Briefly: Damn.

One of my most anticipated titles of 2016, EA’s Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, has just hit another delay.

The game was originally slated to launch on February 23rd, but was pushed back to May 24th back in October of last year.

EA took to the official Mirror’s Edge website to announce the new release date, which will be June 7th in North America, and June 9th in Europe. Here’s the official statement:

Hello everyone,

As you know, we’re about to open the gates to the city of Glass for participants of the Closed Beta. One of the key features of the Beta and the full game is Social Play, detailed in our latest developer diary.

Taking on Dashes designed by DICE, creating your own Time Trials, climbing the Leaderboards, and connecting with your Runner friends are some of the Social Play features we’re really excited about – and something we want to play flawlessly.

To support the Social Play features, we are using a brand new online technology. We also want to make sure we have the opportunity and time to address player feedback from the Closed Beta. That is why we will give ourselves a bit more time to perfect the game, with a new release date for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst of June 7th (NA) and June 9th (EU). We’re confident that these extra two weeks will make sure the game is as amazing as possible for you the players.

Thank you all for your continued support and excitement for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. The return of Faith is imminent.

Erik Odeldahl, Design Director

A thankfully shorter delay than the last time around, and I think the important thing to remember here is that we’re getting a Mirror’s Edge sequel. Who ever thought we’d see a Mirrors Edge sequel!?

Briefly: Quantum Break is the reason that I bought an Xbox One (well, that I bought an Xbox One for the second time).

Remedy Entertainment’s previous endeavor, Alan Wake, was one of my favourite titles of last-generation, and as such it would be impossible for me to ignore such a striking, unique-looking title.

Today, Microsoft debuted a brand-new, awesome trailer for the title, and also revealed some other exciting Quantum Break news. First up, trailer time:

https://youtu.be/d4or8YE-6P4

Yeah, we know. It looks cool as hell.

Well, the Quantum Break package just got better. Every copy of Quantum Break for Xbox One will come with a full-game download for Alan Wake for Xbox 360, plus its two add-on packs, The Signal and The Writer. Better yet, pre-order the title, and you’ll also get a copy of Alan Wake: American Nightmare.

Microsoft has also revealed that the game will launch on Windows 10 day and date with the Xbox One version of the title. The company notes that they want customers to “play the games they want with the people they want on the devices they want,” so pre-ordering the title will also net you a free Windows 10 version of the anticipated title.

Of course, for those of you that haven’t yet jumped on the Xbox One bandwagon, Microsoft will be offering a new Xbox One bundle,  featuring a 500GB Cirrus White console and matching wireless controller, a full-game download of Quantum Break and a full-game download of Alan Wake accompanied by The Signal and The Writer add-on packs.

Quantum Break aims to offer an extremely “unique experience; one part hard-hitting video game, one part thrilling live action show, featuring a stellar cast, including Shawn Ashmore (“X-Men”) as the hero Jack Joyce, Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”) as his nemesis Paul Serene and Dominic Monaghan (“Lord of the Rings”) as Jack’s genius brother, William. Quantum Break is full of the vivid storytelling, rich characters and dramatic twists Remedy Entertainment are renowned for. Your choices in-game will affect the outcome of this fast-paced fusion between game and show giving the player a completely unique entertainment experience.”

Damn, I cannot wait to play this game. Are you looking forward to picking it up? Sound out below!

Briefly: Oh, delays.

DICE has just announced that one of my most anticipated titles of next year, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, will not make its original release date.

The title was originally slated to hit PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Feb. 23, 2016, and is now scheduled for May 24th.

DICE producer Sara Jansson notes that “We set out an ambitious vision for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. Achieving that vision and delivering the best possible experience is equally inspiring and challenging. And it takes time.”

I’m just happy that we’re getting the game at all.

Interesting enough, February 23 also holds the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Far Cry: Primal, so I have to imagine that the delay was also attractive sales-wise.

You can ready the whole update on the official Mirror’s Edge website, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see in the we-never-thought-it-would-happen sequel.

