This October the creative team of Fred Van Lente and artist Alessandro Vitti will be bringing you a special holiday themed one-shot. ‘Marvel Zombies: Halloween’ returns us to a world filled with zombies where one kid just wants to go trick or treating.

Talkng about what we will see Van Lente says “The franchise is known for being really over the top and focusing on the insane idea of zombie-infected super heroes. And in the past, we’ve done stories with martians, robots, knights and many of Marvel’s monster characters. So for our Halloween one-shot, we’re doing more of a “classic” zombie apocalypse story about a woman and her son. The kid has grown up in a zombie apocalypse universe and when Halloween rolls around, he wants to go trick or treating. He’s heard about it and read about it, but his mom doesn’t think it’s a very good idea because they’re surrounded by zombies.”

So he asks her, “What’s the purpose of us staying alive during the zombie apocalypse if we never get to have any fun? What’s the point of just surviving?” He then sneaks out on Halloween night and goes Trick or Treating in a Spider-Man costume and events spiral from there. It’s a horrific but sweet little tale.”

On whether we will know the characters or it will remain a mystery.

“Exactly. If I revealed those things, I would give away the game, but I can reveal that this is going to really focus on Marvel’s kid and teen heroes; Avengers Academy, Runaways and even Power Pack. You’ll see more gruesome versions of these teams than we’re used to seeing. It’s sort of what “Lost Boys” did for vampires.

Plus, there’s even a surprise appearance at the end of the story by a Marvel character I’ve always loved, but for various reasons have never been able to include in a story. Their appearance in this is particularly apropos. It’s another horror-themed Marvel character that I’ve never been able to write.”

In October we will return to a world ravaged by a plague that had turned most of Earth’s heroes into raving cannibalistic monsters. Jonathan Maberry is back to continue on from events that unfolded in ‘Marvel Universe vs Punisher’ and ‘Marvel Universe vs Wolverine’ in a four issue mini-series ‘Marvel Universe vs The Avengers

“The story is intensely personal, as all stories of great cultural trauma,” Maberry says. “These are horror stories, and ‘Marvel Universe vs The Avengers’ takes the horror down to a very personal level. We are no longer witnessing the world’s hurt or the cultural hurt, we’re inside the head – and heart — of a man who is experiencing the most personal kind of hurt.” The man he is referring to here is Clint Barton aka Hawkeye.

“The story is told from Hawkeye’s perspective, but most of the big guns are there: Thor, Hulk — red and green versions — Iron Man, Giant Man, Luke Cage, Black Widow, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, and others,” reveals the writer. “We also check in on the kids at Avengers Academy. The events in these four issues cut a bloody swath across the entire Avengers landscape.”

“The world is becoming a horror show and no one has the power to stop it,” Maberry explains. “Then we look down at the street-level, at a man like Hawkeye who has no super powers and who isn’t really the go-to guy for a world-threatening crisis and for reasons we’ll explore in the story, he doesn’t succumb to the plague as quickly. More and more of the responsibility for this fight falls to him, and he’s extremely mortal.”

“View that same thing from another perspective and you see someone who has never been as powerful as his teammates, and yet he’s always held the line, always done his part. So, maybe he’s the kind of hero we need in a world where super powers are no longer the answer.”

“The world itself is broken, and the storytelling reflects that,” Maberry offers. “There is no longer an orderly pace to history, and if humanity survives, the history that’s taught will come from fragments of memory and experiences.

“I wanted to get inside the phenomenon of becoming ‘powerless.’ Many of the heroes lose their heroic status by becoming monsters; we have characters struggling to continue to be heroes while knowing that they are transforming into the enemy. The government and even groups like S.H.I.E.L.D. can’t stop this. The greatest brains on the planet—Reed Richards, Hank Pym, T’Challa—can’t solve this problem. We see how different characters cope with their friends/team-mates and loved ones becoming monsters.”

But in the end it’s all coming down to one man. The man with the arrows.

“That is a special kind of horror, and it’s a special kind of heroic tale,” Maberry promises. “I think people are going to bond pretty heavily with Hawkeye in this tale.”

