Sony’s 2014 press conference is live at 6:00pm, and we’re here at E3 to tell you everything the company has coming.

Sony’s been decidedly quiet about any announcements or games that they’ll be showcasing this year, so we can only hope it’s something BIG. By big, of course, we mean The Last Guardian. What else could pop up? DriveClub for sure, but what about another (better) try at Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (maybe with some actual stars), or that it’s-been-rumoured-forever-but-will-probably-never-happen Crash Bandicoot reboot? We can dream. Plus, maybe the Vita will get a price drop (though maybe they should kill it off completely)?

Read on, find out, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: Watch Dogs is finally almost here, and Ubisoft has debuted a new 9-minute ‘101’ trailer for the game that takes us through almost every facet of the experience.

The video showcases some intense action that we haven’t seen before, introduces us to some interesting characters, shows off the game’s intriguing smartphone app, and plenty more. Some of it does look a little silly however, like running away from the cops as a mechanical spider in one of the game’s ‘Digital Trips’.

The game looks like a lot of fun, and as I’ve definitely been looking for something new to play on my PS4, I can’t wait to pick it up. Watch Dogs was my “must have” title for the PS4 launch before it was delayed, so I sure hope that it’s worth the wait.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think! Watch Dogs hits PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on May 27th!

Briefly: After what seems like forever, Watch Dogs is finally just a month away from release.

Ubisoft has just launched an eight-minute multiplayer walkthrough for the title, which showcases some fantastic cat and mouse gameplay. According to the description, in “Watch Dogs’ groundbreaking multiplayer modes where everything and everyone is connected. Learn how Watch Dogs is blurring the line between single and multiplayer, and get a glimpse into three distinct and exciting modes including Online Hacking Contracts, ctOS – Mobile Companion App, and Competitive Decryption Combat.”

The game looks like a lot of fun, and as I’ve definitely been looking for something new to play on my PS4, I can’t wait to pick this one up. Watch Dogs was my “must have” title for the PS4 launch before it was delayed, so I sure hope that it’s worth the wait.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: It was announced back in February that Sony’s slimmer, lighter Vita 2000 would be making its way to North America in the Spring, and now we know just when you’ll be able to get your hands on one.

Sony revealed today that the Borderlands 2 PS Vita bundle will launch in stores on May 6th (while the standalone game will launch on May 13th).

The bundle includes a black Vita 2000, a copy of Borderlands 2, and an 8Gb memory card all for $199.99.

Again, the new Vita 2000 is about 20% thinner and 15% lighter than the previous model, and also has 1Gb of built-in memory (up from nothing). It gets about an hour of extra battery life too (which it desperately needed). The only downside? It uses a standard LCD over the gorgeous OLED from the original model (which is apparently not a huge deal as those who have used both units).

Will you be picking up the new unit? Do you already have a Vita? Be sure to let us know!

It’s been rumored, officially teased and now finally unveiled at Sony’s GDC press conference, their foray into the VR Headset field with Project Morpheus. Not to be confused the NASA Project Morpheus, Sony’s Project Morpheus has it’s sights set on the home user.

Speaking of sight, Sony outlined their definitions of what makes a good VR setup. Sight being the driving factor, Project Morpheus relies HEAVILY on the power of the PS4, and promises to give the user total spacial awareness. Second is sound, and Sony has been no slouch when it comes to high quality portable sound. They are focusing a lot of energy into spacial and directional sound. Lastly they want ease of use to perform a vital role in the home VR experience. Project Morpheus mimics the Dual Shock controller and the Move in terms of communication ease.

They listed a group of partners that are already onboard with Project Morpheus, those include:

  • Havok Engine
  • Epic Games
  • Crytek
  • Bitsquad
  • CriWare
  • Autodesk
  • Silicon Studio
  • Unity Engine
  • Fmod
  • Wwise
  • DDD
  • Gigantic

The stats of the device themselves are not to shabby. They include a 1080P screen for each eye, 90 degrees field of view, both an accelerometer and gyroscope and can interface via a USB and HDMI cable.

No release date has been announced.

I personally don’t find VR to be TOO appealing, but Sony really has come out guns blazing. Coupled with the new Move controller and the very power PS4, I don’t think Project Morpheus is going to be a shabby product.