Briefly: I feel like Warner Bros. did a really bad job released Mad Max today, on the very same day as the release of the probably-last-ever Metal Gear game.

But, the game is pretty awesome (at least from what I’ve seen, my fiancé has been hogging it all day), and the publisher has just released an equally awesome launch trailer to go with it.

The graphics, mechanics, voice acting, music, and more all look great from what I’ve seen so far, and I really can’t wait to get my hands on it. I feel almost as tortured as Max is, however, as once it’s my turn on the PS4, I’ll likely skip Max at first to play the it’s-so-deep-I’ll-never-finish-it Metal Gear Solid V.

Take a look at the launch trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: It’s been a long time coming (like a whole console generation), but we’re finally just a week away from the launch of the Mad Max video game.

I know how excited Shane’s been for the title, but for some reason it’s slipped under my radar until now. Then I watched this newly released TV Spot and realized that it’s a freaking Mad Max video game.

How could it not be great?

The graphics, mechanics, voice acting, music, and more all look great from the videos that I’ve seen so far, and I really can’t wait to get my hands on it. I feel almost as tortured as Max is, however, as of course the game launches on the same day as the it’s-so-deep-I’ll-never-finish-it Metal Gear Solid V.

Take a look at the spot below, and let us know if you’ll be picking this one up.

It’s been a long time coming, but Remedy’s next game, Quantum Break, finally received some game play footage at Gamescom 2015. Originally revealed alongside the Xbox One itself, information on the upcoming exclusive from the team behind Max Payne and Alan Wake was hard to come by aside from a few trailers. Now that it’s finally been shown, it’s safe to say that they were hard at work, attempting to blur the line between television and video games to create an action packed cinematic experience.

Quantum Break is split into two halves. The primary section of the game is a third person shooter, allowing the team to use their much lauded time manipulating abilities to take advantage of the field, (and their enemies.) When stages are completed, full episodes of what are supposed to act as a TV show play, expanding on the world, story and characters. Bringing in a star studded cast led by Shawn Ashmore, Dominic Monaghan and Aidan Gillen amongst others, it’s clear that the team is taking this portion of the game seriously. But as hit or miss as games with a cinematic focus have been as of late, should we?

Still, Remedy has a near spotless track record, and after so much time has passed since their last game was released, I can’t help but be excited for their next endeavor, (not to mention the action looks fast paced and creative.) But enough about me, you be the judge! Tell us what your impressions are, and keep an eye out as Quantum Break approaches its late 2015 release.

At first glance, Platinum Games’ upcoming Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound, looked like it was ripped straight out of the Monster Hunter playbook. When you think of a game where you run around big environments fighting towering dragons, how could you think otherwise? Once the first extended look at the game was released at GamesCom however, it’s clear that Hideki Kamiya’s upcoming title was a completely different beast.

From the five minutes of game play footage, it’s obvious that Scalebound looks incredible. Surprisingly, the player was fighting alongside a dragon rather than hunting it, exploring the gorgeous environments while fighting off enemies. Rather than being confronted by intimidating beasts, hordes of humans did their best to take down both the player and his dragon. With HP numbers popping up throughout the screen as damage is taken from both sides, it’s clear that RPG elements play a bigger role than what we had thought.

That’s not to say that you won’t be hunting monsters though, because there were a few shown off during the trailer as well. Fighting alongside your partner, the fighter was switching between sword attacks, long range bows, and items picked up on the field. Fighting around the two dragons clashing looked thrilling, which can only be improved by the co-op that the final version is promising.

From these early impressions, it’s looking like Scalebound might be one of the Xbox One’s highlights, but did we expect anything less from Platinum? Check out the trailer below and give us your thoughts!

As anyone who owns an Xbox One or PS4 can tell you, that 500 GB internal hard drive doesn’t take you very far. In this age of mandatory installs, 50 GB updates to fix titles that launch in a broken state, free games every month with each online service, or the plethora of DLC that fills the online marketplaces, it won’t be long until you’ll need some more space. While the PS4 is still behind on the external hard drive front, the Xbox One allows most 3.0 USB drives to plug into its USB ports.

