‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is here and obviously by now you’ve all seen it (and if not, this episode is almost ALL SPOILERS)! So that means it’s time for Ian Kerner to swoop in like Mary Poppins and talk about every detail of Marvel’s latest! Does the second time around match up to our love for the first film? How does Guardians 2 tie into the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Who were those Ravagers at the beginning of the film and what is the history of the ORIGINAL Guardians of the Galaxy? What can we expect from Volumes 3 and 4? Which Easter Eggs did you miss? And of course much, much more!

James Gunn’s new film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2,” opening this weekend, brings back everything good we loved about the first one, and then some.

What’s on most people’s minds who are intending to see GOTGVol2 is if it will be as good as the first one.

Let’s face it, that’s a tall order to fill for writer/director James Gunn and the other ten people who share the writing credit for this sequel (seriously, ten people).

The first film pretty much embodied near perfection and landed on many top ten lists for fans and critics alike in 2014. Gunn proved he was adept at instilling a retro feel mixed with space opera camp and fans ate it up.

“Volume 2” continues the story with the theme of talented misfits doing their best to one-up each other as they help Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) discover his origins. Gunn recaptures a lot of what made the first film so memorable and injects it into a new story that elaborates on the main characters and adds a few news ones.

Not a lot of time has gone by since the first story ended. Peter Quill is pretty happy with his reputation as Star Lord; The sort-of human from Terra who saved the Galaxy alongside his team. However, when he gets the opportunity to get to know his biological dad, Ego (Kurt Russell), he starts thinking about what he might have missed out on as a kid. That dynamic between father and son is part of the emotional narrative of the film.

In this outing, GOTGVol2 focuses more on the dynamic between the characters as we get to know more about why they do what they do, especially Yondu (Michael Rooker), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and new character Mantis (Pom Klementieff).

Like the first film, every character gets their moment, especially baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) who captures the big screen in several comedic scenes that will probably be many people’s favorite part. However, the film has so many solid characters that not one really stands above another, a true ensemble.

A notable performance from the versatile Michael Rooker as space pirate/ Ravager “Yondu” is a stand out amongst a fine cast, including a small role for Sylvester Stallone and Jeff Goldblum who seem headed for more in the Marvel Universe.

In a film of mostly positive there are a few negatives including the strange accent that Klementieff used for Mantis. Reminiscent of an Asian American speaking English with a heavy Asian accent. The film has a lot going on, including a ton of Easter Eggs, but at times almost seems a little bloated but it’s hard to fault the sequel because it moves along quite fast except the third act feels just a tad too long. All in all, these are nit picky compared to the overall quality of the film.

You may recall that the soundtrack “Volume 1” was almost like a character unto itself in the first film, and was a big part of Quill’s motivation. “Volume 2” nearly achieves that same vibe in this film however it seems Gunn might have chosen to put slightly less emphasis on music in order to focus the narrative a bit more on character interaction and smartly so.

Sequels tend to focus too much on being exactly like the first. Gunn is astutely aware of that and has created a follow up that embodies the essence of the first while creating enough of it’s own narrative to be on nearly equal ground. There is a bit of a lag in act 3, and visually a heap of action that becomes almost dizzying in 3D, however the film lands lightly on its feet with just enough sentimental emotion to justify any slip. Easter Eggs abound and GOTGVol2 fits nicely into the Marvel Universe as did the first one.

Netflix digs deep into the Marvel library for their upcoming original series, The Defenders. The show sees a partnership between heroes Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) as they fight to take on enemies both on the battlefield and within themselves. Netflix published a trailer for The Defenders on Youtube yesterday, which can be watched just below this sentence.

https://youtu.be/4h3m7B4v6Zc

As you can see, while the show does have a tinge of angst, it also has some humor in it. That scarf comment about a minute and forty seconds into the video certainly made me laugh. I can imagine this will be a “dream show” for fans of these popular characters.

Marvel’s The Defenders launches on Netflix worldwide on August 18, 2017. Are you planning on tuning in?

After a surprise reveal last year at PSX 2016, Capcom has remained pretty hush hush on Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite.