Be sure to check out more GDC coverage right HERE at Geekscape!

Briefly: Ubisoft has been all-but-silent on the Watch Dogs front since the game was delayed back in October. Today, the publisher officially announced the game’s new release date, and also released a new story trailer for the anticipated title.

The new trailer gives us a much better sense of just what’s going on in the game, which is something that wasn’t overly clear before. We also see Aiden’s motivations for his actions, and a ton of new action to boot.

You can take a look at the new story trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think. Watch Dogs will launch on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 on May 27th. The Wii U version is currently without a release date.

Looking forward to the final chapter of the Lords of Shadow series? How does a free Castlevania game sound? Konami is offering PlayStation owners in North and South America quite a deal.

By pre-ordering Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 from the PlayStation Network, customers will automatically receive Mirror of Fate HD along with an exclusive Lords of Shadow 2 Dynamic Theme for Playstation 3. Originally released last March for the Nintendo 3DS, Mirror of Fate follows the exploits of Simon Belmont and Trevor Belmont, the latter determined to end Dracula’s life once and for all. The game is set before the events of Lords of Shadow 2,  making it a perfect companion piece for those looking to get the most of out of their Castlevania experience.

Those looking to take advantage of this deal have until February 25 to do so when Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 goes on sale– available on Playstation 3, XBOX 360, and PC. Of course, those in Europe who already have Mirror of Fate for the Nintendo 3DS yet want some sweet Castlevania goods can still pre-order the Dracula’s Tomb Premium Edition (pictured below).

Briefly: It’s already out in Japan, and will be releasing soon in Europe, but Sony just made the slimmer, lighter Playstation Vita official for North America.

The Vita 2000 will launch exclusively in a Borderlands 2 bundle this Spring. The 2000 is about 20% thinner and 15% lighter than the previous model, and it also has 1Gb of built-in memory (up from 0), and about an hour of extra battery life. The only downside? It uses a standard LCD over the gorgeous OLED from the original model.

The bundle actually sounds fantastic. It (of course) includes Borderlands 2, but it’ll also come with a decently-sized 8Gb memory card. I’m running an 8Gb in my Vita right now, and it’s been enough for about 3 full Vita games, plus some download-only titles like Spelunky, OlliOlli (which I’m still obsessed with, check out my review here), and Lone Survivor.

I haven’t been a fan of the Vita for most of its life (though I did buy one on launch day), but with the myriad of indie games now available on the console, an astonishing Playstation Plus collection, and Remote Play for PS4 (and Playstation Now down the pipeline), it’s really becoming a decent system (though memory cards are still far too expensive).

Will you be picking up a Vita? Check out the announcement video below, and let us know!

Briefly: Minecraft is finally coming to PS3.

The game, which just hit an incredible 30 million copies sold, will release on December 17th (tomorrow!) in North America, and December 18th in Europe. Here’s the official announcement, straight from Mojang:

Christmas is coming early, PS3 players!

We can now confirm that Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition will be available to download this Wednesday, December 18th from the Playstation Store (if you’re based in the EU). Expect it to cost about the same as the Xbox 360 version.

I’ve received a few questions about the launch of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from you guys, so here are some of the most common queries:

Does Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition feature everything from the other versions of Minecraft?
Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition comes with everything present in other console versions. They’re pretty-much identical to play, and will be developed in tandem from now on.

Will Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition feature DLC texture packs and skins?
Downloadable skins and texture packs will be available from PlayStation Store soon after release.

Will there be Sony-specific content?
Sony-specific skins and texture packs would be cool! Fingers crossed, eh?

Will Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition feature Remote Play/compatibility with the Vita/PS4 editions?
We don’t know yet, sorry. We’ll let you know as soon as we do.

Will there be a day-one patch for Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition?
Yes! We recommend you download it!

Does Herobrine feature in Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition?
Probably not.

That’s it for now. We hope you’re just as excited about playing Minecraft on PS3 as we are. Merry Christmas/Nadolig LLawen!

I sure hope that when the Vita/PS4 editions finally hit, they’ll have cross-buy support!

Are you currently playing Minecraft? Will you be picking up the PS3 edition? Sound out below!