So, let me start off by saying I was in a packed theater with no more than ten females present. I guess they were all off seeing Channing Tatum’s bare ass while I was seeing Mark Wahlberg’s bare ass. There was the one spoiler I am giving you. I know ladies…you are now trading in your tickets for tonight to see ‘Ted’ instead.

Earlier this year I made the statement that ’21 Jump Street’ would be the funniest movie to come out this year. I now retract said statement. ‘Ted’ brought me to tears due to laughter more times than I could count. If you had any fears that Seth MacFarlane’s humor wouldn’t translate to the big screen…have them no more. It translates and it translates oh so well.

‘Ted’ tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since. John’s girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) wants to move on with their lives together and feels Ted (Seth MacFarlane) is in the way of that happening.

If you’re looking for “smart funny” go somewhere else. Why the fuck would you be expecting that? This movie is exactly what you think it’s going to be and that’s a great thing. While this movie can appeal to everyone it’s definitely aimed at the products of the 80’s and 90’s. There are some jokes that may be lost on the younger crowd. But even if you you’ve never seen them you will probably still laugh and sort of get the numerous ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Flash Gordon’ references. And how would it be a Seth MacFarlane movie without the cameos? As stated I am keeping this review 99% spoiler free but there are moments you are not going to expect in this movie and they are great.

One worry I had about this movie was how believable was it going to be seeing Ted throughout the movie. The CG is great and there are times when I honestly forgot that it was CG. There’s a scene in the opening when Ted meets a certain late night talk show host that left me wondering “How did they pull that off?”

Overall ‘Ted’ is a hilarious and fun movie. If you don’t laugh at all within the first five minutes of the film…go get your money back and go see something else. But then again if you’re on this site I honestly expect you to laugh multiple times within the first five minutes and the entire duration of the movie. ‘Ted’ is one of those comedies that you will be able to watch over and over again and still laugh at the jokes.

Score: 4/5

‘Goon’ is a new addition to Netflix that was recently in theaters. The only problem was that it had a pretty limited theatrical run. Still, we tried telling you to see it on On Demand and in theaters way back in our original review months ago! If you missed it, you only had yourselves to blame! But now you get a chance to redeem yourself, because ‘Goon’ has just been added to Netflix Instant and you can toss this one in your instant queue.

This movie is actually an apaptation of ‘Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey’ by Adam Frattasio and Doug Smith. The main plot depicts an exceedingly nice but somewhat dimwitted man who becomes the enforcer for a minor league ice hockey team. It was written by Jay Baruchel (‘Knocked Up’) and Evan Goldberg (‘Superbad’) and starring Sean William Scott (come on…it’s Stiffler), Allison Pine (‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World’) and Liev Schreiber (‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’). This movie is honestly hilarious and you won’t be mad at yourself for watching it.

Looks like everyone was wrong about what “This Is War” was going to be all about. Oh wait…not me. Because I totally called it being ‘The Punisher’. Marvel has revealed that they would be relaunching ‘Punisher: War Zone’ with an event titled ‘Lock And Load’. Is The Punisher about to take on the Marvel universe? You’ll have to wait until the panel at Comic-Con in two weeks like the rest of us for all the details.

When I heard that we wouldn’t see much blood in this movie (thanks Chuck!) I became worried. But this clip right here has calmed my doubts because there definitely is some blood getting splattered.

“The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross, Lee Christmas, Yin Yang, Gunnar Jensen, Toll Road and Hale Caesar — with newest members Billy the Kid and Maggie aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….”

‘The Expendables 2’ hits theaters August 17th.

Due to his appearances in both ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ people have been speculating and wondering if we would once again see Cillian Murphy return in the final chapter ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. The actor that played Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow has kind of dodged the question and never really given a straight forward answer when asked recently. Now a new press-release for the ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ European Premiere has made its way online and seems to point to the fact that he does appear in it.

According to the release, the cast attending the premiere include:

Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine.

Now it’s time to lose your mind to figure out how he’s going to fit in. Could it be a cameo? A flashback? Is he involved with Bane? Is there a post credits scene of him, Batman and Bane eating some form of Mediterranean food? Guess you’ll just have to wait until July 20th.

Earlier this month it was rumored we would be getting another Avengers title after AvX and the rumor was that it would be called ‘Astonishing Avengers’ and would be replacing ‘Secret Avengers’. Now it’s appearing that the name has been changed to ‘Uncanny Avengers’. The new title by Rick Remender and Jerome Opena will seem to throw a little more mutant on the team.