Today, we finally got a bit more info on what will be going on in the game. Turns out the story mode is completely ridiculous but amazing. All you need to know is that Ultron and Sigma team up and fuse together to create Ultron Sigma, and now both Capcom and Marvel heroes must join together to take him down. The trailer introduces a couple of new roster characters such as Strider, Hulk, Thor, Chun Li, Chris Redfield, and more! The trailer even ends with a release date of September 19th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Of course you can’t just have a regular trailer. With Capcom being Capcom, old habits die hard as the final shot of the trailer advertises and incentives buying the Deluxe Edition of the game which includes 6 premium costumes and DLC characters including Sigma as a playable character. The fact that they probably already have those 6 characters made  and are purposely keeping them hostage as DLC overall ends up putting a slightly sour taste in my mouth as I’m sure that’s going to be how they compromise not having Wolverine in the initial roster. Nonetheless, are you excited for this game? What character do you want to see included? Tell us in the comments below!

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 heading to theaters on May 5 and whispers of a third movie making the rounds, it was only a matter of time before stores started stocking themed merchandise. Of course, as a plush enthusiast, I was thrilled to see that Build-A-Bear Workshop joined in on the fun. The Marvel series has an entire section over on the store’s online site.

The two buildable plushes in the set are Rocket Raccoon and Groot (more on him in a bit). For Rocket, you can purchase him “naked” ($25.50) and then add on his traditional costume ($12.50) and Baby Groot accessory ($6), both shown above.

You can only purchase Groot through an online-exclusive set ($35). The bundle includes the plush himself and a soundbox that plays the character’s signature phrase, “I am Groot.” The set is a tad simpler than most of the other ones you see on the site but the lower price tag reflects the lack of clothing or other accessories.

The fun doesn’t stop with Rocket and Groot, though. There are outfits for other plushes, like the Star-Lord and Gamora costumes. If you have a hankering for some smaller collectibles, Build-a-Bear also has a set of Guardians of the Galaxy Mega Minis ($10 each), eight-inch plush bears dressed as Star-Lord, Rocket, Draxx, Groot, and Gamora.

Are you excited for these new plushes?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hasn’t even hit theatres yet , and James Gunn has already confirmed that he will be writing and directing Volume 3. In a Facebook post, Gunn said

In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula – and some of the other forthcoming heroes – goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.”

The passion and dedication Gunn shows towards this project is why I believe the first movie did so well, and I’m excited to see how well Gunn lives up to the high expectations set forth by fans.

We also got a sneak peek at when the next Guardians installment will fit into the Marvel timeline:

“Much of what’s happened in the MCU for the past ten or so years has been leading, in a big way, to the Avengers’ Infinity War. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen after all that. It will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond. I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.”

More Marvel storylines? The next ten years? Yes please!
What are your thoughts on James Gunn continuing his take on Guardians of the Galaxy? Let us know!

This is a story all about how Thor’s life got twist-turned upside down. All joking aside, the teaser trailer for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok looks fabulous. Take a gander below and we will discuss after. Don’t worry; I can wait.

Wow, right? For starters, despite the darker tone (not counting the bright color scheme in some of the costumes) the humor we expect from Marvel superhero movies seems to remain intact. So surprise numero uno would be Thor’s loss of his mighty hammer, Mjölnir. The inclusion of The Incredible Hulk was also a bit of a shocker given that this was not an Avengers film. Who else can we expect to see, I wonder?

I am curious about how they are going to explain the presence of the film’s baddie, Hela (also known as Hel in some Norse works). According to Norse myhtology, she is a daughter of Loki. Will they alter that piece of her background in the film?

This trailer has raised plenty of questions and certainly has piqued my interest in the film. What was your impression?

Spider-man: Homecoming definitely looks like it’s going to be worth watching this summer.

I’ve been interested to see what Marvel was going to do with the Spiderman story after his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. The scenes with the young Spidey were hilarious as he switched between fangirling over the fact that he was SO CLOSE to the Avengers while simultaneously fighting them.

I’ve never seen a Spiderman movie that I actually liked. I always thought the Peter Parker they portrayed would be more likely to become a stalker or serial killer than a superhero. But Tom Holland comes across more as a cute, quirky, nerdy guy who just wants to become an Avenger. I also like the addition of Tony Stark (obviously played by Robert Downey Jr.) as a sort of surrogate uncle/mentor figure (although, I could just be happy to see RDJ on screen, and who can blame me?).
What do you think of this latest Spiderman reboot? Watch the trailer and tell us in the comments!

