Briefly: This could be the game that has me buying an Xbox One.

EA has just announced the release date for the highly anticipated Plants vs. ZombiesGarden Warfare, which was first shown off at E3. The game is an action-packed third-person multiplayer shooter that puts players in the shoes—or roots—of their favorite characters from the popular Plants vs. Zombies franchise.

I thought that the game sounded stupid when I first heard about it, but that first gameplay reveal ensured me that Garden Warfare would be glorious.

The game will launch on Xbox 360 and Xbox One on February 18th in North America, and February 20th in Europe. On the Xbox One, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare includes two extra modes including local cooperative split screen and Boss Mode. With split screen, players can team up with a friend on the couch to fight against an endless horde of zombies. In Boss Mode, gamers can utilize their Kinect or a SmartGlass device in any of the other gameplay modes to support their teams. Players have a top-down view of the battlefield and can help out their teammates with intel, health drops, revive stations and explosive artillery strikes.

Are you planning to pick this one up? Be sure to let us know!

Briefly: Developer Techland today launched a short new trailer for their Dead Island follow-up, Dying Light.

The game is a first-person, parkour based survival horror title, which pretty much sounds like the best idea everDying Light is looking pretty solid right now, and this newest video shows off a gorgeous city (and its beautiful lighting) that I simply can’t wait to run through.

Take a look at the new video below, and let us know what you think! Dying Light hits PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows in 2014.

Haven’t heard of the game? Here’s a neat, 12-minute gameplay walkthrough.

Briefly: This is incredible, and definitely worth a watch for Gravity fans (and who isn’t one).

Remember that intense scene in Gravity when Dr. Stone was finally able to make contact with Earth, but only to a man speaking in a foreign language? The conversation was a heartbreaking realization that Stone would never make it back down to Earth, and that this broken conversation would be the last that she would ever have. I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

Now, via THR, you can see the other side of the conversation. Alfonso’s son Jonas has directed a seven-minute short entitled Aningaaq, which showcases the opposite end of that haunting conversation. The short has been making festival rounds, will be included on the Gravity DVD/Blu-Ray, and is generating a good amount of Oscar buzz.

Here’s a great explanation of how the short came to be, straight from the original article:

The idea for Aningaaq, which follows an Inuit fisherman stationed on a remote fjord in Greenland, occurred to the Cuarons as they were working out the beats for the Gravity screenplay. “It’s this moment where the audience and the character get this hope that Ryan is finally going to be OK,” Jonas, 31, tells THR. “Then you realize that everything gets lost in translation.” Both Cuarons spent time in the glacial region (Alfonso once toyed with setting a movie there) and fell in love with the barren vastness of its frozen wilderness. During one of those visits, Alfonso met a drunken native who would become the basis for the title character, played by Greenland’s Orto Ignatiussen. But it wasn’t until Jonas, on a two-week trek gathering elements for his film, was inspired by the local inhabitants’ profound attachment to their sled dogs that he decided to incorporate that element into the plot.

The short was filmed “guerrilla style” on location on a budget of about $100,000 — most of which went toward the 10-person crew’s travel costs — and Cuaron completed it in time to meld the dialogue into Gravity’s final sound mix. The result is a seamless conversation between Aningaaq and Ryan, stranded 200 miles above him, the twin stories of isolated human survival providing thematic cohesion. Still, Jonas says he was careful “to make it a piece that could stand on its own.” Should both get Oscar noms, an interesting dynamic would emerge: Two films potentially could win for representing different sides of one conversation, to say nothing of having come from father and son.

Now, watch the short below, and let us know what you think! On that note, how much did you love Gravity?

Briefly: A new international trailer for next year’s Robocop has just debuted online.

The video delves deeper into the journey of Alex Murphy, and features plenty of footage that we haven’t seen yet. The remake stars The Killing lead Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy, who is, well, a cop that is fatally injured and is then turned into a robot.