Seagate Xbox Hard Drive Screen 1

Jumping on this growing need for gamers, Seagate and Microsoft announced at Gamescom that the two companies are teaming up to deliver an Xbox branded hard drive. Named the Seagate Game Drive, the green and black casing immediately identifies it as part of the Xbox brand, with a small, single cord storage device. At 2TB, Seagate is promising that you’ll never have to delete games again, holding a minimum of 50 games at a time.

Retailing at $109.99 and sold at nearly every major electronics outlet, Xbox owners shouldn’t have too much trouble finding it at their favorite shop. Xbox One owners, will you be plugging in this drive when your data starts running low? Keep an eye out for a full review in the coming days!

Gamescom 2015 may be over, but the hype certainly lives on. This year’s show was packed with awesome demos, new debuts, and plenty of good ol’ fashioned spectacle. Though many games shined on the floor this year, few carried as much clout and overwhelming anticipation as Mirrors Edge: Catalyst. For anyone who is unaware, the original Mirror’s Edge was a successful game that made its debut in November of 2008. Yes, you’re reading that right, the game came out six years ago! That may not seem like a long time to some, but to die hard fans of the first game it’s been a lifetime. Check out the announcement trailer!

So why the nerdgasm? What makes Mirror’s Edge so cool? And what can we expect in this new addition to the series? Excellent questions! Lets start with what makes Mirror’s Edge awesome. To start, I cannot stress enough how refreshing it is to see strong female characters on screen. Too often these days, entertainment force-feeds us very familiar and unrealistic depictions of women. They are usually auxiliary characters that serve the purpose of being the love interest, or the scantily clad warrior. There are exceptions, but for the most part, we’re stuck with caricatures of women who are hard to connect with or care about, and this is probably due in part to the fact that men write those roles.

Faith is set apart from the rest of the chicks you’ve met so far because she is not only protagonist of the game, but she was created by a woman. Rhianna Pratchett, who I’m sad to say has no involvement in Catalyst, wrote the story for the Mirror’s Edge game and the comic book. She has been instrumental in changing the way women in games are viewed and redefining their roles. Like the new Tomb Raider? She wrote that too. Like the way the new, new Tomb Raider looks? She wrote that too! Faith is a badass to an uncanny degree, and yet Pratchett still manages to ground her in reality. Faith’s strength is her conviction, her weakness is her stubbornness, her fears lie with her sister—she is a compelling character all on her own, but the gameplay emphasizes this like no game has before.

faitheaturedImage.img

In the city of Glass, Faith is a runner. She is one of many who have chosen to take a stand against the oppressive, all-encompassing corporation that has seized the city through bureaucracy and force. You take hold of Faith in her missions to experience the city and the story through a first person, parkour style of play. You solve puzzle, fight enemies, and traverse terrain—all in first person. The fast paced action in many of the levels is sure to get your blood pumping, and the high-stakes acrobatics make sure that it stays pumping.

Now lets get to the new stuff. There isn’t much to be said at this point, but here’s what we do know. Though this is the second game, it is a prequel. This means that this is a younger Faith than we see in the first game, and perhaps even more daring. We can expect many of the same mechanics from the first game as well as the same setting. Developers are emphasizing the rise of Faith, an improved combat system, and open world travel. This is HUGE. Making the game open world allows the developers to sneak in any number of Easter eggs, hidden collectibles, and even side missions. These things have not been confirmed yet, but based on the first game I feel comfortable in my expectation of some of them. After all, it will have been seven years between games by the time Catalyst comes out.

The game runs on the Frostbite 3 engine, which is responsible for other visually stunning games like Battlefield 4. The game is currently available for pre-order on PC and PS4. Pre-ordering the game will get you some in-game content, but there is also a limited collectors edition that will get you a bit more for the retail price of $199.99.

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is slated to come out in February of next year, and based on the pre-alpha footage (watch it below), I believe that it will be well worth the wait.

