Udo Kier is one of the most recognizable cult actors working today! Sure, he regularly works with critically acclaimed auteurs like Lars Von Trier, Gus Van Sant and Wim Wenders, but he can also be seen in fun, popular movies like ‘Blade’, ‘Armageddon’, ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’ and ‘Iron Sky’! This week, Udo returns in the next chapter of the Puppet Master horror series… ‘Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich’! Starring Thomas Lennon (really!), Barbara Hampton and Michael Paré, Udo plays the Puppet Master himself as he raises hell on a museum filled with unsuspecting fans! We talk about Udo’s approach to acting and why he loves to take the genre films while also working in the Oscar friendly indies. We also discuss Udo’s superhero origin story during WW2 and cover a lot more topics… including some of your questions!

I may have mentioned back during Season 1 just how great Cinemax’s ‘Outcast’ series, based on the Images Comics series by Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta, is! Well, I hope you listened because Season 2 is airing right now and it is just as great! To celebrate the show’s return, I sat down with series star Patrick Fugit and showrunner Chris Black and talked about the uniqueness of this supernatural possession series. What went into crafting the specific tone? Did they have trouble portraying the level of darkness and violence necessary to getting the story right? And how did they pull off some of those incredible possession effects? If you’re a horror or TV fan, you’ll probably find something to like in our conversation!

The RKSS Film Collective, directors François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell, first came on the scene a few years ago with their Mad Max meets comic books and VHS nosalgia celebration ‘Turbo Kid’. Now, RKSS is back with the equaly nostalgic yet entirely different ‘Summer Of ’84’, a serial killer next door suspence thriller that mixes ‘The Goonies’ with ‘Rear Window’. RKSS sat down with me at San Diego Comic Con to talk about making ‘Turbo Kid’, playing with nostalgia and filmmaking. We also sprinkled in some pro wrestling, fantasy and horror talk if you’re into that (and I’m guessing if you’re here then you are)!

Geekscapists! We’re back from San Diego Comic Con 2018 but that doesn’t mean that the work is over! Just the opposite! Filmmaker, actress and multi-hyphenate Heidi Cox returns to the show to tell us all about the new crowdfunding campaign for the Stalking LeVar short film that her company Dweeb Darlings is producing with Geekscape and FonCo studios! Why did she team with us? What’s the story? Where did the idea originate? And why should YOU help out? In addition, we talk about the apparent, abrupt death of MoviePass, I give my thoughts on James Gunn’s firing from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and my stance on the approved Disney acquisition of 20th Century Fox… and it’s not good! This one is packed with fun filmmaking and industry talk so saddle up and get ready for a ride!

This is it! The San Diego Comic Con 2018 Spectacular! But it comes with a heavy heart as we remember one of our own: our beloved Jon Schnepp, frequent Geekscape guest and dear friend. We start things off on a somber note with Jon’s good friend Maddox, who shared a booth with Jon as our neighbor at SDCC’s past. We reflect on Jon’s influence on us and share a few Jon memories. Following up are Geekscape booth signees Don Nguyen and Andy Nordvall, discussing their Ink-tober inspired book ‘Siren’s Song’! We catch up with Dweeb Darling Heidi Cox to discuss the return of ‘Stalking LeVar’ and how you can help! The Heart of Geekscape himself Derek Kraneveldt shares some of his SDCC experiences with us and we make friends with Keith and Jen from the animated Twitch show ‘Critically Awkward’! On top of all this, we meet pinball and rock and roll artist Dirty Donny and discuss the culture and history of pinball machines! All said, it’s a very packed episode for a very packed week… and it’s all dedicated to our late friend Jon Schnepp. His GoFundMe is linked in the notes to help with his medical expenses and services. Carry his memory with you, Geekscapists.

There’s a lot of controversy about ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, Disney’s latest entry in the rapidly expanding Star Wars cinematic universe! From the box office to the story to the actors, nobody quite seems to be in agreement about film… but everyone is talking about it! And that includes Ian Kerner and I as we sit down to discuss pretty much every aspect of the film! Does it work? Was it necessary? What did we like? What worries us going forward? What was up with that surprise cameo? Where does this leave the announced James Mangold ‘Boba Fett’ movie? Is the Box Office indicative of the movie’s quality? Was Lando given his due? Do new characters Beckett and Qira hold up alongside the classics? Really, there is a LOT to talk about… so let’s get to it! Hyperspace time, Ian!

It’s been several years since Tim Jennings has been on the podcast so we welcome him back with open arms! Tim is one of the comedic performers behind ‘The Lusty Horde’, a longstanding improv group that is now an improvised genre storytelling podcast! Tim tells us about the history of the Horde, some hilarious stories about what worked and what didn’t when turning the live show into a podcast and more! Along the way we talk about some Infinity War and Deadpool 2 and I posit that the existence of the mobile trivia game HQ is evidence that ‘The Running Man’ and ‘The Purge’ isn’t that far away!