“Starring Wolverine and Captain America, running an Avengers team together, with Cap in a more movie-friendly costume. And something that is very much a post Avengers Vs X-Men comic…”

I’m guessing this means that the sides are going to getting split even more than they were after Schism. Most likely more mutants returning to Utopia. But who knows what Marvel has up their sleeve? Guess we will find out soon enough.

So, if you’re a fan of either ‘Pitch Black’ or ‘Chronicles Of Riddick’…you’re most likely excited for ‘Riddick’. The upcoming R-rated flick once again teams up Vin Diesel with director David Towhy. Earlier today Vin Diesel posted a new image of him holding some kind of alien skull to his Facebook page.

“Last night I was invited, by the director, to the editing room… to see an early first cut of the new Riddick…

WOW!!!

P.s. I was so affected/excited… I couldn’t sleep.

GRRRR!!!”

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

No release date has been set yet but the film is targeted for a 2013 release.

It seems Latino Review is on a roll. They’re reporting that Legendary will be not only bringing ‘Pacific Rim’ to Comic-Con but also none other than the Tokyo crusher himself…Godzilla!

“Not only is Legendary bringing the Lizard to comic con but get this, I hear the presentation is SICK! I’m not going to get into specific spoiler territory because then what’s the point of attending the panel, but take this one to the bank.

Godzilla will stomp both the audio and video systems within Hall H two weeks from this Saturday! I’ll be there to witness it myself. I can already envision them shutting down the lights, hearing Godzilla’s roar, and the crowd going wild”

Thanks to IGN we have the bed band trailer for ‘The Man With The Iron Fists’ an upcoming action martial arts film directed by RZA and written by RZA and Eli Roth. The film stars Russell Crowe, RZA, Dave Batista, Byron Mann, Rick Yune, Pam Grier and Lucy Liu.

Edgar Wright’s next project will definitely be ‘At Worlds End’ but that doesn’t mean he isn’t also working on ‘Ant-Man’. Over the past few days I have had a few bits of ‘Ant-Man’ news that even included a rumor that Edgar Wright will be shooting the post-credits scene for ‘Iron Man 3’. It appears this project may be closer to reality than ever before.

Wright has been hard at work perfecting the script with Joe Cornish. But that isn’t all he has been up to. It’s been revealed that Edgar Wright has spent a week shooting a reel of footage which will be used to test out the look of the film and how the character’s powers will be portrayed on the big screen. With the rumor that we may be getting up to three non-sequel announcements during the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con could it possibly mean we may be getting to see this test reel? Fingers crossed.

Earlier today the internet exploded with excitement (trust me…check Twitter) when it hit that Marvel Studios would be announcing ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ at their San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Well now it seems that Variety has confirmed this report and even announced that the release date would be set at May 16, 2014. It’s also being reported that Nicole Perlman (who previously worked on ‘Thor’) has already written two drafts for the film and Marvel is very happy with her work. Marvel has not officially commented yet.

With a new ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ series as well as a new ‘Nova’ series on the way as well as Guardians appearing in a recent episode of ‘Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes’ and Nova having a recurring role in ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’…this announcement comes at no shock to me. But definitely has me excited more than some of the previously rumored movies that we would be seeing next. We better see some Star-Lord though or I fear Scott Alminiana may stab someone.

And it’s not what you expect it to be.

Ok, many of you wanted to know this and now you shall…

I promised my Bothans that I wouldn’t reveal much about the Marvel project that Walt Disney Animation Studios was working on, that I would only allude to it until something else broke about it. Well, now a website has let the cat out of the bag. Remember that I mentioned that the property would be unlike anything the Mouse had done before? I also mentioned to some that inquired about it, that Marvel owns 4000+ characters and everyone was thinking it was an animated “Iron Man” or “X-Men” or even “Power Pack.” Well, it’s not. It’s not one of the top 100 or 200 characters even. The actual title is much more obscure than most people know. In fact, most comic book fans will not even know the title, or most of the characters. So, what is the title/characters that Disney is adapting into an animated film?

Big Hero 6.

Some of you may be asking who that is.

