Briefly: I’ve felt a little iffy about Fear The Walking Dead since the companion series was first revealed. Sure, the world wants as much The Walking Dead as it can get (you do know that there’s a comic book and incredible video game too, right?), but would this series simply be the same show in a different location, and without the survivors we already know and love?

Hell no. After having an opportunity to speak with the cast and producers of the series at San Diego Comic-Con (more on that in a few days), my qualms have disappeared, and I’m now simply excited to see where East Los Angeles, and the beginnings of the infection take this dysfunctional blended family.

Then, of course, the trailer came out, and solidified my excitement for this starkly different production.

Today, AMC debuted a creepy new teaser for the premiere episode, showing off a bustling Los Angeles quickly becoming dark and smoky.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know if you’ll be watching on August 23rd!

Briefly: Back in January, celebrated developer Harmonix revealed that it would have to push its Kickstarter-funded reboot of popular rhythm game Amplitude to this Summer.

Unfortunately, it looks as though the game is taking the route of every Kickstarter project that I’ve ever backed and has been delayed once more.

Now, this isn’t just a case of shipping estimates being impossibly ambitious in order to procure more backers, but instead Harmonix has decided to vastly expand the title, and just can’t possibly finish the new content in time.

In an update to the project’s Kickstarter page, Harmonix’ Alex and Ryan detail just what’s going on:

Greetings, beloved backers!

This is Alex Rigopulos, writing to you through a cartoon speech bubble. Ryan and I are eager to fill you all in on a number big developments in Amplitude Land.

As the game came together this year, it became apparent to all of us that it was shaping up to be something really special. The gameplay is as fun and addictive as ever, the HD visuals are gorgeous and hypnotic, and the soundtrack is killer.

The game is fulfilling all of our hopes and ambitions for it, and at a certain point, we made a major call: We’ve decided to double down, increase the project budget, and make the new Amplitude bigger and better than the scope of game we originally pitched to you all last year.

I will now hand the mic over to Cartoon Ryan, who will tell you some more details.

Hey there…

Although we had originally promised about 16 songs total, we have decided to cram as much awesome music into Amplitude as possible. We now upped the total count to 30 songs! If you are a backer at the appropriate tiers, you will also get a 31st song too, voted on by the Song Senate—our group of backers that chipped in at the Song Senate tier. (Side note: In a display of true Amplitude community good will, the Song Senate decided to keep the “most wanted” song in the main game soundtrack, instead of keeping it all to themselves. THANKS, SONG SENATE!)

You guys may also recall that early in the dev cycle, we decided to add a concept album wrapper to the otherwise vanilla solo mode. This is all new for Amplitude and we think it adds a bit more depth and interest to the game and the songs themselves. The core campaign now includes 16 all-original songs, written in-house by our amazing musicians. You have heard some of these tracks in past posts and at the conventions… songs like “Decode Me” and “Wetware”.

In addition to the basic play modes that were promised originally, and the single path/single environment in which they would be presented, we decided to expand both of those dimensions by adding 2 more playable environments, unique path topology per song, and more play modes. We are now shipping a solo campaign, solo free play, 2-4 player “free-for-all”, and an all-new team play mode (1v3, 2v2).

Over the course of the project, we created the original nanoblaster and the backerblaster, and also made 3 additional nanoblasters for players to choose from in solo and multi play. (v0.9 Chubs is my personal fave, displacing v1.1 Raven)

We have added leaderboards, allowing players to compete asynchronously against each other online for score, both per-song and across the whole game.

Oh! One last thing: There is a new, still-to-be-announced way to play the game that will change the way you think about Amplitude’s 6-lane track. More on that at a later date! Now back to Alex.

Thanks, Cartoon Ryan. So that’s all of the good news. Now for the bad news that comes along with it: It’s impossible for us to finish all of these extra songs, environments, features and modes on the same schedule. Our previous target for shipping the game was this summer. Now that we’ve committed to this expanded scope, though, we won’t be able to complete and ship the game until the end of this year on PS4 (with the PS3 version coming shortly thereafter).