KI Rash

EDITORS NOTE: The Rash Beta Test is only available right now for people who have purchased a season of Killer Instinct or have purchased Rare Replay and booted up the NES version of Battletoads.

Big news for Xbox One fans eagerly awaiting the announcement for a 3rd season of Killer Instinct! Microsoft has just announced today at Gamescom that KI Season 3 is expected to launch sometime in march of 2016. They also announced that in honor of the release of Rare Replay, (expect our review later on that later this week) that Rash, from Battletoads, will be making his way to the fight. The best part about this announcement? His beta test available RIGHT NOW FOR FREE!! Users will have the chance to preview the new fighter up until September 8th. After that, they’ll just have to wait for the official release. Will you be Maining Rash?

For more info on how Rash works, check out the official KI website.

Along with the flurry of announcements today, Dark Souls III had its gameplay debut. Fans of the first two games know what to expect from the franchise, and this gameplay trailer does not disappoint.

Dark Souls III continues to push the boundaries with the latest, ambitious chapter in the critically-acclaimed and genre-defining series. As fires fade and only embers remain, journey once more into a world filled with more daunting and colossal enemies and environments. Players will be immersed into a world of epic atmosphere and darkness through faster gameplay and amplified combat intensity. New to the series are the Battle Arts attacks. You’ll be able to deliver powerful attacks that will break through enemy defenses. Each weapon will have its own unique Battle Arts.

Dark Souls III is set to release in 2016!

Coming off the release of Mad Max: Fury RoadMad Max promises to bring the world we’re familiar with into a living and playable world. The game seems to blend Max’s tormented past and over-the-top action pretty well.

The game’s story is a stand-alone piece and will not tie into Fury RoadMad Max also has a tormented video game past of its own. You may remember the first announcement trailer that promised a game coming to last-gen consoles. Obviously that never happened, and the game has since been reworked into what we see above. Regardless, Avalanche Studios seems to have found their way to the game’s completion!

Mad Max is set to release September 1, 2015.

Halo Wars 2 is definitely one of those games that fans of the first always wanted, but not quite sure we’d get. It’s nice now that we have confirmation of the game’s existence. Worry will now be shifted to how the game will be handled. Shortly after the completion of Halo Wars, Ensemble Studios was dissolved. Certain Affinity and 343i will be handling Halo Wars 2 and the game’s story seems to be incorporating characters from the first game.

Fans will immediately recognize the name Douglas along with what appears to be the Spirit of Fire emblem on the side of the spartan’s armor. As well all know, Douglas went into cryo sleep, along with the rest of the Spirit of Fire crew that made it off the shield world. It will also be interesting to see how this game ties in with the Halo comics. Both are canon.

Halo Wars 2 is set to release next Fall.

Fans of the Crackdown franchise have been eagerly awaiting the next installment. We all have fond memories of the first two games, with the first iteration holding a special place in my heart. I’ll be honest and say the only reason why I purchased Crackdown was to get into the Halo 3 beta that was launching at the time. I know I’m not alone in this, but after waiting a couple of hours through the boot up screen, I fell in love with Crackdown.

Crackdown 3 seems to bring back everything we loved about the first two games in the franchise and pushes the limits on the Xbox One. We’ve been hearing rumblings about a fully destructible environment for some time now, it’s another thing to see it in action. It’s especially exciting to see all of this incorporated into the multiplayer modes.

There’s still not a specific release date for the game, but we do know it’s scheduled to arrive Summer 2016!

One of the many Xbox announcements this morning came in the form of a console announcement. We all knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when we’d see it.

If I’m being honest, I’m a little disappointed in the console. For years, I’ve been purchasing almost everything LE in the Halo franchise, but I’m finding that’s not the case anymore. The console might appeal to some fans, but it seems that everything Halo 5 seems to be focused on Spartan Locke, the new character introduced last year via Halo: Nightfall.

The LE Console is priced at $500 and includes a code for Halo 5‘s digital download. The console will also be available October 20th, seven days before Halo 5‘s October 27th release date.
