Just 11 days ago we showed you the fantastic first teaser for the high much anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness. The action-packed preview ran just over a minute long, and a full length trailer was said to be releasing shortly afterwards.

That preview has just been released, and as everyone expected, it’s AWESOME. I can’t wait for more (and I’m disappointed I don’t live near an IMAX).

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Star Trek Into Darkness flies into theatres on May 17th.

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

After some photos and a few unsettling teasers,  A&E is finally giving us an actual look at the anticipated Psycho pseudo-prequel Bates Motel.

The trailer is hitting movie theatres nationwide, and Deadline was kind enough to put it online for everyone else to see. Colour me excited: Bates Motel looks suspenseful, disturbing, and mysterious, and bringing the Bates legacy into modern times is sure to turn some heads.

Watch the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Bates Motel premieres in 2013. I know I’ll be checking in, what about you?

“Norma Bates buys a motel on the outskirts of an idyllic coastal town seeking a fresh start with her teenage son, the handsome and shy Norman.”

Willow fans, this is some wonderful news.

In celebration of Willow‘s upcoming 25th anniversary, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox have (finally) announced a Blu-Ray edition!

The Blu-Ray will launch March 12, 2013. This means that, 9063 days after the film premiered, we’re finally set to see it at home in high definition. This new release will feature a completely new digital transfer and restoration overseen by the wonderful team at LucasFilm, as well as some never before seen special features including:

-NEW Willow: Deleted Scenes with Ron Howard
-NEW Willow: An Unlikely Hero Personal Video Diary of Warwick Davis
-The Making of an Adventure with an all new introduction from Ron Howard
-From Morf to Morphing with an all new introduction from Dennis -Muren
-Matte Paintings
-Easter Egg

We’re stoked for this at Geekscape. This is one of Jonathan’s top 5 fantasy movies of all time (and the first he ever saw in a theater). And now I can actually get the reference when he calls me “Peck”!

Again, you’ll be able to pick up the 25th anniversary edition of Willow on Marth 12th, 2013. Watch the trailer for the upcoming release below, and share your excitement!

When young Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis; Harry Potter franchise) finds an abandoned baby girl, he learns she is destined to end the reign of the wicked Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh; “Upstairs, Downstairs”). In order to protect the child, Willow must team up with a rogue swordsman (Val Kilmer; Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) and overcome the forces of darkness in the ultimate battle of good versus evil!

Back in October we showed you an action-packed trailer for Walter Hill’s Bullet to the Head. The film follows the unlikely allegiance of hitman Jimmy Bobo (Sylvester Stallone) and law enforcer Taylor Kwon (Sung Kang), who team up to, well…. get revenge!

The movie certainly looks like a fun ride (as was the french graphic novel it was based on), so I’m looking forward to seeing it! A cool new poster for the film has just been revealed by IGN, so check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Excited? Bullet to the Head hits theatres on February 1st.

All the way back in September, Marvel and Wideload Games released a funky little game for mobile devices (well, iOS and Android anyways) called Avengers Initiative. We reviewed the title just a day after it released, and while it definitely had (and continues to have) room for improvements, it was a decent title at the right price.

Upon release, Wideload stated that subsequent DLC packs would be released for the game, furthering the plot while adding Avengers and other goodies. Today the first pack is available, all for the low, low price of free (as long as you’ve already purchased the game of course).

Captain America is now a playable character, but he isn’t the only thing that’s new. The change log points out plenty of other additions too:

– Optimized for iPad mini and iPad Retina display
– Added support for iPhone 5 resolution
– Captain America now fully playable, improve your skills with Captain America’s agile takedowns and tactical shield attacks
– Fight aboard the Hydracarrier against Taskmaster and the forces of Hydra.
– Go up against Hydra War Drones, Skrull, Hydra Brutes, and Taskmaster himself.
– Added new Hulk costumes, including Mr. Fixit
– Added new Captain America costumes, including WWII Super Soldier
– Added Russian language support
– Unlock new Marvel XP audio logs including Mockingbird’s undercover mission and new Captain America Awards
– Fixed Verizon iPhone 4 framerate bug
– General bug fixes

Sadly, the one feature that I really wanted is still strangely absent: iCloud Support. $6.99 puts the game on both my iPad and iPhone, but SAVES DON’T TRANSFER!