Are you looking forward to the remake? Or could this be another Total Recall in disguise? Take a look at the newest trailer below, and let us know what you think! Robocop hits theatres on February 12th!

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Briefly: Disney has just released the first, hilarious theatrical trailer for next year’s Muppets Most Wanted.

Just as you’d expect, the trailer is freaking hilarious, and looks to be everything you’d expect from the Muppets sequel. The 2011 film was actually my first Muppets experience, and it remains one of the funniest films that I’ve seen in my entire life. As such, I couldn’t be more excited for this one.

Watch the film’s theatrical trailer below, and let us know what you think! Muppets Most Wanted hits theatres on March 21st, 2014!

Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais, creator of “Derek” and the Golden Globe®- and Emmy®-winning series “The Office” and “Extras.” The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” “Mean Girls,” “Date Night”) as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (TV’s “Modern Family”) as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.

Briefly: I need to get reading The Strain, especially now that the pilot has become a series!

That’s right. FX announced today that their adaptation of Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s The Strain has received a full series order. The 13-episode first season is set to begin production in Toronto this month, for a July premiere. The entire series is expected to span between 39 and 65 episodes.

The Strain is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The series stars Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland and Miguel Gomez. We’ll be sure to share more info as soon as it’s announced, as I can’t wait for this one!

Briefly: In a just-published interview with Edge MagazineIco, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian director Fumito Ueda talks about The Last Guardian, and what he’s been up to for the last eight years.

You’ll have to subscribe to Edge to read the whole interview, but in the excerpt that the magazine provide, Ueda states that:

more than anything I feel terribly sorry that for various reasons I have kept my audience waiting for such a long time.

Ueda also mentions that his creative input on the game is long over, and that the details of when, where, and how the game will be completed are out of his control.

I sure hope that completion comes sooner rather than later!

That trailer remains haunting to this day. Let us know how excited you are for The Last Guardian.

Briefly: This is pretty cool, and with the PS4 launching just a few days ago, and just a few more days until the launch of the Xbox One, it’s coming out at a perfect time.

What if the ‘Console War’ wasn’t metaphorical? What if it was Halo‘s Master Chief and Gods of War‘s Kratos battling for supremacy in a city street, armed with laser beams, guns, missiles and even mini-nuclear weapons. Sounds pretty great, right? Well, now you can watch how it would play out.

The video even features giant Playstation and Xbox mechs, and even a tiny Wii one (which is quickly and easily taken care of). It’s a pretty fun watch, and even has a neat ‘choose your own adventure’ element to it.

Take a look at The Console War below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Twitch streaming is coming to the Xbox One, but Microsoft has just revealed that it won’t be ready for launch:

We know the ability to instantly broadcast gameplay is something the gaming community is excited about, and we are too. We are working to ensure the initial Twitch on Xbox One broadcasting experience meets the expectations of the Twitch community, so while this feature won’t be available right away, we’ll let you know as soon as it is ready. Our goal is to deliver it during the first part of 2014.

If it’s a better product because of the delay, is a few months of waiting such a big deal? You will be using the service for, like, eight years, after all.

Microsoft also revealed some cool achievements for the service. Here’s what you’ll need to do to unlock them:

-Watch one hour of live video on Twitch to become a Newcomer

-Watch 10 hours of live video on Twitch for Competitive

-Watch 100 hours of live video on Twitch for Best Viewer

-Watch one hour of live video on Twitch channels that have less than 10 viewers to be the Hipster

-Watch 10 hours of live video on Twitch channels that have less than 10 viewers and become the Talent Scout

Max Bandwidth is received by watching a single channel on Twitch for more than eight hours consecutively

Around The Clock is exactly that, just watch at least one minute of live video on Twitch in each hour of a full day

Prime Time, simply: watch a total of 10 hours of live video on Twitch between peak viewing hours from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., on a weekday

Are you disappointed to hear that you won’t be streaming at launch, or is it not a big deal for you? Sound out below!

Briefly: This game looks incredible.