Briefly: Thor sure looks… different.

Ahead of the film’s release this November, EW has just let loose the very first batch of official images form the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. Yeah, we knew that Hemsworth would be getting a new look, but it’s crazy how much a new ‘do can affect one’s image. I barely even recognize the Odinson here.

Hopefully we’ll see some actual footage sometime soon, but for now, take a look at the images below, and be sure to let us know which Marvel flick you’re most excited for this year (it’s Guardians, isn’t it)! Thor: Ragnarok hits theatres on November 3rd.

The podcast is back… and so is Ian Kerner! ‘Logan’ marks Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart’s final outing as the characters that helped kickstart the X-Men film franchise 17 years ago. But is it a fitting end to these characters? Is ‘Logan’ as great as everyone is telling you? Is this really the end? When will we see X-23 again? And what does this mean for the future of the X-Men movie universe? Listen up as we slice and dice ‘Logan’!

Briefly: Up to this point, I wasn’t fully convinced that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would be able to live up to the hilarity and unexpected charm of the phenomenal first film.

Then this new full trailer debuted on tonight’s Jimmy Kimmel live, and any fears I had about the film were put to rest. This is the same gang, with the same incredible chemistry, the same dumb one-liners, and an even more adorable Groot.

Seriously, this trailer had me laughing more than most dedicated comedies. I can’t wait to get in line for this one.

You can take a look at the incredible trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theatres on May 5th.

What we originally thought would be a shoe in role for Vin Diesel is no more. Marvel has found their Black Bolt for the Inhumans TV Series.

Anson Mount, known for his role as Cullen Bohannon on AMC’s Hell on Wheels.  For those not aware of what’s happening with Inhumans still, here’s a quick rundown. Marvel will release a TV Series based off Inhumans this Fall. The first 2 episodes will be released in limited release in IMAX this September, and will then continue on ABC. Are you interested in this series? Who would you have casted as Black Bolt? Tell us in the comments below!

That’s right! Even though we’re still over a year out from the end of Phase 3, Marvel has already begun filming on Avengers: Infinity War!

To celebrate, the studio has released a teaser online featuring Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, and Chris Pratt talking about the start of filming the movie. They talk about how The Avengers will finally team up with The Guardians to face off against Thanos. Kevin Feige also talks about how Thanos won’t be like previous Marvel movie villains, as he will actually pose as a major threat. The video ends with a short clip of the infinity gauntlet being revealed. Check out the video for more below!

For those impatient, just think of it this way. We only have 3 more films until Infinity War. You can wait 3 more films right? No? Me too, but we really have no other choice. Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4th, 2018. Are you excited for the film? What upcoming phase 3 film are you most looking forward to? Tell us in the comments below!

We’re just about 5 weeks out from Netflix’s Iron Fist series, and to celebrate, Netflix themselves have finally dropped an official trailer for us to tide us over until the big day arrives.

There’s nothing amazingly stand out here, but the trailer does do a good job conveying the tone of the series and setting the mood. Iron Fist will be the 4th Marvel Netflix show out of the current 6 planned. Check out the trailer for yourself below. Are you excited for Iron Fist? What’s your favorite Marvel Netflix show? This morning Square Enix and Marvel surprised people by announcing a multi video game partnership with their companies.

That’s right, this deal not only covers one, but multiple MCU video games  headed up by Square. The first of these projects was announced this morning. Simply titled, The Avengers Project, not much is known about this trailer aside from the team apparently having been split apart and now having to reunite them. I say apparently because the trailer really isn’t that good. I mean, say what you want about DC’s films, but they do know how to make some pretty great games and trailers (Example: Batman Arkham series, and Injustice.).

What’s worse is that we apparently won’t be finding out any new info on these games until 2018. Really? Not even E3? Seems a bit premature to be announcing this, doesn’t it? Nevertheless, we all remain excited to see what a company like Square has planned for our favorite superheroes. What kind of MCU games would you like to see? Tell us in the comments below!