Kickstarter backers who paid for the “early access” reward will be able to play the PS4 version in December, prior to the holiday break. For everyone else, the PS4 version will become available in January. (We’ll follow up with the exact dates in December and January for PS4 as soon as we have them. PS3 will follow shortly behind.)

We know that this schedule slip will be a disappointment to many of you. (Frankly, it’s disappointing to us as well, as we’re all dying to play the finished game…) However, our judgment was that our highest priority is to deliver the best game we possibly can to our fans—the definitive version of Amplitude. We want to over-deliver for our biggest supporters, and that’s simply going to require some extra time.

Some of you might wonder—will this delay mean that synchronous online multiplayer will be added? I’m sorry to say, it will not, as that is impossible within our budget means for this game, even with the expanded budget. However, our hope is that this release of Amplitude will be successful enough to justify a sequel or feature expansion pack that could include this. In the meantime, the newly added leaderboard system will enable plenty of heated asynchronous online competition!

Finally, I should add that the physical rewards are beginning production, and we’ll have more news on those in the coming weeks.

From the whole Amplitude team, thank you for your continued support and patience. We think that when you see the finished product at the end of this year, you’ll agree that the wait as been worth it!

TL;DR? Basically, it’s coming in December for early access members, and January for everyone else. Game modes have been expanded, and the track list has increased from a decent 16 to a whopping 30 tracks.

Sound like a good reason for a delay? Yeah, I thought so.

Are you looking forward to playing the Amplitude reboot? Sound out below!

Hell no. After having an opportunity to speak with the cast and producers of the series at San Diego Comic-Con (more on that this August), my qualms have disappeared, and I’m now simply excited to see where East Los Angeles, and the beginnings of the infection take this dysfunctional blended family.

Then, of course, the trailer came out, and solidified my excitement for this starkly different production.

It definitely looks as though we’ll have no shortage of our new survivors, as at the ongoing Television Critics Association press tours, showrunner Dave Erickson revealed that season two will consist of 15 episodes.

THR’s Lesley Goldberg has learned that the series’ second season will likely be split in two, just like in The Walking Dead proper.

I wonder what short of split we’ll see next year. I imagine we’ll see the first seven or eight episodes in the Summer, and the remainder in the Winter when The Walking Dead is on its Christmas break. This mean’s we’ll be seeing plenty of the under all year round, which sounds both awesome, and a little bit exhausting.

Are you looking forward to Fear the Walking Dead? Sound out below!

FearPoster

Briefly: Still feeling mixed about Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice? Even after that much better SDCC trailer? Really?

Well, maybe this new batch of stills from the latest issue of Empire Magazine will help.

The stills feature (naturally), both Superman and Batman, as well as Wonder Woman (in Diana mode). Supes definitely looks pissed in one of the shots, and we also get a great shot of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne getting ready to suit-up.

You can take a look at the images below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for the upcoming film! Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theatres on March 25th, 2016!

Briefly: Well, it’s not Teen Mom, but MTV’s found another hit in its Scream television series.

In response to the show’s impressive ratings, the network has renewed the series for a second season.

The official tagline for the series is “Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies. Everyone is fair game,” and I have to say that, even though I don’t really remember Scream (I was a young boy when the first film released), I’m intrigued by the self-aware musings of the series.

MTV EVP Mina Lefevre notes that “W] are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of Scream. We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns.”

Have you been watching the series so far? How does it hold up to the films? Sound out below!

A screwball thriller about performance and surveillance.

Sounds interesting already, doesn’t it? And with the track record of Paul Felten and Joe DeNardo, plus the full support of Academy Award nominee Chloë Sevigny, I’m pretty sure we’re in for a winner with Slow Machine.

But, as is often the case with some of the best projects (and as is always the case with our Crowdfund This column), the team needs our help for Slow Machine to become a reality.