Briefly: Sony sold over 1 million PS4 consoles in the unit’s first 24 hours of availability, and tonight, the company revealed another milestone.

Since it’s debut in North America on November 15th, the Playstation 4 has sold over 2.1 million units. Here’s the official word, straight from SCE President Andrew House:

In what is shaping up to be a historic year for gamers, I’m delighted to share an important new milestone with you. PS4’s North American debut on November 15th was PlayStation’s largest ever, with more than one million gamers picking up a PS4 in just 24 hours. Now, with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold.

It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.

While PS4’s capabilities will continue to evolve, our commitment to gamers and breakthrough entertainment remains steadfast. We believe that videogames represent the pinnacle of artistry and entertainment, and we will work tirelessly to make sure that PlayStation remains the best place to play.

Thank you for your passion and your support — we couldn’t have done this without you.

Not all good things can last and while the live shows at Toadhop have been a blast, the studio is closing up and it’s time to go another way. Geekscape will always keep trucking, as you know, but this is the last Toadhop episode for the time being. Matt Raub and Ben Dunn join Kenny and I on a classic Geekscape episode in which we review ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ and ‘The Dallas Buyers Club’, talk about how you shouldn’t be missing ‘Arrow’ and that The Governor has completely reinvigorated ‘The Walking Dead’! Also, Ben talks about his love for ‘Zelda: A Link Between Worlds’, I enthusiastically support ‘Super Mario 3D World’ and Matt chooses the XBox One over the PS4… and tells us why!

And listen to the full conversation here:

Briefly: Well, the PS4 is a hit.

Sony revealed earlier today that in the first 24 hours of availability, the company’s newest console sold over 1 million units.

“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. “Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

In comparison, Nintendo’s latest home console, the Wii U, sold just 400,000 units in its first weekthe PS3 sold 197,000 in its first two weeks, and the Xbox 360 sold through 326,000 in its first two weeks.

Those are some pretty fantastic numbers! I waited outside my local Wal-Mart to get my hands on one (check out my unboxing here), and am loving it so far!

Did you pick up a console? How are you feeling about it so far? Feel free to add me on PSN at (CaptainK17)!

Briefly: Following the impressive “Perfect Day” commercial that Sony released last week, the company has debuted another ad, this time promoting the legendary Playstation brand as “for the players since 1995”.

The video takes us through the history of Playstation and the ever-changing world around it. It certainly makes you feel nostalgic for the good ol’ days of split screen gaming, but also makes me really, really long for the release of the PS4 (whether or not I’ll be getting one on launch day is still up in the air).

The ad has been produced with fantastic attention to detail – note that the aspect ratios and quality of video changes as time progresses, among other things. Take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’ll be picking up Sony’s new console!

Briefly: Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Watch Dogs has been delayed to 2014.

The game, which was set to release on November 19th (and was one of my most-wanted titles of the year) has been pushed to next Spring. Ubisoft explained the delay in a statement on their official website this morning:

Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014 (Fall 2014 for Australia & New Zealand).

We know a lot of you are probably wondering ‘why now?’ We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.

So that’s that. One less game to buy at the PS4 launch, I suppose? I’m still beyond excited for title, and if the delay results in the release of a better game, I’m all for it. As the great Shigeru Miyamoto once said, “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Ubisoft’s The Crew, which was slated for a Q1 2014 release, has been pushed to Q2.

Tuesday is upon us, and so are the newest PSN releases! Take a look below at everything hitting PSN today, and be sure to let us know what you’re planning to pick up! Sure, we already know it’s Grand Theft Auto V, but Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver is looking pretty sweet too!

PAX Prime is over and it’s time to sift through the ashes! The brain trust of Noah Roman, Garrett Medina and Ash Paulsen join me this week to discuss everything that they witnessed in Seattle! What were the highlights from the weekend? How is PAX different than E3? Is the 2DS still a joke? What games are we looking forward to the most? Were there any indies that jumped out? Does Garrett play too much Pokémon? And Ash and Garrett talk about meeting Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune! It’s a packed episode of video game talk so you’re not going to want to miss it!

Briefly: Ubisoft has just released a cool 14-minute gameplay video for what may just be my most anticipated game of the year, Watch Dogs.