Hot on the heels of Monday’s plot reveal; we have ourselves something truly incredible. Check out the latest trailer for Logan.

Personally I wasn’t totally on board with Logan. The first teaser trailer didn’t do it for me. It just felt like another X-Men movie, but with the added emotional hostage taking of Johnny Cash’s Hurt. Today’s trailer put me in the boots of Wolverine. I got invested in the characters, and for a trailer to do that means this film should be on point.

Logan is directed by James Mangold and stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen.

Catch it in theaters March 3rd.

Well known Marvel and D.C. comic artist, Drew Geraci, has just release his second fictional book, “The Demands Book 2: The B-Sides.” It picks up not long after the first, with resilient and sharp-witted Laney Kilburn who has even bigger plans for her band, The Demands. Getting in the way of those plans is the Russian mob and their new boss who’s out to get them.

Drew has worked on most of the big titles from Marvel and D.C. over the past 25 years including The Avengers, Stars Wars, and more. His artistic work has been featured on movie posters like “Guardians of the Galaxy” to everyday items you might find at the store with images of characters from The Avengers he drew years and years ago. He got the itch a year ago to try his hand on the keyboard rather than the inkwell stylus with his first book “The Demands” which immediately found success on Amazon with a 4 ½ stars out of 5 from readers.

Allie Hanley: You’ve written some really colorful characters in your second book “The B-Sides” of “The Demands” about a band that wants to make it big. Who’s your favorite character and why do you like to write them?

Drew Geraci: Cricket, a new character introduced halfway through Book Two. She’s pure id, with no filter and says the most inappropriate things at times. She talks to ghosts, wears thrift-store chic, very bohemian. She meets Laney at a club, recognizes her as a member of The Demands, and blathers until Laney goes from feeling very annoyed to amused. Hence, they become besties. Cricket’s easy to write because I can go astray with free-form association, but I keep her grounded enough that she’s not one-dimensional comedic relief.

AH: Laney Kilburn is a wise cracking, take no shit kind of woman. Where did you come up with her and why did you opt to have this character be female?

DG: When I came up with The Demands, Mitch was going to be the main character. Same background and ‘voice’, as me. As I kept writing, I came up with more interesting things for the ‘token’ female, a clean slate. I made her a tomboy who played football as a kid. But she was an army brat who moved a lot and she grew up withdrawn as a result. She wasn’t popular in any of the schools and was considered the weird girl who carried her guitar around everywhere.

Compared to other classmates, she thought herself ugly and mousey. She loved playing guitar as an emotional outlet. Skipping college, she stagnated for a time until, out of the blue, at 22, she moved away on her own from Laurel, Maryland, to Pittsburgh, PA. This where she’d read about the local music scene. Then she gets a crash course of grown-up lessons. I physically based Laney as the grunge, blonde twin of Kate Micucci (of Garfunkle & Oates). Short but scrappy when cornered. Forming The Demands was a welcome reset button on her life.

AH: It’s unusual to read a story about a struggling band and the back door dealings, why did you want to tell this story?

DG: The impetus came from my disgust over the current music landscape of prepackaged, formulaic dance songs and pop ballads sung by beautiful people. To break big through this omnipresent sound with an aggro guitar-heavy sound is nigh-impossible in this era. Add the mobster element, and The Demands have a herculean task to make their act national. But they have the conceit of youth to keep pushing against all odds.

AH: What’s in the future for “The Demands?”

DG: The band and the mob will find their lives intertwined. Once it’s rumored that The Demands performed at mobbed-up clubs, they’re considered guilty by association, which gives The Demands street cred and a large following in Pittsburgh. Both parties have some damning secrets about the other, but if either side acts on it, most likely they will all end up in federal prison; And the band has to make deals with the devil (not literally) on more than one occasion to stay one step ahead of the mob.

AH: You are a working artist for some of the top names in Pop Culture, like Marvel and Star Wars. What are you working on right now.

DG: I’ve been doing some web comics for Marvel lately and I enjoy it since it’s uncharted territory for me. I do plenty of art commissions. Also, I’m 10K into The Demands Book Three: Standing Room Only.

AH: Where’s the weirdest place you came across a piece of your artwork?