In any case, the update is free for existing players. If you’re interested in the game, you can try the lite version for free, and then get the paid version if you deem it worthy!

Played the Captain America update? What do you think?

I can’t wait for Warm Bodies. Summit Entertainment’s zombie rom-com looks to breathe some new life into the tired supernatural romance genre. The movie looks like a great time, and I know I’ll be getting in line when it releases on February 1st.

Summit has just released five stylish new one-sheets for the film, and they look just as good as all of the marketing we’ve seen so far!

Are you looking forward to the movie? What do you think of these new posters? Never heard of Warm Bodies? Check out the already released trailers here and here!

A funny new twist on a classic love story, WARM BODIES is a poignant tale about the power of human connection. After a zombie epidemic, R (a highly unusual zombie) encounters Julie (a human survivor), and rescues her from a zombie attack. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and as the two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human – setting off an exciting, romantic, and often comical chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world.

With less than a month to go until the ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has revealed the nominees for this years Golden Globes ceremony. The show will air live on January 13, and is guaranteed to offer rich people in expensive outfits, and some entertainment too!

Check out the list of nominees below, and let us know what you think! My biggest question is how Hotel Transylvania gets a nomination for Best Animated Feature, but Paranorman doesn’t!

Will you be checking in on the ceremony?

Ron Gilbert and Double Fine are both names to get very excited about. Ron Gilbert of course has quite the resume himself, and his name should be instantly recognized for creating the world of Monkey Island. Double Fine also has an extensive list of titles, but is most revered for 2005’s brilliantly weird platformer, Psychonauts.

All the way back in 2010 it was announced that Gilbert and Double Fine would be working together on a new title, and the gaming world went wild. That title is The Cave, and it’s now barely a month away from release. It also looks to be an absolute masterpiece.

A new trailer has just been released for The Cave, showing off some of the quirky characters you’ll be playing as, as well as the narrator who it turns out… is a talking cave!

The game looks absolutely phenomenal. Watch this trailer, get excited. Repeat as necessary.

Sony just published a great interview with Gilbert, focussing on the trials and tribulations of making The Cave, and of course how he came to find himself at Double Fine. A very interesting tidbit however, was the reveal of Gilbert’s favourite character creation. Guybrush Threepwood is the among the most beloved characters of countless gamers worldwide, so it’s nice to know that he’s right at the top of his creator’s list too.

The Cave will release in January for Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Excited?

Ever since The Last of Us was announced all the way back in December of last year, I’ve been eagerly awaiting each piece of footage, every bit of news, every single image… you get the picture: I’m excited as hell for this game.

As many of you are aware, just four nights ago Spike TV aired their annual Video Game Awards (the very same awards where The Last of Us was announced). A new trailer for the game was shown, and the official release date was also announced! The Last of Us will hit shelves on May 17th, 2012.

That very same preview has now officially been release online! Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Honestly, The Last of Us looks absolutely incredible. I’m still bewildered that any game from this generation can even look like this. I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

We all know and love Ian McKellen. From Gandalf to Magneto, the knighted star has touched our geek hearts in a way that few others ever have. The guy is perfect in every role he is chosen for, and from every encounter, seems to simply be an extremely nice guy.

In a Daily Mirror interview published today, McKellen revealed the surprising fact that he has prostate cancer and has been living with it for the past six or seven years. With so many people falling victim to the disease every year, it was relieving to hear that McKellen’s case is luckily not life threatening.

If I heard the news that I had prostate (or any) cancer, I’m sure that I would take it much, much worse than McKellen’s surprising strong stance on the disease, as during the interview he stated:

“When you have got it you monitor it and you have to be careful it doesn’t spread. But if it is contained in the prostate it’s no big deal.”

Check out the full interview over at The Daily Mirror. Of course, all of us at Geekscape wish McKellen the best at his ongoing battle.

UPDATE: According to McKellen’s agent, this story is simply not true. “No, he does not have prostate cancer. … That was taken out of context and from an interview from years ago,” Chris Andrews stated just hours after the interview was published.

Wonderful news if this turns out to be the case! We can only hope that the interview in fact was taken out of context, and that the venerable performer is doing just fine!

Warner Bros. Pictures has just released a new full length trailer for next Summer’s highly anticipated Man of Steel. This new trailer gives us a much better look at Supes and the supporting cast, as well as some of the trials they may face during the duration of the film! I don’t want to reveal anything, so just check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Man Of Steel opens on June 14. The film is directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen), and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, Lawrence Fishburne, and more!