The video gives us a neat sneak peek into some of the awesome multiplayer action that Watch Dogs has in store for us. I was mainly looking forward to the game’s single-player campaign, but the multiplayer here looks seriously awesome.

Take a look at the new video below, and let us know if you’ll be picking up the game! You’ll get your chance to take over Chicago on November 19th. Watch Dogs is set for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.

In Watch_Dogs, players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago’s central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. Aiden will be able to tap into the city’s omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control systems such as traffic lights or public transportation to stop a chase, and more. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.

Jacob Lopez is Geekscape’s longest running videogame writer! Six years ago, Jacob (known as Jake108 around these parts) asked to do a preview of Halo 3 for the site and the rest is history. Now on the verge of GTA 5, Batman Arkham Origins and the rest of the Fall releases, Jake and I sit down to talk about what’s exciting and not so exciting. We also provide an update on the PS4 vs XBox One debate and discuss the drawbacks of buying on Day 1 Also, Josh Jackson calls in to offer his 2 cents on the debate and talk about why he’s not going to replay Wind Waker and a familiar Geekscapist calls in to talk about removing my skin! Yippee!

Briefly: It’s not the big news that Sony announced at today’s Gamescom conference, but it’s definitely still worth noting.

Sony has officially dropped the price of its struggling flagship handheld, the Playstation Vita. Effective immediately, the console’s new price will be a cool $200 / €200.

Sony also revealed that a price drop on Vita memory cards is forthcoming.

Is the drop enough to make you consider the console? What do you think is in store for its future? I still believe that the system lacks a ‘must have’ title, and am afraid of what may happen once the PS4 launches. Will the Vita simply become a PS4 streaming device?

Vita owner? When’s the last time that you picked your console up? Can you recommend me some games?

Gonna be in San Diego this weekend? Yes, the behemoth that is Comic-Con will be going on (and on and on), but there is another con that you may not have heard about, Gam3r Con (Wednesday-Sunday) will be running at the same time; Gam3r Con is located at the 10th Ave Theater and is a multi-story playhouse dedicated to games, theatre, and more!

There are different rooms designated for different types of gaming: tabletop, old school (Retrocade), and console. It feels like you went over to your friend’s house and all of your buddies are there. There is a little something for everyone. They also have game inspired art throughout the building and even hosted a painting party Wednesday evening.

Be sure to check out the live entertainment: Gam3rs: The Play, I Wish My Life Was an RPG, and War Games. There will also be some films and stand up comedy!

Gam3rs: The Play recently had a one night engagement in a sold out theater in North Hollywood. They even had to add extra chairs! The audience loved the performance by Brian Bielawski and really connected to the material. One fun moment I remember during the show was when Geekscape’s own Jonathan London approvingly nodded along to a specific Farscape reference. However, one can still enjoy the show without knowing what it is like to play a MMORPG (massive multi-player online role playing game), or not following every nerd shout out. The main character, Steve, is just your average guy trying to survive a soul crushingly boring job, deal with an over bearing boss/bothersome coworker and remember his girlfriend’s birthday. You can still catch this hilarious one man show Saturday at 10pm and Sunday at 2:30pm.

These are just some of the many awesome things you will discover at Gam3r Con. So be sure to check it out!

It’s been a long day, with E3 conferences from Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft concluding throughout the afternoon, and Apple’s own WWDC beginning this morning. The moment most gamers seem to be waiting for is here: Sony is finally about to unveil the physical PS4.

What else does the gaming giant have in store for us? What’s up with the Vita (sigh)? Will the PS3 drop in price? When will the PS4 launch? Stay tuned for our live updates throughout the event, and watch our embed below!

The Yakuza series, known for its always violent, sometimes campy depiction of the Japanese crime world, will be making its first appearance on a non Sony console when Yakuza 1 and 2 HD hits the Wii U. The catch? It’s only in Japan.

Continuing what seems to be a strong partnership between former rivals and kings of our childhood, Nintendo and Sega had quite a few bombshells during the Nintendo Direct presentation last week. Yakuza 1 and 2 will go a long way to help dispel the stigma surrounding Nintendo as a “kids console.” The only problem is that Yakuza has never been more than a cult classic amongst gamers outside of Japan, so getting the game here is a long shot. All we can do is show our support and hope for the best, since you know… online petitions don’t work.