I wasn’t really a fan of the first Dead Rising title (great idea, but pretty poor execution in my opinion… it got boring really fast), and never actually had an opportunity to play Dead Rising 2. That being said, as soon as I get my hands on an Xbox One, Dead Rising 3 will be the game that goes with it.

Capcom today debuted the game’s launch trailer, and as expected, it looks great. Dead Rising 3 seems to be pulling in great reviews so far, so I really can’t wait to play it!

Take a look at the launch trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be picking up the game!

Briefly: What a world we live in.

Series can come back from the dead in an internet-only format, Marvel original series are coming to Netflix, and comic books are being adapted into online series. It’s crazy, it’s incredible, and it’s only going to get better.

Variety revealed today that Adrian Askarieh and Machinima are banding together to craft a pilot based on Image Comics’ Enormous. The book revolves around a cataclysmic ecological event that creates massive beasts that overrun human civilization and puts mankind at the bottom of the food chain, and it looks damn good.

Askarieh will produce the 10-minute pilot, which will later be adapted into a full series. Cost of Living director Ben David Grabinski will direct the short.

Have you read the graphic novel? Were you a fan? Be sure to let us know, and sound out if you’re looking forward to a series! The pilot is set to shoot in December, and we’ll be sure to share more info as soon as we hear it!

'Enormous' cover.

Briefly: I was always going to watch Dreamworks’ Need for Speed movie. After seeing the first teaser, it was simply because Aaron Paul was starring in it. After the film’s latest trailer however, I’ll be checking it out because it looks bad-ass.

Seriously, take a look at the trailer below, and tell me that it doesn’t look cool.

http://youtu.be/NqLsVh1tDS0

Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul, Dakota Johnson, Michael Keaton, Dominic Cooper, and plenty of others, and hits theatres on March 14th.

Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, DreamWorks Pictures’ “Need for Speed” captures the thrills of the game in a real-world setting. An exciting return to the great car-culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when authenticity brought a new level of intensity to the action, “Need for Speed” taps into what makes the American myth of the open road so enticing.

The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time—one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. In a last attempt to save his struggling garage, blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul)—who with his team skillfully builds and races muscle cars on the side—reluctantly partners with wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). Just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save the business, a disastrous, unsanctioned race results in Dino framing Tobey for manslaughter.

Two years later and fresh out of prison, Tobey is set on revenge with plans to take down Dino in the high-stakes De Leon race—the Super Bowl of underground racing. To get there in time, Tobey must run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet, dodging cops coast-to-coast and dealing with fallout from a dangerous bounty Dino put on his car. With his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia as allies, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

Briefly: Warner Bros. has just released a new TV spot for next month’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which looks to feature some brand-new footage, and also show off Benedict Cumberbatch’s haunting voice.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think! The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theatres on December 13th! We’re you a fan of the first film? Are you looking forward to this one? How about that 48FPS? Sound out below!

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Briefly: Universal Pictures has announced just when we’ll get to see the highly anticipated Dumb and Dumber To.

Jeff Daniels, Jim Carrey, and the Farelly brothers all return for the picture, which will hit theatres on November 14th, 2014. That’s just under a year away, which gives the team plenty of time to craft something as far away from Dumb and Dumberer as possible.

Are you looking forward to the film? Or is Dumb and Dumber a feature that should have never received a sequel? Sound out below!

Briefly: I sure wish that Square-Enix would have planned this title sooner, or made the jump to make it a PS4 title at this point.

The publisher has just announced the North American and European release dates for Final Fantasy X / X2 HD, the HD remakes of the revered Final Fantasy titles that graced the PS2 back in 2001 and 2003.

Sadly, we won’t be playing for awhile. The game is hitting the PS3 and Vita in Japan on December 26th, but the PS3 version won’t release in North America until March 18th, 2014, and Europe on March 21st, 2014. No North American or European Vita release dates were revealed.