How excited are you for this one? As long as it’s nothing like Superman Returns, we should be in for a treat!

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”

Remember our friend Cooper Barnes? We featured him all the way back on Geekscape 246, where he and Jonathan spoke of everything from SNL Auditions to The Men’s Room and even Anthony Hemingway’s Red Tails. It’s a great episode with a very interesting guest, so if you haven’t heard it I implore you to do so!

Today Cooper and the folks from Turtle Island Comedy released a new parody music video based on the upcoming mega-hit The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The video is titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Rap, and it’s wonderful, so check it out!

You can check out all of Frog Island’s other videos on YouTube (where else!?).

Before today, I had mixed feelings about how Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 would turn out. First of all I’m sure the film will be the most funny to people that have just hit or are soon to hit that age group (at 22, I’ve still got a few more years to go). Secondly, Knocked Up (which this film acts as a pseudo-sequel to) is my favourite Apatow film thus far, and a bad sequel would likely be detrimental to my feelings for the first film too.

I can lay those worries to rest. A new (red-band) trailer for the film has just been released, and it is freaking hilarious. Like I-just-shot-a-bit-of-Coke-Zero-out-of-my-nose hilarious. That shit burns, and I’m not even upset about it.

Watch the trailer below, and let us know what you think! This Is 40 opens in just 11 days (December 21 for those non-counters out there).

An original comedy that expands upon the story of Pete and Debbie from the blockbuster hit Knocked Up as we see first-hand how they are dealing with their current state of life. After years of marriage, Pete lives in a house of all females: wife Debbie and their two daughters, eight-year-old Charlotte and 13-year-old Sadie. As he struggles to keep his record label afloat, he and Debbie must figure out how to forgive, forget and enjoy the rest of their lives…before they kill each other.

Axel Braun knows his market well. Geeks love superheroes, and it seems like in this internet ruled age, everbody loves pornography. Mix the two, and what do you have? Probably a big bag full of money and a crowdful of fans!

Axel’s been a friend to Geekscape for quite some time, and he was kind enough to give us an exclusive first look at his latest XXX offering: She-Hulk XXX: An Axel Braun Parody. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Axel of course has many of superhero parodies under his belt, including (but not limited to): Superman Vs. Spider-Man XXX, Avengers XXX, X-Men and Wolverine XXX, and many more!

Thanks for the exclusive Axel!

She’s hot, she’s mean, and…she’s green! Undisputed porn parody king Axel Braun and adult powerhouse Vivid Entertainment finally bring to life one of the most beloved comic book heroines, and who better than world-famous former WWF wrestling superstar Chyna to portray her? Sexy, funny, and outrageously entertaining, “She-Hulk XXX: An Axel Braun Parody” will be available on DVD and on vivid.com in February 2013.

Bah. The one game that I seem to have been waiting for forever, has just been delayed again. Irrational Games’ insanely anticipated Bioshock Infinite has been pushed back once more, this time by another month. The new tentative release date is March 26, 2013 (the previous delay had it releasing February 26th, which is also my birthday!).

Of course, there’s a silver lining to every delay: though we’ll be waiting longer to finally get our hands on it, if the finished product is better for it, is the news really negative? As the great Shigeru Miyamoto stated: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

In other Bioshock news, Spike TV’s 10th annual Video Game Awards aired last night (check out the winners here), and an AWESOME new trailer for the game was shown during the ceremony. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Are you excited for Bioshock Infinite? What did you think of the previous two games?

Spike TV’s 10th annual Video Game Awards have just wrapped for 2012. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to watch the ceremony live, but I heard very good things about this year’s offering, and will definitely make the effort to check it out as soon as I can!

Spike has just sent out the press release containing the full list of winners, and I have to say that there are some major (and majorly exciting) surprises among the rulings.

Remember that game that everyone on Geekscape has been gushing about since its debut in April? Well that picked up a few pretty decent awards, including GAME OF THE FREAKING YEAR! Yeah you read that right: Telltale’s incredible adaptation The Walking Dead beat out the likes of Assassin’s Creed III, Dishonored, Mass Effect 3, and even ThatGameCompany’s incredible PS3 exclusive, Journey. This was an amazing win that I wasn’t expecting whatsoever.

