were walking down the street and they were like, “You’re the guy from Animorphs.” It had this resurgence, and I heard a rumor somewhere that they’re talking about making an Animorphs feature film, and I think it’s a lot of fun.

Would you want to be involved in that revival?

Absolutely. Sure. I’m probably way too old to play Jake anymore, but absolutely. That would be a lot of fun. That was one of the roles that helped me start a career as an actor, so it’s kind of near and dear to my heart, and it was a great experience at the time.

In 'Quantum Break' players take control of Jack Joyce, portrayed in the game and the live-action series by 'X-Men' star Shawn Ashmore.
In ‘Quantum Break’ players take control of Jack Joyce, portrayed in the game and the live-action series by ‘X-Men’ star Shawn Ashmore.

The big reason I bring up Animorphs is because you have a history with genre. You’ve also, of course, been in the X-Men movies. You’ve done a lot of straight-forward drama and comedies too, but you’re known in genre. What attracts you as an actor to this realm?

I grew reading fantasy, science fiction, comic books. This is my world. Entertainment-wise this is the kind of stuff I love, and I do love straight drama, and I love hard-hitting art house films, but growing up I was reading Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and X-Men comics, and I was playing video games, so this is my childhood. This is the stuff I love, and the reason I love science fiction and fantasy is that I think that you can tell such an extraordinary story. Normal people going through extraordinary things, that’s awesome, and as entertainment there’s escapism. That’s what I liked. I like heightened fantasy, that heightened world.

A lot of the projects that I’m attracted to as an actor are because I would want to watch them. I would want to play them. This is a game that I would love, you know a story driven game with science fiction elements, heightened game play. This is the kind of stuff that I want to play, so from the X-Men to Smallville, to Fringe, and all that stuff. I’m a fan of that. I do my best work when it’s a project that I’m excited about.

Fun question. Out of all the superpowers you’ve had in your career, which one would you actually want to have in real life?

Jack Joyce of course. [laughs] No, I actually am not sure I would want to have Jack’s powers because it’s kind of a burden. I think as you play through the game you realize that time travel is very, very complicated and the repercussions can be very challenging. I think being able to manipulate time might be as much of a burden as it would be as a gift. Maybe I’d go with Bobby Drake, although I’m cold all the time anyways.

Would you be open to coming back for Quantum Break 2 or 3?

Who knows what’s going to happen, but yeah. I would love to be a part of video games again. I loved working with Microsoft and Remedy. They’re creative, collaborative teams. That’s what I want as a performer. As an actor sometimes you step into work where everything is so set you don’t really get to have a say, so you’re just coming in and doing exactly what they want. With Quantum Break a lot of the character and the story were there, but I got Sam and the writers were open to my opinion, so I felt like, “Okay. They want me to bring a lot to this character.”

Is it rare as an actor to have that kind of input in a character?

Not always. For a big studio feature that’s not really the way. It’s more collaborative when you’re on an independent scale, and a lot of that has nothing to do with studio features not wanting actors to have an opinion. There’s so many rungs on the ladder, so if you want to make a change you got to go all the way up to the top, and I was dealing directly with the creative director of the company [for Quantum Break] so if I had an idea I could voice it. They weren’t all good ideas and they didn’t use all of them, but we had an open dialogue where I could talk, so I felt comfortable with the Remedy team immediately. That’s important.

You don’t want to feel uncomfortable you can’t say anything. If I couldn’t give them what they wanted performance-wise, I would say, “Hey, guys. Can we try changing this line? I’m not getting there. What can we do?” They’re accommodating to help me get where we needed because everybody benefits. If the performance is better, the story will be better, and a lot of the times it’s just as an actor sometimes you have a block, like a line just doesn’t read well. On the page it’s great and another actor could pull it off, but for you it just doesn’t roll off your tongue the right way. They were always willing to make adjustments and make things work and that was important.

For longtime Animorphs or X-Men fans, where can we see you next after Quantum Break

I’m about to go shoot a pilot for ABC up in Toronto called Conviction. I’ve a film called Devil’s Gate that just finished. Sort of like a thriller, dark thriller.