Here’s what Slow Machine is all about:

The film sounds starkly different from anything you’ve seen in as long as you can remember, doesn’t it? Joe and Paul also filled us in on some further character information that we didn’t see in the video. Take a look below:

STEPHANIE, our main character, is an actress living in present-day NYC. She’s a vibrant, restless person – a woman for whom each new encounter suggests life-altering possibilities. She’s also at the end of her emotional/professional rope: tired of auditions, of tiny roles in dubiously ‘independent’ films, of crossing her fingers for understudy gigs. She feels like time is getting HEAVY. She thinks she is probably reading too much Philip Larkin.

Enter GERARD, an NYPD counter-terrorism specialist who’s an aficionado of downtown theater. Also maybe out of his mind. The two begin an entirely unhealthy sort-of-romance, which culminates… poorly. (We don’t want to give too much away here). Stephanie has to split, fast. She flees upstate with a man-in-a-van, who also happens to be the sound guy for ELEANOR FRIEDBERGER’S band.

The band’s making a record in a big, ramshackle house. Stephanie assumes an identity as a Texan and hangs, listens, spurns the van-man’s advances and tries to keep it together. She doesn’t succeed, and so she returns to the city, and to the consequences of Gerard’s presence in her life…

Now, Slow Machine has an insanely low goal for such an ambitious project. The film is currently sitting at $11,650 of its $30,000 goal, and there’s still 15 whole days for it to hit its funding goal. I was really interested in seeing just how such a small sum of cash would be spent, and it’s all been broken down:

$$ – The aforementioned film.
$$ – Sound people get paid.
$$ – Transportation of cast/crew to places like our upstate location.
$$ – Food. Cast/crew gotta eat.
$$ – Equipment rental.
$$ – The occasional prop/supply. It’s possible we’ll need a broom or something at some point. Paint. Stuff like that.

As always, there are some fabulous rewards for backers of the project, including digital downloads, mix tapes, stills, VIP screenings,  producer credits, and even a… tattoo. Yep, an actual, real tattoo.

So, if you’re even vaguely interested in something completely different, you can check out the Kickstarter page right here, and be sure to let us know if you plan to back Slow Machine!

Briefly: As a huge fan of Heroes initial four season run (yes, I watched it all the way through), I was beyond excited when NBC announced Heroes Reborn in February of last year. The first series ended with an infuriating cliffhanger, and after a resolution was promised via a film, and then via comic book, and then essentially never spoken about again, I thought that surely the universe of Heroes was simply dead.

And then Heroes Reborn was announced, and people like Jack Coleman and Masi Oka were confirmed to return, and I’ve pretty much been squealing with anticipation ever since.

Today, NBC debuted a brand new poster for the series, which showcases much of the series’ new cast, while leaving out any of our alumni aside from Noah Bennet.

Weird. Where’s Hiro?

You can take a look at the poster below, and be sure to let us know whether or not you’re looking forward to Heroes return to television.

Reborn

Briefly: Episode two of Supergirl‘s first season is now in production, and following the series’ first poster from just a few days back, CBS has debuted a new featurette that digs into the episode’s opening scene.

I’m really excited to check out Supergirl. I missed the screening at SDCC, and haven’t watched the leaked pilot, but the premise of a fun, not super dark and gloomy superhero series is beyond intriguing to me.

Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Supergirl premieres on October 26th!

https://youtu.be/GKtqNsc65j8

Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant. She works alongside her friend and IT technician Winn Schott and famous photographer James Olsen, who Grant just hired away from the Daily Planet to serve as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw, head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

Briefly: Yep, it’ll take up 50GB to install the whole thing, but doesn’t Rare Replay sound fantastic?

The company today debuted a cheesy, yet effective trailer for the collection, very quickly detailing pretty much every game the collection features.

Catchy song, right?

The collection is pretty huge, and includes Jet Pac , Atic Atac, Lunar Jetman, Sabre Wulf, UnderWurlde, Knight Lore, Gunfright, Slalom, R.C. Pro-Am, Cobra Triangle, Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll, Digger T. Rock, Solar Jetman, Battletoads, , R.C. Pro-Am II, Battletoads Arcade, Killer Instinct Gold, Blast Corp, Banjo Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark, Banjo Tooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Grabbed By The Ghoulies, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo: Elements of Power, Viva Piñata, Jetpac Refueled, Viva Piñata: Trouble In Paradise, and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

We went hands-on with Rare Replay at SDCC earlier this month, and aside from a few technical issues that will hopefully be solved for the retail release, we had a blast with it.