Telltale snagged a few other awards this year too: Studio of the Year,  Best Adapted Game, and Best Downloadable Game (which will also be hitting physical stores THIS TUESDAY)

Not long ago it was revealed that the just-released-even-though-it-was-made-in-1987 Miami Connection would be getting a limited VHS release along with its other home video options. This was an awesome touch for collectors, and a wonderful contrast to the typical home video release for any film these days.

Fittingly titled, 2012’s most talked about horror anthology, V/H/S is about to receive the same treatment. It’s a fantastic idea based on the plot of the film (check out our review here), and is sure to excite extreme horror fans looking for an extremely authentic experience.

The 300 copies of the V/H/S VHS edition will be about 25% rarer than Miami Connection, which is getting much larger run of 400 units. Details on the release will come sometime in January from TotalFanHub.

Exciting for sure. I just have one question: WHERE ARE THEY GETTING THESE VHS TAPES I THOUGHT THEY STOPPED MAKING THEM YEARS AGO!?

Machinima has just released the final two highly anticipated episodes of Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome.

I’ve been a HUGE fan of the miniseries so far. It’s amazing to get a better look at the first Cylon war, and learn more about the character we all loved so much in 2004’s Battlestar Galactica reimagining. Everything ends today unfortunately, as Blood and Chrome was not picked up beyond this point. We’ll miss you Bill.

Check out the episodes below, and as always, please share your thoughts! So say we all!

Episode 9:
In the aftermath of the deadly Cylon ambush, Coker threatens Becca, forcing Adama to a heated standoff.
Episode 10:
Becca discovers a startling new development that will affect the future of the human race. Meanwhile, Coker’s life hangs in the balance as the team holds out hope for a rescue, and Adama has a disheartening realization about the war effort and his place in it.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome is set to air on Syfy in full this February, with a home video release following a few weeks later. Or, you can watch the whole thing on Machinima right now!

loved 2006’s Stranger Than Fiction. I can still recall the time shortly after it came out on DVD: nobody that I knew had heard of it, so I made it my mission to share it with everyone. It was fantastic, heartwarming, and hilarious, and is also one of the few roles that I’m able to stomach Will Ferrell in.

Zach Helm wrote and came up with the story for Stranger Than Fiction, and now he’s responsible for scripting the Jumanji remake that was announced last Summer. At the time of its announcement Columbia head Doug Belgrad stated that their intention was to “reimagine ‘Jumanji’ and update it for the present.” Nothing else is known about the project at this time, and no stars are currently attached (let’s hope for a Robin Williams cameo!).

I rewatched Jumanji recently, and almost enjoyed it even more than when I was a kid. When I first learned of the upcoming reimagining, I thought the film was much to recent to already be remaking. Then I realized that it came out in 1995, which was just about 18 years ago, which made me feel old and sad.

What do you think? Are you excited on this Jumanji for a new generation? Do children even play board games these days? Maybe Jumanji will be a video game this time around.

This might be the most unexpected piece of news you’ll read all week.

A stage musical based on Guillermo Del Toro’s acclaimed 2006 fantasy Pan’s Labyrinth is in the works. Deadline broke word of the project, which Del Toro has been working on in secret for over four years in an attempt to find just the right production team.

That team has now in place. Paul Williams is set to write lyrics while Brokeback Mountain’s Gustavo Santaolalla will compose. Few other details of the project are known at this point. Whether the play will be a direct adaptation or a new plot completely is still unknown. Based on the writing team however, there’s a very good chance that the musical will first premiere in English, unlike the Spanish feature film.

In speaking of the announcement to Deadline, Del Toro spoke very highly of his chosen crew, stating “I admire and love Gustavo and Paul wrote the perfect album in Phantom Of The Paradise, which I have loved for decades.”

With a team like this, whenever Pan’s Labyrinth premieres, I can confidently say that viewers are in for a treat. I better start saving for my plane ticket.

What do you think of the news? Were you a fan of Pan’s Labyrinth?

More like Star Trek Into AWESOME.

Paramount Pictures has just released the first teaser for the much anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness. This trailer acts as a teaser to the double length preview we’ll be seeing next week.

The film looks dark, intense, and from the one minute of footage seen below, insanely cool. Check out the teaser, and let us know what you think!

After TRON: Legacy‘s less than stellar box office earnings in 2010, Disney seems to have repeatedly shifted back and forth on the decision to produce a third film.