Could we maybe see you in a cameo for X-Men: Apocalypse?

No. I can say I’m not in X-Men: Apocalypse. I always hope that there’s another X-Men on the horizon for me because I loved that character. I’d love to go back again, but I am not in Apocalypse.

Quantum Break will release on Xbox One on April 5th.

Big news today on Xbox One Front!

Today, Phil Spencer the head of Xbox has just announced that anyone will be able to turn their Xbox One into a dev kit for the system. The best part? You can do it right now! FOR FREE!! How awesome is that? Now those aspiring to become devs for the console no longer have to dream of it. What do you guys think of this announcement? Will you try your hand at developing for Xbox One now that any console can become a dev kit?

Yesterday we reported that some info on Microsoft HoloLens had prematurely leaked.

Along with this came a game by the name of Young Conker, and it being a potential new Conker game made people excited. Well, now a trailer for the game is out. Let’s take a look at it shall we?

OH DEAR LORD!, WHAT IS THAT!?! I’ve seen some unsettling character designs in video games, but I think this one takes the cake. Aside from the traumatic change, the game looks to be more a tech demo than an actual full length game which is slightly disappointing. What do you think about Young Conker? Are you interested in trying it out?

Well, it looks like the cat’s out of the bag and into virtual reality.

According to a premature post on Fortune, it looks like Microsoft has lifted the veil a bit further on the HoloLens. The site cited that pre orders for HoloLens dev kits will go up tomorrow with a pretty deep price of $3,000! Fear not though as Microsoft will be bundling a bunch of goodies for you. These include previously unannounced games such as Fragments, Robo Raid, and Shockingly, Young Conker.

Here’s a quick summary of the game from the original post: “Young Conker – The rude and crude squirrel is ready for a new adventure… in your living room! The area around you is transformed into a level for Conker to explore. This means the game should have considerable replay value as different rooms represent entirely new levels.“It is amazing how different the play experience feels based on playing the game in your living room versus your kitchen or your bedroom. Even starting the game from a different position in a single room creates an entirely new gameplay dynamic,” Tsunoda wrote.”

While the article is down, the good people over at Ticgn were nice enough to get the info before the page was pulled. You can check that out right HERE! Are you Excited for the HoloLens now?

Rumour mills have been buzzing like crazy these past couple of weeks, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be slowing down.

It seems that someone over on a NeoGAF thread (which appears to not work anymore) went digging through some data on the Microsoft Store and happened to find a listing under games titled Young Conker. The ESRB for the game is T, and the page uses Sunset Orange as it’s background color. This might not even be the first time this game has been hinted at. Former WWE wrestler Ken Anderson uploaded a photo to his Instagram in early January saying that he was working on a super secret squirrel video game. Are you excited about the possibility of a new Conker game? Check out the pic below and tell us in the comments!

The best night for video games are just around the corner!

To help you prepare for The Game Awards, I’ve compiled this short, but informative Q&A to help you understand what they’re all about.

Q: What are The Game Awards?

A: The Game awards are an award show for the video game industry. Originally started in 2003 on Spike TV, The VGA’S were created to ‘celebrate’ video games, although it wasn’t really entertaining or PC. In fact, it was downright cringey and aggravating at some points (Madden 04 game of the year? Seriously?) After re-branding and once again failing to deliver an entertaining experience in 2013, Spike officially cancelled the yearly show, but former awards producer Geoff Keighly took it upon himself to create a brand new awards show. This time, it would be a real respectful celebration of all things video game.

Q: Is there anything else besides just awards?

A: Yes. Not only do you get to see some of your favorite video games get the recognition they deserve, but there are always special surprises sprinkled throughout it. This year, there will be 10 World Premieres for Brand new games and first look gameplay at previously announced titles. There are also special musical performances including some this year by Deadmau5 and CHVRCHES.  There is also an industry icon of the year award where an important person or group of people are celebrated for shaping a part of gaming.

Q: Where can I watch this?