Will you be picking up Rare Replay when it releases on August 4th? Which game are you most looking forward to?

Briefly: It’s still hard for me to believe that The X-Files is coming back.

Following the news of the Lone Gunmen’s return, and the very first teaser from last week, Fox has debuted another tiny teaser trailer for The X-Files.

Just like last time around, it features small snippets of non contextual footage, though this time around, we hear David Duchovny’s Mulder ask Scully if she’s ‘ready for this’.

I’m freaking ready for January 2016, when The X-Files returns on Fox. How about you? Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you’d like to see in the comments below!

Ah, that theme song. Really brings you back, doesn’t it?

Briefly: I don’t even own a PC, and I’m probably going to pick this up.

What? It’ll look awesome with my Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4.

During today’s QuakeCon 2015 presentation, Bethesda revealed the limited edition Fallout Anthology collection. The collection, naturally, includes Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas, in freaking phenomenal Fat Man mini-nuke packaging (with audio).

It’s gorgeous, and is priced at just $50. Sadly, at this time it’s also already sold out, so hopefully Bethesda finds more stock sitting somewhere and releases it to us fans.

Sure, all of these games can be had for just a few bucks online, but that packaging is just too good to pass up!

Note that you’ll need to provide your own copy of Fallout 4, as the Fallout Anthology releases on September 29th!

Anthology

Briefly: I’m so freaking excited.

Over its three already-released episodes, Life Is Strange has evolved from an intriguing, mysterious adventure title into arguably my favourite title of 2015. Seriously, you really shouldn’t waste you’re time playing anything else.

A trailer for the next episode of the game has just debuted online, and though I won’t watch it (because spoilers, duh), DONTNOT has also revealed that the episode will finally release next Tuesday. This means it narrowly made its July deadline, and that I’m only a few days away from being able to finally play it!

Square-Enix also revealed today that Life is Strange has surpassed one million units. This is a fantastic milestone, and DONTNOD notes that “This is a huge achievement for the small team working on the game.”

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think we’re in store for next week.

Briefly: It’s a show that I gave up on long ago, but it’s hard to believe just how freaking popular Gotham is.

Following the addition of Michael Chiklis to the already expansive cast, Fox today debuted a new trailer for the upcoming season of Gotham. The video, called ‘Hungry’, showcases many of the angry, angry villains that we’re set to see again this time around, thankfully minus Jada Pinkett-Smith’s atrocious Fish Mooney.

The show is set to return on September 21st, so take a look at the new trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re still watching Gotham!

https://youtu.be/BFjQtb9ws0Q

The good. The evil. The beginning.

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), GOTHAM follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Briefly: It’s almost time for Fantastic Four! Sure, we still don’t know if it’ll be better or worse than the abysmal film from 2005 (my guess, much better), but I’m more interested in whether or not director Josh Trank can follow up 2012’s Chronicle with, well, something equally fantastic.

Today, Fox debuted four new clips for the film that introduce us to our heroes. Take a look below!

https://youtu.be/DCGrBiWJa8o?list=PLYNW0PN4_jrqPqQYEUUPsIdtUvORLCVll

https://youtu.be/DCGrBiWJa8o?list=PLYNW0PN4_jrqPqQYEUUPsIdtUvORLCVll

https://youtu.be/un8p9GiEYCM?list=PLYNW0PN4_jrqPqQYEUUPsIdtUvORLCVll

https://youtu.be/Zrjehh2Za2k

The clips each look to have a few seconds of new footage, and though the film has been getting a ton of internet hate (since long before we saw any footage), I think it looks pretty cool.

Are you looking forward to the film? Share your thoughts below! Fantastic Four opens on August 7th!