Today however, was a good day for TRON fans. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that TRON 3 (not the official title) is again moving forward with writer Jesse Wigutow slated to rewrite the script. TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski had previously signed on to direct the follow up. Of course, nothing has been revealed about the plot at this point, but after the way that Legacy concluded, it’ll certainly be interesting to see where they go with it.

I enjoyed TRON: Legacy, and was quite disappointed when the film didn’t do well (meaning chances of another film in the series were slim). I found myself quite invested in the world and its characters, so it would be hard for me not to get excited about this one!

What did you think of TRON: Legacy? Are you looking forward to a third movie?

Well, this is awful.

We know how emotional people can be about the things that they love (if you watched tonight’s live show, Shawn and The Amazing Spider-Man would be a great example of that). The Walking Dead is one of the hottest things on Earth right now, and based on that and the subject matter it’s no surprise that arguments tend to arise over the franchise and its content.

Unfortunately, today a silly argument turned into something much, much worse. Deadline reports that a Long Island man has been charged with attempted murder after shooting his girlfriend after an argument… about the AMC series.

Jared Gurman adamantly believes that the series is believable and actually quite possible. His girlfriend did not. So after an hours long argument both in person and via text message, he shot her. What. The. FUCK.

She suffered a pierced lung, a shattered rib and a pierced diaphragm. She’ll survive, but I’m betting that after this, their relationship will not. He sounds like an awful human being anyways.

Geeks, this is awful. No matter how much you may disagree with someone, whether about The Amazing Spider-Man, The Walking Dead, or ANYTHING. It’s an OPINION, and it doesn’t matter in the long run. It just doesn’t matter.

Stay safe geeks.

Geekscape just turned 6 years old. For those of you who like your numbers a little bit bigger, that’s 2191 days, 52594 hours, 3.15…. you get the picture. We’re old! Over half a decade old!

Tonight’s the night to celebrate. We wouldn’t be here without you readers, so every single one of you is invited. Here’s the address (it’s also the Ranker office if you’re familiar with the area):

Suite 880, 6420 Wilshire Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA
90028

Of course, that’s in Los Angeles and we have readers all over the place. We’d love to physically fly you all out to celebrate with us, but it’s a little late for that. You’re not totally out of luck though! We’ve set up a live stream of the event, so you can watch and laugh and generally wish you were there. We’ll be recording a live podcast, and will also have plenty of news about Geekscape’s bright and shining future. You can watch the very special live feed, well, right at the bottom of this page!

Thanks readers, and from a long time fan, thanks Jonathan, writers, and Geekscape! Let’s make it a night to remember! Don’t forget to wish Jonathan a happy birthday while you’re there!

Magnet Releasing has just unveiled a new (green band) trailer for their upcoming horror anthology, The ABC’s Of Death. As far as anthologies come, this one is HUGE, and will feature 26 sections (one for each letter of the alphabet), each developed by a different director.

I was pretty excited for the film after seeing the first trailer, and after seeing the new footage in today’s preview, I have to say that I’m actually really looking forward to it (about as much as I can look forward to a horror film)!

Our friend Jon Schnepp was lucky enough to be one of the chosen directors. He was featured on the podcast back in May, where we were happy to hear a few words about the movie.

Check out the new trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived, with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

George Costanza himself, Jason Alexender is headed back to community college. Not really of course, but he will guest starring on an upcoming episode of NBC’s troubled Community.

The actor has just revealed the (awesome) news via Twitter. Shortly afterwards TV Line was able to confirm, and Community fans went wild. No information has been revealed on who Alexander will play or what the episode will be about.

After numerous delays, the firing of creator Dan Harmon, and last week’s departure of Chevy Chase, it’s really great to hear some positive Community news for once. The fourth season is finally set to premiere on October 19 February 7th.

I can’t wait.

Warner Bros. Digital today announced that a second season of their acclaimed (get it?) web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy is currently in production, and is set to premiere exclusively on Machinima in the second quarter of 2013.

The first season of Legacy has brought in over 60 millions views on Machinima’s YouTube channel, so a second season was nigh inevitable. It appears as though I’ve been living under a rock for the past year, as I’d actually never heard of the series until today. I was a huge Mortal Kombat fan when I was younger (children love hyperviolence), so it’s safe to say that I’ll now be checking the series out.