Big Hero 6 is a superteam in the Marvel Comics universe. They technically first appeared in Sunfire and Big Hero 6 #1 (September, 1998), though they were created by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau in the pages of Alpha Flight, volume 2. When the Japanese government wanted a team of state-sanctioned super-heroes at their disposal, a top-secret consortium of politicians and business entities known as the Giri was formed to recruit and train potential superhuman operatives for “Big Hero 6.

‘Big Hero 6’ most recently appeared in the ‘End Of The Earth’ storyline in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’. With members such as Sunfire and Silver Samurai on the team…this could be interesting. While the project has not been officially green-lit, the story is boarded and has been deemed strong enough to go into production. As usual…sound off in the box below.

It’s not a suprise. After the news of Marvel filling trademarks for ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ it was obvious it was coming. But according to Latino Review (who has been pretty reliable about Marvel Studios news)…it’s coming a lot sooner than we thought. Kevin Fiege has been talking some time now about doing a space epic and now it’s coming.

For those unfamiliar with ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, the comic first appeared in 1969 and was resurrected in 2008. The story centers on a group of alien beings in the 31st century who are each the last of their kind. They eventually travel back in time and interact with 20th century Marvel characters which would most likely be how the movie would end and tie into ‘The Avengers 2’.

It’s reported that we will get an official announcement at the Marvel Studios panel during San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks. We are also told to expect Nova and that the script is “incredible” and will lead up to ‘The Avengers 2’ in 2015. Oh and is Thanos in it? Yes. Yes he is.

On Saturday, July 7, at 10:00 a.m. Christopher Nolan will receive a rare industry honor and be cemented into The Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, stated, “Everyone at Warner Bros. joins me in congratulating Christopher Nolan, who has been such an integral part of our family for the past 12 years. We are extremely proud of the cinematic legacy he has given us through his films. At only 41, Christopher takes his place alongside other industry giants featured at Grauman’s, and generations of fans will remember the extraordinary impression he left on their imaginations.”

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ hits theaters on July 20th.

‘The Avengers’ is set to hit shelves on September 25th. We have a trailer for you to get you excited the Blu-ray release that even seems to sneak in some of the new footage that will be seen on it. I won’t lie…kind of made me want to go see it again. Are you ready to assemble again?

Marvel continues teasing their next big event “This Is War”. While many fans speculated this could be the Ultron War it continues to look less and less like it. Could they be going against the government? The Punisher?! I’m calling it as The Punisher based on these teasers. Guess we will have to wait and find out at Comic-Con.

So far the ‘Before Watchmen’ books have been nothing exciting to me. And ‘Nite Owl’ was supposed to be the one that changed that…but sadly didn’t.

The book focuses on Daniel Dreiberg and how he became the second Nite Owl. And that’s where the problems begin. We don’t learn much about his past and while Straczynski does touch on his abusive father it feels rushed. Actually as a whole the book feels rushed in order to cram too much in. Being that this was an origin story you wouldn’t expect him to be suited up until MAYBE at the end but two thirds into the book he has already become the second Nite Owl and is teamed up with Rorschach. And there starts issue number two with me. Their relationship just seemed like a joke and there for laughs. Every situation in the story seems to span one or maybe two pages rather than actually fleshing anything out.

I really did enjoy Andy Kubert’s art even though he seemed to just recycle some scenes from the original Watchmen series without adding much to them. But the overall art is great and Joe Kubert’s inking really gives the book a classic feel that works well due to the 1960’s setting.

Overall while the art in the book is good…the story lacks. I wanted to like this book. I really did. It just feels like a rushed book and I can’t see why. It’s a four issue series and we are done with origin story two thirds into the first issue. Did I like it better than the other books? Sure. Is that saying much? No.

I’ll say pick up the issue if you’re on the fence about it and make your own opinion but if you have zero interest at all? Leave this one on the shelves. I’m really hoping Ozymandias and Rorschach aren’t going to leave me with this same unsatisfied feeling I have had so far with the rest of the titles.

‘The Man With The Iron Fists’ is an upcoming action martial arts film directed by RZA and starring Russell Crowe, RZA, Dave Batista, Byron Mann, Rick Yune, Pam Grier and Lucy Liu. The movie was written by RZA and Eli Roth and presented by Quentin Tarantino.