A: Almost anywhere online! While you won’t be able to watch this on TV, you can easily go to http://thegameawards.com/  to watch, on top of that you’ll also be able to catch it on game sites such as IGN, and you’ll even be able to leisurely watch it from the comfort of your Xbox One, PS4, and even Wii U. Streams start at 6:00 PM PST with a pre show at 5:30, so don’t miss out!

For more info on the awards check out these small interview clips.

The Halo franchise is quite expansive. Spanning over numerous books, comics, video games, two live-action series, and animated shorts, Halo has grown to be a cultural phenomenon that’s hard to stay away from. I was a little over ten years old when I first played Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001. Being so young, I skipped over the DOOM craze and had dabbled in Star Wars: Dark Forces on my family’s old Macintosh. Halo was my first real FPS and it was also the first world in which I totally immersed myself in. In doing this, I eventually made the trip to Barnes & Noble in an attempt to find novels based on the game’s lore. I was successful and ended up buying the box set, which included The Flood, First Strike, and The Fall of Reach.

halo-the-fall-of-reach-concept-unleashed-09b8fe452d8c425984cd3b2ac18f718b

It was a story that delved into a time before the Master Chief became, well, Master Chief. It opened the door to new worlds in the Halo universe, new characters, some of which I waited fourteen years to see in a video game. Just as Halo 5: Guardians, Blue Team plays an integral part in The Fall of Reach, so it made sense to release the animated adaptation of The Fall of Reach alongside Halo 5.

halo-the-fall-of-reach-concept-test-f5da7566455b4c5d8f7f86d13b76ffbc

This animated adaptation of The Fall of Reach chronicles the Spartan II’s upbringing from the time of UNSC conscription to the end of their first mission against the Covenant. The adaptation tries to play well with Eric Nylund’s words, but just like every adaptation, there’s just something missing. However, most of the fan-favorite scenes from the book are included. Having read the book numerous times, I can say this was enjoyable to watch. With each key scene, it was like remembering a part of my childhood spent in those pages.

The story is separated into three chapters that center around John 117. Through this, we see the Master Chief become who he is by the time Halo: Combat Evolved rolls around. More importantly, we see just how he brings Blue Team together. The chemistry between Chief and Blue Team was never really shown or talked about before Halo 5. Seeing how John interacted with Kelly, Fred, and Linda was nice and adds to a much needed Master Chief story for Halo 5‘s campaign.

The animation leaves more to be desired. Some of the story’s key moments were lost on me because of the animation. However, this may not be the case for everyone. While I’m sure a lot of hard work was put into this, it’s hard to judge it when other installments in video form to the Halo lore have been better. The inconsistency in quality over the course of fourteen years gets to you. This problem was bound to arise when you have so many different artists and studios working to create an expansive world such as this one. Not only that, but with each artist comes a different vision of the universe. I just didn’t happen to enjoy this one too much.

The Fall of Reach was produced and directed by SEQUENCE, which is also responsible for creating the terminals found in Halo 4 and Halo 2: Anniversary. This 65-minute take on the novel makes this SEQUENCE’s most ambitious project to date.

It’s hard to gauge the demographic that The Fall of Reach was intended for. If it was for the fans, this animated take on a beloved tale lacks in a few key departments. If it was for newcomers to the Halo franchise or Halo lore, then this seems like a suitable crash course in how the Spartan II’s came into being. For those of you interested, the official synopsis is as follows:

Based on the Halo novel of writer Eric Nylund, the 65-minute feature tells the dramatic tale of the origin and intrigue behind the SPARTAN program that propelled characters like the Master Chief and Dr. Catherine Halsey into the pantheon of Halo lore. The story reveals the events that brought Master Chief and Blue Team together, including their Spartan training and their daring mission to strike back at the Covenant during the first days of the deadly alien invasion.

Overall, I would say Halo: The Fall of Reach is a good buy for anyone looking to buy a gift for a die-hard Halo fan. If you’re a collector of all things Halo, you shouldn’t feel too guilty about picking this up either. If it were up to me, I’d have everyone read the novel by Eric Nylund before taking a swing at this animated feature.