As far as plot goes, it doesn’t sound particularly deep (though does it really need to be?). The press release describes it as:

The saga continues as Liu Kang and Ermac join the ranks of fighters introduced in the first season of the web series including Kenshi, Kung Lao, Kuai Lang, Stryker, Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage, Scorpion and Sub Zero.  This new season will uncover the rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld.  The epic battle for Earthrealm has finally begun!

There was one other tidbit in the press release that I found to be oddly exciting: Casper Van Dien is Johnny Cage. You remember Casper don’t you? He’s best known for playing Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers, and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder. He’s also awesome, and he more than resembles Johnny Cage (though he may need to build a little extra muscle and get a few chest tattoos).

Check out the very first episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy below, and let us know if you’re excited for the second season! The first clip is set to premiere on February 17, at the 2013 Streamy Awards!

Again, season two should premiere in just a few months, and stars the likes of Harry Schum Jr (Glee), Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), Brian Tee (The Wolverine), Ian Anthony Dale (Hawaii Five-O), and Cary Tagawa (Mortal Kombat).

Telltale’s The Walking Dead is the BEST game that I played in 2012. I also play a lot of games, including all of the high profile titles you’d expect from most gamers. Not one of those titles stuck with me and affected me like this one did. Not one game this year even came close.

The Walking Dead is a downloadable episodic title, and after all of the praise that we’ve given it (check out our review of each chapter here, here, here, here, and here) there is only one acceptable reason for you to not have played it: you don’t know what the internet is. If you’re reading this however, that’s simply not possible, so you’re a terrible person.

It was announced in September that the game was getting a physical rendition, and in October an AWESOME collector’s edition was revealed for release on December 4th. That date has shifted back one week, but the contents are the same, and it’s fantastic:

-The Walking Dead game featuring all five episodes
-The Walking Dead: Compendium One (collects the first 48 issues of the source material, -featuring exclusive art by Charlie Adlard)
-Collector’s box featuring exclusive Charlie Adlard art

As we mentioned in October, this collector’s edition is pre-order only , and there are only a few days left to get that preorder in. The standard edition will be available everywhere, though Best Buy will have some exclusive art on their copies.

Buy the game. Just buy it. Buy two and give one to a friend. Telltale deserves it, and I want more people to experience this game.

Again, Telltale’s The Walking Dead will physically be in stores a week from tomorrow, December 11!

We’re just six months from the insanely anticipated release of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, and Warner Bros. has just released a new poster!

In the image, you can clearly see that Supes’ is wearing handcuffs, and looks as though he’s being transported by a human military. Where is he going? What did he do? When will we know!

I know I can’t wait for the film, how about you? What do you think of this new poster?

Man of Steel flies into theatres on June 14th!

Welcome to Walking Dead Weekly! As the title implies, each week (bearing a new episode of course), we’ll be taking a look at the latest episode of the AMC series. I’ll let you know how I felt about each weekly offering, and will also compare it to what Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard were doing with the comic at the same time.

Last week’s When The Dead Come Knocking was an awesome return to form after the lacking (in my opinion) HoundedMerle started things off by giving Glenn a nice beating in an attempt to learn the location of the camp, and subsequently, his brother. Glenn is tough as nails, so The Governor takes to Maggie in an attempt to do the same. Back in prison, an injured Michonne is brought inside and quickly reveals that Maggie and Glenn have been taken. Before the episode closed, both parties would know the location of the other. In other words, this is what we’ve all been waiting for all this time, and shit is about to hit the fan.

Tonight’s episode of course, serves as the midseason finale. After this evening, we won’t see a new The Walking Dead until February 10th. After how fantastic this season has turned out so far, it’s going to be a long wait.

Let’s get to it! As always, there are plenty of spoilers below, so don’t read until you’ve watched!

Episode Thoughts – ‘Made To Suffer’

February can’t come soon enough.

Made To Suffer opens with an awesome moment that we’ve all been waiting for since The Walking Dead premiered: Tyreese. It was first revealed just a few weeks ago that the character would be making his way into the AMC series, and Chad Coleman does not disappoint. Based on the source material, Tyreese is bound to introduce plenty of intriguing twists and turns. Let’s just hope he fares better than his paper counterpart!

He’s here everyone, he’s finally here.