I’m really looking forward to the new edition, seeing as I haven’t played Final Fantasy X since I was 11 years old. Will the game be enough to plug my PS3 back in, however? I guess only time will tell! Take a look at a new trailer for the game below, and let us know if you’ll be picking it up!

Briefly: Well, the PS4 is a hit.

Sony revealed earlier today that in the first 24 hours of availability, the company’s newest console sold over 1 million units.

“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. “Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

In comparison, Nintendo’s latest home console, the Wii U, sold just 400,000 units in its first weekthe PS3 sold 197,000 in its first two weeks, and the Xbox 360 sold through 326,000 in its first two weeks.

Those are some pretty fantastic numbers! I waited outside my local Wal-Mart to get my hands on one (check out my unboxing here), and am loving it so far!

Did you pick up a console? How are you feeling about it so far? Feel free to add me on PSN at (CaptainK17)!

Briefly: Remember all the way back in August when D.J. Caruso confirmed that he was still attached to the film adaptation of Garth Ennis’s Preacher?

That may not be the case any longer (which can only be a good thing). If BadAssDigest‘s sources are correct, the project may have found a new home at AMC… and it may actually come to exist.

The series could come from This Is The End writers Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, which is certainly an interesting duo for this sort of project. Shortly after the rumour went public, Rogen released a pair of very hopeful tweets:

Yep, Preacher could finally be happening. AMC won’t say a word, but we’ll be sure to share anything else that we hear.

Are you excited about the possibility of a Preacher series? Or does the hyper violent work of Garth Ennis leave a bad taste in your mouth? Do you think that AMC would be a good fit for the show? Sound out below!

Briefly: Remember when The Killing was cancelled, and then resurrected for an awesome third season, and then cancelled again?

Well, it seems as though The Killing just won’t stay dead, as the series has just received a six-episode final season order. Awesome news, right?

This time however, the series won’t be on AMC. Instead, the amazing folks over at Netflix are taking the reins to craft the final episodes. Seasons one through three are now available for streaming on the service, and if you haven’t seen it, I’d highly recommend it.

Take a look at the full press release below, and let us know how excited you are! We’ll be sure to share more info as soon as it’s available!

Netflix has ordered a fourth and final limited season that will serve as a conclusion for “The Killing,” exclusively for its over 40 million members worldwide. The 6-episode series finale, from Fox Television Studios (FTVS), will be available only to Netflix streaming members to watch instantly in all Netflix territories.

“The rich, serialized storytelling in ‘The Killing’ thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder a proper send off,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix. “We are looking forward to offering fans – both existing and new – a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing.”

David Madden, president, Fox Television Studios, commented, “It’s a true testament to ‘The Killing’ creator Veena Sud, and the stellar cast led so compellingly by Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, that fans remained so passionate about the show. We’re gratified that our partners at Netflix recognized this, and are giving us the opportunity to complete the story in a way that will be satisfying to our loyal audience.”

The first three seasons of “The Killing” are now available to stream globally on Netflix.

After watching the PS4 All Access Launch Event at work last night (where Uncharted for PS4 and The Last of Us DLC were revealed), I braved the cold Canadian darkness to wait in line at my local Wal Mart. By the time that midnight rolled around, about 50 people who weren’t smart enough to pre-order (myself included) were let in, and the first PS4’s in Nanaimo, BC were sold.

I drove home with the best of intentions. I’d arrive, take some unboxing photos, turn the unit on, and get downloading (updates and games, of course), but instead… I went to bed.

Now it’s Friday afternoon, and I’ve finally taken it out of the box.

Here are my unboxing photos, and first impressions on the feel of the hardware. Feel free to add me on PSN (whenever it starts to work again) at CaptainK17, and be sure to let us know your thoughts on the console!

IMG_1602

Classy, simple looking box (which is much smaller than the box that my slim PS3 came in)

IMG_1603

Inside is another, nearly identical box! It’s like a Russian doll!

IMG_1604

Carefully cutting… I like my boxes intact!