Halo: The Fall of Reach is available now on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Briefly: As you can see from my Fallout Apple Watch post from a couple of days back, it’s pretty clear that I’m pretty damned desperate for the game to finally release.

As such, I’ve been absolutely eating up each and every non-spoilery tidbit of Fallout 4 information over the past couple of weeks, and today I was pretty excited to learn that two Fallout 4 themed cars were headed to this generation’s best racing game (so far).

Fallout 4 may not have drive-able vehicles itself, but according to Xbox News Wire, “Starting today, all Forza Motorsport 6 players will receive an exclusive Fallout 4-themed version of the 1956 Ford F100 in the game. With a retro-futuristic Vault-Tec theme, the Fallout 4 F100 will be sent to Forza 6 players in celebration of the upcoming Nov. 10 launch of Fallout 4 on Xbox One.

Also coming soon, for a limited time, all players of Fallout 4 on Xbox One will receive the super sleek Chryslus Rocket 69 coupe – the future of speed!”

With these cars, and the fact that the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 also includes a copy of Fallout 3 thanks to the console’s forthcoming backwards compatibility, it seems as though Bethesda is providing Xbox One owners with the defacto Fallout 4 experience.

Take a look at the Ford F100 below, and let us know if you’re as desperate for Fallout 4 as I am!

It looks like 343 and Microsoft are trying to capture the magic that was Halo 3’s live action marketing campaign. Their newest teaser for Halo 5 depicts an announcement regarding Master Chief’s death…but we all know he’s still alive. It’s worth noting that the events that seemingly killed Master Chief take place on October 27, 2560. October 27, 2015 is Halo 5‘s release date.

Watch the teaser below:

We’ll have to wait a little while longer to see just what the event is, be through another teaser or a campaign mission. In any case, the excitement is ramping up.

Halo 5 is set to release October 27, 2015!

At first glance, Platinum Games’ upcoming Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound, looked like it was ripped straight out of the Monster Hunter playbook. When you think of a game where you run around big environments fighting towering dragons, how could you think otherwise? Once the first extended look at the game was released at GamesCom however, it’s clear that Hideki Kamiya’s upcoming title was a completely different beast.

From the five minutes of game play footage, it’s obvious that Scalebound looks incredible. Surprisingly, the player was fighting alongside a dragon rather than hunting it, exploring the gorgeous environments while fighting off enemies. Rather than being confronted by intimidating beasts, hordes of humans did their best to take down both the player and his dragon. With HP numbers popping up throughout the screen as damage is taken from both sides, it’s clear that RPG elements play a bigger role than what we had thought.

That’s not to say that you won’t be hunting monsters though, because there were a few shown off during the trailer as well. Fighting alongside your partner, the fighter was switching between sword attacks, long range bows, and items picked up on the field. Fighting around the two dragons clashing looked thrilling, which can only be improved by the co-op that the final version is promising.

From these early impressions, it’s looking like Scalebound might be one of the Xbox One’s highlights, but did we expect anything less from Platinum? Check out the trailer below and give us your thoughts!

As anyone who owns an Xbox One or PS4 can tell you, that 500 GB internal hard drive doesn’t take you very far. In this age of mandatory installs, 50 GB updates to fix titles that launch in a broken state, free games every month with each online service, or the plethora of DLC that fills the online marketplaces, it won’t be long until you’ll need some more space. While the PS4 is still behind on the external hard drive front, the Xbox One allows most 3.0 USB drives to plug into its USB ports.

Seagate Xbox Hard Drive Screen 1

Jumping on this growing need for gamers, Seagate and Microsoft announced at Gamescom that the two companies are teaming up to deliver an Xbox branded hard drive. Named the Seagate Game Drive, the green and black casing immediately identifies it as part of the Xbox brand, with a small, single cord storage device. At 2TB, Seagate is promising that you’ll never have to delete games again, holding a minimum of 50 games at a time.