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Briefly: The first reel for the series was shown all the way back at last year’s New York Comic-Con, and now, nearly a year later, Disney XD has debuted the first promo for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.

The promo comes alongside synopsis’ for the series first two episodes:

“Road to Knowhere”: The newly-christened Guardians of the Galaxy come into possession of a dangerous artifact that has Thanos’ new lieutenant, Korath, after them.

“Knowhere to Run”: The Guardians struggle to subdue the suddenly-sprung-to-life Celestial head that is the Knowhere space colony, as well as storm Korath’s ship to rescue Quill, Gamora, and the mysterious CryptoCube that holds the Cosmic Seed.

Sounds like fun, doesn’t it. After last year’s Guardians movie, I can’t get enough of those lovable misfits. Take a look at the promo below, and let us know if you’ll be checking out the September 26th premiere.

Briefly: Remember that clever (but semi-uninspired) 2011 film Limitless, based on the novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn?

Did you know that it was getting a sequel in the form of a Bradley Cooper produced television series? Cooper is even set to have a recurring role in the drama, as his character, Edward Morra, is now a senator, and serves as a mentor to our new lead.

Limitless is a fast-paced drama about Brian Finch (McDorman), who discovers the brain-boosting power of the mysterious drug NZT and is coerced by the FBI into using his extraordinary cognitive abilities to solve complex cases for them. Working closely with Brian in the major case squad in New York City is Special Agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter), a formidable investigator with a dark past, and Special Agent Boyle (Hill Harper), a former military officer and Rebecca’s confidante.

IGN today debuted the key art for the upcoming series, which I’m actually really looking forward to. The image definitely echoes the one-sheets for the film, which featured Cooper’s character amidst an out of focus city.

Take a look at the poster below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the series!

Limitless

Briefly: Yesterday it was reported that NBC had begun development on a reboot of classic 90’s action series Xena: Warrior Princess.

Sadly, it looks like you’ll have to give up on those dreams for now, as earlier today Xena herself, Lucy Lawless, squashed the news of the reboot.

It looks as though we’ll just have to keep dreaming for now, but while we wait for Xena, why not check out Paul London: Hero of the Prophecy?

Briefly: We’re just a few months away from American Horror Story‘s anticipated return, and as in past years, the short, creepy, fantastic teasers have returned.

Just one teaser has been revealed so far, depicting a gruesome hand ringing, naturally, a hotel call bell (this season’s subtitle is Hotel). It’s actually Lady Gaga’s hand, as Gaga will take centre stage in this season of the celebrated series.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know which season of American Horror Story has been your favourite so far!

https://youtu.be/9YTSI5LYCi0

Briefly: Last week, Eric posted an extensive, fantastic interview with actor and Real Fake History narrator Phil Morris, and today, Real Fake History debuted what may be its best episode yet: Little Mac’s rise to the top.

Yep, Little Mac, NES boxer and unicorn Amiibo. He’s not exactly the same as we remember, however, as it appears that all those boxing matches have left the underdog with some severe brain damage.

He was just 17 years old and 107 pounds, but he had big dreams – to join the World Video Boxing Association. This episode details the relationship between Mac and his trainer, Doc Louis.

Take a look at the episode below, and be sure to let us know which has been your favourite so far!

Briefly: Already sick of the myriad of characters featured in Mortal Kombat X? Well, this coming Tuesday you’ll have the opportunity to add one more.

July 21st marks the return of the Black Dragon ninja and Kano’s disciple, Tremor. “Mortal Kombat X is the Klassic character’s first appearance since Mortal Kombat: Special Forces (2000) and marks the first time Tremor is fully playable. In addition, the bundle includes the Klassic Skins Pack 2 with three new character skins including Quan Chi, Jax and Kung Lao.”

You’ll also have the opportunity to download the FREE Klassic Fatalities Pack 2 with new fatalities for Mileena, Kitana, Kung Lao and Jax.

Both Tremor and the Classic Skins Pack will be available together for just $7.99. Separately, Tremor will cost you $4.99, while the skin pack costs $3.99.