DG: Avengers art I did showed up at a Sears Tire Center when I went to get my tires balanced. On a sunscreen reflector (that you put on your car’s dash in the Summer). It was by the motor oil and wiper blades!

AH: What plans do you have to do signings for you book and artwork for 2017.

DG: That’s still in the planning stage. Earlier this year, I did a library book signing and a Q&A with other new authors. I’m currently wracking my brain about guerrilla tactics, thinking outside the box. So much competition, no matter your merit, your work still has to be seen by a larger audience. But, having announced that Book Three is forthcoming, I’m not ready to give up any time soon. I’ve been told by quite a few experts that I’d make a lot more money if I did a steamy 50 Shades of Grey sex story, but that’s not my scene.

AH: Where’s the best place to buy your book?

DG:I now have an Amazon page which includes kindle and paperback of both Demands books, plus many of the comics collections I’ve worked on all these years.

Drew’s second book currently has a 5 out 5 rating on Amazon. Click here for a link to learn more.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Batman himself Michael Keaton will be joining the cast of Spider-Man Homecoming as a mystery character.

Rumor had it that Keaton would be playing spidey’s arch enemy The Vulture.  While there was still some speculation and hesitation around it, MCU head honcho Kevin Feige has confirmed the news himself.

In a Doctor Strange interview with The Toronto Sun, the publication asked him what cool things fans can expect in future films, and Feige dropped the bomb that Keaton’s vulture will be a fan favorite. What do you think of Michael Keaton as the vulture? Are you still excited for the film? Tell us in the comments below!

Marvel one-ups itself again with spellbinding visuals and a stunning performance from Benedict Cumberbatch as “Doctor Strange.” That’s hard to do considering the company that the film joins, but with the driving force of director Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us From Evil) his film surely deserves a spot within the top seven films in the Marvel Universe (MU).

Considering that “Doctor Strange” is mostly a B-level character it comes to no surprise that Marvel is able to mold the mythos into a worthy film. Some keep waiting for the so-called super hero fatigue to hit but with Marvel leading the way with quality films that are balanced, well-written, and containing worthy characters, it just seems to not be happening.

Some may have thought “Doctor Strange” was possibly going to be a miss for Disney. However, the film easily impresses with a solid story as it follows a similar pattern of intrigue, witty humor, action packed visuals, alongside thoughtful and smart casting that Marvel just keeps repeating.

The choice of going with a B-level character is a smart move for Marvel as “Doctor Strange” offers a new level of ability that the others such as Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk do not share (despite the Scarlet Witch).

Strange gets his powers from magic. His talent stems from his photographic memory that allows him to learn effectively from ancient books of magic and gives him the ability to perform complicated spells that harness mystical energies and forces that are unseen to the regular people. His character fits well into the universe as something different as he is able to do things and go places the other characters in the MU cannot. That appeal is part of why this character sucessfully avoids the fatigue mentioned already; and of course the superior directing and acting too.

It’s all to easy to say Benedict Cumberbatch is the definitive driving force of the film and many will. However, the entire cast was perfectly realized. Despite the rumblings from the peanut gallery on Tilda Swinton’s casting as The Ancient One, there is no one who could have played the role better. She’s just the right amount of other worldliness and at the same time human, creating this ethereal being that can wield power and empathy equally. Her performance takes me back to her character “Mason” in the equally trippy film “Snowpiercer” where despite her small role, it contributed vastly.

In a film with Cumberbatch and Swinton it’s easy to maybe pass up on Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays Mordor. He’s a mentor to Dr. Steven Strange and even makes a case to the Ancient One as to why Strange should be allowed to learn from them. If you are familiar with the comic or cartoon then you know his destiny and I won’t spoil it. Let’s just say that his ability to portray characters with great range will create a wonderful dynamic down the line in the next film.

Also, easily dismiss-able in super hero flicks is the love interest. In the original “Thor” movie with Natalie Portman cast as the love-interest, her character was just a non-entity. She didn’t bring chemistry nor much humor with the two dimensional character she played (in both films). On the flip-side “Strange” cast Rachel McAdams, who gets some great screen time where her character is allowed to play a wide range of emotions. She’s funny in the right places, sad, hurt, excited and the character feels a lot more real when compared to some other equally good Marvel films with weaker love interests. It was smart this time out to make sure this small character was not written as flat. The character’s ability to recognize the changes in Steven Strange help the audience define how he evolves as a person. This creates more gravitas for the story and the growth of the Strange character <which is important in an origin story>.