Retailing at $109.99 and sold at nearly every major electronics outlet, Xbox owners shouldn’t have too much trouble finding it at their favorite shop. Xbox One owners, will you be plugging in this drive when your data starts running low? Keep an eye out for a full review in the coming days!

KI Rash

EDITORS NOTE: The Rash Beta Test is only available right now for people who have purchased a season of Killer Instinct or have purchased Rare Replay and booted up the NES version of Battletoads.

Big news for Xbox One fans eagerly awaiting the announcement for a 3rd season of Killer Instinct! Microsoft has just announced today at Gamescom that KI Season 3 is expected to launch sometime in march of 2016. They also announced that in honor of the release of Rare Replay, (expect our review later on that later this week) that Rash, from Battletoads, will be making his way to the fight. The best part about this announcement? His beta test available RIGHT NOW FOR FREE!! Users will have the chance to preview the new fighter up until September 8th. After that, they’ll just have to wait for the official release. Will you be Maining Rash?

For more info on how Rash works, check out the official KI website.

Have you ever wanted to explore our galaxy with a 1:1 ratio in customizable ships with friends? Elite: Dangerous might be the game for you. Elite: Dangerous is a space epic MMO where you and your friends can travel the galaxy, collect minerals, buy ships, and start dogfights in the middle of an astroid field. Players make their own stories and are free to explore when and how they want.

The latest gameplay footage of Elite: Dangerous for Xbox One, the definitive massively multiplayer space epic. Starting with only a small starship and a few credits, players do whatever it takes to earn the skill, knowledge, wealth and power to survive in a futuristic cutthroat galaxy and to stand among the ranks of the iconic Elite.

The game is available now on Steam and the Xbox One.

Fans of the Crackdown franchise have been eagerly awaiting the next installment. We all have fond memories of the first two games, with the first iteration holding a special place in my heart. I’ll be honest and say the only reason why I purchased Crackdown was to get into the Halo 3 beta that was launching at the time. I know I’m not alone in this, but after waiting a couple of hours through the boot up screen, I fell in love with Crackdown.

Crackdown 3 seems to bring back everything we loved about the first two games in the franchise and pushes the limits on the Xbox One. We’ve been hearing rumblings about a fully destructible environment for some time now, it’s another thing to see it in action. It’s especially exciting to see all of this incorporated into the multiplayer modes.

There’s still not a specific release date for the game, but we do know it’s scheduled to arrive Summer 2016!

Disney Interactive has announced that their upcoming Star Wars themed Toys to Life title, Disney Infinity 3.0, will hit stores on August 30th. Aside from the game itself, the studio plans to release close to a dozen new figures to go with it, so we hope the next month is enough time to get your cash together!

Aside from the Starter Pack, (which includes the Twilight of the Republic Play Set, Anakin Skywalker and Ashoka Tano,) day one will see the release of Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi’s standalone figures, Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, and Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels, and a set of Star Wars Power Discs. Of course, if you want even more goodness from a galaxy far far away, Playstation owners can also purchase the Star Wars Saga Starter Pack, which gives them early access to Luke, Leia, the Twilight of the Empire Play Set, and Boba Fett.

Outside of the Jedi, Disney won’t leave themselves in the dust. In addition, the Inside Out Play Set will release on day one as well, (which is bundled with Joy and Anger,) with Sadness, Disgust and Fear releasing as standalone toys. If you want your Toy Box characters outside of the Play Sets, Disney also has you covered with the releases of Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, Olaf, Sam Flynn and Quorra, alongside a Tomorrowland power disc pack to customize your Toy Box with.

I know, this is already a huge amount of toys to buy on day one, but the last release can be free of charge! If you pre-order, each person who does walks away with early access to the Toy Box Takeover, a multiplayer expansion normally priced at $19.99. Serving as an action adventure mode supporting 2 players locally and 4 players online, players will be able to take any toy from the previous or current game and travel across multiple Disney, Marvel and Star Wars worlds in their quest to stop Syndrome. Later this Fall, Toy Box Speedway, a Kart racing expansion, will also release, but you’ll have to pay for that one.