Featuring an HD upgrade and off TV play, Yakuza 1 & 2 HD hits Japanese shelves in August.

Ubisoft’s next slam dunk title, Watch Dogs, is looking better and better every day. Set in the near future, players take the role of  Aiden Pearce, a man who was done dirty and is getting revenge on the people that did it. The major gameplay mechanic in Watch Dogs is being able to hack into the city’s electronic surveillance systems and utilities.

So, if you weren’t sold already, here are six minutes of gameplay footy to help you decide whether or not to pick Watch Dogs up!

Brandon Easton is a comic book and TV writer who has been a friend of Geekscape for a while now! In TV, Brandon wrote on the most recent Thundercats series and in comics, Brandon started out by writing his original graphic novel ‘Shadowlaw’. Now, Brandon arrives to talk about ‘Joshua Run’, a brand new digital comic he has coming out soon from Lion Forge Comics. We take this opportunity to talk about the future of comics and digital comics and what Brandon is reading right now. Is Transformers one of the best Sci-Fi books on the shelves right now? Yes, it is. Also, how has Brandon dealt with the issues of prejudice in the comic book industry? Plus! We say goodbye to the legendary Ray Harryhausen and give our thoughts on ‘Iron Man 3’!

This one is fired off like a rocket! ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ takes me hostage and beats me up! Orson Scott Card is a massive dickhead! ‘Miss December’ director Derek Lindeman calls in! Saint Mort drops the bomb that his mom signed him up for a dating service for Valentine’s Day and Shane O’Hare calls up to discuss the PS4 announcements! Plus! Some comic book talk!

After a mysterious announcement a few weeks ago, followed by some intriguing videos afterwards (here, here, here, and here), Sony is finally ready to show us the future of Playstation.

Nothing is guaranteed of course, but the world is widely expecting the company to announce and unveil the Playstation 4. Sony has been kind enough to provide a live stream of the event, which is embedded below!

The keynote is set to begin a 6PM Eastern! Enjoy, and let us know your thoughts below!

Stream videos at Ustream

You know the drill by now. Following Sony’s PS1 and PS2 videos from earlier in the week, a Playstation 3 follow-up was released late last night. As expected, the video takes us from the PS3’s announcement at E3 2005, right to today, in which you’re hopefully playing Ni No Kuni.

Take a trip down memory lane with the video below, and let us know what you think!

All of these videos are ramping up to the ‘Future of Playstation’ presentation on Wednesday night. Sony is widely expected to unveil a PS3 successor during the keynote. Everyone’s expecting it, but only time will tell! What do you think will be announced?

So… Planning on picking up a PS4?

On Friday, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed a neat teaser for their upcoming keynote presentation (this Wednesday at 6PM ET). The video was a How It’s Made style look at the beginning of the Playstation brand, through to the end of the first Playstation’s lifecycle. The teaser sealed the deal for me, and I now firmly believe that Wednesday’s announcement will include new Playstation hardware. I also guessed that we’d be seeing Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 videos before Wednesday arrived.

The PS2 video has been released; titled Evolution of Playstation: Playstation 2. The content is very similar to that of the first video, but of course chronicling the life of the second generation console. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Are you looking forward to Wednesday’s announcement? When do you think the PS3 video will drop? Is that leaked controller the real thing?

In early February, Sony invited all of us to a special presentation about the future of Playstation. The internet immediately went wild with speculation that the announcement of a fourth Playstation console was imminent; the Wall Street Journal also confirmed the speculation with a reliable source.

I didn’t believe it at first, but after seeing today’s follow-up teaser, I’m not sure what else it could be; watch the video below and you’ll see what I mean!

Images of an apparently legitimate prototype controller have also made their way online. It looks similar to the DualShock we know and love, but with an intriguing touch panel in the centre. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not you believe this one, but multiple sources have confirmed that it’s a real (though early) prototype.

Sony’s presentation will stream live this Wednesday, February 20th at 6PM Eastern. Will you be watching? Will you be disappointed if we don’t see a new console? Sound out below!