IMG_1605

Things are a little messy inside.

IMG_1609

The controller is a lot smaller than it looks in photos, and feels substantially more comfortable than the Dualshock 3… it’ll be tough to go back and play PS3 games now! I couldn’t have imagined how much the longer handles and concave analog sticks would feel! The headphone jack is also much appreciated, and game audio can even be routed through them!

IMG_1610

There’s one of my massive mitts holding the controller… yep, it still feels great!

IMG_1611

There’s the quick-start guide… if you’re into that kind of thing.

IMG_1613

Cables galore. The unit includes a power cable (same one as the PS3), an HDMI cable, a micro-USB cable for charging the Dualshock 4, and a mono headset for voice-chat!

IMG_1614

It’s nice that Sony included a headset, but it doesn’t feel as though it’ll last very long. I feel like one accidental pull could snap the thing in half. It is lightweight and comfortable however, and does include a clip for your shirt!

IMG_1617

I kind of thought that the console was ugly upon its announcement, but it actually looks pretty great in person. It also felt perfectly stable standing vertically without the stand… though I’ll probably still get one just to be safe. The PS4 logo itself is nice and sleek, and not gaudy at all like the original PS3 (blech).

IMG_1619

IMG_1620

It looks pretty great whether vertical or horizontal.

That’s it! Let us know if you plan to pick the console up, or whether you’re waiting for a must-have game! Have PS4 questions? Tweet them to @geekscapedotnet, and we’ll be happy to answer!

This is guaranteed to be the best thing you’ll watch all day week.

Miles is  5-year old San Francisco native who is currently battling leukemia. He also really wants to be Batman, and today, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is making that happen.

He’s already saved a damsel-in-distress and has been riding around in the real Batmobile with an adult Batman, and there’s still plenty more action to come. According to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the day will climax with “the Penguin will kidnapping a famous Gotham City mascot! The getaway car will be visible on Union Square (a convertible so that everyone can see what is happening), and the chase will be on!

After catching the Penguin, Batman will make his final stop at City Hall, where the Mayor and the Police Chief of Gotham City will thank him and give him the key to the city. We plan on having hundreds of volunteers and donors collected to cheer and thank our Batman! This is a great opportunity to see the magic of a wish in action – and a perfect outing for kids, grandkids and Bat-fans everywhere!”

It sounds amazing, and it looks like Miles is having a blast. You can head to San Francisco’s ABC7 to watch a livestream of the event, and look for #SFBatKid on twitter for more updates!

All of us at Geekscape hope that Miles is having a blast, and wish him the best in his ongoing battle.

Briefly: Now that production has begun on the highly anticipated From Dusk Till Dawn series, the El Ray Network has announced some of the series’ key cast.

The 10-episode supernatural crime saga (based on the film of the same name, duh) will feature Robert Patrick(Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The X-Files) as Jacob Fuller, Madison Davenport (Save Me, Shameless) as Kate Fuller, Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder, Ender’s Game, Incredible Crew) as Scott Fuller and Eiza González (Lola: Érase Una Vez) as Santánico Pandemonium.

Cast
Robert Patrick, Eiza González, Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo

Here are the character descriptions, straight from the press release:

Eiza González recreates the role of Santánico Pandemonium, credited for launching Salma Hayek’s film career.  Robert Patrick portrays Jacob Fuller, father to Kate Fuller (Davenport) and Scott Fuller (Soo Hoo), who are held hostage by main characters, Seth and Richie Gecko and find themselves along for the ride of their life.  They join previously announced D.J. Cotrona(Dear John, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) who plays Seth Gecko, Zane Holtz (Holes, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Richie Gecko; Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera, Sons of Anarchy) who plays Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez, a new character created for the series, and Don Johnson (Django Unchained, Nash Bridges) who joins in a recurring role as Sheriff Earl McGraw.

It’s been years (and years) since I’ve seen From Dusk Till Dawn, so I don’t really remember much of it. The film does have a huge cult following however, so I’m sure that From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series will be a huge hit for the El Ray Network when it premieres in 2014.