Are you still playing Mortal Kombat X? Are you looking forward to adding a new fighter to your roster? Sound out below!

Briefly: If you weren’t already excited for next week’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (did you even see Ghost Protocol?), this newly-released featurette will probably change your mind.

It’s short, clocking in at just over 1 minute, but it showcases just how incredible the stunts in the film can be.

You know that scene from the trailer that has Ethan hanging off the side of a plane during takeoff? That was actually Tom Cruise, on the side of an actually taking off airplane.

Pretty freaking incredible. Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation hits theatres on July 31!

IMF agent Ethan Hunt is tracked down by The Syndicate, a highly trained organization of rogue assassins that kill on order. With the help of his colleagues, he plans to bring The Syndicate down by any means necessary.

Briefly: I was a big fan of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series until it got awful. There’s no sports game, singular or series, that I’ve spent more hours with, but after the first Tony Hawk’s Underground, the series quickly turned from stellar to abysmal. Even Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD was disappointing, bringing over beloved stages, but leaving behind the classic physics and incredible soundtrack.

Tony is aware of the series’ missteps, and is looking to fix them with the series next game. I really, really hope it’s not all talk, and the game’s latest, just-released trailer leads me to believe that we may be in for a treat with this one.

http://youtu.be/CvwSKI0mm4M

It’s quite a simple trailer, featuring a myriad of skaters traversing nondescript maps, and it also looks as though it could be for an early PS3 game.

Sure, I’m hyperbolizing a bit, but I mean, this is not a pretty looking game. What could the developers be doing? Maybe focussing on bringing back the not-realistic-at-all-but-super-fun physics or the incredibly tight controls? How about those stellar maps that were featured in the series’ early days?

All I’m trying to say is, I’ve been hearing a lot of hate for the title, since long before anybody played it, and maybe, just maybe, we should wait until we get our hands on the damned thing before we hate it all the way to the bargain bin.

If they can bring back the feel and the fun of the old Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater titles, it could look like a PS1 title for all I care. Please, Activision, don’t release another piece of crap!

Are you looking forward to Tony Hawk‘s (hopefully triumphant) return? Sound out below!

It’s still hard for me to believe that after 13 long years, The X-Files is returning to television. This isn’t a stinkin’ reboot either, but bonafide extra-terrestrial, supernatural mysteries featuring our beloved Mulder and Scully.

Today, Fox debuted the first teaser for the 6-episode mini-series. While it reveals nothing of note (some sort of crash, bodies being dragged away, etc), it’s still exciting as hell, because guys, The X-Files is coming back!

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know what you’re doing to prepare for the January 24th premiere!

https://youtu.be/CFJnWwh12j0

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since 2014’s Comic-Con International. Last year was my second incredible adventure through San Diego, which featured the opportunity to see plenty of old friends, make a whole bunch of new ones, and work my way through a myriad of unbelievable experiences, including the always show-stopping Legendary Entertainment booth, which gave me my very, very first experience with virtual reality, and also introduced me (in person) to one of my favourite directors of all time, Guillermo Del Toro.

During booth setup on Tuesday, I wondered just what Legendary could have in store for attendees this year. Gone were the impressive yet gigantic Oculus Rift-equipped Jaeger Pilot seats, and gone was the SDCC highlight Crimson Peak Gothic Gallery. In fact, during setup, Legendary’s area appeared decidedly more spacious, aside from an beyond-impressive, life-sized Orgrim Doomhammer.

It turns out that the company needed all of that extra space, as this year’s convention appears bigger than ever for the industry giant, and also includes a partnership and giveaway that (I believe) is unparalleled in Comic-Con history.

During the company’s preview night event on Wednesday, which we were lucky enough to attend, Legendary representatives spoke at length about the fact that, while a film studio at its core (and an impressive comic book company to boot), they’re also an experience company, and creating market defining experiences is extremely important to the company and its future. As such, the company decided to release its stellar Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot experience, along with two new VR experiences (one for Warcraft, and one for Crimson Peak), to the masses with the help of Google and its Cardboard viewer.