Tyreese and his group look like they’re in some big trouble. They’re tired, and there are walkers everywhere. One of their own is bitten just a few minutes into the chapter, and we know then that these folks know even less about what’s going on than Rick and the gang: their group member is bitten on the arm, yet no effort is made to remove said arm, which could have easily saved her life!

Tyreese and friends turn out to be faster than the walkers, and just before the opening credits roll they make their way into the back entrance of the prison. YES!

Again, Tyreese is home!

Back in Woodbury, The Governor is as creepy and misrepresented as always. He begins with a quick romantic exchange with the unknowing Andrea, but once she leaves it’s time to give Penny a visit. Remember Penny? That’s his zombie daughter that he heartbreakingly keeps alive undead incase things start looking up in the future (whether the walkers begin to remember their old selves, or a cure for the infection is found). When Penny doesn’t reciprocate Governor’s loving gestures, he puts her back in her cage without feeding her. That’ll teach her.

I wish that Woodbury was a boat so I could make a LOST reference here.

Everyone’s favourite couple, Glenn and Maggie, are still (unsurprisingly) being held captive somewhere in Woodbury. Understandably, they’re not happy about it: Glenn decides that it’s time to do something about it, and in a short, but gag worthy scene he rips off a walkers arm (the same one he had to kill last episode), and fashions it into a shank. Sick, yet effective.

Not the type of Bone Glenn usually gives to Maggie, but more fitting for the scenario.

Just outside the Woodbury walls, Rick, Daryl, Oscar, and Michonne make a plan to get inside. Michonne is more familiar with the layout of the town, and as Rick and Daryl plan an all out assault, she instead leads them through a back entrance: much sneakier, much quieter.

As this conspires outside, Merle and Governor plan to take the prison: they’ll surrender, and as Rick and friends lower their guns, all of them will be killed (rehashing the same tactic they used on the National Guard). I’m sure they know full well too that the prison camp is full of children, they just don’t care.

“let’s just shoot everyone”

Back at the Prison camp, Axel (who it turns out didn’t go on the rescue mission) reveals that he’s just a little bit creepy (or maybe just really lonely): when Beth reveals her age (17), he seems just a little too interested. Carol pulls him aside and he explains that the only reason he didn’t hit on her, was because he thought she was a lesbian! I chuckled here, it was a hilarious anomaly in an otherwise very extreme episode.

Just as Glenn and Maggie are about to be executed, our rescue team bursts in with smoke grenades and guns blazing. Woodbury is sent into a panic, as they’re used to only peace and tranquility in the town, and most have no clue what Governor Phillip is actually like. He spins the rescue mission into being an attack by terrorists, who simply want the peace and happiness that the townspeople have. What a dick.

Daryl of course has no idea, but he’s pointing a gun at his long lost brother.

The last half of the episode spends its majority following the rescue team on their attempt to escape the now-aware town. Everyone wants these ‘terrorists’ dead, and they’re going to do whatever they can to make it a reality. Of course, these are townspeople and not trained militants, and as we witnessed a few episodes ago, can’t aim worth shit. We end up spending a rather large chunk of the episode watching people not shoot anyone. It seems as though our lovable Oscar is one of the very few who actually took a bullet, and as I predicted last week, instantly succumbed to the injury.

Sorry Oscar. I was rooting for you buddy.

Michonne breaks herself off from the group to go confront the Governor (remember, she had to leave Woodbury because she learned too much about the man and his true nature). She arrives at his home, and while waiting for him to return finds his zombified daughter. Just as she’s about to put an end to Penny’s suffering, Governor arrives and the two duke it out in the midst of Phillip’s walker-head fishtanks (after Michonne puts a sword through Penny’s head of course). Phillip ends the encounter with the brunt of the injury, as he takes a rather large shard of glass to the eye (cue eypatch!). Andrea hears the commotion, and is the only reason that Michonne didn’t kill The Governor then and there. Michonne leaves and eventually rejoins the others (who unusually, don’t really ask about her obvious injuries).

That’s going to leave a mark.

Back at the prison Carl takes charge, and runs to the aid of Tyreese’s group upon hearing them calling for help. He leads them to a separate block, where he intelligently locks them in, not ready to immediately trust these unknown survivors. I wonder how long it’ll be before they merge? Rick’s gang is beginning to get rather sparse!