Not that we didn’t know it was coming already but now we have times for the Marvel Studios and Walk Disney Studios panels at SDCC 2012. Marvel will most likely be presenting footage from ‘Iron Man 3’ as well as giving updates such as casting on ‘Thor 2’, ‘Captain America 2’ and a sequel to ‘The Avengers’. We should also expect information about their other projects which are currently rumored to be ‘Ant-Man‘, ‘The Black Panther’ and ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy‘.

So, I am actually not a fan of the original ‘Total Recall’ due to how far it drifted from the Phillip K. Dick story that it originated from. I know…blasphemy right? But half the people I’ve told about this didn’t even realize that ‘Total Recall’ is based off of ‘We Can Remember It For You Wholesale’. When when they announced that they were doing a movie that actually kept to the source material I was excited. With an awesome cast including some gorgeous women and some great looking effects…how could I not be excited for this?

Find out what is real and what is recall on August 3rd.

Post-AvX we know Marvel will be returning to their cosmic titles and it seems we may be getting more than just one. It’s already been all but officially announced that Bendis will be launching a new ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ title. And according to our friends at Bleeding Cool we will also be getting a new ‘Nova’ series to join that.

The book will most likely focus on the new Nova…Sam Alexander (Sorry Richard Rider fans). The series is said to have Ed McGuiness drawing. And while we could see writing there is also possibility that it could be Jeph Loeb.  But neither writers have been actually attached and this is just speculation and we could get an entirely different writer.

The movie may have been out for awhile now but the viral campaign for ‘Prometheus’ seems nowhere close to being done. First we had the post credit flash leading to people wondering “What is 10.11.12?” And now it seems Weyland Industries will have a presence at San Diego Comic Con.

Project Prometheus

Could this be similar to what Marvel did last year with recruiting S.H.I.E.L.D. agents? Does this tie-in with 10.11.12 in some way? Why is there even more questions even after the movie?! Damn you Ridley Scott. Color me intrigued.

Awhile back it was announced that ‘Starship Troopers’ would be joining many films and getting the reboot treatment. The 1997 Paul Verhoeven film starring Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards and Neil Patrick Harris is a fan favorite and spawned three sequels. Three god awful sequels that really didn’t hold up to the original. Toby Jaffe (who also produced the ‘Total Recall’ reboot) will handle the movie and has stated that it is too hard to produce a movie that is “too violent” when it is too expensive to produce.

“The more expensive a film is, the harder it is now to make it that violent,” explains Jaffe, also one of the team behind the Colin Farrell’s Total Recall. “With Recall in particular, we made a conscious choice to keep it tonally closer to something like Minority Report. It gives the studio, and us as producers, the opportunity to reintroduce it in a new way.

“Verhoeven made his movie a critique of fascism,” says Jaffe, “whereas Heinlein was writing from the perspective of someone who had served in World War II. Y’know, one man’s fascism is another man’s patriotism…”

“Working in a visual-efects renaissance as we are, we have the ability to do so much more now. We can do the Jump Suits [armoured exoskeletons from Heinlein’s novel], for example, which I don’t think they could have done before.”

When I first saw the trailer for ‘Looper’ at WonderCon I was blown away. With an impressive cast and a great concept this is one of the movies I have been looking forward to most this year. We now have a second trailer that sheds a bit more light on the plot of the movie.

Face your past and fight your future on September 28th.

A few days ago I reported that Marvel may be finally moving forward with the ‘Ant-Man’ movie. Now an interesting bit of information which could entirely be a rumor has hit the internet. During The Playlist’s recent podcast they dropped the following information.

“Chinese actor Andy Lau’s (who recently dropped out) role is apparently a “very different version of Radioactive Man in the comics.” And while he’s expected to pop up in future MCU films, he may appear in the post-credits scene. And that will involve him coming face-to-face with a version of Ant-Man.

Edgar Wright will possibly be shooting Iron Man 3’s post-credits scene essentially introducing Ant-Man. This may back of Wright stating he was hoping to shoot some of the movie this year.”

While it is the internet and of course any rumor could be just made upp…The Playlist is a fairly reliable source. Could this confirm rumors that we may get ‘Ant-Man’ in 2014 or 2015?