‘Deadpool 2’ is out! But now we’ve got a lot of questions! Like who is Cable? Who is Domino? They did WHAT in the first 15 minutes? How does Deadpool 2 fit with the X-Men films? How close is Cable’s origin story to the one in the comics? How does Deadpool 2 movie set up an X-Force film? What characters would be in an X-Force movie? Does this change the X-Men timeline? Should you bring your kids to see Deadpool 2? Is Deadpool 2 as funny as the first movie? And more! So obviously we have to get Ian Kerner to join us on this ‘Deadpool 2 Special’ to Wade Wilson through all the questions with us! Oh yeah! And MAJOR SPOILER WARNING! ENJOY!

‘Henry Danger’ star Cooper Barnes is a longtime Geekscapist and one of the only superheros that we can also call our friend (most are our enemies)! Before he suits up for a fifth season as Captain Man, Cooper drops by Geekscape to talk about whether or not this will be the show’s final season, how Nickelodeon broke it to him that Captain Man’s name won’t be in the title of the Henry Danger cartoon spin off and talk to us about Gremlins. Actually, about 80% of this episode is Cooper and I talking about Gremlins and working through the plotline of our proposed ‘Gremlins 3’ movie. And of course we talk some ‘Infinity War’ and a couple of other things. But yeah, it’s almost entirely Gremlins. Have fun.

‘The Concessionaires Must Die!’ is an independent film years in the making! Just how many? Well, you’ll have to listen to the podcast for answers like that! Directed by longtime Geekscape friend America Young and starring previous Geekscape guests David Blue and Stan Lee, the film is best described as “Empire Records in a movie theater”! But it’s not as simple as that. A lot of love, sweat and tears went into putting this film together. To get the full story, I sat down with America, David, actress producer Zakareth Ruben and actor Cosby Siringi to talk about putting the film together, the highlights of shooting for two weeks in exotic Fresno, some of the hurdles in finishing the film and much, much more! I’ve gotta admit that I was pretty nervous sitting down withs Dean Devlin, writer and producer of tentpole films like ‘Independence Day’, ‘Stargate’ and ‘Godzilla’ and producer of TNT hits like ‘Leverage’ and ‘The Librarians’. But I think things smoothed out pretty quickly as we started talking about Dean’s new directorial effort ‘Bad Samaritan’, starring Robert Sheehan and David Tennant. The film is out this week and Dean is quick to talk about the film being a completely independent production and about his long history with (and without) the Hollywood studios. Among some of the highlights are his opinion of modern film criticism, whether or not last year’s ‘Geostorm’ was a mistake and his relationship with filmmaker Roland Emmerich. Also, what are the things that attracted him most to putting ‘Bad Samaritan’ together the way he wanted! There’s a lot to digest here, Geekscapists, so enjoy!

And multi-hyphenate Dan Fogler, who you may know from the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Harry Potter films, definitely doesn’t disappoint. We talk about his new graphic novel ‘Brooklyn Gladiator’ and the long writing and creative process that started in theater, wound through filmmaking and ended up as a beautiful 100 page book! And how does this book tie into Dan’s earlier graphic novel anthology ‘Moon Lake’ and the ideas he’s got spinning in his head for more stories? Dan discusses his fascination with conspiracy stories and then takes the time to answer your fan submitted questions! And obviously, we geek out and talk about a lot, lot more! Enjoy!

James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti are probably best know as actors from the hit WB/CW show ‘One Tree Hill’… but that was years ago. Does that mean that James and Stephen are taking post TV stardom sitting down? No! They’ve taken their careers into their own hands and are back with ‘Everyone Is Doing Great’, a self-produced independent pilot that can stand toe to toe with TV’s funniest. We talk about indie filmmaking, the origins of the idea, the reality of being working actors, their most painful auditions and much, much more! Fritz Böhm’s film ‘Wildling’ is a supernatual fairy tale coming of age story that I was immediately hooked on from the opening moments. Starring Liv Tyler, Brad Dourif and Bel Powley, the film isn’t necessarily a horror movie or a werewolf movie as much as it’s something new entirely (with some very cool familiar elements). In this episode, Fritz and I talk about playing between the familiar and the fresh and the origins of the film’s story. We also talk about the challenges of bringing the film to life over several years and filming the rural story in one of the most populated places on the planet! As much as I enjoyed the film, I enjoyed Fritz and I’s conversation even more and hope you do as well! Support indie film!

Before watching Jon Schnitzer’s documentary ‘Haunters’ I thought that haunted houses, haunted hayrids and local horror nights were just a Halloween time event! Boy was I wrong! It turns out that “haunts” not only happen year round but sometimes spring up right in our back yard! And some of them push not only the willing visitors but the haunt creators themselves to the edges of their own sanity! I was both inspired and troubled by some of the subjects in this documentary and couldn’t wait to get Jon on the show to talk about fear, horror movies, the evolution of haunts and what it really means to be an artist!