There’s more. There’s the villain, Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius. He’s the Ancient One’s traitorous former disciple. Is there any role Mikkelsen can’t shine in? For a equally trippy ride see him in “Men & Chicken.”

Marvel once again delivers on a solid super hero film making sure to include just the right amount of humor and action alongside a story that resonates with superb acting. The visuals alone make the film worth seeing in 3-D and even IMAX. Early prediction is that the film will more than likely require repeat viewings not only in the theater but in Blu-Ray ownership down the line. “Doctor Strange” is highly entertaining and a must-see in the theater.

The Final Verdict: 4 out of 5!

It’s that wonderful time of the week again, new comic book day! Choosing what to read can be daunting (and expensive!). Don’t worry though, Geekscape has you covered. Each week we give our best bet for a comic book that you’re sure to enjoy. Let’s get into it.

Unprecedented in the history of Best Bets, there is no issue in particular that I’m most excited for or think is worthy of being a best bet. This week it is all honourable mentions. Is that even the right phrase when there is no true winner? How about the Most Exciting of the Not Most Exciting? I don’t know. Enough of that, let’s talk this week’s comics!

When Champions debuted, I discussed how I believe Marvel replacing their tried and true super heroes in their comic books with new ones is a bad idea. Despite Champions arguably being the flag bearer of that movement, I gave the book a chance. It’s written by Mark Waid after all. While I wouldn’t put it in the same category as his work on Daredevil, Black Widow, Archie, etc. it still stuck it’s claws deep enough in me that I’ll be coming back for issue #2 today.

Speaking of tried and true, the original God of Thunder is back this week in The Unworthy Thor!

The Odinson’s desperate search to regain his worthiness has taken him out into the cosmos, where he’s learned of the existence of a mysterious other Mjolnir. This weapon of unimaginable power, a relic from a dead universe, is the key to Odinson’s redemption — but some of the greatest villains of the Marvel Universe are now anxious to get their hands on it as well. Can The Odinson reclaim his honor, or will the power of thunder be wielded for evil? The quest for the hammer begins here.

Helmed by the great creative team of Jason Aaron and Olivier Coipel, this book is probably going to be good, just not enough for me to pull the trigger on it being a best bet.

How about a little DC love too?

Superman #10
📝 Patrick Gleason, Peter J. Tomasi
🎨 Patrick Gleason

Coming off the conclusion of the awesome two-parter Return to Dino Island, I’m hoping Superman can continue to gather steam. Tomasi has been doing a great job exploring the father son relationship, and now it looks like we might see another father/son combination join the action. Also, the Watchmen references have been happening consistently in this series so hopefully it will continue to unveil how these worlds mix!

Edit: So yeah, Avengers #1 is a thing too. By Mark Waid and Mike Del Mundo and a gorgeous cover by Alex Ross.

Before anything, watch first.

Okay, now that you’ve seen it once or twice, may three or four times, what did you think? Does it look like a normal Marvel movie? It has the action, it has the characters – it’s going to be interesting. With little story detail attached, we can gain this – a girl, who is a mutant, will become what Logan is to Professor X. In a way, it looks like this movie will be passing the torch onto a new set of mutants, which is going to be awesome.

‘Logan’ is set to hit theaters March 3rd, 2017.

Sound off below on what you guys think.

I usually like to build up to the whole “take a look a the trailer” thing but this one for Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is so good it needs no introduction.

You watched it, right? Good. So now for the summary part. This video admittedly doesn’t tip its hand in terms of plot but that is forgivable given that it is merely a sneak trailer rather than a full one. What we do see is the same humor and heart that made the original Guardians of the Galaxy so great. And come on, who didn’t miss that soundtrack?

There is clearly some romantic conflict between Peter Quill (although he prefers to known as Star-Lord) and Gamora. We also see snippets of Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Yandu, Nebula, and Baby Groot (who is adorable, by the way!). According to ComicBook.com, the film will follow the group’s journey to learn the truth about Peter’s father. There seems to be a focus on the concept of “family” with Gamora’s sister, Nebula, adding additional issues (the whole trying-to-kill-them thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.

Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television, moderated the NYCC panel Marvel and Netflix and was packed with surprise appearances and announcements. Is started off with the cast of ‘Iron Fist’ making an appearance to introduce the teaser trailer.  Surprise guests included an appearance by Erik LaRay Harvey (Diamondback), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/The Punisher), and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), which it was announced that she will be joining the cast of ‘The Punisher’.

The end of the very end of the panel featured the biggest surprise of the night when the main cast of the ‘The Defenders’ united on stage for the first time. Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) , Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and from joined Finn Jones (Danny Rand).

There was one more surprise guest, Sigourney Weaver (Avatar and Aliens), and it was revealed that she would be playing the villain of the series. There was no announcement of who she would actually be portraying. There is no doubt that the Hand will be a force to reckon with, so maybe she will be a part of the clan.

Netflix has set Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) as showrunner on The Punisher’, with Jim Chory and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb as executive producers.

‘The Punisher’ has already begun the early stages of production, though the series is not expected to premiere until at least 2018 after Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist’ and the crossover Defenders’ series have taken their bow.

Champions #1
📝 Mark Waid
🎨 Humberto Ramos

Following the fallout of CIVIL WAR II, Avengers Ms. Marvel, Nova and Spider-Man strike out on their own — joined by Cyclops, Viv Vision and the Totally Awesome Hulk! Six young heroes determined to change the world — and they’re only the beginning!

This title has me torn, but I’m giving the benefit of the doubt to the creative team. I have been saying since the spring that Marvel is sinking it’s own ship, and I disagree with the what the company is doing with their characters. That said, I’m willing to give Marvel NOW a try. Currently, I can’t find a book with Waid’s name on it that isn’t amazing so hopefully that trend will continue with Champions. Despite all my doubts over Marvel, I think it’ll be refreshing to get into the post-Civil War II Marvel Universe, and Waid is just the man to take us there.

Honorable Mentions

Gerard Way’s Young Animal imprint latest title Shade, the Changing Girl #1 is out, Jessica Jones #1, Eclipse #2 (the first issue was a best bet a few weeks back), Superman returns to Dinosaur Island, and of course Before Dead No More continues with Amazing Spider-Man #19.

The God of Whispers has spread an omnipresent paranoia to every corner of the kingdom of Zhal; his spies hide in every hall spreading mistrust and fear. Adam Osidis, a dying knight from a disgraced house, must choose between joining a hopeless band of magic users in their desperate bid to free their world of the evil God, or accepting his promise to give Adam everything his heart desires. Writer RICK REMENDER reteams with collaborators JEROME OPEÑA (Uncanny X-Force, Fear Agent) and MATT HOLLINGSWORTH (TOKYO GHOST, WYTCHES) to take you on a hard road through the strange fantasy world of Zhal. All men have surrendered their freedom for fear. Now, one last free man must choose.

When Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña work together, only one thing can happen; the creation of awesome stories! Love the concept, love the creative team, this book is going to push the boundaries of what I expect to see in a comic book.

Amazing Spider-Man #18
$3.99
Writer: Dan Slott
Artist: Giuseppe Camuncoli

BEFORE “DEAD NO MORE” marches you closer to the Spider-Event of 2016…THE MOMENT YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR HAS COME! Doc Ock has been trapped in the body of The Living Brain since the first issue, but now it’s time for him to act!

FINALLY! Doc Ock is coming back! We saw a bit of a lull in the early teen issues of Amazing Spider-Man but now it’s full steam ahead as we rapidly approach this fall’s big Dead No More event. I’ve been saying it for awhile now, issue #16 is a great jumping on point for this series. Jump on it, you can be sure you’ll want to be reading it this fall.

Honourable Mentions

DC’s first crossover event begins this week. “Night of the Monster Men” will span across Batman #7, Nightwing #5, and Detective Comics #941. All three of these books have been stellar on their own so I imagine the crossover is going to be great. There have been some unexpected twists in the other Bat books so I think it’s safe to expected the unexpected with this event.