Cardboard

Legendary and Google have partnered up to give away 50,000 Cardboard viewers (the new design, too) during the course of the convention, and if yesterday (Thursday) was any indication, these things are hot. The lineup to grab a Legendary-logoed cardboard viewer was longer than the lineup for many of the actors around the show floor. Apparently, people are dying to get their hands on these things. Learn more about the partnership via the video below, and if you have a Cardboard viewer (or would just like to pan the camera around these experiences) head to legendary.com/vr.

There was far more to see at the Legendary booth than just VR, however. As I mentioned above, the company also officially revealed the film’s version of Orgrim Doomhammer for the horde, but also brought us over to the nearby Weta booth to unveil the Alliance’s King Llane.

KingLlane

Llane was unveiled by Warcraft director Duncan Jones, and WETA founder (yep, WETA’s freaking founder) Richard Taylor. Following the unveiling, Taylor, Jones, and press members returned to Legendary’s booth to chat about what we just saw. Here’s Richard talking about the amount of work that went into this portable Doomhammer.

And here’s Duncan Jones talking about the prospect of magic in Warcraft‘s world, and also whether or not gamers would see any noticeable easter eggs in the upcoming film.

Overall, it was another amazing preview night from Legendary Entertainment. The company really is a juggernaut in the film industry, and always manages to somehow get me interested in properties that I didn’t know that I had interest in, for instance, the upcoming Straight Outta Compton.

Of course, those weren’t all of the revelations that Legendary had in store for us. Also announced were three incredible looking Mondo prints that will be available at Mondo’s booth this Saturday (pictured below), and yesterday, a Warcraft prequel graphic novel from Legendary Comics was debuted.

An exciting night, an incredible way to kick off Comic-Con, and an incredible preview of what Legendary Entertainment has in store for us this year. I can’t freaking wait for Crimson Peak, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. As always, thanks for those at Legendary for hosting an amazing night!

Legendary’s booth #3920, which is right across from #3919 (us). Be sure to go and give them a visit (after saying hi to us, of course), and check out Orgrim for yourself!

Briefly: Typically, our Crowdfund This pieces look at Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns in their infancy that pique our interest.

Unfortunately, with E3, San Diego Comic-Con, and a million other things going on at once, this one slipped under our radar, and now definitely needs our help if we want to see it happen.

It’s called The Unwantedand it’s “a frightening supernatural thriller that examines a haunted hotel years after a horrifying incident occurred.”

The idea for The Unwanted originated from the Elisa Lam tape, which features “real security cam footage of a woman in an elevator that, over the course of four minutes, looks as if she’s becoming possessed – drifting in and out of the elevator, unbalanced and frightened. At the end of the video, she slowly pinwheels her splayed hands about, as if pleading with something we cannot see, her body then contorts and she disappears from view. She went missing and was found dead in a SEALED, inaccessible rooftop water tank weeks later. The County Department of Coroner ruled the death “accidental due to drowning” and said no traces of drugs or alcohol were found during the autopsy. This happened at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles two years ago.”

You can take a look at the footage here, but be warned that it’s creepy as hell.

Now, the team notes that they are “NOT basing our film on this footage. Instead, it inspired us – in a horrifying way – to create The Unwanted. A film with elements of The Exorcist, The Gates of Hell and The Sentinel. A film that asks the question – what if you were possessed by TWO different entities in a horrible, haunted place and the only way to stop them was to stop yourself?”

Sushi Girl co-writer Destin Pfaff is now helming this one, and with the cult fanbase that the star-studded film has, it’s crazy to me that The Unwanted sits at just $7700 of its $85000 goal.

So, The Unwanted needs our help. As always, there are some fantastic rewards up for grabs, including shirts, scripts, digital downloads, Blu-Rays, producer credits, and much, much more. The biggest reward of all? Getting to see this movie me made, of course (does that sound like a MasterCard commercial, or what)?

So, you know what to do. Take a look at the project’s Kickstarter video below, and head here to back! Are you looking forward to The Unwanted?