The final scene of the episode reveals a very neat twist, and shows just how quickly someone like the Governor will turn on one of his own. The battle is over, and Woodbury needs someone to blame it on. Turns out that Merle will be our fall guy. The governor spins a tale of betrayal to the angry crowd: Merle was working with the terrorists all along, he let them in, and one of them is his own brother! A hooded Daryl is then brought out and revealed. When the Governor asks what should be done with the traitor and his terrorist sibling, the most extreme answer is also the only answer heard from the crowd: kill them. Cut to black.

Even Andrea was surprised by that twist.

How did you feel about Made to Suffer? I’ve read some mixed reports on twitter: people saying that it was a mediocre end to an otherwise great half-season, to people stating that it was the best ~42 minutes of television ever produced. I’m obviously not on either side of those extremes, but I’m interested in hearing what people thought of the finale.

The episode was intense and extreme, just as we’ve come to expect this season, and just as we anticipated for the episode. The introduction of Tyreese was borderline perfect. As I mentioned above, Chad Coleman looks fantastic in the part, and seeing him swinging that hammer within seconds of the episode opening was both a great first impression, and an awesome beginning to this midseason finale.

I was impressed with most of what the episode offered: things like Michonne’s battle with Governor and Carol telling off Axel were great, but there were a few scenes that felt as though they dragged on simply too long. A good few of the scenes in Woodbury felt like this, specifically the battle in the town: smoke grenades meant that we were essentially watching people yelling at fog, and though I heard lots (and lots) of shooting, none of it really went anywhere!

Just a few shortfalls however, doesn’t really do much to detriment the episode. From the moment it opened to the second it closed, it was an intense, extreme and surprising romp through the town of Woodbury (with some brief and affective moments inside our favourite prison). The cliffhanger at the end was a fantastic one, and it’s going to be a long 2 months before we finally get to see what pans out!

Of course, AMC didn’t leave us completely hanging. As always, the episode ended with a short peek at what comes next. It’s just too bad that what comes next isn’t until February. Here’s a preview of Season 3, Episode 9 – The Suicide King.

 Comic Comparison

Overall, Made to Suffer is a tough episode to compare to Kirman/Adlard’s work. As I’ve mentioned before, we’ve seen substantially more of Woodbury here than we ever did on paper, and this is a good thing. I’ve been loving the town and almost every second that we’ve been able to spend there: Woodbury could honestly get its own spinoff, and it would be more popular than a lot of other currently airing shows!

However, there are a few key scenes that we can directly compare. First would be the very opening scene of the episode, the much anticipated introduction of Tyreese. AMC had his group running through the forest in search of shelter before finally stumbling upon the inhabited prison. On paper things went much differently: Tyreese, his daughter, and her boyfriend were all introduced way back on the snowy pages of issue 7. The two groups simply came across each other on the road, and almost instantaneously merged together. Tyreese was already a well established member of the group when the prison was discovered, and would be there until the day Rick and friends were forced to leave. In the show, Rick of course has just left Woodbury, so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to Tyreese’s group upon returning to the prison.

Another big difference between each version is the loss of the Governor’s eye. Both media have the event take place in an interaction with Michonne, but the context and reasoning for each is much different. On paper, it’s revenge. As I’ve mentioned in previous iterations, The Governor spent nearly a week brutally raping and torturing Michonne in an attempt to learn the location of the prison. Upon escaping, she (understandably) feels the need to teach him a lesson. She goes to his home and knocks him out, and when he wakes up, she begins the fun. First, she nails his genitals to a board, ensuring that he won’t be quick to move. She then proceeds to drill into his arm. Just when he thought it couldn’t get any worse, she uses pliers to rip multiple fingernails out before slicing off his arm and digging his eye out with a spoon. Sick.

Of course, the TV version was much more tame. Michonne received no torture, so there was not really any basis for revenge. She simply stabbed him in the eye with glass as a means to escape the situation (in which she may have otherwise ended up dead). The scene was still intense on TV, but there was no doubt in my mind that it wouldn’t have been able to top the comic book.

Those were the only really comparable sequences here. The comic has an escape happen from within Woodbury (which turns out to be staged), while the show had a group come to the rescue (which of course was the basis for this episode). Each was unique, and each was uniquely good in its own way.

For those of you that have been following this past eight weeks, thanks! I’d love to hear any feedback you may come up with during this long Winter break. Of course when the show returns, so will I for eight more iterations of Walking Dead Weekly! If the zombie apocalypse happens while I’m gone, remember to double tap!

Happy holidays!