Are you looking forward to the series? Sound out below, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated with further news!

Briefly: Along with the reveal of a brand-new Uncharted during last night’s PS4 launch event, Naughty Dog also revealed the first piece of single-player DLC for this year’s incredible The Last of Us.

It’s called The Last of Us: Left Behind, and it’s a prequel tale that goes into the backstory of Ellie and her good friend, Riley. It actually looks pretty similar to the game’s excellent tie in comic, The Last of Us: American Dreams, but I can’t imagine that it would follow the same plot.

In any case, take a look at the teaser below, and let us know what you think. Details are scarce, but I’m a huge fan of The Last of Us, and I’ll be sure to fill you in as soon as we learn more.

Briefly: During last night’s all access Playstation 4 launch event, the lauded team at Naughty Dog revealed their first PS4 title.

kind of wish that it was a new IP, seeing as their last effort, The Last of Us was one of the best games ever made, but instead, Naughty Dog’s next title is an all-new Uncharted (which is still great news, as those games are amazing).

No details were revealed about the game, but a short and sweet teaser did debut. Take a look at it below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Community is now less than two months away from its fifth season premiere (finally), and NBC has released a batch of new stills from the anticipated season.

I have no idea what’s happening in the photos, but I’m excited as hell. Dan Harmon’s back, and I’m confident that the season will be wonderful. It is sad that we won’t be seeing Chevy Chase or much of Donald Glover (especially since the Troy and Abed relationship is the best part of the show), but we can’t win ’em all I guess.

Take a look at the new photos below, and let us know if you’re excited! Community premieres on January 2nd!

Briefly: We already know that Iron Man 3‘s Ty Simpkins has joined the project, and Bryce Dallas Howard has also confirmed her role; it appears as though another venerable star is in talks to head to Jurassic World.

Chris Pratt, who is currently working on Guardians of the Galaxy, has entered talks to star in the film. Pratt would take on the role that Josh Brolin was rumoured for just a few weeks back.

Details on the feature are still scarce, but we’ll be sure to fill you in as soon as we learn more. Do you think that Pratt would be a good fit for Jurassic World? Or would you rather see another actor star? Sound out below!

Briefly: My most anticipated next-gen launch game, Watch Dogs, may have been delayed until next year, but that hasn’t stopped director Brian Curtin and his team from crafting an amazing fan film based on the property.

The video takes us through what must be an average day in the life of Aiden Pearce, the game’s mysterious protagonist. He hacks, he fights, and he looks damn good doing it – this is one of the best fan films I’ve seen in a long time (though that live action Dead Island trailer was also pretty amazing).

Curtin explains the creation of the film:

Remember seeing that first gameplay video for Watch_Dogs, like a year ago? Not only was I drawn in by the characters and the mood, but the overall theme of everything being “connected”, it’s not too unrealistic for someone to have complete control in the palm of your hand. All of that gave us the itch to bring it to life and apparently many other fans felt the same way. Who would have thought there would be such a large number of fan films circulating, months before the game has been released. Crazy, I think Ubisoft is on to something. The best part about bringing Aiden to life was our opportunity to collaborate with Matthew Sumner (The man behind the mustache with Beat Down Boogie). Matthew and Annie Tee brought some extra flavor to our work, along with a killer original soundtrack from Tatenda Zvarayi, we hope to collaborate with more talented people in the future. )

Take a look at the video below, and let us know how much you’re longing for Watch Dogs.

Briefly: After what seems like years of waiting, Paramount Pictures has finally released the first trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah.

I’m a huge fan of each and every film that Aronofsky has directed, and as such, I’m really looking forward to Noah. Everything about this trailer is beautiful, from the stellar cast and performances, to the haunting score, to the gorgeous visuals, this one should be an absolutely treat to see in theatres.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. Noah stars Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Conelly, Anthony Hopkins, and plenty of others, and hits theatres on March 28th, 2014.