Briefly: This is crazy, and not something I’d expect from a game with totally optional, not necessary at all in-app-purchases.

Bethesda’s first foray into mobile games, the revered and heavily downloaded Fallout Shelter, has brought in over $5.1 million dollars in the first two weeks that it was available.

When the game was announced, Bethesda was very quick to note that this game, while free to play, was simply designed to be a fun experience for fans. It features no pay wall, timed building, energy systems, or otherwise, and the only in-app purchase in the entire game, simply gives you random bonuses that you can also earn by completing objectives in games.

This is a pretty insane achievement, and it’s truly a testament to how successful the free-to-play model can be. Sure, most mobile developers gouge their players with dozens of options, lives, and currencies, but if you look at the success (or lack of) for premium titles on the iOS or Android app markets, typically, the decision to make an app free to play is a no brainer. For an app featuring only one in-app purchase that isn’t necessary at all, however, this is beyond impressive.

Kudos, Bethesda, now excuse me while I go play some Fallout Shelter (which I’ve managed to avoid putting money into thus far.

Are you playing Fallout Shelter? What do you think of the game so far?

Briefly: As a huge fan of Heroes initial four season run (yes, I watched it all the way through), I was beyond excited when NBC announced Heroes Reborn in February of last year. The first series ended with an infuriating cliffhanger, and after a resolution was promised via a film, and then via comic book, and then essentially never spoken about again, I thought that surely the universe of Heroes was simply dead, and we’d never, ever see what happened when Claire Bennet revealed herself to the world.

And then Heroes Reborn was announced, and people like Jack Coleman and Masi Oka were confirmed to return, and I’ve pretty much been squealing with anticipation ever since.

During the insanity that is San Diego Comic-Con, NBC released the first full trailer for Heroes: Reborn, which answers some key questions, and raises a few of its own (mainly, “Where are the heroes?”).

Yep, Reborn is set five years after the finale, and it’s also in the same world where Claire revealed herself. This means that everyone knows of these super-human individuals, and naturally, everyone hates them.

We also see that the series looks to largely focus on Jack Coleman’s Noah Bennett, who looks beyond broken after what happened to his daughter, and no longer wears his trademark horn-rimmed glasses.

All in all, the series looks bad-ass, and I couldn’t be more excited to return to this world that I had long given up on. Whether the series can bring back the lustre of Heroes debut season, or will end up more like the atrocity that was season three, I cannot wait to see these old friends again.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Heroes: Reborn premieres on September 24th!

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, we’ve received our first look at the Cinemax adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Outcast.

The TV adaptation was in the works before the first issue of the comic even hit store shelves. Not surprising at all, based on the popularity of The Walking Dead, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that Outcast, while a bit slow to get off the ground, has been a fantastic read so far.

Outcast focuses on Kyle Barnes, a man who has been plagued by possession for his entire life, and begins a journey to discover why. Kyle will be portrayed by Gone Girl actor Patrick Fugit. Expanded cast includes Philip Glenister as Reverend Anderson, a hard drinking, hard gambling West Virginian evangelical preacher who believes he’s a soldier in God’s holy war against evil, and Gabriel Bateman as Joshua Austin, a young boy who lives across town who appears to be possessed by a demon and has a mysterious connection to Kyle.

Take a look at the teaser trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the series. Outcast‘s 10-episode first season hits Cinemax in 2016!

Briefly: If you thought The Walking Dead‘s intensity had hit its ceiling, it looks like you were wrong. Somehow, things look crazier than ever in the upcoming episodes.

Following the fantastic first trailer for Fear The Walking Dead, AMC has debuted our first look at The Walking Dead’s sixth season, which is set to debut on October 11th.

From the trailer, it looks as though things turn sour between Morgan and Rick, and eventually the entirety of Alexandria. It definitely looks to echo some of the Image Comics series recent happenings, but, of course, with its own TV spin.

And what the heck is Daryl up to?

In any case, take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! We’ve got quite a ways to wait for this one, but at least we’ll have Fear The Walking Dead to tide us over. Which series are you more excited for?