Briefly: If you’ve held off on Injustice: Gods Among Us for this long, now is the perfect time to pick it up.

The ‘Ultimate Edition’ of the game has just launched, featuring the core game, plus every piece of DLC that’s been released for it. That means six new characters, and dozens (and dozens) of new skins.

I’m not usually a big fighting game fan, but I absolutely fell in love with Injustice. This is the game that I wanted Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe to be back in the day, and NetherRealm Studios has done some incredible work with the title.

The Injustice: Gods Among Us – Ulimate Edition is available now on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Playstation Vita, and PC. The PS4 version features full 1080p graphics at 60 frames per second, and should be just beautiful. Players who pick up the PS3 version can upgrade to the PS4 edition for just $10!

Take a look at the game’s launch trailer below, which showcases the game’s stellar cast, and let us know if you enjoyed the title!

“Gods Among Us” debuts as a bold new fighting game franchise that introduces a deep, original story featuring a large cast of favorite DC Comics icons such as Batman, Cyborg, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Deathstroke, Solomon Grundy, Superman, Lex Luthor, The Flash, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Bane, Catwoman, Shazam, Black Adam, Raven, the Joker, Doomsday, Killer Frost, Ares and more. Set in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred, players will experience heroes and villains engaging in epic battles on a massive scale.

Briefly: Machinima’s Interactive Film Festival hits Los Angeles next week… again leaving me to wish that I was in LA.

Running at the iam8bit studios located in Echo Park from November 22 – 24, 2013, the offline exhibit will shine a light on filmmakers and animators at the forefront of this unprecedented cultural shift in online video media.

The video art show is unique in its ability to provide anyone in the world the opportunity to view work submitted by some of the most talented online video directors and content creators. With just over one week to go before this year’s festival, some of the entries come from all over the world, and feature talent from YouTube, Vimeo, top animation and film schools, traditional festivals, and even a few Hollywood insiders.

Unlike traditional film festivals, “MIFF” breaks down barriers of exclusivity and expense by asking for no entry charge, no scurry for tickets, no stress— for both its online and offline components. In addition to the offline event, “MIFF” is a massive, yearlong collaboration between Machinima, iam8bit, and some of the best and brightest filmmakers and animators around, empowering directors and content creators to develop their best work and submit via http://machinimainteractivefilmfestival.com/submit/. So far, Machinima has uploaded over 30 pieces of content, as the piloting stage is year-round. Those videos alone have generated an average of 100K views per video, curating over 3.5MM views. In addition, last year’s winners have collectively accumulated more than 10M views on their respective shows and series.

For the first time ever, three creators (one from each category) will be selected as winners and given development deals for a three-to-four episode mini-series to be funded and distributed by Machinima. Of the three mini-series, one will be selected to develop a feature-length (90 minute) piece of content, distributed as nine 10-minute segments on Machinima, as well as potential limited theatrical distribution.

Winners will be selected by a panel of Machinima staff and industry heavy hitters, including director James Wan, game designer Cliffy B, animator Jon Schnepp, producer Adi Shanker, YouTube star Mega 64, and many more.

The content will be submitted and presented in 3 categories, including:

· Fan Films (Example: The Dark Knight Legacy – http://youtu.be/kmLXTFWgX2s)

· Animation (Example: COIN – http://youtu.be/vuBhHxdMwgg)

· Live Action Originals (Example: Land of Giants – http://youtu.be/jMVw9LxzUB0)

An ongoing celebration of incubating creative talent, accepted selections will be distributed online by the Machinima network and housed and promoted via MachinimaInteractiveFilmFestival.com. iam8bit will then physically exhibit the whole entertainment experience at their studios in Los Angeles from November 22 – 24, 2013.

It sounds pretty amazing, so all you ‘Scapists in the Los Angeles area better be headed to Echo Park! Be sure to let me know how it is, since I’m stuck all the way up here in Canada.
